I'm landing in Bangkok on Tuesday (3/7) evening for my first ever trip to SE Asia and would really appreciate it if there were any experienced mongers who would be willing to show a newbie the ropes. There's some beers in it for you.
MP ... I will land mid day July 11 for a month. 50-50 BKK / Pattaya. PM your email if you need recommendation on anything while there. We can hook up if you are still around when I arrive
I always bring a bottle of quality Tequila as the good stuff is not easily found and it can make for some good enjoyment.
Any other "diplomats" in Thailand during July please.
I am a newbie both in this forum as well in Thailand. I would like to know what the legal age is in Thailand. I prefer the younger girls and would like to get any advice you might have!
I will go there in the end of august and I basically need advice on everything from accomodation to events and "fun".
Could you guys please help me?

Thanks for all the VERY GOOD information. I will use most of the suggestions and just bite the bullet in the end. I am also thinking of spending a couple days in BKK before moving on to Pattaya.

Yo Nuff Said,
That's a good fare for summer and a nice tip. The problem with posting
promo deals from airlines is that there is usually no availability on the advertised fare and it doesn't include taxes and fuel surcharges. What is actually available is usually much more during the summer..they can advertise anything that want, but that doesn't mean it is available in the world of airlines.
The actual cost of the a flight from SEA to BKK on EVA is $265.00 more than whatever is advertised due to taxes as well.
The net fare is still prety good even if you add the taxes and fuel surcharges, but it totes out to about $1175.00 and is impossible to get..what is avilable thru thru the end of august is more like $1500.00 all in. I've checked for my own trip.
This summer is expensive, due to full flights, fuel surcharges, and taxes. I've decided it's about $200.00 or more than the best deals last year.
Cheers,
Sean
Hi, this email is for some of you familiar with Thai airways online special fares.
Here is the problem : I am trying to invite a Chinese girl friend to Thailand. Obviously I wish to pay as less as possible. I am the payor, I am not in China at the moment, I wish to buy online with my credit card, I won't be part of the trip since I will be meeting her at Bangkok airport, and the airoport the girl will depart from is not elligible to electronic ticket.
Thai airways have some very low fares which must be purchased online, that I cannot find on anywhere else, even on cheapfare.com and so on.
The tricky thing is these tickets would have to be purchased not later than three days after booking, the person collecting the ticket would have to be me since my credit card has to be shown for charge and collection. What they call "purchase online" is actually booking online and showing up in a Thai ticket office (not airport office) of the country of departure to pay and collect the actual ticket. I don't know any Thai airways Chinese staff to bribe for help. I cannot ask the girl to go to the Thai office and pay cash to withdraw the ticket, as she lives too far away from this office.
Your mission : find out what is the way around that.
Your reward : a beer in Pattaya if you find the solution. And maybe my Chinese girl friend on top, if I get bored with her. She is hot and sweet, with very large breast for a Chinese. At least, if the operation is a success, you will enjoy some nice pictures of threesome (Thai+Chinese+me) on the thread soon.
Thanks

Have you called the Thai Airways office to find the solution. That would be my first step. i would call them and find you a solution but a beer and a cast off Chinese girlfriend just doesn't cut it for me. :)
Have a happy LOS vacation.
Of course I have. They don't have the solution becuse it is just the way they have disgned their online sales. They want to limit the very low fares to the card holder himself and to the country of departure, preventing you to pay a very cheap ticket for someone else in another country. Also when you book, you have to be a Frequent traveller with Thai, another mean to control who you are and what you buy.
Any more ideas like this one ?

I love tequila aswell
IMHO, you will have to bite the bullet and fly to China first. Meet your GF there and buy the cheapest fare you can find to go to Pattaya from there. You might find an even cheaper fare than Thai Air there . . . maybe. I have never hopped from country to country by air so my concern with this plan is issues with customs and immigration.
Too many variables can go wrong with your plan. There are too many issues with timing and the possibility of missing a connection. Don't know how travel savvy your GF is either. Your best and safest bet is to be in China and lead her by the hand to the airport and fly out to Thailand TOGETHER. It is no fun dealing with credit card companies and airlines after the fact, if something goes wrong.
My two cents.
Erik
I don't know how much time you have, but you could have an extra credit/debit card made in her name and mail it to her. Just limit the account to the sum of the ticket.

How about Western Union her the money and let her get the ticket.
That way, if she actually showed up, you'd really know that you got a keeper.

Or you could get the second card in her name pay for the ticket then send the card to her so you know she will not spend the flight money on somethingelse

If you do it that way, cancel the card as you send it to her, or you might be in for an unpleasant surprize, when the bill comes.
How much cheaper is this ticket anyway? Seems like an awful lot of trouble, but that's just me.

(Money Magazine) -- With today's weak dollar, you need all the help you can get when traveling abroad. Here are a few tips on how to squeeze that last euro out of your greenback.
Put it on plastic
Your best best is to use a credit or debit card. A typical cost of €1 after fees is $1.35 to $1.39 You generally get the wholesale exchange rate, which is the best conversion available. (Recently one euro went for $1.35.) Fees tend to be 3 percent or less.
Star players are Capital One and Discover. Both are free of exchange fees.
Hit the ATM
Your next best bet is to get cash from the ATM. A typical cost of €1 after fees is $1.40. Again, you get the wholesale rate, with minimal fees - 1 percent to 3 percent, often in addition to a flat charge of $1 to $5 per withdrawal.
Check ahead to see whether your bank has affiliates at your destination; you'll pay less on those machines.
Star players are Citibank because it charges no fees at its ATMs abroad; Bank of America charges no fees at some affiliated ATMs.
Do leave home without them
Warning: Leave your traveler's checks and prepaid cards at home A typical cost of €1 after fees is $1.45 and up. The exchange rate on traveler's checks is 6 percent to 10 percent over wholesale; up-front fees can hit 1.5 percent. Most merchants no longer take them, so you may pay even more charges to cash them at a currency exchange.
Prepaid cards cost $5 to $15, and the exchange rate is wholesale plus 2 percent to 7 percent. They aren't always accepted, and you'll pay to use them at the ATM.

The best exchange rate you can get is changing cash at Superrich in Bangkok. They have spreads as little as 3 satang at times. (Most of the time it would be around 10 satang, still unbeatable).

Hummm ... The last time I was in Pattaya all the money exchage booths were offering a substantially better rate for travelers checks than for cash ... including credit card exchanges in which another 3% is charged by your own bank.
I opened an account at Bangkok Bank then, and next time I intend to transfer money from the US to that account before I arrive and then use my Bangkok Bank ATM card to get cash in Baht. I imagine that will be the best way to go. I'd like to hear from anyone who has done that.

I just booked a Thai Airways flight this morning from JFK to BKK on 10/13/07 returning 4/10/08 -- a non-stop 17 hour flight for only $1,083. I think it's a good deal. The last time I flew United on a flight making 2 stops and lasting more than 27 hours for about the same price.

Gentlemen,
I agree with Daddy07. In June this year the rate for traveller's cheques always was a little bit better than for Bank Notes. Euro as well as UD Dollars. Just now I have a look on my bank account at Kasikorn Bank via Internet. They offer 45,07650 Baht for 1 Euro in Bank Notes and 45,31250 Baht for Traveller's Cheques.
Using the plastic money from Visa or Master means always minimum 5 Euro fee for the bank, depending on the total ammount, that you withdraw.

The best way I've found to do this is to open a CitiBank online checking account. It's easy to do over the internet (and at times you can get 20000 or so American miles for opening the account). You can fund this for as little as you want and make sure it is not set up for overdrafts or tied to any other account. You can make transfers over the internet.
Citi sends you an ATM wich you can send her and there are no fees at any of it's ATM's or at ATM's in 7/11's in Thailand. Don't overfund the account and if things don't work out, close it or report the card stolen.
Cheers,
Sean

I'm a world traveling monger that's had my s.hare of German FKKs, Prague and Amsterdam girls but is going to Pattaya for the first time Aug 5-10th... Was wondering if there was anyone going to be out there at the same time that could show me the ropes of how things worked out in Pattaya?

