Loy Katong is a major holiday, but the nightlife doesn't close down. It is celebrated on November 1 and 2 this year. I like being in BKK for Loy Katong. I stay at the Shangri-La Hotel which is on the river and I have a view of the fireworks they shoot off for the holiday. I also like walking around town during Loy Katong since everyone is in a jovial mood. I join the Thais in putting a little boat with a candle, a leaf and a coin in the river to float away, so I can pay respect to the river god. I also enjoy having a romantic dinner for two with a beatiful Thai girl on Loy Katong, then going back to the hotel to watch the fireworks on the river, after which we make our own fireworks.
I highly recommend Bnagkok during this period.

I was many times during the festival and it is really festive atmosphere. All the people dress elegantly including the bargirls.Just watch out for the door fee, drink prices and barfine. Because they tend to jack up the price.

I have some questions about what should I expect when I pick up a girl for ST, can I squeeze in 2 shots or is it just one? If it's just one shot it could be over after 15 minutes. I guess it depends on the girl, if I pick one up from a go go club for ST, and I want her to stay more, can I add the difference for LT fee after I sampled the goods? What about the MP? Same question.
YMMV with ST. I would say that 1 pop is the standard, but if you want two gos then it is probably a good idea to agree this with the girl when you negotiate before taking her out.
Naturally it is possible to agree to keep a girl LT if you initially have agreed to take her ST. There is the occasional girl that doesn't do LT though since they need to get home to their kids or whatever, just ask in advance.

Loy Krathong has nothing to do with departed souls. It's associated primarily with the river goddess. It probably started in India and was associated with the river Ganges. There are other spiritual meanings about the holiday, but the principal meaning has nothing to do with departed souls. Check out the Wikipedia for more information.

Wow we are getting too much in Loy Katong. It is held on the full moon of the 12th lunar month and usually that is in November. La Kratong has taken over like the Western Valentines day and is heavily used by thai lovers now.
The history as relayed to me is that it was originally adopted by Thai Buddhists during Rama IV in the 1860's. It is a ceremony that celebrates the Lord Buddha by offering trays with flowers, candles and incense. Loy = Float and Kratong = tray made from banana leaves. The light of the candle honors Lord Buddha, and setting it free on water is = a release of anger or resentment. Basically it is a way for a fresh start.
Now... on top of all of this, it has taken on the added significance to honor Mae Nam, the goddess of the rivers who Thai's hope will bring good luck. This adds to the romantic sentiment of Loy Kratong which ties from a legend of a royal consort to King Ramkhamhaeng. Nopamas made the original Loy Kratong to please the King and he feel in love with Nopamas forever.
Many Thais believe that if they with their lover set free a kratong on the water way and it stays floating until it leaves their sight then their love will last forever. Many couples will dress in local cultural outfits to release their kratong and many schools will let kids out of school to make their kratong.

There are some other bars where you can get a bit of action in a dark corner, but none are as public as SOL.

i am no sure if you are being sarcastic - but everything about her story strikes me as total bollocks. she has all the characteristics of a seasoned pro. not necessarily a bad thing by the way but i find their invented backgrounds constantly amusing as they try to squeeze every drop of sympathy and cash they can out of us. a lot of girls have braces these days but many of them are cosmetic as it has become a fad of sorts - why i can't imagine - maybe some pop star has them? i think they look awful. one girl i know got red ones which made her look really creepy. after not getting a customer for a few days she got rid of them.

LOL. When I popped back up in BKK two times ago my backup TG came over. She opened her mouth and said look I changed to your favorite color, blue. That tickled me. I have never seen the colored braces outside of Thailand. 2 more days til Thailand!

Actually, it is most probably a sign of the fact it has been sold time and time again, with the buyer getting nothing, as is the case with most farangs buying bars and the like.

Star of Light
Having been to Star of Light many many times I want to share it with all of you. Most accounts of Star of Light are not very detailed. The seediness and rawness of Star of Light appeals to many. For many it does not. I intend to give you a blow by blow (pardon the pun) of this establishment that for me fits the bill completely.
Getting there
Many of you want to take a taxi to Star of Light. You can do that but it is really a waste and you miss out on walking along the pitted, potholed sidewalk in Patpong (right now they are tearing up the whole sidewalk and frankly it is real danger to walk it. I am not kidding). The best way is the MRT or as many of us would call it the underground subway. In Bangkok it is called the MRT (http://www.bangkok-booking.com/bangkok-map.html ). The link is to several maps including the BTS (the above ground commuter train) and the MRT.
Simply take the MRT to Silom station. If you take the BTS you will have to change trains at Siam and get on the Silom line to the Silom stop. Its up to you but for most the MRT is the best way. When you exit the MRT I suggest you go outside and go upstairs and get on the above ground sidewalk that leads to the BTS station. That way you can avoid some of the terrible sidewalk and the heavy crowds. By walking this way you do not have to get on the BTS. Rather as you walk look to the right side and you can walk down to the sidewalk. Now for the first timers to be sure you are on the right side of the street you will see a bar/restaurant on the corner called O’Reillys. It has a huge Irish colored green awning. That is the side of the street you want to be on.
Walk up that sidewalk (going away from the BTS/MRT station) past a Dunkin Donuts and sport show stores and the never ending stalls selling overpriced trinkets. Now Patpong has two sois (streets) that we are interested in- Patpong 1 and Patpong 2. Now Patpong 2 is the soi where Star of Light is located at the end of the soi. But Patpong 2 is so small and narrow that you can literally walk past it. I did it many times. You usually know it is Patpong 2 because there is always a tout there trying to sell you a massage( and believe me you will encounter at least 10 people trying to do it before you get to Star of Light-don’t bite and stay focused). So lets say you walked past Patpong 2 and did not realize it. You will eventually come upon Patpong 1 which is about 1 or 2 minute walk from Patpong 2. Patpong 1 is a much much wider soi than Patpong 2. It has a huge awning above the street that is usually advertising beer or something. You will also notice just a few feet down Patpong 1on the left side a 7-11 store. That lets you know you are on Patpong 1. If you walk past Patpong 1 you will see a hospital on your right and that means you have gone too far.
Just for entertainment sake take the stroll down Patpong 1. In the daytime (9am until about 6pm) there are no vendors in the middle of the street hawking wares as they do at night. Patpong is completely different during the day. It is amazing. Nevertheless as you walk down this wide soi for some reason there are really no cars going down this soi. Perhaps its because they are not permitted. Nevertheless is good to scout this area during the day in case you decide to taste the other entertainment there later that night such as Kings and Queens clubs. I don’t like these places so I cannot report on them. Nevertheless as you walk down this soi you will be approached 4 or 5 times by ladies trying to sell you massage services. Be nice and say no. On the left side of the soi you will notice two other bj bars-Kangaroo and Rose. I have gone into both and never partake mainly because the women were so old and it was too dark. In addition they want 800 baht for a bj when just a short walk away you can get the same service at Star of Light for 700. Rose has a big sign but Kangaroo has a small sign. Just take your time and walk down the left side of the soi and and you will see them. They both open around 2pm while Star of Light opens at 9:30 am.
As you approach the end of the soi you will see a Watsons drug store. Nice place to pick up some condoms. And for us Western guys if you need larger condoms purchase the Durex with the purple box with a pink swirl on it. They are the larger ones. Now once you get to this end of Patpong walk to your right down the sidewalk. That is if you are standing in front of Watsons just walk across Patpong 1 (not the street in front of you) until you come to the next soi. You should only walk only less than a minute to get to the next soi. This is Patpong 2. The gateway to Star of Light.
Walk up Patpong 2. You will see one or two open air bars on the left side. As you walk up start looking to the left. Eventually you will see another open air bar (I think it might be the 2nd or 3rd open air bar you pass) and right beside it you will see ladies sitting outside at a table (they are usually eating). The small brown door beside them is Star of Light and the ladies are the ladies offering services.
Wow. Now we have figured out how to get there. Go there in the morning so you can take your time and walk around in case you get turned around. But it is not hard. If you walk too far up Patpong 2 you will know it because you will pass a Foodland supermarket on your left. If you have passed it turn around and walk about 1 minutes until you see the 2nd open air bar and right beside it you will see the ladies sitting outside. They will always be wearing cute outfits that are all the same style.
Star of Light itself
Now for some it is intimidating walking up to 10 or 15 women sitting at a table who are offering their services. I will tell you how I did it the first time. I simply pretended to be on my cell phone as I approached. They all will wave hi and it gives you a chance to stand beside them and pretend to be on a phone call while scanning them to see who you will share your weeks load with. I know this seems like a weak approach but believe me it is intimidating the first time. I kid you not. Nevertheless after standing there a minute or so just walk inside. Now this place is small. And I mean small. The counter inside is holds maybe 4 high back bar stools. Directly behind them (about 6 feet behind the stools) are two black vinyl covered benches. The bar is poorly stocked because frankly no one comes there to drink. Most guys get a cola.
Now as soon as you come in a lady will come in behind you. There maybe two or three ladies already inside. Just tell them you want a cola and to sit at the bar a minute or two. Chat with the girls. Crack a joke. They are very friendly. As you talk to the ladies they will eventually offer their oral services for 700 baht. $20 USA. That means a BBBJ, with CIM. 90% of them will offer a facial for a tip (I will give them 200 baht). 99% of them offer full service for 1000 baht in the “room”. More on the “room” later.
Now you have several options. You can get your BJ right there on the stool. Or you can have it on the low black vinyl benches. If placed together the two benches could hold four guys at the same time. They are that small. Now I always go during the day. The girls are not tired, more apt to talk and because I went there so much they offered two girl bj’s for 1000 baht during the day when business was slow. They do not offer this to everyone. Only customers that come back. It is at the girls discretion. I only do this now. Two girl bj for 1000 baht. 30USD. You cannot beat that. I have never seen more than 1 or 2 guys in there at the same time. I have only seen one guy get a bj on the vinyl bench in the open for everyone to see. I think most guys will want to use the “room” but to each his own. Nevertheless the girls take their shirt/bra off and get to work. The girls have told me you can be there 30-40 minutes for the bj if you want. Most guys do not last that long .It is interesting to see one lady be “trained” by another to do a bj. That actually goes on. On lady is servicing you and another comes over and gets pointers on how to do a bj by the lady doing the servicing. Amazing. Anyhow most of the girls do lots of slurping and dirty talking. The ladies that are there have been there a while according to them. Several of the girls are actually from the same family. I kid you not. This is what you learn when you take the time to talk to them. As a result you always get better service and sometimes extras. Once I was there at 9:30 and there was not one customer and according to the girls there would probably not be one until 12. I got a three girl bj for 1000 baht and gave one of them a facial as the other two cheered on. This is the way it ought to be guys.
The girls after taking your load always spit and rinse with Listerine. Health concerns seem to be a big concern there but on the same token nearly every girl there has offered me bareback which I would never ever do. They are all required to have health checks every month and their certificates are kept at the bar. Most of them have the telltale needle mark on their arm where they are checked for HIV (and no it is not drug abuse needle marks). Whether you get your services in the “room” or in the bar area you pay the 700 baht when you are finished. Always place the tip in the girls hand. If you do not the bar will keep her tip. All of girls have told me this.
Now if you are the shy type you can get your services in the “room”. Guys the room is the size of maybe three public toilet stalls. And it is the toilet. I am not joking. As you walked into the toilet through the brown slatted door to your left is a big trashcan full of water for the girls to wash up in. To your right is a small sink, a toilet and a very small black vinyl bench in the corner. I snapped a photo with my cell phone. It is a poor picture but where I am standing is right beside the sink and you can see the checkered floor. This “room” cannot be more than 9 or ten feet long and maybe 5 feet wide. Getting two girls in room is a challenge until they get on their knees. Even then if they are not careful they will hit their back against the sink as they are servicing you.
The very small black vinyl bench is very very small. It is visibly well worn. Personally I never sit my bare bottom on it. I always leave my underwear on. And while we are on that subject lets talk health for a minute. I always bring my own high quality soap in a very small container ( the size of a bottle cap) to wash my hands afterwards. This place is not filthy but it is gritty. No question about that. I always bring my own baby wipes though the girls bring a small cosmetic bag with them that has everything in it. So you do not have to bring anything if you do not want to.
Usually when I am finished I sit at the bar again and have a cola. Sometimes after 20 minutes of seeing guys come and go or hearing some guy getting FS in the “room” I go for a second round. But I do not want to give the impression that Star of Light is a FS joint..it is a bj joint. I have actually gotten anal from two girls in there in the “room”. But I am a regular. Nevertheless Star of Light is a must do while you are in Bangkok. It is easy to get to, the girls are fun (most of them are between 6 and 7..two of them have some great natural breasts..nice brown and from Issan) and for 700 baht its worth it. The first time she came over was right after work, and offering her the 2,000 for "shopping" was a kind of payment. Her attitude of "up to you" made it hard to pin down what she expected though. It seemed seeing me again was her priority.

