View Full Version : 2004 Bangkok Hotels
Thanks guys so much for your input!
The deal is that this hotel's part of a package "tour" the price of which was wayyyyyyy cheaper than a December air ticket price (fm USA).
So whereas they'll pick me up, give me a tour of the city on day 1, on other days I think I'll be sleeping (result of noctural tours...)...
Therefore last question---> how far from the "action" is it?? (this is my first time in BKK....) If it is that far from the "action" I might just book into another hotel (hum... which one...?)
Gracias

Usually I stay at the Montien but now I'd like to go bumming a bit in the Sukhumvit area. Ain't looking for a 4-star hotel but a rather comfy place to sleep (and xxx).
Been trolling this site and UTFSE! Many people recommends Majestic Suits.
Saw the prices vary from 1100 - 1900 THB/night.
Also looked at Nana Hotel (I know it's a tacky place) but the price is 1000.
Should I pick Nana or Majestic?? Nana offers one type of room online and M offers 4 (S Studio, S+D Superior,D Suite).
Is the single just one tiny bed or queensize? And... I heard that it no use tyring to get a double to get women up to the room since when you book they request both names? And I'll be going single!
Sorry for the n00n question but the data online here is.. well.. not complete for me :D

Thaidude,
Please let me know if the Banyyan tree is girl friendly, and if they have good pool facilites, i usually stau at the penninsula but had a problem there last time when a small party got out of hand.
The banyan tree is on Sathorn just futher down form the Sukhothai, please confirm
Thanks in advance
Rendorseg, as Jodomas stated, it's about 10-15 minute walk from the Skytrain. Then you have to take the Skytrain 6 stops to Nana Plaza (Nana Station), 7 to Cowboy (Asoke Station), or 2 trains (4 stops total) to Patpong (Ratchadamri Station). I wouldn't recommend going to Patpong, though. By taxi, it might be about 10 - 15 minutes to the action when traffic is light. In heavy traffic, it could take 2 hours. The hotel is in the Pratunam area, which is not terribly far, but I think you would be better off finding someplace closer. Might I ask how much you are paying (package total), and if it's from East or West Coast. I'm going in December, too, and online I am looking at prices of about $850 from NY. But I will contact my travel agent (from a Japanese Travel Firm) to see if she can do better. She usually gets me tickets for less than $700. If your price is very good, then you might think about booking an inexpensive hotel very close to the action (maybe Nana Hotel or Majestic) where you can go to play, and use the Century Park as "home base".
Buenas suerte.
Phuquer,
Ah, there's the rub mate - prices from US West Coast for flights Dec 20- Jan 3 are very high ($2500'ish) even this early (already all frequent flier stuff's been snagged) so my package price $1200 (via skyauctions.com) which include airfare, hotel, airport pickup/delivery, plus some tours (I'll just go on 1 or two and then do mostly noturnal tours [of multi Thai sexual practices inside of bars and bedrooms....]).
Your price I suspect was for earlier in the month of December, right?
But thanks mucho for the insight on that area being either 10 minutes or 120 minutes depending on traffic, ugh... And the notion of it being not so girl friendly, well, I'll perhaps try it out and see....
I could either play it by ear and try to get a room closer to the action when I arrive or instead maybe now I could simply reserve something .... Don't know how packed it gets that week... I suspect at Xmas and New Years it's packed with Aussis and the lot of them all, huh?
Was thinking of also hopping out to Fuckit or Pattaya for a few days... dunno...
Ciao

Divine Baal,
Both the Nana Hotel and Majestic Suites are girl friendly so if you book a double room you will not have to give two names when you check in.
I have stayed at both and in my opinion Majestic is worth the extra baht, I found the Nana rooms very worn.
Just booked flight to BKK from SDF, 20 Nov to 5 Dec for $875US. Orbitz and Expedia have decent deals available. Expedia has Northwest at $825US RT

Gentlemen,
Does anyone know if these hotels are girl friendly??
Amari boulevard hotel
Novotel Siem Square
Montien hotel
Please comment on location and girl friendly. Thank you very much
Sure, ya, no prob, but try booking it for xmas time... prices are friggin 2 or 3x.
Trying to find a place for one night in mid October that is located close to Sukumvit action, girl friendly and less than 2000 bhat. Majestic is booked, Nana has only the most basic rooms available. Checked board for other hotels with good recommendations, but haven't found anything that's a clear choice.
Checked the board for anything about Royal Benja on Soi 5, but search revealed no reports. Anybody have any experience? Asia Hotels had relatively good things to say, but nothing about Girl Friendly.
Open to other suggestions.
Thanks
Damn! I looked it up. Yes, the flights are really expensive for that week. Looks like you scored a good deal with that package. I think the hotels will be sold out for the days you will be there, so I don't think you'll be able to just walk in and find a room in many of the places. And the rooms you do find will probably be marked up. As going to Fuckit, I haven't been there yet, but I hear the mongering is not as good there (although the beaches and scenery are among the best in the world). Pattaya, though, is great for mongering. But as with Bangkok, book your hotel in advance. Waaaaay in advance. I think by November, those weeks you will be there will be booked already. Maybe even earlier.
Darn, Mr. O'Dognasty! I guess I'll just miss hanging out with you. I'll be getting there on the 5th of Dec. Well, keep me posted as to what's new and what is going on while you are there (and what to look out for), and I'll do the same for Rendorseg, as he'll be there about 2 weeks after I leave.

