Final thoughts on San Jose:
It was a seeking putas and eating good food trip. I was told several parts of San Jose were unsafe. The area around Pension Portugesa was quite shady, but not dangerous, IMHO. Other than that area, I thought the city was quite safe and I never felt threaten in any manner. But then again, I took a lot of Ubers throughout the city at night.
Would I ever return to San Jose? YES, I felt I barely scratched the surface of the city; especially the pensions and other places to eat. Overall, I had a great time! Would I recommend it to other mongers? Absolutely!

When I arrived in San Jose- Taxis quotes $40 to the Taormina. Uber app was $27. I chose to rent a car at Budget ($169 for 4 days)($1000 deposit that I got back within 24 hours.

I checked into the Taormina around 11 am, and there were about 5 girls there Between 4's-7's.

All rooms have wooden floors now, they took all of the carpet out of the rooms and replaced with wood. They charge you $15 per girl you take to your room, $30 if she stays the night. I pay in Colones which is 7211 in colones, they usually just accept the 7,000 colones. The free breakfast is now a buffet. And it's a cook there to make you an omelet of your choice. Very good breakfast. If you have a car, you park underneath the hotel on level SL the 24 hour security guard lets you in and out. The elevator goes directly to your hotel floor. The later it gets the more packed it be. Midnight they had maybe 60 girls in there. One night I woke up and went down stairs at 3 am and it was packed with girls. Taormina is a whole nother vibe! And every girl said yes to $80 or 4,000 colones.

My price is always $80 or 4,000 colones And I let then choose which one. Sometimes they will hesitate or say why not 100, and I politely smile and say that's my price, and I have not had one girl in the taormina say no. I like to take pictures and videos and many of them will not allow that. Once they agree on my price and are in my room, I offer $100 if they let me take pics or videos. They always allow but some with some restrictions and others with none, some will say just don't get my face, some will say no videos but you can pics, some you can do whatever. It all depends on the girl but most importantly, the cash. The range of girls I seen was 5's-10's. Everything and anything you want was in there and this was during the slow weekdays. Just my opinion- You can usually tell by a girls vibe with you and their personality if you are going to have a good time or not. She might not be the best at what she does but she will give you HER BEST! That's all I expect, is the girl to give her best effort. If you want GFE, then Always talk to the girl before you discuss pricing, by her a drink, If you make it transactional, then she will also and will be watching the clock.

I always go the mall to get Colones as there is a bank (Banco Popular) and atms in there with better rates than at the airport. And Girls, girls, girls. And they are nonpro girls. I arrived at the San Pedro mall a little after 11 am, the mall had just opened. It has 3 levels. And a lot young chicas working at the stores and food court. Because they had just opened, it was not crowded, and you could have good conversations with the girls without being interrupted. Their food court has burger king, taco bell, subway, pizza hut etc.(I ate lunch at the mall every day).
I met 4 chics and exchanged whatsapp #. One was a student that was there searching for a job. The other 2 worked in the food court and the 4th worked at lingerie store. They were all 7's-8's.
Then I stopped in the screen repair shop named Genius Phone Store to get my screen replaced. The girl there was BAD!! Easy 10. But I had a huge problem. I told her that I wanted Authentic Costa rican food, she replied that's mainly beans and rice and stuff, I said ok lets do that. She said to meet her at Nuestra Tierra. I ubered her there, and she was an easy 9, with no makeup and tall.
My First L- I couldn't read the menu so I told her to pick my meal and drink.
She had seafood pasta, I had Salmon with Cream sauce, we both had some type of margarita I believe and a spicy shrimp appetizer. The food was good, and the drinks were good and it was very crowded. They also had live music two guys singing and playing a psalmodikon and a guitar.
The bill came and it was $194 (97,166) Our actually food / beverage was.
Subtotal 66,150. 00. I. V. A- 9,200.50. Servivio- 7,815.50. Efectivo Contado- 14,000 for a grand total of 97,166. 00, I asked the girl what are these charges and she looked very stunned and said that she always wanted to go there but never have and she stated that she didn't know it was that expensive. I was shocked as this place was packed but it didn't seem to be that pricey. She could tell I was a little upset, so she said lets go to your hotel. As I pull up to the taormina, she says No, no,no, no. I do not go in there, I am not a working girl in there. So I put in hotel and the Delta Marriott was right there on the corner and I am an Awards member so went there and booked the room and wow this hotel was not what I expected in that location. Nice hotel, Bar on second floor, indoor pool on the 2nd floor and very nice restaurant. We had drinks watched Netflix talked and sexed 3 times and she was an animal and did everything I wanted- full GFE experience, I was worn out. I ordered her an uber around 10:30 pm, she didn't ask for any mone only an uber ride back home but I gave her $100 for an outfit for our next date, and she gave me the biggest hug and wet ass tongue kissand I went to sleep didn't even make it back to the taormina. So first day I was out 194-lunch, 100-her, 121- marriott hotel extra room. BUT, she made it well worth it.
Monday checked out of Marriott, and headed over to Taormina around 11 am, it was about 7 girls. One had a huge BBL, which I don't like but she was very pretty, so I said what the hell. I told her my price she said ok and off we went. I was surprised because most BBL girls that in have encounterd are terrible at sex, but was great. Sent her off, cleaned up and then I wanted to go explore.
I came out of the taormina and made right then made quick left, and right there on the corner was Little Havana Pension, Its open from 10 am-2 am. I went to the bar to have a drink, and there was about 4 girls there, late 20's, early 30's around 6's /7's. But the bartender was very nice 9. 5 only because no chest. I ordered some fries and wings which was also very good and cheap. Two girls approached me and both offered service for $100 without condom which I declined. They have several rooms in the bar that looks ok and clean. The bartender also said they get packed on Friday and Saturday nights as they have karaoke. Also next door is a pizza place called Gilberts Pizza- very good!
I went back to the hotel and got the rental and went to Monicas- it was about 10 girls in there from 6's-8's, and I would smash all of them, I choose the blonde hair slim chic, you pay the receptionist – I meant to write it down but I believe it was $45 for the hour. Considering cost aside, I was wondering if there is any truth to it?

