How should I interpret this? Never been to UEA so whats the difference? Any idea if I should book a double room if I will have a guest sometimes?
If you read the FRs you will see the hotels are GF..this is the Philippines...in other countries life is not so accommodating. If you had read a few FRs prviously you would see someone stayed at the NW...(me! with another ISG mate) ..just a thought...better than saying RTFF I suppose

And yes book a double that makes your life easier.

If anybody wants to hear my opinion abot st giles hotel, here it is.

Soft opening was in June 2010, grand opening is expected jan. 2011. I booked a superior room through their website. Its 57 USD with a 10 % discount, all taxes and service charges included, no breakfast. The delux is 72 USD, as well less 10 % right now.

Superior room is good, even if it is never 4 star like. So everybody who knows hyatt, kempinski or shangri la will be hardly disappointed. But its classes better then pearl lane eorotel or cherry blossom (I took a look at rooms there).

So of course in st giles everything is new, furniture still okay, big tv screen. The room size is not too big, less then 20 sqare meter, but construction is a bit tricky with some corners for the writing desk for example. Shower is big enough for 2, electronic inroomsafe is working. For superior room they do not offer slippers or tooth brush, who ever needs it. Rooms on street side (mine) are a big noisy.

They have 4 elevators and one guy who has the job to press the button for you. Guy is working mostely okay, one elevator was broken during my 4 days stay. Girls to the room never was a problem, no I'd check.

Location:

Makati, door by door to city garden which every cab driver knows. If you tell them st. Giles they get big eyes. Burgos street by walking 1 minute. La cafe, robinsons, edsa by cab all between 90 and 110 peso if they go by meter. Always got a meter cab latestly in the 3. Attempt.

Suggestion:

In my eyes the value for the money is good. Great place for burgos fans. It can be a bit boring to stuck in traffic jam if your place is la cafe and surrounding.

Hi

Can any of you give me some mid/upper range hotels close to Greenbelt (5 minutes walk close)

I have stayed at New World Hotel - any other suggestions. Obviously girl-friendly is a pre-requisite

Planning my next trip to Makati - only thing that keeps me sane back in the UK!

I'll be in Manila for a week at the end of this month. Anyone recently stayed at A. Venue on Makati Ave? If so, how is it in terms of cleanliness, service and girl friendliness?

Many thanks

Looks a bit cheaper than the Best Western in the same area.

Manta RayHi Manta.

Altho the location is ok, the facilities arent.

Firstly the car park is dreadful.

Secondly the elevators are really slow.

Third the bathroom is tiny, with the taps all positioned incorrectly.

Fouth, corridors are noisy as they are tiled.

And fifth, theres a big disco thats outside that pumps up the volume till 4 on a Friday night.

I had some great times there, and the Italian restaurant neaby is a nice enough place but the hotel. Good idea but very poor execution.

Have a good trip there!

Not recently, this Feb. No issues with bringing girls back. I think people live there so there is the walk of shame factor if you are sensitive to such. The only issue I can think of is the bathtub/shower which was suspect (at least the one I had). The tub is high and is miniture size, think 1/3 of typical NA tubs.

Getting some mega quotes from some 4/5 star hotels for february next year. How long should i wait before committing?

Good question. I am in the same situation, waiting for the 2011 real rates before I book my Feb & March Manila reservations. We have to be patient. These hotels are not going to be fully booked. I guarantee you that. You could make a last minute reservation a couple of days before your arrival if necessary any time of the year, but it won’t come to that.

Here is what is going on: the new rates have to go through the hotel bureaucracy/chain of command every time the calendar year changes. It is red tape and we have to wait for the hotels to issue the new rates for the next 12 months. That’s why in July or August you can get good rates for November or December, but in November they will still quote you the rack rate for January. I am very familiar with this slow freeze roll out. Many 4* & 5* hotels in less developed countries do the same thing. I am referring to making reservations in the top 3 hotels in for example La Paz, Bolivia. It is another indication of how they do things in PI vs. say Thailand.

I am checking the rates every week or so in Expedia, Agoda, and the hotel web sites themselves. By the first week in December the real rates should click in. Like I said in a previous post, I consider all the high end hotels in Makati fungible with the exception of the Shangri-La Makati which is a little better than the rest. Icon, Dusit, New World are all pretty good. I’ll take the one that offers the best rate, probably the Dusit.

Many thanks,

Manta RayHi Manta,

I have stayed there. it is decent. the bathrooms are tiny and annoying. I would recommend the St Giles, which is right across the street. it is nicer and the bathrooms are bigger.

I just looked and you can get it for $57/per night (US dollars).

http://www.stgilesmanila.com/

The difference in the two is the A venue does have a sitting room and more of an apartment set up. your call, maybe do a night at one and check out the other to see which is more to your liking. you cant go wrong with either for the money and location.

Planning my next trip to Makati - only thing that keeps me sane back in the UK!I am sure you know the obvious ones, Shangri La and Peninsula. You can try the Mandrin Oriental which is just a couple of blocks further down the street. They are the older of the 5 stars and have lesser rates.

Also, I would look at the Somerset chain. They are more of an apartment. They are very nice and very large inside. The somerset olympia is a dump however. So if you are set on the greenbelt area try the somerset millenium. Also they have another group assocaited with them called the Ascott. But I think they are similar in price to the Shang/Peninsula in price. But they will be worth the money for a very large and nice apartment.

Stayed there for 2 nights last week. Good size rooms, OK internet (cable) good size bead and aircon that does not kill you :).... Location is perfect, hotel is girl friendly and fairly cheap (payed 50USD for executive suite - booking via agoda). I didn't check any other facilities so I can't comment on the pool or restaurants. The only annoying fact was there is no safe in the room (safety boxes at reception) and that they charge like wounded bull for ANYTHING. To clean the room they wanted 500 peso, if you lose the key from the safety box its 100 USD, 150 peso for an hour internet and so on...

Well, from the replies I got it seems that St Giles, which is nearby, would be a better choice than A Venue.

Thanks again for the replies lads, and I will report back after my stay.

BTW, if anyone wants a wingman/beer buddy on an evening while I am there (Nov 30-Dec 4), do drop me a PM.

I think someone compared it to the IBIS in europe which is a fair. I have stayed there few times the only thing I don't like is the fridge in the room you wont be able to fit in more then 4-5 drinks in it. Never seen anything like it. Pool on the roof is nice. They had a Halloween party few weeks ago so its all nice and functional. Official hotel opening is in january so there is still some work going on but unlike last time when I stayed this time it was quite and decent. Book through their website, rates are cheaper. If you are extending again you need to book over the net as counter price is much more expensive. I found that silly but most hotels do it.

I found that silly but most hotels do it.All the big hotel chains, Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, Starwood etc have something called Rate Parity.. which means they all offer a guarantee that if you can find a lower rate on internet thsan offered at hotel, they will refund you the differnce.

The fact that these little independantly run hotels dont offer such means that Ive seen guys logging on in lobby of a hotel, asking Front Desk best rate and then showing them that theres a much better rate for same hotel on internet.
Desk clerk shrugs her shoulders, guy books online in the hotel hes already at and hotel then pays the Agoda / Wotif etc commission and the credit card commission.. As we know, sometimes in the Phils their business common sense is more like business non sense.

Just got back... Stayed at Somerset Millinium on Aguirre Street... 3 minute walk to Greenbelt 1 and 5.... 8-10 Minute walk to Cafe Havana... $82 including breakfast, low key Apartment Style Hotel.... GF friendly.... Won't think twice about staying here again... This is a great find..

I always like the Dusit and based on my comments some mingers claim they chose to stay there

Now despite what I am about to write I will still stay there as I believe this was a 'one off' and am a mellow guy...

Firstly, not only did I see a cocroach but I saw 5..some crawling over my laptop, others in the bathroom...on 2 separate days, the second time after they had sprayed etc

Then...to top it all..I got food poisoning (and I rarely get this in years of travelling). The only culprit was the soup I had late at night (not having eaten prior to that except a nice breakfast in Toscas early in the morning). The soup is served chilled but I wanted it heated...thus causing me a nice 24+ hours of staying in my room enjoying the porcelain

But credit to the Dusit management. The cockroaches did disappear, I declined an upgrade as I was leaving the next day (but I have a promise of lovely upgrades next time and more), plus all sorts of complimentary wine and food...that I could not enjoy due to the food poisoning :). But the thought was good

But I will still stay there again (upgrades or no upgrades), the rate was excellent this time and well worth it

Could not make a fellow mongers party which was disappointing but I would only drink water and need to be close to a toilet so a taxi ride with all the bumps of Manila to get ther was not the best way to help me recover quickly :)

PS..if you think this will help get upgrades a word of advice..make sure you show them the cockroaches....

Thanks WR for your Dusit cockroach recommendation. I must admit the Dusit was my selection for my next trip in February. And given that I won't be partaking in any form of soup, I hope it is the right choice.

My question is. When to book? Do I leave it to the New Year for a mid Feb trip. Or do I try and get some kind of last minute deal.

Some advice from the well travelled would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Omall

By the way and as an aside. Got an email form one of my ladies from my previous trip professing undying love and glibly informing me that she was pregnant. No f****ng way this was my doing. Plus she must have a menstrual cycle, gynoe, and give me money charity infrastructure that would beat all measures of normal time

I expressed this to her in a more terse fashion.basically giving her the fuck off tablet.

I book mine online about a month before as Dusit can get full as it is popluar for a number of online events. Have done last minute but sometimes pricier than earlier as the hotel is trying to fills rooms

Recommend you do a check on the web sites and see what prices, then a few days later and see if any movement etc.

1100 Peso for standard (Ruby) room…Air con, hot and cold water, wifi in room @ 50P/Hr, 200P day unlimited or free in Star Tavern ( live music nightly)

Stayed 4 nights upon arrival to catch up with myself after the marathon flight from USA Midwest. Although posted sign states “No Guests After 11PM” Aussie punter had his DIA sweetie overnight with no problem. Clientele is mix of families, business types, punters and budget tourists.

Friendly atmosphere overall and strong plus was aid given by Gary (owner), a 6+ foot, 40 y/o ish, Chinese extraction with a history as a backpacker. He steered me to an upscale Spa located about 6 blocks away, for a 300P massage by a hefty lady who worked the hitch out of my giddy-up. Because it was raining heavily, he had his driver take me there at no charge.

He also directed me to another location (Happy Sauna) about 50 meters away that specialized in full service, nut-sack draining (FR in Manila section and photo in photo section). He also offered an introduction by his General Manager to a full nude strip club owned by a relative. Did not go as had a 04:15AM flight to Cebu but was told GRO take out is about 1500 all-in.