Wow prices change quick when it gets to high season.
I booked about a month ago for 11/4 - 11/14 from California and paid $700 which included overnight delivery and travel insurance. The day before I would have saved $50, ya snooze, ya lose I guess.
This was on Travelocity, all others were higher from $25 to $125

All About Bob,
Yes, Banyan Tree is the tall rectangular slab right after the Sukhothai (another excellent hotel btw). Peninsula was a good choice as well. Banyan Tree's pool is nice for relaxing and leisure swim although it's not Olympic size.
In term of girl friendly, I can't give you accurate answer. The girls I usually bring there are either freebies or students/presenters that occasinally freelance (so it's impossible to tell them from normal girlfriend).

Good service apartment in Nana?
Can anyone help me please?
I’m throwing a bachelor party for a friend of mine on the 21st of Oct (we live in Seattle). I wanted to get a room at the Omni Tower, but can’t seem to get the on-line reservation thing to work, and they have not responded to my emails. Are they still in business?
Does anyone know of a good multiple-room hotel room or service apartment in the Nana Plaza area, which would be good for a bachelor party?
Thanks for any help!

Ok please help. I have booked a hotel due to business that I have no idea about but seemed the best choice out of what I was given. Please let me know if anyone knows anything about it. I have done the search and looked through back pages but have found nothing. Thanks in Advance.
The Hotel is: Sofitel Central Plaza on 1695 Phaholyothin Rd. It is in the Accor Hotels and Resorts family.
I will be sure to post all my info about the hotel and ACTIVITIES once I get back.
Laser Jock,
Emporium Suites is a great serviced apartment and is only about five minutes in a cab from Nana. I went to a huge party there earlier this year and there were no problems with noise or neighbours or staff.
Omni is okay but not really suitable for a bachelor party.
I expect there are several hotels in the Nana area that are used to that sort of thing. Perhaps even the Nana Hotel.

Coma Boy,
Thanks for the input. I was hoping to have something which was just a short walk. Is the Nana Hotel where the Disco Angel is? If not what is the name of that place. I stayed at the Omni tower a few years ago, but don’t remember the names of other hotels in the area. I read somewhere that the service apartments might have to stop renting room for less then 30days. Dose anyone know if this law came to pass?
Texas Man #2,
The hotel you mentioned (the Sofitel Central) is about a 100 to 120 Baht ride away from Nana Plaza, depending on traffic. I don't know if it's girl-friendly, but if I had to bet I'd say "no, it's not."
To maximize your chances of having a girl over, be sure to book a double room and be sure that she is dressed well; she can't have the typical "look" that bar girls have (not a criticism of them, just an observation) without drawing undue attention. As long as she looks like a legitimate guest and you have booked a double room, your chances will improve. If you change girls each night, the staff will know something's up and you'll be done.
Even though it's a bit far from your ideal location, the JW Marriott would be a better choice: they're 100% girl friendly and just a 5 min. walk from Nana Plaza.
From the Central Sofitel to Don Meuang airport is about 15 minutes by car, (approx. 115 baht in a taxi). It just south of the Siam Commercial Bank Plaza ("SCB Plaza" or "SCB Park Plaza") and a huge IMAX cinema a stone's throw away from SCB.
The road it's on is spelled "Phaholyothin" in English, but that word is pronounced "Pa-Hon-Yo-Tin." It's right beside the Ladprao Central Department Store ("Central Ladprao").

Texas Man,
Sofitel Central is not close to the action. Never stayed there, but stayed at Sofitel Silom a few times. Not exactly guest friendly.
Hi guys - I switched my Dec/Jan package hotel booking to the Amari Atrium on New Petri which, while not right on the action, is much closer... Reportedly they're not super GF but if one books a double it should be OK... Anybody's had any good/bad experiences there?
Rendorseg
FlyJets-
I heard that the the Amari Boulevard is GF but that might not be the most current data...
Rendorseg
Flyjets,
Novotel Siam Square is girl-friendly and in a good location.
Laser Jock.
Yes, Angels Disco is at the Nana Hotel.
I have also heard that about serviced apartments, I don't think it is due to a change in the law, I think that several popular serviced apartments would just rather have only long-term residents.
But I've only heard gossip from drunks so I don't know for sure.

Are you sure you aren't referring to Novotel Lotus on Soi 22. I've heard Novotel Siam Square is not girl friendly.
Rhino Tusk.
I spent two nights there, earlier this year, and they were girl-friendly.
Perhaps I was just lucky.
President Solitaire at the top of Soii 11 would be perfect for a bachelor party. Great rooms and suites. very girl friendly etc...
OMNI SUCKS. I stayed there 2 weeks and just hated the rooms, staff, food and high prices!

Hi,
I am unfortunately staying at the Holiday Inn Silom.
I read Daring Mood's 9/20 report
I have a choice of staying in a regular room or being on the executive floor.
Where do you think there will be less of a problem with bringing friends up?
Does it matter which tower I am in?
Unfortunately, I need to know asap! So if anyone can help, I'd appreciate it!
Any recommended action near to the hotel?
Thx,
Fred
Amari Atrium - is it GF? (near but not the same as the Amari Boulevard...)
Has anyone had experience with this hotel? - I'm booked there (as a double) in late Dec. and wonder if I should bail on this hotel or not...

Seriosly though, are you using P. Solitaires shuttle ? It is too far to walk to Suk, is it not ?

Greetings all,
It looks like I'm finally going to make it to LOS. Although, it is still a month away.
Anyways, my friends and I were thinking about getting a multi-bedroom suite, about 3 bedrooms connected by a living room. Does anyone know of such a place? Hopefully it is close to the action, and not expensive.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

No doubt I'd be hav'n a blast ! But, I would have had to put the whole trip on my credit card. Just can't do that.
Besides, I'll bet there will be girls left for me when I do return.
Have fun and a beer or two for me !