Thank you
I need some help on a place to stay on Koh Tao. Did a search and not much turns up. I figure there is someone here that might offer some advice.
My Thai GF has suggested that we go there during my next trip in August for a long weekend. I have been looking at the hotel web sites for a decent hotel, but it is often hard to judge what is good from those sites.
I am looking for a decent place with a/c, TV in the room (TGF requirement), and internet access perferably in the room. Clean and comfortable with a big bed is most important. I would like to spend no more than $100US per night. Cheaper is better though.
Location should be near a decent beach or within walking distance of restaurants and other things. I have had my fill of 5 star hotels out away from everything.
Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. Since the TGF is accompanying, nightlife there is not on the agenda.

DaddyThat's a tremendous deal! Thanks for the heads up. Unfortunately, when I went to the thaiair.com site and plugged in the dates I needed (out on 12/19/07 and returning 1/7/08) I got the usual $1,700 fare
Anyone that has ideas on whom to call for a better priced HIGH SEASON ticket let me know. I am sure there are some tricks that I am not aware of out there.

I checked with Orbitz, Kayak, Cheap Tickets, Travelocity, and other agency services who's prices were all sustantially higher than dealing directly with the airline. I am heading back to the LOS July 19th after a five year hiatus. I will be spending most of my two week trip in BKK. So, if anyone wants to get together to share a pint, exchange war stories and/or hunt down the perfect spinner, PM me.
I have spent the last five years mongering my way thru St. Petersburg, Rio, Amsterdam and Frankfurt, so I have plenty of stories to share.

Just a heads up on this topic.
Its also a god idea to get fare alerts from Fare Compare and check the Mileage Run posts on Flyertalk.
The airlines often make mistkes when filing fares and there is usually a short window of opportunity to get the tickets. I was sweating out the high fares for my trip to LOS next month and scored on a mistake fare that CI filed last saturday, it was around for about 12 hours before they pulled it.
The fare was $50.00 round trip LAX-TPE-PNH, with all the taxes and fuel surcharges= $302.00. Add Air Asia $90.00 all in from PNH-BKK-PNH, the total cost was $392.00. I bought four roundtrips.

Hey Sean and others, when you find such deals why not post it so that we all can have a shot at it. Much appreciated and congrats on your coup.
I'm travelling to the LOS from the UK on Aug 29 = 4 days in KL, then to BKK.. and then Oct 27 back to KL for another 4 day stop-over before returning home to the UK.
I understand I get a free(?) tourist visa for 30 days in Thailand, but have to pay extra for up to 60 days? Is this cheap & easy to do on arrival, or is it worth pre-booking a few days in PP/Cambodia mid-trip so I have the flights and can show I won't be in Thailand for more than 30 consecutive days? I want to go to Cambodia during my holiday anyway (or Penang, or both), but hoped I could be a bit more flexible and arrange it when I'm in Thailand.
I've been RTFF for over a year now, so I hope that's not too much of a naive question.
Thanks in advance.

You will get a 30 day visa on arrival. When you leave and come back you will get another 30 days. At least that's what I get when I transit in BKK on my way to and from India and I have a US passport.
One thing you might do is to have a single ticket with UK- Cambodia as a RT and BKK as a interim/change/stopover destination. This way you should have no hassle.
However, the above is from my experience. Others may have more ideas/experience.
You will get a 30 day visa on arrival. When you leave and come back you will get another 30 days. At least that's what I get when I transit in BKK on my way to and from India and I have a US passport. Thanks for the advice. Do they make a fuss about checking that you have a departure ticket? I'm beginning to think it's just nerves and I'm fussing over something that is no real problem.
They don't seem to care about the departure ticket. They just log you in and send you on your way (that's for 'Murcans, Canucks and "major" Europeans, though - no idea about "others") I mean it's a bit difficult to check "DEPARTURE TICKET" AT LAND CROSSINGS - particularly if it's ELECTRONIC.
Just so you understand - you are allowed up to 30 days on the "on arrival" visa. If you leave for 1 day or 1 hour or whatever and come back, you can then stay for 30 MORE days. Then you can repeat it again for a total of 90 days - BUT THEN YOU NEED TO LEAVE AND STAY OUT UNTIL THE 180 DAYS FROM THE FIRST ARRIVAL HAVE ELAPSED. You are allowed 90 days in country out of each 180 days. So...IF you are "in" for 30, "out" 30, in 30, out 30... YOU CAN ESSENTIALLY DO THAT FOREVER WITHOUT BUYING A LONGER TERM VISA. It CAN get a bit "difficult" if you make a mistake.
Thanks for the advice. Do they make a fuss about checking that you have a departure ticket? I'm beginning to think it's just nerves and I'm fussing over something that is no real problem.
When you arrive you have to fill out a form as you do in every country. But you also have to fill out the departure card at the same time. They stamp your passport when you leave so they know how many days you were in Thailand. However, I have only seen once where they wanted to see the ticket, out of 35-40 landings at BKk, perhaps because they wanted to double check the info.
No need to be nervous unless you are carrying any illicit materials. Just enjoy.
Duni, Dinghy,
It is my understanding that within 2 quarters you can be in the Kingdom for no longer than thee months.
When I left in January, they marked the number of days on the ground in my passport: 26
When I left last week on a visa run, they checked the departure card, but they did not mark the number of days in my passport. But I assume they still enforce the 90 day maximum per half year.
For newbies: The departure slip is attached to your passport and it is checked against your arrival card by computer when you leave. This is no big deal at all, unless you don't have a departure card to match your arrival card, as in you don't have one at all, you stole, found or were given one!
Does anybody knows where at BKK airport there is a (safe) luggage deposit for a week?
I'll be in transit on intl route and will take some days off and want to travel light for those days.

One way to do that would be to overnight in Bangkok at a decent hotel the first night before going other places. Must good hotels will hold on to your bag for no charge while you are off elsewhere. When you come back and check in, they bring the luggage out for you.
I am sure though that buried somewhere in the bowels of the airport there is a place to leave your luggage for a modest fee. I have never seen it though. Hopefully someone at one of those information booths will be able to tell you where it is.

Greetings,
With all due respect, why did you post this in the TRAVEL PLANS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS thread?
Anyway, moving one report is a 4 step procedure, so it would be easier for me if you would simply re-post this in one of the discussion threads.
In the future, please consider that the TRAVEL PLANS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS thread is for posting ANNOUNCING YOUR TRAVEL PLANS, not for travel questions, travel advice, etc. If members start posting questions and advice, then the TRAVEL PLANS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS thread quickly becomes a General Discussion thread, and then we no longer have a thread to announce travel plans.

Hello everyone,
I am planning to arrive in Pattaya after the new year. I will be arriving for the first time and I understand that the hottest place to meet lovely Thai girls is in Soi 1-15 and Beach road, right? I am going to hotel reservation but I am scared it will be too far away from all the action. Thanks!
Check the Pattaya hotels thread. Don't worry about being too far from the action, the action is all around you. Baht buses are only 10 baht.