Would stay here again-- value for money and as I am on a 6+/- month wander in SE Asia and no longer have a corporation footing my bills, am most interested in budget, mid-range, safe flop.

Jan and Feb prices:

I have been waiting for the 2011 reality rates to kick in at the Makati 5* (really 4*) hotels before I make my reservations. Today I saw that the New World is now asking $100 for a superior room and in the next couple of weeks I expect the Dusit to be asking around $90, the InterContinental $95 for similar entry level rooms. I booked the New World for part of my stay. I have Icon points and I think I might want to stay there for the remainder of my visit if the price is right ($0.00). I'd like to checkout their bar one night.

P.S. I am allergic to cockroaches; absolute truth.

The hotel prices for calendar year 2010 are already in. You may find some deals on Wotif or some other travel site because the last thing a hotel wants is to have a room go vacant. They can never recover lost rent so last minute deals are sometimes available. It's a question of whether you are willing to risk not getting a room at some specific hotel.

In my post, I was referring to the staggered roll out of room prices for calendar year 2011 and that I am finally seeing some price movement for the New Year. The Dusit for example is still asking $135 or more for a standard room Feb. booking, which is crazy. Go to Travelocity, Expedia, or Agoda and compare prices for the same hotel at different dates like Dec 14 through Dec 19 vs. Feb 8 through Feb 13. The Feb prices are ridiculous because hotel management has not signed off on next year's prices. They will soon. As I posted, the New World as of yesterday, is now quoting $100 for a Feb booking and this marks the beginning to the 2011 price roll out. If I wait till Feb I might get the New World for $90. Then again, I might not.

The only hotel that I've stayed at that was girl un-friendly was the Bayview Park in Ermita. Every other place turns a blind eye to things. Tip the doorman when you first get there; after that they wink at you when you bring in two girls at once, or your second girl for the evening.

I am trying to get to Sabang, but it seems if you don't leave Manila by the crack of dawn, you can't make it the same day. I won't arrive in MNL until about noon. Swagman offers daily bus service, but I was wondering if it is worth it to stay at their hotel and not have the hassle the next morning, or is the hotel really as bad as it sounds.

I am also assuming there is easy access to the local Manila talent? TIA.

Thanks in advance for your helpTry Craigslist, there are quite a few on there. I can't comment on the areas you are looking but there are some very good deals. You may want to narrow your choices down to several and then stay in a hotel for a few days while you go to view them. The bad news is the best ones get taken months in advance.

Their website defaults to the $72 rate. You have to choose the other type of room to get the lower. I ended up paying the higher price because of this back in July. Lessons learned! Thanks Devils I will look at that as was surprised as when I last went to the site it was $57. Never too old to learn technology. Thats what I tell the girls.

Making my first trip to the Philippines in a few months and already booked a room at the Marriott as I got a great rate from a my buddy of mine. From the website the hotel looks great but anyone here have any info regarding this place? How far is it from Burgos St? Been reading up the forum the pass few weeks and don't recall seeing anyhting on the Marriott.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have been waiting patiently for the roll out of 2011 realistic pricing for the 3 Makati 4.xx star hotels. Finally today, I see the New World is offering $86 for deluxe and $93 for premium rooms, FEB 2011 booking with Expedia. That does it for me. I am now officially staying here. The Dusit and Icon are slowly lowering their prices. I don't care anymore. Anyone of these three hotels would have been fine for me. It was all about price.

On my last night in Manila, I will be moving over to the Marriott. There are three reasons for this. 1) I want to have an easy and no hassle ride to the airport. 2) I want to check out AF One. 3) Thanks to Marriott reward points my cost will be $0. 00.

So that does it for me as far as lodging in Manila goes. Five nights at the New World Makati for $86 / night and one night at the Marriott for free. It's my cherry trip to Manila and PI for that matter and I am really looking forward to it.

Phat G; since I am also staying at the Marriott, if only for one night, I did a fair amount of research on the area before I made my booking. The hotel itself is very new and has all the amenities (pool, shopping, ect). It is probably a nicer hotel than the New World (formerly a Renaissance Hotel). I think it will be very nice to stay there.

But, the Marriott is some distance from Burgos and that may be a problem for you if you are like me and hate being stuck in traffic. Others more knowledgeable than myself can tell you exactly how long a taxi ride it is to Burgos. From what I have researched; it takes from 25 minutes to an hour depending on the traffic. But do not fret, all is not lost. AFI and the Asian Entertainment Complex are in very close proximity and the EDSA Entertainment Complex is a little further afield. Therefore I suggest that you start your nightly hunting trips at AF 1 and then branch out from there until you get to the EDSA complex. In the Manila & Cebu forum you will find a very excellent recent report claiming that EDSA is superior to Burgos Street. I have read other reports that confirm this, but I personally don't know if this is true or not because this will be my first trip to Manila too. You may or may not even make it to Burgos depending on how long you are staying in Manila, but as long as your women are hot and you are having a good time; that's all that matters.

I e-mailed City State 8 days ago for a reservation. Of course. 8 days later no confirmation. So then I called there,

"Yes Sir" we will send you confirmation by e-mail. Of course, I end up scratching my ass again because no confirmatory e-mail. So I called the gf and she called them and did the Tagalog thing. Two days later, no confirmation, no nothing. She can't belive it because her father is in the hotel industry. And I have stayed there many times before.

WTF is going on with City State?

This never happend before. I had that problem too when I wanted to stay there last month because of a friend's recommendation. I tried booking a reservation by emailing but no reply at all. What I did was go there to see if there was any room available then booking it at that time. I already made a reservation at the front desk for the next March and got a confirmation.

TIA.

SkyThe Swagman Hotel is an awful choice for a place to stay, even for one night. I do however use Fly The Bus and their restaurant, particularly enjoying their breakfast buffet.

However, just down del Pilar, perhaps a 3 or 4 minute walk from Swagman's, is the Duck Inn. For p1, 300, it is a great place to stay, very clean with a great staff. Below is the link.

Just want to give some feedback about ST Giles. Stayed there for a total of 6 days at the start and end of my trip.

The Good.

Location, if you want to be next to P. Burgos. The price was good for $58 a night with the promo. Small pool but had a fantastic view from the 35 floor. Had a small gym bud was good for basics. I really liked how they called the room when a guest leaves. Just to let you know. And the staff I thought was very helpful and friendly. Nice flat screen tvs with a decent selection of channels. Everything seemed very clean and new.

The Bad.

The first room I stayed in I shared a room with a friend of mine. The beds were very small and tuff to fit a lady in bed with you. We had a tub in our bathroom which wasn't bad. But it was very high off the floor and made for a big step down to the floor. The second room I stayed had one good size bed. And the bath had a shower this time. But the poor design of the shower doors made it impossible to keep the bathroom floor from getting soaked. The lobby did have a chemical or paint smell most of the time.

Overall, would stay there again if the rates were good. Hope my 2peso helps

I already made a reservation at the front desk for the next March and got a confirmation.I went there once without a reservation, got there and was told they were full as were other places in the immediate area. They did however, give me a reservation beginning the following day. After looking for a room for the night at about 5 other places, I finally found something at some shithole on Del Pilar down by the Hobbitt Bar. It was a God awful place on the same level as Hotel Iseya.

It's been a while since I've stayed in MM. With a late arrival I was hoping for something near the airport and EDSA Entertainment (other than Heritage and Copacabana) and came across Microtel at Mall of Asia. Has anyone stayed there?

And what is the hotel right there at the airport? Is that Mariott? Online search seems to indicate prices at about $150 which is more than I want to pay. X

I just got to Manila and checked into the Dusit. There's a lot of security so I was a bit worried. You have to pass through one door and they search you with the security wand and look thru bags when you enter. Lots of security in front of and in the lobby.

Last night I was almost ready to pack it in unaccompanied after a night in Burgos but ran into two girls and decided to go for it. I asked them if they would follow me 5 minutes later into the hotel so I gave them my room number. I knew the lobby would be sort of crowded and as a near 50 year old dude I didn't feel like strolling through with two 20-somethings with me on the way to my room.

2 minutes after I entered my room the phone rang and security asked if the 2 "guests" can come up and I said "yes". We had a good time and about 2 hours later they left. About 2 minutes after they departed hotel security called back and asked me if everything was OK and that my two guest were departing. Again I said "yes" and that was that. I like the extra security on departure.

Bottom Line: Dusit is girl friendly, but there's lots of lobby security.

Thanks again for the tips,

PabloThis is my first time in the Philippine and I am new to the world of mongering. I booked a room at Dusit for a 6 days, there was a deal on Expedia where if you book 2 nights, you get the next 1 free, it might still be on. Anyways I feel it might have issue with the whole Walk of Shame, and would really like to do what Pablo has done. Has anyone else gotten girls to walk in 5 mins after them, with only a room number and a guest name? I am in no way questioning the validity of pablo's post, I am just asking if this common practice / can be done without problems.

Second question, has anyone used smart bro's plug-it prepaid for broadband access whilst in Manila. Is there service reliable, fast, and are there any other good alternatives?

Many of the larger hotels require the use of the room key to allow the elevator to stop at your floor. Dusit is like this. So whatever system you use the security will need to be involved in order for the girls to get to your floor.

Easiest thing if you are uncomfortable walking in with the girls is to go ahead and wait by the elevator and then 3 mins later they can walk in and go straight to the elevator where you are waiting. However, karma always comes into play. Last time I did this they couldn't find the elevator and had to ask security anyway so I still ended up with 2 girls and 3 security guys involved in a discussion. The security guys were winking and smiling. They were OK, and probably just a tad jealous.

Now, after coaching from WR the master teacher, I just sail in with a girl or girls without caring too much and take no notice of anyone.

I use Globe Tattoo for my wifi access if there is none provided free in the hotel but I understand that Smart Bro ihas possibly broader range over the Philippines. If you are in Manila both are OK. Not super fast but fast enough for normal email access.

As RK says, stroll in as no one cares gentlemen! Yes they can register at reception etc and then come to your room but is that more 'embarassing' than walking throught the Dusit with a lovely 1/2/3 cuties with you and most guys getting jealous (well those without cuties with them)

Dusit is a lovely hotel and has good security IMHO. There is no Walk of Shame in the Philippines IMHO :D And am over 50 and I have 18 year old girls with me. But then RK will likely say I have no shame in the first place :p:

Nothing really keeping a vehicle from continuing into the lobby but some plate glass. I saw them pull up a truck and unload gear for a band. Security did not check the truck first. And its known westerners stay there.

