Iave just checked out of the Taipan Hotel - 5 min up soi 23 from cowboy - can Confirm - yes GF, typical register double, will hold id at front desk. Walk in rate of over 3000 but was able to get internet of under 2B.
Milestogo,
sorry, but I have to object.
I used to stay at the Taipan and they are NOT girl-friendly. They will charge you 600 baht unless they have changed their policy regarding this issue.

I'm looking for a midrange price (1k to 2K Bt) hotel close to soi Cowboy. About the closest thing I see is the Carlton Inn but can't find any info on it which tells me to stay away.
Thanks
Shamas O'Dognasty
Shamas,
the Manhattan at soi 15 is in a good walking distance to soi Cowboy.
The Regency Park at Soi 22 is much closer. It's part of the Accor Group (Mercure).

I'll be in BKK for my first time in a couple of weeks and was thinking of staying at a hotel called Suk 11. Has anyone stayed there recently, what is it like? Is it GF friendly? I realize it is probably rather basic but I would rather spend my money on the mongering than on a fancy hotel room.
Thanks for the input.

Jasmine City Hotel
I've been staying at Jasmine for the past three weeks and I strongly advise against staying there to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in the Sukhumvit area. The published price for a serviced apartment looks good but the bottom line is far from being competitive.
Although its positioning is perfect (it is only 2 minutes from Soi Cowboy) I've just found out to my cost that the 'hidden charges' associated with staying there more than outweigh its location. Everyone expects stuff like the mini bar and laundry service to maybe be a little above the street prices but you look at the prices and then you make your choice to either use them or pop down to the local store or laundry shop, but its these little hidden extras that really get me pissed off.
I made the somewhat stupid mistake last week of losing my visa cards (first time ever!) and obviously acted quickly to cancel them by calling my UK bank. Jasmine doesn't publish its telephone charges and there was no information in my apartment there but I thought, its only one call and was prepared to pay for the 'service' in this case. After a call that lasted longer than I expected (security checks and being passed to the correct department for both my debit card and then my credit card) I still thought it was a price worth paying.
However, I found out later I was presented with a charge for 6,300 Baht (nearly 100 GBP) and even when I queried this they still couldn't tell me what the rate per minute was as the pricing policy is so complex that you need an accounting degree to work it out.
After trying to negotiate with the hotel management I realised I was talking to a faceless organisation that didn't give a monkeys about some little customer...
I then started checking my other bills and every one of them includes little extras. Like a service charge of 2.5% everytime you use your card. The list goes on and has added maybe 10,000 Baht in various hidden charges so take my advice and steer well clear of this rip off joint.

That's pretty much standard at hotels catering to Westerners. The only way to avoid it is to stay were the Thai's stay.
I know some nice places for less than 1k a night, but they aren't up to Western standards. Clean, spartan and utilitarian, but not comfortable for a long stay or quiet.
I was in Korea recently and when I checked out of the hotel was suprised to see that my $207 a night quoted rate had swelled to $250 when the service charge and taxes were added. Thank God my company picks up the tab.

Should have bought an IDD card and used that with a public phone or a mobile phone with a local SIM in it. You would still pay at least a few pounds in connection charges to the UK, but definitely not 100 GBP.
I had to take care of a matter with a UK bank while I was in the Philippines and I used an IDD card with a public phone. Cost me about 4 GBP to get it handled to the point where I could finish the matter via the bank's secure messaging system which I could access from my laptop.
But you definitely do not want to call a UK mobile from overseas for any long period of time, those caller-pays charges add up fast.

Fair enough, Jasmine isn't the only one trying to use us as walking ATM machines and maybe if I was travelling on a company expense account I too wouldn't worry about it.
But I have never been taken for a ride like this before and just wanted to suggest that others try to avoid the mistake I made of booking into this place.
Finrod
I've learnt an important lesson in avoiding excessive charges - never again!
In a few hours I'll be in a bar down in Soi Cowboy drinking to the early deaths of those buggers and to another great evening here!
Can anyone recommend a hotel in the 250 baht range near Hua Lamphong Central Train Station?
Guys, I have just confirmed a last minute trip to Thailand and need some help. As you can see I'm a senior member and usually do my own leg work on the forum, but in this case I'm running out of time. In the short time I have when not working and sleeping, I will continue to scour the forums, but I am in need of emergency advice because I need to get a hotel quick.
I will be in Pattaya for most of my trip and already have things under control there (thanks to the forum!) but I need assistance for the night of my arrival in Bangkok. I should get in about midnight and need to have a OK hotel, close to action, clean, hot shower, girl friendly, IN-ROOM SAFE, and no joiner fee (sorry but I'm cheap!). I will leave the next day for Pattaya, so I just want one night in and out. I'm flexible with location as long as there are plenty of sweet Thai available about 1:00-2:30 AM for my 1st night in the country and it meets the above requirements.
I've been looking at City Lodge on Soi 9, but it is more expensive than the last time I was there and I wanted to stay under $50 (tax and vat included). City Lodge looks more like $65 per night total. After all, I will only be in the room from 1:30 am - check out. Thank you for your help. Private messages are welcome.
A report will be forthcoming following my trip!

Hello,

The Four Seasons on Ratachadamri is one of the best hotels in BKK. They don't have a night club and is catered towards the family and upscale clients.
If you bring in a tattooed Issan bar girl dressed like a hooker from Nana you are going to attract a lot of unwanted attention from management and security.
However, if you bring is an upscale girl who dresses and acts properly there is no way they don't know she isn't regestered there or your wife.
One suggestion: let her carry the key to your room like it's hers.