I am going to hotel reservation but I am scared it will be too far away from all the action. Thanks!Check out www.gothailand.com. Soi six, seven and eight are the hot spots. Bar fines 200-250 bt and p4p 500-1000 st and 1000-2000 lt. Don't ask offer 500 for st. On the beach 500 st.
Taxis from Bk 1200 tell them that tolls are included, don't ask; tell them.
Creamz - what you need to understand (you have not been to Pattaya before) is that the distance between soi1 and soi15 is about 2 KM. Soi1 is at Pattaya north road and Soi15 is south of Pattaya south road. Along that stretch there are side sois (soi 6 "short time bar" soi, soi7 and 8 beer bar sois, Second road (one road away from the beach which not coincidently is called "BEACH ROAD" has numerous beer bars as well, soi13/2 (also called soi post office) has bars and "pump station" BJ bar, soi 14 is home to bars and ladyboy bars - in fact stay out of "boyztown" unless that's your thing - lots of advertisements for "go-go BOYS there - (not my thang, though), then at the end of Beach where it turns to South Road, if you continue along, it's "Walking Street" maybe 650m to the end and bars of every shape and size with girls of every shape and size (and some who aren't girls, too)) Whatever you want - it's there, it's available and it's inexpensive, too. I've been going for 6 years now and have only scratched the surface of the town. Those pickup trucks with the covers on the back are called "baht busses" - 10 B will get you from one end of town to the other. Watch out for katoey (crossdressers) pickpockets on beach road on the "non-beach" side of the road after maybe midnite.
oh, and RTFF, too. There's LOTS of info in the Pattaya section
and for those of you who speak Thai - eek hok wun ma meung Thai. Can't wait...

I'll be traveling to Bangkok at the end of the month. I arrive on October 27th and fly to Beijing on the 31st. I've mongered in the US, China, UK, and Germany. But, I'm always scared senseless when I'm doing it in a new country. Any guidance would be awesome! (I'm reading up a storm too). Also, if you'll be in Bangkok at the same time and want to grab a beer - maybe show me the ropes - send me a pm.

Staying at the Mandarin Oriental. Searched and it's reportedly girl-friendly but all posts were back in 2005. Any recent experience with this hotel being girl friendly? I'm also considering the JW Marriott or the Conrad Hilton as they are closer to my business interests. Besides my own business needs, any reason to choose one over the other? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I suggest the Marriott on Sukhumvit. Close to action, GF. Side door to avoid walk of shame.

Thanks much. Got ahold of a map. And the JW Marriott is indeed very close to Nana. I can't think of a better place to be!
Thanks,
David
Wolf, you just cannot go wrong with the JW. It is 3 minutes from the largest playground in Asia, and very GF. Between all the places you mention, I would pick that one.
Sorry, reading my post, I realize I was wrong. It is 2 minutes from the largest playground in Asia.

Hello,
I'm Tawianess-American. I'm going to vacation from Nov. 8. 21 to Taiwan first then Thailand.
I'm a question concern about the corruption level at Thai land. I just received an email from my cousin at Taiwan about a Taiwanese business man got black mailed by the Thai land authority by claiming a bag full of drug is his and want him to pay money. He got jailed because of that and while in jail every other nationality got their handcuff take off but not his since Taiwan have no relationship with Thai land.
My question is how corrupted are these 3rd world countries? How to avoid such situation? What if you go mongering and some cop show up and asking you to pay. Etc.
I'm a USA Citizen. Would I have a easier time with my USA Passport?
Thank
I will be transiting through Bangkok, meeting the gf when I arrive. I will be knackered from a long trip and have four hours in Bangkok.
Are there any reasonable priced short time hotels nearer the airport so that I do not have to go into Sukhumvit to get a nap and a catch up cuddle?
Thanks in anticipation.

I'll be there during your visit if you want to head to dinner or such. Just PM me.
I'm a dual passport holder, USA and another country that does not have relations with Thai. So if Taiwan has no relations with Thai, how would you get in on a Taiwan Passport without a VISA? Can you get a Visa on arrival for Taiwan Passports? I have to use my US passport to get in or I need a VISA for the other passport from a regular Thai Embassy, no visa on arrival for me.
So I gotta think you have to us your US Passport don't you?
EDIT: As far as corruption goes, I find them a whole lot less corrupted then other Asian countries. I've never had an issue and never anticipate having one. I've had more problems entering USA after leaving SE Asia then I've had in Thailand.

I'll try to see if I can get away from the tourist group that my cousin have signed me up and perhaps you can show me around. I'm not even sure I can get away. I want to come to Thai land by myself since mongering is really what I want to do but my cousin never been to Thai land and she want to tag along so. I'll be really [CodeWord140] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord140) if I don't tap some Thai chicks ass while I'm there.
I mention the email that my cousin send me to my dad since before we move to the U. S. He did a lot of business all over Asia and he warm me it is possible and tell me to becarefull. I'm guessing a local guide is a must. How do you guys find your way around without a local guide? How do you know where the booty is and what to avoid?
Can I get some tips? My cousin is looking for 5 days tour to book that will go to all the typical Thai land tourist spot like riding elephant. Etc. Do they have "working gals" in tourist spot? You know the typical "Walt Disney" like tourist spot that is fun for the whole family but not monger?

I hate it when guys reply RTFF, but did you read anything on the Thailand thread? You could be blind, deaf, dumb, no arms or legs and still find girls in thailand. If you got the baht you will get some.
Local guide??? You can't help but to find girls in Thailand. I even found a girl at a firggin zoo once while I was with a girl. I don't think I've been to an area where I couldn't find a lady (granted I haven't been all over but I've been to some remote places). And I'm a baby compared to some of these guys here who have been mongering in Thai for 20 - 30 years.
What booty to avoid - if it looks like it is diseased or smells don't eat it. Other then that use common sense. If a girl off the street quotes you 5,000 baht for short time and you accept then you deserve what you get.
As far as being with your cousin it won't matter at all I still have girls come up to me or I talk to girls and I have one girl that I am with in BKK. It doesn't matter at all they still come to you. It's usually my lady fronting and telling the others to bugger off.
I'm not sure if you are looking for Disney but the closest thing there is to that is Dream World (a place that I have found that many girls enjoy going to). And I have gotten mobile numbers from girls I met there.
If you can't find it in Thailand then you will never find it anywhere else in the world. Walk into massage parlors or read the thread on massage parlors or head to cowboy at night or anything. There's a huge thread on massage parlors here that the members have posted on that will guide you perfectly.
If you want more then that, head to Livingstones, they post here all the time and have their own thread here on ISG and there is a sports bar on their property and you will be taken care of perfectly. Not as cheap as a Thermane or a Nana girl but if you want to break your cherry in Thailand and not sure how to do it they'll take good care of you and start you on your way.
I'm not trying to be rude to you but really, just read some and you will find all answers. Join up and become a senior member it's cheap and then you can PM me or other members for direct questions.
Now I will be more then glad to hook up with you, but it's gotta be day time and to a MP as I have a regular girl I am with. I am also there for work but if you join up so you can get and send PM's I'll be Happy to take you on your cherry trip to a BKK Massage Parlor. I could arrange to run out at night too with warning but I couldn't LT a girl back to my place so even if it is to a BJ bar then that's fine.
My advice, join up, read the forum and enjoy. If you join up I'll help you out a lot more. What's 20 bucks? You'll learn enough to save you more then that and you'll get better enjoyment out of your chase in BKK.
EDIT: Heck maybe my lady would enjoy going out to the clubs we've done it before. So join up and give me a PM. You're gonna fly all the way to BKK and want to get some so I'm sure you can join up here.

I Luv Puss,
Don't get yourself so excited! You will stick out like a big balloon. You don't need a guide! If you walk around like a tourist your going to be taken everytime. Remember everyone pays their dues so don't get discourage if you feel that you over paid and didn't get much service. Learn from your mistakes! We don't have all day so do a little research! Depending on the time you have don't spend too much time on tourist attractions. For example: I remember my brother years and years back booked a Crocodile tour in Bangkok, we spent 4 hours on the road, 2 hours on the attraction and another 4 hours back to the hotel. I nearly killed him! Traffic is a killer! spread it around!
Good Luck,

Trying another hotel in BKK that I haven't used before, this time on the cheap, Majestic Suites arriving Nov. 13th, for 3 nights. Unsure who may be tagging along with me not that it matters, but thought I'd see who might like to meet up as this has been a blast in past visits. Will undoubtedly upgrade to a 5 star hotel on the Suk for a week after I try the MS. Will Cowboy a little, NEP a lot, MP during the day, Beer Garden some but hope to find new attractions. Open to & willing to make suggestions so PM ideas.
I will be in Bangkok November 24th at 8:50 pm and will be in town thru December 2nd. I should be check-in and in clubs by 10:30.
Looking for anybody who might like to meet up for a drink or 2, I have hook up with people and had a great time in the past! I have been coming to Thailand multiple times a year, to many times to count. It is always great to hook up with people! Actually, a few times 8 to 10 from the board have got together for a club march in the past.
I will be going to the Cowboy, NEP, Soi 33, Patpong, oily and soapies during the day, and of course some of the daytime hang outs in town. If you are a first timer, it is always fun to show first timers around.

