First, three groups of men take synthetic testosterone: (1) athletes seeking improvements in their performance; (2) men with abnormally low testosterone levels for their age; and (3) older men who have normal testosterone levels for their age but lower levels than when they were younger.

Men who report having a low sex drive are more likely to have low testosterone levels. For example, MIT conducted a study: the average age of the men was 47; 11% of all the men in the study reported a low sex drive; among men with low testosterone levels 28% reported a low sex drive. Of course this only establishes a correlation between low testosterone and low sex drive, but you will be hard pressed to find a credible scientist who does not believe low testosterone levels are related to low sex drive.

The use of synthetic testosterone to increase a man's sex drive is more complicated. Broadly stated, many men with low testosterone who take synthetic testosterone report an increase in their sex drive. This is an empirical fact. The specific physiological mechanism responsible for this is not understood at this time. There is a plethora of research that shows synthetic testosterone increases physical strength, muscle mass, bone density, elevates mood, promotes more regular sleep and reduces body fat. The mechanisms that produce these effects are well understood. Stress, poor sleep habits, depression and other psychological factors diminish sex drive. Synthetic testosterone's impact on these factors could explain why some men report an increase in sex drive from taking synthetic testosterone. Of course there could be a more direct connection between sex drive and the elevation in testosterone produced by taking synthetic testosterone.

This is strictly anecdotal but I know several men in their 60's (about my age or a little older) who take synthetic testosterone. As a result, there has been a noticeable change in their physical appearance: improved muscle tone, reduced body fat and improvements in the appearance of their skin. They claim they have made no other changes in their life-styles. They also claim to have more energy, feel like a "younger man" and to have a greatly increased sex drive.

There are potential side effects from taking synthetic testosterone. It is now known that some of the reported side effects (such as testicular atrophy and increases in the size of the male breasts) are not attributable to testosterone but to the concurrent use of anabolic steroids by the men in these early studies. The biggest risk is that men who have prostate cancer will worsen the disease; therefore, a family history of prostate cancer is a contraindicater.

Artificially manipulating testosterone levels is a serious matter. Anyone considering taking synthetic testosterone should bear in mind that the long term effects are not know at this time. Do your research, talk to a couple of doctors and think carefully before making a decision.

Freud thought it pertained to everything that we would subsume under the word love. Sex, as we think of it, is just one manifestation of libido. Like many terms that Freud coined it became widely used by other scientists (Freud was a medical doctor specializing in neurology) and laypeople. In the medical community sex drive and libido are interchangeable. Low sex drive (libido) is a subjective term. A doctor would say a person has a low sex drive if he perceives his libido to be low and is distressed by this. There is no external, objective way to validate this person's self-perception. Oddly, this implies a fellow in Bangkok could be said to have a low libido because he believe his sex drive is low because he is only motivated to f*ck one woman every day and is distressed because other guys he knows f*ck two or more woman every day.

Journalist in general do a terrible job of reporting on science. Naturally, they are writing about something they understand superficially at best. However, I do think the general tone of skepticism that is pervasive throughout the article serves the public good.

In my earlier post I identified three primary groups who take synthetic testosterone.

(1) Athletes looking for a boost in performance; elite competitive athletes are likely to take it in combination with other drugs; will get a significant performance boost; and if caught are f*cked. The weekend warriors who take synthetic testosterone are idiots.

(2) Men with abnormally low testosterone levels; these men have a medical condition and their physician may determine a treatment regime including synthetic testosterone is warranted. The physician will know the risks and benefits and armed with test results will help the patient make the right decision. I actually I think common side effects and exposing others are not the biggest problems. Exercising great care greatly reduces the risk of exposing others. Similarly, probably the most serious side effect is prostate cancer. The consensus opinion among researchers at this time is that if you get prostate cancer and are taking synthetic testosterone you will make your cancer significantly worse. If you never get prostate cancer it's moot point because otherwise, there is little evidence it does any harm to a man with a healthy prostate. A guy just needs to look at his PSA levels and family history and make the intelligent decision. Many of the other side effects, growing hair on your upper arms, pattern baldness, pimples are often related to dosage. At one time infrequent injections and implants of large quantities of synthetic testosterone were the delivery methods. Now very small daily doses are self administered cutaneously. More current studies looking at these men are showing lessened risk of unwanted side effects.