The comments I have seen state that it is old but clean and there rooms have an inroom safe. Being on Soi 15 near Sukhumvit road helps and it<s a 10 min walkt to soi Cowboy. Now at 2 am you can go to the Therma (Cofee shop)at the The Ruamchitt Plaza & Hotel (basment) 2 min walk from the hotel. I read that's where all the girls go after the bar closes.
Good hunting.

Thank you Champs and Retired Army,
I took a look and was pleased with both of the hotels you suggested. I sent an email to Majestic Suites to request a last minute reservation, but will have Manhattan ready as a backup if the Majestic is a no-go. I will give a report back here on the hotel I end up with once I return home. Thanks again.

Even if you decide to stay at the JW visit the sidewalk bar at the Landmark at about 6PM and enjoy the beauties on thier way to the office. Seems like ages ago but you grow up fast visiting 6 times a year!

International calls are generally expensive from Thailand hotels. This is not the case in all Asian destinations - HK, Malaysia, Singapore are usually OK, but the advice below is still valid.
Best solution almost anywhere is to have an unlocked GSM phone and use a local SIM. For Thailand any 7-11 will sell you a SIM (personally I use 12Call) without formality and at low cost.
For international calls, instead of using the default IDD prefix (which is what you get if you were to dial a UK number like +44....) use 009 as the IDD prefix to get the best rate. Rates are pretty reasonable, the order of 10B / minute to UK landline.
So to dial a UK # 0208 5676 8765 using a Thai 12Call SIM
dial 009 44 208 5676 8765
The 009 prefix may work with other networks than 12Call. Not something I've ever tested.
The SIM could pay for itself in your first call. It's actually cheaper to call a UK landline from a HK cellphone in HK than it is to call a UK landline from a UK cellphone in UK - £0.02 / min against £0.10 / min and upwards.
Should have bought an IDD card and used that with a public phone or a mobile phone with a local SIM in it. You would still pay at least a few pounds in connection charges to the UK, but definitely not 100 GBP.

I'd concur.
Absolutely GF, though I never saw anybody bring in more than two.
The guys at the lift will ask your girl for ID. If you indicate you know / trust your companion they will not insist. On collection, they'll ask your girl into a service area where they keep the ID's, I was never out of the room before 2pm and at that time still 15+ ID's in the box.
Never had any problem with dirty looks or disrespect to a girl, either on arrival or collecting ID on departure.
Can sometimes get a decent rate here through wotif.com , no problem with overcharging in my experience.
Door staff offered an 'airport car' but didn't protest when I requested a metered taxi. About 250B to the new airport.

Can't argue with the JW but I have a soft spot for the Landmark.
Landmark is also a good option. One of my favorite haunts is the Huntsman Pub in the basement.
To answer my own question, fan rooms for as little as 250 baht per night, and air-con for about 380 can be found at the Taipei Hotel in Chinatown just off the roundabout. The rooms are a bit rough, though, and the Chinese who run this place can be difficult. They happily showed me a room and I was about to check in when they insisted upon a passport.
I suppose I can understand their insistence, because the area is one of streetwalkers, and no doubt they wish to avoid being used as a short time place. There are several short time hotels in the area, but they do not prefer overnight guests.
The SriKrung Hotel just across the canal from Hua Lamphong train station offers higher standard rooms - air con and TV - starting at 600 baht per night.
I was surprised at the dearth of hotels in this area, considering its proximity to the train station. Can anyone suggest alternatives to these two?
I recently stayed at the new hilton on the quiet side of the river and had no problems with gf I had a deluxe room and access to exucitive level which gave 2 hours free drinks including top shelf each night- excellent. The girls loved it too.

I considered the hilton properties but was concerned about the girlfriendliness there. Were you able to find a nice selection of quality girls nearby? If so where? I just returned from my first week in bkk and stayed w/a friend at the penthouse at the president solitaire. Sweet suite, could accommodated 3 mongers if you were all close, but still required a cab ride back w/our new found friends from nep. Now am planning a return and seeking feedback regarding hotels within a couple of blocks of nep, ie, Majestic Suites or Majestic Grand or ???
Suggestions appreciated,
Thanks
Just returned from a ten day stint in the LOS. I was planning to spend some time in Bangkok and wanted to make sure I got a good hotel right in the centre of the action and girl friendly. I am a veteran of Thailand but have spent very little time in Bangkok itself, generally arriving at the airport and either flying elsewhere or getting a taxi to Pattaya.
Anyway this time was different, I was travelling with a friend new to Thailand who needed to be in Bangkok on business for around 5 days.
I spent some time RTFF and thought the Majestic Suites sounded perfect for my needs. I phoned them up direct and spoke to the receptionist, who spoke perfect English. She told me that it was impossible to give me the dates I wanted as the hotel was fully booked. I was really disappointed as this hotel seemed to fit my needs in terms of facilities, price and attitude. I then went on the internet and thought I would try to book a room through "Asia Rooms".
Amazingly I got the dates I wanted for me and my friend, even though the Hotel told me they were fully booked. The moral of this story is, do not be put off if the hotel you really want tells you they are fully booked, try with an agency as well. Maybe the agencies make block bookings themselves and sell the rooms on themselves, I don't know.
Anyway I met up with a girlfriend in Bangkok and so was not able to sample the ample pleasures on the doorstep, you can literally walk out of the front door of this hotel and score, I kid you not. My friend had a fabulous time and brought back a different girl every night. He never encountered a problem, indeed one night when he went to collect his key witha girl on his arm, the receptionist winked at him and said "have a good time".
The rooms were spotless, well furnished and for 1450 baht in the centre of Bangkok I think you could do a lot worse. Yes the American breakfasts are a bit sparse (do Americans really eat that for breakfast) but then for 1450 baht I am not complaining.
Absolutley no problems bringing girls in, even when my very young looking (but definitely 20 year old) girlfriend didn't have her ID with her. The views are not great (as reported previously) especially if you are at the back of the hotel, but no noise even if you are at the front.
The staff were helpful, friendly and polite and this would definitely be my first choice of Hotel in the future.
PS I am not on commission from the Hotel
I am a real fan of the classy massage treatments in Thailand, typically available in many of the five star hotels and resorts. Does anyone know of any hotels in Bangkok where you can have a really nice and professional aromatherapy massage with a happy ending?
Thank you in advance.