I hope they've put in concrete barricades or planters since my last visit.

The newer St Giles hotel on the corner of Burgos in Makati was Clean and new and I had no problems with bringing girls in. The doormen would even watch out for the taxi for me with my girl and then call my room when it arrived.

Every morning the doormen would ask me how my time was with the girls and I would show them a few photos which they enjoyed.

St Giles has a pretty good deal on their website that includes free breakfast buffet, Wifi internet and a pick up to and from ther airport.

The less expensive room is small but I did not mind.

I'm at G Hotel on Roxas Boulevard right now and I was surprised at the lack of security. A car bomer or other suicide bomber can drive up or walk into this place with staff opening the doors and greeting him or her. As the front door is immediately adjacent to the street, there is nowhere to place appropriate security and there appears to be no armed security which I consider to be highly unusual.

Usually I am at Diamond Hotel which does not permit a vehicle to approach the front door without over, under and interior inspection. Step two is to get past the bomb sniffing dogs and armed security and step 3 is toi pass front door security with magnetometer. There are cameras on every floor of Diamond and I see none on my floor here at G Hotel.

As per the "walk of shame" mentioned below, I would be ashamed to even post that consideration on this board. All of the employees at those hotels know what's going on when they see some hot little pinay with a guy my age.

Security is important these days for sure but my view is that if they want to blow up your hotel they will. As for comments about trucks, etc well stay at many hotels all over the world where secuurity can 100 times better or worse than Manila. If I worried about it too much I would not focus on the cuties LOL.

Anyone worried about the Walk of Shame in PI should not come as all hotel staff know. An friend is now front office staff at a hotel in Subic, she full of stories, she used to be a WG now a real job and she finds it funny guys trying to hide what they are doing.

Be proud and walk the walk LOL

The only hotel that I've stayed at that was girl un-friendly was the Bayview Park in Ermita. Every other place turns a blind eye to things. Tip the doorman when you first get there; after that they wink at you when you bring in two girls at once, or your second girl for the evening. Is the Shangri'la girl friendly?

Guys no need to look at it as a walk of shame, in phil this should be known as the walk of pride.

For those that really want to be discrete, when checking in or latter ask for additional key / card saying your girlfriend is scheduled on the next flight and will need a key latter. Take the key and give it to the girl and tell her the room number so she can get up the elevator. Don't pay her or give her money before hand, she will follow instructions as she wants to be paid. If she doesn't turn up go call front desk and cancel the cards. Simple as that. This also works when you have a conservative colleague in the hotel with you, he never sees you with a girl or two.

Registration was done up on 2nd floor, not in reception on ground floor. Rooms very nice. Don't know about wifi. It is near airport, and everyone knows its location. Can walk across the street (if you dare) at 8PM for EDSA complex fun. Girls are impressed when you say you are "at the Heritage, across the street." Has helped me with a scared virgin, who I assured we would just "shower together, then touch each other, and then I will walk you back here." Mamasan encouraged her to go with me, and all was well. Give a try, if you don't mind the $$$$. Not too much within walking distance, although Mall of Asia is a very short taxi ride, as is Harrison Plaza.

Jambo: there is a boom gate at the entrance to the Dusit driveway. The guards there do a very thorough check of incoming vehicles including taxis etc. Remember also that bands and regular suppliers etc use the same trucks mostly all the time and these guards know who is shifty and who is not.

At the end of the day, who is going to bother bombing the Dusit. If anyone wanted to take out a group of foreigners (and perish the thought if they do) , they would surely use a car in the middle of Burgos or outside MBC.

Hyatt but its much more expensive.Try Copacabana Apartment. Hotel. 264 EDSA Extension, Pasay City. Right next door to Heritage and across the road from EDSA Complex. There is a walk bridge to get across the busy EDSA road. Much cheaper at around $50 per night and a bit average quality.

Hyatt but its much more expensive. For edsa heritage is about the best bet. However basically not worth the price. It is in the 100 to 130us range.

Girl friendly yes. For the ones hating the walk of shame simply enter via pagos (casino). But this means you need to trust your guest of the night. (no registration)

When visiting edsa you can use (walk) the overpass. Bringing your friend home take a cab. Yes it's only across the road but the girls don't like to walk over.

Don't take a waiting taxi in front of edsa way to expensive. Flag one down.

Also a very nice hotel in the malate area is the diamond. Just across from the hyatt. Us 100 range. Close to the mb cafe, former la cafe and many more clubs in the vicinity.

In the us 40 range you can find many on mabini Road. City state tower, lotus garden, cherry blossom etc. It you need to transfer to sabang city state is number one (sikat bus) but the coach leaves 8am!

For a noobie would not recommend asia entertainment network or af1. This can get verrrrrrrrry expensive. If you have lots of cash or know the ropes it is ok.

For me burgos is no option. High prices and in general less attractive girls than edsa.

Is there something else in the Heritage, EDSA area, that you would recommend?Stayed at Heritage few times. Sometimes you can get a package with breakfast and a city tour included if you book min 3 nights. Rooms are older but spacious and clean. Very girlfriendly. EDSA is right acroos from the place but need to walk over the crosswalk bridge. Girls want to impress the Taxi mafia outside and refuse to walk. I tell them it will be a romatic walk. Reluctantly they agree. Lots of real cuties at EDSA but tend to be expensive. Barfine is around 1600 pesos and min 2500 LT for the girl not counting any food or drink. No need to tip after you pay 2500. This money goes directly to the girl. Beware of the many runners if agreed for LT.

Some girls are real GFE. It is hard to get rid of them next day.

There is a casino in the building of Heritage and you can try your luck and take the girl too.

By the way the restaurents in Heritage hotel serve very good food and buffet breakfast is fantastic.

NaughtyNope. Nor do you want to unless she is a steady girlfriend who has earned your trust that you have checked into the hotel. Even my gf who is routinely checked into my hotel got mad at me last week and walked off with my cell phone to try to prevent me from phoning other girls. There's a reason for security calling your room and telling you that a guest is leaving. G Hotel on Roxas Blvd. Has no such policy and she easily walked with my phone while I was in the shower.

I have to agree with Slippery that girl registration is good. Who really cares what the hotel staff thinks about you, or any of the girls you bring in anyway? Unless, of course, you are hoping to score one of the desk clerks. On my cherry trip to Philippines, I thought it was strange that the hotel called me in the room to ask if it was OK for my guest to leave. In retrospect, I like the idea. I can check all my belongings while she is headed down to the front door. If anything is missing, I can tell the hotel to stop her from leaving with items she should not have. I also think it is a good idea to lock valuables (and cell phones) in a safe, or something that she would have a hard time carrying out. I (as I'm sure many others as well) have made the mistake of allowing my gf access to my phone, computer, little black book, etc, only to have it backfire. When she gets pissed off at you (and she will at some point) , she will try to do anything she thinks will stop you from having any fun without her.

Just my 2 centavos worth! .

I'm off to Manila next month. I've always stayed at the Lotus Garden but I'm not particularly enamored with it. Its location is great, but it's noisy and the annex doesn't have a lift. The annex is the only part of the hotel I can tolerate. The main building doesn't have free internet, is even noisier and has old, pokey rooms.

In other words, I'm looking for a better hotel in Ermita. Is the Executive Plaza better? WOuld anyone recommend another hotel in Ermita? I like the proximity to MBC!

In other words, I'm looking for a better hotel in Ermita. Is the Executive Plaza better? WOuld anyone recommend another hotel in Ermita? I like the proximity to MBC!

There is no free internet at Executive. Rooms in front can be noisy for light sleepers with all the honking by the cars. I like the hotel though and they've done some slight remodeling. It's a real easy walk to Robinson's, MBC and Adriatico.

Has anyone stayed here? Is it girl-friendly? Is it close to the action? Any info is greatly appreciated. I usually stay in Malate but am trying Makati this time.D Cups,

I haven't stayed there, but I did notice it on Makati Ave near Burgos. From the outside it looks just average. But it is only a couple of blocks from Burgos St and lots of good restaurants and bars. Also, you are a very short cab ride from Greenbelt with lots of good restaurants and bars. I don't know the price but for $57 / night you can book the St Giles which is brand new and very nice. Hope this helps!

Never been to Lotus but I can vouch for Executive. It's ok but no in room safe.

Meanwhile has anyone stayed at Great Eastern Hotel in Makati?About the Great eastern hotel I've been there 3 times I'd say it was a decent hotel and the last time I was there (nov2007) it was 100% girlfriendly and I'm pretty sure it still is. Its walking distance to the action on P. Burgos I'd say a couple of hundred meters.

A tip if you want a better view on location go to google choose map and search for the great eastern hotel, Makati.

I'll be back in Manila in early February again for 8 or so days the first time in a year or so. Will stay at Executive Plaza, most likely. Those of you based in the USA might be familiar with Entertainment books (the coupon tomes for big cities). Their entertainment. Com website has a travel section using the hotels. Com / Expedia engine and with the same prices, EXCEPT that there's a rebate deal in the book of up to $250 for bookings made via their portal.

I'm normally very leery of rebates but, for lack of a better deal, gave it a try on the summer trip last year, and all rebates came through (3 in Thailand. 1 in Hawaii). My best deal was at a Pattaya hotel for 10 days for $301 all-in where $250 of that came back in the rebate (posted as a credit to the credit card).

For Executive Plaza they're quoting just over $42 (no breakfast) , so an 8-day stay would be $339 + $77 (!) taxes and their fees, or $416. It'd be eligible for a $140 rebate, or $276 all-in net, which is $34. 50 / night. The reservation is cancellable without penalty up to 24 hours before. For a 10-dayer it'd be $520 with $250 rebatable, or $270 (an even better deal).

The entertainment books are going for $20 or less now, and you could be really cheap & just buy an unused 2011 card on eBay (maybe $3) and register a junk e-mail to it. You need a login to entertainment. Com and would have to book through their portal to get the generous rebate. Rebate info: http://www.ian.com/entertainment/promo.html

(There are other hotels. Com-related rebates out there, but this is easily the most generous I've seen) They have places like 1632 Hostel, Las Palmas, and a number in Makati in addition to Executive Plaza.

I am planning my next trip to the Philippines and in particular to Puerto Galera. I want to travel and take Si-Kat service that depart at 8:00am from the City State Tower. I checked this hotel but doesn't have room for my dates.

My idea is to stay in one of two hotels, Lotus Garden or City Garden Suites.

