Going to a residence / AirBnB is simply a lot more dangerous than going to a motel. Motels are geared to this and, believe it or not, do have a form of "security. " They all have several male employees who might help in an emergency. But, most importantly, the motels have your ID or your car license, as well as semi-restricted ingress / egress. It's pretty rare these days to read about a dead hooker in a love motel.

I usually do Airbnb when I travel. I go to Tijuana often. I have only ones gotten an Airbnb there. It was not a good experience. I don't recommend it. For all of its advantages, Tijuana is just not a safe city. You're fine walking down revolution and such. But I felt so exposed going into a gated and nice private residence. It's funny I worry so much about what Hotel staff and Security think about me, and then when they are not there, I realize they are a buffer between me and the outside. Any other city but Tijuana is no problem. But Tijuana just has such a sketchy vibe to it, even in aviacióand and cacho and the other nicer areas.

If you just want to experience Zona Norte it is essentially 3 main clubs and a few outliers. HK, Tropical, and Chicago. Adelitas is closed for now. First timer just need to cross the border, catch the HK shuttle and it drops you off at HK door. Experience ZN and then get back in the HK shuttle to the border. It doesn't get any easier than this in ZN. I see you've been to Indonesia, Thailand, Germany, etc. I'm sure it is more logistically challenging to get to each of those destinations. Tijuana is not as dangerous as the news makes it seem. I've yet to experience Colombia, but from the news and YT videos it might be a miss for me due to all the scopolamine druggings. The only thing you might experience are chicas groping you and asking for money which is essentially the game anywhere in the world.
