I'll be there also during those dates, Adidas and W20415. Why not get a subscription so you fellows can PM.

Having said that, I'm not sure if I'll be able to hook up, i'm meeting my GF there, but if things aren't crackin with her, I'll ditch her and hang out at the malls or bars and find some strange.

I plan to spend 2 days in AC. I have reservation at Pacific Breeze for March 14 & 15.

Planning to meet up with Jazzy Daddy.
Anyone else in Angeles to hang out either of these dates?

Will be driving up from Manila in case anyone wants to hitch a ride.

Thanks, Bob

This summer I travel amongst others in the PI (and Laos + north Thailand) with my European wife. Regretful of that I still want to have some fun.

What I look for is Cities with Bikini clubs in which they give a little show (like Ilo Ilo and Tacloban). So NOT the meat selling things like Bilbao.

Second thing is what I like in a City is something like a ST low key mamasan thing (in Cambodia they will call it a chickenfarm) like Jonquera in cebu or Delgado street in IloIlo to sneak out for a hour.

If you now also places outside PI (Laos, Thailand (I know ofcoarse Pattaya+Bangkok and Hua Hin which sucks), or Kulala Lumpur then thats also welcome (if the webmaster alows).

In Hong Kong cheap part (vast land near the mean shopping street) there is also a Bikini club filled with Pinay. Nice to mention that the Pinay there had big tits (something what I miss on most girls in the PI). But that can be a result of the fact that most Pinay start to eat much if they are in richer countries. I saw once 35 yo ladies from Dunanguette who live in Austria. They looked like Indonesia woman. So nothing to play with (unless you like mamasan types with round faces+bellies who will squize you wenn they ly on top. But most asian whorist (including me) like the small childisch ones.)

Thanks for all

Gents,

First of all, thanks in advance for your assistance. I'm a regular poster on the Singapore board (and others whenever I travel) and am in need of some advice. I'm hoping I've dished out enough vital info by now to merit some in return. ;-)

I live in Singapore, I'm white, early 40's, no model but not bad looking either, so I've been told. I have a 7-9 days to spend on my own sometime over the next few months and plan to spend it making my first foray into the Philippines. Basically, I need some advice from some of you PI experts as to where I should spend my time in order to maximize my shagging prospects.

Obviously, I know Angeles City is considered sex central, but what I prefer is the temporary girlfriend type, non-pro or semi-pro cute, young girls who I'm able to pick up in malls, regular clubs and so forth. And by 'young girls' obviously I mean of legal age. I do have a thing for students part-timing it to pay their tuition though so I'd also need to know when school is in session and when it's not. And when and where are the best ways to get in touch with this sort of chick. I'm hitting up a few on Friendster and DateinAsia with some success already but finding a lot of those, perhaps most, are 'good girls' who, frankly, I don't have time to waste on courting since I'm going to be there only a short time.

I'm willing to travel anywhere in the country and probably would prefer to do this as opposed to staying in one place the entire week. I like variety and don't intend to stay with just one or two girls all week long. One or two new ones each day would suit me just fine. Obviously, I don't plan to see the whole country in a week, but I've gathered that I should at least visit Manila and Cebu or the Leyte area. And probably at least a night in Angeles just for the experience if time permits.

So then...before I start to ramble too much, suggestions please? Past comments from ISG that stick in my mind are 'the farther away from Angeles, the sweeter the girls are' and another comment about a university town not far from Cebu in Leyte (I think) just loaded with college girls hoping to get picked up. Ormoc City or Tacloban I think it was. Sounds like exactly what I'm after.

Again, thanks very much in advance!

I'm not getting any joy on the CP website as I try to book a flight from MNL to DVO. I keep getting a "Sorry your transaction cannot be processed at this time."

This is over two days of occasional attempts. They offer a co-branded MasterCard, which is what I am using, so I wouldn't think that would be the issue.

Has anyone else had this problem or better yet know of a solution? I guess I can call them directly.

SbySWI had the same problem with the CP website for a trip MNL to BKK in January. Tried a different card (actually used a debit rather than credit card) and it worked fine. For shuch a cheap fare I was impressed with the service and aircraft used by CP and would be happy to use again.

I think GG posted the same thing in the chat section and there are some answers there.

Most cities have college girls. Ormoc has three colleges, but they are smallish. Dumaguete, CDO, and Davao all have potential in this area. As for the first two, I was there when schools were on holiday so cannot comment. In Davao, the Galleria Hotel is near the Doctor's College and several blocks away, in the downtown area, you'll find a branch of Mindanao Uni. There is also a uni across the street from Marco Polo. In Cebu, the Diplomat Hotel is near the med school on Ramos.

I think the schools have a break in March or April as that is their "summer".

But don't limit yourself to college girls. Make yourself some cards with your number and pass them out freely. I passed out three cards at the tiny Gaisano Mall in Ormoc two weeks ago and got two responses. One resulted in a date (and she's now begging me to come back) and the second (what a body...) turned out to be a married woman, but she gave my card to a "nurse" who texted me several times after I had already left Ormoc.

I've never been to Tacloban, but you might find some reviews in the "other areas" thread. Look for posts by Mahku.

AmavidaHi Amavida,

Hey man, how ya goin.? Cebu Pacific may possibly accept credit cards if you are enrolled in the "verified by VISA/MASTERCARD" program. I know from some of my American friends that the Cebu Pacific online booking system does not accept U.S credit cards. When you ring Cebu Pacific Manila office you will have a problem getting through and when you do get thru you just cannot make any sense from Cebu Pacific staff. This airline does offer flights at very attractive prices and are generally a lot cheaper than PAL. I will give you an example of what happened to me in January 2008. I wanted 3 tickets to Butuan in Mindanao. There was a promotion P3,500 return so I said O.K I'll have three tickets. " Sorry sir all the tickets have been sold." "Well, I'll have 3 tickets at the 'non promo' price, how much will that be?" "Sir, that will be P31,500, P10,500 each ticket." Fortunately, I was not that desperate and I did'nt go.

Cebu Pacific must be losing several hundred thousand pesos by not having an efficient online booking system. It is a pity because they have a modern fleet and offer reasonably good inflight service.

There have been instances where mongers have made succesful online bookings but this has been the exception rather than the rule.

You take care, you off soon. Where are you going this time? Hey, if you go to AC say hello to all the girls maybe you can buy them all ladies' drinks. When I get there I'll return the favour. LOL.

Have a great time, Waz.

Got tired of trying, so I went with Philippine Airlines on the CheapOAir site. Ironically, they only accept US / CAN cards and addresses.

So May 5 - 17 in Davao it is.

Yes Waz I have platinum cards that are in the verified by VISA/MASTERCARD program. I have been using CP routinely for several years. I just go online find the flight, make the booking & pay. They email me the ticket & boarding info. No problem. If im buying tickets for a friend or relative i just email them the ticket/boarding info, they print it out & present it to the counter at the airport. One time I went to a local office to buy a ticket, they were unable to print the ticket but it was emailed to me. I went to the airport & showed them the ticket in the email on my 3G cell phone & they let me board no problem because it they knew already that the ticketing system was borked.
If you dont have a recognised credit card, just go online find the flight booking info & them ring the call center in Cebu (not Manila) and ask for the flight using the exact details in hand. I agree that making a booking 'blind' through the call centers is very dodgy.
Try buying a ticket for a relative with PAL.. they dick you around insisting you print out & mail some stupid form.. no thanks!

Manila Office: +63-2-70-20-888

Cebu Office: +63-32-230-8888

The problem is with the credit card company NOT Cebu Pacific.
For instance many aussie credit card issuers absolutely will not honor any transaction in Malaysia - period. They say too much fraud.
As one of the other posters said call your credit card company & get them to allow transactions with CP.
One of the reasons I bank with Citibank is hasslle free world wide & the other is no fees. Something Aussies have to suffer from their local banks.

AmavidaHello Amavida,

I'm sorry mate but I have to disagree with you when you say that the credit card companies are to blame when Cebu Pacific does not accept online booking transactions. A friend of mine in the U.S after waiting on hold for 40 minutes, yes 40 minutes and paying with a debit card. He receives an email telling him they don't accept debit cards for telephone transactions. Please call back with credit card details which they don't accept anyway. Cebu Pacific has its head office in Manila and the call centre is in Cebu. It does not matter which number you ring you will not get any satisfaction. It would appear that Cebu Pacific is managed by morons.