Can anybody tell me if these two hotels are near (walking distance) of City State Tower and if it is dangerous to walk with luggage to take Si-kat bus.

Thanks.

Thanks. Gents correct me if I'm wrong. City Garden and Lotus Garden are less than a block from each other, both on Mabini Avenue. City State is about 1 block away, coming left out of CG and towards Robinson's Mall. However, if you are dragging luggage, just have the CG doorman flag you a taxi. Mabini avenue sidewalk is terrible, full of cracks. Cost will be about 50 pesos ($1).

Stayed at this hotel a few days ago for the first time. Also booked here a month ago but cancelled it and went elsewhere because they wanted to charge me half day rate (P2200) for early check-in (9 AM). This time paid P3, 100 for a regular room through a volume travel agency. Though newer, the room is very basic and tiny. If you are average built, you will not like it. If you are a big guy, you will hate it. I had to close the bathroom door in order to use the sink.

I would not recommand this hotel to anybody for the price at P3100. There are better deals around.

I stayed in a corner room with large windows on two walls that looked down two different streets. The best rate was found directly on their website.

My check out time was about Noon but I asked the front desk if I could checkout at 5pm and they said there would be an additional 1/2 day charge. I politely asked them to wave the charge and the on duty manager said yes Mr. Tally Wacker that will be ok.

After I pre checked out and worked out the details with the front desk two 19 year old girls showed up to meet me that I later found to be only 17 years old. We had a little exercise and then I left them in the room watching MTV while I caught a flight back to USA. AHHHH the memories.

Thanks. Walking at that time of the morning is pretty mundane. I wouldn't worry about it. I have even walked from Executive Plaza at that time of the morning down to City State with my luggage. I've done it on return bus also. It's easier in the morning though no traffic from Executive. If you look at the addresses of all those hotels they're all on Mabini if you do a search online. It would tell you about how many blocks about what separates them.

What is the most girlfriend friendly hotel, don't care about the cost,.)With the exception of the Bayview Park hotel on Roxas in Ermita (they force you to register each guest) , and the cheap pensionne houses, I have never been a filipine hotel that was not girl-friendly. I've brought in to many hotels regularly two-somes, and serially in the same day 4 different girls (one at a time). In one hotel in Malate I brought in 5 girls one night (all at the same time) , who spent the night, and all of them again the next night (plus one more). Nobody says a word unless you try and bring extra guests to the hotel breakfast (then you pay more per person).

Wiper, you don't have to worry about paying more for a hotel that is more 'girl-friendly'. It will be hard to find a place that is not g-friendly. Please report back your findings from when you are there, especially if you find a place that is not g-friendly (any hassles).

Photos of room & rooftop pool of St Giles Hotel. From your photos this is definitely a much better room than the one I stayed at. The corner room also looks much bigger. If you are 6'2", I don't think you will be happy at all with the room I stayed. I don't know how much you paid for yours, but I paid P3100 / night. The only room smaller that I have stayed in my entire life was a room in Paris, where I didn't even have to get up from the bed to open the door for room service, and this one is just slightly bigger. I too nicely asked for a late checkout at 5PM, but got declined without paying half date published rate.

And to answer Devils 1 's question, for around P2, 600, one could stay at Antel Spa Residence near by on Makati Ave. It is a brandnew hotel as well, or for a little bit more at A. Venue Hotel, and you get a one bedroom suite. Even the Oxford Suite at the back of St. Gile at P2, 900, theire room is much much bigger, and if you request for a recently renovated room, they are very nicely appointed as well. Just to name a few.

Also, I have recommended it to several others who have been happy with it. I would suggest you give it another shot to see if they can correct the problems you encountered.

As far as A Venue I have stayed there in the past several times and found it to be a good choice as you described, but I would rate it a step lower than the St Giles. No need to argue just my opinion.

I really appreciate the info on Oxford Suites. I will definitely give it a try on my next visit.

Stayed in St Giles for five nights between Christmas and NY and one night at Microtel before my flight out in Jan. Got the cheaper room at St Giles on their website for US$52 per night (10% discount was automatically applied when I booked, no idea why). The room is decent size although the bathroom is a little tight as shown in photo. As a guess, probably a foot and a half from each of the bed to the wall and about three feet or so from end of bed to the desk / dresser thing. And of course the bathroom and the area in front of it. I would stay there again and would recommend esp for the price.

Microtel by Mall of Asia was around US$80 including tax. Two beds in the room and a good size bathroom (large shower only no tub). I stayed in the Microtel in Palawan and the rooms are exactly the same. Some people seem to have issues with only having water in the hallway but I actually like it because I drink a lot of water and it's always there if I forget to buy some. The main negative feature I saw was lack of taxis passing by in front. The hotel takes advantage of this by offering you ludicrous prices for airport transport (650P). Good service, when I informed I won't need the breakfast because I was checking out early (just before 6) the girl said she will have the kitchen prepare a breakfast for me to take in the taxi. The hotel would be good if the plan was to meet several dating site girls at MOA so that you can wait in your room or in the lobby with the free wifi until they arrive likely late.

I'm lucky that the company pays for my hotels here so I can stay pretty much where I want. Following advice here I stayed at the Dusit Thani in Makati late last year, and the Shangri-La this time.

The hotels are both very similar 5-star hotels, with similar security set up. I think the Shangri-la is a little nicer both in the rooms and outside. The Shangri-La breakfast buffet blows away the Dusit's in my opinion, the all you can eat sushi / sashimi puts it over the top.

Both are 100% girl friendly too. Similar 'walk of shame / pride' across the lobby from front door to elevators for both. Last night walking thru the lobby with my EDSA girl showing off her perfect little ass and long thin legs in her micro denim shorts and super high heels got plenty of stares and grins from the lobby staff.

While in the Dusit, I made a pair of street girls from Burgos follow me up on 5 minute delay so they had to pass security themselves. It wasn't a walk of shame thing, it was still early and I was afraid I'd run into a colleague in the lobby which could have been really bad. They made it up and I liked how on the way out the front desk called up to my room to make sure I was OK before they left.

I brought 4 girls up on 3 occasions at the Shangri-la (one a pair) , the pair was ST and the two singles were LT, and I never received a call up which makes sense as how could the hotel know they were working girls as they exited (ok, they probably did know but they didn't ask).

As for Makati vs. Downtown Manila, I still like Makati as I like the nicer malls that are so close and it seems to be safer and cleaner. I think Shangri-La is in a slightly better location than the Dusit as it's just 2 blocks from Greenbelt. 10 minute walk from my room to ordering a beer at Havana. Havana's a short cab ride but a longer walk from the Dusit.

I think EDSA is about the same distance from Makati as the downtown hotels. Burgos is more convenient to Makati. I really liked the MBC though and that's a bit of a drive from Makati especially with traffic. So where you plan to play drives the decision too, as well as cost maybe.

So that's just some quick comments that might help someone down the line.

City Garden is ok with good breakfast. Every time I think about upgrading to Diamond or Hyatt I always look at the deal at Bayview. They can be a little strict on guests but I am usually with the wife. Day time I don't see a problem as there is just to many people coming and going.

I was thinbking about Lotus garden next week but sounds like it is a bit noisy. Hope this helps

Re your comment about the hotel knowing the working girls:

When I was last in Cebu I got chatting to one of the head security guys at Waterfront Hotel and he told me how many of the girls (especially the 8's and 9's) are very well-known to security as they see them (almost) every night (with different guys of course).

It seems these girls hold out on going with guys until they know they are staying at one of the 5-star places. He told me of one girl who only goes with guys staying at Waterfront.

So if you hook a model type regular from Havana who can barter for top prices then chances are she is well-known to security at the Shang, Peninsula, Mandarin, Dusit et al.

SteveGood hotel, no probs with girls. Make most of ICON the night club, I think you get free entrance, ask for the VIP stamp that gives you access to upstairs. If you want to party with mates this is not a bad place, you can arrange the private VIP rooms via the hotel. Havana girls love the club. So maybe that is where you should look 2nite first. Action at icon is around 12-1 with some of the Russian girls that work at DAVINO also visiting late in the night.

It should be SOP when a girl leaves alone early morning. I am surprised they didn't call your room and check that it was OK for her to leave. They should have done that. There are plenty of examples of girls leaving early with items from your room that you did not donate to her.

What hotel was it?

Hotels I;ve stayed at (Dusit & Intercon) have always called me when the girl tries to leave to verify it is ok. I find this a great sense of comfort, as could easily happen while I am asleep and who knows what could go as well. I thought this is standard for the 5 star hotels here and I would guess all girls are used to it or should get used to it.

I can see this would be frustrating if the girl was your true GF and embarrasing for her, but then if it was a proper date, I would escort her down into a taxi anyway.

Funny thing was, she was not stopped coming in alone at 1 AM. First, why didn't you name the hotel? This is good info for us to know.

I don't agree that the hotel doing this means they're not girl friendly. Last trip when I was at the Dusit security stopped the girls on the way out and also phoned my room to ensure everything was OK. I REALLY liked that. This trip I stayed at the Shangri-La and they did not do this, even with an obvious pair of working girls who departed at about 3AM.

I personally don't care as much about the girls coming in. Although my Bangkok hotel does do that and they need a room key anyway to use the elevator and I don't really mind.

The two girls who LT'ed with me this trip left at about 7AM and were not stopped, but they both brought a change of clothes with them and departed simply dressed, not dressed like hookers, so I can see how they could have slipped thru security. But as has been stated, many of these girls are known by hotel security already.

I totally agree too with Steve D, if you want to be a gentleman and score points for a follow up date, escorting the girls down thru the lobby is a nice gesture. I do that with the girls who I really like and I know they appreciate it a lot.

Hey guys,

I'm headed to Mariott Manila for a few days before heading off to cebu. How is the door policy at Mariott? I have some spinners that I plan on bringing in during the day and at night but don't wnat to be boethered with I'd checks or registration at the front desk. Please advise on whether or not I can freely move in & out with my guests.

NaughtyNot many quotes about the new Marriott out near the airport. I've got some free nights vouchers (use or lose) , and figured I'd stay out there. I've not been to Manila in about 3 years. Yes, a long dry spell. And I usually stay at Shangril La or Intercon in Makati, I figured I'd give the new Marriott a go. Anyone else stayed out there? I'm sure its nice if its new. Also wondering about the ride into Greenbelt / Makati via taxi? Cheers,

LalakeIt is a very long ride to Makati made even worse by the rush hour traffic. Those mongers who I know have stayed there say it is a nice hotel but they only stay if leaving very early in the morning so prefer to be close to the airport. But if it is free well am sure the long taxi ride (up to an hour in rush hour IMHO) won't bother.