I think the biggest problems are the unknown long term effects and the whole question of whether any man other than someone with a "real medical problem" has any business taking synthetic testosterone. As I said above, I think otherwise healthy middle aged men are idiots for wanting to take it. If your a couch potato and 50 ponds overweight, start eating healthy and get off your ass. But for those of us with low T levels (blood-test verified) Testosterone replacement (TRT) in hand with awareness of Estradiol levels (hello, expanding waistline, and man boobs) , as well as the vital monitoring of the size and health of your prostate, are all important to get your head around. Like your rising blood pressure issues with age, male hormone levels need to be tracked and taken care of, so we can continue to have a good quality of life. For me, that includes a healthy mongering life, past middle-age.

In fact I have an extensive background in math and science and took the time to become pretty knowledgeable for a layperson on synthetic testosterone. You're suspicions of people with a horse in the race is very wise. I deliberately talked to two friends, one working for a pharmaceutical company that did not manufacture a synthetic testosterone product, the other a biologist who does basic research on the endocrine system. I got blood tests and had consultations with two different doctors who used two different testing labs. In the end I decided to take a pass.

This all started when some guy asked about the difference between sildenafil citrate (Viagra) and testosterone products. I thought this was a topic that may be of interest to some of the guys who read the form so I gave a very brief, factually correct but somewhat flip answer. I appreciate that guys who read this thread are looking for information about gogos, beer bars, night clubs etc. I should have put my reply in the General Reports thread. I take responsibility for this and apologize.

My post stimulated a more extensive discussion than I anticipated, but I think everyone knew what he was talking about, was very good to not expand beyond the limits of his knowledge and repeatedly urged guys to talk to a physician. It is wise to take everything with a grain of salt. However, I think we provided enough specific information so anyone who was interested could do his own research.

I've always wondered why the pharma industry gets such a bad rap. Most guys on the R&D side come into it from a scientific background with a real desire to improve the world's health. The marketing side of the pharma business can be pretty dodgy, but no worse than any other business (automobiles, banking, law, IT, PR, airlines: they're all pretty straight guys, right?) But why are the pharmaceutical industries not investing in malaria drugs and new antibiotics. HGH injections to some degree reverse some of the effects of aging. It is a bit like discovering the fountain of youth. Now all of this a gross simplification, but it will produce pretty dramatic effects. Two problems: it's pretty expensive (hundreds of dollars per month or more depending on where you live) and no one knows what the long term effects are. To learn more, do a Google search on human growth hormone. You will find a plethora of information. Then talk to you doctor.

Its really a waste of time trashing other members. Guys that are just negative and attacking other posters all the time, don't look very smart to me. Counter attack doesn't really achieve anything very useful. I sometimes just try to suggest they might try to post some useful information or anything more positive.

A certain poster used to do 90% plus negative trash "dump-shit" type posts, but recently returned with some much more positive reports, which seemed like a new guy altogether. Amazing.

There are hot head posters too (overly sensitive types) who cannot take any form of disagreement, different opinions, or even mild stirring, as you well know, being a little bit of a stirrer at times. LOL. They interpret quite innocent remarks as direct attacks too. Its not worth thinking too long or losing any sleep those that are attacking with inadequate reason. No need to take criticism too seriously when it is clearly not warranted.

I do use the ignore button sometimes for the total raving rant type posters, as I just cannot be bothered to waste any effort reading their drivel, especially if it is lengthy. I dislike when guys are overly negative on topics where they have no personal experience to relate and no actual knowledge as well, or convey only bullshit experiences or negative opinions of others they read somewhere (but then disown them). For anyone having the opinion that I write drivel, they are more than welcome to use the ignore feature on me too.

Kumbu was a very interesting case. Many ISGers really liked his posts. I found them just a bit too lengthy and they included little useful information, and his style of operation was clearly markedly different from my own, I could not be bothered to read the reports fully. Would tend to just scan them if in the mood. I did not find them particularly amusing and were weird at times. However I have no problem with his reports, and if they entertain others, that is great. Clearly a writer with talents.