In any inefficient and poorly managed system-you will always find errors creeping in, as in the few cases where international credit cards are actually accepted by the Cebu Pacific online booking system. THIS IS NOT THE NORM. Where some bookings do slip thru the net of incompetence this is merely due to good luck than good management. If one booking does make it -there would be several thousand that did not.

Regards and thank your mother for the rabbits.

AmavidaTo all ISG members,

Why go through all this head ache?

Have you guys heard of travel agents?

They're all over Manila, they all speak good english, you can compare cost on all airlines, and is faster than calling the airlines yourself.

You can pay cash or use credit card.

Most of the time you get the best fare there.

Fast Eddie 48Hey there FF,

My experiences with agents have been less than stellar.

I mainly use the internet heavily via computer & a 3G cell phone and make all my bookings for flights & accommodation myself. No middle man to stuff things up, and usually MUCH quicker.

Going to a travel agent in the Phils is a VERY different experience to that of a developed country - lots of queuing & waiting around in crowded & poorly ventilated offices to be attended to by poorly trained staff. Not my cup of tea thanks.

The only agent i use consistently is Asiarooms.com for hotel bookings, very fast response & good prices. Airlines I book direct always via the net.
YMMV

Well, first advice is to learn how to spell Philippines.
You don't tell us what you have in mind, but from MNL you can fly to Dumaguete. From Cebu city you can take the "ocean jet" ferry or bus/ferry, and maybe fly.
An option I haven't tried is crossing the spine of Cebu and then taking a ferry across to abc Negros. Is it Don Carlos? Well, if that is what you want, ask and I'll try to dig up the place names.

In Dumaguete, I stayed at La Residencia Al Mar on the waterfront 225 7100. Bay view rooms were small, but the place has a nice feel to it. Night security guys tend to stare ....kind of pissed me off since you have to walk up the staircase strait up from the front desk. Half way up the stairs turn around and ask, "Are you looking at my ass or hers?" Then laugh. They have nothing to do all nigt so you can't blame them for looking at your ass....or your girl's ass. I worked my first two years of college as a security guard so believe me, it is a boring job.

I also stayed at a place that had a floor to ceiling window overlooking the park. It could be noisy, but I don't remember sleeping much that night. Had roof top restaurant. I posted on this before, but maybe a year ago.

Maria Plaza Luisa 225 7994 cheap, on one side of the park. I checked it out, but didn't stay, would want to see the room before paying.

Bethel house is the largest building in town, waterfront, but conservative. 225 2000. If you check in with a girl, tell them you are married or some other bull. If you have a steady girl, this would be good. Probably nice views from the upper floors.

Try to get out to the waterfall. You will not regret it. I took a ride out to xyz city, very nicely kept town, and the hiked all the way (mostly on a road), but some people rent an ATV for the road, and then only have a staircase and short walk (15min) to get to the main event. I skinny dipped under the falls since there were only the two of us. She didn't join in.....but eventually got naked later that night, at the hotel, on our 2nd date.

Beach option would be Apo island. Good snorkeling and diving.

Hope you can post a bit about you online exp on the chat thread.

Hope you can post a bit about your Negros experiences after your trip.

I realize the main topic here is sx, but info on cities, hotels, beaches, ambience, etc, is also allowed and very much encouraged.

I have a Visa and a Mastercard

My Visa card is always rejected with online CebuPacific bookings - thats already 1 year old news!

My mastercards always works however - that Mastercard has an extra sscc (or so) security code you have put in everytime.

I just think too many times Cebu Pacific lost money on bad bookings so they just turned up their security level on internet bookings - already 1 year ago.

Has nothing to do where you come from.

Negative is that they dont respond on emails too from that time ...(they get just too manny...) - but if you get on the plain it is they performe in most cases good (asside of the stupid entertaiment games they play and someimes a delay of 5 hrs in with they just dont inform the passengers - that how it works in the PI)

Yes I have used Agoda in the past but they were much slower confirming bookings compared to Asiarooms on the one time i tried them.

Cheers mate!

I just finished booking my holiday on the internet, I looked up Asiarooms for instant confirmation hotels and they came back with only one $180 a night in Manila no thanks.

I then compared Aisarooms to booking direct with the hotel and found I can get instant confirmation from the hotel at the same or better price than Asiarooms, better to compare travel sites I say.

Hi, ok compare them with www.asiatravel.com, I used them plenty of times, excellent prices with direct confirmation and regular savings around 30-40% on the best price the Hotel can offer over the phone.

There is plenty of choice from the cheapest to any 5 Star Luxury too.

No problem with Credit Card Bookings and the pre-payment system works a treat as it means the Hotel is paid up and happy when you arrive.

One excellent point was when I booked my Dubai Hotel for my return journey, whilst I was in Cebu, I though all was ok but apparently the Hotel was full.
They called me, gave me a list of similarly priced availability, I chose and they booked for me, all over the phone and at their cost - superb service.

Cheers, F/Fifty

Of laptops and US border searches

Mark Rasch

http://www.prisonplanet.com/articles/march2008/240308_b_laptops.htm

Recently, I was going through an airport with my shoes, coat, jacket, and belt off as well as with my carry-on bag, briefcase, and laptop all separated for easy inspection. I was heading through security at the Washington D.C., Ronald Reagan National Airport in Arlington, Virginia, or "National" as we locals call it. As I passed through the new magnetometer which gently puffed air all over my body - which to me seems to be a cross between a glaucoma test and Marilyn Monroe in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes - a TSA employee absent-mindedly asked if he could "inspect" my laptop computer. While the inspection was cursory, the situation immediately gave me pause: What was in my laptop anyway?

Similar thoughts must have gone through the head of Michael Timothy Arnold on July 17, 2005. He was having a bad day that was about to get much worse.

Arnold arrived at the International Arrivals Building at Los Angeles International Airport after a 20-hour flight from the Philippines. He might have looked like any other US traveler arriving from Manila after what he said was a three-week vacation visiting friends--tired, haggard, and casual. The Customs and Border Patrol agents were a bit suspicious, because they knew the Philippines is a haven for "sex tourism." They were also suspicious because Arnold could not remember the name of the company where he had once worked as a night auditor and appeared "fidgety." They demanded that Arnold power up his laptop, which the agents then examined for child pornography - which they ultimately found.

The Federal District Court rejected the government's argument that a search of a laptop is no different than rifling through luggage during arrivals inspection, and they suppressed the warrantless and essentially "suspicious-less" laptop search as unreasonable. The case was argued before the federal appellate court in October 2007 and a decision is imminent. The salient question: To what extent may customs, border, immigration, or other government officials search, mirror, copy, or analyze the contents of electronic gadgets with neither probable cause nor a warrant?

At the edge of law
It is clear that people traveling into and out of a country have a lower expectation of privacy at the border. Perhaps more accurately, a governmental search at the border is more likely to be considered "reasonable."

The agents get to do things they can't do if, for example, they simply stop you on the street. They can question you, they can rifle through your unmentionables, and even examine documents you are bringing with you. The agents can even disassemble your gas tank, looking for hidden compartments that you could be using to smuggle things. In the Arnold case, the government argued that its search authority at the border is "plenary" or unrestricted, except that to do an invasive body cavity search, it would have to have some kind of suspicion.

But searches of things? Well, they can do whatever they want it would seem.

The customs agents' job is to protect the nation from "anything harmful," to gather intelligence, prevent terrorism, and to enforce all of the laws, including child pornography and copyright laws. The computer is no different from any other "closed container" that the agent may search. Just as the agent needs no probable cause to search your underwear, they need no probable cause to rummage through your laptop. And besides, they are doing it to protect the country and enforce the laws and prevent terrorist attacks. You don't have any privacy rights at the border anyway, so what's the problem?

Same planet, different worlds
So, for example, is a computer the same as a briefcase or suitcase, under the law? I mean, if you don't want your stuff searched, don't bring it with you. You abandon your "expectation of privacy" at the border, right?