WR: thanks for the update. I will see how it goes. I've got plans to see some old gf. So will have her do the long ride one night. And since I'm saving about $150 / night (x3) , that will get me a nice car to travel into Makati. Will keep you all posted. Cheers, Lalake

It is a very long ride to Makati made even worse by the rush hour traffic. Those mongers who I know have stayed there say it is a nice hotel but they only stay if leaving very early in the morning so prefer to be close to the airport. But if it is free well am sure the long taxi ride (up to an hour in rush hour IMHO) won't bother.

I too will be spending a few nights at the Marriott in May and I get in around 7 pm. I figure a few hours rest and I'm good to go but do not want to waste my time in traffic.

If you want to leave for Makati / Burgos at 10pm traffic will be bad trust me, go to EDSA or call in a girl via contacts etc, some massage places will help.

LL: you are lucky as you are saving a lot. Still can't believe why it is so expensive there, bloody mad price. Means I prefer to get up earlier to get to the airport

I'm usually too tired to bother going down with them. I always tell them that if the security folks hassle them, to give them my room number and have them call up to verify that all is okay. That usually calms their nerves and lets them know that they are not being set (fully) adrift. Never had the call happen at the Shang, where I stay. Looks like they have an open door policy That said, hotels in Ind, Thailand and other countries have called up to ensure that all was okay before releasing the girl.

Currently staying at a nice, thought to be gf hotel in Makati.

My date got stopped (asking questions, room, I'd etc.) in the morning (7 am) when exiting the hotel.

Anyone had similar issues?

Funny thing was, she was not stopped coming in alone at 1 AM.

They use the new skyway into Makati that is against the rush hour traffic that is all going the other way.
I had an easy run and very few delays.

WR is right about poor infrastructure and most roads being clogged but I think the run to Makati using the highway that connects with Arnaiz Ave (Pasay Road) will get you into Greenbelt inside 30 mins. For 3 free nights it's a no-brainer. Just get a hotel car with the $$$ you have saved and ask the driver to go the quickest route.

Or so it seems!)

RK and WR, as always thanks for the advice. Yes, I do plan to hire a car. I arrive at 9:20pm (new Darwin-Manila flight) and booked a hotel car to pick me up at the airport. I will tell the driver to wait, as I'll head upstairs, shower and head right back out. It's been over three years for me, and I'm pretty excited to be back in Makati.

YES IT IS! To the extend when you get stuck in an elevator with a girl and after 10 min wait you say fuck it and start taking her clothes off and then the elevator is restarted and takes you to the ground floor. While being half dressed and the girl scrambling to hide her naught bits the door opens and the bell boy just hands me the new card and says have a good night. I think I wrote about it here somewhere.

Overall location is not bad but you will have to walk 10 min to greenbelt and will have to catch taxi to anything worth seeing. Price is, well not cheap for manila. They don't service the apartments on Sunday. Pool is shit. Restaurants and cafe outside is ok. Internet was good but don't think they had wifi. Master bedroom is superior to the other if you are sheering with a wing men you will fight for the bedroom. The place also has lots of diplomats and rich philipinos staying so you may feel kind of out of place.

LOL, did I mention I got stuck in the elevator. This after watching The Devil (movie about people being stuck in an elevator) few hours before that. The damn thing just took my key and took me for a joy ride before lights went out. Good thing my mobile phone worked inside the elevator so I called reception. Overall I would NOT recommend or repeat but it is a GIRL FRIENDLY place.

One more thing. Taxi drivers don't know the place so you will need to tell them to take you behind the PACIFIC STAR BUILDING or next to CITI BANK otherwise good luck to you. Perhaps 1 of every 10 taxi drivers knew the location and we talking Makati taxi drivers here.

My suggestion, give it a miss and look into better places around the area.

Haha, I had too laugh hard really HARD reading your story! Especially on the elevator part. Wow, but I salute your creativity for being stuck in the elevator and finding 'something else' to do with the girl that was with you. Ok, will reconsider, and see if they can at least make me an (price) offer that I can't refuse.

Great advice, always good to have a wingman, but this time, I'll be all by myself.

Take care,

Recently had the pleasure of staying here. Recommended! Although the rooms could be sexed up a little, the hotel met my needs. Good food. Mostly ate here rather than hunt for restuarants, I supose this speaks volumns for the Southeren Cross.

Wifi was adequate. Location is excellent, all your clubs and bars are walkable within several minutes. Shall stay here in future. Staff were all very pretty, hehe, and above all, helpful and efficient. Big thumbs up!

VogelWhether you'll enjoy a stay at Fraser's Makati will depend on your understanding (and liking of) what you are trading in compared to the other accommodation options in a similar price range, notably the luxury hotels Mandarin, Peninsula and Shangri-La.

What you are essentially getting is space, vast space. The 2 or 3 BR apartments are larger than almost all of the top hotel suites, between 215 and 280 sqm, at a price usually a little higher than an executive floor hotel room and significantly lower than two of those rooms.

Quite a few long staying guests try out Fraser after being stuck for whatever reason in the smaller hotel rooms for weeks or months. A lot of those choose a hotel again though next time once they realize that it's really an apartment and lacks most of the hotel services they might be used to.

Last time I checked it out was about 2 years ago. The apartments looked more worn out than I liked, but then most places in Manila do, LOL. They may be renovated or refurbished by now, back then they didn't have the flat screen TVs yet that they show on the website and I remember the style quite a little differently.

The fact that you trade a lot of service for a lot of space will hardly have changed though.

It's girl-friendly like almost every other place in Manila but I suspect some of the long-staying people sticking with Fraser do so for even more privacy ironically. It's one thing hotel policy ignoring your adventures but another thing the regular staff seeing you do your thing for six months straight. Less personal care and service may be preferred by some, haha.

Staying in St Giles, which seems to be very good value for money. Clean and seems quite new. Not huge or extravagant rooms, but nothing to complain about.

The reason the hotels are full, as explained by my taxi driver, is that this is graduation time, so a lot of family comes to Manila to take part.

it is some times hard to tell how nice something is from the pics, so it is advisable to look at several while in manila or have someone already there view them for you. the problem is the nice ones get booked months in advance.

good luck

Can I assume that any hotel within that area would be GF?

Place is GF.

Last time I was there was 6 mths ago and still smelled on fresh paint, kind of like a hospital. You have a VERY small bed room, with a safe in it (big plus) , and a VERY small kitchen / dinning area with a couch and a tv as well. It sort of feels like a box within a box the smaller box being the bedroom LOL. Not a bad place, security is ok for the price you pay, few ok restaurants around plus a lounge club of some sort as well right next to it (didn't get a chance to check it out there was a red carpet event that night). Few min walk to burgos, just across the Road from St giles. I prefer Makati Palace or Oxford Suites which you will get for less, I find their bigger rooms less depressing even though those hotels lack many other things plus you are on burgos. If you intend to have another girl crushing on the couch then yes A Venue is a good option in the area, other then that I would pass. Hm, I guess it comes down to space, if you found st giles comfortable then think of this similar space but lot more run down with facilities (kitchen and eating area) that you probably will not need.

The formerly called L. A. Cafe. What are some clean, modern hotels there that are not above 2500 pesos near there? Or is that a contradiction? LOL. I can't see paying 4000 pesos and up in the Philippines.

And what areas / cities / bars would you recommend for bars with really good looking girls, maybe even caucasian ones from Russia, etc How about 2500 or so peso hotels in those areas?

Is Ermita a road or a city?

Is Ermita a road or a city? Ermita is a subdivision of the city of Manila. Just go to any websites for hotels. I like asiatravel. Com. All prices are listed there. LA cafe or recently known as Manila Bay cafe is in ermita but it is just a pick up bar only. No rooms.

Girls go with you for ST between 500-1000 Pesos. LT is 1000-2000 pesos. Really good looking girls will cost between 6000-8000 pesos. They are mostly in Makati bars, KTV, Some in EDSA.

There are many cheap but decent hotels in Ermita. Just do research. All hotels in Manila are GF except some real high end hotels but if the girl is dressed nicely they will not bother.

LA cafe or recently known as Manila Bay cafe is in ermita but it is just a pick up bar only. No rooms.Another good website is agoda.com. Since I'm currently booking I just visited asiatravel.com and agoda to compare listings. Agoda has 153 for Metro Manila compared to 142 for asiatravel. For the Ermita area I compared four hotels that are easily in the <2500 pesos range. Agoda was consistently 5 to 7 USD cheaper per night. If you have time to search, it's worth checking out both sites because each has some listings not carried by the other.

Both sites permit you to search by region within metro Manila. Manila Bay Cafe (MBC), the former La Cafe, is physically in Ermita, but a number of hotels in the northern part of Malate are competitively priced and within easy walking distance of MBC. To get a feel for the area near MBC you can go to agoda's site for Manila and look down the lower left side to filter for the Ermita region only. Then scroll through the choices until you find Boulevard Mansion. In the front page information for Boulevard Mansion click on the option that lets you see it on a map. Most on this forum will not highly recommend this hotel, but it is only about a block from MBC. MBC is just to the east on M. H. Del Pilar at the corner of Romero Salas.

The point for looking at this is that the map will show you other nearby hotels (in a different color), and you can gauge for yourself how far you're willing to walk to get to MBC. This particular map includes most of Ermita and a little bit of Malate. From this map you can check out all the nearby hotels for price and features.

One Ermita hotel that is on neither of these websites is the Southern Cross. Others have commented on it recently in this thread. The Southern Cross has its own website. Another that may not be on either site is Cherry Blossoms. They also have their own website.

Yes Agoda is good but just watch they put a per night fee on your room at the end which isn't disclosed until you get to the end of the transaction so whilst the daily rate is better than the others it sometimes exceeds the others when the fee is added. I generally find Agoda is best for Thailand but have found it varies with the other for Philippines. What is good with Agoda is the loyalty program which they have honoured each time I have sought to use it. I also find that the reviews about the hotels are generally accurate. Tripadvisor is owned by Expedia and so I am sceptical about some of their reviews and about their rating system.

Happy Easter,

I have never seen sign of any likely prospects nor have I ever been approached anywhere. Unlike in Makati and especially Malate.

Robinsons Galleria in Ortigas is my local mall for supermarket etc.

It is NOTHING like Robinsons Place in Malate.

You are closer to the Quezon Ave bars than if you were in Makati but my suggestion is you grab a cab and head to Burgos or EDSA Complex or Cafe Havana rather than waste time looking in Ortigas.