Thank you in advance.Marcusau,
The short story. I've stayed at many of the 5star hotels in town. Typically if they have a brand name spa on site. You are out of luck on your bid for a happy ending.
The only success stories I can offer. I stayed at the Shangri La a few times. If you call to have a massage delivered. You might be lucky and get a nice lady that is interested in a happy ending (or expecting it) but chances are the massage itself might not be all that great. My experience there.
5/10 massage
5/10 happy ending
2/10 bang for the buck
So. Trying to be creative. I discovered a nice massage joint in the building adjacent to the hotel. It's up on the 6th floor or so. A very nice place with a good Thai massage and oil massage. I typically opt for the oil massage and get a bump or rub from the service provider. One rubbed me several times and leaned over to give me a wet kiss. She told me. Have her delivered to my room next time and a happy ending is possible.
6/10 massage
8/10 happy ending (FS)
4/10 bang for the buck.
Being a gent that actually likes a good spa experience. I've tried most of the big names in town. Never any sort of happy ending in site. Sorry.
Last trip. I went to an MP (see the MP section) called Ogoto. The massage was actually very nice. 2 hour service that started with a very nice 1 hour of warmed oil massage. I think you could have scented if you asked. My provider was quite skilled at massage and very good at the boob, testicle, and FS massage. The joint is clean and professional, similar to a grade B spa in town.
7/10 massage
8/10 happy ending (FS)
6/10 bang for the buck
In summary: I'm 0 for 30 or so at nicer spa's in town. The search for a happy middle ground has been a challenge.
Now, if you should head to say Singapore. I've had many a splended massage at the hotel with a nice happy ending HJ. It'a a market opportunity for BKK that they have not identified unfortunately.

I'm looking for something bigger and nicer than the Majestic Suites, but less expensive than the Majestic Grande or Landmark or JW Marriott. I'm staying at the Dynasty Grande for a couple of days at the beginning of my trip, but now that their intro deal is over, it seems a bit pricey at 2280 baht per night. I'll be back in Bangkok for 5 days later in my trip, and I'd like something a bit less claustrophobic than the Majestic Suites, with a gym and a nice pool. Unless the Dynasty Grande blows me away, I'd like to try something different.
I can get a studio at the Somerset Lakepoint Apartments for around 1900 Baht a night, which seems like a good deal for what seems to be a nice place, with what look to be really nice pools and a gym. How's the location relative to Asoke and Sukhumvit? Any feedback about guest friendliness?

Somersets are usually GFE, I'm leaving for HCMC in a couple of hours and staying at one of their two locations (and definitely GFE). Also their China and Phil GFE. Best thing is to call them ans ask - they should give you a straight answer.
Another option but further out is Kanary House, kanarybay.com in the Bang Kapi area, on Ramkamhaeng Rd, near Rama IX MP area. Nice coffee house, separate lounge for drinks, etc....all WiFi free downstairs. Rooms are either one or two bedroom with full kitchen and L/R and D/R combo. Lots of long stays at this place, including japanese and other expats, and definitely GFE.
This is usually where I stay when need to be close to my Bkk office. At night, without traffic, B90 to Soi 33, under 15 minutes. Normal hours - 25 minutes.

Yes, they are owned by the same people, but different properties.
Thanks JD. unfortunately you confirm what I suspected to be true, what a shame! I will try your suggestions though.
2041: SL is a good value in large part since its a little out of the way. I never stayed there but visited someone there once. I believe its a 20 minute walk to Soi Cowboy which for me is difficult in BKK's heat. I would see if you can book a Topaz suite at Grand President. I've found them for B1800-B2200 depending on the date and how busy they are. I like the Grand Pres location more than any other hotel location in BKK. Easy walk to Sukhumvit, Beergarden, Thermae, Nana, BTS Skytrain, etc.
I've read good reviews about Dynasty Grande but never stayed there. I'm guessing you will like it from what I've read. For me paying B300 to walk less in that god awful humidity is worth it.
Gentle Giant, both the swiss park and grand business inn are good hotels, but the only draw back is I am reliably informed the swiss park charges a joiner fee, it never used to when I stayed there before (although someone told me that it always did and I was just lucky when I took girls home!) which is more than a year ago. But the grand business inn does not and takes id cards of the girls, so you should feel comfortable taking ladies back and for you own safety.
Hope this helps.
Grand Business Inn is a good hotel but I saw the clerk at the front desk taking some girls IDs just this past week. They also call your room before the girls leave so you should take comfort in that. There would be a lot less comfort in safety if they weren't taking the girl's ID and calling your room before they left.

