That's not what he's asking about. I work for an airline (not flying) and the hosties and flight crew nearly always come back from BKK carrying boxed arrangements of orchids, not carrying one wilting bloom handed out by a Thai Airways hostie at the end of the flight.
Sorry, don't know where they get them but if you want orchids to take home to the wife just go to a flower shop (not THE Flower Shop). I don't know why the colour of the box should make a difference.The Thai orchid market is across from the Chatachuk (check my spelling) weekend market and is accessible from BTS.

Anyways I will report on my recent visit to Nataree. It seems there are two sides to this massage place. Left side has a fish bowl with about 5-10 ladies. The popa son asks for too much in the beginning. After I tell him I know the true pricing it turns to 1200 baht. I don't know whether massage, soapy, oily, or just sex. He had me and my friend in stitches all the way back which made the journey and traffic jams seem irrelevant.
He frankly amazed me with his extensive knowledge of politics, economic trends and in particular history. He was reeling off previous Israeli prime ministers and talking about the Palestinian situation. Then he talked for a good deal of time about America, Obama and the Euro zone crisis.
He started asking us about go-go bars, soapies and other forms of p4p. We tried to pretend that we were good boys and didn't indulge in that sort of thing. This just made him laugh and tell us we were lying. His attitude was coming to Bangkok and not trying p4p was akin to going to a restaurant when you were really hungry and reading the menu, which added to the hilarity of the whole experience.
To be honest I rarely like talking to cab drivers whether it's in Thailand or back in London 'cor blimey mate you wouldn't believe who I had in my cab the other day' blah, blah, blah. But this guy was a breath of fresh air and then some. I was so impressed I tipped him 100 baht and thanked him for the entertainment, what a guy!

At Bangkok's airport I always notice flight attendants carrying a certain brand of orchids in a white box. Where can I get these? I found an orchid shop in the airport, in the middle of an intersection by the gates, but they didn't carry these white boxes.There is the HUGE flower market down around chinatown? (not sure of exact location as my tgf was in tow). It uis a sight + scents to see in itself!
It does not get going till late. Maybe around midnite.
I am sure you arrange to have something packaged for your departure, even use your hotel's commercial if neccessary ($'s tip to reception can take care of anything)
But be carefull. Depending what country you are flying back into, these could be considered. Do not pass customs.

I don't know about all the science that is being thrown around regarding tap water in Bangkok and I've been living here for sometime not BKK but I'm not going to drink the water when I have never seen a local drink it. A quick question? If some of you have been to Hong Kong and Bangkok what City would you drink out of the tap and feel safe? I would think Hong Kong but a few years ago I forgot where I was and drank tap water a few times and the maid told me you shouldn't do that. A day or so later I got real sick shaking sick with chills. I went to the doctor a British nearby and she told me " don't drink the water ".
Now that was Hong Kong, a few years ago and I'm sure things have changed but how much I won't take the chance again I went to Bangkok / Pattaya hospital to have a large cut addressed and after the doctor told me to cover it when I take a shower and to use bottle water or boil water after it cool to wash the area. I ask him why and he explained that although it looks clean but the water in Thailand has lots of chemicals and your cut will heal faster and the skin will heal more normal. Now I'm in Pattaya but I don't think the system in BKK is much different that what Pattaya has?
In the end, to each his own but personally I wouldn't! A few weeks ago after all these years here I got the stomach flu or something and my toilet wasn't pretty.

The water running tap in Bangkok is went through a water treatment facility for purified process. The water from underground wells pump into the treament tank for added chemical to elimitate all harmful bacterias. After all done, the water then pump into the consumers piping grid. The tap water is not taste good because of the
Purified chemical its contain. You can drink it, however, I only drink bottle water from 7-11 store
One other thing on the water. I have gotten sick twice in Pattaya. Both times I am sure it was because I drank a drink with ice in the glass. I thought the first time was a fluke, but damn, if it did not happen a few months later. It screwed up several days of both trips.

The bottled water companies might have some influence to pursue their own interests, but do not have it to the extent of getting somebody sick when he drinks tap water or use ice coming from that.