Thanks for the report. Any recommendation on a Quezon Ave bar? I lived in Makati for a year in '98 and know Burgos well. Same too for EDSA complex. In the day there was a very good nightclub called Vixens that was on Roxas and Buendia. I preferred this place to Burgos. In 2001 I visited again and it was called Axions. A friend of mine dropped into Manila for a night and told me he was staying at the Durban.

I had no idea where it was but a quick google search showed it as in Durban Street which runs between Makati Ave and Polaris street (crosses Burgos at the Oxford Suites corner). It is not far down Durban Street on the same side as Oxford.

I checked it out.

It seems to have gone under the radar here on ISG although bopalula posted a positive review of it on here a while ago.

Just 100 meters from Burgos; recently refurbished room as well as bathroom, good air-con, Queen size bed, free wi-fi in all rooms and new flat-screen cable TV.

Executive room 1300 php all inclusive (tax etc)

Big Room 1400 php.

Deluxe 1700 php (but check it is not twin beds).

It might be an option for someone looking for a good, clean and cheap g / f hotel close to Burgos.

I have never had a problem with them except one time at executive hotel. On checking in they tried to upsell me saying the room which was booked was not available. Quick call to asiatravel solved the problem. They even gave me a discount and booked me at Palm plaza which is around the corner.

24h apartment hotel.

Well arrived at my hotel a little after midnite on the morning of the 26th.

Upon arrival I thought "oh my what have I done". Because at night it looked to be in the middle of nowhere, with nothing around. The room was large, which is why I chose. Room was clean although still dated, (tile everywhere) I did have a window on 6th floor. Good size bathroom and hot water. I had a couple of beers and talked to the security guard. He says massage is available, and there are about 4 or 5 girls that work till 1 in the morning. Available for 300 pesos.

When I woke in the morning everything looked a little better. There is free breakfast on 7th floor, where there is also a pool. Free Wifi in my room works good. Taxis and tricycles everywhere. So not hard to get where you need.

Example: Dia pal showed and 80 peso taxi to Glorietta Mall.

I guess you haven't travelled much Kork.

Many hotels have this card-operated in-room electricity switch.

Seasoned travellers (like me) carry several expired plastic cards that you can use in the slot. I also find that my business card (calling card) works too. Sometimes all sorts of things jammed in the slot will work.
Be creative.
You can even ask reception to give you an extra card which they are obliged to do if you have booked double (which I usually do to avoid any issues with overnight guests)

Ofcourse any card will activate the electricity. Problem is when the maid comes in to clean she will remove the card. Trick is either leave the room after the maid has cleaned or tip the maid and tell her to leave the card in there.

I have encountered hotels in the US and Korea with this sort of setup as well. I have always found that a simple piece of cardboard (off the back of a notepad) , or any thick paper folded to the shape of the key will work to keep the power on. This is an attempt on the part of the hotels to save money on electricity, after charging excessive fees to the occupants. The way I see it, for the amount most places charge, I can leave all the lights, Air conditioner / heater, TV and radio on 24/7 if I want.

The smart ones often see my computer set up and they assume I am coming back to work.

I have on occasion just said to the maid or houseboy in passing to please leave my air/con and computer running and they don't seem to have a problem with that. No tip needed.

I have stayed at Bayview Hotel across from US Embassy several times and walking distance or short cab to LA Cafe. Also City garden which is clean and nice.

In Makati you could also try the City garden property there.

http://www.bayviewparkhotel.com/

http://www.citygardenhotels.com/makati/

Honestly a lot of the same girls in Makati will do the circuit into Manila Cafe or even Angeles. Two of the best looking girls I have ever met here, I met in Amazonia bar. A teacher and nurse who were sisters looking for air fare home to Davao. The girls are every where just keep your eyes open. Timing is everything.

For new sheets you need to place the card like thing on the bed and throw all the towels on the floor. If you leave the towels on the hangar or forget to put place the card you are out of luck. They say this is done in order to save the earth. I am not so sure. As for me I like clean sheets and clean towels every day.

I have found that you need to place the card on the pillow if you DON"T want them to make up the bed. I was in Waterfront Hotel in Cebu last week and that was the MO. I have NEVER seen the reverse happen in any hotel I have stayed in. If I don't put the card on the pillow they automatically make up the bed with new sheets.

I agree with the towel factor though. Fresh towels are essential for me too. I always throw them on the floor

Gentlemen,

I have just taken a room at the Linden Suites.

Super deals.

I have a one bedroom suite, through Agoda, for far less than the standard room.

I have no idea how long this is available.

Today is Sat 30 Apr, and I booked this morning, for 2 nights.

Is Ermita a road or a city? My preferred hotel of choice when staying in Ermita is a small Australian hotel called The Duck Inn. Nothing fancy here, but the hotel is well appointed, quite clean, and even has a resto / bar. A standard room costs p1, 300 / nt.

The hotel is just a 3 minute walk from MBC and 5 minutes from G-Point; plus, if you are going on to A. C, The Swagman Hotel (Fly The Bus) is perhaps a 2 minute walk from The Duck Inn.

Ermita is a one of the various districts in Manila.

When you say Hotel Durban, do you mean Durban St Inn? If it's Durban Street Inn, I've been there and it's good value. The problem I have with it is that even if you book a reservation, they will let someone else extend their stay and not honor your reservation request. It's not a good feeling to find out by text or as you arrive at the place to find out they didn't honor your reservation. I was shocked to get a text from them while waiting for a domestic flight to Manila that they were fully booked after I reserved the room a few days prior no problem and in person. They are very hard to get a room with as it's popular with people trying to stay in Makati at a lower price. It's a nice place for the money, just kind of crappy reservation policy. I'd rather just walk up to them and see if they have a room when you need it, and take it then if you have the time luxury, rather than come in on a late night flight and then be shown the door.

I have just had a second stay at the Linden Suites in Ortigas.

Super deals on their one bedroom suites.

I got one for $85 through Agoda, but I just saw the same for $75 through Tiger Airlines. Includes breakfast, kitchen, safe, Stereo player, flat screen, full sized ref, pool. However, internet is not free.

Worth considering.

Southern Cross recently failed to hold a reservation for me. I had an email confirmation from one of their employees assuring they'd hold a room for me for my first night in Manila on my current trip. I'd told them my arrival at the airport was late and not to expect me until 11 or 11:30. When I got there, the night employees had no reservation showing for me and the hotel was full. They went and got a tall, elderly Aussie from out of the bar. Maybe the owner? He had them check their emails and, sure enough, they found their outgoing email to me. So he instructed them to take me around the corner to a new place, Hotel Manila.

At this point I would not recommend Hotel Manila (not to be confused with classic old Manila Hotel). They'd been open only ten days when I showed up. They're located on Guererro Street, between Roxas and del Pilar, right along the park in front of the Ermita Church. At 2500 Php they were about 800 to 1000 more than the Southern Cross. No elevator yet. Room was comfortable but small. Aircon was inadequate. Only hot water is a spot heater in the shower, so shaving is with cold water only. Sink was tiny with a very small shelf for toiletries. A fairly thick and comfortable foam mattress. They claimed to have free WiFi, but I didn't try it. They appear to be trying to build a bar and maybe an eatery on the ground floor. They are not set up for credit cards, but they claim they will in the near future. So they are not going to succeed unless they quickly upgrade their capabilities.

As to Southern Cross' failure to honor my reservation, I chalk it up to human error. But I do think there's a lesson here: if you want to be sure about a reservation, do business through Agoda or AsiaTravel, or another online room broker. It seems like getting hooked into those international booking services implies a level of sophistication (or perhaps the online services cut them off if they do not perform) that makes it more likely they know what they're doing. The hotels that are less sophisticated and do their reservervations through email or their own websites are perhaps the ones that are more likely to screw up reservations.

Before with Executive Plaza, if I was with a woman and walked her in, they never bothered to get her I'd. Mid May, that was the same deal. By the end of May, they changed their policy and started taking IDs even if escorted in. Nothing happened between me and anyone in the hotel or a woman prior to that, so I'm thinking an event took place there and they changed their policy.

I'm arriving early in the morning, like 4am, and I'm looking for a place to crash. Would be nice if it also had girls. Basically, are there places that function as real hotels (I. E, you can stay in the room for 12-24 hours) and also have girls?

I was thinking the Palacio Don Pedro Hotel in Makati (still open) might be an example, but just because it's called a hotel doesn't necessarily mean it functions as one?

SOhotel (The hotel can be booked for 3, 6,12 or 24 hours. About 600-1600 PHP) or SOHO Hotel, both 60 Pesos by Taxi from Manila Bay Cafe (MBC) where you can get a girl 24 hours a day (Short time 1000-2000 PHP, depending on the quality of the girl and your negotiation skills, but overall quality is not very high in terms of looks and age).
I have a friend who flies from Hong Kong to Manila in the evening, gets a couple of shorttimers from Manila Bay Cafe and flies back to HK the next morning. Always using one of these 2 short time hotels.

SOGO has reasonable rooms very good for short time (3 hours) or to crash in for a day. Prices are as Tiger said depending on the sort of room you want. Basic standard room is 310 php for 3 hours; superior rooms are 800 php for 5 hours and so on. The best thing about it is you just pay upfront and then don't have all the mucking around getting bills etc when you want to leave.

SOHOtel is a drive-in short time place with taxi rooms etc, much like a traditional concealed garage-type place in most countries. Costs are higher and I don't use any more.

The hotel is advertising 1800 peso per nite on their billboard. I booked a good while ago online and all in I paid 56 dollars taxes and fees included per night. The hotel is older but clean, staff is very good. The more I stay the more I like it. With bedroom and small kitchen seperate. Has fridge and microwave.

Thanks a lot in advance for help, all of you can expect some nice photos after my tripHeritage hotel is touted as 5 stars but that was long time ago. The hotel is aged and shows. However the food is good. There are good buffet and other restaurents.

They had a dance club with hostesses but do not know if they still have. No, these girls are for dancing there only.

Acrss EDSA but you need to walk all the way to overpass in order to cross the street. The hotel is GF but the girls told me if they left in the middle of the night the security guards stop them and ask for a bribe money to let them out. If you escort them out it is ok.

Only reason to stay there is if you fancy EDSA. Otherwise there are nice cheaper hotels in malate where MBC is.