A few years back we used to have Nic Frenchy writing moderately lengthy experience reports, with good information detail, that were a really quite entertaining, as he managed to convey a very amusing view on the Thai culture and way of doing things. W hen I left off with information I was trying to provide It had been a bad experience with Won. The next night I am debating if I want to take a break. At worst the they will ask for I'd but on most occasions you can just walk through with no problems.

Decide to just take it easy, reconfirm my flight for the day after and get my wardrobe ready for the nights activities.

Head straight to Nana Plaza, it had rained between the time I checked in and now. I grab a seat on one of the bars after the entrance. Going to make this as quick a report as I can.

Question about Thailand? Is there a top 5 or so bars where all the hot girls work, and the rest work at the B and C clubs, or are there so many clubs there, you can't really pinpoint which places have the best looking women. First let me start with, Yes I have RTFF and I have provided mongering advice for Japan in the past.

However, the Skytrain makes all of them very accessible. Soi Cowboy (Asok Station) and Nana Plaza (Nana Station) are both on the Sukhumvit Line and just a few minutes apart. Patpong (Sala Daeng Station) is on the Silom line and takes maybe 15 or 20 minutes from Cowboy.

Prices are definitely higher than even 2 or 3 years ago, but it seems the service quality has declined as well. Now I read nothing but reports of 30 minute liaisons with a go-go girl for $100 or more. Hell, I can do that here. Needless to say, I quit going to go-gos. :)

I've been frequenting Crazy House a lot recently. 90 baht cola is quite a good value. Very busy whenever I go, usually between 9 and 11 pm. Definately a Farang bar. But not that long ago the baht was at 40:1, short time was around 3 hours, long time was all evening, all night and most of the next day, and a go-go girl was 1500 short time. 2000 long time. So, about $50. Bar beer girls were cheaper, generally.

Then our benevolent government, starting in about 2007, fucked up our currency even more and the dollar dropped to 30:1. Now the same girl was about $70. Ouch.

Then the combination whammy of lower supply (fewer girls due to birth rate) , more opportunity (the non-bar economy is booming) and "I don't care, it's still cheaper than home" punters hit. So, now that same go-go girl may go for $100 to $130, no long time and short time may be 30 minutes. All with a girl that may rate about a 4. 5 on PUBS (Phordphan Universal Beauty Scale).

It's not all doom and gloom. There are still nice times to be had. I just think that the go-go bars represent a terrible value for money now, and their days may be numbered. Bar beers can still be a lot of fun. For my money, the semi-pro market, both in LOS and Mexico, represent the best value these days.

Arrived two nights ago and all is good. At the airport, change your money _only_ to the Kasikorn booth by the train station, all the others are scams. I had reserved the Nasa Vegas Hotel for the astounding price of $12, when they don't have any Junior rooms left they will upgrade you automatically, and that was my case. That is just 15 mins away by airport link for Bt 30 fare. Around 1:30am I took a taxi to Sukhumvit for Bt 60, went straight to Insanity, of course using the restaurant door, so I could order my drink if and when I wanted it. A good line is to ask the girls if they have the club card for a discount on drinks, they invariably say yes and will be happy to pass on the discount. The situation was good, sure too many men but what can we do about! Ladies were in regular quantity and quality. The dancers looks seems worst anyway. I took it slow looking all around, one girl would not budge from 2K, good luck to her going home with 0 instead. Another, younger and prettier called Jun, was happy with 1500 and two pops. Outside at the plaza one taxi guy asked 300 Bt for going back, made me have one of the better laughs I had in ages. Just say "meter ok" and that's it.

Jun had very nice attitude and a great small tight body. On the 2nd pop she tries to Thai her way out of it, but deals are deals so she had to oblige naturally. She was not in the mood for long time anyway despite her rent due the following day ar Bt 3800.

First time I did this, I thought that I'd died and gone to heaven.

Another good time (for tourists but not for Thais) was in '97 during the great Asian crash. One pound was then worth over 100 baht (don't know what the dollar made) and with hardly any Asian tourists about, girls were desperate for cash from the few western tourists about. You could get a stunner from Nana Plaza, Soi Cowboy or the Clinton bar complex (anyone remember that?) long time for 1500 (£15). A presentable girl from Thermae would go long time for 500 baht (£5 or $8!).