I finally got the scoop from the touts on their payment from Cupidy. Three touts stopped me yesterday trying to get me to go. I asked each of them how much they get if they bring me. The first one said that he does not get a per person fee, but gets a monthly salary of 6000 baht. The next two said they get 70 baht/person. The last guy explained to me better. He said that each time they bring a person they are given a voucher with a stamp on it. (He showed me one.) At the end of the month they give all the vouchers to the owner and they pay them 70 baht/person. He said he usually brings 30 to 40 people each month.

Many will tell you you're story is a common one from not taking money to crying at the airport. Whatever the reason she got a eye for you in general new (ATM), there is no such thing as working part-time she has the full time P4P mentality. Your overpaying might be the first tip-off for her ( remember in the future Taxi drivers or anyone in general in Thailand doesn't take you somewhere for the goodness of their hearts. Most of the time there is a monetary incentive for them and certainly when it comes to a Soapie 10/10 whoever takes you there is getting a cut that's why the price was so high. Second, I'm going to take a guess you being Asian might be another attraction for her. She could still be with a Farang that look like a Thai, which becomes the best of both worlds! If not, I'm at least 1 for 1 still a decent batting average. She is using the Thai, marketing concept! To make money she got to spend money!

I just finished the condoms I bought back in my country and today I was in Watson to buy some.
I feel really not confortable with condoms with a size smaller than 54mm and the only one I could find larger than 52mm are quite expenisve I think (more than double price).

Finally my short report on SOL.
I've been there a couple of days ago, about 11am. At first I couldn't even find it, I was about to give up when I finally could see the Patopong 2 soi (honestly I didn't expect it to be so SMALL soi).

#1 is the biggest friggin problem. You can't win. Too low you are bad and too high you are marked. There is no winning on #1. Never accept #1.
If you try to pay and they say #2 then you can stick something in the pocket and kiss them goodbye and say taxi money or go shopping etc...

It was packed and so convienent when you pick one up and if it didn't turn out you could just go back down the elevator and right back in and start all over again. In the good years I got in for free just by showing my room key.. so many of the girls that worked at the NEP, came to Freelance at the Disco after they didn't get pick at their own venues.
The owner of the bar the guy name Rick, is he a Farang, if so, I'm just surprise with his experience and prior venture at the other bars that he couldn't turn it around and trying to remodel the place when it was already dead and then reopeing and continue to charge a high fee at the door makes me wonder? since personally I think the high door charge was what contribute to the decline.
It also seem at the same time the disco decline, Spice club on Soi 11 was getting popular. Have you been there and if so what are they doing that Nana wasn't?

About Nana Disco, it's a pitty that this place will close, but to be honest, I were the last time in on my last Holiday in October and the place, even when they lowered the entrance fee to 200 Baht, if I remember right, where empty. The closed at 2 am and that was just to early since the most gogo close at 2 am as well.
In earlier times I were often in Nana Disco, though the entrance fee of 500 Baht was quite high, imho. Nevertheless the club rocked, purly mongers and freelancer, not so much "happy" Thai-Farang couples. Spice, Spicy, Boss, Bossy, etc are besides the monger vs freelancer crowd, a place were farangs bring there rented thai girls to show up and spent the night.
But, beside Nana Disco, there were other clubs which had good times and went down the river. For example Kings Lounge, upstairs in a small soi between Patpong 3 and 2. The Club still excists as far I know, but last time I were there was October 2008 and the place were empty at 2 am.

I think there are several factors that led to the decline of Angel's Disco; it wasn't only the entrance fee problem. As was pointed out in the story, the cops, competition and yes, mis-management all contributed in some ways to its demise. Never been to Spice Club so I can't comment. There's a relatively new club/disco on Soi 7/1 that seems to be doing quite well, can't remember the name, maybe Rick can visit them but he seems resigned to the fact that Angel's is history. Despite having a dubious reputation, Nana is still a popular and prime time attraction for many, would be ashamed to turn that good retail space into an oversize empty closet.
As for changing the subject, not my intent, as you very well know not even Jackson can accomplish that feat, right? I just thought this bit of news may have been of interest to some. The boys can resume their "good time" chit-chat anytime. ;)

Since when is the NPL scene declining? It seems that Angels has been dead
and waiting burial for at least a year or two now, so any impact its closure
will have on the NPL should be minimal.
Also i wonder if there is any such correlation between the two, or if it might
work out the opposite of that. For example, if P4P ladies who frequented
the disco decided to go elsewhere because it has been so lacking in
customers, then they might think about going out to the NPL. Following up
on that idea would make the NPL more busy. My guess is, though, if they
liked the disco scene they would probably go to another disco rather than
be an SW. And that's where they might find former Angel's customers.
If NEP ever shuts down, as some have suggested it may do w/i the next
few years, that may have an effect on the NPL. Though there would still
be many bars, MPs, and hotels nearby with P4P customers, besides the
historical reputation of the NPL, to draw the ladies there.
An increase or decrease in LE harassment of SW ladies in the area is
another factor and one which seems to concern many of these TGs. If
become too scared to work there any more then they will go elsewhere.
Likewise if there are not enough customers due to it being low season,
an economic downturn, with political instability and scams on the rise
in BKK, the law of supply and demand might dictate that women look
for another line of employment.

Me, I like the luxury of being able to go to ONE bar and see a great lineup altogether there in one spot, as opposed to (as at Cowboy) having to hit a number of them to finally find a good candidate.
And I'm sure there's plenty here who have reasons just as good why they prefer Soi Cowboy or whatever other venue they like.

I gotta say that I had very poor experiences at NPL for about the last two years and never really stop there. I do not like the noise of Spice / Spicy / CM2 and others. I'm just not a bar / disco kind of guy. Thermane, little luck there. But overall the FL scene is kind of on a down ward trend FOR ME which is a shame as I really like one FL I caught. YMMV.

Yesterday night I had supper at the Majestic Suites. It's a hotel on Sukhumvit road between Soi 4 and 6 so it is very close from Nana.
I went there because they proposed me free Internet while I was having supper. They also have rooms at better rates than Nana: 1295 for Single with Breakfast and free Internet.
But I have to say that the meal was a total disaster, the soup was really too spicy, and the rice with seafood was good but I could easily have eaten a double portion.
While I was eating, I could read a message from Mr Enternational who explained me he couldn't come to our meeting and proposed a new one on the Nana's parking lot. When I had to pay my supper, I discovered that they would charge 10% for service + vat. So my supper with free Internet was not cheap at all (400 Bhats)! The Nana Buffet for 200 bahts is much better and for 200 bahts I could have more than an hour of Internet.
Then I walked back with my laptop till the Nana hotel and immediately found Mr Enternational. He was hanging around, talking with the Nana's parking lot's girls. I quickly left my laptop in my room and we headed toward a GoGo bar at Nana's second floor. The place was nice and we had some fun with the show and a few girls. At 1:30 am we left the place and went back to the Nana's parking lot. As The Nana's entertainment place close at 2am, Mr Enternational knew that the girl would gather on the Nana's hotel parking lot just in front of the Entertainment center. And he was right. At 2:15 the parking had maybe a 100 girls, and you wouldn't have to pay a bar fine to pick one with you for ST of LT. Prices were the same (after a small talk maybe) 1000 for ST and 2000 for LT. You could discuss and get a discount, like 1500 for LT if you know how to handle this. As I already had 2 girls that day, I didn't feel like going for a third one and wanted to have some sleep. I talked with an incredible tiny girl who accepted to comeback at 10 am the next day for BBFS. Then Mr Enternational found his girl and left with her. I decided to try to see where the other girls would go and followed some of them. I remember, that mayber 10 years ago, girl would go on Thermae to try to find a customer for the night. So I followed a group of 3 girls. They crossed and turned right on Sukhumvit This place was just packed with girls (and so many LadyBoys! ). An all night activity occurs there. A lot of girls would have supper right on tables installed on the pavement at less than 50 cm from a high traffic jam, you could also see card readers everywhere trying to read your future in their cards (and in your purse). I kept walking till Termae where some girls had gathered outside, and had a quick check in Termae but it was completely empty.
That reminds me the Nana's disco at the hotel, 10 years ago it was the place where the girls would go after 2am and it was really great as they had maybe 100 or 200 girls staring at you trying to convince you to pick them up. Then the Hotel put a fee and everything stopped. The disco, like Termae is now a dead business with no consumer at all. I kept walking till SoiCowboy but there was very little animation after Termae.
When I arrived at Soi Cowboy it was also closing down but the girls would disappeared, I wonder where?
It was 3am when I arrived to the Nana hotel. The street was now much quiet, but there were still a few girls waiting for an eventual customer, and I suppose I could have discussed a bargain but I was really tired and decide to have a good night sleep.
I waked up around 9 am, had a shower and went down for my breakfast. The Nana Hotel is not just a mongering hotel and they also have families with kids, foreign couples, and everything goes smoothly.
I bought another 4 tablets of Kamagra (it had worked fine for me) for 300 Bahts and closed a deal with a taxi for tomorrow till Pataya (1200 Bahts all included). I then wanted to change some money, but soon discovered that the place where I did it on my arrival had change its rates and was offering much less, so I looked for a better offer and found it not to far away.
Then it was 10 am, and my date didn't show up. Too bad for me, but that's the game!
Then started a very long and boring afternoon.
It's Saturday and there is almost no available girls except in massage parlors. No street activity, just traffic jam, noise and pollution.
I have returned to a restaurant where I had a very good meal 10 years ago and it was still very good and cheap. Take Sukhumvit on the right pavement towards Soi Cowboy and it's under the Metro bridge of Asok, name is Thongkee.