Thanks in advance.I stayed 6 nights at the Taormina a month ago. On my last trip I was in Jaco at the cocal. So the Taromina chicas were much less churn and burn than the Cocal in Jaco. The service level was much better In San Jose than Jaco. I was quoted $300 by a very attractive chica which came down to $150 without asking I was paying $100 (I am not a good negociater) a chica Next trip I may spend final 3 nights at the Barcelo after I get my contacts at Taormina. Just be prepared to recieve RFM's from every chica you exchange info with. I just tell them I am saving my money for the next trip down.

Wow this wasa great read and review. I was looking to see if I should return to Colombia or visit another country. Other reports about CR say its not even top 10 for mongering but your review says otherwise.

CR is convenient and easy. It hasn't been great for years.

But you can get good massages from massage therapists and go somewhere else for sex. As for Jaco others may chime in. I don't go there. Last time was maybe 10 years ago.

But you can get good massages from massage therapists and go somewhere else for sex. As for Jaco others may chime in. I don't go there. Last time was maybe 10 years ago.Just wrapping up a trip in San Jose. What Zeos said about Pensions is correct. Check out Pension Monica as they give massages plus extra. It's one of the larger pensions so you should have a better selection of chicas. The hotel I stayed at Taormina had a spa. Also near the hotel there were two massage places. I saw prices for $40-$80. I will post a review with more info this weekend.