Hello All,
Should be coming through about the 28th of December, for just about two weeks of fun and games.
Have some actual sight-seeing planned as well, but would love to meet with the local troublemakers, and get some advice and simple company.
Planning some "real" activities as well, including visiting Angkor Wat, but refuse to let that get in the way of bar-hopping.
I'll be at Livingstone's, when not tearing around every halfway-decent attraction or spectacle the LOS can offer.
Regards,
Matthew
Hi,
I’m planning my first trip to the Philippines and Thailand probably towards the end of November until the money runs out. I should have at least $7k US and will be wanting to make it stretch. I think at a minimum I would like to go to Angeles City, Pattaya and Phuket.
Right now I’m looking for advice on travel arrangements and visas. I would like to have as much flexibility in my arrangements as possible; I. E. Be able to stay in one place for a while if I like it or move on to the next. I know this would probably be the most expensive way to handle things in terms of air fare and the cheapest would be to lock in an itinerary and stick with it. I’m wondering what my alternatives are. Should I pick a place to go first, such as AC with a cheap return ticket and then book a flight to Thailand from there, or are there "Round the world" options or what? From what I can gather now, visas aren’t required for Thailand or Philippines as long as you have ongoing travel tickets. Is that right? What if you don’t have an ongoing flight?
Thanks for the help, guys.

First, $7K will go you a long way...make sure you read up on all the threads and you'll get more bang for your buck.
Second - flights: do you want to fly budget economy or business? Big difference and that'll probably be your major expense item. You can probably book round trip to Philippines and then do local flights to LOS
Hotels and food - if you're on budget (as opposed to first class 5 stars), $50-75 per day is plenty.
Liquor: I don't drink anymore, other's can help.
Mongering - you really need to read up and figure out how much action you want per day. Do you want to experience multiple partners per day, do you want someone for a few days, etc. etc.
Last - strongly suggest you subscribe here so that you can get PM from senior members. You'll get more feedback that way.

Will be in Pattaya for the first time on Saturday afternoon. Anyone have any must see strip clubs and dining places. Looking for good drink service and cute girls. ThanksYou are taking a chance, as the visa requirements say you have to have an outbound ticket. I came here about 5 weeks ago, and they had signs up saying you had to show your outbound ticket, or copy of an e ticket itinerary.
I arrived last sat again, and no signs, and the immigration official did not ask. Not sure what would happen to you, if they ask you and you cannot show ou have an outbound ticket.

Thank you,
Total NewbieHave fun. Not common to tip the dancers but you can if you like. It doesnt work the same as in the usa as it does in Pattaya. You just go in and order a drink (can be beer, tea, water, whatever). Sit and watch the girls. If you see something you like call her down or tell a service girl. These girls have radar so they know when your looing, smile and make eye contact. We faralangs look much better when we smile. Now if any girl sits with you, you do not have to buy drink. Don't feel bad cuz some will try to make you look like a bad guy, just say "I only buy drink for lady I bar fine" now sometimes a girl will go get cold towel and cool your face off without you asking, now I always tip the girl for doing this even though I didn't ask. But there's no must see place, they all will seem to be the same after a few days. My suggestion do not forget about the beer bars, excellent place to sit and look at the eyecandy. As far as food it's everywhere and good.

ThanksThey never ask me to see my ticket when I enter, they really don't care. It's a slim slim slim chance they might ask for a air line ticket, if so just make one up on your pc and print it out. They won't know any better. It's not like they check with the airlines about you.

didn't get asked last month - IF one is obviously farang and speaks reasonable angrit it's unlikely they will ask about the ticket - they've gotten used to "e-tix" now. About the only thing they DID ask was "how long?". Just answer 30 days and they won't care
I'm coming to BKK at the end of November, and want to take an ex-BG out to dinner. (Ex because she is now married to a Japanese guy who will be away... You know what I am thinking!) Looking for a resaturant that is reasonably up-market, good price, good atmosphere, not too far from Suk, Preferably Thai or international? Any suggestions?
I will be in BKK from 28th Nov - 3rd Dec if anybody fancies meeting up for a few beers.
The Restaurant "Cabbage and Comdoms" down Soi 12 about 300 meters is a great place to go. It has great prices, great food, and the atmosphere is great. If you go after dark when all the lights are on and dine outside you would not guess you are in Bangkok. They have people from a local school doing small show with traditional Thai music or dancing most nights. Do not let the name scare you, there is a story behind the name that you can read about at the restantuant. It is a great place to go, for a date type of dinner. It should be just the place you are looking for.

Will be staying at Sunshine Residence just down the street from the Flipper on Soi 8. Have been to Pattaya several times. If any one wants to catch a drink PM me. I am 57 year old American. From there will be probably be heading South to Trat area and islands. Will probably be in Thailand for 1 month, then to SR in Cambodia. Have 3 months to just travel around in Thailand, Cambodia, Viet Nam.
The Restaurant "Cabbage and Comdoms" down Soi 10 about 300 meters is a great place to go.

It's in Soi 12.

Great, thanks. I have been there once and forgotten about it. Could be ideal. May start the evening off by watching sunset from the Vertigo bar.
Just found this web-site which may be of interest to others (but don't know how up-to-date it is):

First timer going to Thailand Pattaya. In January 2008 or Feb. I joined this site to get some info (very helpful) wondering if anyone from this board is thinking about going down there during those times? It would be nice to have a travelling buddy. Someone to hang out with and someone who knows there way around! P. M. Maybe we can set something up together.
Thanks!

Thanks! Was trying to PM you back but must have your PM turned off. Since alreay had this written will just post. Was doing a little research for my own trip and saw your request. The best place I have found is...
Sunshine Hotel & Residences
217/1, Soi 8, Beach Road,
Pattaya City, Chonburi
It is right in the middle of all the action. It is a few buildings down from the Flipper. You can not help finding anything you want. Stay at the Residence portion. It has a balcony and not as confining as the hotel rooms. For 9 nights costing me about $38 per night including breakfast. Word of advice do not pickup girls any where you need to walk by on a regular basis. Once you have stopped at a spot and bought a girl even one drink she will DEMAND your time every time you go by. If I can provide any more help PM me.