The name is Royal Thai Cuisine. Once again, a nice restaurant that turns to be no good.
I ordered a soup with chicken in coconut milk and the famous fried rice with seafood in pineapple. The soup was filled with aromatic herbs and only regular, but the fried rice didn't came in a pineapple as shown on the picture and, most important, it was really bad. I'd say the worst I had in my life for one of my favorite meal. Then I discovered that they also had 10% service + 8% vat to add to the publicized price.
On my way back, I crossed the bridge and walked back to my hotel. A lot of girls were waiting for a customer. It was 11:30pm.
I didn't see any of my previous girls, so I hope they had luck and had found some nice guys.
I went back to my hotel and slept till 1:30 am. I then went back to the Nana's parking lot and observed the action. According to some girls it was a very quite night with very little customer. I found a nice guy from LA and we remained on the parking, talking and joking with girls all the time, it was very nice and so funny as that guy had a great sense of humor.
I didn't feel very horny but I would have like to have a nice last night in BKK. Unfortunately, the 3 girls I talked to declined my BBFS demand. One agreed but she wanted 1500 and it was already 4am! I said her 1500 is with your ass and that provoked a direct refusal.
So, let's call it a night for the few hours that remains before I have to wake-up again!

I am a member on this board since Sept '05, but was not in LOS before '07.
It wouldn't surprise me if it was dead last night, as this is the low season
and probably considerably lower than usual even for this time of year,
considering all the problems BKK has been having. Nevertheless i hadn't
seen any significant changes in the NPL from '07 to early '09 after going
there on 100's of separate days.

Since when is the NPL scene declining? It seems that Angels has been dead
and waiting burial for at least a year or two now, so any impact its closure
will have on the NPL should be minimal.
There has been a definite but not exclusive correlation between the Nana Disco dying and the NPL hitting the skids. The girls shifted back and forth between the two locales like fish in a stream - trying their luck in both places. But a lot of the girls preferred the disco and only came out to NPL at closing time or just to see what was happening. Once the ND began its decline around 3 years ago with the increased door fee, many of those girls stopped coming all together and are never seen in the NPL anymore. They have shifted to other discos and that especially goes for the younger girls who like the disco scene.
The NPL barely has a pulse these days and the quality of girls has dropped considerably and their average age has increased a lot. Many nights have around 30 girls at most where a few years ago there were 75+ at 2 a.m. Now much of this is admittedly not just due to the ND or the fact that the hotel became girl unfriendly by not allowing them to use the bathrooms - but also because of the constant police harrassment and the 1000 baht fines. I know many girls who just won't set foot in NPL anymore for fear of getting caught in a police raid.
Another factor at least in my opinion is the general decline of the freelancer scene and I really can't explain why that is - but it's not only me that feels this way - many folks I talk to who live here feel the fl scene has gone to hell. There was a day when the ND, the Thermae, the NPL, Grace Hotel, the Beer Garden were all packed with girls - many many of them young and very nice. Now its really down to the Beer Garden where the girls tend to be older and the Thermae where the girls tend to be . . . let us say giving preferential treatment to the Japanese. There are other locations where they hang out like Bangkok Beat on Soi 7-1 or New Wave on Soi 7 but in relatively small numbers. The ones I know from the old days keep to the late night discos and for all I know these places may be treasure troves of FL's but I hate discos and find them really lousy places to find girls.

I have been in and out of Nana Hotel, since the late 80's, and always though that it was owned by a big mafia family. Didn't the family use to operate the Soapie Ekami or somthing like that but since has closed? When it comes to police protection isn't it usually based on how much the police perceive the place is making in profits? Even if they are asking for a certain amount when the place is rocking I don't think they would be asking the same if the place was in decline?
If my memory serves me right even in December 2007, the place was full, in 2008, I was there 3 times Jan, June, December, and the decline was noticable but they still were charging 400 baht. In December 2008, they had already remodel but still they wanted to charge a entry fee which I just couldn't understand. My thinking is if you open a business and can't spend money to make money you have no business in opening one. When you open a business in Thailand like this club paying protection is a way of life. So one needs to factor that into the equation! In December of 2008, they had girls outside waving people in with their promotion 2 for 1, and it was still empty! As far as I'm concern, Rick should have let everyone in for free.. throw a party when he reopened instead of one now for closing. With Labor being so cheap he should have paid a bunch of stunners to walk up and down Sukhumvit and pass out flyers instead of having them hide in a back alley! I just don't think I will ever understand the markieting concept in Thailand.
Several years ago I was booked into a dump of a hotel! Even the Freelancer I ask to meet me there didn't want to go there! The place is Raja Hotel down from Nana Hotel! The only thing the place was good for was the water pressure the best I have ever seen or had in any hotel in Thailand. I found out that the hotel was purchased by someone in Hong Kong.. personally the place had so much potential, huge dinner room, inside a courtyard where Annies is located along with a bunch of small bars. I expressed this to the manager at the front desk years ago... today it seems to be growing... they are fixing the hotels, swimming pool, and see potential in this area... it might be the next Nana Parking lot scene. They even have Russians at the hotel!
This is my opinion as to what I view it would be interesting to hear from others! Of course to be considerate we might want to it this conversation to the Thailand Expat Forum!

I don't think you could find a soul in Thailand who would give Rick a passing grade for business acument. As dumb as a door stop. The Nana Disco had a monopolistic hold on the freelancer scene from midnight to 2.a.m. All the other discos never got started till after 2 and for many of us that is too late. So the girls could begin the night here and if they didn't get a customer they would move on to another disco after closing time. And he screwed it up. But the real idiocy is that people have been talking about how stupid the fee is ever since it hit 400 baht. All he ever had to do was spend one night watching a multitude of guys walk up to the desk - find out the price - and turn around and leave. That was money just walking away and he never had the I.Q. to change it till it was way too late. And yes - then he hires these girls to hand out flyers - puts them in the dowdiest clothes humanly possible looking like refugees from Pratunam Mall - tells them they are not allowed to go up and down the street handing them out but have to stay in front of the hotel and then - not to be cruel - picks these really plain girls to do it. One might suspect that he was trying to run the business into the ground for some personal or financial reason.
The real question is - what will they put in its place. The hotel has managed to ruin their restaurant by raising prices near double what you can get anywhere on the street - I wonder if they will be equally stupid with that space. And finally occupancy is going down - always near 95% it is I heard around 60% now - not bad in these times but there has been a lot of new hotels built - their price at 1500 baht a night is way over priced for a pretty crappy hotel and people are getting pissed off at little things like not allowing the girls to use the bathroom, stopping the daily newspaper, charging for a glass of water and so on. It used to be a circus staying there - there really is no reason to check in anymore.
I once stayed at the Rajah back in the late 90's. It was an ok hotel. Never could figure out how it went out of business in that location. The Rajah apts are as you say like the black hole of Calcutta - but at 11,000 baht a month a deal I guess. I can't see the freelance scene shifting over there though it would be nice. I just think for many reasons the fl are a slowly shrinking breed - overall fewer girls getting into the biz, sponsors taking many of the best out of the biz, more financial security working in beer bars or go-go bars, police harrassment, fewer places to work and a more dangerous work environment. That is why I think you see so many fewer young girls coming on the fl scene - they have better options.

First time in Thailand was for me 1992, though at that time I were mostly in Patpong area. Kings Lodge or the GoGos in Patpong were my hunting ground. Than I did were some years in Brazil and I came back to Thailand in about 2002.
At this time the Nana Disco, Biergarten and Suk Soi 4 were very good places for FL. Nowadays the FL have found other playgrounds.
SW are in Soi 4, Soi 3 and lower Sukhumvit between Soi3 and Soi7. Even African and CIS SW can be found. Thermae were down in the early 2000, imho. Now, Thermae is a good hunting ground, for guys whose are into younger pretty girls. Though these girls are a bit picky.
After midnight the whole left Sukhumvit street from Soi3 to Soi Asoke turns into a FL Area. Many small street bars opens and there you can find many FL's.
Than there are various Late Night Discos, though I have to admit they start late.
Nevertheless there is alot of opportunities. Yesterday for example I found a Freelancer in Chuvit Park Sukhumvit Soi 10. I went to read a book. Opposite were a girl constantly flirting with me. She was pretty, but to skinny for my taste. Nevertheless I start a talk with her, because I had compassion with her. She told me that her weight is 37 kg, I guess she was 1,50 m. I told her that despite she is pretty, she did not make me horny, since I like curvy girls.
She replied that before she had 49 kg, but most Farangs like skinny girls and so she took a diet.
Well, what I want to say, is that the FL are still there, only they are not more at the same places.
I gotta say that I had very poor experiences at NPL for about the last two years and never really stop there. I do not like the noise of Spice / Spicy / CM2 and others. I'm just not a bar / disco kind of guy. Thermane, little luck there. But overall the FL scene is kind of on a down ward trend FOR ME which is a shame as I really like one FL I caught. YMMV.

If you try to pay and they say #2 then you can stick something in the pocket and kiss them goodbye and say taxi money or go shopping etc...
When I took a very popular girl for the night, and asked how much she wanted, I got the "up to you". Now I was not going to knock her back just because she wouldn't name a price. There are many girls too shy to name a price. There are establishments where the rules state that the girls are not allowed to start naming prices and create a price escalation war. Like who is the top girl who can get the most money per booking?
You guys just simply have to work out a fair price that is likely to satisfy the girl and tip extra if the experience was fantastic. Problems really only occurs if you are stingy and underpay. If really not sure, you can ask the girl again for guidance later. Like "Would she be happy with X or not really?", or "I have heard that most guys pay about X, is that right?"
Not being a stingy type, I have never been able to detect any problems. Sometimes the girl was plesantly suprised.
Usually then girls would happily go with me again, no discussion necessary.
If you are in Thailand, you just have to put up with the "its up to you". Its all too common. Smart girls that really give a good time believe they end up getting more this way than with hard bargaining in the long run.