Hi, could some please update me about some decent gf hotels USD 50 to 70 range within 5 min walking distance fm MBC, thanks a lot for help. TMTHere is my recommendation to find what you want. Use the agoda.com website and go to Philippines and then Manila. Once the website settles into its list of 200+ Manila hotels look in the lower left corner to further limit the search to the Ermita region. MBC is in Ermita at the corner of M. H. Del Pilar and Romero-Salas. It will not show in Agoda's maps, but within the Ermita listings select Boulevard Mansion Hotel and then click on the tab to locate it on a map. Boulevard Mansion is recommended for being one block from MBC, but has little else to recommend it. But because Boulevard Mansion is so close to MBC, its map will show you every other hotel nearby. If you choose a hotel in the area bounded by Manila Bay on the West, General Malavar on the South, Adriatico on the East, and U. N. Avenue on the North, you will be within 5 to 10 minutes walking distance from MBC. Two others within walking distance but just East of Adriatico are Eurotel on Pedro Gil and Cherry Blossoms. Agoda does not list Cherry Blossoms, but they have their own website. A few of the nearby hotels are actually in Malate, which begins on the south side of Pedro Gil, but those that are nearby will show up in the map that pops up from Boulevard Mansion. Virtually any lodging in Metro Manila that has hotel in its name will be girl friendly, and with few exceptions the price for two is the same as for one occupant. Figure on adding about $6 to $8 Value Added Tax per night to the listed Agoda price.

Mixed reports. I'm seeing a lot of mixed reports for many of the hotels in the manila makati area. Does anyone have a high end hotel they like that you can't go wrong with? If I'm going to spend 80-100 for a hotel I might as well spend 150-200 at that point. It seems that most the hotels are within 5 miles of EDSA area. Also anyone know anything about buses going from manila to angeles city? Is this like school bus type or nice bus with a bathroom?

If I'm going to spend 80-100 for a hotel I might as well spend 150-200 at that point. The most expensive high end hotel in Makati is the Shangri-la Makati which usually rents out for $260/night and higher. Forgetaboutit unless it is on your company expense account.

Last Feb, I stayed at and can recommend the New World Makati, a former Marriott Renaissance hotel. I liked the room, the big swimming pool, the large and diverse buffet breakfasts and the location right across the street from Greenbelt 3 and Havana Cafe. I got a great rate from Expedia ($85/night) for a deluxe room. That said, I think the New World, the Icon, and the Dusit are roughly equivalent so it is a question of which hotel offers me the best deal when I plan to return to Makati in October. Right now on Expedia, 3.5 months out from my trip, the big three are asking around $120 / night. That price will come down as my trip date nears. I plan to spend less than $100/night for one of these 4. 5 star Makati hotels.

P. S. I just noticed that for an August reservation the Shangri-la Makati is asking $215/night for a 14 day advance purchase deluxe room. That is still too high for me, but it is an example of how these hotels discount their rates as the arrival date nears. Search all the travel sites and check out the hotel websites as well. Don't pull the trigger until a good deal turns up. It always does.

The most expensive high end hotel in Makati is the Shangri-la Makati which usually rents out for $260 / night and higher.

I got a great rate from Expedia ($85 / night) for a deluxe room. I stayed at the St. Giles a few weeks ago and paid US$82 / nite which included breakfast and all taxes. The St. Giles gets good reviews here and I enjoyed it a lot. The rooms are smallish but not too small. In room safe, LCD TV, and modern furnishings are included. Restaurants nearby. 2 min. Walk to Burgos Street. You do have an alternative if you don't want to step up to New World or the other high end stuff. I would recommend St. Giles highly and I'm picky about hotels. Save your money for other things.

Diamond Hotel on Roxas Blvd. Excellent hotel. I stay there frequently. Walk out the door, turn left, go to the corner and turn left again. Walk 3 minutes and MBC is on your right. Book through agoda.com. The closer to your arrival date, the more the prices drop. And security is excellent.

But the reviews on Boulevard mansion hotel is not that good on agoda, could you please suggest some other better hotels near mbc with in 5 min walk. TMT.You did not read carefully. I did not recommend Boulevard Mansion. I suggested using the link to Boulevard Mansion in Agoda. Agoda provides a tab in its information about each hotel that gives you a map of where the hotel is located. When you open the map in the Boulevard Mansion listing it also shows you all the other hotels in the area that are listed in Agoda. The reason to use the map for Boulevard Mansion is that it is closest to MBC and so the hotels in that map will be the hotels you want to consider. Any of the lodgings that have hotel in their name and are in your price range will be girl friendly.

Walk 3 minutes and MBC is on your right.I believe MBC would be on the left as you are walking North on del Pilar, but it doesn't matter, because it's all lit up and can't be missed. Be prepared to walk past beggars and touts offering viagra, belt buckles, coins, wallets, taxis, and money exchange in order to get to the door.

ThanksIt probably is a roach motel. I guess it is all dependant on your point of view. When I walk thru it on the way to the massage it does not seem that bad. Also, the rooms that they use for massage are not that bad also. Large and mostly modern. Address is 914 Arnaiz Ave (Arnaiz turns into Pasay Road near there, Pasay Road is better known than Arnaiz). It is right across from Greenbelt. I would describe this as the backside of Greenbelt since it is the side no one ever goes to.

If you are looking for a cheap hotel in Makait I can recommend the St Giles, Antel Suites or A Venue and the new one is Antel Spa. All of these would be 3. 5 or 4 star.

please suggest some other better hotels near mbc with in 5 min walk. TMT.Okay, I'm bored, so here goes:

All the following I have either used or read reports in this forum that suggest they are girl friendly; all are roughly in the $50-70 per night price range, are within 5 to 10 minutes walking from MBC, and all can be found at agoda. Com:

City State Tower Hotel.

Cherry Blossoms Hotel (only a two-star but passable and has a decent restaurant; some rooms are two twin beds)

Lotus Garden Hotel.

City Garden Suites.

Bayview Park Hotel (nice place, but somebody reported they will hassle over more than one girl in the room)

Best Western Corona Hotel (but closed for renovation until November)

Diamond Hotel (rated at 5 stars; can't confirm, but somebody else commented favorably)

Pearl Garden (rated 2 stars, but priced like higher rating; good location)

M Hotel Manila (I stayed there recently; not recommended)

Eurotel Pedro Gil (rated 2 stars; small rooms, no fridge, but clean, free breakfast, free WiFi when it works, right across from mall entrance)

Rothman Hotel (not fancy, but 3 stars, and rooms have fridges)

Boulevard Mansion (people complain of cleanliness but rooms are big, all have fridge or kitchen, view of Manila Bay, and one block to MBC)

Las Palmas, Palm Plaza, Executive Plaza, Riviera Mansion Hotel (all are 3 stars; they have common ownership and common restaurant and billiards area; I've used Palm Plaza and Executive Plaza and find them okay; sometimes include breakfast)

Swagman Hotel (rated 1 star, and monger reports have been mixed, including a recent report from one unhappy monger)

The following are shown on Agoda and meet your requirements, but I have no knowledge of them; maybe somebody else can report:

Rosas Garden Hotel.

Miramar Hotel.

Gran Prix Manila Hotel

The following are independent, girl-friendly, good location, and inexpensive, but not listed on agoda and other lodging sites. They have their own websites. This may be a problem in terms of reliability of reservation systems:

Southern Cross Hotel (Aussie owner, inexpensive, thin walls, tiny elevator, decent bar and restaurant, screwed up a reservation for me, but another time did okay)

Duck Inn (not well known, close to MBC, somebody writing in the Manila thread in May had a good experience there)

For all prices on agoda and other lodging system websites add about 12% value added tax to the stated price. I excluded several hotels-Hyatt, Pan Pacific-that meet your GF and location requirements but are priced well above your price range.

Somebody advised waiting until a week or two before your travel to reserve the hotel. Good advice, I think. Prices seem to come down when some places have empty rooms they want to unload.

Yes I have stayed at Diamond twice and both times found it to be excellent though owned by and geared to the Japanese customer. It is a true five star hotel which unless on a true special would not be in the $50-$70 range.

I have just stayed at H2O at Ocean Park for the past week both in a bay view room which have floor to ceiling views and in an aquarium room. Service is good, great hotel gym and generally the place looks great and impresses the women. On the bad side a) very thin walls (mentioned by someone in a previous post b) design faults with the bathroom in the bay view no separation between shower and toilet so everything always wet and in the aquarium room there was a separation but it leaked everywhere c) cabs difficult to get. Most times had to walk the the parking area in front of the grandstand which is not pleasant with the current wet season. When the cab drops you at the hotel there is a long uncovered walk to enter the building.

To cut it short, I would not stay there again unless I wanted to impress in the aquarium room which really is somthing or taking kids to ocean park or adjoining shows. You can google the hotel and see photos.

One hotel you didn't mention is G Hotel which on a special gets into that price range. Small boutique hotel 4 star and in my opinion worth good consideration.

ThanksI have seen hotels with adjoining rooms but if I understand your question correctly, I don't know if you will get 2 bedrooms or adjoining rooms for under $150. 00. There are however, condos in and around the area where I am certain you can find something for less than $150. 00. Baywatch Tower and its sister, LeMirage are both located in south Malate near the zoo and Harrison Mall. Both have two bedroom units available. They are about a 100 peso taxi ride to Ermita. I can recommend Baywatch from my personal experience. It comes with pool, sauna and 24 hour security and is girl friendly. They have their own website. I'm 99% certain you can find other condos even closer to Ermita. Just google "manila vacation rental" and you will find many condos available.

Le Mirage has 2-bedroom suites for just over $100 per night. I like that it is centrally located between EDSA and Ermita which are the two main things I wanted to check out. (or is there anything else one should not miss while in Manilla?) The only thing I do not like is that they want you to pre-pay on their website. Would it be rediculous to assume one may be better of to just show up without a booking so I can pay cash? Or would they usually jump the prices without a booking? I've had good luck with this strategy in Thailand and other parts of the world, actually I think usually I find better deals in person, but like I said I've never been to Manilla.

tmti don't know the specifics for riviera mansion, perhaps somebody else will report on it. but i took two to las palmas, two doors down and under the same ownership, and there was no problem. the doorman asked both girls to leave i'd with him at his stand. (by the way, ask the woman to show you i'd before you leave the mongering haunt. this helps avoid **** problems or awkward scenes at the hotel door.) at all but a few hotels the cost for two occupants is the same as for one, and technically they could charge for an extra guest. most do not. the bigger issue than charging for the extra guest is that the hotel is concerned about these women stealing from you. so they often take ids at the door so the woman has to check out with them. in many hotels they will call back to your room to make sure the woman did not sneak out with some of your stuff. i always made a point to walk the woman back to the outside door, as a gesture of consideration to the woman and to avoid her getting into a hassle with the doorman. most doormen are good joes and deserve a tip, but a few are exploitive, holding up departing p4p women for bribes, extracting bribes from taxi drivers for the benefit of transporting foreign passengers, etc.

three strategies for handling doormen regarding bringing women back: 1) if they object to a second woman, tell them "oh, this one is only visiting for a little while. she'll be leaving soon." many hotels have a published policy that extra guests can stay 60 minutes, or something like that. it puts them in a difficult situation to then go to your room, knock on the door and insist that she leave after 60 minutes. and doormen forget these things, a different doorman comes on shift, and nobody remembers that you've got an extra guest.