My dear wife asked if I wanted to go skiing. Said no way (dodgy knees). But of course I'll pay for you to go and take jnr. So it is almost confirmed that she is going! She asked last night "what do you think you'll do while we're away? " Thought for a brief moment then said, "I really want to go and learn how to dive" which oddly is actually true. So after a few more questions I announce that the best place at easter would be Thailand and how about Phuket. She falls into line "you've always wanted to go there" as if its the most natural thing like going into London for a night out
So no argument no debate. She's going skiing and I'm off to Phuket. Even when I upped the stakes and said "would also like to see Bangkok again" (honeymoon 10 years ago Bangkok and Koh Samui) she agreed and said yes it would be good to use Skytrain rather than the 1hour taxi rides we had (poor hotel choice before, Royal River on Thonburi side) so looks like I can go for about 10 days at easter 08 probably March 22 +
I've properly joined the site so I can see the pics and there is a lot of planning to do
Flights straight forward. H'row to Phuket via Bangkok on way out then do a couple of days in Bangkok on way back. Thai air seems cheapest might even treat myself to business on way out. Don't matter coming back be knackered whatever
Once flights are in will do hotels. Just have to be bit careful. Not going to big chain ones (using cheap as a virtue. She doesnt know about joiner fees girl friendly etc). Presume obvious place on Phuket is Patong and yes I actually do want to do the diving course while I'm there!
Accommodation more of a prob in BKK. Why would I choose somewhere small down Sukhumvit? Might need help with choice here
Then I just have to sit back and spend 4 months planning. Have big experience in UK (from streets to £1500 a night) have done Amsterdam lots and various EE venues but I know I have to get clued up before I go LOS
Let the fun begin!
I will be in Pattaya from Nov 20th thru 26th, if anyone would like to get a drink let me know.
Stiffoak, it sounds like you played this one like a master. Nicely done.
You have several months to get all your ducks in a row.
My suggrestion would be to go back 20 or more pages in each of the threads you feel are relevant, and cut/paste into a word document all information you find interesting. Don't forget Giottos thread, which is in the Asia forum, it is a very GF hotel on Soi 33, perfect for your needs.
Then laden with all sorts of information, ask the question, and cross the days off the calendar.
Lastly, you are 100% correct, you really do need to learn to dive. First off, it is a great fun, and second, what if 10 years down the road, you are sitting on a beach in Jamaica, your trip to LOS a faded distant memory, and the wife suggests you go fo a few dives. You respond, :"honey, you know I don't dive"........ Shit hits the fan.
Have a great time.

Lot of research to do - never went down Suk before - went down to World Trade area and Patpong (yawn I know) and even oddly the snake farm at Lumphini but mostly too up market like dinner at Oriental

OK, I am reallly serious about this, it's important. Can we discuss this in the Bangkok Hotel forum?

Giotto,
Have you thought about having a separate "sanitized" web page, which only shows the type of details that we would not mind our relatives or business associates seeing, - separate from your more accurately informative website that contains all of the information that us hobbyists would find relevant for our plans.
Your comprehensive website should have a link to the sanitized page, but the sanitized page should NOT have a link to the more comprehensive one.

Hi All,
I have been reading thi forum for a while now, just a bit of reasearch. My flight arrives at 11 pm Sat 24 Nov, by the time customs, immigration, taxi, hotel check in and a shower I hopefully will be on Sukhumvit by 1 - 1.30 am Sunday morning. I was in Bangkok last Dec so I have a bit of an idea what to do but some suggestions for hot late mongering would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Here is the situation. I get into new bangkok airport at around 1.30 in the morning and fly out of old bangkok airport at 9.30 in the morning.
Really do not want to pay for a hotel for in effect a 5 hour stay. Now is there any mongering activity that I could partake in for a few hours in Bangkok at such a time?
Cheers!!

Your best bet would be the freelancers at Nana parking lot, up and down Sukumvit Rd. or going to an after hours disco. There are some ST hotels available but you can get a budget hotel and have a place to relax instead of staying up all night with noplace to go.

AndiHallo Andi,
Am from germany too and been to Thailand quite often.
Cannot PM you as I am no paying user yet. Only subscribers can use the PM function. Looking at the number of your posts I guess you are not a subscriber either so you won't get any PM from other boardies either.
When are you going to be in LOS? 4 days are a bit short, especially considering the 10+ hours flight and jetlag.
Where exactly are you from and what kind of assistance are you looking for?

Thanks for the suggestion. Was hoping I might be able to hit a soapy, get a nice massage, etc and then be on my way!!
Also I'll have luggage with me (well a rolly bag), so hitting a disco, etc without having a hotel might be a problem.
I just moved to Pattaya and I loved sihnoukville last time I was there.
Is there a border crossing I can use to go from pattaya to sihnoukville that is south of Poipet?
What is the quickest ground route from Pattaya to sihnoukville?
take a bus from Pattaya to Rayong, then Rayong to Trat (maybe 200B total).
Minibus to the border 110B.
Deal with the motodop mafia and pay maybe $2 to get into town.
PLAN ON OVERNIGHTING IN KOH KONG.
2 ways to snooky - BOAT - $20 takes 4.5 to 5 hours (SOMETIMES IT'S PRETTY ROUGH) minibus $20 leave at about 930am get in maybe 430pm (might be faster since they likely opened 2 bridges over former ferry crossings) (mini also goes to PP - just change at the junction about 1 to 1.5 hours out of snooky)
Plan on 24 hours. They drop you at the bus "terminal" (an open area in the middle of town)
also see "talesofasia.com" and look up bangkok to Sihanoukville overland

2 ways to snooky - BOAT - $20 takes 4.5 to 5 hours (SOMETIMES IT'S PRETTY ROUGH)I took the boat earlier this year. Never again!!!!! a disaster waiting to happen!! Would highly NOT recomend this!!!
minibus $20 leave at about 930am get in maybe 430pm (might be faster since they likely opened 2 bridges over former ferry crossings) (mini also goes to PP - just change at the junction about 1 to 1.5 hours out of snooky) We dealt with the aforementioned mafia, only we negotiated for a car to take us the distance. As we paid $30US for the journey, we werent happy when they tried to fill it up with the rest of the drivers family. Ended up with 3 adults in the front of the car but we let the young lad sit in the back as opposed to the glove box!! I would certainly take the land crossing over the ferry any day of the week. The scenery is spectacular and the new roads make it even quicker than Dinghy suggests. When we went in Jan, there was, I think, 3 boat crossings but one of them had huge bridge which appeared to be almost complete.
BTW, we did end up getting stitched up on the private car. Once all of the family had been dropped off on the way, the driver caught up with the minibus in front and managed to offload us for no extra charge. It had got a little scary at one point as he spoke no thai or English and we were pretty pissed off with him, but all came through in the end and we arrived safely although the minibus driver was crazier than any chinese or thai Ive ever experienced.

The trick to get to the clubs on the night you arrive is not to have check baggage and get a seat close to the exit door or sit in business class. That way the only hold up will be passport control. The problem is there, is a lot of aircraft coming in around 11 pm, so it is in the timing.
The other thing is I always get a airport limo, which cost more then a taxi, but you do not have to wait in line and they usually drive a lot faster on the expressway and pay for the expressway tolls.
Most of my trips in Bangkok, I am in my Hotel about 1 hour after wheels hit the ground and in the clubs 20 minutes later. Doing this, this way.
How long are you in town? I am also arriving in Bangkok on 24th, but at 9:20 pm. PM me
Sid - it WASN'T a suggestion - unless you get there REALLY early (and from Pattaya, you almost CAN'T) there isn't any way to avoid the RON. Nobody drives the route after noon or so
I agree, KK is essentially worthless - a few chicken ranches but nothing really worthwhile unless you have a local connection - BUT even if you leave Pattaya on the 6/7am minibus to the border (the visa run - but I think it goes to Paillin now anyway) you won't get there early enough to get out of town (and the visa run mini will drop you at the border crossing anyway) - cost was 2000B IIRC - with about 1/2 of that going for the visa (but I took the bus and gave them $25 for the visa instead of the 1000B they wanted "mai me 'tang").
Myself, I have almost decided to FLY - the cost is higher (roughly $77 with the departure tax included each way - maybe $155 R/T) but I'm getting too old for "adventure"
I wrote the June 07 "tales of asia" reports on the bridges - plus one in OCT 06 - 2 bridges were in final completion so they are likely open now (the first and last river crossings) - delete the ferry waits and the trip drops by a minimum hour or so. In May the second bridge was in pier stage (hadn't finished all the piers) and the third bridge had just started pilings (smaller distance crossings, though or so they looked. It takes them about 18 months or so to finish a bridge so I expect the full route to be open in maybe another year. I didn't make the trip in October when I went to Muangthai. I find it interesting that the most recent report on Snooky-KK talked about 200B for the ferries - the cost is 2000R for each CAR crossing (1/2 $$) - just another scam... There IS a toll to run on the road, though - I have no idea how much it is.
Once they actually FINISH the bridges, they COULD run a bus service KK-PP or KK-Snooky and make money. It might be a gravel road but it will be a GOOD gravel road and without the mudholes near the ferries to deal with it will be reliable, too. There were a few areas of "bad" road as in "unfinished" but they were working on them, too. One thing I really remember from May was that the trip from the junction to PP took almost 2 hours by itself traffic is REALLY heavy close in to PP (arrived 430PM so the net trip was damn near 7 hours total with perhaps 3 or more of that ferry waits) I should have used the GPS and waypointed all of the crossings. IF Thai traffic is "controlled chaos" Cambodian traffic just doesn't have any of the "controls".
I, too, never was too keen on the floating 737 (the ferry is about the size of a small jetliner) unless I could sit on the roof - noisy, rolling, toilets worse than a porta-potty, high cost for what you get and then ther is the cost of actually getting into town from the dock. The road will drive the ferry out of business except for the island traffic. (and good riddance)
I will be in Bangkok Evening of November 24th thru December 2
Looking for anybody who might like to meet up for a drink or 2. It is always great to hook up with people! If you are a first timer, it is always fun to show first timers around.
If you want to get together PM me!
First time to Los on jan 16th for two weeks 1st time frame 4 days in BKK then on to Pattaya on for a week if anyone is there during this time frame I would like to hook up for a chang or two let me know and I will make plans.
Later all and happy hunting.