Two quick questions. Friends have recommended I stay at the Ambassador hotel on Sukhumvit rd.
1) Girl Friendly?
2) Is it good value for money?
Also, how does it compare to the Majestic Suites and/or Nana Hotel? Better/worse?
Thanks.

Rendorseg,
I have just spent 10 days at the Amari Boulevard and can report that if a DOUBLE room is booked this hotel is totally girl friendly.
Girls are treated like paying guests and they all seem to rate this hotel.
Once known by security no checks are made or ID's taken unless you wish for this to happen.
Good facilities and staff, great location. A little overpriced though.

*******,
I second JuiceSpike's recommendation. The Ambassador is nicer than the Majestic Suites and the Nana Hotel, but the Grand President is preferable to the Ambassador. The only disadvantage the Grand President and the Ambassador have compared to the Majestic Suites and the Nana Hotel is that they're further away from the action--a 15-minute walk rather than a 2-minute walk to the Nana Entertainment Plaza, for example.
Gentlemen:
The problem
Everyday we have postings asking if a centain hotel is girl friendly or not. What we need is a consolidated list of the Bangkok hotels listing which is friendly and which is not. Also indicating what our members experience was at the hotel.
Possible solution
If you have stayed at a Bangkok hotel in the last 30 days PM me and let me know if it was girl friendly or not and anyother comments as to condition of the rooms ect.
Once a week I will post a consolidated list on this board based on the feedback from our members indicating which hotels were girl friendly and a brief indication as to the members experience with the hotel. This will give us a data base to compare the many hotels in the area.
After your stay just drop me a brief PM and I will get this started. If anyone else would like to take the job over just say so but I think this listing could be a big help to all of us and make it easy to compare hotels at a glance. Any suggestions?
Scotty Monger

Capt JB,
Not too long ago I posted a list of hotels that are all known to be girl friendly. You might be able to use this as a starting point.
Luego
And I will recommend -- yet again -- that people look at Sanukmaps, which does have all that information for most of the main monger areas. There is also a link to some maps which provide this information in the Thailand FAQ.

How to know if your choice of hotel will accept girls?
EMAIL THEM. Ask your hotel if it's OK to bring girls at no extra cost. Don't be shy, sex here is as normal as breathing.
juice.
Thanks Juice, will check it out. :)
Captain JB, I have been working on this exact list. I have been quite busy with work recently, so I haven't done all the research I wanted to do, but it is coming along. I am gonna have the name and address of the hotel, contact info (email or phone), girl friendly or not, and any notes about the hotel that might be useful. It is a big project. There are a lot of hotels in BKK.
Phuquer,
Great, I will be happy to give you any info I have.
Hi Guys,
Are any of the following TG friendly and well connnected to over-ground metro service?:
Conrad
Shangri-la Riverside
Westin Grand
Dusit Thani
I have to chose from one of the above so I'd really appreciate your recommendations.
Thanks a bundle.

Shangri-La was girl-friendly when I stayed there in 2002.
My BGs got a few scowls down by the pool though.
I think JuiceSpike's suggestion for e-mailing the hotel is great. I sent the following to Holiday Inn Silom twice and have never re3vceived a response BUT the idea o9f asking is a great no brainer. Just didn't have enough brains to think of it myself lolol
Hello
I will be arriving in Bangkok in November.
1. What is the room rate for two on the executive floor?
2. What is your policy for bringing a guest back to the room? Only myself and the guest will be in the room.
3. What is the check-in and check-out time?

When I last stayed at the Holiday Inn Silom they were NOT girl friendly, I tried walking to the lift with a girl and was pounced on by security. They told me to speak to the reception and they charged me 1500 baht joiner fee, bloody rip off, would never stay there again.

HOTEL BY AIRPORT?
Hi all, I did the search for girl friendly "hotel near airport" but got very mixed results.
I just want one night as I arrive and again as I depart. I have a late arrival and I am flying off to Chang Mai the next day for the duration of this visit.
I like clean, mid-priced, 900 - 1500 baht rooms. I'm guessing this might be hard to find near the airport.

Can anyone tell me about the CENTRE POINT, Silom (Riverside). I understand that they are service apartments, but are they girl friendly? Though the price for a single and double occupancy is the same, it seems a bit fancy from its pics, and I hope there is no problem from the hotel security staff. Would much appreciate any feedback.

i am looking for a hotel with high speed internet access in the rooms in a non-mongering area. any good ideas. i am going with the family so a hotel with a pool etc would be great. more time for my hobby then!
Marriott Riverside (Not the JW) may be an option. 15 minute ferry ride from Saphan Taksin BTS to hide the evidence. Great pool and other facilities, but it does not 'feel' like Bangkok.
Blik 2,
Stay at The Banyan Tree, an awesome place for you and the family plus they have the internet connection that you require.
Or The Peninsula or Shangri-La.
I'm a liitle bit confused about Hotel names, is the Sheraton Grande the same as Royal Orchid Sheraton?
If not, is the Royal Orchid Girl-friendly, or how about the Montien Hotel?
Thanks,
Cubus
I can confirm that the Royal Orchid Sheraton is girl-friendly.
The Solitaire is about 4 to 5 minutes up the street from the GP. It is GF, so no problem bringing a girl or 3 back to your room. I was fortunate enough to get comped, but for the price I would have paid for their "suite", which is 1 room, inclding fridge, hot plate, sofa and coffee table, I could have got the 1 bedroom at GP, with a seperate LR. My choice in the future, if I am not comped: The GP.
Many people have mentionned the 42" plasma TV in the room at Solitaire. Even though I never turned it on, as I was too busy, Here is a pic of the plasma TV. ;) sorry the photo is a bit dark.
You asked about hotels close to the airport.
Try the Asia Airport Hotel, I think it is about 1200 baht and is about ten minutes away from Don Muang.
Or, the Amari Airport Hotel. This is excellent as it is actually connected to the airport by a walkway so would save you a lot of time and hassle.
If I remember correctly it costs about 3000 baht which is more than you wanted to pay, but it is super-convenient . They also offer generous discounts if you show a Thai Airways ticket for your onbound travel.
Both are girl-friendly.
The Grande Sheraton is on Sukhumvit and is GF for sure. (I will be staying there again at the end of Novembe)

