Once you visit an apartment (which they seem to be shared by several girls according to my online research) are they actually flexible to let you choose not the one you originally picked what another one you fancy more instead?. Here it is my long overdue modest contribution.

The Shadow is quite right that vkontakte is more of a normal social networking site, that is girls (and guys) on there mostly have profiles just to network with their existing friends. That said, I have met TONS of girls through vkontakte with some success in meeting them and then romance. You will need Russian, and 95% of girls on there are not looking for sponsors or anything, but it has more profiles per location than any other site. So if you have language skills it can be a good way to find normal girls (freebies), but other than that it's no good.

Who do you want making the rules? You or her?
There is no "supposed to", there is only your mutual expectations and negotiations.
This may be a first time for her also, or at least every deal may be somewhat different.
So you need to establish the rules based on your expectations and requirements.

However, when you edit your post, this filter is not working. So, enter the Cyrillic text into your post, copy the text of your post before you submit it. Immediately after the post has been submitted, edit your post, delete what you just posted and then paste the original text back in to the edit window. Submit the edit and you should see your original text.

Probably not really news to anyone here, but I thought I would just report a recent experience with Mamba.
I recently reactivated my profile, having had a longish fallow period of EE travel.
Naturally, I had to upgrade to VIP in order to have any reasonable search facility.
But then I found I was 52, 000+ on the list of men."Women have trouble finding your profile" was a repeated warning.

So today I clicked one of the "raise your profile" options. Costs $1. The difference is huge!
First, it bumps me to the very top of the list, then I start to get all kinds of "views" and messages from girls, some of whom would not have shown up on my searches, but are highly desirable.

And also, as the hours tick by, my profile sinks deeper and deeper down the list.

Of course, whether you need visibility depends on what you are looking for, and how open you are to variation on your criteria.
Something to keep in mind is that many girls profiles are not up front about what they are looking for (surprise!).

I have been playing around on this site a bit and it looks like it might be a good place to meet foreign girls in western cities.

I was curious about this one I must admit, so I put 100 rubles on her phone (about 4$). Afterwards, I communicated with her on Mamba, and she was outraged. She wanted at least 1000 rubles (30$). In Russia. 100 rubles buys you a lot of SMS, bye the way.
2. Variation on previous, this time with a girl who has drop dead gorgeous pics (obvious red flag, but what the hell, maybe, just maybe, she's real, right?). This one's story is: "I'd love to meet you, but I'm a student and in Moscow but in 3 days I can meet you in stpb. I have run out of money on my phone would you please put 3000 rubles (about 100$) on my phone as a birthday present?" After I say no, I'll only give her money at the meeting, I expect her to drop the conversation, but much to my surprise, she continues to send me messages,"Don't you want to meet," "Don't you want to give me a birthday present," and finally, after I say again "money only in stpb," she writes "send me 3000 are now!" (her exclamation points). Addendum: this girl just wrote me again! This time stating she won't have any money on phone to contact me when she arrives in stpb. Please send 3000.
3. Another new one is more a pseudo scam. There seem to be an increasing number of profiles that advertise virtual sex. However, one girl I was negotiating with did not mention virtual sex until well into the conversation, after I thought we had come to an agreement. Finally she wrote,"But before I can meet you we must have virtual sex."
4. And finally, I've also encountered a few (2-3 if memory serves) who will negotiate with you and, again, right at the end, announce they want 30% or some prepayment via WU or such. I guess the idea here is that once you have been writing with them and have come to an agreement your more likely to put up the money she she got your expectations aroused (pun intended).
Navigate Mamba and all such sites with care!