I remember when going out on Friday or Saturday nights to the BG or Thermae meant huge numbers of gals that one never saw during the week showing up to supplement regular jobs and have some fun....these days, there are 98% the same faces on a pretty continual basis, and yes, often far older...maybe it is just old timers getting nostalgic, but darn, even 3-4 years ago, i dont remember ever being asked "how much," ST v. LT, or being told "not enough." 1000 baht usually had the gals doing the washing the next day and talking about moving in and both parties appeared to leave satisfied with everything...those days are long long gone, or at least down to the odd diamond in the rough

I guess it depends on what your definition of 'decline' is. I'll say that when I get to town, the one bar in town I make sure to visit the first night is Rainbow 4. Last time I was there, it was better stocked than any bar I remember seeing back in the glory days. I haven't been back this year but what I've seen in reports is that that hasn't changed. Other than that, sure there's fewer cuties in the rest of the bars than in the past (perhaps), and prices are up (as they are everywhere) and the attitude more mercenary (ditto). Atittudes seem to overall be a bit better in Soi Cowboy, tho again, not in all bars. Nana still has something like 1000 girls (a number taken directly from out of my ass, feel free to correct that if you have a better estimate), and the % of those that are stunning is probably around the same if not better than the 1000 girls (see above for source) at Soi Cowboy. Me, I like the luxury of being able to go to ONE bar and see a great lineup altogether there in one spot, as opposed to (as at Cowboy) having to hit a number of them to finally find a good candidate.
And I'm sure there's plenty here who have reasons just as good why they prefer Soi Cowboy or whatever other venue they like.

Can anyone recommend an area where I can tell the taxi driver to drop me where I will be able to turn up on spec and find a room for one night?

on the slight chance that they cannot accomodate you, or you do not

I just finished the condoms I bought back in my country and today I was in Watson to buy some.
I feel really not confortable with condoms with a size smaller than 54mm and the only one I could find larger than 52mm are quite expenisve I think (more than double price).

I am one of those people who used to go to Nana Disco over 10 years ago and the parking lot. It's changed drastically on talent and numbers. It's been on a downward trajectory for quite awhile now and that means more than two years ago. When I started going, there was no entrance fee. It was packed. Then they started charging to get in and numbers started to decline. I told the manager it wasn't good, but nothing ever happened and it kept on declining. They had to be making money before the entrance fee, but to me they got greedy. Even the Thai women going there would buy themselves drinks, not all but some. The key was to get men in there and the women being there did bring them in and drinks were being bought. I believe they charged the women the same deal and it all got broke up. That place used to be packed. It was fun trying to walk from one end to the other.
Of course we don't know all the details about their costs and such. I think management or ownership and whoever else came leaching screwed up by trying to take advantage too much of the popularity of the place.

In the Dave The Rave piece (google for his blog) about Angels/Nana Disco, he hinted that the reason for the door fee rising may have been due to increasing tea money requests. I honestly have no idea. Maybe it was greed on the part of the owner. We have no way to know why it happened, short of asking the owner, who is an Aussie named Rick apparently.
This is low season, so keep that in mind if you're saying the parking lot has declined dramatically in quality. The real test is how good it is in January.

Yes, the NEP short time hotel still exists on the third floor. It is 300 baht for 2-3 hours. It is a shower (but no hot water) and a bed. They will give you 2 towels and a soap. I don't think there are any others - so there may not be a choice. It is convenient for sure.

At the arrival I walked the long corridors till immigration.

It is possible in most European counties to have two passports. Two identical passports, so you can use one for mongering trips and one for the regular trips and not having to deal with the problems of "loosing" your passport.

always in search of new girls to use i wanted to search chinatown when i was in bangkok. a few posts of late have talked about chinatown and i wanted to see for myself. i recon the area for three days before i decided to sample the goods. in a nutshell chinatown is simply not worth it-not enough girls, they are 4’s at best and the part of chinatown they are in leaves a lot to be desired.
the easiest way to get to the girls is to take the underground subway (called the mrt) to hua lamphong station. that is the last station on that line. when you exit the train go up the escalator and be sure to take exit #1. when you take exit 1 walk straight ahead past the motorbike guys and cross the street. as you cross the street you will walk across a small bridge that goes over a disgusting algae infested river. now after you cross the bridge you will cross a small street. in the photo i attached the tuk tuk in right where the bridge ends. now you will have three streets in front of you. it took me two days of walking up these streets to know what street to go up. if you go up one of the wrong two streets you walk into traditional chinatown-that is the street vendors and food stalls etc. if you walk up the correct street there are no food stalls and street vendors. in the attached photo you will see a red arrow that tells you what the correct street is. instead of food stalls and street vendors you will see storefronts that are warehouses.
there is very little pedestrian traffic along this road. for our purposes this road stretches from the bridge to a traffic circle. it is maybe three or four city blocks long. you will also know you are on the right street because just up ahead you will see a sign for what i think is a strip club called cleopatra. it is a neon red sign (at night) that hangs in front of the building. you cant miss it.
so not that we have covered getting to our “relevant” area we can now discuss the girls. 99% of the girls are on the right hands side of the road. what i actually do though is start on the left side of the road and walk all the way up to the traffic circle. you will only find three or four girls on the left hand side. the are either standing on one of the street corners or are in front of a short time hotel. when i get to the traffic circle i then walk down the right side of the street. it isn’t until the second block that you see the girls. they are usually no more than six in number that i have seen during the daytime and they all seemed to be sitting in front of a short time hotel. there will be one or two girls before that hotel but these women are 35 years old plus and are not attractive at all.
the 35 year old women i have had proposition me for as little as 300 baht. i kid you not. this has happened twice. the girls clustered around the short time hotel do not want anymore than 500 baht. do not pay more than this. the room is only 60 baht for 30 minutes. guys these girls are young (no more than 23 i would say) but are not attractive have poor dental hygiene and do not speak english. there seems to be a woman that sits with them that negotiates for them because she speaks english. she is almost like a mamasan.
after three days of recon i decided to take one for the team. i go in the daytime rather than night because this side of town, especially this street, does not feel safe at night. it is so deserted and so few girls i do not want the discomfort of feeling uncomfortable. it is just not worth it. and the two occasions i went at night i did not see anymore girls than i saw during the daytime. anyhow i went around 1 pm and went to the cluster of girls sitting in front of the short time hotel. after negotiating with the leader of the girls i negotiate only 440 baht for a girl i chose and 60 baht for the room. the girl was moderately attractive (issan, c cup, desperately needed dental work) but i said what the hell. the stairs have a serious incline and lead into a grungy lobby of a short time hotel. there the girl at the counter (if you want to call it that) takes your 60 baht and hands the girl a condom and 2 micro small bars of soap. the rooms are terrible. they are reminiscent of what you would see in short time hotels in south america-but what can you expect for 60 baht? the walls are dirty and the sheets clearly had stains but the room was clean. i took a photo for you guys to see. it has a small shower as well but no a/c.
the girl showered and came out. i was not interested in full service and opted to get a bj and unload two weeks on her face and get some photos. i would have given her 300 baht for the experience. instead this girl refused to do a bj, no pics, no facial..wouldnt even let me nut on her tor**** shaped boobs. she said all she would offer would be to boom boom her dense bush.
i declined. i wanted to give a facial and that was that. i was not going to waste two weeks worth of nut ( and guys we all know how much we can unload after saving up a two week reservoir) on this stiff fish. so i buttoned up and left. it was that simple.
in all i think, as one other post put it, if you have some time to kill then go search chinatown. but it is not worth the trip-the girls are mediocre, the area is gritty and the experience is substandard. i personally like to hunt for my girls and that is what attracted me to chinatown. but after three trips and one experience i will not return.

I bargained a lady down from 900 to 500, all in {tip, tolls included}.
I preferred to avoid the official taxis as IME they drove like maniacs,
acted rude, didn't have seat belts, and the AC was inferior.
For the 500 i also got a newish looking van over an ancient car and
someone who spoke English relatively well.

The sign you posted is saying me: "use the AOT taxi", but there is maybe other signs that is warning from the AOT signs?

The signs reccomends to look for the 'official yellow", ie the guys in yellow jacket, (being agents for the ) AOT LIMOUSINE.
That means, AOT buys your confidence in informing you not to end in a taxi scam and use their services, allegedly presenting themselves as a legitimate taxi company.
They surely are not illegal, they are legitimate BUT, they are not taxi and they do not charge taxi prices.
These services ARE NOT THE METERED TAXI, but limo-service.
So if you do not want to overpay 2-3 times what you can spend in a normal taxi, BEWARE also of AOT yello jackets!:)))
I used the taxi meter from the departure curb, pretty new car, regular driver, got a bit lost to reach LL (but have to say I mixed up the sub-soi) and we both could not the clear street sign of LL. A call to LL sorted out the technicalities and the guy asked wheteher he could a round the block ride to reach LL with a legitimate drive )ie not a funny reverse.
I nodded and the total cost ws barely 300Bt.
Same cost on the way from LL to the airport. With another legitiamte meter taxi. In bothcases I asked how much they'd charge for the ride and both smiled "meter price":) So not all taxi guys are there to pick in our pockets, lol
I think it is still good advice to go up one level to departures, look for someone dropping of, and make sure meter. I paid 225 once, 175 on the meter plus I gave him a tip fo being honest, that was to LL. 300 is max, either way they take you.

I always did this at Don Muang, and a couple of times at Suvarnabhumi. However last week I tried and got waved off by an officious little prick in a uniform. The taxi made no attempt to stop further up the kerb.
The business about "illegal" cabs is playing with words on the part of AOT. The ordinary city cabs are not "official" in that they are not owned by AOT (Airports of Thailand) but they are not "illegal".
Forget the limo unless your ego requires it.
For the normal meter cab, there is a very well-signposted desk where you tell the woman your destination, you get a ticket, jump in the cab at the front of the queue, and off you go. Make sure you have some small money to pay the two toll stations. The cost of the toll is written clearly on the side of the toll booth.
It's a no brainer.
I know people who want to save two or three bucks by walking towards the airport gates and along the way picking up a cab that's dropped someone off. But it's a long walk.
There's a newish bus, Route AE-3, yellow in colour that runs the length of Sukhumvit to and from the airport. It's Baht 150, it leaves from the Public Transportation Centre of the airport, located near the Bangkok Catering Company Building about 5 min. drive from the passenger terminal. You get to the centre from the terminals via a shuttle bus.
Going the other way, that is, to the airport, it actually drops you off at the departure level. (Arriving you have to go to the Public Transportation Centre.)
It's handy for people going direct to Pattaya, because the bus stops at a tranfer terminal where you can get an air con bus to Pattaya.

I'll hope the scamradar is easy to tune in, but I think im a fast learner *ta i trä* (touching wood).
Anyway, all this I have heard about drugdealers putting stuff in other peoples suitcases? Tall tales?

Maybe I'm Cheap Charlie but I think the AE3 is the way to go. Save the baht for a more noble purpose! AE3 is clean, air-conditioned, and comfortable. Crawl in and doze off while the bus heads for Nana. It probably takes longer than a taxi, but it's a hell of a bargain.

What I mean is the signs warn people to only use the official taxi and avoid all others. Outside the door, though, is an official meter taxi stand that does not use the AOT taxi. These are regular meter taxis. I think someone's brother-in-law needed a job, this is the usual reason they have "Official Taxis" with AOT backing.