Hi stayed at the Jasmine city for most of last week and I will recomend the hotel.
A stones throw from Soi Cowboy and about a 15 minute walk from Soi 6/7 areas.
They seem to be girl friendly as there was a sign that said that you can bring visitors but after 10 pm they will want the visitor to present ID at the reception. If unaccompanied then guests are requested to check the visitor from the TV camera (channel 1) and security will accompany the visitor upstairs. I didnt take anyone upto my room however around 10pm tuned into channel 1 and saw several ladies being brought in..
I saw one guy bringing up 4 ladies... damn nothing like being ambitious. I didnt see him at breakfast the next day... i wonder if he died of an overexertion induced heart attack during the night lol

Thanks a lot Patrick and Runn Man.
Just curious: Where do you guys stay in Bangkok usually?
I stay at the grand business inn but had problems with construction noise ealier this year, so I have stayed at several other hotels in the same area but there are so many and sometimes it can be hit or miss with the quality, it depends on how much you are willing to spend.
But I do like the grand business inn and I am hoping to stay there later this year, and I have been informed that the construction is nearing it's end and with that the noise. So fingers crossed!

Has anybody tried Grand Business Inn before? I read through bunch of reviews from various sites and this site, but I'm getting like mixed reviews. My first choice was Majestic Suites, but they said they were all booked. My second choices are Grand Business Inn and Swiss Park. You guys ever been to one of these hotels?
Thanks!
to gentle giant
Grand business inn is a better hotel than majestic suite , the room is much larger and newer for the same cost 1500 bht very good service and gf they will check girl id every time for your saftely , swiss park is not gf they charge a 400 bht joiner fee and the room is very old need to remodel this hotel, grand
also have wifi connection this hotel is only over 1 yr old .

Grand business inn is very nice for the money. Only problem is they don't have a pool.
They are also very strict on the "we keep her ID" thing. I was there a little over a year ago, and a friend of mine, Taiwanese, VERY nicely dressed, wanted to come up and visit me for an hour or so. We are talking 300$ shoes, beautiful silk dress, she looked lovely. They wouldn't let her up. She lives P/T in BKK, and doesn't carry her passport. So she was without any identification. She offered to give them half a dozen credit cards, but they just kept saying no.
Gentle Giant,
I posted this before and others have too but my favorite Hotel in Bangkok is Dynasty Inn Grande. Just can't go wrong with that Hotel, excellent value in everyway, I heard they are opening a disco early next year and adding a Spa on the 2d floor. Majestic Grande is also another excellent choice but these Hotels may not be in some people's price range. If you can afford them go for it you won't be disappointed with either one.
Thanks a lot Patrick and Runn Man.

I ended up arriving in Bangkok later than I thought when I arrived in Thailand, so I just took the bus straight to Pattaya instead of staying a night in Bangkok, but when I was leaving Thailand I decided to take one night in Bangkok, but when I arrived there very late at night Sunday, with no reservations, and needed a hotel. I walked around the area and inquired at the front desk of several places. Most were either booked or were charging $200 a night. One gay guy at the desk told me "sir this is Bangkok, all hotels will be expensive here." So, then I walked by the Majestic Suites and remembered your recommendations. The hotel was 1,250 baht per night and was just fine for what I wanted. It was clean, in-room safe, hot shower, girl-friendly, VERY close to Nana Plaza etc. Everything I wanted.

Somersets are usually GFE, I'm leaving for HCMC in a couple of hours and staying at one of their two locations (and definitely GFE). Also their China and Phil GFE. Best thing is to call them ans ask - they should give you a straight answer.
FYI, I actually ended up checking out the Somerset Lake Point apts. on my first day here after I had checked into the Dynasty Inn Grande. I decided that it's a bit too far out of the way (it's about a 15 minute walk to get to the corner of Asoke/Sukhumvit), and the room/pools/gym weren't any better than the Dynasty Grande, so I ended up booking the Dynasty Grande for the 2nd part of my trip as well. But thanks to everyone who gave me their inputs.

is it girl friendly and how close to the action is it.
Hi guys,
I've been booked into the Travel Lodge on Soi 19.
I heard it's very close to Soi Cowboy?
My main questions are:
- Is it girl friendly? Can I simply take any girl to my room? Or will she be carded by front desk?
- What's the quality of the hotel?
Thanks for your help.

is it girl friendly and how close to the action is it.
It is GF. You go down to the basement Thermae Coffee Bar, pick up the girls and take the elevator up to your room. It is always good to have the girls surrender the IDs at the front desk.
Or you can go to the lobby bar Bush Garden and pick one up. BF 500B. Negotiate rate.
Or you can walk out the front door and find hundreds all the way to Nana Parking lot.
As always, practice caution with any girls. Don't flaunt your wealth, put everything of value in the safe at the front desk. Travel only with a few thousand Bahts in your pocket and maybe a copy of your passport.