looking for a hotel, which is not so much "NON GF", as more "NOT IN YOUR FACE GF", away from the action. Is there anything around the Emporium or near the river which might work, which is abt 100$ ?
the wife is coming with me in a couple of weeks, for 2 nights, and I am lucky that she really doesn't know that a "scene" exists in LOS. Would like to keep it that way.
Any help would be appreciated, and no, there will be no FRs to follow, on this one ;)
The Banyan Tree, Shangri-La, Peninsula, Conrad, Royal Orchid Sheraton, and The Sukhothai are all suitable for your wife's visit.
They are all safely away from the action but close enough for you to reach the action in a short taxi ride if necessary.
They are not "in-your-face girl-friendly". I have rarely seen guests returning with hookers but I have always been able to bring in guests without any problems.
Plus they are all approximately within your budget.
I hope she doesn't work out why you spend so much time in Bangkok. Good luck.

I've heard that the Davis Bangkok on Soi 24 would probably fit the bill nicely. It's around $80 a night, and from everything I've heard, it's a legit 5*
Another possibility would be the Emporium Suites, which are in the Emporium Complex. Around $100 per night.
Also, if you use Priceline, I am pretty sure you could get the Shangri-La along the river for a bid of $80 or less per night

Try Rembrandt in Suk soi 18 -22 something, or even better Montien Riverside.
Your wife will not see a shaddow of the scene, for sure. And both hotels are very nice.

Anybody who has informations about the Hotel Drop Inn Bangkok on 392/28-31 Sukhumvit Soi 20? How far is it from the action?
Stevie
Holiday Inn Silom-
Book a double room and when you check-in make a point of mentioning that your girlfriend will be joining you later.
You shouldn't have to pay any joiner fees. If they ask, simply refuse saying that you have booked for two people and have already informed the hotel at check-in that your partner was to join you.
I always book double rooms and always firmly yet politely refuse to pay a joiner fee if it is requested.
Also if it is night-staff asking for a joiner fee, and if they won't take no for an answer, tell them to add it to your bill. It rarely appears as it was normally a scam by the night-staff.
Renting a cell phone-
Buying one is easier, you can grab a decent second-hand handset for around 1000 Baht (try MBK or somewhere), and then just buy a SIM and scratchcards for AIS or DTAC or whichever network you prefer.

Treat her the the restaurant on the top of the Banyan tree hotel, she will feel it is a 2nd honeymoon!!

The rumours are true; the law is about to be changed whereby serviced apartments can no longer provide short stay rentals.
Any apartment operators who continue to provide daily or weekly rates will face fines of up to 10,000 Baht per day, with possible jail time for the managers.
Nevermind, I prefer hotels anyway.
Almost right across the street from Soi Cowboy. Soi 4 is Nana Plaza about a 15 minute walk, also check out Soi Zero, it's not as loud, but promises some interesting prospects..

I'm set to go to BKK for my virgin voyage on 11/28th. Thinking of the President Solitare. I realize its girl friendly, but is it close to Nana and the skytrain? Does it have 24 hr room service (my flight gets in at 2am)? Are those plazmas worth it? Does it have a decent gym and pool?
The other thought is to try a 5* at Priceline. According to Bidding for Travel, the cost would be approx. $75/night for the Marriot, Westin, or Sheraton. Are these hotels GF? How do they compare to the Presidente?
Thanks for any input.

Have returned from just over two weeks in Thailand and stayed at "The House By The Pond" hotel, Suk Soi 22, 3.
It is about 10 to 15 mins walk from Emporium BTS station and is no problem for taxis or tuk tuk. It is a small complex of 3 buildings, they are supposed to be serviced appartments. There is a mature tropical garden arround the buildings although the "pond" is off limits. There are no lifts.
I had a room in the "white building" it cosisted of living room area very small kitchen area, only used the fridge but it had a kettle, single hot plate and small microwave also very basic pots.
living area had desk, sofa and chair, tv with international channels, hifi and room safe. A resonable amount of space.
There was air con servered both the living area and bed room. The bed room was ok king size bed that was very easy to get three people in and I think you could have got four in comfortably. The bed was the most comfortable I have been in any where.
Bath room a bit grotty but water pressure was ok.
Night time there are are two guards on but give you no problem if you bring any one back. the reception is not 24hrs. I class it as Girl friendly.
Price was B,23,650 for 15 nights
Other facilities were not good and service not great, They had one computer that you could get internet access on but was twice the price of else where and when I tried it had many problems.
In general I dont think i would use it again.
Grand President is girl friendly. No problem bringing them in, and no joiner fees. The prices you are quoting (1600 - 1800) are correct right now, but for me it seems a bit high. I had always payed 1350b per night, and I thought that was fair, but now I am pondering whether to pay the 1800 they asked me, or to move someplace else. The place is nice, but at this price I am starting to think about searching for someplace else. The problem is that I have Thai friends, and if I stay at Nana or Majestic, they will know what I am doing there. At least GP is a bit more respectable. I guess I'll be staying there again unless I can figure out a better and more convenient place, for less price. Any suggestions? Let's get this thread moving again. Any current info on Grace?? It crossed my mind.