Yes, it can be confusing, yes it can be dangerous, but don't loose your common sense just because you are in Thailand. Keep you common sense and remember " Don't put yourself in a position of something happening ".
Never take something from anyone especially if you don't know them deliver anything for anyone. If you buy something and it is wrapped always check it again later before you pack your bags.
As for Taxi's, when you walk out of Immigration, there will be many people, and I don't care what color they are wearing just say no and walk past them to the left... out through the spinning glass door to the sidewalk. You will see a taxi booth. Just tell him or her where you want to go, she will give you a slip, if you are going to Bangkok, this slip will include a 50 baht charge. The slip will be given to the next Taxi guy in line. He will take your bags etc... once inside the car... if he doesn't turn on the meter tell him and point to the meter. After that is taken care of tell him or give him a card of the hotel where you are staying. You can always get on the web and print out a map of the hotel. If he ask you tollway, that is extra and depending on the time of day it might be a good idea. If you come in midnight really not necessary! usually around 65 baht total. Like everyone said, meter will be somewhere are 210-300 baht. I last came to BKK by taxi from airport this last January, to Nana Hotel... tops 210 plus 50, I gave him 300 baht. If you take a Taxi to Pattaya, in June, I paid 1500 baht, that included everything along with the tollway charge. The guy did a nice slow job so I gave him a 100 tip.
Personally, unless I need something fancy like a big limo or big van... I just take the taxi that comes from the booth.

going to the departure area is still the best bet..police are moving people along, but taxis still have to stop to drop off passengers and are happy to pick you up, and properly turn on their meters

Nice report Showdown. I were in Chinatown myself during this vacation, but not to find street *****s. I went there for sightseeing reasons and because I was amazed about the atmosphere and the lively street scenes.
Though on one occation I saw some street hookers on the parallel street to Charoen Yaowarat. I guess it's Charoen Krung street.
But, you are right, they are not pretty and I wouldn't do them even not for free.
I thought I could see a ***** house, but I didn't. Anyway, I trip to Chinatown is a nice experience. I like the China Tempels, they are totally different to Thai Wats. Also, the open store and workshop houses are interesting to see.
There are different ways to Chinatown. On is the MRT until Hua Lampong station. But, it's also possible to go there by a river taxi, for example from Saphan Taksin. With the river taxi you will also see some not so famous Wats or Tempels on the river. Some are worth a visit.
At Saphan Taksin, is a Thai Wat in the shape of a Chinese Junk. It's interesting to go there, since at the kwai on the river the water is full of fishes. Thai people go there to feed the fish. It's amazing to she thousends of fish near the surface of the water.
Nearby is a old Marine Landing Ship. Guess it's not more in service.

bangkok's chinatown offers less-expensive sexual adventures than those usually reported here [i wrote this before reading recent reports; obviously this has been a recent topic of discussion]. it is a more locals'-oriented seen, yet the ladies are happy to be with farang.
some time ago i reported on the 300-baht fuck in bangkok and where to get it.
i go to chinatown for other reasons, but sometimes keep my eye out for an opportunity to relax, shower, cool off. aside from the street ladies mentioned in my earlier report, where you pay a modest fee, separately, for the lady and for the room, massage parlours often offer services.
yaowarat soi 2, for example, often has ladies waiting for customers in the street, like i described before. it's easy to find on google maps. the massage parlors on that street might be better than sw, and the ladies sit outside the mp, so what you see is what you get. i got many offers from both sw and mp in that area.
yesterday i was strolling down soi 2 alley and at one massage parlor, a lady from chiang mai with thai nickname pim offered a massage. i wasn't ready, so she suggested i come back later. i did.
she was happy to let me take a shower ("ahb nam dai mai" is how you ask), gave me a very good massage, was friendly, and after the massage asked if i needed anything else. it was clear that sexual satisfaction was on the menu, in part because she had observed my fireman coming to attention and commented on it, and also because she patted my balls under the towel at one point.
can make love? can. tao rai (how much)? hok roi baht (600 baht), but then pointed out that was in addition to the previously agreed 200 baht fee for the massage.
pim has a child, and being late 20s / early 30s just a bit of chub, otherwise she is firm, strong, and not half bad to look at. much better than the 300-baht lady previously described, but not as young and beautiful as nana ladies, who generally cost about 2100 baht including bar fine, after you buy them a drink or two. for 900 baht total (see below) she was just want i needed then.
it is a large, open room with curtains between the massage palettes. visual privacy only, but there was nobody else in the room.
she was friendly, responsive, cooperative with various positions. i decided to go for a bit of daty and she seemed to enjoy it. finishing in mish, she encouraged me gently to come soon, but otherwise she did not rush me. fortunately, i was ready to do just that. a minor quibble is that she was not much for kissing, though she allowed some of that, not dfk.
she speaks limited english, i speak a little thai, both of us were patient with language. ability to speak thai not required but may make them more friendly. a simple sawadee cop will help.
when it was time to pay, i gave her a 1000b note, but received only 100b in change. asked her about this, she claimed she said 700b, but i know for sure she said "hok roi baht" (600b). i did not fight it: the extra 100b became her tip for good service.
most likely local boys are charged less, and perhaps you could bargain down if you are willing to risk service quality.
the chinese/thai seafood restaurant at the corner of soi 2 (past the bend) and soi 4 was a good way to ease the appetite i built in my session.

therapeutic massage: 7 (too much focus on using thumbs, pressed hard, but otherwise very good)

I just think for many reasons the fl are a slowly shrinking breed - overall fewer girls getting into the biz, sponsors taking many of the best out of the biz, more financial security working in beer bars or go-go bars, police harrassment, fewer places to work and a more dangerous work environment. That is why I think you see so many fewer young girls coming on the fl scene - they have better options.
This is just idle chat, so please don't take it as criticism .. I'm probably no closer to the truth than you are ..
I would think that for every sponsored girl, two or three would take her place in the hopes of landing a sponsor themselves. What better incentive to take the plunge?
And I think the environment is becoming safer and safer: the girls themselves are evidence of a dangerous environment. More safety, less girls.
Working in a beer bar or a gogo, the salary is around 6000 or 8000 baht a month, according to various girls (from Sukhumvit beer bars and Patpong gogos). If you don't supplement that, you won't send back a lot to the parents. For this to be better than FL, I think you'd have to get only one customer every three days.
I agree that girls have better options: Thailand is becoming richer. More jobs, more money, better education than 10, 20 years ago. Not so?
I went to Beergarden today for a lunch and the following happend.
The waitress came over and I could see that she is in a very bad mood. So, I said sawadee khap to cheer her up. She looked at me as if I would told her old hag. So, I repeat sawadee Khap and she replied some in Thai what I not understood, but sounds not so friendly. So, I said 3rd time sawadee khap and she replied sawadee khap, which is not friendly, since she should reply sawadee khaa, except she was a ladyboy.
Ok, I ordered 29 on the menue (marinated beef with noodles and salad). I told her that I want my salad without onions and tomatos. I got the impression that she didn't understand well and so I repeated no onion no tomato, me au khap onion and tomato. So, she went away without answer if she understood.
Another waitress came by. I know her from before and told her that she should explain her colleague that I don't want onions and tomatos on my salad, since I believe she didn't understand. The waitress followed the one.
After a while the unfriendly waitress came back, with a potato salad. I said that's not what I ordered, I just want 29 from the menue and the salad should be without onion and tomatos. She replied I had ordered potato salad. I said no, please take it back. Second waitress came over and I explain her, too. Both were not happy, but took the potato salad away.
After a while unfriendly waitress came back, with a bowl of salad, with onion and tomato and the dish with marinated beef and potato salad. I said no, the green salad should be without onion and tomato and the main dish with noodles and not with potato salad.
Now they were serious angry, but brought the dish and salad back, but yelled with other waitrer and Thai bar girls, about the stupid Farang. rofl.
After a long while they came back with a dish of marinated beef and noodle which was right and a bowl of green salad, but with tomatos.
So, I just took the tomatos out of the salad and eat the staff.
Needless to say, that this was my last visit in Beergarden, which isn't a big loss for me, since the cuter girls can be found in new wave.

I'm new at p4p with a trip to BKK for 4 days last August. I had a great soapy at Nataree and visited NEP to see what it was all about. But other than a few beers with an English guy and the barmaid in the centre bar I didn't even enter any of the go-gos.
I have a 12 day trip planned for end of August but couldn't wait so came for a long weekend just past. I had Friday night in Singapore staying in the Geylang area. DG69, I read that the owner of the Biergarden had just recently died and the funeral was on the 23rd. That may be the reason the girls aren't too happy. Guys, correct me if I'm wrong.
Taxi from airport-LBM is right just ignore all til you head out main doors and go to the booth. I paid 350 including tolls to the hotel doorstep on Soi 11 in about a half hour. No hassle, clean cab with seat belts too.

Thanks for all advices. Normaly there's no problem for me when im out by my self, either it's home or in a foreign country. But, im allergic to scams and scam-people and I have a habit to never shut my mouth up when I maybe just should do and just walk away. Either it's a scam against me or I observe another poor creature. So, I often end up laying on the ground xD
But the trick is to avoid these situations who will end up in trouble as you say. Actually I will say that im good to pick up the signals from my surroundings and do a quick analysis and know what to do and not to do and use common sense.

The tip of going up to the departure area... is tough now since they have barriers and police to move things along. After the demontration it got worse.
I knew that the departure area trick was an old one and in more recent times got sort of stopped by police etc.
Nevertheless I did it approx 1 week after the demonstrations back in april. I was curiout to see if ti worked, ready to step back and use the normal way. Worked out fine, nobody refrained me from doing it, and I did not do it hiding it.
Thre are indeed some sort of barriers on the drive, so that taxi cannot stand there and wait for customers, that's clear.
It is a drop off point.
Taxi driver was keen to bring me on board having just dropped a customer.
True that even on the upper floor there are taxi touts offering you any sort of deal, destination (did not try to see wheteher they sell sisters and mothers too.. LOL)
I went to Beergarden today for a lunch and the following happend.
The waitress came over and I could see that she is in a very bad mood. So, I said sawadee khap to cheer her up. She looked at me as if I would told her old hag. So, I repeat sawadee Khap and she replied some in Thai what I not understood, but sounds not so friendly. So, I said 3rd time sawadee khap and she replied sawadee khap, which is not friendly, since she should reply sawadee khaa, except she was a ladyboy.
Ok, I ordered 29 on the menue (marinated beef with noodles and salad). I told her that I want my salad without onions and tomatos. I got the impression that she didn't understand well and so I repeated no onion no tomato, me au khap onion and tomato. So, she went away without answer if she understood.
Another waitress came by. I know her from before and told her that she should explain her colleague that I don't want onions and tomatos on my salad, since I believe she didn't understand. The waitress followed the one.
After a while the unfriendly waitress came back, with a potato salad. I said that's not what I ordered, I just want 29 from the menue and the salad should be without onion and tomatos. She replied I had ordered potato salad. I said no, please take it back. Second waitress came over and I explain her, too. Both were not happy, but took the potato salad away.
After a while unfriendly waitress came back, with a bowl of salad, with onion and tomato and the dish with marinated beef and potato salad. I said no, the green salad should be without onion and tomato and the main dish with noodles and not with potato salad.
Now they were serious angry, but brought the dish and salad back, but yelled with other waitrer and Thai bar girls, about the stupid Farang. rofl.
After a long while they came back with a dish of marinated beef and noodle which was right and a bowl of green salad, but with tomatos.
So, I just took the tomatos out of the salad and eat the staff.
Needless to say, that this was my last visit in Beergarden, which isn't a big loss for me, since the cuter girls can be found in new wave.Before the boss died I had similar experience, and once I told the boss or ass boss they should be carefull of ladies tricking farang. They told me better do not come anymore here. I can scare of clients. I said. Lady not good not me. Mai pen rai you better go. You speak bad! Did not understand this attitude.

if he doesn't turn on the meter tell him and point to the meter. After that is taken care of tell him or give him a card of the hotel where you are staying. You can always get on the web and print out a map of the hotel.As we were leaving the airport I told my driver to turn the meter on. He kept saying he would pay the tolls, so it would "only" cost me 500 baht.
I know that was a rip off and insisted her turn the meter on, but I could not een find it in the car.
Finally, when I wrote his name down on the paper they had given me at the airport, he moved a small towell that he had placed on the console over the meter to hide it. It had been on all along, but he didn't want me to see it.
When we arrived at my hotel the charge, including 70 for tolls, came to 281 baht. I demanded full change, right to the exact baht.