San Jose. I had been to CR a couple of times on vacation but this was mt first mongering trip. I speak basic Spanish and can have conversations with chicas no problem. Middle aged not many gray hairs and no gut. Most chicas think I am 45 so problems I look around 50. This year I visited Panama City and San Marteen. IMO both of these places are better than CR for combination of chicas plus places to stay and things to do. I have never been to Columbia or Brazil. Planning a trip to Brazil this fall.
Here is what you need to know:
- I stayed at the Taormina. Staff is good and good free breakfast. Probably the best place to stay in centro San Jose. There are not a lot of nice places to stay plus with Taormina you have easy access to chicas. The exterior walls facing the street had no soundproofing. As a result the first two nights had terrible sleep and I asked for a new room. The manager was great and had no problem moving me. So make sure you get a room on 3rd or 4th floor with no street traffic. It's the side opposite the entrance.
- Room at Taormina had a sign not to flush toilet paper down the toilet. There was a small trash can with a lid next to the toilet. That is way too third world for me. Fuck that I flushed the toilet paper. But made sure not to use too much. No problem.
- Used eSIM from Nomad $25 for 10 GB, 5 GB probably would have worked.
- Buy condoms! Was in the room with my first chica and she asks if I have condoms. I was like: WTF. Yes the chicas at Taormina don't appear to have condoms. I had to call the bar and have condoms delivered to my room. LOL.
- Uber is the best form of transport. However, they are prohibited at the airport so may be hard to get one. If you take a taxi negotiate a fee up front as meters are not used. My taxi to the hotel was $35, Uber from hotel to airport was $30. I had to sit with Uber driver in front so we looked like regular commuters.
- Impressed with talent at Taormina. Many hotties, mostly Nicas and Ticas, few Columbiana. Better in my opinion than Panama and San Marteen.
- Taormina breakdown: The sports bar is small with columns and closed spaced tables so hard to see the full space. It's a small counter with about 8-9 chairs. Nice as a bar as it has many TVs. There is also the Jungle bar, which is huge and cool but was empty until Wednesday night. The pick ups happen in the small sports bar. On Monday hit the bar at 9 am and I was impressed with the talent. Make sure to pay in colones. The first time I paid in usd and the waitress really hosed up my change and had to tell her she over charged me by 5 dollars. A lot of the chicas come in pairs. That is no bueno for the solo monger as they often don't want to split off. I saw a lot of groups of dudes and chicas. Chicas looking at there phones and coming and going. This was amazing to me as other places I have been girls swarmed you the minute you sit down. Here is my take: this is not a tourist only location. There are a lot of chicas looking for local dudes. I think they also have local regulars. They also work side gigs as strippers. There is a local criminal crowd as I saw some of the locals are young flashy hoodlums, I. E. Drug dealers. So you may have to wait a while to get a hit. It just depends. It was not just me as I saw a lot of other young dudes sitting alone for a while. The longest it took me was 25 minutes on my first night (Monday) sipping on two beers. But the chica I got with was very fine and 8 for sure. Short petite, blonde dyed hair, thin, big man mades, nice round bubble butt. Totally thought she was a Columbiana but she said she was a Tica. I was in the bar around noon, 9 pm, 10 pm and 12:30 am. At 12:30 am Tuesday 15 chicas but low looks, total of 4 guys including me. I despaired finding a hottie and then Columbiana Tica tapped me on the shoulder. Yep did her again better then first time. Another time I walking to the elevator and popped my head around the corner to see who was in the bar and solid 7 immediately propped me to go with her. Unfortunately I just blew at Pension Monica and was in reload mode. Got her name for later.
- Rates at Taormina HR $100 +20-25 for extras like BBBJ. I had multiple girls quote $150/ HR with extras. Even had one refuse to come down from $150. $15 per girl to take back to room.
- Sportsman's is the expat / foreigner place to hang. More laid back for a beer. Talked to a sweet older chica who spoke good English around 1 pm on Wednesday. Was too old for me.
- Go to Pension Monica. Unfortunately many pensions were closed for holiday. Monica's was open but only 2 girls in the afternoon. Took the less hefty chica, thicker than I like but she was young and sweet. I made the right choice as she had great head game and decent massage. Clean room and good shower. Cost in colones 30000+10000 BBBJ. Well worth it.
- Dude named Christian hangs at Taormina and will bug you at breakfast every morning for a shoe shine. I took him up finally and he did a good job but asked for 40000 colones / $80. Said get the fuck out of here and gave him 5000.
- Little Havana pension / bar / hotel is good. Small place 3 chicas, one was a 7. Talked and had some beers but did not pull a lady was too early in the afternoon.
- I ate well. Check out Jardíand a Lolita. It's a place with many small restaurants and bars, like a food court but upscale. Gilbertas pizza between Little Havana, Taormina is good. Chimposo's street food was good.
Overall good trip. But other places I have been in Latin America I liked better. I would have liked to explore outside more of Taormina if I had more time. San Jose is a little too third world for me and was not a huge fan of the Taormina bar vibe. May be better to day hunt if I didn't work two days. Plus did not realize day before Good Friday was a Holiday.
- Room at Taormina had a sign not to flush toilet paper down the toilet. There was a small trash can with a lid next to the toilet. That is way too third world for me. I though El Castillo was a hotel.There has always been turnover of these pension businesses. Sometimes they have troubles with business licenses, sometimes other criminal investigations, etc. El Castillo is a hotel, the pension is a different place with same name. Not sure where it is.
Gentrification. Not exactly. Some of the area you are talking about have some of the oldest and most historically important mansions in the country. Remember seeing a RR Silver Shadow pull out of a garage across the street almost from where New Fantasy used to be. And the lot is rubble at the moment. The clean up plan seems to be to let street people pick away at the rubble brick by brick, and after a few years when it is mostly flat they make it into a parking lot.

Thanks.None of those are pensiones. Pensiones means they have a particular type of license allowing sex on premises without selling food or alcohol or renting rooms by the night. Some or all do sell food and alcohol, of course, no prohibition on that. This type of license is no longer being issued so basically the number of pensiones is capped and has been for a while.

Good to know. If you can afford mongering in better places why settle for less. That is my opinion, rather hit southern Spain and use a proper toilet while mongering. Was in Japan last week where they have the best toilets in the world. I have stayed at a $600 a night room at Tabacon resort in La Fortuna that was great. So its not Costa Rica its the little shit hole area of downtown San Jose that is too third world for me. Huacho, good for you that you have toured shitty third world LatAm & South America countries. I am glad to say that is not my thing and I don’t plan on having those experiences.

I have spent about twelve years living in Latin América and the only place I found to be shitty was Medellin. You might like South América better than Centroamérica if not flushing the toilet paper freaks you out. I will say that some of the places I lived in and enjoyed in México when I was younger aren't safe any more. I'm in Eastern Europe lately but I'll probably end up in or near San José for the final stretch.

I was in San Jose for 4 days, I went to the casino at Taormina every night and it was full of women, I'm fluent in Spanish so it was easy for me to communicate. Everyone there charge from $100 to $150. Before I took a girl I negotiated that BBBJ and 2 pops was included, some of them said NO and some agreed to my terms. If are not staying at Taormina you can pay $25 at the hotel the hotel reception and they give you a room 2 hours.
I stayed closest to Tormina at Delta Hotel By Marriot, this hotel is girl friendly but it costs $80 dollars to bring someone to your room. Peace!