The government's position is as frightening as it is naíve. A computer is not the same thing as a briefcase. Nor, for that matter, is an iPod, a thumb drive, or a cell phone. It is both quantitatively and qualitatively different, and that makes all of the difference in this case. It seems that the government and the lower court are speaking past, and not at, each other. The government says, "We can do anything for any reason," and the court says, "No, you need reasonable suspicion to search a laptop."

Indeed, they are both wrong.

The consequences of the government's argument would be that they could, at the border, seize your daughter's iPod and lock her up if they thought the songs were not licensed. They could copy the entire contents of your computer, read your e-mail, medical records, communications with doctors, lawyers, or priests. They could examine deleted files, create a database of your friends and associates, and provide any or all of this information to the CIA, Interpol, the NSA, the FBI, or for that matter, the Iraqi intelligence services. All without probable cause, suspicion, or warrant, because you had the unmitigated gall to cross the border with your laptop.

Encrypting files on the laptop would be of little utility because, if they win their argument in another border search case in Vermont, they could compel you to provide them with the encryption key. The only thing you could do is not take your laptop or wipe it clean before you come back.

The consequences of the defendant's argument are likewise unappealing. If the government could not search computers at the border (or needed reasonable suspicion, which they don't need to search luggage), there is some merit to the argument that the computer will become the medium of choice for transporting contraband (although it's still easier to simply e-mail it to yourself.)

Luggage or laptop?
The government's argument is predicated on the assumption that a laptop is no different from any other container. Yet, that assumption is simply is not true.

Computers contain vast quantities of confidential and private information, communications, and relationships, for which most people would agree should be maintained with a reasonable expectation of privacy, even when they cross the border. While all of this information is entitled to legal protection against unreasonable (e.g. warrantless) searches by the government inside the country, some of it is entitled to even greater protection. Stored electronic communications, privileged materials, trade secrets, financial records, and other information are particularly protected against government intrusion.

While most people do not travel internationally with a copy of every chat they have ever had, or every Facebook friend's picture in their Samsonite, or every picture they have of their boyfriends or girlfriends, they have exactly this information on their laptops. They have their checkbook information, passwords, financial records, medical records, correspondence, records of books purchased, Web sites reviewed, and more. In short, communicative and expressive materials.

In 1958, the State of Alabama required the NAACP to provide it with the names and addresses of all of its members, a requirement that the Supreme Court held violated the expressive and due process rights of the organization. Yet, according to the current government's argument, if this information was contained somewhere on a laptop computer traveling across national borders, the information could be accessed, copied, and entered into a central depository, even absent of any evidence of criminal activity.

Have anyone been to or has any knowledge of the area I believe to the north of Manila called one hundred islands? Any information will be a great help.Hi E,

The information that I am posting is over two years old and may not be timely. We left Manila by bus (Victory Liner) and it took about 5.5 hours to reach Alaminos. From there, we went to Lucap and we stayed at Hundred Islands Resort Hotel. We used the services of a boatman who was to take us island hopping. As you can appreciate, it is not possible to visit a lot of the islands and you have to specify to the guide where you want to visit. The islands which we did visit were Children's Island, Quezon Island, Govenor's Island, Marta Island ( a very pretty small island ). Marcos Island has a blowhole and a vertical shaft of rock, Scout Island and Quirino Island have caves, Cuenco Island has a cave traversing the length of the island. It is possible to stay overnight on some of the main islands.

I did find touring the islands very relaxing. There are a lot of coral reefs and natural beaches to see. You will be astounded by the scenic beauty and you will find your piece of paradise in the park. IMHO it is definitely worth a visit and I would go back.

All the best, wazza.

Hi folks,

I'm in Manila on business but got nothing to do over the long weekend (April 5-7). I've been in Manila a few times, but never had the time or urge to try the local scene, considering I live in LOS.

Might have a go at EDSA complex tonight, and depending what I find there, maybe hop on a bus to AC to spend the weekend there. If anyone is party to that , PM me!

I don't have much info on CP other than my CC always works, yet my brother in law tried all his 10+ cards and none of them worked. We're both in the US etc, but I finally ended up booking his ticket.
On PAL, there's a very easy work-around to the printed confirmation need, and that is to e-mail the confirmation have have your relative print it at any internet café. Obvious. Yes. but it didn't come through as that in an earlier post.

Hello,

I want to travel 10 days arround in the Philippines and I am still looking for Girly bars where I just can take a beer and look a show or dancing girlies.

I dont know the name of such clubs but in Pattaya they would call it a bikini club (but they often wear miniskirts and no bikini under it...) thats what I like.

Legaspie? Laoag? Kalibo?

Andre Cuipers

Close to Pattaya is Cambodia....But the scene is completely different there.

In Philippines you have to ask what kind of bars you like (a bar to meet a kind of freelancers (LA cafe and G point in Manilla) , a bar with a line of girls just standing in a row to be picked out and buy ladiedrinks before you can talk (mostly expat owned and cheep-most in Bilbao what the most call ANgeles city) ,a bar with a few girls dancing or a bar with everytime one girl who does a kind of strip act(thats the local Pinay bar - mostly verry sleezy).Or maybe a noisy disco to meet a thing you dont know what it is.

I dont know your age - but because I am older (51) I kind of hate Thailand because they ask high prices to older people.

What I find a problem in Philippines is that you pay the same money for short time as for long time. You have to ask the girl if she WANTS to go out with you until next morning. But even is she sais yes she can leave you earlier or just give you no sex in the morning(even if you asked for it before paying).

You payed everything in advance (if she is a bar girl) so the only thing you can do is give no tips.

Other problem i have with Philippines (and cambodia) is - if you do like long time and if you take the same girl a few times it feels like being married for 10 years...They start to take care of you...hoping you marry them.

On a first 1 week vissit I would do 1 day Manilla (Malate Pension) , 2 days Sabang(beach)(Captain Grags) , 3 days Bilbao(Angeles City, American hotel)) and last day again Manila close to EDSA(Sogo hotel) to get the plain back.

I fully disagree with others that Downtown Cebu is unsafe.

But dont flash with expensive things and dont think a big mouth will help you there because you are between locals. If you can addapt to them they will start to take care of you as if you are one of them.

For me a no go area is Fuente Circel (too many poor children and dangerous papasans on the streets) and the only Girly bar there is way to expensive - only good for the happy hour drinks (silver dollar).

As good expatsplaces I would go only to Maxilon Avenue(BG, Viking the bars on the northside of the street have the best value).

Save and clean but compared to Bilbao and downtown Cebu a little boaring.

so if you have time over...but be prepared - whole Philippines is infested with dirty old stinkin Jeepneys and the toilets around Manilla are clean but in Cebu often verry verry dirty. Even in malls.

And also the food is different from Thailand and the wine is (like in Cambodia) affordable - so not the 600Bath price but more 3$. And the girls like to drink it with you on the balcony.....(most cannot afford it and like to try it)

Andre

Hi All

I have posted on the Thailand forum about my up coming trip in May, which at the moment includes 2 full weeks in Pattaya, I have been to Thailand on a few occasions and usually do Pattaya for 3-4 days, so I have been thinking of splitting the 2 weeks into 1 week in Pattaya and 1 week in the Philippines, for a few reasons, I like to try somewhere new when ever I can and it is not to far from Thailand, now for my question for Philippine regulars if I come for one week I would like to stay in the one area and not change hotel, so for a potential first time visitor where would be the best place for a week to see some sights and have a good selection of nightlife opportunities where I would be likely to find other like minded mongers.

Possible dates would be May 30 for 7 nights.

Will there be any philippine regulars around those dates?

Thank you

IPM

The other bars stay on the 'safe' side of the laws in this hypocritical country. Going to fully nude bars puts you in more danger than is worth it IMHO, YMMV.

I only know of IloILo, the most eastern bar (of 2) on JM Bassa street has a kind of strip show.

All are in ILoIlo local oriented bars (=sleeze) there.

But the price for the girl (and beer) is rather expensive in all local bars like these. And also most woman are older etc etc (low Q).

I don't know if they just ask higher prices to farang.

But most locals just drink a few redhorses and even fall in sleep so how bad the woman looks they even don't see it. Happely most still wear a little thin thing at the final stage (they return 3 times) to hide something what should not be seen (after pregnant belly).