The other thing you need to watch is the meter might have been running prior to you getting into the cab. This will probably happen more in town, if you happen to get into a cab, just as the previous passenger exits. Make sure the meter gets turned on as you enter.
Just another "double dipping" little scam. Not indigenous to Thailand though.
My two cents from one is a business/tourist/monger traveling to LOS for short (3. 10 days at a time.) 4 or 5 time a year for the last three years: I have haggled or otherwise tried the different means to get from airport to Sukhumvit (where I normally stay.). And remember this is just my take on it. The difference between taking the "green/yellow/ "o-fficial" taxis from the "o-fficial" departure cab stand and haggling is at most 3-4 USD! After a long flight, I readily pay the 400THB (vs. The 280 or whatever.) just to make it a hassle free experience. Never am asked to pay tolls or tip or any other BS. Again, not a judgement on what others do, but in the overall scope of things, not a big deal.

But its fun or how to say when some companys tries to act like the scamfree ones and BS-talk the metertaxis outside, hanging up signs and things. If the Mamasan tries to protect the girl and say its all your fault, then please post the story on ISG and others and let people know that that bar is not "customer friendly".
Regulation, complaints and the bad press is the only way to ensure bars ensure their girls perform, by ensuring the girls they employ leave lots of happy customers and not lots of unhappy ones.

I thought I was the only one with that problem. Now I get the impression that it is growing like a disease. In the old days I never had this problem. You made a deal and that was it. If a girl was good a bonus, if not the amount and time agreed. Now I either get stuck up with girls who first agreed to stay longtime and suddenly try the short time BS. Of course demanding LT pay. Or I get the sleepy head. Which means after a very poor performance expecting to sleep the rest of her LT stay. Most of them are so bored they want to leave at six or seven in the morning. Just to avoid an early morning second fuck.
The worst experience I got this time was from an old contact. She used to be very good so I called her. Thinking at least one night without problems. How wrong I was. First she was far too late and when I was ready to start the fun this one had the nerves to ask full payment and insisting to leave because she taught she had the Mexican flu. Personally I think she had breezer complex. Anyway I gave her money for the taxi and showed her the direction of the hotel door. This lady even told me when she came she was starting an escort. What a joke.
The scene changes imo and many girls lack any professional attitude.

It's true that you might have gotten a better LT price with a little haggling, and her price was a bit higher than I have spent for LT, but she also spent all day with you, not just the night. Haggling sometimes puts a damper on the evening. OTOH, too high an asking price puts me off to the lady, too, because it often says something about her attitude that becomes more obvious later.
The claim that paying too high a price to one lady will suddenly cause all the others to raise their prices seems plain silly to me. I am paying pretty much the same prices for lady and BF that I have for five years, at least in Baht. So no need to apologize for a price you both found agreeable.
As for the shower alone? Some girls are shy about washing their privates, and cleanliness seems paramount to many Thai ladies. Even when a lady showers with me, some want me to finish and leave first. But I also feel awkward if she won't shower with me at least a little while - it's part of the fun I think I'm paying for.

You can see it in many places, when a disco, club, restaurant is newly opend and the staff is fresh, they behave respectful and even obedient. If they are too long in the business, some become spoiled (maybe through huge tips) and arrogant.
Though this special waitress, a chubby middle aged one, I didn't saw in previous visit.
I enjoyed the food in Beergarden, but for me it wasn't the best Freelancer spot anyway. I took the last 3 visits in Thailand no girl from there. Where yesterday in Angel Disco at 11:15 pm. I just were curious if on the last night the club was full. I didn't went there for a drink, since I don't wanted take advantage of the misfortune of that club. I were there often a few years ago, but the last years not and so I thought it wouldn't be right to go there and suck some drinks out of them.
Well, the place were full, many farangs but also girls. Saw some pretty ones as well. No, entrance fee, the girl at the entrance told me the drinks would be free and even in the toilett, no toilett slave aeh, toilett guy who tried to get a tip out of you.
So, it was real free love, no strings attached. ;-)
Well, I guess the club would still rock if they wouldn't had a entrance fee before and if the drinks would be around the 100 Baht range. I think that would be the way to success for that place.
I felt pitty for the place, because it would be the perfect FL spot in the time range from 10 pm - 2 am.
So, I hope there will be a new disco in that place and with a better concept. All, the best to the previous owner of Angel Disco.

I think you have a perfect right to complain about the service. It happens to me a lot but when it comes to food, I don't complain too much especially in Asian country. I just take as it comes as long as it's close to what I want. Even when I'm home if they make a mistake and it's not easily corrected I just go with the flow why? because when they bring it back you just don't know what the fuck is happening to it!
I have worked in my best friends restaurant cleaning up tables when I was small and I can tell you I did my share of messing with people food when it came back and the waiter though the customer was ruded or they treated me poorly. I'll give it to you shockingly so you remember it when it comes to food. I seen a cook even reach in his pants and pull a dick hair out and stir fried it into the fried noodles. Never complaint too much in a restaurant.. That's a shame about Angel Disco, the last night it is jam pack like old days, hopefully the new owners learn that you can't get stupid and greedy!

biergarden on soi 7 used to be a great place to pick up girls, but the ones i find there now are either missing in the looks or attitude department to demand the prices they are quoting. nice place if you aren't looking to pay a bar fine or have someone walk up to you every five minutes and point at the stage as if you can't see what is going on. look for nok. she always sits by the stairs and is always mistaken for a ladyboy because she is so tall. i've known her for years and she's a super cool girl. the girls there now aren't getting many customers and i don't understand elevating the price and expecting to attract more business. higher prices means less money to spend when on a budget so of course i'm not going to take a girl as often as i would have before.

annie's is now charging 1700 for girls that aren't that good looking and 2500 for the self-proclaimed stars. i chose one of the stars recently and was very disappointed. she was letter "k" and looked nice until the clothes came off. two kids and a hurry up attitude didn't do it for me so i actually got my clothes on after the first pop and walked out the door without the girl. i used to really like the place, but the price now does not justify the quality and service i've had on this trip and my last short trip earlier this year.
there are lots more african girls between soi 5 and the crossover to nana standing by the road than i saw six months ago. they were quoting 1,500 for short time while most girls on the walkway seemed to want 1,000.
one thing i am not crazy about in the area is the arab population. why do these modest and religious people choose to spend so much time in a bangkok red-light district? the girls say they are rude, cheap, and abusive. it is just a matter of time before some nut blows himself up in nana.
i ended up spending most of my time in pattaya this trip when i wasn't island hopping...
maybe i'm going to take a look at the philippines next trip or take another trip to central america because thailand isn't what it used to be.

What you experience is what I went through, what goes around comes around. Then I take a break for a while and come back and things change for the better.
NicFrenchy, is right they come for medical treatment and services at Bumrungrad which is right across the street. You go up to the physical checkup floor and you think you are in Mecca. They use to stay on the otherside of Sukhumvit around Grace Hotel now they have moved across the street down Soi 4, past Nana Hotel, around the Raja Hotel Area. Personally it just creeps me out when I see a women all cover up in black.

@LBM, you are quite right with your assumption, but as long as you don't know it, your pulse will not increse. Nevertheless anywhere else I hadn't any problems, since I am usually relaxed and laid back. Also, I were in Beergarden, but this waitress were not and she was full of shit, told lies and complain, while she was totally wrong. Ok, im long over it, but I will not more visit Beergarden. Guess that will not ruin the place, but it's a principle.;-)
Also, I will not loose much, since there are alot of other restaurants around and better looking girls can be found in new wave (soi 7) and in the evening all over lower Sukhumvit, from Gulliver, between Soi 3 and Soi 5 and of corse along Soi 4 and in and around Thermae.
Regarding the Arabs, I don't have a problem with them. They are mostly there with their 4 wifes for shopping, medical checks and what else. I even like the Ninja girls. When I worked in the magic kingdom (KSA) the eyes of the ninja girls where the only highlight during the day. Though it was the only female bodypart to be seen.
As I am said I am a laid back guy, but I really don't like the Indians in Thailand. They are usually rude, have no manners and are a real pain in the ass. I really didn't liked them in Saudi Arabia, VAE and now in Thailand. The Tailors are real molesting and the Indian tourists are often a plague. When they walk down the street they will not make place for others. They not excuse when they bump into others and they will not stay in the line at a counter. I like Indian Food, but I will never go in an Indian restaurant, to support Indians.
Maybe it's wrong to say the Indians, maybe 99% of the Indians are alright, but I met only the 1% which is a real pain in the ass, to deal with.

Many say in earlier days Thailand were better and now it's going down hill. Well, I have 17 years of Thailand experience and would disagree with that. Ok, 17 years back price for a LT were 800 Baht in Phuket and 200 Baht barfine at a Beerbar. I don't remember the prices for LT in BKK and the barfine at GoGo, but since them the Baht lost on value (think it was 1999). In the early 1990 the Dollar were 24 - 25 Baht, now it's 34 Baht. I am German and before the DM were about 15 Baht, now a Euro (worth about 2 DM) is 48 Baht. Also, prices used to rise over the time. So, keep that in mind the prices in Thailand are still, Ok.
Maybe the attitude became worse. Though I am not sure about that. In the early 1990 the I found the traveling in Thailand much more difficult. Not much speak English, now many do. Also, the traffic jam in the early 90 were a real pain in the ass. It has inproved since then.
I guess the real bad thing are the increase of sponsors. In the former time there were less sugar daddy's and sponsors whose spoil the better looking chicks.