I welcome the opportunity to speak on behalf of my favorite driver in San Jose. Over the years Jackson has become a good friend and is always a great source of info. His friendly attitude and insight are second to non. He knows a ton of people including all the girls who frequent Sportsman's Lodge, plus he has the connections for anything you may want on your trip.
I have used Jackson's services at least a few dozen times. He has a comfortable van and always picks me up at the airport (with a cold beer and a smile) and drops me off at the end of my trip. Why did I return to San Jose?
I returned to San Jose because during my January trip, I felt I barely scratched the surface of the city; especially the pensions and other places / chicas to eat.
This will be a shorter version of my regular trip reports. For more about logistics and the other bars / pensions I visited in January; please refer to my trip report in the "Reports of Distinction" section.

Again, I stayed at the Sportsmen Lodge. I joined CRT for the 10% discount card; it cost $39 a year. But this trip, I found out the hotel gives a 25% discount for cash.
The bar / restaurant always had 1 to 20 chicas running amuck; depending of the time of day. The staff that worked the bar was pretty hot as well.
Transportation:
The Sportsmen Lodge arranged for a driver to meet me at the airport; the cost was $30. Returning, I took an Uber and the cost was $21. During my stay, I only used Ubers.
Restaurants:
I did a lot of research before I left and here are my thoughts on the food scene:
Furca. Outstanding.
Jaguar Negro Outstanding.
Zona Gastro Bar Outstanding.
LA 45 Good.

Overall, the food was good to outstanding, except for the one place that sucked! I did not see any street food venders during my romp.

My last trip in January, I visited and reported on 10 clubs. This trip, I could only find 2 other clubs:

Comments: When I walked into the place, there were two small rooms with 3 chicas in each room. For me, there was only one decent option. There was no bar.

Comments: This place was less than a block from Siboney. It was a decent size place with friendly chicas. There was a full bar.

Number and quality: 5, OK to good.

Comments: This was another small cramped place. The chicas tried to explain the prices, but eventually gave up and pointed to the sign on the wall. There was no bar.
Pension: Malibu (bar, restaurant, and pension).
Sex: I did not ask about prices.

Final thoughts on San Jose:
It was a seeking putas and eating good food trip. I was told several parts of San Jose were unsafe. The area around Club Monaco was dangerous, but not the club.
I thought the rest of the city was quite safe and I never felt threaten in any manner. But then again, I took Ubers throughout my romp. I would have walked more, but the pinche rain downpours were daily.
Would I ever return to San Jose? No; three times were enough and I ran out of places to explore. Would I recommend it to other mongers? Absolutely! Overall, I had a great time!

I stayed there on a majority of my 15 or so trips to CR beginning in 2006 I believe, and, needless to say, had dozens of great experiences there. Has anyone stayed at Whiskey Barrel? How is it?I have stayed there twice and will be there again in 2 weeks. As far as the noise, I've had noisier rooms at Sportsmens. I absolutely love the Sportsmens, I love the Castillo in the dry season with their amazing Penthouses, but for value I just can't beat the Whiskey Barrel. The rooms are larger and cheaper, and the Bartenders Gretel and Carolina are fantastic! I have nothing good to say about the Taormina. I stayed there once. Never again.

Only thing is that I thought the rooms were really dated there, and the talent level poor. I have no plans to return to Costa Rica, but if I did I personally would not stay at the Taormina due to the low quality of the rooms and less than stellar talent. Others here have expressed opinions different from my own, and then still others agree with me. Ultimately, you will have to go and experience and decide for yourself.

His health has been failing for a few years now, so I can't say I am surprised. San Jose has changed dramatically over the past 25 years I have been going there. Seems us old timers and our old haunts are going by the way of the dinosaurs. I used to love hanging out at the expat bars (NY bar, piano bar, etc) to bullshit and listen to the stories of the retired old-timers (of which I am now one). Had many great times and memories with Bill over the years and will always remember and cherish them.
I used to go there to monger, but now I only go there because they have the best dentists on the planet and it is worth the travel.

I've always wondered why chicas don't chill at spots like this and Castillo more often.

Snook.It was a hotel. Don Carlos I think. It had a restaurant and gift shop and was sort of a classic barrio Amon building that had been a hotel for 30 years or more. The family that owns the property owned buildings across the street as well. And old family with a lot of property in that area. Corner of Ave 9 and Calle 9 on the SW corner of that intersection.
It is the old Hotel Don Carlos, across the street and down a block from Hotel Castillo. The rooms are great and inexpensive, they have the best hamburger in San Jose and their pizzas are great. Pensiones usually are only daytime places.
And Alcazar is a strip club, certainly open. Been there recently. And open at 10 pm normally, I think they open a bit earlier than that, but don't get rolling until around 11 pm so not sure what was going on if you went by there at 10.