Tap water and water. Ice are two totally different matters. You may be okay to drink tap water in Bangkok, Some can't because the body must contain the strange bacteria in Thailand, let's say it is different type that body is familiar in the USA. However, all most people get sick when drink the water-ice in Bangkok because the strange chemical mixed in water to make hard ice. I call it contaminated during the process liquid to hard ice. So, be aware, I drink the cold beer without ice and it is taste better that way.

It is not safe to drink. Look around at all the Thai people drinking only bottled water, even though they have much lower salaries compared to foreign tourists.
Ice is safe because it is not made with tap water.
MEXICO is the country with the don't drink anything with ice in it caveats.
Not one person I know of here has ever had a problem with ice in drinks.

My Saturday night started off with watching football in a bar opposite mine, down under. Terrible result to be honest. Some years ago I was in Indonesia for 3 month and I hurt my lower leg and got a big wound on it. It would not heal at all for the last 1 month I was there even there was no inflammation in it. It would just not close. But when I got back to europe it just wendt 1 week and it was gone.
Most of the time you can also smell the water is full of clorin.
In Indonesia they don't even have pipes going from the purification facilitys so they drive arround with small tanks on the trucks to deliver water.
And this is inside Jakarta for most of the hotels and buisness houses.
Even if I go to countryes here in Europe I still think about if its safe for me to drink the water. Even it may be safe but actualy some times you can got a bad stummac just for that. So I rarely drink it anyway.

In a lifetime of travelling and living in Asia I have been sick once. When a 5 star hotel by-passed its water treatment plant to avoid paying for chemicals.

You can drink foreign alcoholic beverages. You can buy canned and otherwise sealed foods from France, Australia, etc. I imagine even the pineapple from Phucket should be safe. Anything else you'ld feel comfortable with?
Perhaps by next year I'd be bold enough to try certain Thai dishes under specific conditions of preparation, location, etc. For now you might want to avoid ingesting too much water from TGs mouths. Who knows where they been, what they've been into, or what's been into them before seeing you, aside from the usual concerns re extra spicy BBBJ's, etc.

The idea of tap water is Safe enough to drink. This is true in USAA for this purified water after the natural water from the wells run through water treatments plants and located everywhere in the counties. In Thailand, the water run through a similar process. Personaly, I don't drink tap water in USA because I like the bottled water just for the taste. However, I use the tap water for cooking. However, once in a while, I drink the tap water and never got sick from that. The water sure contained chrloride treatment bacteria. Anyways, even in Thailand, if Thai's people start to drink tap water they still are safe from water disease.

The best bottled water I know is Arrow head pure quality mountain spring from the Rockies mountain. Even with that, they are not expensive to buy from the store. The water from rivers and canals are very dangerous to drink these days because people pollute heavily. Most of tap water in California come from the Sierra mountain snow pack in the winter.

Bottom line: never drink the tap water no matter where you travel. If I were European visiting Miami, I would not drink the tap water. As an American visiting Europe, I won't drink the tap water. 30 million years ago on my first trip outside the States which lasted 6 months; a friend and I drove down to Mexico and Central America. We had a gas. I drank the water and ate local street food and got sicker than a dog for about a week. After that I was inoculated and could eat and drink anything. But the week I was sick was rough. I don't advise doing what I did. If you are travelling for just a week or even a couple of months, it is not worth it to get yourself localized. Don't drink the tap water and that means ice cubes too unless it is a 5 star hotel or restaurant with its own filtration system.

Thank you all for your ideas on catching a cab from the "departure" section on the 4th floor of the suvarnabhoomi international airport!
We easily got a cab, and costed us only about THB250 plus 2 tolls of about THB 30 each. The destination was Conrad hotel on "wireless Road / vitaayu road" near the sukumvit area!
This was much cheaper than the "airport taxi" counters inside the "arrival" lounge asking to pay THB600 for the one way trip!

If you want to save some bht take the arilink express train go to makasan station is very fast is only 100 bht, you can take taxi from there to the hotel or short walk to subway station if you don't have alot of luggage, if I take taxi I go to arrival level pick a taxi just drop some one off meter to suk is about 280 bht.