1. Am I doing something wrong here. This seems to be LP's mobile site. Yet the information is threadbare to say the least. Also, the last link, the Atlanta Hotel, is straight out of Basil Fawlty. Like Fawlty Towers, it is worth staying at only if you want a trul bizarre experience. It seems to me that they are not catering to anybody with this service. And why the Atlanta Hotel would be the only "budget hotel" they would include is beyond me.
2. On line booking and spam: Touring Sukohthai yesterday and talking to fellow hapy hlidayers, I have received complaints from several on line bookers that they have received Thai spam after booking hotels on line. Anyone else got this complain?
3. Phuquer: I pmed you about your letter to the editor. As regards Grace, the only issues I know of are
a. Arabs: Yanks etc generally get housed separately. Though I can understand why Arabs might be rather pissed with Westerners, there has never been any trouble I know of. Only assholes I have ever seen are Westerners.
b. Coffee shop: This was the place to be after the Nana crackdown but many reports have said the outside street is also buzzing too now. Domino likes to get an early night whenever possible but last time he checked the coffee shop was buzzing. Mostly elephants during the day though; the Arabs and Africans like plenty of meat on the bone.
c. Hotel lobby can be ok for pickups but there is a glut of women in Bkk.
d. Grace is good for cheap meals during the day. The cafe facing the street is handy and cheap.
e. Lots of black Africans between Sukumvit and Grace. Again, never a problem for me and htye have scoped out some good things along there id you are interested. I kinda like Arab town.
Hi Domino. Thanks for the info. It worked. I am so dense sometimes. Just a question. Has anybody actually used the HOTEL part of the Grace? :) I have been to the coffee shop and the bowling alley, but I've never gone upstairs. I think I'm gonna have to spend at least one night there just to check it out. I hope it's better than the ambassador, though.

The main advantage of the Priceline 5* places is that they are all VERY close to the BTS line. Much closer than any of the President hotels, which require walks of around 1 KM to get to the BTS.
I've been told that all of the Priceline 5* places are girl-friendly. I don't know from personal experience, as I am visiting for the first time in January (I got the JW Marriott for a $75 bid on Priceline). The 4* Priceline places are mostly NOT girl-friendly, so I would not use Priceline for anything less than a 5*
Also, be aware that with Priceline's fees, the complete, tax included price of a $75 bid comes out to slightly over $90 per night. Still a good deal when the direct-booking rates for those places run $115-$135 per night PLUS 15% taxes.
Hi guys,
Do you have any info on this hotel. Is it girl friendly??? I will be staying this hotel during the Chritmas week. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Phuquer,
I have not stayed at the Grand President in a while. Can you tell me if you can still use that old TSM trick to get a discount there? That is, if you are a TSM member or claimed to be, they will give you a 10 or 15 % discount (I can't remember the exact percent). And if they do still give the discount, are they now asking for some sort of proof? Also, do you know if the other hotels in the President Group also offer that TSM discount?
Just fyi for those who might be intersted:
Landmark Hotel on Sukhumvit has a new 24/7 package. It allows you to check in at anytime day or night, and then check out 24 hrs later.
This is a new concept, and I like the idea of knowing you can arrive late in the evening and not have to check out early the next a.m.
...
cheers, Lalake
President Soliraire is very, very nice. It is at the top of Soi 11 about a 5 minute walk from Grand President. It is a 40 Baht taxi ride to Nana...not walkable in my opinion only because of the heat not the distance (same for the skytrain). They do have a tuk tuk that operates during the daytime to take you to the skytrain or SUK).
Plasma TV is great and the girls just love the rooms, tv, dvd players etc.
Be VERY careful and keep any price quotes they give you. They tried several times to hike my bill up and without the email confirmations I would have been stuck (they are part of the President Group and are playing games) I stayed at the Solitaire for 4 months.
Room service stops at about 11PM.

I recently returned from a trip to Thailand and stayed at both the JW and Majestic suites.
The JW was definetly girlfriendly and lived up to it's five star ranking. The spa in particular was good and the pool (small) never seemed to crowded. switching over to the Majestic, I was a little concerned about the quality, but my fears were immediately dimissed by the professional service and clean rooms. Overall the hotel does not offer the same service standards as the JW, but for the price and location you can't go wrong with the Majestic suites.
The girls had to leave their id's at Majestic, but I never had too at the JW.

Sandog, and all others,
Novotel Lotus on Suk Soi 33 is definitely girl friendly. In the afternoons, I have not been stopped there. In the evenings, the security manager near the elevators stops you and checks your room number against some list (perhaps to see that you have paid for doulbe occupancy?) and then takes your companions ID. I have never had any trouble, but on my last stay I had to bring a girl back downstairs because the security manager actually looked at her ID while he was making a copy of it and she was only 16. While it was an annoyance, I am sure that he was looking out for both the Hotel's and my best interests. I was certainly not aware that she was 16, never would have taken her up in the first place. All in all, I was annoyed (more at myself) and grateful for his intervention.
Additionally, it is a quite nice hotel and well located near the Phrom Pong BTS. I've picked up girls leaving the Soi 33 bars when they finished work, and girls eating outside the 7-11 on the corner. All in all a quite good place.

On my short stay in Bkk, I decided to try Hotel Penny Black, located at Soi Cowboy/ Asoke / Soi 21 / corner buliding. This was a recommendation made by another poster.
I stayed on the 6 floor, from my observation there are only 4 rooms on each floor. I stayed in #601, I found the rooms to be clean, well design with European fixtures, full size bath with glass enclosure. Bathroom also had free condiments and nice clean thick white towels. The rooms also had a nice firm bed, cable channels and a full size refrigerator.
I was very impressed with the how clean the rooms were but still found in the morning a giant roach walking around also found one in the bathroom.
Although, I had plenty of Hot water my friend down the hall in #604 did not have the same luck. It could be a problem if you are a non-smoker, with only 4 rooms on each floor and the other 3 occupant being super heavy smokers I could smell the smoke coming either through the walls or through the door. I placed a towel under the door and that help.
Overall, the cost was $ 1000 baht and being on the 6 floor did not have a problem with noise. Staff very helpful!