You will be charged a significant fee to bring a girl into the Delta. It used to be around $100 US. There are alternative short term "motels" or love hotels around. The girls know about them and a taxi or Uber can take you to one of them.

I find the neighborhood between the Sportsmens and Castillo to be fairly safe and walkable at night, but less safe continuing on to the Taormina later at night.

More laid back crowd where the girls are not as aggressive as Taormina. Even in the pensions around town, you don't really need a lot of Spanish to get my. Just a few short phrases can get you by. They know why you are there and you know why they are there. Main thing to discuss is how much time and how much $$ Most pensions have a fixed price (about 14 k colones or $28). But you can pay a little extra for extras.

But if you are actually walking from Sportsmens to Taormina the most direct route is probably safest, going back toward INS and down that street is not noticeably better. I take the more one by INS sometimes because of where I live and to avoid going down the hill then back up, but I'm not sure there is any real difference for safety.
As to whether it is safe or not. Up till 8 or so at night I would say reasonably safe, I've walked generally that way many times. But that is assuming you are reasonably fit, could run if someone pulled a knife on you, and don't look vulnerable. That's my read anyway, and I live in that area. If you don't feel like you could run pretty well then take an Uber or cab or cars doing taxi service in front of Sportsmens.

Try Sportsman's Lodge and / or Hotel Castillo just up the street. Solves both problems. Many of the girls speak some English and they are decent places to stay. More laid back crowd where the girls are not as aggressive as Taormina. Even in the pensions around town, you don't really need a lot of Spanish to get my. Just a few short phrases can get you by. They know why you are there and you know why they are there. Main thing to discuss is how much time and how much $$ Most pensions have a fixed price (about 14 k colones or $28). But you can pay a little extra for extras.

Havana is very hit or miss. Wouldn't recommend wasting a lot of time there. If you go and they are there, then great, but would not hang there hoping for more to show up. From my experience, the girls I meet at Sportsmen's, Castillo, and Havana do not like Taormina, but they could be bullshitting me. I have no way to confirm.

No, Sportsmens does not specifically have short term rooms. If they have a lot of empty rooms they might cut you a deal on a one day rate. But I've been there a lot and I have not seen that.

Monicas is a pension most like a massage place in other countries. You can buy a beer, but there no bar. You can sit awkwardly with the chicas that are waiting for you to pick one of them. But that's it.
Little Havana Pension Bar.
It is sort of a hybrid, it does have a bar and it is a hotel as well as allowing the chicas to use short term rooms there. It is generally more expensive than the pensiones like Monicas, but cheaper than the bigger hotels like Taormina or Sportsmens or Castillo as far as what the chicas ask for.
Relax Pension.
Strictly a pension. You are lucky if there is a working shower, last couple of times I was there it was a bucket of water and a scoop.
El Castillo Pension.
Not sure where it is, but a basic pension I suspect.
Pension Portuguese.

I doubt that AC Marriott allows chicas in. Mall San Pedro is underwhelming, Multiplaza is fine, but why go there. And don't go all the way to Escazu for restaurants. Many in barrio Escalante, as well as in Sabana / Rohmoser areas.

Both will work, but suggest exchanging colons in a proper bank exchange counter and spend as the exchange offered may vary from vendor to vendor and generally not to our favor.

I got back yesterday after spending 5 days in my wonderland. Primarily stayed in Taormina and had to book rooms outside for 2 different nights since the chicas I initiated interaction with were not willing to come to Taormina, but both ended up being some very rememberable experiences away from the routine. First off I saw some recent maintenance related issues being reported at Taormina, but I did not experience any and both the condition of the room and the maintenance seems to be at par with what I had experienced in the past. It was raining literally every single day and probably that slowed things down at Taormina, it was completely dead during the day hours and started getting crowded after 7 PM or so. Taormina is already decorated for Halloween and they got some events going on towards the end of October. Nothing new except Just the standard routine. One learning from this trip, Never never change your currency at the airport. Unlike other visits, this time I paid attention to what I'm getting back. Was offered 420 Colons for a $1 at the airport and surprised to get 490 colons for a $1 at a regular bank exchange counter in down town. It's a lot to lose if you choose to do it. Taormina had good range of young ones versus older ladies, but the experience is getting more mechanical and perhaps a longer appointment may improve the experience a bit. Or would I then have to pay for double occupancy?The rates you likely are seeing are all inclusive, meaning you don't pay for food or drinks (for yourself but not for chicas). The food is generally OK but not great. Some dishes are quite good.
I've only stayed in the cheapest rooms there, which are very basic. I stayed a night there recently and the room wasn't clean, the sheets were very low quality. I'm pretty sure it was my last time staying there.
The best thing about the Castillo is there are no chica fees, which can add up at the Taormina. So there's no need to worry about double occupancy. If you add up what you would spend for food, drinks, and chica fees, it's likely a better deal, especially if you do all your drinking and eating there.
The women that hang out there are generally older, less aggressive, and just more chill. I've always met my long-time friends there, so never picked one up there, but the ones that have chatted me up while I was waiting for my novia seemed nice. They definitely skew older.
In general it's much more low key with a much smaller selection than the Taormina. The best thing I like about it is it's much quieter than the Taormina or the Sportsmen. Even when I'm not staying there, I usually end up there at least one night for food and drinks just to get away from the noise.

