I will get the VIP card when I get there, and then check in so I can save 20. That's 35 a night which seems really cheap. I just hope the rooms don't look anything like the 30 minute rooms.
Also, it says I get half off lap dances with the VIP card. Does that mean I get 50% off the 40. 00 for 30 minutes in the VIP room, or is it 50% off one lap dance and thats it. To keep it good, I recommend 1 night in Cascada, then Ticuan, then back to Cascadas. Go in Big then relax and enjoy the city then go out Big.I agree. Play it by ear, day-by-day. I stayed at Cascadas for three days and had no problems, but I can sleep anywhere. One suggestion I have is to walk through a shopping area and buy a cheap box fan (I spent about $6) and bring it to your room. It is useful not just in case the AC is low, but as white noise. The traffic circle with Abe Lincoln has 4 or 5 right there. You can also hit Container, Cats, La Revancha. Some of the best food and cocktails to be had in Tijuana are at Mision 19 and Bar 20. Even the Sanborn's at Plaza Rio has live music in the evenings. Cripes. There is so much to Tijuana outside of the Zona Norte it boggles the mind.

Just a brief update on Friday night, seemed a bit lighter crowd than the usual. Had a fun time with a new chica, well she's not really new, just took a year off and recently returned. On my second day trip to Tijuana, went to HK and had a drink there, Monday night, around 9 pm. The waiters are a pain. And nobody understands English. The US treats its good citizens like criminals, and its criminals like valued treasures. Every other country I can think of has short lines for their own citizenry.
Now having said that, there are photos at the beginning of the line that explains the documents required. The "Ready Lane" is for people with some sort of RFID identification, which for us is usually a passport card. I don't think that includes the new RFID passports, but I'm not positive. Then there is the SENTRI line and the regular line. AFAIK, all passports have to languish in the longest line.

I believe we need more of that. Everyone can apply for a sentry or global entry if you want to use the fast track. My SENTRI and GOES interviews seemed to me to mostly concentrate on potential drug smuggling, based on the kinds of questions they asked. I really don't feel any safer now, with the 60 year old Filipino CBP agent asking if I have anything to declare, than I did when you could practically cross and recross the border at will.

I've been reading this forum and another for a while now and have finally prepared my first trip. The main reason for my trip is to check out Hong Kong and Adelita's, but will probably check out the other bars nearby as well. Under normal circumstances it makes sense for governments to make it easier for citizens to cross the border than non-citizens (I won't go down the rabbit hole of differences based on how one became a citizen). Citizens can vote, for one thing. In this bizarro world of the war on terror (and I agree with Phordphan that the war on drugs is similar) other priorities take precedence and that results in people ending up in the long, slow line for reasons they do not agree with.

I advise to not bring in anything larger than a $50 bill. I normally go to the Bar and ask for $1's there. I count the money in front of them to make sure they counted it correctly. I'm sure you've read posts where the waiters have cheated guys and don't return with the the change. It has happened to me once and I never have a waiter change it for me again.

I've been reading this forum and another for a while now and have finally prepared my first trip. The main reason for my trip is to check out Hong Kong and Adelita's, but will probably check out the other bars nearby as well. 3. Is anyone from this board going to Hong Kong on Halloween? Or the day before perhaps?I usually make a trip to my bank before each Tijuana trip. Stock up on 1's 5's and 10's. I have found it best to seperate your money by denomination and now which pocket to go to for which bill. While you can get change at the bar, I find it to be a hassle and better to come prepared. It is also a good idea to hit a cambio in San Ysidro and change a 20 or 2 into pesos. The exchange rate in San Ysidro is usually a little better than you will find in Tijuana. I have found the best time to use pesos is when dealing with SG's. You will find an instant savings, when they ask for 20 dollars counter with 200 pesos and you will save about 4 dollars. I would stay away from bringing 50's or 100's. As far as 20's go its a good idea to have a bunch of them for back up. Just be careful where you keep them. Many people carry them in socks and shoes, but the bandito policia have been looking there. It is a good idea to sew a hidden pocket somewhere in to your clothing or find somewhere unconvential to stash the bulk of your bankroll.
As far as the coupon for 50% off at Cascadas it is a great deal. I used one a couple weeks ago. It can be kind of a hassle to use coupons in Mexico. I started out by finding a masero in LC who new a bit of english, (look for Eric he might remember how the coupon works) in the begining they couldn't figure out what I was trying to do they thought it was for 50 % off your beer. But anyway once they figure it out the manager will sign the back of the coupon. Then take it to the hotel and be prepared to wait awhile while they try to figure it out. But once they do you will get your 50 dollar room for 25.
And I will be there Halloween It is a fun day to be in the zona. I remember last year right around dusk a fog rolled in the ambience was perfect.

However, use your best judgment, when you feel like you are staying long enough and eyeing the girls, or you feel like you want to get to your happy zone, go get a drink and give yourself that buzz, when a girl is being nice and staying with you without forcing you to buy a drink, you may consider buying her a drink, if you like her, don't feel obligated though (I used to, now I don't, its my money damn it) , you don't have to buy a drink if you are at the bar, but it would be bad taste if you sit there without a drink, and don't tip the girl.
Don't be a total cheapo (I will be the first to admit I sometimes am) , but you don't have to break the bank to enjoy the sights, be it the mesero or the chica, if someone treats you well, give 'them a tip

The girls must sell drinks. Each bar has a minimum of drink fichas per arriba. If they don't meet their quota they can't go up or they have to make it up out of their pocket, generally speaking. If you sit too long with a girl and don't buy her a drink she will get hassled by the mesero. They can nurse the drink as long as they like, within reason.
You do need to buy some sort of drink if you watch the show. Nothing's free. The mesero's can't force you to buy a drink but, in theory at least, if you refuse to buy something the manager could ask you to leave.

If you "park" yourself in a seat just to watch "for free" for any amount of time, I do believe the management will ask you to buy a drink or leave. You can say you are waiting for a "date" to arrive and get away with it, but you know (NOTHING in this world is FREE!)( Shit you pay for good weather in San Diego to live there!) so buy a drink. I have been told twice to leave HK by waiters for just standing still and not having a drink. My only successful strategy has been to keep moving and just stand in one place for several seconds at a time. If they ask me to buy a drink I tell them I am looking for my amigo and then walk on.
I like to check out the action in HK then do the same in other bars. If I go into HK 4 or 5 times during the night I don't want to buy that many drinks.

No I agree with Keg. If you are going to go to Tijuana with any regularity (not a one shot deal) you WON"T pay these prices. (unless you are wealthy or crazy!) You don't pay STICKER for a Ford . BUT when you pay $100 to a chica and you want a repeat believe me you set the bar with her. YOUR price is $100. These chicas KNOW what they got or get from each "client"! I was at Hong Kong club last night. My second HK experience was not all that great primarily because the club was absolutely packed on Saturday night. The problem is the walkway between Pepes and Hong Kong.I park at Pepe's all the time. Overnight parking also no issue.
Walkway from there to HK is very short but I agree it is a bit shady at night. Just try to walk fast and away from the wall (in plain sight). Usually no thieves here because nobody expects anyone to walk past here.

Well after living in San Diego for a few years, I finally decided to check out Tijuana and Hong Kong. I did my research on the forum and it helped a lot so thanks to all those who have contributed. When I was in Japan a friend of mine use to say we were slumming in Asia compared to the fine women in Tijuana. To be honest I didn't believe him until last night. I use to look at the high quality female pics on BP but was never willing to pay what they wanted and I am glad I didn't. I am kicking myself in the ass for not going to Tijuana sooner.