Do you think I can monger on 2, 700 baht a day in Thailand? Here's my daily mongering budget for Pattaya.
Freelancer from beach road: 1, 000 baht LT (negotiable)
Beer (chang/leo): 300 baht (drink often in room/on beach rd. /outside 7-11)
Food (food cart mostly): 300 baht (occasional splurge at big c. LOL.)
'hotel'(a/c room): 300 baht
Taxis: 100 baht (wait & take bus to/from patts)
Fun stuff: 600 baht (cinema/golf/beach, massage, etc)
Barfines: 100 baht (bargirl 50% of time at cheap bars)
Total: 2, 700 baht
You think it's doable? Or is it too tight? Maybe I can spend less on the room and have more for beer? Help me out.

Question to my fellow mongers.
I have a month from mid May to travel and play, but with a limited budget, so I have decided that the best choices for me are either Thailand, splitting time between Bangkok and Pattaya or heading to Buenos Aires and taking an apartment for the month, I have been to Thailand more time then I can remember, and really enjoy the people and the country, and have only been to Buenos Aires on 1 occasion, had a great time there, now for my problem, that time of year is going to be middle of winter in B. A. Very cold and wet, where as it will be off season in Thailand it might rain a bit, but a least it will be hot, so can relax by pool in day time.
On a personal point I love South American women, but what will I do for a month in the rain and cold. Any opinions from others would be great. What should I do, If I do Thailand how would you split up the time, taken into consideration that I normally only spend 4-6 days in Pattaya.
I know it is early days, but has anyone got any travel plans for this time period yet.
Thank you for any advice
IPM
Well, correct, the weather will be hot in Thailand and may rain a little bit.
If you have been to Thailand many times, and to Pattaya, you should know what you like and what is important to you in terms of value for money.
So why ask the forum what you should do??????
Freelancer for 1000B - a bit high actually - many are 400 some even less and not "old" either
Beer - chacun a son gout (I don't drink that much - maybe 70/day unless I'm bar hopping)
Food - 300 - maybe - depends on what you eat (certainly not more on an adjusted basis). When I'm out "walking" in the locals area, the prices are significantly less than in the farang areas BTW but the difference between 20B and 30B isn't all that significant. If you're into Japanese try one of the Fuji restaurants (one in Big C) but I dump maybe 300B a meal there with the ++ when I go
Hotel - 300? Fan, I suppose (there are even some for less than that maybe 50 less) - I'm taking AC myself - just got too much to do fan - tired of sweating myself silly - 400 to 500 is a good number (less some places though)
Taxi - 100 / DAY? baht bus when possible (10B/trip) bus everywhere else even to the airport - for early morning departures, take the latest bus to Ekkamai and skytrain to Victory Monument and then the 551 but to the airport for 37B - otherwise cab it from Ekkamai for maybe 200B
Fun stuff - 600 - maybe - depends on what is interesting
barfines - Usually go for the street girls.
(I will tell you about a sweetie I found on a 24/7 basis for 1000B/day
"I want take care you" - demanding little thing though - that 1000 easily ballooned to 1500 - quit after 2 days - too much effort)
2700/day? well, I'm not there primarily as a mongering destination (and my days cost maybe 10X as much with the things I buy for those days I'm shopping), but 2700 is reasonable - maybe even 2000 unless one is a sex starved satyr. I will point out that the room is used for 2 purposes - a place to leave stuff and a place to bring ladies.

Cheapo,
B1000 for a BR girl is ridiculous.
B300-500 ST, B400-800 LT.
I don't understand the barfine in your budget proposal.--> Where is the BG cost? They kind of go together, y'know.
Beer is for dumbfucks - leave it alone.
Drinking in the room is for alcoholics - leave it alone.
Drinking on BR is for drunks and no budget long stayers - leave it alone.

Question to my fellow mongers.
I have a month from mid May to travel and play,
IPM
IPman
BA - Could be too cold in May and IMO very little action.
Thailand - Will be screaming hot in May, but plenty of action
You may want to consider DR, Costa Rica or The Philippines. All better May weather than Thailand but not as much action.
BA has the least action of all the places.

Hey guy's,
First let me say reading all of your reports has been great, good info for a first timer. If any one is interested in getting a drink I will be in LOS 4th thru 13th of December staying at the Dynasty Inn for 4 days and them of to Pattaya.
If interested PM me thanks and happy mongering to all.
I will be in Bangkok beginning on Dec 17 - Dec 24 and then moving on to Pattaya until Jan 9. I have my wingman from Dec 22 - Dec 31, but for the rest of my trip flying solo so far. I am looking for any fellow hobbyist who knows their way around both locales and can show me some new places. I have only been around Nana Plaza in Bangkok so anywhere else will be an eye opener. I am definitely going to tackle the massage places but would be great to have a wingman. Someone that can help me keep my Thai Girl expenses down. The past couple of years I have not been getting the opportunity for LT but I had been paying 1500 ST at bars (800 was the lowest for a Bar Girl and 500 on Soi 6) and 2500 ST at go-gos. With the baht at only 31 to the dollar, I need to learn the negotiating ropes. I am not opposed to go off the beaten path and would benefit from the knowledge of a more experienced monger. PM me if you can show me 'the way'.

http://beta.itasoftware.com Is generally better for searching. There are some pay sites I belong to for flight searcing but not know the departure city or dates.
You can also watch flyertalk for any specials or mistakes in airfare. Look under the mileage run sections and other items. Recently most folks were getting the best rate using Philippine Air out of LA over to BKK.
If Thulolado wants to PM me I'll help if I can.
I'll also be there in Jan for work and it looks like I'll have a lot of time on my hands this trip not like the past ones. So if anyone is in BKK and wants to meet up second and third week let me know.

Eddie - that's what I'm thinking is cheap these days. Where did you find that fare or have I waited too long to catch a deal? I forget when Chinese New Year's is, but that could be why all the cheaper seats are gone.
Thanks for the responses. I'll keep looking but might resign myself to trying to find a last-minute deal. Hell, I have plans next fall to head to Nepal and my usual MO is to always fly through Bangkok, so if I miss out this winter, I'll just have to be patient for my extended lay-over.

Thanks for the responses. I'll keep looking but might resign myself to trying to find a last-minute deal. Hell, I have plans next fall to head to Nepal and my usual MO is to always fly through Bangkok, so if I miss out this winter, I'll just have to be patient for my extended lay-over.Thulolado,
This fare is from San Francisco to Bkk on Cathay pacific they have 2 flight a day now and 3 flight from Lax to Hong kong , I book this fare from a travel agent in Chinatown they alway have the best fare than online. They even have seat during Chinese New year at this fare but you need to book now and buy your ticket .