GentleGiant22,
last year I checked many hotels along Sukhumvit for a friend of mine who is a travel agent. I also had a look at the Swiss Park and didn't like it.
It's run down and it's NOT girl-friendly.
As far as I remember they charge 400 baht joiner fee, but if you book a double - which was 200 baht more expensive than a single - they will charge you the remaining 200 baht.
Search this section, I sampled an overview of the hotels back then with prices, a short description of the rooms and girl-friendliness.
I have already a booking at the Swiss Park Hotel Bangkok for a Superior Room twin for 2 Person. So normaly I don't pay a Joiner Fee for my overnight Guest.
But now I hear from several People this Hotel want's a Joiner Fee from them, although they have a booking for a double Room.
Please can you clarify this for me.

Wenzman

Thanks for the feedback guys.
Yeah, I was considering both Swiss Park and Grande Business Inn...but I'm gonna go with Dynasty Inn Grande.
Just one thing, they said the cheapest room is a deluxe room for 2,280 baht per night. Is that the correct price? I just think that's a bit higher than swiss park and grande business inn.
I only spent one night in Swiss Park Hotel. I even brought two girls "home" and we were neither asked for an id nor had I to pay anything additional.
Maybe it was an exception of the rule.
PS: I had two real sisters with me and will never do that again. Before beeing back in the hotel I found it exciting to fuck two sisters simultanously. They somehow were always ashamed and never relaxed. If I think, I would be fucked by one girl sharing it with my brother, then I can understand the behaviour. Why do we men always start thinking after our balls brain is statisfied?
I just got e-mail from the hotel. No joiner fee. (double room booking)
Greetings,

Stayed here again last week. Entry level rate is 2280 baht incl. The more expensive rooms aren't worth the extra $$$$.

There are only two Hiltons that I know of: the Millennium on the river ( nice view, but not close or easy to get to the action) and the other is the Conrad on Wireless Road which is within walking distance of Nana and Sukhumvit.
Hi Gi!
Still smiling after my first visit! Found out about the Abbreviations - Thx. Good that you all take care of the newbies.
I had my first trip to Bkk and it was just a huge positiv shock to me. Did not get all over the town but stayed at HRC, Gulliver, CM2 and Spasmo (Spaso?). Great time - still I can read in here that there is more to "do" in Bkk. Looking forward to next trip.
Had some great time with girls from these places - freelance you call it. Not used to LT but it was very nice - liked that more then ST. TG is so cute when they sleep ;-) and its good to wake up with them crawling all over you! Only wish to make you happy - and money for themselves. Not everone - one girl did note take any money. WOW nice girl!
I not into photo yet - I have them all inside my head ;-) You "veteran guys" write a lot from Bkk - nice and high quality reading. But dont forget that for a newbie it is just gret to be at HRC and Gulliver. For us this girls are just stunning - still we know there is even better places to visit next time. We can just ride on into the sunset with new girls and new places - thanx to you.
But please let us have fun on our ride - we need to learn and enjoy our ride as is goes on. We can´t start at the top - where shall we go when we been there? We want to follow the road to the sky and you all make it possible. Because of all your writing in here. Thanx!
Have a great time and be nice!

Guys,
I will be in Bangkok for a short break early in January -I tried to book a room at the Nana Hotel, as advised by a friend who was there earlier this year, by booking over the net. The company came back saying they couldn't make the reservation because of overbooking and they booked me into the Ambassador Hotel at the same rate.
How girl friendly is the Ambassador?
Is it closer to Nana Plaza or Soi Cowboy?
Thanks for your help.

Any hotel is girl friendly, it's all depends on the girl you bring in. Does she look like a "hooker" or a guest. If she looks like a "hooker" you are going to attract unwanted attention. If she looks like a guest she probably won't.
Ambassador is in a good location. It's right in the middle between Soi Cowboy and NEP. And extremely close to the Soi 7 Bier Garten, not too far from Gulliver's on Soi 5, and conviently located next to Soi 11 for restaurants and cheap bars.

The Ambassador charges a B600 "joiner fee" every time you bring a girl to your room, regardless as to whether you pay for a single or a double. The only way around it is to register her as a guest.
They station guards at all the elevators at all hours to enforce this rule.
There is also construction underway one three sides of the building, usually starting at 0700.
There are many better choices.

.
Not all hotels are GF even when booked for more expensive double room. Some hotel Desk will ask for gals ID and if dont match with the exact name when you 1st register yourselve and your guest then an fee will be added to your room bill. This happened to me at least once or twice at different hotels. I complaint that I got the gals name wrong when I register but it didnt work either. And the gals I took back (from what I remember) looked very ordinary and not like a street hooker at all. So best to stick with known hotels that are GF.

OK, I concede that the statement that “any hotel is girl friendly” is a little overreaching. Obviously this isn’t true at the smaller hotels with a limited number of guests. I was referring to large hotels where there are people everywhere. I’ve never had a problem, except in Russia and the former Russian Republics where security is all over you and they know the girls. If in doubt I would let the girl carry the key and act like I was her guest. A large reputable hotel isn’t going to take the chance of insulting a female guest. My point is: if the girl looks like she belongs there the chances of her being questioned go down. I learned this in the Army. Carry a clipboard and walk with a purpose and no one gives you a second glance. They figure you are doing something important even if you were screwing off.

How about the Landmark? I think it's about $100 a night.
Another good option is the New Holiday Inn at Chid Lom BTS Station. I think it's $89 a night.
Then there is the Majestic Grand. I think it's about $80.