Based on a former posting of the Timbervati, I decide to check it out! It is located off Sukhumvit, Soi 33. Walk down the street and it is on the left side.
It has a wooden structure that reminded me of going to camp for the summer!
They were doing some construction but I was able to do a small tour!
It is somewhat unique that the place is small and compact! It seem to have a bar, eating area, snooker tablers and a small pool. I asked about the rooms and they said they were due to open in 2 months but I heard that story before. From my observation due to the size of the place I can't see them to have many rooms. I think it is primary a BBQ Steakhouse although the business card says Boutique Hotel. Interest place!

Not stayed there myself, but did a Google out of curiosity. It's near the airport, and rents out rooms on a day rate as well as overnight. This means that it either does a bit of business with transit passengers, or does short time for mongers, or both. Best thing to do is phone them and ask. No need to be embarassed, they will have heard it all before.
Good luck
TT
Thanks Mate! At least that gives me a place to start. I didn't know that it was close to the airport. How much and how long will it take to get to where the "action" is? Are you (TT) currently in LOS? If so, I'll buy you a beer later on in the week.

from airport to Suk you will need approx. 30 min. on an early sunday morning but during rush hour it might also be over 2 hours.
It is more convinient to stay close to the Suk area, saves time and money.
No choice! The company is paying for it and that is where they want me. Maybe they have their reason for not putting me in the Suk area!?!? Anyway, it is only for a few weeks and then I am on my own.
Traveler,
Are you currently in BKK and if not when do you return?

To answer the question about In-room internet at Marriot, a few posts back:
In regular rooms (I do not know about their "club " level), there is wired internet access (no Wi-Fi). The cost was approximately $15 US, and it was billed from 12 noon to 12 noon of the next day. Unless one wants to set up his internet telephone (like Vonage, etc...) for lots of cheap international calls, this is simply too much to pay for internet access.
There is a weak Wi-Fi signal in the main lobby of the hotel. I was able to surf to my heart's content for free one of those late nights. Sometimes you loose the signal, but it is good enough for general surfing. Just sit in the lobby and turn your computer on!
Across the street on Soi 2, exactly opposite the main enterance of the hotel, there is the enterance of a shoping mall building. Once in that building, turn right and you will soon come across an internet cafe. The place was clean and quiet, the price was extremely cheap, and the computers were decent.
And, BTW, I did promise everyone a Bangkok report and I hope to do it some time before becoming eligible for Medicare :).

HI guys,
I just booked my holiday to thailand for next year, (25 March - 6 april).
I'm Staying at the NArai in Bangkok. Does anyone stayed here before? Whats it like. I've been told its pretty good, near patpong, but I couldn't ask the travel agent if it was girl friendly :-)
Thanks again

To All,
I plan to bring my laptop to Bangkok and would like to know if I need any special converter in order to make my laptop works.
Thanks for all information
San Dog
You don't say where you're from, but no adapter needed if from US.
I would bring an extra 6' bit of phone cable though.
San Dog, most laptops have power supplies that will handle the currency used in LOS, which is 220 volts (you might want to check it to make sure, however) so the only real issue is the actual plug itself, so what you need depends on where you're coming from. I'd say most places have US-style two-prong plugs, but some others do not, and use instead the "Europlug" style, which has two round prongs rather than two flat ones. The simplest thing to do is just to pick up a set of conversion plugs or a universal set at Radio Shack or a travel store, and then you're set wherever you're going. Outside of Bangkok you'll need these more often.
All computers nowadays work in dual voltage 110/220. However not all are auto switching. You may have a switch which will need to be turned to 220 before you use it other wise it will get fried.
I'm staying at the Narai in Bangkok.
Has anyone stayed there before?
What's it like?
I've been told its pretty good, near Patpong, but I couldn't ask the travel agent if it was girl friendly.I remember the Narai, stayed there about five years ago. Rooms are okay for the price, think the pool was okay.
Yes, it is about a five minute walk from Patpong.
I only spent three nights there (I think), and brought in girls at night, don't remember there being any problems.
You could contact them and ask; a polite e-mail to confirm your dates and that your booking is for two people. When you check in alone mention your other-half will be joining you later, I find this works everywhere.
In fact, I have very rarely encountered a bringing-back-a-guest problem that can't be quickly resolved, and I've stayed in a million Bangkok hotels.
Maybe even a billion.
My own expierience is the Rembrandt is girl friendly but I have heard otherwise as well. I was there on business, stayed on the executive floor and had not problems other than the occasional key check.
I do know that the attached Rembrandt Serviced Apartments are girl friendly and very nice.
I had a very positive expierience at the Rembrandt
Duniawala and Joe Zop,
Guys, thanks for the info. I will get the convertion plug for my laptop. By the way, is any of you will be in LOS during Dec 12-25, if so I like to buy you a beer. Do you have any info on hand free restaurant?? I heard about it but never get a chance to try it out.

most middle range hotels (and up) have access to the internet in rooms but some will charge you a daily, weekly or monthly rate. it's worth it. also, many internet placesin bangkok now have have high speed access and you can bring your laptop and blug it in. even on soi 8 in pattaya.