It rarely makes sense to take a taxi that is just sitting there (except at the airport example below) , or even to acknowledge their existence. You'll just waste your time and pay more than necessary. Instead, flag down (by pointing at at the ground in front of you) one that is moving with the red light on.
At the airport, departures (level 4?) is above arrivals. You can pick a taxi up there without paying the 50 baht fee, and maybe wait less as well. Just say "meter OK" and if they try to argue, move on to the next guy. Even at weird hours, it's usually pretty easy to find a more-than-willing meter-using driver. The meter usually ranges from about 180-270, plus tolls if you take the tollway (45+25?).

I believe you have to go down one level from where you get luggage, but I'm not sure. I just never pay that much attention. In any case, go outside the building at the correct level and look for the many tables near the taxis.
It sounds like you got to the right place, but you NEVER pay anything to the people at the tables. I'm not sure where you were, but I've never seen anyone pay anything at the public taxi stands. You tell them where you are going, they right it on a paper, give half the paper to the driver, and give you the other half. I hope this helps. TTG

Thanks in advanceWhen you exit immigration, the Thais at that level are offering you pre-paid "limousine" taxis; it will be more expensive.
You have 2 options to get a public meter taxi.
1) At the Ground level (lowest level) , there are public taxi stands where they will give you a coupon (you give half to your taxi driver, and you keep the other half if you want to complain later). Most taxi drivers will try to rip you off and say it's 500 baht to your destination. Just be firm (and polite) and say "meter!", and they will ALL turn on the meter. You need to add 50 baht (service charge) to the meter amount. Also need to add any tolls if applicable.
2) To save the 50 baht charge, you can go to the arrival level (highest level) , and take a meter taxi that dropped off a customer.
My preference would be Insomnia (Soi 12)Go down to Soi 2, across from Nana Entertainment Plaza. They set up after hours beer and drink stands all along the sidewalk. You will have plenty to choose from. These places usually set up music and stay open until dawn.

But I never take the parked taxis. Those guys have to pay to get their spot, so you have to pay so they make money.
Very rarely a taxi will quote a fixed price before starting off or decline to go somewhere (maybe they're going off shift, or they fear bad traffic because of rain, or whatever). In such a case, I hop out and get the next taxi.
Many times a taxi has rounded down the fare when they drop me. Taxis have offered me discount when they missed a turn and had to drive on to make a you-turn.
I just felt I had to say a word for the taxi drivers. Most are cool.

But I'm about to diss Air Asia. Before, I swore by Air Asia. But now I am fed up. Their website is shit. I tried to sign up for frequent flyer but it would / will not process it. But the main thing is that I have been trying everyday for the last 3 days to buy tickets for me, my mom, and my aunt to go to Chiang Mai. Roundtrip tickets for 3 people cost 10, 578 baht. But every time I try to purchase the tickets it says my Visa credit card is declined. This is the same card I have saved in my profile on their website. I have thousands of dollars available on my card. I called the bank that issued it and they said there is not even a record of a charge attempt. I have not been able to get through to Air Asia at the Thailand, England, Malaysia, or Australia numbers. I was finally able to get through on the Indonesia number and they were no help at all. After talking to the guy for 20 minutes and trying to put the card through myself in different currencies (BTW the tickets are $20 more if USD is selected) on his supervisor's advice, nothing: declined, declined, declined. Although it gave me a reservation number that would be good for 4 hours he said he can not take payment over the phone because it is a promo fare. It has to be done on the website. Ain't that a be*t&h?
I was so frustrated that I just hung up the skype. I did a search on google for flights and it gave me Nok Air as one carrier. So I went to their website and was able to purchase 3 tickets at the same time as the Air Asia flight in less than 5 minutes for 7, 740 baht, that is $90 less than Air Asia. Let's see how it goes with this carrier.
*Come to think of it when my cousin's girlfriend's brother in Malaysia tried to put my cousin's KUL BKK ticket on his Visa, the Air Asia site did the same thing. And that was in June. Well we have been busy since before Christmas so I haven't had time for a break for far too long. The only time I have managed to get out anywhere was Christmas eve with some of the staff in Soi cowboy and New Year 's Eve when I went to nana plaza but found myself too tired to bother with a bar fine. I think it's important to get out of Bangkok every now and again and working all the time does no one any good. Although some people prefer other locations in Thailand personally I look forward to my trips to Pattaya. First things first the last Sunday of January I am heading to Spanky's in Nana plaza as I have some unfinished business with a certain stunning lady there. I have a burning need to make up for the disappointment I inflicted on myself, through drinking too much, and the falling before the finish line the weekend before Christmas in Pattaya, with the same lady, I intend to be as fresh as a daisy this time and very sober so as to enjoy every minute of the session.
In the two and a half months since we opened I have to say I have been very surprised at just how professional the staff has been here at The Salon. I had numerous warnings from various sources, qualified and otherwise, about how much of a nightmare it would be. The general consensus was that Thai people are difficult to deal with and having so many ladies all in the same place would be a man management minefield. The biggest obstacle westerner's encounter with Thai's is that they try to manipulate them to their own established ways of doing things. This will only lead to a path of guaranteed frustration. You are better off just accepting that the cultural differences exist and don't try to eradicate them. As for some of the specific warnings I was told the ladies would be lazy, unreliable, untrustworthy and listless. I have to say none of these aspects have materialized in any way at all (so far). To be honest all the problems I have had to deal with have concerned customers and not staff. Even things that I assumed would come with the territory such as theft have been a no show.