Devil, I'd say that the choices are, the Dynasty Grande for around $70, The Majestic Grande for around $90, and the Landmark for around $110.
Also, you might be able to score the Sheraton Grande or the JW Marriott for a Priceline bid in the $90-100 range, plus tax and fees.
Keep in mind that the there are only 35 Baht to the Dollar nowadays, so the prices you've seen may in fact be lower than they really currently are, given the Exchange rates.

Gentlemen, Devil stated S$90 not US$90. USD90 is a big step up from Manhattan's USD 25 range.
Best bet, search in asiatravel.com or asiarooms.com or similar. If Devil had RTFFed he would have found his range of hotels. Since we old timers got bashed for suggesting RTFF, I had not answered his question. But due to the fact the fine print was missed.........

Grand Business Inn on Sukhumwit Soi 11 very close to main road is probably only S$60 per night. Easy walk to Nana Plaza or Soi Cowboy and also right on the Nana Skytrain station.
Just ordinary bath and no swimming pool but free wireless internet and girls no problem as long as they have Id.

Not accusing you, but there is RTFF as in: Try to humiliate a newbie for entertainment, as some of our old timers like to do (the pack dog mentality), and there is RTFF as in: Point a newbie in the right direction.

No offence taken, TT but I would be more than happy to point a newbie in the right direction if he has taken some efforts (even nominal) on his part. I have helped many in the past, if you care to look.
Case in point to Devils request. This is just a factual analysis not intended to flame or anything.
1. He has used Manhattan in the past. So he knows how to book a hotel in BKK.
2. He puts up the S$90 as his price point. Being an international board would it have been too much to convert it to USD or Euro? Instead we have to look it up and find the exchange rate.
3. If he knows how to book a hotel, he would be able to search hotels within his budget in the area he wants to stay in.
4. Now if he had posted the question which of the hotels would be GF, THEN we would be happy to answer and point him the right direction.
BTW, I did give him 2 websites to consider. And I have also published a list of hotels in the Suk area few months ago.

It really should be a sticky in this thread.
I will be arriving late January at 6 am in the morning from Melbourne. I will definitively like to have a nap as soon as I can to be up and running by mid afternoon.
I intend to book at Majestic Grande, or Majestic Suites.
Does anyone know what policy these hotels have with regards to early check-in? Do I have to book an extra night? or do they charge half price?
or do you know og any other hotel in the same area which offer this half-day booking?
Thanks
Not sure about these two in particular, but every Asian hotel I've used has been ok with early check in, providing they have rooms, right through from early morning. If they're full you may have to wait for a checkout and room cleaning. I've never had more than an hour wait.
If you ask the hotel directly you're inviting them to charge you for something you'd probably get for nothing.
If they do give you a problem, let us know here. Plenty short time hotels in the vicinity and company easy to find, even at that hour!

ThanksTry the Rajah Hotel, no reservations required. It is about 2 blocks around the corner just past the Nana Hotel.
Just had my first full day at the Dynasty Inn Grande, wanted to add a few comments regarding the hotel.
Great if not perfect location, right of Soi Nana and literally 1-2 mins walk from loads of decent bars and food choices. Excellent pool, not that big at around 15 metres but as with the rest of the hotel very clean and new.
Friendly staff, nothing but helpful and check in was the least hassle of any hotel I have ever stayed in. Looked at all the different types of rooms before checking in, basically you have two options of room, and two choices of building that are separated by the pool. There was a slight difference between the rooms in the different buildings, but not much with perhaps the newer of the two buildings (building B) being slightly more spacious.
I chose the slightly larger of the two rooms at 2680 BHT, the other was 2280 BHT and probably offered better value for money, however the room I chose was on the end of the building and on the face of it looked to be the quietest option.
Food is pretty good, internet works fine and is included in the price. In my room (building B) it is not Wi-Fi, I'm not sure whether that changes if you are nearer the lobby where they do have free Wi-Fi access.
The only negative thing appears to be daytime noise. I checked in at around 2pm and due to a monster hangover went straight to bed; but had trouble sleeping for most of the afternoon due to a very high level of what can probably be best described as "background noise". Every time someone closes a door in the rooms above, below or to the side of the room my bed shakes! There are also some very strange plumbing arrangements that result in some pretty loud gurgling noises from the room above whenever water is run, and this morning I'm being treated to a rhythmic thumping noise every few seconds.
It's strange, at night it’s deathly quiet, just when think it would be the noisiest, and in the daytime it's quite noisy, probably a complete reversal of what you would expect when staying in this area.
Anyways, just my thoughts, I will change rooms and see if maybe I was a bit unlucky in my choice, but would be very interested to see if anybody had the same experience. It’s probably just me being a bit uptight…

Just had my first full day at the Dynasty Inn Grande, wanted to add a few comments regarding the hotel.…Tomster,
Thanks for information. I stayed there last time in May and didnt notice bed shaking problem. I really enjoyed my stay. I wanted to book a room for this weekend, but there is no room available. When did you make your reservation? Each time I called them (since they didnt reply my emails), I was told that no room is available.

Dimension,
Bed shaking problem is probaly just my room, it's on the end of the block so that might have something to do with it.
I just walked in two days ago and booked myself in for 11 days, i'll ask reception when I go next go past to see what they say - are you trying to get a room for this coming weekend?
Tomster.
It's getting full in Bangkok hotels around 22.12.2006, as the travel agents told me. The major hotels are completely booked. We still have some rooms left, for the last minute travelers...