Gents,
As you probably know, hotels are really filling up quickly - and in advance in BKK. With most of my usual places either full or exhibiting highly jacked up prices (like the President group), I've been searching for new alternatives.
I've read good things about the Tai Pan hotel, off Suk. 23 or so, on another hotel booking site, but never saw it mentioned here or,frankly, had even heard of it before in my many stays in BKK.
Anybody have any experience there? Thanks.

g'day gents,
there was some discussion about the royal asia lodge/ paradise on the board a couple of weeks ago, so i decided to try it out during my trip there last week. stayed in one of the one-bedroom suites (i think they're called queen suites) at the paradise. paradise (suites) and lodge (rooms) are separate buildings one door apart; though the main reception, restaurant, pool, etc. are all at the lodge.
booked on their website for bt1680/nt. booking was confirmed promptly, with a reservation code. no problems when i got there- it's a fair distance down soi 8 (almost to the end) but easy enough to find. staff were friendly and efficient, though the front-desk guy (i think his name is charoen) will try to get you into the tailor shop they have in the lobby.
the room/ suite was okay; a little drab, but spacious and everything works okay (full-size fridge, microwave, tv, hot water). very clean; no sign of roaches or bugs during the week i was there. also wonderfully quiet, since you're well down the end of a quiet street rather than being along the noisy main road. don't know what the rooftop pool and restaurant are like as i never went there.
one big plus is that they have complimentary unlimited wireless internet access in the suite - just fire up your laptop and off you go. used it a lot while i was there and it was pretty reliable. only dropped off once or twice during the week i stayed and the speeds were okay.
the hotel is a ten-minute walk from the sukhumvit road, but there's a complimentary tuk-tuk to/from the main strip. the security guards at the front door man the vehicle; and there's a call button in a side lane just off the main road to summon them for the trip back.
the hotel is *entirely* girl-friendly. the guard at the front entrance of the paradise never even checked ids once while i was there (which may be a little *too* girl-friendly if she takes off with your stuff!). another small sign; most hotel regulations say something like 'no guests in the room after 11pm'; in this case the hotel's regs say nobody other than the occupants *and their personal guest* (or some words like that)! says no gambling sessons/ parties etc. but says something pretty specific about personal guests being okay.
the hotel also has the standard massage packages for those who're interested (thai massage, oil massage, etc)
overall, if you want to be close to the action but not stuck on the noisy main strip itself, and you want an entirely girl-friendly spot with good basic facilities at an attractive price, then this is a good option. nothing pretty, but the right company in the big king-sized bed brightens up the decor considerably!
Grand President seems to be making up prices on the fly. I called them from home 3 times, and each time I was told that either they didn't have an Executive Studio, or the price that they offered was ridiculous. The day before my trip, I took their offer, but for 2 days only. It was 2400baht per night. I thought that was way too much for this room, but accepted as the other hotels I called were fully booked and I didn't want to sleep on the street. When I got there, I was pleasantly surprised, as the room is in Tower 1. The room is much cleaner and larger, and more modern than the rooms in Tower 3. Only problem is you have to parade your girls in front of the staff in the lobby to get to your room. But it is still girl friendly. I needed a room for 2 days at the end of the week and they told me that they only had a suite available at 4000baht. I told them it was too much and I would look somewhere else. In the morning, I asked the front desk (different clerk) if they had a room for the days I needed and they said they only had a suite. I asked him how much and he told me 2600baht per night. I jumped on it. When he was booking it, he saw my record and the price I was paying and he realized he had made a mistake offering me that price. But he didn't back down. Instead, he said he gave me a "special price for me". :) I have heard that one before. Anyway, I think a 1br suite for 2600baht is reasonable, and even 2400baht for the Studio in building 1 is kind of nice, but I wish they would settle on a price and not change it whenever they feel like it. Make sure you haggle hard with them if you want to stay there and they offer you a high price. I am sure I could have gotten the prices down, but I wasn't in the mood to get upset just days before my vacation.

if you may read back a couple of weeks and also about half a year ago I posted something about the Tai Pan, even pics.
I used to stay there during my recent trips. I guess the reason that the Tai Pan isn't mentioned here is the fact that it is girl UN-friendly. You will be charged 600 baht joiner fee.
Vision Thing.
Even with a 600 Baht joiner fee, the Tai Pan seems like a good deal.
I saw the rooms acouple of months ago, they are very nice, with some having a really nice view; and I think the price is 1200 to 1500 per night. Add in the 600, and you are still at a reasonable price. Cheaper than the GP, and much cleaner.

a superior starts at 1400 and deluxe at 1700 plus 600 joiner fee.
i recommend the promenade instead of royal asia. rooms there are a bit better and room rate is only 800 walk in cash. they will ask for 1000, but just tell them that you have been there before for 800. also soi 8 and not so far from suk, quite close to [CodeWord900] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord900) :)
Im new to BKK.
Will be going there first time next week to check the action on Patpong 1 and 2 strips.
Can expert brothers here advise if there is any girl-friendly hotel (1000-1500bath/nite) along these roads, or nearby area (3mins walking distance).
Preferable if the hotel has safebox in the room.
Appreciate if someone can response as soon as possible.
Regards,

The Narai and Silom Village Inn are close to Patpong, both are girl-friendly and within your price range.
There are loads of decent hotels in that area but I can't think at the moment, will get back to you.

Hi,
One more thing, booking from internet is cheaper or walk in rate?
As for Grand President, the rate for internet is around 1500 BHT, anyone know walk in price?
Thanks
Booking from internet is cheaper or walk in rate?
Booking online is nearly always cheaper.
I use www.precisionreservations.com.
But, in low season, if you speak good Thai, you can normally get a killer rate walking in.