Jan 6 till Jan 18 in Bangkok
Not sure where work will put me yet. My sixth trip since August, feels like home now but always going without a wingman.
Anyone want to hook up let me know, I have 12 days but it looks like work will not take up much time.

Whether I travel standby or pay full fare, the airline of choice now is Eva Air, I have found their prices to be good for SFO/TPE/BKK, and their service to be very good. The connection time in Tpe to BKK, is short! Although, I wish the waiting area in TPE, has more places to eat like in HKG. Personally my experience traveling on CP, has been bad and can't figure out how they ever got to be airline of the year?

So I left BKK after 10 days, home for T'giving w/family for a week now back in BKK trying new hotels, came w/o reservation for 1st time. Landed @ Dynasty Grande as walk in shower won me over versus MS & Dynasty Inn. Have had close calls climbing over tubs after binges. Anyway there is a shuttle to Patts Dynasty Inn that I am waiting on. Figure I'll try it for 2 nts if good stay longer, not so good cme back BKK. Have had arm twisted hard enough by the likes of Belmont that I thought I'd see what all the hoopla is about. So if any would be willing to show me the ropes, whips &/or chains for Pattaya newbie based @ Dynasty Inn pls let me know.
Thanks

Upon my arrival at the new Bangkok airport (Suvarnabhumi), I found that taxi's were not at the basement anymore, but at the same level than arrival. When you get out of the basement, you simply walk outside, then either to the far left or the far right. There are names for the exits of the main building, and taxi's are located at either exit 3 or 9.
I found there is NO public taxi sign – This is a total scandal for an airport, and I am sure that this done on purpose to favor the limousine services, as you can contract an airport limousine at the luggage area (I even saw a stunning girl in micro-skirt brandishing a sign advertising them). Once out, you will be totally pestered by a crowd of very persistent touts until you reach the taxi stand. The airport authorities should really understand that this behavior has no place anymore when you pretend to be a first class airport of a first class tourist location, Meter cost to city center = Thb 250 + tip + expressway.

Just like the title says, I will be in BKK from Dec 26 to the 29th, then Pattaya until the 3rd, and BKK again for the last 6 days. Huge trip, never been to LOS before, spent time in Asia elsewhere, as well as Germany (gotta love those FKK's).
Well read on the forums, so I don't need a tour guide, just want to know if anyone wants to meet up for some booze and local color.
Take it easy!
No need for a passport and it's very quick. Plus the rate is good.
I arrived at the airport, went through Immigration/Passport Control and went downstairs to Luggage. While I waited I saw several Money Changer desks. The rate was very good (unlike most airports), so I changed money while waiting for my luggage. Very efficient.
In Pattaya and Bangkok, I got the same good rates; no lines, no documents needed, no fees - very easy.
Rates were about B33.6 per $1 for $50 and $100 bills, about B33.1 for $20's. They prefer the big bills (and the bills should be clean-no tears or marks).
What I can't understand is that www.oanda.com lists the Baht at B30.6/$1. Usually, Onada quotes the real exchange rate, and I end up getting a percent or two less. This time I'm doing a lot better. Anybody know why ??
Bottom line, bring $50 and $100 bills, change at will, starting at the airport. Might want to get some small bills at that time.
Its possible to get from BKK, into the downtown area way cheap (approx 40-50 bhts, just go down to gate 8 in arrivals, and get the airport shuttle bus free, to the public transportation centre, takes about 15 mins, this is where all local buses depart from, get bus no 552(which is a 24 hour service)it routes past the, On nut skytrain station)which connects to both the other skytrain line, and also the metro, or the bus carries on and routes along the Sukhumvit road, where most of the hotels are, I think the bus fare was 20bht and the skytrain to say Soi cowboy or Nana, was about 30 bhts, absolute bargain, but if you are as tight as a ducks arse like me, it maybe of interest, it takes about an hour,
Posted for info, as an alternative way from taxis and the hotel buses, but after a long flight this option would not appeal to everyone.
All the best Viscount.

Is there a better place (less expensive) other than your hotel to catch a cab
from Nana to Pattaya or it doesnt matter? What is the going rate for Bus or cab?
Thanks
Nana to Pattaya - you have 2 choices - take a cab (about 1000B or so) or get on the skytrain headed to "ON NUT" direction and get off at EKKAMAI (the southern bus station is right there). Busses run 5am to 11pm.
The EKKAMAI bus station is right there at the bottom of the stairs a nbit back from the street (but depending, you might go down the "wrong" exit and it will be on the other side of Sukumwit - then you will need to go back up and over and down the other side) bus fare is about 110B to Pattaya - make sure you GO INTO THE TERMINAL AND GET A TICKET FOR THE BLUE/WHITE BUS WITHOUT THE ORANGE STRIPE!! The orange stripe bus will take 4 hours and stop at every wide spot in the road!! The blue/white is express ("cherdchai tours" I seem to remember) Ticket station is right inside the terminal on the right side near the front of the station - busses are right out back - pattaya busses are the first stall on the right side
Time from departure to arrival at the bus station on North Pattaya road is about 2 maybe 2.5 hours. Then walk out to the road and catch a song-tao (baht bus - other side of the street - no crossing protection so watch it when crossing) down to beach road for 10B, then another 10B to walking street vicinity (or where ever you are going)

I'll be staying in Pattaya solo next Thursday and Friday nights (for the first time). Meeting up for beers and taking advantage of your local knowledge of the scene would be great if you're up for it. Let me know. And others too!

Cheapo,
B1000 for a BR girl is ridiculous.
After this report I am a little unsure of the definition of a barfine. From my readings this is how I see it, tell me if I am wrong. The barfine come into play only when you are taking a girl out of a go-go bar and this has nothing to do with what you will give the girl? An example would be if you walked into a bar on Soi 6 and negociated with a girl for LT B1000, then before you both left you would have to pay the mama B300. The final total cost to you would be B1300 for LT. Is this true, are those numbers about right? It would seem right away that the FL would always be cheaper, what is the drawback?
What is the definition of LT, how many hours, how many pops? What is the defintion of ST?
About how far is it from Soi 6 to the Walking Street?
I noticed from Bairdo's Pattaya Bar Hopping guide that there are 40 bars on Soi 2, I haven't read anything about this Soi, only Soi 6, is Soi 2 even bigger than Soi 6?
Thanks guys, I know these are a lot of questions, but I am just so excited to be going to Thailand for my first time I can't help wanting to know as much as possible so that no time is waisted.
Tom,
It is great to have your first trip but realize like anything else there is a learning curve. I first visited Thailand in the 80's and I am still learning. There is a lot of advice here about short time, long time and pops along with varied opinions on prices et al. Of course, there is some bullshit. Go figure. But overall, you can gleam enough information from here to make your trip successful. My advice is to take a deep breath and hold on. It is quite the ride.
I will be there in mid January if you care to hook up for a beer or three.
Good luck

1. Yes,
2. LT, All depends when you take her out, Usually 2 pop, ST, usually 2 hours
and 1 pop.
3. Not good with distant, I have walked it several times from Soi 6, but I think
1 to 11/2 Miles. Can walk down to Soi 6, to Beach Rd, catch Taxi for 10
baht. Get off at the curve.
4. Don't believe it is wider than Soi 6, but bars are hard to count since many
are connected and very small. Maybe 20-30?