Nice cities to have a break from all the nice and cheap girls from Bilbao. I mean a few days just drinking beer and look to the real Philippine live. But better take a twice as cheep girl and twice as pretty (and twice as young) when you return to Bilbao. At least if you didn't loose your appatite.

In PI I will never drive a car.

1) they drive like idiots in the big city (one traffic Jam in every city above 200. 000 inhabitants because it is too hot to walk)

2) if you get an accident they will put you in jail until they know who caused the accident (a. Yeah. The one who has money.)

3) you get out of jail if you payed all.

Same counts for all other things that can go wrong (like having a minor).

Start to pay as soon as asked and get as soon and as far as possible away as long as you have the opportunity because it will only get you in more problems if you think you are in your wright.

Maybe that is true. But for sure you will not get it.

As long as you smile they smile. Be carefull as the smiling stops.

So don't drive, avoid minors and all other illigal or unrespectfull things.

Busses are good and cheap!

Everyone thinks of doing this on their first trip but quickly changes their mind after getting here. Traffic is horrendous in the larger cities. Difficult to find your way around. Risk of being extorted for money if you have a collision is very real.

It is possible but not really worth the hassle. Hard to hire a self drive vehicle outside of big cities, vast majority are rented to you WITH a driver who you will have to keep fed & watered wherever you go ;) We own a vehicle but still use trikes & taxi's a lot because its so convenient & each driver is a walking cross between a GPS unit & a concierge.

Take care,

Thanks for the ammo. I'll share with my friend to convince him he's nuts.

I have always hired family friends to drive us around. It costs more, but less hassle. I remember my first trip the only way to get a driver to drive us from Glorietta to Tondo was to LIE to them where we were going. After we got started, we told him the real destination. Didn't get all the way there, but at least to the LRT, then a jeepney then a tricycle. quite an adventure. Never been a big fan of the busses. Got stuck on an un aircon one once after our van broke down.

Over all, getting around in the Phils can be a hassle. Been in about 4 breakdowns and one accident. The police negotiations were interesting. I stayed in the car, but it still was our fault. (even though it wasn't. I was told it was because I was Puti, even I wasn't driving)

I too have never considered driving. It would take me two weeks just to get out of NIAA. LOL

It's been a while since I've been but in Pasay there is Miss Universal which is pretty big on FB Harrison. Up the street is a smaller, local club called Monriz. Down on Taft is a place called Vocano which is also mainly for locals but all have full nude shows.

In Paranaque there are a few, I know of one called Kalesa and many of the ones on Roxas Blvd are also nude. East Asia and Viva Manila are a couple.

In Quezon City, go to Quezon Ave. Mystique has a nice show and I often would go there. They have runways down the middle where the girls will strut nude. I'm drawing a blank on the names of the others--there's one right next to Mystique that begins with a P.

These are only a few that I can think of off the top of my head...

Money changers are crooks here as in most third world countries.
Wanna get ripped off & cry about it, be my guest.

As you get on & off the plane there are legit money exchange facilities in the terminals.
If you stroll over to SM Mall in Angeles there is a legit money exchange facility.
There are plenty of banks in AC where you can get FOREX facilties.
Who comes to another country without money in a bank account?
Just stick your ATM card in an auto teller at SM Mall at withdraw whatever you need, it will be in pesos..

But, when AV says "money changers are crooks" he has written something I disagree with. Most money changers are in business, want to stay in business and want to make money honestly. They can make money because they provide a convenient service.

A wayward changer, or more likely, a thief employee, will soon be discovered. If AV knows of such a rip-off place, it would be a great service if he were to include the details here at ISG.

Same as anywhere, you pay your money and you take your chances.

I am a fan of the International ATM Facility that my Bank offers me, totally free of any charges anywhere in the world and at any ATM.

Safe efficient and I can check online any time also.

Most are legit buisness that offer a better rate than bank.

There are a few that scam tourist.

Just use your common sense.

Don't take offers from touts on the street.

Cheers F/FiftyYep FF, I use Citibank, same deal. As I arrive at the airport in a foreign country I change enough cash for Taxi & small expenses. Online I shuffle money about then use ATM's for small cash & Credit cards for big transactions. Why people are tramping about thiird world red light districts using hole in the wall money changers is quite beyond me..

Never had any problem with Ermita/Malate money changers - just use the walk in establishments and never use the street changers, you are asking for trouble. Always double check your money. They offer competitive rates and you can shop around for the best rate. I've also found that for those living in the Philippines, they are also useful (and offer good rates) for changing from Pesos back to Dollars, pounds or Euro's when you are travelling abroad and need some foreign currency.

Just stick your ATM card in an auto teller at SM Mall at withdraw whatever you need, it will be in pesos..Good luck V AV

Last year while I was working in the Philippines (7 months) I had no choice but to use my ATM card. I would withdraw 20,000P at a time and one time I used the Hyatt Casino behind the Diamond Hotel to withdraw 20,000P and the next time I went to a ATM I got an error message, "hot card". Luckly my bank has a branch in Japan (10 am PI) and I called and they told me that they locked my card out because they thought it was stolen and being used in the casino.

The bank then put a note on my account that I was in the Philippines and I had no more problems.

I use my ATM Card all over the world and bank online too. I tell my bank where I am likely to be going and any limitations I require on my card.
I can adjust the limitations as to my anticipated ''money requirements'' and to the risk I associate with each country.

So far no problems, except Moldova recently, where my bank refuse to allow cards to be used in ATMs as the risk is deemed too great. Even calling them would not lift the automatic blocking :(

As I see it the Risk of having to keep safe and carry large amounts of cash, often in $US, using money changers etc far outweighs the Risk of using my ATM card everywhere I go.

If I lose my card, one call to the bank and the damage is limited.
If I lose the cash, get robbed, swindled etc, there is no way to limit the damage.

Cheers, F/Fifty

No one was criticizing your advice, I was simply disagreeing with the statement "money changers are crooks", which strikes me as an overgeneralizaton since I have used money changers hundreds of times and had only one attempt at a rip off. My post was not meant to irritate you or anyone else, but to point out what I see as misinformation -- so roll your eyes all you want.

Also, I never said I was ripped off.

Since you apparently avoid money changers, I wonder how you've come to have such a negative opinion of all of them.

Thanks Fast Eddie for the extra warning about the guys who approach you on the street or in the malls.

I'm planning a trip over there sometime this year, I was wondering since the dollar is tanking faster than the titanic, has anyone who recently traveled over there notice a drop in the guys going over there and the prices higher or about the same as the girls become desperate since less customers means lower prices supply and demand sort of thing.

will be booking 90 days advance.hi ba, i mean this with no disrespect but you dont give enough info to warrant more then a very general answer.

some people prefer to use travel agents for convenience & chasing prices. some of us prefer to book direct for speed & efficiency. as to what air carrier to choose, it depends on where you are flying from.

coming back & forth to australia i use singapore airlines for very competitive rates & very nice standard of service. qantas flys a direct manila to sydney service but is always more expensive & service is not quite as nice as sa. air asia is technically cheaper but involves more stuffing around with connections. standard of service is budget. tiger is available to limited areas of australia, simillar to aa.

Well, you are starting to sound like someone else on this site who comes to dramatic conclusions based on his own imagination -- one of which is to insist that I'm trolling. Also, shall I assume you have many examples of me making personal insults? You seem to take that as a matter of fact.

I've got more pictures posted at ISG than you have posts and probably twice as many field reports. I've never asked for anything back except for people to follow the rules of the ISG board and (hopefully) follow the accepted rules of discussion and debate when it comes to disagreements.

I've enjoyed your sarcastic humour on many occasions (even when I was the target) and even said so just a few days ago right here on this thread. So, to say I don't have a sense of humor is a bit disingenuous. I've only challenged you after you obviously and clearly insulted me for the third time.

Starting sometime in May I will be working in Macau for about 2 months. I am looking into spending some weekends in AC. With my work I am never sure in advance when I will have time off.

Any suggestion for getting a cheaper fare without booking 6 weeks in advance? Can I just buy a ticket at the airport the day of my trip? Should I go through an agent? Have someone in PI buy the ticket for me?