Always best to use colones for virtually everything in CR. Make sure to avoid the currency exchanges at the airport. Banks and ATMs generally reliable.

A 25 min drive might not help but as long as your okay paying for her ride back or to her place.

.Taormina charges $12 for short term, $20 all night. Varying reports if booking for 2 has an effect on the number of chica fees you have to pay. Others have said booking for two gets the first chica free but that hasn't been my experience. YMMV. Late on a weekday Taormina is your best bet. Castillo shuts down relatively early and the Sportsmens isn't very active late on a weekday. Don't worry about Colones for your first night. Any savings you get by using CRC will be eaten up by the exchange rate you get at the airport. If you absolutely insist on using CRC use an ATM for your second night, but IME you really don't end up saving much and it's not worth the hassle.

Relatively speaking never seen Taormina dead, there is almost always some one waiting out there to pleasure you.

That said, for point and shoot, if you stay in an Oz hotel near Playa Hollywood in Cartagena, you can walk across to the beach (get the non-gringo menus) order a drink and basically every single girl on the beach is for sale. They will ask stupid prices, you say know until they come to a reasonable price, something along the order of $300 k COP for 2 hours ($75 USD ish). The Oz hotels in Getsemani, closest to Playa Hollywood, allow guests and no additional cost as of my last trip in January of 2025. Go to the beach, have a cold drink, catch some rays, find a chica, negotiate, take her.
To your room, have a nice 2 hours, go back to the beach, repeat.
At night, walk the old city (100's of girls out on a weekend night), pick one, take a short uber ride back to your room, have fun, then go to one of the nightclubs and repeat with a chica from there.
If you have a full load saved up, you could easily knock out 4 chicas over a nice day: 1 at 2 PM from PH, another at maybe 4-5 PM, go to dinner in the old city, stroll, pick up another at maybe 8-9 PM, have fun. Rest till midnight, head to the club, have fun till 2 AM, take another home and have her stay till 9-10 AM if you're so inclined.
Can repeat until you can't take it anymore. Was great for a 3 day weekend, really enjoyed that.
Blackbeards in Puerto Plata (never been, going off reports) is essentially an enclosed resort, where the chicas come hang out by the bar / pool / etc, and you pick one up, take her to the room, engage and then relax by the pool until you're ready for another. Sounds a lot like the Jaco situation, which might be a good option too. Not enough variety for me, which is why I liked the DIY approach of Cartagena more.
To each their own, but there's so many options where things are pretty "easy", including Plaza Botero in Medellin, Santa Fe area of Bogota, Parque Lleras in Medellin, San Nicolaas area in Aruba, etc, etc. Check out those forums for posts by myself and others and you can see what the gameplan is.
But wherever you go, be sure to report back as good info is the best for all of us!!

Spent a night at Sportsmen's Lodge last night. Meh. I have stayed there maybe 15 times for as long as I week, over a 20+ year period, but this was my first one-nighter. I am staying elsewhere in a place that does not allow visitors, so that was the motivation. Roads in the central valley vary a lot, and when I see groups of riders on a Sunday morning, for example, they appear to be headed out of town. To the north from the area I am in, toward Heredia and surrounding towns I assume. Cycling is not all that safe in the city here, as roads, traffic controls, etc. Are bad. And traffic can be horrible especially weekdays.
Theft would be a problem. I don't think it would be safe to leave your bike unattended, even locked up, for more than minutes. Especially and mostly in the city.
There is a large city park in Sabana, and there are paths in it for bikes. But that would be a 10 minute bike ride end to end, so not significant for serious riders.
Having said all of that I think there would be lots of interesting routes around the central valley, and up to higher elevation small towns, and with caution relatively safe. Avoiding rainy season would be key, basically from now until mid April are the prime times, and rains can be more persistent all other months. Chances of rain on any given day in October, for example, are around 98 percent. It is not rain all day, usually, but virtually every day. In January the chances of rain in any given day are very low. Guessing more like 5%. So that gives you an idea of the contrast.
Temperature wise I think the central valley around San Jose is as close to perfect for cycling as is possible.

I don't claim to be a vet by any means, but been there few times. As always with anything, we all run into odd ones time to time but in general my experience has been good. Usually ladies shuffle around few locations. Taormina, Sportsman, Castilla and few other ones which are very walkable. Most of the places go quiet after dinner hours but Taormina gets busy after 8 PM. You can stay any of these locations, and hop between these and take the ones back to your location. Good luck.