I recently played along with a Mamba scammer who was better than most I have encountered.
This is a typical scammer scenario. Girl contacts you with pretty (but not racy photos) and with the minimum response on your side, decides that you and she have a relationship.
Sends photos and formulaic letters every few days, detailing various aspects of her life (work, family, interests, etc.).
Usually I don't bother with such things, but I guess I was bored and had no prospect of getting to Russia any time soon, so I played along just to see when and how the hook would come.
As I say, this girl was better than most, because while normally they don't even read the reply letters and just bulldoze ahead with their set pattern of letters, this girl would weave a reference or response to my last letter in her next one. Unless my response was too hot to handle, either demanding sexy photos or casting doubt on her authenticity. Then she would just ignore my message, wait a few days and send a letter filled with sunshine and pretty photos, hoping that I would forget my doubts. If I just got bored and stopped responding she would wait a week and send a tearful "what's wrong" letter.
This went on over at least 16 exchanges (each one with photos) over 2 months or more. So she was very patient.
The end game came in two stages. First she "told her parents about us" and they were very happy for us, etc. So she baits the guilt hook.
Then she announced the "good news" that she had asked her boss at work for a few weeks off and could come to visit me on such and such a date.
No requests for money for anything yet.
When I demurred, and explained that it would be much better for me to visit her in St Petersburg on my next visit (with a proposed time a few months hence) she dropped the correspondence. Which surprised me. She had been pretty patient and tenacious thus far, I was surprised she did not keep the game up a little longer, proposing to keep to her travel plans, or suggesting we meet half way or something. Or appear to acquiesce, and wait for me patiently, while drawing out the "sick mother" gambit. I guess she could tell I was not going to fall for anything, or reread my earlier skeptical letters.
Anyway, it was interesting to see the whole thing unfold and watch her little devices to overcome the roadblocks I put in her way.
I wonder how many guys they work at a time and what kind of success ratio they experience?
To Mamba's credit, they pulled her profile after a couple of days, which would have tipped me off if I did not already know from message #2 that she was a scammer.
Most mamba profiles that respond right away with "come now here is the number, here is metro station, coming?" are bait and switch. Don't even bother. Just happened to me yesterday where girl assured me it was her and her pictures and not a salon. I went up to be greeted by two dogs. I was on alert when I called first and a sleepy voice told me how to get there and then a different voice on the phone answered once I got off the metro with detailed directions with a background that sounded like she was on a metro. First, they did not just eliminate the "sponsor" and "willing to sponsor" check boxes, they also eliminated "offer sex for money" and, under "what you are looking for" (love, friendship, etc) they eliminated "sex" or "one night stand" as an option. And finally, they got rid of the sexual description data. Breast size, sex preferences, etc. WTF?
Oh, and now the "pink profile" is, I think, reserved for profiles with racy photos, although how that is organized I am not sure.
Now it will be very difficult to search for appropriate women, and to screen out inappropriate women. Surely the P4P girls will still be there, but now harder to distinguish from the other girls (wide age range seems to be the best indicator now). I don't even know what to look for now. So you can search for girls 18-22 in Kazan who are "actively searching" for a relationship AND are now on the site. You can't do that on facebook.
One thing I've learned is that vkontakte has stupid presents, they cost something like $0. 25 each but if you give one to a girl and then add her she is more than 50% likely to add you as a friend. I have just upgraded my membership in anticipation of a trip to Ukraine and, first I had lots of trouble doing so, it kept giving me an error message.

I want to ask about experience with Mamba. I have started using it about 2 months before departure to try to set up some ladies for dates, drinks, or whatever I can get. With a bit of trial and error (and time wasting) I thought I could share what has been working on Mamba. There is definitely an element of luck involved.
If using Mamba for free one is limited to viewing 200 profiles, and being able to send 20 personal messages within 24 hours. This is why I've found it is necessary to commence sending messages at least 1 week in advanced in order to play the numbers game. This can be quite time consuming so depending on how much spare time you have.
Beginning I search the city of choice for the appropriate age range which seems to get my best results. 18 to 27. I think I should even narrow this further. 23 to 27.
I browse quickly just opening girls in a new tab which I think at relatively attractive in their small picture, then I quickly scan to see if they list English. If not I immediately close the window and move on. This rule on English I almost never break unless they list French (rare) or Dutch (very very rare).
Once I have found an English listed one, I quickly open the message window and have copy / paste prepared "Hello, I would like to get to know you, (name)" and close the window. I rarely look at any more pictures unless something particularly catches my eye. I move on and repeat this until quickly clocking up 20 messages. Repeat every 24 hours until getting to the city. From 20 messages I might be lucky to get one nibble with interesting conversation and maybe another 2 with poor English or boring conversation.
Golden rule to never break. Do not ever mention sex, ever.
In my opinion starting only 2 days in advance is not worth it. Rarely would the normal Russian girl come out to meet a foreigner with only a few messages and barely any chatting. It is necessary to put them at ease and get to know them.

So I posted my small project for this weekend.

I noticed most of the listing in Intimacy (Which I am under the impression is one of the more reliable sites, with plenty of local reviews) are for Moscow. Are any listing for SPB? And if so, is there any way to filter the results? I've tried to figure it out for a while with no success.
Filters are working fine, you have to enter the search parameters. Unfortunately again all in Russian, its usually on the left side of the page, but with a little bit of effort and google translate you should be able to manage. Dosug. Cz is in English though. If you like you can provide your search parameters, somebody will be able to enter them and send you a link with the results.

Cian. Ru seems to be the big one. It seems to be the site for western Russia for sure, and some regional cities as well. As with any site, you can run it in google chrome to view in English.
There is also a nice video on youtube on how to use Cian.

Prices seem ok but the Euro style apt. Are scarce compared to ukraine. I'm strictly talking provinces.

Even though there is a strongman in charge, it was still possible for the small fish to ply their tawdry trade if only through pathetic rags like FLIRT. This clampdown is yet another hint that the noose is tightening ever further on civil liberties in Russia.

Yes, you can invite an overseas "friend" to visit you in Australia, but the application process is lengthy and expensive. So I am reliably informed.

Western embassies are tough on Russian women even if your married. Knew some who couldn't get Russian wives over to the UK after many years of trying.