Exit Customs Hall, in Airport Entrance, turn left, there are a couple of banks, money changer and 2 or 3 ATM's.

Alternatively buy some Pesos at your Departure Airport.

Of course I'm still here in AC. I'm more than likely going to be going to Biliran Island the end of next month. If anyone wants join and or meet let me know. If just myself I will probably do it the laziest way possible. But if somebody wants to join I might get a little adventurous. I lived there in Biliran for a year recently. Right now I'm thinking of going via Clark to Cebu then ferry to Naval, Biliran. This would also benifit anyone wanting to see Leyte and or Cebu. I had a CB sweety named Sheena invite me to Naval, Biliran. At the time (I was in Ormoc) I had no idea where she was. Duh.

If I had it all to do again, I would have walked out of my hotel and gotten on the bus. Maybe 4/5 hours from Ormoc to Naval, but looks like a trip worth doing. I'd love to do Tacloban too. Wow, too many locations, too many women.

Looking forward to a FR!

check to see if TA give you the option of purchasing a 'flexi' ticket. It will be slightly more expensive than the non-changeable supersaver but should still work out cheaper than buying just prior to departure

The easiest and safest way to do it -IMHO

Exit Airport, bear left and cros road to Black/White sign - AIRPORT TAXI

See the guy there, tell him where you are going, agree price (I paid 350 to Burgos Area). Go into kiosk, pay and get receipt.

Get into nice new Aircon MPV (alone, no sharing) watch them load your baggage then enjoy the ride to your hotel.

Was I ripped off at 350 PHP (less than $9) for the 30 min ride through the awful traffic - I dont think so. I tipped the driver a further 100 as I was entirely satisfied with the service given.

There may be other ways or ideas, but it worked for me and I will be doing it that way every time from now on.

Heading to Manila for a few weeks shortly. Been to Bangkok a few times and want to experience a different country for comparison.

For my first week I plan to stay in a hotel on or near Burgos St. to take in all the action there. Then for the 2nd week I'll switch to a hotel close to EDSA. I'll keep my 3rd week open for now. Is this a reasonable plan, or is it better just to choose one hotel and take a taxi everywhere that's not within walking distance?

Anyone know of hotels other than the City Garden that have both in-room internet and room safe? From my searching most have one or the other but not both.

Are the bars along Roxas Blvd. within walking distance of the EDSA complex? LA Cafe? Is it safe to walk between these mongering hubs? I cannot find a map of Makati/Pasay that would indicate how far each of these areas are from each other.

Is there a pharmacy in Manila that sells Cialis without a prescription? If not, is there a clinic that gives out prescriptions?

Sim cards are available in all the shopping malls, correct?

Thanks for your help,

MC.

That's a long time to be in Manila. If you are going to be in the Burgos St. area, just to let you know the bar fine is 3000 and the girls expect 3000 also so that's pretty expensive. However two MP's, Palacio Don Pedro and Phoenix are close by which will set you back around 1500 for the girl and 1500 for the room or a little more depending on time of day. I don't think the girls around Burgos are much better looking than the girls at Edsa. The bar fine at Edsa is 1500 and the girls ask for 2500 but you can get most down to 2000 if not a little lower.

As for hotels, it just depends what you want to do during day. Traffic can be pretty bad in Manila. If you stay around Burgos St, then you are close to the Greenbelt and Glorietta malls. If you stay at City Garden, you are close to Robinson's. I usually use www.asiahotels.com or www.asiarooms.com to check for amenities. What is your budget?

Burgos area is definitely safe to walk around at night and as long as you are cautious, its fairly safe to walk from LA Cafe to your hotel close by. I usually stay at the Pan Pacific and it's not a long walk.

I'm pretty sure you can get cialis or viagra without a prescription and if not, there are always guys trying to sell it on the street. Can't be sure if they are real or not though. Also not sure about safety so I would recommend the pharmacy. You can get a sim card at 7/11 as soon as you land.

Also have you considered Angeles City? I didn't think I was going to enjoy it but it was really fun because I was with a bunch of guys. The bar fines there are around 1300 and if you give the girl 500 in the morning, she'll be happy. This is for LT and most girls will stay with you the next day until they have to go to work. I think that's a great bargain compared to BKK. The girls are more GFE than PSE like BKK.

Have fun!!!

Is currently running a P-zero special to many destinations. You still pay the taxes / surcharges, but the price is cut in half. Smoke 'em while you got 'em.

MC.Here is a decent map of manila:

http://www.bfhomes.net/metro_manila_map.htm

Notice where the Taft Ave and Un Ave intersect is roughly the LA Cafe area. In my opinion this area is very dirty and run down. While the mongering at LA cafe is out of this world, that part of town is not very good to stay in.

My opinion i would stay in Makati only. EDSA and Burgos are only 10-15 mins by taxi and La Cafe is not much more. The bars on Roxas Blvd for the most part are a waste of time. There is nothing there that you cant get for half the price at Burgos, LA cafe or EDSA. Best bang for the buck is EDSA. A good hotel in Makati is Somerset Salcedo. This is an apartment style hotel with a 4 star rating and daily maid service. At any rate i would not stay near Roxas/EDSA, think the dirtiest place in the world and that is what the area around there is like.

Nice map thanks very useful. Would also comment (as I have and other have) that if you go to LA Cafe and get a taxi late and night to Burgos etc, beware of police scams - see earlier posts. I got caught in one, it was OK once driver told them I knew diplomats but you are warned MC to be careful.

See earlier reports for useful advice on how to avoid this problem.

Was in Ermita late March/early April and stayed at City State Towers about 2 blocks from LA Cafe. Price was about 1,900 a night for superior room with cable, AC, large bathroom, frig and phone. Clean, good security and no complaints.

Bus leaves there for trips to Puerto Galera at 8:00 a.m. daily. Takes you to Batangas then from Batangas by boat to Puerto Galera. Bus and boat prices are very reasonable. You but the bus ticket right there in the lobby of City State.
l
Upon returning to Manila, again at City State. No complaints again. Expect to be in MNL again next month and will again stay there.

PS: Free breakfast until 10:00 a.m.

I need to head to Garfields when I first get in to see some old ex-pat friends of mine but if anyone is in town and wants to go out to have a few when I am in town send me a PM and we can set something up, otherwise I will probally be found in Roadhouse or Champagne most of the time.

Same goes for Manila will be there 11-14th, staying at the Hyatt Hotel and Casino in Malate/ Ermita area if anyone wants to go throw down a few drinks.

Hmmm, interesting theory. What do you do to combat jet lag? I tend to take longer holidays, but that is not always possible for me -- and probably for a lot of people reading this.

The first time I visited Asia was courtesy of a US Naval vessel. Not much jet lag on that trip.

Hmmm, interesting theory. What do you do to combat jet lag?Gentlemen: My first trip to PI from California in 2001 had terrible jet lag that took a week to get aclimated. I have found following to be helpful.

1) stay up late or do not sleep much in the days before your flight. This seems to prime my pump for the time change.

2) get a doc or friend (women tend to use them) some sleeping pills and use them during the flight to to into "suspended animation". It makes the 12 hour flight into a 4 hour flight

3) when you arrive try to adapt to the local time, meaning go to sleep and rise at your normal times. Use sleeping pills if you have to. During my first visits I slept during the day and I think it made my jet lag worse.

4) best cure is find a babe and bonk yourself silly, then go to sleep.

There are several methods and different strokes for different folks, however this works for me:

When I board the plane I set my watch to the time of destination. This puts me psychologically 'on track' and then if I do have a sleep, I wake up, look at my watch and I am 'in the new time' with no reference to actual time in my head. A little 'in flight' alcohol helps, but never to excess otherwise I feel totally wrecked on arrival.
As for the physical aspects, especially if travelling to Phils on vacation, I usually arrive and take a short nap, about 1-2 hours works. The I go out, find a girl and go back to bed, regardless of the time of day.
If it is a business trip I still try to do the same, but it is not always possible.