For problems in getting the Asian low cost airlines to approve your credit card charges, it is always better if you sign you card up for Verified by Visa. After signing-up my Chase credit cards, I have never had a problem again.

For problems in getting the Asian low cost airlines to approve your credit card charges, it is always better if you sign you card up for Verified by Visa. After signing-up my Chase credit cards, I have never had a problem again.+1 on that.
Thai was giving me hell with my Chase card and shot me down on successive days, but after getting Verified it went through ok.

Chase is the only US bank that I have found usefull, I HATE Capital One, and will bad mouth them to anyone willing to listen. I was stuck for days in AC once, without being able to get money, luckily I had enough "emergency cash" but it ruined the trip. I also had a buddy that had a terrible time with Well's Fargo when he was in Bangkok. He told them before he left he was going, then when he got here they said he had the wrong type of account, and they wanted to charge all types of exorbant fee's, and he could only ever get a person on the phone 8-5, M-F EST.

I appreciate your help. Its exactly what I am looking for. Actually, although its just one night, I will want the girl I select to spend the night with me at my hotel. Someone else suggested that if you do decide to spend time with this girl, then not give her the entire 12k upfront. Instead, make the deal for a day-by-day basis just to make sure that you are compatible before making the commitment. That is certainly sound advice.
There is also a common sense aspect to the situation. Unless you know the girl, you really have no way of knowing that she won't disappear after she gets your 12k. Your expectation that everyone and every report must stick to as planned and that will never happen. Your request and responses is a valet one but when you look at the the number of outdated threads or should I say useless threads in my opinion is due to individuals like yourself who come on board and don't read or get what you want and starting complaining and many go directly to Jackson and that is why there are so many threads right now. I'm just about to make another trip to the paradise soon 7-14 feb.
Here are few observations from my last trip may 2001:

In one of my education classes at the university our professor explained to us that before World War 2 (I think it was) Japan was called Nippon. So all the people were called Nipponese and it was shortened to Nips (derogatory same as Japs) by westerners. Evidently the Thais still call them by the old name. With the 'n' at the end of "khun" (which means person/people) and the 'N' at the beginning of Nippon running together it would make one think that the second 'n' is not being pronounced making it sound like "ippun" if it is not said very slowly.
Nippon is still the official name of Japan, in Japanese.

Just a few updates being in BKK the last week or so. These are just my simple observations and some differences from two years ago, so take it for a grain of salt.

You grew up there and didn't know? In one of my education classes at the university our professor explained to us that before World War 2 (I think it was) Japan was called Nippon.