There's a newish bus, Route AE-3, yellow in colour that runs the length of Sukhumvit to and from the airport. It's Baht 150, it leaves from the Public Transportation Centre of the airport, located near the Bangkok Catering Company Building about 5 min. drive from the passenger terminal. You get to the centre from the terminals via a shuttle bus.
How do you get the Shuttle? What Floor/ Gate?
I had a girl from Firecat Agogo in Patpong. The club doesn't excists anymore.What a great bar that was back in the mid-80s. It was still going a few years ago but like a lot of the Patpong upstairs bars it had degenerated into a clip joint.
My main complaint with the Bangkok scene these days is that so much of it is brutally commercial. The innocence and a lot of the fun are long long gone. I was in Rainbow 3 the other night for the first time in years and to me it was a nightmare -- fake boobs, fake noses, hairstyles and makeup like Japanese manga, and a really hardcore you-buy-me-drink you-pay-barfine attitude. No thanks.
That's a shame about Angel Disco, the last night it is jam pack like old days, hopefully the new owners learn that you can't get stupid and greedy!

2. don't do anything to drive the girls away, but rather do what it takes to LURE them there (example: give the girls a drink commission to encourage guys to buy them drinks)
3. why not expand the club to include the area that has that stupid little useless bar in front? otherwise it's just too tiny
I suppose by now the hotel has figured out that its clientele isn't exactly bothered by the existence of a nightclub like this on its ground floor, but rather the opposite. So f***ing with the nightclub (by harrassing them over use of the toilets, etc) is contrary to their financial interests. So their concern over toilet use has resulted in a huge decline in room occupancy. I wouldn't say the hotel shot themselves in the foot so much as they shot themselves in the stomach. Why stay at that hotel now? It used to be a great location due to proximity to both NEP and the disco. Now the disco's gone, it makes much more sense to stay somewhere along Suk that's equidistant to NEP and SC, or even closer to SC since that's generally considered the more interesting area for most these days (thanks in large part to the disco closing).
I wouldn't say that soi cowboy is a better place for entertaining purpose. I like both places, even I like Nana a bit more.
What are the diffrence between Nana and SC?
1. In Soi Cowboy are no Ladyboys. For me it's not a plus, since I have a good LB radar, I am never so drunken that I don't know what I do. Beside it's sometimes funny to see ladyboys and their customer. So, it adds some sleaze which is good, imho.
2. Nana have some damn good spot to see pretty girls to my likeing. Rainbow 4 for example has some nice looking girls, but also Spanky, Playschool and Mandarin. Ok, in SC you can see nice girls in Sharks, Dollhouse and on weekends in Tilac, but in Tilac they were skirts, while in Nana the girls wear only strings. All, in all I would say Nana has more stunners.
3. Opposite Nana you have a better street walker scene at Nana Parking Lot and at Soi 4 and between Soi 3 and 5.
4. Around Nana you can find CIS girls and African girls.
So, Nana is more sleazy and SC more steril, imho. So, I like more Kinky Nana.

Much of what you said is true.. but the size. I must disagree...but everyone is going to have a opinion on this. In regards to the door charge it seem as the place got more crowded like most observation of Thai thinking greed kicks in and they saying our place is packed we are the game in town and so why not charge for a entry fee. There seem to be a regular pack of girls that always were there can't remember now but one gave me a impression they were getting something for being there and bringing in the customer.
As the place started going down hill they got the mentality that if the girls weren't going to come to the bar why should they get to use the bathroom. Like a sign that said bathroom for customer only! Along with that they continue down the path of destruction by continuing and refusing to get rid of the door charge. Does it make sense to you if the place is empty, why are you still charging. If you go back a few pages you might see a post that identify the manager and the problems that might contributed to the downfall. As a freelancer why would you go to a empty place and stand around so that you could just use the bathroom. Whoever the owner or manager was one has to wonder WTF are you thinking.
Even if new money comes into the picture if they still charge at the door they might as well don't bother in my opinion. If they can't throw free money to attract back the customer and continue to keep the place pack! Don't bother! How do you charge at the door and after the first drink still charge 170 baht for a Heniken? and the place is empty, the only girl you see worth taking him and getting drunk is your left or right hand! If they ever open again as a Disco, free, free, free, and add 5 baht to a drink, most customer won't notice a thing if they are having a good time and girls wall to wall even if it is the same girl because of the mirrors.

Some great ideas there. I believe people stopped going because of the door fee and then girls stopped coming as a result of fewer farang. That's what did it for me and the place was one of the best reasons to stay at Nana hotel in my opinion. I used to walk up to the door and look inside after the fee change and it was dead...nothing like when it was difficult to walk through the place and you had girls grabbing you all the way out. At the end of the night the parking lot was full of girls waiting to get picked up. It was a sea of possibility.

I wouldnt' say SC is better either. I strongly agree with you about #2 -- RB4 my favorite bar of all, for obvious reasons. SC is my Plan B. I just meant that most members I see on these forums prefer SC. Funny, they mostly seem to think SC is the sleazier one. Yes, the car park is another attraction there. I also have no problems with lady boys, any more than I do the elephants. Funny, those guys who have that problem... you know maybe it's not the ladyboys that are the problem, maybe it's your drinking. I'm not a fan of the CIS girls (speaking of elephants -- ooh, ok thats not fair) so again, not a factor for me.

Regarding the Arabs, I don't have a problem with them. They are mostly there with their 4 wifes for shopping, medical checks and what else. I even like the Ninja girls. When I worked in the magic kingdom (KSA) the eyes of the ninja girls where the only highlight during the day. Dave the Rave's site had a piece about this place a few days ago -- and he mentioned the owner as a friend of his, and sort of hinted that tea money may have played a role in the rising door fee. Not sure that's true or not. Complaints about the place were common on forums like this for years, and the whole thing you describe about the toilets (another was the girls being frisked and searched when entering for carrying booze in) just adds up to the place being run badly -- the guy was oblivious to the complaints apparently, maybe the only farang in Thailand who doesn't read the internet. If he did, then why not address the issues, for example by posting on the net (as Dave does) if it really was beyond his control. And there's no excuse for harrassing the girls. Again, if you know your place is all about guys picking up girls, why mess with the girls? I mean, of course theyre not going to be able to pay these jacked up liquor prices. They're not your customers, the guys are. But anyway, I can think of plausible explanations other than that the owner was clueless -- but why isn't he online explaining why it happened? I mean, apparently this Dave talked with him before putting the story up -- and theres almost no info in that one either.

You can either sell more at a lower price and capture profit or do it the Thai way and sell fewer at a larger profit and lose business. The bar fines are getting a bit expensive too. You can get a short timer in Pattaya for the price of some bar fines. How is this good business when fewer tourists are visiting Thailand? I would hesitate to bar fine a girl in a go go unless I had prior experience with her so these bar fines are hurting the girl's business. If you're going to be charging greater prices you better be providing better quality or you're going to lose business. I want to open a club with minimal bar fines and reasonable drinks which means more girls would be taken by happier customers and we'd have more asses in seats which would attract better looking girls. The snowball effect.

Well, Syzygy X, I am not sure if there is a forum rule not to insult a special group of people, or single persons. I think I did it myself when I wrote that I don't like the Indians, because of my experience with them. I met a guy in Pattaya who has Indian roots, but he was grown up in Canda and he is a very fine and good mannered guy. I guess many Indians are good guys, too. Just the ones in Thailand don't behave in a way how we would expect it as good manners in western countries.
Well, most likely they have their own standards, nevertheless I do not like how they don't make space for others, instead jostle everybody in their way, without a word of sorry. They don't stay in line on a counter and so on.
Arabs are not exactly the same. They are a bit more thoughtful and even friendly when you treat them in the same way like you would like to be treaten. There laws and rules are not fair for outsider, but personally I had never problems with Arabs. I like their food and their women are beautiful. Just a pity that they are so well guarded.;-)
Btw. Pakistanian are no Arabs. They are rather familar with north western Indians.
But, back to Bangkok. When I am walking in Soi 3 I don't get bad looks. I even went once in the Grace Hotel to check the Disco there, had no Problems. The most Arabs nowadays are together with their wives. So, imho they come for shopping and medical checks, mainly. Indian guys in Thailand go there for mongering. Seldom saw Indian guys with Indian chicks. So, as a fact Indians are much more a kind of competition, though the lower class Indians stick more with the cheaper street *****s, since they have not the money for the GoGos. Richer Indians prefer with girls and you will find them in CM2, Spicy, Bossy to chase CIS and expat girls.

Their are many Arabs in the NEP area of BKK. I don't like how certain peoples, often very fat, walk in that area side by side on the sidewalk, blocking it like they own it, and make you walk around them. Word from TGs is they are very cheap and smelly. One girl told me one of them at 7-11 was staring down her bra at her big boobs and she slapped him in the face!
As for staying in line, I read recently that it is customary for Thais to also butt in out of turn, unless their is a cord like at a theatre such as Siam Paragon, or at a bank machine lineup. I found this has happened to me a few times, such as at a grocery store or skytrain station. Best not to start a fight and have 100 Thais on top of you beating you bloody and unconscious; PP,
You surprise me on this post. Let's not make accusasations on nationalities or race here, it is a pointless and stupid debate. I get accused of being farang but I'm an islander.
I look at girls big boobs also and often joke if I can play with them (you would be surprised how many times that has worked also), and I've had guys pinch my TGF's ass when we are in elevators or walking down the street, families walk down Sukhumvit / nana area with strollers blocking everything, African girls jump out and accost you in certain areas and the LB's are all over in some areas, many farang walk side by side even with their rent a wife's for a few hours, and yes if you snooze you loose when standing in line waiting to pay. You also have many Thai wait for us dumb foreigners and ask us to go ahead of them. Sometimes people are rushed for their work or such and it is polite to let them go ahead of you if you are not rushed. But this happens in many countries not just thai.
This is some of the joy's of BKK that make it unique. Many Arabs are clean and nice and enjoyable people and then you got bad ones that give all Arabs a bad name also. But same for you German's, English, French, American's, Canadians, Aussies, etc.
Soi 3 is just the area where many of the Arabs are located. So there is a higher concentration of the good and the bad. I will agree that many Arabs do not set / show the best example of their country when on holiday, but neither do the other nationalities that are in BKK.
My experience in late 2008-early 2009 is that SW prices were the same, but quality of service improved. Ladies seemed more desperate for getting customers, by their agressiveness on the street, via phone, and in general guys being more able to be the boss & dictate terms.I am not sure if the number of tourists whose come because of mongering reasons, dropped so tramatically. The shear number of tourists might have dropped, but that my be because there are less package tours from Russia, China and what ever country else.
I got this feeling that the number of Indians and Arabs tourists have not been dropped.
Ok, the bars are less full like in November, but we have now low season. Many Mongers don't care to much about the political situation. The first tourists whose came back after the Tsunami in Phuket were Mongers, because they thought the prices will be low.
So, the price of mongering is much more an issue.
The prices of drinks in GoGos and Clubs are quite high, compare to the price of sex. Imagine a beer in a usual disco is about 180 Baht. A ST will costs you 1000. 2000 Baht (depending how good looking the girl is, or how ugly the customer). So, the price of sex is about 5. 10 beers.
The prices for accomodation, transportation, shopping, restaurants, etc are low as well. So, the whole package is still OK I would say. Nevertheless I think the Gogos make not more so much money with selling sex, but with Alcohol.
Guess the girls earn still enough with tips, ladydrinks and their income.
I do very seldom barfine, since it's possible to find enough freelancer.
As long as there is no cheap alternative, many mongers will still go to Thailand.