I just got back from San Jose and here is my review of my favorite mongering venue in the entire world. I have been to Costa Rica before but never to the Tao. I absolutely love the setup of the place! I like that the girls are independent and can come and go when they please. There are multiple distinct areas and you can always pull the girls to a quieter area to chat. The drinks aren't absurdly overpriced and you don't have to buy a girl a drink to talk to her. Although I do think that the quality of girls doesn't quite compare to those in the nightclubs of other LATAM countries. Also, a similar girl will cost 20-40% less in other LATAM countries. Still, I definitely much rather prefer the setup at the Tao.
I went to the Tao 6 times over the span of my 2 week stay. There are girls there everyday; it doesn't matter if it's Monday or Saturday. Based on my experience, it's not really worth going before 10 PM on weekdays. While there are girls, there is not an abundance to choose from and the girls are lower quality. After 10 AM, the girls really start rolling in. I found most of the girls to be average looking. Every now and then there would be a chica that looked great, but they were definitely rare. For the most part, the better looking girls started their asking price at $150/ HR, but could be negotiated down to $100 or $120. There was one Panamanian stunner that asked for $250. Lookwise, she was worth it but there wasn't much connection and she surely didn't look like the type that aimed to please so I passed.
I ended up taking 4 girls back to my AirBnB. Note that I found it extremely difficult to find an AirBnB that was girl friendly. I paid $100 to 2 girls, $120 to 1 girl who I repeated with, and $150 to an instagram model quality girl. The other thing that I enjoyed about the Tao was that there was a decent opportunity to find a semi-pro. I would say that maybe two-thirds of the girls that go there are regulars and the other third go sporadically.

My first night there, I did not arrive until after 10 PM, and I was starving so I had a meal at the restaurant which is connected to the hotel. The meal and the service were solid. After that, I was pretty tired, but wanted to check out the action in the bar. I just wanted to get a drink before I started to mingle and as soon as I did, a very attractive woman introduced herself to me. She was very forward and wanted to go up to my room, immediately. I was taken aback as I've never been approached by a woman in a bar, and even under the circumstances in which I knew it was a hooker, I was surprised by how forward she was. It really is a buyer's market in there.
Anyway, we went up to the room after I paid the $15 fee to the hotel. I asked her how much, and she started with $200, but I talked her down to $100. As the clothes came off, I was less impressed with her. She was probably mid 30's with lots of tattoos, but the breasts were nice. Everything was on the table, although she was reluctant to kiss since I talked her down from $200. Overall, I wasn't that impressed with the session, but it was fine for $100. She said she was from an hour away which is why she asks for $200, and she said she can get that much in Jaco.
The next day, I just walked around the city and explored the neighborhoods and the downtown. Overall, it wasn't too impressive and there wasn't a whole lot to do. There also isn't a whole lot to do at the hotel since I really don't like to gamble and I really only wanted a romp every other day. I will say that I never felt unsafe and there is a heavy police presence in downtown. I did not go out at night. I was able to check out a few restaurants in downtown and that were pretty good.
At any rate, on the third day I went down to the bar at 8 PM. I wanted to go down and check out the action while it was less busy so I could walk around and talk to more women. This time I got a drink and sat down. At this time, the women are not very aggressive and just sit around and play on their phones. I did approach a couple of women, but I believe they might have been locals who are not sex workers and the conversation died pretty quickly. After 15 minutes, I saw a really hot Latina, I smiled at her and bought her a drink. Her English was okay, but I don't speak Spanish at all, so there wasn't much conversation before going up to my room. She said she usually asks for $150, but would take $120. She was really hot and a lot of fun. I ended up getting her WhatsApp and saw her two more times.
I did not see any other women while I was there. I would have liked to try other women, but I am not a night owl and I don't speak much Spanish so I decided to just stick with her for the rest of the trip.
Overall, the trip was fine, but I stayed too long and there isn't much to do in San Jose. A few days there probably would have been fine. I don't know if I'd repeat, but if I did, it probably wouldn't be for more than a couple of days. The Hotel Taormina isn't that great, but I don't know if I'd stay elsewhere because it may be difficult to get some of the women to leave the hotel and come with you and I didn't want to navigate the city at night. Hope this report helped!

I was there middle of the month from W-to Sunday. It is weird to stay at Taormina. There is an increase of Indian tourists just waiting for girls to arrive from 6-8 pm when there are slim pickings. Near the elevators there are two sofas and one dude sits on one end, while the other sits on other end so 4 dudes total while a few more are just standing near the elevators playing with their phones while waiting for chicks to arrive. I think the place gets better once they open all the rooms and you mingle around but otherwise it is a tiny place for mongering. If will get monotone if you are just sticking to Taormina. Try going to the strip clubs on weekends, and the casas / pensiones for a massage or BBJ in the mornings / afternoons.