Guys, need some assistance and advice. Here's my predicament..... I'm in Makati at the moment, and usually have no problem picking up something for the evening at EDSA and taking back to the hotel...........but problem is the wife came with me this time so not an option :(
I can get out for a few hours in the evening so am looking for somewhere I can get a girl for short time and do the business. Options might be something like they have in Jakarta or Bangkok (fishbowl-type arrangement) or maybe can get some entertainment at EDSA then find a short-time room somewhere......... any advice on places nearby ? I'm here til Tue, so time is tight......... cheers for assistance........... Maaars

pimpPimp,

To be honest there has not been much, if any, price change since 2000-ish. If you were just there a couple of years ago then what you were paying then remains the same today. Bar fines vary from bar to bar dependant on what town, and what part of town, you are in as well as by the type of place.

This web site can give you an idea of some of the differnt going rates for different places in AC and Manila:

http://tomrich.sakura.ne.jp/nightspotmalate.html

Tips will vary from girl to girl as well. It is always best to discuss these things up front in my opnion you so don't end up having an issue the next morning when you have a hangover. For me a P500-P1000 tip is the norm depending on her performance and I have almost never had complaints. I also throw in breakfast and taxi/trike fare home for them the next morning.

Hope that helps.

I would also throw in that several times on your flight get up and walk around. Its a 747-400 for Christs sake you could throw a football game in one of those things lol. Usually in the back there is a very good sized "cargo" or waiting area where people just hang out, stretch, run in place, even push ups or some such. Just try to stay active. IMHO NOT doing this will fuck you up more than anything else. I mean, not moving for 20 hours will fuck you up. STAY ACTIVE on your flight. Keep the blood moving. Go for a 10 minute walk every few hours that youre awake.

Agreed, then chat up the Stewardesses at the back, keeps the blood moving in other places too.

Admittedly in many years of flying I have only ever scored 2 mobile numbers, and they were both Emirates girls living in Dubai :) and only one was a result. Pity she was some Scottish Bird who also had a boyfriend in Trinidad so it was a one-off ;)

G'day FF. I have good first hand knowledge of Dipolog. Its not a mongering destination. Sex tourists don't come here. There are some local bars/disco's but you will be the only foreigner & feel like you landed on Mars or something.. :) There are spinners here for the taking but more hassle than traditional mongering cities. There are some hotels in the city itself & at the nearby beach resort of Dakak. (http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g659927-d673722-Reviews-Dakak_Park_Beach_Resort-Dipolog_Mindanao.html)

Thanks for the feedback guys, F/FiftyThere are NO taxis. You can hire a brand new 4WD utility toyota + driver from Zanorte Industries or SAGA, both on the Dipolog - Galas road as you head into town. You will need to visit in person & arrange a day ahead. You're gonna look like a Colombian drug lord being driven around in one of these... :D
A much cheaper & may I say 'lower profile' transport can easily be had by visiting the 'Land Transport Terminal' on Quezon Ave. Vehicle will be older but serviceable with air-con + local driver.

You just missed two Fiesta's in the last week... tons of totti around..

1. I have never had my baggage checked either entering or departing the
Philippines. Notwithstanding that fact, transporting the vitamin V would appear to be perfectly legal however, you would probably want to have the appropriate paperwork with you to back it up.

2. Call a travel agent and ask them to check with a consolidator for pricing. For example, last trip Northwest wanted $1,700.00 from Chicago and that was the cheapest on her screen which was the same as I was seeing with Travelocity and Orbitz. She called the consolidator and got a price of $1,220.00 for the same flight from Northwest.

I went in and out of Manila 3 times; they never checked my bags.
I was afraid last time because they had a rather small limit of how much Filipino cash you can take in or out. I think I was over by about 700 pesos or something. I thought about spending it on the plane before entering, but I took my chance and didn't have a problem.

In some places many touts will show and ask you if you want to buy Viagra or Cialis; so I wouldn't be worried about it even if they found it.

Getting to and from Puerta Galera is a bit difficult if you have a fixed schedule. You need to drive or bus two and a half hours through bad traffic to Batangas city then take a morning ferry (so loose first night). There is a good Day’s Inn near SM Mall there. Alternatively you need to leave Manila about 3:30 am (in which case good traffic).

There are passenger ferries directly to Sabang. I think it is a 2 hour crossing on large bankas, which are fine in good weather but you don’t want to be on one when the rain or wind picks up. There are also car ferries that go to 1) a nearby (5 miles? ) or 2) not so nearby (25 miles on bad roads through the forest) towns. These don’t all run every day, and in bad weather they too get canceled.

I would not go Puerto Galera unless you have some leeway if you get stuck due to weather. If you have only two nights Subic might be a better option. With the new road from NLEX to Subic Bay Freeport you can drive/bus/taxi in two and a half hours from Manila, and less than an hour from Angeles. Then at night take a trike to check out Barrio Barretto and Subic City, which can be wild, even more wild west than Angeles. The diving is also quite good in Subic.

Also, while Angeles is sex heaven, after a few days I find it quite booring. I would spend more time in Manila, Cebu or Subic, where there is also lots otherwise to do, and less in Angeles.

As for passing through Manila Airport (NAIA), I have never been searched coming in. If you are western it is highly unlikely. The limit on taking pesos out of the country is quite low, I think P10, 000 equal to about US$200. I have only ever been hassled leaving the country when I had about PSP20, 000 or US$400 in my pocket. When you leave, everything is x-rayed. I have seen people stopped for sea shells and knives, that is about it. You will be physically searched before boarding so don’t have anything in your pockets you don’t want shown to the world. Any extra pesos, pills or toys should be inside your checked luggage (best) or your carry on (second best) and there should be no problem

Bob Bowie, when you said that US customs when through your pictures, what exactly did they do? Go through your camera? Your computer? What did the find and do?

Bus leaves every morning for Puerto Galera from CityState Hotel in Ermita. Sunday mornings are recommended due to significantly less congestion on the road, much of which is under construction/repair. Price is around 500 pesos. The bus is air conditioned and comfy.

The bus takes you to Batangas docks and you choose your boat (banca) as per where you are going on Mindoro. Cost as I recall for banca is about 200 pesos but at the ferry docs, they will hit you for anothers 200 peso departure fee. Its all very cheap to get there from Manila. If you are going to Puerto Galera for beach time, stay away from Sabang as the beach is pretty much non-existent. For beaches, go to the White Beach side of Mindoro. Most poontang will be found in Sabang though but beware of the shabu problem with the girls in the clubs in Sabang. Both times I was in Puerto Galera, I brought my own girl from Manila. Given the quality (or lack thereof) of the girls in Sabang, my better judgment in brining a girl from Manila benefited me.

Both times, I paid the girl nothing to accompany me. A couple of bikinis and sarongs and some cheap costume jewelry from the beach stores plus transportation and hotel was all that I paid. Total for beach wear and necklaces, etc. was under 1,000 pesos. Both girls I took saw the opportunity to go to PG as an all inclusive week long vacation and they snapped at that opportunity like hungry salmon. Cost of room at White Beach Resort was about $33.00 USD a night. The hotel was clean, safe and perpendicular to the beach with plenty of food and drink places all within a short walk. All rooms have air and cable TV.

I'll be there 4 August. The easy and economical way for me to do it is
stay the first night at the Swagman in Manila. They will pick you up at the airport for free. The rooms aren't great, but they don't cost much compared to what's in the area and there aren't any problems bringing girls in. When there it's not too far to get walk to the LA Cafe and get a girl there.

The next day I'll catch the fly by bus from the same hotel, to Angeles for 500 Pesos. That's an easy way to Angeles and doesn't cost much, plus you can have a night at the LA cafe or other bars in the area.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. federal agents have been given new powers to seize travelers' laptops and other electronic devices at the border and hold then for unspecified periods the Washington Post reported on Friday.

Under recently disclosed Department of Homeland Security policies, such seizures may be carried out without suspicion of wrongdoing, the newspaper said, quoting policies issued on July 16 by two DHS agencies.

Agents are empowered to share the contents of seized computers with other agencies and private entities for data decryption and other reasons, the newspaper said.

DHS officials said the policies applied to anyone entering the country, including U.S. citizens, and were needed to prevent terrorism.

The measures have long been in place but were only disclosed in July, under pressure from civil liberties and business travel groups acting on reports that increasing numbers of international travelers had had their laptops, cellphones and other digital devices removed and examined.