You can make arrangements with the ladies at the travel desk inside Nana Hotel, They have different prices/times but the bus I used some time ago was about 400B, nice clean bus with good AC and not too crowded. A Mini Van will take you from the hotel to the Bus Terminal.
You can also take the Sky Train to Ekkamai station then take the bus to Pattaya which is about 113B. Be sure to take the Express Bus and not the one that stops every five minutes to pick up passengers or a two hour trip could easily turn into three and a half hours or more. Cabs are about 1000B but you can negotiate.
I will be in Bangkok in late February and would like to get together with other members of the board. Let me know if you will be around and we can make plans to get together and see some wonderful sights. Also, does anyone know of a good websight to meet Bangkok girls and talk to them before a trip to LOS?
Thanks

LBMLBM,
For LT is it 2 pops and she is out of there? I read of guys getting there 1 pop in, falling asleep and waking up in the morning for there next pop, is that typically if you pick her up at about 1am? Would it be likely that if you picked her up about 10pm or before, that she would be trying to get the 2 pops in and get back to the club/street?
Thanks,
Tom

Tom1055,
Getting your 2 pops in is really up to you! It's really up to your little brain. Like most when it talks you must respond. But Yes, many have mention 1 in the beginning and usually one in the morning. Depending on the relationship you strike up with the girl ( within the short time span ) if it is good there is no counting. Many have had 2 pops for ST! But there are also stories or arrangements made for LT, and after the 1st pop, the cell phone rings or they don't feel good, etc... and want to leave and hope you will still pay the LT rate. Don't! revert back to ST rate!
Everyone pays their dues but there are many rewards also!

Well been lurking here for a few months when I started planning my trip to Thailand. Now that I am squared away and booked time to find a few expats to have a few drinks with while out playing with the ladies. So if any fellow contractors from A-stan or Iraq will be in town during that time feel free to let me know and we can have a few brews.
Pussy,
As long as your clothes are CLEAN and free of yukkie SMELL, you should be ok. You want to button up your shirt, tho. Knee length shorts are ok, but they have to be nice, not the flimsy, Hawaii colored kind.
Come to Thailand and enjoy!

Juan, if you are clean, and have cash, you will not have the slightest problem attracting cute ladies in Thailand. I am 5'8 and weigh 280 lbs, and I have no problem scoring the cute ladies. They may make jokes and rub my belly, asking if I am going to have a baby, but then they have no qualms about sucking my dick, letting me lick their pussy, and then fucking me absolutely silly.

I'm a fat man, I make no bones about it. I'm hitting the gym to improve my life as a whole, ....I know it's a sweltering tropical climate, so my intention is to travel light. Shorts, t-shirts, etc.
A lot of us are the same shape, if you just don't dress in a Singha Beer Tank Top or whatever and flip flops you should be fine. I think the girls care more if you wash and brush your teeth more then anything else. If you are going to be in the climate for a while invest in a warm weather pair of pants and shirts at a tailor shop. A nice pair of warm weather slacks and some shirts can go a long way and do travel light.
And as long as you have Baht-N-Ality you won't have any prob's.

Hey guys,
I will be going to Thailand for the very first time in early 2008.
I've been into the "hobby" for over a decade! But again, this will be my first venture into the great East LOL
I was wondering if any ISG members could give me a liitle bit of direction. I know this is a pretty general post I am posting, but I was wondering if you guys can give me some sureshot recommendations. There are simply waaaay too many posts for me to go through in this forum. I don't even know where to start. I want to take tons of pix with beautiful ladies and share them with you also.
Which brings me to another issue: cameras/security, etc.
Is it wise to keep "naughty" photos on your camera? Will airport security (or any kind of authority) go thru someone's camera?

You are going to get lots of RTFF advice. Realistically you do need to read a bit to even know where to start. Basically there are lots and lots of options in BKK, but in order for anyone to help you we would need to know more about your circumstances.
1) What kind of budget are you on?
2) Are you a 5 star hotel guy or a 1 star at the lowest price? In Bangkok you can find hotels in all the ranges.
3) What kind of experience do you want? Are you looking to hit the go-go bars, the massage parlors, the discos, the freelancers, etc.?
4) Do you want to stay in Bkk or go to Pattaya or one of the islands?
5) How long are you going to be there?
I could go on and on. Hard to know what you want without some answers and truly, all the answers are right in front of you in the forum
I suggest you read through the forum and figure out a basic idea of what you are going to do and then start asking some specific questions.
As for the pictures on the camera, that also depends on who you are and where you return to where ever you return. I have never had a problem going back to the US, but then I am always on a business trip. If you fit the profile of a sex tourist, you might run into problems in some places. Once again, just do a search and you can find out how others have fared where you might be going back to.

5) How long are you going to be there?Budget is not a big issue for me, but I certainly do not wanna get ripped off! LOL. I'm going for about 6 weeks! I will go to Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket, Koh Samui, etc. I wanna be as efficient as possible, and wanna make each day count. I'd rather go there with a laundry-list of places and bars to visit rather than do the hit & miss thing.
I'm more like a 3-4 star hotel type of guy. But what is more important is the fact that I wanna bring girls back to my hotel, so the hotel would need to be accomodating to allowing me to bring back girls!
In terms of the "experience I am looking for", I want to be with the younger, fitter girls. I want to hit the go-go bars and would like to also visit some freelancers. I would be intersted in incalls and outcalls. I don't know much about massage parlors, but I certainly am not looking for a massage. I'm looking for hardcore experiences, threesomes, foursomes, etc. Girls dressed in lingerie, high heels, stockings, uniforms, etc. I'm assuming the go-go bars and freelancers are the way to go, no?
Any recommendations on which go-go bars are the sure shots, as well as which incalls/outcalls in Bangkok (BKK? ), Pattaya, Phuket, Koh Samui.
Are there websites to these incalls/outcalls?
What are your opinions on Livingstones Sports Bar, and Secrets Bar???
Also, have you heard of Khmer Natyaba:

Which brings me to another issue: cameras/security, etc.
Is it wise to keep "naughty" photos on your camera? Will airport security (or any kind of authority) go thru someone's camera?
In the spirit of Christmas, a non-typical non RTFF reply ;)
Start with Report of Distinction's very very first post by Phuqar - his 5 day diary is still a classic. Then literally work your way up the same thread - subject topics fairly self-explanatory.
I personally never keep anything on my camera or memory cards - I download and then upload to a remote server. But I've also never been searched at customs...maybe because I travel with only w/ computer bag, carry on, and dress like I'm on business. If your only stop is LOS, and you dress like a slob, expect to be searched; others have reported being searched, including a their computer.

Pay a visit to Giotto's Lodge thread.....guys there are 'usually' more helpful...LOL.
If you have additional questions, post them on the appropriate thread.

I'll be in BKk and Cambodia in Feb...
Feb. 9th - 12:00 P.M. -arrive (staying Sukhumvit)
Feb. 11-13th - Siem Reap
Feb. 13-15th (afternoon to afternoon) - Phnom Penh
Feb. 15th (late afternoon until afternoon on the 18th) - BKK -Sukhumvit
If anyone is around these areas at this time, let's have beer.
PM me.
Upon my arrival at the new Bangkok airport (Suvarnabhumi), I found that taxi's were not at the basement anymore, but at the same level than arrival. When you get out of the basement, you simply walk outside, then either to the far left or the far right. There are names for the exits of the main building, and taxi's are located at either exit 3 or 9.
...
Hi - can anyone confirm the current taxi situation at Suvarnabhumi arrival? When I went to Bkk earlier this year, they still had the rather convenient coupon system downstairs. Has it now been replaced by this (non-)system?
Thanks & a Happy New Mongering Year to all of you!

Yin Yang,
When I was at the airport in late November and trying to escape to BKK, for the night to monger I went down to the lowest level and noticed that the taxi stands were now gone. I went back up to the midlevel and noticed a taxi stand with a table and a few taxi lined up. Same process, indicate where you want to go and they give you a slip for 50 baht, and the next taxi up takes your bags. But indicated on recent post that you can catch taxi's on the same level you come out of immigration!
Good luck, LBM
LBM,
that's correct - I came to Bkk today and the taxis are now located at the arrivals level but same procedure as before (only the number of touts inside the hall seems to have increased). There are also signs indicating "public taxis". The driver suggested 400 Baht for the trip to Sukhumvit, which isn't too bad, but I let him use the meter (190 fare + 65 toll + 50 service charge + tip) ...