Tulan,
yes, I have been there once. It's in Soi 15 close to the Royal President. Location is ok, just in between Nana and Soi Cowboy. Rooms are ok, but nothing special. It's mostly used by Koreans and other asian group tours. Most important, it's girl-friendly.

Hello,
I will be staying at the Twin Towers in Bangkok. Is this hotel decent? close to some action? Anybody else staying there? I tried searching but could not find much useful info.

I stopped at Manhattan in Feb '04. At the time there was building work going on at the rear of the hotel, with the machinery starting at 8am and going thru' to 8pm. If you are a light sleeper it would be worth finding out if this work is still going on. From my Nov '04 visit I seem to remember seeing the worksite boardings were still up, but paid little attention to them because by then I had discovered 'Majestic Suites'.
Hi guys,
RED ALERT!!!!! The Amabassador hotel is not a girl friendly place. I book a double room in tower wing and last night I took a honey back, they wanted me to pay 650 baht for join fee. I told them that I have a double room, so why I have to pay?? They said becuase the girl name is not on the hotel registry so I have to pay. The bottom line is this how they treat their loyal customer then I will take my business somewhere else. Just thought that your guys want to know.
Take care,
SanDog
What assholes!
Sandog, one final thing you could try is ask them to place this fee on your bill, just in case it is a night-staff scan.
Thanks for warning us.
By the way, my Thai friends who travel around the country a lot for business, and often bring girls to their rooms, have never heard of joiner fees. They told me that you're paying for the room, not who you bring back, just as in any other country. Imagine if a hotel in the US or Europe asked you to pay extra as you brought in a guest!
Joiner fees are a scam to get more money from Farang. I'd advise anyone who can't talk their way out of one to have it placed on their bill and have a polite conversation with the manager the next day.
I once checked out of a hotel in the middle of the night in protest of a joiner-fee. The next day when I returned to complain the manager was extremely apologetic.
FWIW, Sanukmaps has always had the Ambassador listed as girl unfriendly.
Hi all
This is my second Short visit to Bangkok
I will be there on 23rd Dec; I went through the last 6 months reports and collected some details regarding hotel and other information.
Here I short listed hotels which is less than or equal to 1000 B, if guys have any further information please PM me, I will include in the list.
I will be staying in Pattaya for 3 nights and Bangkok 2 nights only, I didn’t book the hotels yet, I am planning to do so at the earliest.
I will attach the Pattaya report in Pattaya hotels area

in Europe you most likely pay not only for the room but also for the occupancy. So two persons in a room are more expensive than just one. But almost everywhere in Asia you solely pay for the room. Many Thais share their rooms with friends- up to 5 or 6 persons per room - without additional fees. So it's only a scam to charge farangs. Shame on them.

a superior starts at 1400 and deluxe at 1700 plus 600 joiner fee.
i recommend the promenade instead of royal asia. rooms there are a bit better and room rate is only 800 walk in cash. they will ask for 1000, but just tell them that you have been there before for 800. also soi 8 and not so far from suk, quite close to [CodeWord900] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord900) :)just returned from a short trip to bkk and wanted to update the traveler's report on the promenade. while i can't compare it to the royal asia, the rooms were quite ok, nothing special, but not bad in any way. the rates have risen. both on the internet and on a sign out front they quote 1200 bt per night. since it is high season, i phoned in a reservation and told the clerk that i usually paid 800. she said that the owner had changed the carpet and wallpaper and then subsequently raised the rates. i finally got her to agree to 1000 bt per night. when i checked out i told her to tell her boss that the new carpet was nice, but not worth the rise in price.
i agree with tt that the promenade is pleasantly close to [CodeWord901] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord901)'s. another big plus when it is hot in bkk is that it is close to the escalator for the nana bts. it really helps when dragging luggage.
another big plus is that it is extremely girl friendly. they have a sign on the office door that reads (or close to it): "if you do not want to present your companion's id card for us to copy then we cannot help you if there is trouble later." when i brought girls back, they didn't even ask for the id.
all in all, not a bad experience, i'll probably use it again when i am strapped for cash.

Coolboy,
Nice list, but surely you could have unearthed more than just ten hotels if you trawled through six months of hotel reports.
Was nice to see you quoted my words of wisdom on the Peninsula.
People keep threatening to compile a list of hotels to save others having to RTFF, good to see that someone has finally made the effort.
Hi guys,
Thanks for reading my earlier report, the list can be updated and posted as you guys get different experience.
continuing to provide some information regarding Gril friendly hotels follow the link to find out more

Just got back from BKK after some client entertainment session at Hatyai and based on members notes, I tried Royal Asia. For the price booked on internet, could have a better setting hotel like Emerald or Silom Serene but the good thing is its in Sukhumvit and they couldnt be bothered with who I bring in. Its at the far end of the soi but there is free tuk tuk service. The room is dead big that could fit a family, its an apartment with kitchen etc. I stayed at the other block i.e. not the same block as the reception. Action wise, nothing much to say, went there for work but spent time with my usual girl.

First time to LOS and will be there over the New Year and looking for a decent place to stay. I was wondering if the Novotel at Siam Square is girl friendly. I've looked through the thread and had not found any information . Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

It looks like this is only for Pattaya, but it is not. It does not say if the hotel are girl friendly or not, but it gives you a wide range og hotels, with the real prize. Many sites add on a lot just for the web service..
Have a nice stay..

I was wondering if the Novotel at Siam Square is girl friendly. In my experience it was girl-friendly, yet another poster told me it was not.
The Novotel on Soi 33 definitely asks for joiner fees.
Guys,
I appreciate the information, since I'm only staying for a few days I decided to splurge a bit and booked a room at the Westin Grande.
Thanks Again.