The policies cover hard drives, flash drives, cell phones, iPods, pagers, beepers, and video and audio tapes -- as well as books, pamphlets and other written materials, the report said.

The policies require federal agents to take measures to protect business information and attorney-client privileged material. They stipulate that any copies of the data must be destroyed when a review is completed and no probable cause exists to keep the information.

I just took the Fly By Bus to AC today. They charge 600 pesos now.
I asked about it, and they said they increased the price as of 1Aug.

The best thing to do is e mail all your pictures to your e mail and you can download later into your computer.
This will avoid unnecessary hardships if your laptop is seized.

Hi All

Going to be in Angeles from Aug 15 to Aug 24th, experienced friend recommended Tiger Hotel on Narciso St, using the pickup service from the airport (Clark not Manila).

Any comments on this hotel and any recommendations for a first timer.
First post here, in the past have posted reports on Dhaka Bangladesh for a while with lots of pics, but thats history.

Lots of help from this site when I started going to thailand.

Anyone there during that time, care to meet up for a drink.

I hear Tiger is fine, just doesn't have a pool. You know you can use the pool at the Orchid if you pay around 500 pesos (should be consumable). Sounds like a lot, but if you have lunch and hang and have some beers it will work out ok.

If after a few days you feel burnt out on Fields, move up to Sunset Gardens or Hotel Hana and spend time at the Perimeter Bars.

Hello everyone. I've been considering a trip to the Philippines for some time now and have been to Thailand many times. I'm wondering if it is worth making the switch or should I just keep going to Thailand.

I posted a picture and ad on craig's list and am getting all kinds of emails from women there. Looks promising.

I'm sure comparisons have been posted before, but after going to Thailand over the years I realize things change and I'm looking for recent information.

Any suggestions on the best destination?

I've done the same thing as you for a long time. I only went to Thailand.
I guess if I had only one choice, it would be Thailand. But, I have been to to Angeles a couple times now and I have fun here too. I also had some fun in Manila and Cebu.

Just read the forum and you will see where to go.

Try AC, just don't expect it to be the same. I think you will like the differences except the food and the lack of things to do in the daytime. The amount of girls with little experience should be a welcome change.

as has been discussed on in the chat section, having strangers meet you at the airport is not recommended -- but that discussion was more on how to avoid having a woman own you.

firewalker thinks this net info is authentic, and i have no reason to doubt him.

it certainly sounds possible, but at the same time i would think rogue cops would avoid the kind of glaring attention an airport scam would entail. obviously there would be immigration, and who knows what other authorities involved -- it's well known (from hollywood movies :-)....) that law enforcement and military types are territorial. they would have to have some pretty gigantic balls to be pissing in someone else's territory. or maybe just willing to share the proceeds.

regardless, fellow isgers, when you hear this kind of story, please try to get the details. if a guy is actually meeting a woman at the airport, then he surely has email / phone contact info and some pictures of the gal.

not long ago someone posted the url of a web site of a known scammer. this kind of info needs to be shared.

Remember, having proof means nothing in the Phils.

Sorry, I can't remember where I read about this. It wasn't a news story because the guy paid a heft bribe, but it had similarities to other scam arrests and sounded legit.

Ok, I know everyone has heard this time and time again but need your help plz. I am going to Phils in October on or about the 10th or the 17th. I have been on this board for the past year now and never made a comment (sry), I was just gathering information left and right however today I came into a problem where (I am drinking) I looked at the map trying to get a hotel but the Hyatt is to far from the Manila and Oxford Suites is just about in Manila. Need to get a better understanding as to where I should stay that is close to the action however the last thing I need to do is get on a bus/taxi/plane to the hotel. keep in mind that I have been drinking (still) and I just can't figure this out, am I just stupid or am I missing something here?

This will be my first trip to Phils, going there on the above dates for a couple of days, then heading onto cavite to see a girl I met online for the last 8 months, then I am off to boracay for a couple of days, not sure of the dates yet but I heard the beach kicks ass.

I didn't book anything yet at all, just need some info. plz. And any good hotels in Cavite would be great too..

Thanks!

So, if it is a reliable Nokia and you have the phone jack, try that. At the worst you have to buy new battery and sim card, usually the sim card expires after 6 months of nonuse.

I thought Philippine sim card was for a year. -- if you don't recarge it. I've had the same phone number (s) for about three years.

I don't want to be dick, but could you please try to post accurate info here.
You might say, "I'm not sure, but I think.....blah, blah...)

Lastly, I don't know what space-age country you're coming from, but in the last year I've been to USA, Japan, Australia, Phillipines, Honky Kong. People have to recharge their phone batteries in all these places. Common sense says that a dead phone, means a dead battery which has an easy solution. Am I missing something here????

NOTE: be aware of current when you recharge your phone....playing with the wrong electricity on the wrong equipment can reall fk things up.

Nevertheless, a similar topic has been discussed in the AC thread. Please do some reading and then followup if you have specific questions.

Thanks for your reply but as this will be my first visit I do need to see Angeles City, just wondered how many days I should stay there, I am a newbie to The Philippines but have been to Thailand 17 times in 7 years.Hi Jimmy,

It depends on what else you want to do while there and how you will be getting around. In two weeks you can see a lot. Besides mongering what else do you like (especially for longer stays it is good to pursue other interests with or without company) Will you be driving or driver/taxi. Do you dive? Trek? Are you looking for resorts?

I would probably not stay in Oxford in Makati. In fact I would not stay in Makati at all unless I had to be there for other reasons like business. P. Burgos in Makati is certainly worth an evening the girls are high quality but the prices are high too. It does get boring after a short while and you need more variety.

The major mongering sites in Metro Manila are, in no particular order: 1) Makati, 2) Quezon City 3) Paranque, 4) Roxas Blvd, 5) Ermita, 6) Malate, 7) Edsa Entertainment Complex. And the bar in most any 5-star hotel. Did I miss any? If you have the time you will want to visit all and you can do more than one in a single night. For some you may really need a guide. Staying downtown is probably the most central for these (Paranque, Roxas Blvd, Ermita Malate and Edsa Entertainment are all downtown). After 9pm traffic is not bad and you can easily and cheaply cab to the others. I am told that the most beautiful, and expensive are in Quezon City, but I have not checked this out. There are also beautiful and expensive at the theaters on Roxas Blvd.

I personally would stay close to LA Café in Ermeta. LA is the Mecca of mongering in the Philippines (or maybe the Medina and Angeles is Mecca) and open 24 hours. It is also fun with pool tables and decent bands at night. (Burgos is just [mostly board] dancing girls). The girls range from hot to homely, with a few stunners. And all are cheap. Around it also are lots of other bars with bands and discos. It is more seedy than Burgos (stop laughing), but more of an adventure. Nearby are the Hyatt and Manila Hotels, if you are looking for 5 Star, and lots of 3-star and below. There are also restaurants, museums, Ocean Park, golf, Intermoros (old city) nearby to explore with your new friend (s).

In two week's time you can easily add stays in Subic (girls/diving), Baguio (trekking), Porto Galera (girls/diving), Cebu (girls/diving/resorts/historic), Vegan (historic). You could also do a circuit, like Manila- Subic- Bagio- Angeles- Cebu- Manila. I think there are flights from Angeles to Cebu. Though maybe that is too much for two weeks, maybe skip Baguio and maybe Cebu. If you want culture add Vegan.

I think it all depend on you some like AC and stay for week ,I think you should go to manila first and then go to AC there are not much to do here except p4p and most people get bored in just 2 days .

I think you will like Thailand much better and I know I do just much more to do in thailand than in PI but I think you should give it a try for yourself.

What is the longevity of a SIM card if you do not reload it? I thought it was one year.

I was rude to Mr. Hawaii earlier, but after some thought I realized that I usually visit the Philippines twice a year. Maybe I'm the one who's got it wrong.

BTW, I always buy load cards to take back with me, because I can use them to reload when I return. It's kind of exciting to be dialing up contacts while waiting for my baggage to come out.

Sorry Hawaii for busting your balls.