OK, sorry but not sorry for this rant because I feel like it has to be said:
San Jose is just not that great. It really isn't. And I do not understand how anyone could rate it as "the greatest mongering destination known to man" or whatever hyperbole has been posted. I can tick off 6 or 8 places I would go first before going back to San Jose. That out of the way, here are the details.
I had the week of New Year's off from work and would normally have gone to Colombia, but tickets were pricey and this was the case for other preferred destinations as well. I looked into San Jose and tickets were reasonable, especially using points, so I booked a trip. Haven't visited SJO for chicas ever, but was familiar with it from stumbling into the old Del Rey back in 2005 while on a Central American motorcycle trip.
Got a room at La Amistad, just down the block from Sportsmens Lodge, which was very convenient.
General SJO Observations:
1) New Year's Eve / Day. SJO is a ghost town, like waiting for tumbleweeds to roll by type of ghost town. Absolutely nothing going on, primarily due to all the Ticos going to the beach. That's fine, Sportsmens still has TVs to watch college football and a *few* chicas, so all good.
2) Taormina was also the-E-the dead and very little going on until the 2nd / 3rd of January, which was also fine as they too have TVs to watch the bowl games and food that was more than passable.
3) Chica quality. Completely subjective opinion, but honestly I DO NOT understand how anyone can consider these chicas as smoking hot, especially in comparison to Medellin, Bogota, Cartagena or Habana. Nearly all the chicas in Sportsmens were 30+ and several 40+. They nearly all had the standard Tica / Nica square ass shape, which is fine I guess, but I prefer my chicas to be curvy, sexy, fun and flirtatious and very few of these girls had even 1 of those attributes. Most were old, flabby, and just not that attractive in my opinion.
4) Chica deliverables. Likely due to their age, these girls have been around the block more than 100 times. They know the game, know that the majority of their clientele coming down are much older gentlemen who just want some female attention and thus they tailor their offerings. Sad, sad, sad. Nearly all turned down BBBJ, period. Of the 8 I went with over a 4 day period, 2 sucked the dick raw compared to 100% in Medellin, 100% in Bogota, 100% in Cartagena and 100% in Habana. It's just crazy that they flat will NOT suck the dick without a condom. I even negotiated, offered slightly more, etc. Nope. These girls were covered only, which was just a complete turn off.
5) Chica pricing. OMG, seriously, a few girls asked for $250, a couple even said $300. The prices requested were so outrageous I literally laughed in their faces. Like, seriously, you're a moderately attractive older woman (30's) and you think that you deserve $250-300 for all covered service!? Like what in the actual fuck are you talking about? These girls are deranged. But given the general clientele of very older men, perhaps that's why they think they're hot shit. They haven't had anyone tell them they are not.
6) Sportsmens is cool. Bartenders Angie, Diana and Georgina (I think) are all attractive, flirtatious, good conversation and make a great mixed drink. Good fun just chatting with them. Food was surprisingly good. I had the menu ejecutivo twice, and the soup was spectacular on both occasions (cream of asparagus one day, cream of pumpkin another). Pizza crust beautifully crispy and toppings also good. Arroz con pollo (chicken and rice was excellent). Even better were the guys I met there. Pretty much solid dudes from the US and Europe, buying rounds, shooting the shit, hanging out, telling stories, honestly the absolute best part of the trip, hands down.
7) Taormina. Also cool but loud and crowded with just far too much noise to easily communicate unless I dragged a girl out to the lobby / casino entrance area to chat / negotiate. Drink prices were reasonable, as at Sportsmens, and it was a good time just watching the chicas move through the sports bar. Didn't go to Jungle because it was closed two days and on 2 other days it had very few girls in it, so no real viewpoint on it. Loved getting a table in the middle of the sports bar with the guys I met from Sportsmen's and just taking in the scenery.
8) Bar Little Havana. Like a mini version of Taormina or Sportsmens. Have TVs playing YouTube music videos, primarily whatever the bartender and owner / manager want to play. The drinks were good and reasonably priced and the soap de pollo was very good. Between 4-5 girls in attendance, only 2 of which were under 35 from what I could tell and they were the only two I would consider taking to the room, one of which I did.
9) Tinder. Kinda worth it, could be really worth it with some effort. Got a TON of matches, ended up seeing 4 from Tinder, 2 of which I ALSO saw in Taormina, which was funny and we had a good laugh together on that. Similar pricing $100 for an hour, covered service, came to Amistad, etc. If I was going to be in SJO for more than a week, I think I'the stick to Tinder only as it's the only place to find girls 20-25 that weren't fat and / or unattractive, with minor exceptions, in the bars.
Finally #10) Stuck in the 80's. Now, don't take this the wrong way, but GODDAMN people, LET THE 80's GOOOOOOO. Some of the places were full on Superbowl weekend, so it was busier. And more girls showed up. Valentines it is more likely that they might stay away and spend time with their husbands or boyfriends. I was out last night and it seemed busy enough though.