2) tip the doorman in advance. keep in mind that they have shift changes, so you want to find an excuse to tip the guy who will be there when you bring the ladies back. if he holds the door for you when you head out to your mongering haunt, give him 20 or 40 pesos, assuming one of the three-star monger hotels in ermita. he'll think you're a good guy and treat you well in future, thinking there are more tips to come. when you come in with two women, if a doorman asks for ids or in any way calls you or the women over to his stand, tip him immediately before he lays out his concern. 50 pesos is appropriate here for the three-star monger hotels, more if you sense problems are brewing.

3) if 1 and 2 don't work, just pay for the extra guest. if you can afford to fly to the philippines to monger, you can afford the relatively small price for an extra guest. go to the hotel website in advance so you know how much to expect. it's not a big deal.

I haven't sifted through much of the advice on here, but after working in Manila for almost a month, here is what I've learned about hotels. Keep in mind that I'm a younger guy who hates paying more than 2000 / night, so I just don't go to places that cost that much.

-Any free girl worth having will not be too prissy about the hotel selection. (I'm talking about middle class girls, etc. ; the nastier, poorer girls are happy to be under any sort of roof, probably.)

-Agoda is almost always a better deal than walking up to the reception and paying there. The hotels I mention here were all booked on Agoda.

-In Ermita, Casa Bocobo (Bocobo cor. Kalaw) is nice enough in the budget range, and can have decent food, but the breakfast is odd at best.

-If you want a proper hotel in Ermita, the Best Western La Corona can be had for less than 3k / night and its upscale rooms are nice. If there is no Agoda availability, I vaguely remember the walk-up rates not being too egregious.

-In Malate, the Rothman is a little better than the other cheap hotels in that neighborhood.

-In Burgos, the Clipper Hotel (Kalayaan cor. Burgos, in a back alley) is brilliant. It has beautiful parquet wood floors and was actually designed by someone with good taste, which is so odd in the Philippines. It is truly a great place. The walk-up prices are just a little more than prices on Agoda, and it doesn't have Agoda availability very often. The only drawbacks are an odd no-smoking policy and a crappy upcharge for more than 1 guest, but sometimes they don't enforce these policies.

-Every now and then, a <US$50 / night price can be had on Agoda for the St. Giles in Burgos. Rooms are small but it's a competent full-service hotel, and probably much more pleasant than the Oxford Suites et al.

-The Rosal Hotel, a motel near the Victoria Court in the lane extending from the Shaw / EDSA intersection in Pasig, is a fine motel. I usually hate motels.

-I don't see why Victoria Courts and Eurotels are supposed to be any better than Sogos or other crappy motel variants. They all have a certain filth in their atmosphere, and you have to do whatever you're doing on those horrendous rubber mattresses.

-If you really want to have a first-class hotel room, the Mandarin is often offered on Agoda at very competitive rates, but still over US$100 of course.

I did search for this hotel and found only positive feedback. My motivation to use it was late arrival from Bangkok and Southern Cross shuttle next day to Angeles City. So experience does not cover location or such benefits. My positives are:

+ price.

+ mini bar.

+ safety box.

+ bar with kitchen.

+ 7/11 next door.

+ Shuttle bus connection. I am frequent happy user for it.

Negatives:

- expensive air port pickup (600PHP)

- conflicting pickup location in airport. Email said wait driver T3 Bay 7. Driver and hotel room instruction said driver is waiting with a name sign in terminal. Lost 30 mins time.

- very LOUD Air Con.

- LOUD street noise.

Luckily I had ear plugs and for my experience those are needed unless you drink yourself into coma state.

TMTI had a stopover in Manila and stayed here for one night about three months ago. Hotel is ok and that is generous, rooms have a large kitchen area and a sofa, TV with about 10 local channels but wireless internet is not free. Guest check-in is with the security guards at the front entrance of the hotel so you can probably negotiate taking multiple girls to your room with a tip of some sort. Best part for me was there were several Touts in the area offering girls and since I did not have much time to go out and find a girl, this helped. Picked this girl out of three that were in the back seat of a car for 1600P in front of the hotel. A looker, she wasn't but her suction was very good and she was not shy. Lots of action across the street in the Hyatt Casino or just by walking outside the hotel.

In other words I was not kicked at 10am same morning like all the other hotels in this world.

Use agoda to reserve for cheaper rate of $32.

Free breakfast too. GF and GFE allowed in the nice rooms.

I think this is the best deal in town.

Not far by taxi from the good part of Makati (ie MBC and similar) and 7 blocks from the supermarket / KFC / Macdonalds by walking.

on del pilar, near faura. made reservation here based on a recommendation here.

+ if you like gritty, this is the neighborhood. few doors down is a barfine place called 'hussy's (how appropriate). p1500 for lt. half a dozen so-so girls.

+ price. i booked the standard room, p1300. larger room is 1400.

+ free wifi is excellent. a speed test showed downloads at 3mpbs, up at 500k.

+ restraunt / bar on ground floor is good, with pool tables.

+ easy walking to g point and mbc and robinson's.

+ laundry, barber within few blocks.

+ in-room safety box. this can be a real plus, but its one of those small ones, you can put your passport / wallet in it, but not your laptop.

- hard to find. the emails from reservations don't have the hotel's address or phone number in the signature. the airport taxi driver had trouble finding it. i thought it was on adriatico. we stopped and asked several people locally, including close on del pilar, who had never heard of it. finally the door guy from city garden (who recognized me) told us where it was. p250 damage for the afternoon airport metered taxi.

- standard room is sooooooooooooooo small! bed is a real queen-size, and there is a small 2'x2' wooden table / chair for your laptop, but that leaves no room to maneuver in the room.

- standard rooms on third floor. no elevator. stairwell is steep, stairs don't have the depth for my foot, and there are switchbacks. its hot in the stairwell. long climb up and down. unfortunately i don't hang in my room a lot, i'm in / out of hotels during the day. yuck.

- air con didn't work. the door guy turned it on with the remote and showed me how to use the remote. i couldn't feel any air coming out of it (not even hot air) , nor could i hear a motor turning a fan. he walked out. the room was burning up. a minute later i called him back and told him it wasnt working. he looked at it (its near the cieling, above the bed) and said,"yes it is." i put my hand up to it: nothing. he put his hand up to hit: nothing. there was sweat drizzling down his forehead (and mine now)."is it to hot here sir?" omg."yes, i want ice forming on my testicles please." easily it was 90-92 degrees f in the room. he said he would have the engineer check it out. i popped my stuff in the safe and left for the mall. no kidding, i walked into robinson's on faura, walked the length to the pedro gil side (1-2 minutes) and was walking out thru the national bookstore, intending to walk over to tropicana apartments and transfer there, when a cutie hit me up."hi sir, where you going?" lovely smile. right away i was being eaten by a shark. nice! i love malate.

we had a tea at starbucks, she told me her hard luck story. i told her i was waiting for my aircon to be fixed, so we sat outside at starbucks for 30 minutes chatting, then went back to duck. the door guy came up to the room and showed me the now (barely) working aircon. cool air was now barely falling out of the aircon unit as we held our hands to it. i asked him to turn the fan up."it is sir. all the way." it would take 5 more hours to cool the room to a more comfy 80f. doorman gone, the girl showered and came out with a towel. i asked what she was willing to do, and for how much."any you want. but i can stay 3 hours only. 2500." i countered with all i want, including pics. 3 hours p800, just to see what she'd say. the look of horror came over her."but my momma needs blah blah blah." have a good day then hun, not interest. then, out of the blue, she mentioned something previously unmentioned: a mamasan in the mall."she take from me 300 from the 800. now i will have a 500 only." a mamasan in robinson's? i stuck to my guns on the price, and she skulked on the bed. i didn't care if she left, i'd just arrived and was a bit tired. finally she capitulated and we got down to biz. some posed pics, then some bj. i didn't last long, her technique was good, and i shot off without warning. she wasn't happy with the lack of warning, but whattayagonnado? we started with me standing by the bed (and ended that way) and her sitting at the edge of the bed. we were both sweating from the hot (tiny, claustrophobic) room. being finished, she ran into the bathroom to spit."mouthwash?" sorry hun, haven't had time to shop in the mall because you waylaid me.

she started to dress to leave. i mentioned 3 hours. she said she wanted to go. i said i would prorate the 800 down. she sat down on the bed and started taking her clothes back off, then she jumped right back up, half naked, and squealed. right there on the bedsheets were poo streaks. fresh ones. ick! her shower apparently had not been complete! crap (literally). sh*t happens (sorry)? i told her that if there was a charge from the cleaning of the sheets, she had to pay for that."ok." i told her i would give her the 300 for her mama, we could exchange phone numbers, and i would keep 500 until we found out if there's a charge. if not, i'd txt her and get her the money. she refused my offer, folded her arms, and said,"you pay me." at that moment, there was a knock on the door. i told her to put her top on so i could answer the door."you pay me now." soooooo, i opened the door. it was the front desk girl, handing me the password to the hotel wifi. the girl on the bed squealed again and pushed her arms to cover herself. the desk gal said,"problem sir?" i said yes, could she get security up here, the guest was unpleasant, and had made a mess on the bed. right away the girl on the bed tossed on her top and shoes and stood up. i thanked the front desk girl and closed the door. i handed the mall rat 300, we exchanged phone numbers, and i walked her out to the street. 10 minutes later i get a txt from her asking when i can pay her. told her i would pay her tomorrow when i knew there was no charge for the sheets (which i will do). the desk girl sent up housekeeping to change the sheets.

this pretty much concludes my "first-2-hours-at-duck-inn" report. can't wait to see what happens in the evening! later i would go back to robinson's looking to chat her and her mamasan, but found neither, and she didn't respond to my txt. there you have it, mall rats now willing to st for 800 (giving 300 away). anyone heard of mama's running rings in robinson's? i thought that was at harrison's plaza. more later, as i love drama! will xfer to larger room.