I've been in a lot of different countries and never understood the need for a cell phone. Always travel with my laptop. But this upcomming first visit to Manila has me rethinking things. I'm of the older generation that has never texted...but I know it's popular in the Phils. So I guess I should buy a cheap one in the mall, buy a card, and create my address book of the DIA gals. Question: after my two weeks in the Phils, I have two weeks in Indonesia. Will I be able to use the phone in Indo? With a different card? thanks

If you have time before your trip, I would advise you to go on-line to a auction site and buy a cell phone prior to your trip. First, you will not get caught up in a sales pitch from a cute sales girl and end up buying more phone then you need and second, it is cheaper then buying here in the Philippines. If you want to use your cell worldwide buy a Quad or Tri band, unlocked. If you are interested PM me and I will help you out. I just brought two new V3i, 3G Razors for 1/3 the price of any cell phone store/booth that I have been in the Philippines. Then, when you arrive go to any 7-11 or Mini-Stop and buy a sim for 45P.

I paid about 20 usd for a used cell phone last year. I have used it on 2 tips now with no problem.

If I can not answer a girls text message to me in a couple of words or less, I just call them. You can say a lot to her in under 1 minute and save a lot of time trying to text.

Nothing worse then responding to text to a girl, and in the middle of your typing you get another text from her saying "why are you not answering me, are u mad at me?

I still use the phone here at home in the USA as an alarm clock

What is the longevity of a SIM card if you do not reload it? I thought it was one year.\X
I just purchased a new sim card and reading the fine print from Globe, the sim will expire one year from purchase if not used, two months from expiration date if activated and no prepaid minutes are loaded, and four months from expiration date if no prepaid minutes are loaded. Also, it states that you can roam to over 100 counties with a prepaid sim if you go to Globe and have them set the sim for roaming.

SIMs aren't expensive, but I'd hate to have to transfer my phone number list to a new card.

I have used a SIM card for several years, only reloading during my twice a year visits. If you continue to reload, then I don't think there is an "expiration date". Robbaf, does your card have a specific "exp" date? I'm still confused!

The load cards tend to have an exp. date a year into the future, so I always buy one or two before I leave. That way I can reload upon arrival. Once you add the load, I believe it will expire within six months. Since I visit only once or twice a year, that means any load at departure is lost.

Last visit I bought a NEW phone in Philippines for only 1500. I think I bought a used phone for 1000 about four years ago. Money well spent.

My Globe SIM expires end of ths month according to the package unless I reload. As SIMs are so cheap am not all that bothered and in fact sometimes prefer as I then dont get pesky unwanted calls on my return. But it can be a pain transfering numbers I agree

But I think X you are correct, as long as you load the sim with prepaid minutes, it will stay active, but you do lose your load if it is not comsumed within 60 days of loading.

I retire in October and arrive in Manila the first week of November. The RP is my first stop in checking out countries as a potential places to settle. I know where I'm going to visit (Cebu, Davao, AC / Subic, Bacolod, CDO, Baguio are the main ones) but am asking advice as to when. I don't want to be competing for rooms, flights, ferries when everyone else is. Or competing for girls, though from what I've seen there are enough to go around.

If there was no such thing as peak season, I'd plan my travels to alternate towns with active P4P scenes and those that don't and minimize air / bus / ferry costs.

I've read that Dec - Jan is peak for foreign tourists, and March to May is peak for locals as they travel on summer vacation.

So, what are the actual peak travel times? Is one better off in larger or smaller towns at those times. How necessary are hotel / pensione reservations? My preferred travel habit is to make a reservation for the first night or two then check around for a better place for the rest of my stay. Is that going to work during the peak times?

Thanks.

Thanks Robb

But I dont want to save to the phone as too many prying eyes when I have it switched on/left unattended .....;) Also I lend the phone to friends who may ask why I have so many numbers (theya re non P4P friends and would not undestand).

Your "preferred" travel strategy is sound, and that's what I do. Your questions are also great since if you don't have a reservation at a peak time, you might spend the whole day looking for a place. I did that once in Pattaya, Thailand just before New Year. Duh.

Unfortunately, I don't have any answers other than those that are obvious. PI is a Christian country, people travel around Easter and Christmas/NY. Holiday traffic will include the overseas Filipinos (balikbayan) traveling in/out and you can expect more strain on airline/hotel services.

A good start would be to search the Internet for national holidays, and then also search for local festivals.

That being said, I was in Tagbilaran, Bohol for a recent July festival and got rooms, air in, ferry out on short notice with no problem.

I found the street fireworks chaos of New Year Eve a bit scary. I think Davao has a tight ban on this, good place to head on New Year Eve. New Year is a family thing, so have a date set up in advance.

Have fun,

X

I once got a call within ten minutes of reloading at the MNL airport -- from a lady I hadn't seen in six months. When I had first met her, she was a very hot EDSA go-go girl, but I knew she had retired on the fiance-visa plan to her hometown in the Visayans.

I assumed she was there and gave her a call when I got to (city in Visayans), but damn if she wasn't in Mnl....doing who knows what. Fortunately, she flew back within a few days and I was able to enjoy her charms one last time.

I kept her phone number in my phone for a while hoping she'd given the phone to her younger sis, but no such luck.

Not all of them are pesky and unwanted.

Hi,

I will be travelling to the Phils for a two week vacation. My PAL flight arrives Oct. 25th. I plan on spending two nights in Manila, then maybe Sabang for three nights (hopefully taking a honey) back to Manila for two nights, then Cebu for a week from Nov. 1-7th. Back to Manila for two nights and leaving Manila late Nov. 10th.

Anyway, if anyone will be around and wants to have a drink, that'd be great! I'm a first-timer to the Phils. Been to Thailand five times, Vietnam, Malaysia, Cambodia. But never the Phils.

Let me know if you will be around and I'l buy the first round. Would love to get more "inside Phils" information once I arrive.

Take care. Looking forward to meeting up with some of you.

I agree WR, that is why I always use two cell phones. One is strictly P4P/Chat girls and one is a true cell with people who I want, need to talk too. When I am with a lady, the other cell is turned off and my main cell is on the table. I also have a third cell, I780 Samsung, for WIFI/GPRS and work, but I use Smart and that way I can pass-a-load for Globe and Smart.

I'm probably under the limit, but I still suggest regular travelers to PI start making inquiries and / or complaints.

Thanks for the heads up Robbaf.

It's true that PAL has started to do this. However, I have a Gold Mabuhay mileage card and whenever they ask to weigh my stuff I totally ignore them and tell them I have a gold card and allowed the extra weight. I have no idea if this is true, but it's worked every time so far.

You can be over weight allowance if you have laptop. Every flight I was on last month after they weighed asked "you have laptop?" I say yes, and they let me through.

I had Silk Air do the same to me in August.

They were weighing both bags. My carry on was fine but the checked bag was 7 kilos over.

I just took so long trying to decide what to move from one to the other they told me not to worry and let it through.

They did also ask the laptop question.

I normally put my SIM on rome when I depart the PI, then every other month or so I add $1 to it through Chikka. Chikka is a good tool to provide someone a load in the PI while your not there. It's keep my SIM alive for over 5 years now by doing that.

Since now I'm less than two weeks from arriving, I thought I'd post again.

I'll be arriving early on Saturday, Oct. 25th. Staying at City State Towers. Anyone want to hit LA Cafe that night? I'll be in Manila a couple of nights. Then may go to Puerta Galera. Back to Manila for a couple of nights. Then a week in Cebu. With the final two nights in Manila. All subject to some flexibility.

I may do the three days in Angeles instead of Puerto G. Not sure yet.

Hit me up with a PM or post here if you are interested in hanging out.

I'll be flying in from SFO.

I stayed at the Cherry Blossom Hotel back in early 2007 and it was a decent hotel. I just tried to book them again online for my February trip and they want way too much personal info, like copy of passport, copy of credit card and more. There's no way I'm giving that much info! I booked them online without giving them this info in 2007. What gives? New management? Is the quality of the hotel still fairly decent? Is there a better hotel close to LA Cafe that won't ask for too much info when booking online? Thanks for the help guys!

Cathay Pacific is a good airline.

They have 5 flights a day from HKG to Manila, so the connection is not going to be a long wait.

The air fare is about 1200 USD round trip from JFK, with a stop over in HKG .

PAL has a direct flight from SFO to Manila.

The service sucks so bad never will take them again, but they are cheaper than Cathay.
