TBK is a better place to choose girls, safer, no cheating, no stealing, the girls goes for medical check every mth. Etc. Upfront the girl tells the puppy if she do not want you. The hotels are safer and secure. Cheap food too. Except the taxi or ojek is expensive, Not many pubs, discos the weak points.I think you generalise too much. The medical check is almost non-existant, apart from a monthly jab of who knows what. I have known papi who forced their girls to take customers. It depends on the status of the girls.

Many locals blame the sharp drop in visitors to TBK to the recent increase in port taxes. Jumped from 25k to 60k for foreigners. But I think its only a contributing factor, or the last straw. Since last year's economic downturn, there has been a visible drop in visitors.
I recently found an interesting blog that writes about the latest happenings at TBK. Just google tanjung balai karimun blog and you will find this site.

What is SYTs? How do I get to these Villa and Ruko without a driver? Any hotels nearby within walkin distance, I haven't been to Tg Balai for years. I wonder how it looks like now. Even if we get to these houses with an ojek, they would still get commission rite? Im planning to go to balai in the 4th week of July maybe. Any members interested let me know. Airlines are giving cheap discounts suddenly most probably bcos of the swine flu, I bought an AirAsia two way ticket from KUL-CGK (Jakarta) for only RM109!!! In Jakarta you would have more options and better quality even during fasting month, but not in Balai. Most of the chicks would be getting ready to head back to their villages, so even lower quality in Balai.

- article 297 lays out the penalty for being involved in trading of women / **** women. definition of "****" when it comes to the provisions of article 297 is under 21 years of age, if not married.
- the legal age for being a prostitute in a brothel complex is 18 years old.
what does this mean? well, most women involved in balai sex trade are bonded to the brothels and therefore viewed as "trafficked women". by booking one of these brothel girls, you are viewed as a party involved in the trafficking of women and hence, will get into trouble, if the girls are under 21 of age. thus, if the balai cops want to make an example of you / need some extra cash, they can always threaten you with article 297. if this happens, you are likely to beg, borrow or steal, just to pay them off, unless you know someone higher up the food chain. either way, you are screwed.
just to be clear, the prostitution legal age of 18 only applies to situations where you pick up a freelancer / pick up a girl from brothel complex that is not bonded / the girl is married.

I was at R Sayang. At 4th floor too. Hotel fully booked. Understand 40 rooms were booked by Church group fm Spore. Saturday nite, tere was Razia. It happened right in front of my eyes I. E. Infront of R Sayang. Small children, gils, (along the streets) were hauled up by the security. I suppose they are without KTP, etc. Fasting mth around the corner. Have to please the religious authority tere.

Three of us was there Tijuana Balai Karimun from 14 to 16 Aug 09. Had a good time, even though crowded with many cheongers, because last weekend before puasa.
First Info.- Kukup Port is officially and fully operational. That means all Ferry tickets must be purchased by the passenger himself from the ticket counters inside the port building. The counters are open just 40minutes before departure time. No more agents buying the tickets. The ferry tickets are priced at RM85 and plus RM5 for extra fuel cost, thus total RM90/=. That's not the end, the port tax is another RM10/=. So RM100/= return.
However expensive, I made it as I have not been there quite some time. Walked from Karimun port to Hotel Paragon. Checked into Paragon for the Rp170K Deluxe. Yesterday morning went to Balai. Had not gone there for 1.5 years. Notice now only 3 schedules of ferry each way a day from Singapore, even on sat and Sunday. I took 8 am ferry, its 80% full but mostly Balai residents. Upon reaching Balai at 10am, walk out of jetty and saw the driver that used to drive me around. I did not inform him that I was going, however, since I met him I just use his service again.
He told me nowaday Balai is much quiet even on weekend. I told him to drive me to chicken farm first before booking a hotel. I told him to go Ruko first. Upon reaching, I noticed and he confirmed that many houses had closed down. Since I can't find a single girl that fit my bill, we went on to Villa. He stop outside Toni shop and we went in. Straight away I pick up a 19 yr old SYT. Papi charge me Rp600 000.
Then, I told the driver to drive us to eat breakfast. He send us to opposite Palapa hotel to eat chicken rice. A meal for 3 plus a cigrette cost Rp 90 000.
Then I went on to book Palapa Hotel at S$36. The hotel is very clean, much better than Gabion where I used to stay.
The gal is slim but got a C cup. Her hole is tight too. I also ask her to give me a good blow and she willing do it for half hour. However, these day I don't enjoy fucking to much, hence, I book a 6pm ferry back to Singapore. The ferry carry 30 to 40 people at most.
All in all, I spent around S$230. Will not be going for a long time because everything is much expensive there compare to few yrs ago. The driver also told me now got much much less old men from Singapore going there. However, the number of malaysian tourist has increase.

Depending how much work they done for you, 20K seems adequate. Usually they are a bunch of nice chaps if you do get a chance to know them.

I'm currently in Balai and I have some updates, and hopefully someone can correct me if I have made some misconceptions.
I arrived at Balai 10am checked in at hotel Sangrila, also checked out hotel Gambion. Cost 160k per night.
I didn't really see the hotel driver offer to drive me to villa or rukko. And given that they usually get a commission I decided to make my own way there. There was a member named that Asshole who posted a map, whilst the map wasn't exactly easily to follow, those with a bit of common sense should be able to walk there. Took me about 30-45mins to walk. Not far but not close. On the way back I took a yellow mirolet, cost 4k.
Villa, I mostly saw old or fat girls a few younger ones acted totally disinterested or were 5-6 in looks, so nothing really caught my eye, maybe ill look again another day. But overall in my perception a place for very old men or desperate men.
Rukko, again tyeh same old or fat girls. Tho I saw two that was passable. I wasnt really in the mood to book, so that day I was just testing the waters, a MILF wanted 700k a bargain down to 550, a younger girl was told the price was 1 mill but I didn't try to bargain hard asked for 500k but the okt said was 1mill, maybe next time bargain for 700k. But given that it is still over 50usd for the booking its not exactly a bargain given otehr options in the region. Like the Phillipines and Myrmmar, Vietnam etc.

I stumbled onto this thread while researching for my upcoming trip to Bandung next month. I was interested because I go to Singapore 2-3 times a year and TBK is close by. I am intrigued by the primitive environment. It gives me a sense of adventure. I have rented motorcycles and explored places like Northern Thailand, Cambodia & Laos.
Unlike the many lazy people who ask dumb questions without making an effort to rtff, I read all 44 pages of this thread beginning on December 2005. Took me 3 days of casual reading and notes taking. One probably needs to read the most recent 20 pages to get all the information needed to make a trip.
Unfortunately, I don't have anymore time to squeeze a trip to TBK in March. I live in the USA. I hope to go on my next trip in July. I have two questions that were not touched on by posters. The first is: How is the internet / WiFi quality in the hotels? Since there's nothing else to do other than mongering, I can at least do some work if there is decent internet. So which hotels have bad or no internet?
Second question is about mosquitoes. I just cannot deal with them, especially when I sleep. Are all hotel rooms air conditioned? Even with A / see, do most room windows and doors have gaps & holes where mosquitoes can still come in? I find this to be common in Bali and Surabaya. Sometimes it got so bad that I have to use a bath towel to cover my entire face to sleep.