Weird stuff, because I checked in here last week and they had rooms, in fact even though its high season they are still charging low reason rates, when I made my reservation the price was 2800B per night but it was reversed back to the regular price of 2280B per night when I checked in. Point is they are not that busy and the hotel is not fully booked. Recommend you try the reservation page from their website next time to make your reservation or PM me your info if you like, I will go down and make a reservation for you.

I've stayed at Dynasty Grande three times now. The last time I could hear some noise from the next room but that's about it.
There are also some very strange plumbing arrangements that result in some pretty loud gurgling noises from the room above whenever water is run, and this morning I'm being treated to a rhythmic thumping noise every few seconds.
Worked out that the thumping noise is in fact the construction of a new nightclub on the second floor, have moved higher in the building and this has sorted it, now only have next doors TV to keep me awake.

http://www.dynastyinn.com/beta_R4.htmI am surprised that they are not fully booked. I tried to reserve a room for this Friday, but they told me no room available. I talked to them several times in mid November, and each time was told about no room availability.

ThanksDreams, the earliest, I have checked in was 8am to Dynasty Inn. I waited in the room while they cleaned. If they have room, there shouldn't be any problem.
Guys,
I think you are mixed up between Dynasty Inn (which cost 1280 bht/night) and the newer Dynasty Grande which is more expensive at 2250 bht/night.
Just my 2 cents,

Dynasty Grande is definitely NOT fully booked now. I was staying there to the 18th, and at the last minute, I decided to extend my stay to the 21st, and blow off a trip to Pattaya. No problem doing this at all, and they also have no problem letting me check out late on the 21st.
2280 Baht is the rate.

I can confirm that this hotel is girl tolerant but not girl friendly. I had a superior room with a large bed but had to pay THB400 for each night I took a girl up to my room. I told them that I had booked a double room but they retaliated saying that I had only booked it for one person.
Still managed to have a good time.

having just gotten back from my 2nd stay (10 nights total) at the dynasty grande, i thought i'd also give it a bit of a review:
imho, this place serves an important niche in the market - a full featured, guest friendly hotel in a great location with nice rooms, a good pool, a good gym, and a good restaurant, priced well below the deluxe 5-star places (2280 baht is around $64 a night at the current exchange rates).
the rooms are very good sized (nearly 3 times the size of those in the majestic suites, for example). with good sized bathrooms having separate tub and shower, and in-room safes. beds seem to be of excellent quality.
the pool and gym are quite good and large for this class of hotel - slightly better than the ones in the majestic grande, for example - but not as nice as the jw marriott.
the restaurant has an excellent chef, and both western and thai food are extremely well prepared and reasonably priced - although the service could be better.
the guest policy is very friendly. they take their id if you want them to, but they don't hold to it strictly - they consistently allowed me to take my semi regular thai gf up without stopping her to leave her id, so she didn't have to feel like a common bar girl.
staff is good and friendly and helpful wherever possible.
other than breakfast not being included in the base rate, and the furniture and amenities and lobby being less well appointed than an upscale place, there really is very little left that one would want. i consider this place at 2280 baht to be a superior value to the majestic grande at 2900 (with breakfast included - i'd say that the breakfast at the mg is worth 300 baht).
i quite like the soi 6 location, as it's surprisingly quiet at night, yet anything you wish is at most a 2 block walk away (including the nana bts stop, [CodeWord900] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord900), nana entertainment plaza, annies, good internet, laundry and travel agencies).
so now i have my preferred downtown sukhumvit area bangkok hotels classified as follows:
when i just need an inexpensive guest friendly bed/shower for a short stay: majestic suites, or dynasty inn.
when i need an upscale place to impress someone, or i am seeking luxury:
plaza athenee (great value when booked with starwood pts as a category 2) or jw marriott.
general purpose full service hotel - dynasty grande is definitely my favorite, and the best value around for this, imho, a better deal than the majestic grande.
Dynasty Inn is closed as far as I know. Dynasty Grande is great place to stay, free broadband and wireless. But do note that Soi 6, which is a one way street can get jammed up with cars etc at certain time of the day like evenings and some time noon . if you need taxi, you can walk over to Soi Nana or walk to BTS Nana to get a taxi. Carrying luggage, well walk to Soi Nana.
My 2 cents
Merry Christmas and a Hapy New year to Jackson and everyone else on ISG.

I did that, walked to Soi 4, and the stupid cabby made a left and went onto Soi 6 despite me screaming at him that "No, Bad Traffic!!!!" over and over again. Fortunately, I had allowed plenty of time to catch my flight, despite the half hour that this clown wasted by going the wrong way on Soi 4 so he could turn onto soi 6.
BTW, Dynasty Inn is back open - it reopened 2 weeks ago.
Life Adream,
I have stayed at the Swiss Park on three ocasions, the last on 30,11,06 and I have never been charged for bringing a girl back. The first two I booked a double and got a twin even though I said two people were staying. Last month I got a double. The only problem I've found is the bellboy who orders taxis for you(the older guy) and when they come, either don't want to use the meter or don't have one.
just spent 30 days there at a rate of 2133 baht for 1 bedroom royal suite w/ washer/dryer, free breakfast, 30 trip bts card, and airport transfers. not a bad place have stayed at solitaire and park of the presidents group in the past and found this to almost as good as the other 2 hotels. soi 11 is a good central location and offers 10 minutes to [CodeWord900] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord900) and bts. 20 minutes to either nana or soi cowboy walking which is fun just for the peolple watching on the journey. recommend sabai sabai massage on soi 11 and eating at german house is very good. there are smaller rooms booked by the month but i prefer to have 2 tv's so my friends can have there programs and i can have mine! it worked out very well. very guest friendly with no joiner fees. internet costs 2500 baht for a month or you can exchange breakfast for internet. room was said to be "recently renovated" means new appliances and a paint job. nothing special so dont get to excited.
packages are on a ask for basis, not advertise all the time so dont afraid to ask. tower 2 is where i stayed, friends in toer 3 were not as happy with rooms! sometimes better to book 30 days even for a shorter trip. rates drop in half.
oh yeah, [CodeWord900] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord900) soi 8 second soi on the right "see oie" best ever.