Then within cultures there's also differences. Here in VN I saw an Indian walk into a hostess bar, and the girl I was with begged off of our having a drink because she said he was her really good customer. He was tall, handsome (in that Bollywood leading man way) and dressed classy, expensive watch, etc. My guess is he was a well-off businessman, probly upper class. This is not a guy who would try to shove his way to the front of a queue at 7-11. So there's also class differences and individual differences involved. I mean, imagine if Thais judged whites according to the English football hooligan types they saw in Pattaya. Humans seemed to be programmed to think in this irrational way, switching to "THEY" so easily and associating "they" with a particular race,automatically. But if a red cube doesn't roll down a slope, but a blue ball does, you don't think it's due to their colors. If a vast majority of balls you saw were blue, and cubes red, you might be forgiven for thinking so, but hopefully you'd still be able to figure out that it's not the color. But the shapes do correspond to 'culture' -- so as long as you realize there's variation in Indian culture -- strong trends but also significant deviations, then you're on the path to a healthier way of looking at it. IMHO.

ShamucNo, problem Shamuc. You will be out of airport within 30-60 min. Than take a taxi at the platform in front of the departure level (which is a level higher than arrival) and you will be in your Hotel in less than 30 min (guess it's along Sukhumvit).
So, it's now 4 qm maybe 3:30 am. Take a quick shower and take a taxi to Spicy at Rung Muang Soi 1, if you looking Ok and fit. You will not have a problem to find a pretty Freelancer.
If you are not more in the mood for a disco or club, just walk up and down lower Sukhumvit, there are quite pretty girls until early morning.

After Hours If you’re not into the lame weekend crowds of the more popular After Hours places, check out Boss Club on Petchaburi 39. I went there for the first time last week. It’s surprisingly close as well to Suk Soi 4 as Petchaburi 39 is right by the Suk Soi 3 and Petchaburi Road intersection.
I heard that The Tunnel which has been closed for a little while, is re-opening next week. Will share more info. as it comes. Also, Lucky seems to be closed now so After After Hours is now dominated by Swing.
Other After Hours clubs: Bossy Club, Spice, and Spicy are still going strong and later and later every week, although Spice has been closed early a few times in the past few weeks. Farang speak too much!!

I started my Thailand vacation yesterday. Wish to contribute on different issues at specific threads. As I am a newbie, although this is 3rd time for me in LOS, my reports will be from a newbie'e perspective.
Arrived in Bangkok (Subarnavumi International Airport) at around 2 PM. A different expereince from the start as I see many are wearing masks for H1N1 flu. Anyway, after immigration (which is always a easy process, if you fill out the Arrival Document Form properly and can answer a few questions from the immigration officer such as where are staying, how long etc.), proceeded to collect my luggage and walked thru the customs. If you have large size luggage, then they will scan again, but if nothing suspicious or you don't act weird, they will not ask to open your bags.
The arrival is on the 2nd level of the airport terminal. As you walk past customs, as you come out, you will see an Taxi/ Bus Booth (An AOT Booth) on your left and money exchange booth in front. Most likely you will see exit gates 2 or 3 in front you. I proceeded on the right, passed the awaiting greeters of incoming passengers, taxi hawkers etc. After walking past 2 minutes (I am still inside the terminal), there is Left Luggage office, right beside Tourist Police Office. The Left Luggage Office is managed by Chubb Inc., a private company. I left one of my 2 pieces of luggage as I won't be needing that for this part of the journey. The cost is 100 baht per day.
After this, I proceeded to 3rd level by escelators, where restaurants are, to eat my launch. Then I came down to the 1st level. Here as yoo walk towards your left you will moving towards gate number 8 (the last exit gate). Near the gate you will see Bell Transportation Booth for you to go to Pattaya. Near the gate, you will also see a booth for City Bus, the AE Bus Service (I am still inside the terminal and has not exited the building yet). In the City Bus Booth, I purchased a Ticket for Bus number AE3 to go to Sukhumvit. The Ticket cost 150 Baht. The Bus was waiting right outside the gate on the street and I didn't have to to take a Shuttle to go to another terminal. If you are travelling Solo and only have a piece of luggage, then it is a good way to go to Sukhumvit. Once inside the Bus, they will ask you where you hotel is and will drop you on Sukhumvit Road on the Soi (Thai for Road or Street) that you hotel is on. Then you have to walk to your hotel.

I arrived around 4:30 PM. Took a shower. Then started my day in LOS. As I walked on the Sukhuvit Road, there were lots of tourists, mainly Arabs and Indiand and of course Europeans mainly in couple or with familis strolling down the road and making walking on teh street bewteen the street vendors very difficult.
In my previous visit a year ago, I noticed many freelancers on the street. This time not so. Also, the quality of girls is not the same compared to last time I was here. I walked down to where the Robinson Department Store is near Soi 17 (or is it Soi 18), near Asok BTS Station (an elevated Subway Line), and then walked up to Nana Entertainment Plaza, near Soi three. On my way, I stopped at Beer Garden on Soi 7, a famous bar/ restaurant, where freelancers hang. Saw the place not crowded (but it was early). I did this (walking from NEP to/ from Robinsons Department Store) 5/6 times and my feet started to hurt. I was looking for a freelancer that would caught my eye but I got dissapointed as times passed. There are a few freelancers, along with lado boys, standing near the Sturbucks. I spoke to a few of them, and no one seem to interested for LT. So, I asked for ST rate, and they were quoting 1000 baht. I settled for 700 baht for one of them as it was near 9 pm.
We came back to the hotel. I was tired from long travel, from 2 hours of constant walking and I hadn't had s*x for 2 months. So, it was over quickly. Her attitude and performance was mechanical, so that didn't help either. Anyway, I let her go as per contract. Came down for dinner in one of many restaurants near the hotel. Then straight to bed.

Ok. Here I go again. I realize that no newbies will benefit from my report if they are looking for message parlors that specializes in full service. I am more of a free lancer type of a guy. Save me the cost of buying drink which may or may not bring any result and also save me the cost of barfine if there is one.
The 2nd day I basically did some touristy stuff and visited my favourite mall of all places the Siam Paragon Center. I haven't seen this much contrast in wealth within so close of a distance. There are beggers on the street asking for baht, and you have the shops in this mall where a product is selling in 5 figure if not more. Beside that, its beautifull inside :)
Anyway, one other thing that I would like to mention is the exchange rates. It seems different banks/ agents give you different rate, which you can see tyhru the glass window. If you look at few of these exchange places, you may get a difference of 70 baht on the dollar. The one I find usually have better rates is the one opposite beergarden on Soi 7 or the one as you enter Soi 7, close to New Wave.
In the evening, I strolled around Sulhumvit again like the day before. There are few more girls this evening and quite a few them in from of Thermae, Soi 15. One of them smiles at me as I walk by and I return the favor. We talk a little on the side and she seems to have good attitude. We settle 800 for ST and head for our hotel.

I've been living in Rangsit for a little over a year and had to travel to BKK for action until today. Today I found a great massage/restaurant that can compete with any of the establishments in Bangkok as far as the quality and quantity of the girls are concern. Over the past 10 years, sex workers from the former Soviet Union have arrived in Thailand. What started as a small trickle of Russian women eventually became a flood, with women from Uzbekistan taking the lead, followed by women from all over the former Soviet Union.
Most recently, a few women from Kazakhstan and Tajikistan have started to arrive in Thailand, joining foreign sex workers from India, Turkey, the Middle East, Morocco and other African countries. However, these other foreign nationals only number in the dozens, while the Uzbekis are here in the hundreds.
Spectrum has conducted a lengthy investigation over several months, interviewing Russian and Uzbeki sex workers (in the Russian language) to discover why and how they got here, the way they operate, who controls them and also to gain an insight into their lives here and back home.
All the women we spoke to, no matter where they came from and in spite of their different upbringings, had several things in common _ most were aged between 30 and 40 and came from a poor family, and all were married with at least one child. Their main objective was to make money and return home. All the women from Uzbekistan who agreed to be interviewed were Muslims.

The quality over there is not bad since there are some uni students or office workers trying to earn a few extra baht.It's not Makkasan, it's Kamphaeng Phet 7 - the track-side road is called Makkasan between Ratchaprarop and Nana, then jogs to the left and changes its name. Parts of the road have disappeared or become impassable due to the construction of the Airport Link train, but the girls are out there every night between Asoke and Phet Uthai.

On top of that the prices are way lower for food, drinks, and the girls than Bangkok. I was getting tired of payment 150B for a drink at some of the Bkk go-go bars.
So for expats living a little north of the city ( Rangsit) there's hope.

How did they look, compared to, say, Nana parking lot?
And can you pinpoint it better -- I'm not a local, so not sure where it is the expressway ends exactly.

Don't know the street names, but take Asoke past Soi Cowboy and make a right before the expressway, most taxi drivers should know about this spot.

Finally figured out what the problem was. Turns out, the site must not like my version of IE. Borrowed a computer that was running a new version of Firefox and everything came up as advertised.

It's not Makkasan, it's Kamphaeng Phet 7 - the track-side road is called Makkasan between Ratchaprarop and Nana, then jogs to the left and changes its name. Parts of the road have disappeared or become impassable due to the construction of the Airport Link train, but the girls are out there every night between Asoke and Phet Uthai.
Could you provide an online map of some sort? Also, do you need wheels to pick up the girls, or can you do this on foot?
It is a small side street next to the railroad tracks near the Petchaburi/Rachadaphiskek/Asok Montri. I passed this area a few time on the way from the airport late at night but never stopped. Its really dark and looks quite seedy. Heard it was safe for Farangs but I wouldn't guarantee it.
Apparently its a popular spot for Thais(horny guys and cash-strapped girls) after a night on RCA.

You get there by heading north on Asok from Soi Cowboy, turning right on Petchaburi and then taking a left after about 200 meters. The girls are visible from Petchaburi if you look down the side soi. It is about 60THB by taxi.
The coordinates are (13.7489729848617, 100.5685043334961). Enter the coordinates in Google Maps (maps.google.com) and you can locate it on the map.
If you are a cheap charlie use the MTS and get off on the Petchaburi station and walk east on Petchaburi Rd.

Started off at Cowboy with Giotto late last night. Checked out Tilac - booorrrring!! After a quick drink we headed to an old fave go-go bar - Five Star, with the 70s heavy rock live Thai band. Out of nowhere a tiny scantilly-clad sexy minx turned up, started tongue-kissing me, putting my hand down her top (so I did the right thing and pinched her nipples), and she was grinding her tiny ass against me long and hard, until I became long and hard. Yes, she passed the hard-on test with flying colors. I had to go outside for a smoke just to cool down a bit - whew!