Brothers, I will be staying at a hotel called Bangkok Palace in Pratunam area as I will be attending a conference at the said hotel towards the end of Janaury 2007. As this is my first time alone to Bangkok, I need advise as to whether the place is near the great entertainment areas that you guys have been recommending and commenting on. I have tried to find information on this hotel from this forum but was not able to do so.
If the hotel is not girl-friendly, could you guys recommend me a hotel of similar standard close by so that I may enjoy the beautiful ladies at night in the comfort of my room.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers

I had similar concerns staying at Dynasty Grande. My flight was 8pm so checked out at 6pm (they charge 200 baht per hour after 1pm). I decided to try something different and as I had a backpack and sky train credit on caught a sky train to On Nut to grab a cab there. I knew the airport was out in that direction and figured maybe the traffic wouldn't be as congested. I was also short on baht and wanted to save drawing more out just as I left and thought it may also save 100 or so.
It was not worth the effort. It took me a few minutes to get a cab and it must of been the worst taxi in Bangkok. He headed back to Ekemai and the right turn off Sukhumvit took ages and twice when it was his turn to go he stalled (twice) costing us a couple of cycles. Once we got through the lights he couldn't get out of first gear! After a minute I made him pull over, paid the fare and got a new cab.
Traffic was still terrible and all up the journey took me an hour including sky train. It did save a couple of baht because we didn't use the expressway but was a waste of time. Next time I'l jump in a cab on Soi 4 or Sukhumvit for easy access to the expressway.
Think this hotel is a bit out on it's own, but a short taxi ride to Nana and a little further to Soi Cowboy. Usually better to flag down a moving taxi on the street than use the guys hanging round outside the hotel. Insist on using the meter.
I think Bangkok Palace is Accor Group (Novotel, Ibis...), in which case it may not be so GF. Staying at Ibis Siam (Ratchaprarop) was once (but not always) asked to pay a joiner fee. Staff were pretty insistent and I think it was official hotel policy, rather than night staff looking for a few extra Baht. Don't think Novotel Siam Square is GF either.
I find joiner fees intensely annoying and generally, if one is requested I won't use the hotel again. As has been pointed out in this forum, older Japanese men seem to be able to bring in who they like.
Dressing neat, not being too drunk and not having a girl looking like a real hardcore hooker may help. Definitely don't walk into the hotel looking like you're expecting to pay.
Resistance sometimes works, but this is Thailand so best not to argue. I try to ignore the request, then if this isn't possible ask to sign for it rather than pay cash. Where the fee isn't hotel policy, this can effectively waive the fee, or at least get a discount.

Hey guys,
I've just made a booking for a room at the Majestic Suites for next year through an online hotel booking agency. They have emailed me back saying that the room is available, and they are asking for a deposit which works out to be about 40% of the total price, and the remainder is to be paid 2 weeks before I arrive at the hotel. Since this will be my first holiday, and never having booked a room before, just wondering if this is standard practice?

'Bangkok Palace' is a family hotel for mostly Chinese tour groups and probably chinese owned. Not GF.
I never had a problem at the D'Ma Hotel just round the corner from Bangkok Palace but make sure you always book a room for two persons to ensure no extra fee. You will then get two breakfast vouchers per day.

Well Soi 4 doesn't help much.
I believe the problem may be that right turn out of Soi 4 into Sukhumwit road is not allowed.
Sometimes we think taxi drivers are going very strange routes.
Sometimes they are but sometimes, caused by one way roads and other turning restrictions.

I've never heard of this. Usually just a credit card is required to hold room for you. Have you tried direct booking with Majestic Suites on there website? I've used Asiarooms with no issue like this. Majestic Suites is a great location with small rooms and great staff. Anand I believe is the Manager and will give you the rules on this if you send him an email

Actually, the way to get to the expressway is to make a left from Soi 4 onto Sukhumvit, and go to the on ramp just before the Ploenchit BTS station. That IS legal with the traffic light, I've seen it done dozens of times. My cabby simply blew it.

Try not to do this. I don't trust those booking bastards. I have known people who have booked through these agencies and when they arrived were told that the room wasn't availabe (as if it ever was) and were sent to another hotel far from the action that was unacceptable. Try getting your money back. A lot of times the credit card companies won't be able to assist you. Book directly with the Majestic Suites even if you have to call them.
Either book direct or use a reputable online service. For direct bookings (not for walk in) if asked, the hotel will often match the online price in any case, as they've no commission to pay.
Two online agents I've used many times without problem are www.wotif.com (prepay, bookings for the next 30 days only) or www.asiahotels.com (payment policy varies but clearly stated). As always it pays to shop around.
