I paid $99 per night for an executive level room with a good buffet breakfast. Deep with a swim up bar, a internet room free for executive level members, a sport bar and a penthouse piano bar with live music some nights. They also have a restaurant with a nice nightime buffet, I paid $23 plus taxes for two grilled steaks, grilled chicken breast and a center cut pork chop plus salad, potatoes, desserts, bread, etc. Plus an included drink (wine, beer, etc.) and water. They also have fish in the buffet, all meats are fresh, you choose the cuts you want and they grill it in the moment. There is a Pizzarelli and a large Bravo Supermarket in front of the hotel. Besides that you have to move outside the area which is mostly an upscale residential area. I believe the hotel is non guest friendly because sometimes they (security) were with a list of guests near the elevator area. You can invite guests to the pool paying I believe 200 pesos for pool passes. They have life guard on duty.

I visited two car washes during my stay, the first one was Los Taxistas located in los Peralejos near Republica de Colombia Ave, not far away from Carrefour on Autopista Duarte. Nice place with live perico ripiao music, large Presidente for 100 pesos. The other one I liked more was D'Home Run car wash in Monoguayabo area, also 100 pesos beer. I shared a liter or Barcelo with Franchesca for 900 pesos including 3 20oz. Bottles of soda and juice, enough to prepare a dozen of 12oz. Drinks. No tourists, locals only, one third of the girls were alone so definitely are good places to meet local chicas, a lot of pretty girls there. Both places have good security and looked pretty safe to me. Car washes have a car washing area but the largest area is the dancing terrace area, carwashes looks similar to La Parada in malecon area, open terraces with lot of chairs and tables with loud electronic or live music. I learned a lot about social dominican culture during this trip, the good and not so good things.

Is that correct according to your observations and if so, what might be the rationale behind?I believe it is a patriarchal society, but for a lot of reasons women are in charge of family groups where a dominant / respected / older male is absent. There born more males than females in the DR but male fatalities caused by diseases, accidents, crime is by far higher than in females leaving a decent percent of families under the guidance of a female member. Lots of men also do not accept responsability for their relatives so the percentage of female heads of house is high.

Culturally the grandpa / grandma figures are venerated in latin countries were it is common for a grandfather to have dozen or even hundreds of descendants plus other people that for diferent circunstances are also part of the family.

I received something I call "the best chair treatment", the family gave me the best seating of the house, the best location, higher confort than anyone there. I was escorted to a colmadon by a 17 yr old girl who was looking to me as if I was a celebrity and a couple of kids that were asking me any imaginable question. I agree with the fact that the DR (especially Sosua / Puerto Plata) is getting more dangerous than in previous years. I have been coming to the DR for 12 years now and have been living here since retiring 3 years ago. I have always been a person very aware of my surroundings and what is going on. I have always felt relatively safe here in the DR. I am not a paranoid kind of person, but in the last year I have observed more and more corrupt police actions. I am currently making plans to permanently leave the Dominican Republic and live in another part of the world. I used to love the DR and still do in some ways but the level of in-your-face corruption has reached a degree that for me is no longer tolerable. I have actually started to feel unsafe here after all these years. Additionally, the cost of living in the DR (rent, food, transportation, cable, internet, massage, etc, etc.) are so much higher than other wonderful parts of the planet that it no longer makes sense for me to stay here. I realize that coming to the DR for a vacation is convenient and fairly easy for many guys, hence its popularity. I still have a lot of fun here, but I have more fun in a much more relaxed atmosphere other places on the planet. I have been traveling the planet for 45 years now and am no novice when it comes to knowledge of the world. More specifically, it is just my personal opinion that Puerto Plata and Sosua are dying communities in terms of tourism anyway. There are many fewer people coming to these towns than in the past which is definitily affecting the economy of the area. Many Dominicans that had jobs previously are now jobless. There is more desperation for many Dominicans now than in past times. The unwarranted and random arrest and jailing of many girls in Sosua by the Politur (Tourist Police. An oxymoron) has resulted in many girls that would normally come here to entertain us guys are now staying away out of fear of the Politur and jail. This has resulted in a noticeable decline in the overall numbers and quality of girls available in Sosua. Yes, there is for sure still fun to be had and there are still girls in Sosua, but it is NOT what it used to be. There are numerous behind-the-scenes reasons for this which I won't go into here. Suffice it to say. The DR is one of the most corrupt countries on the planet, more dangerous than in times past, rampant inflation, and for me much less desireable than it used to be. It's still a beautiful country with a lot to offer, but presently there are better places. Things are constantly changing everywhere and perhaps one day the DR will once again be more desireable than it is now.

I agree with the fact that the DR (especially Sosua / Puerto Plata) is getting more dangerous than in previous years. I have been coming to the DR for 12 years now and have been living here since retiring 3 years ago. I have always been a person very aware of my surroundings and what is going on. I have always felt relatively safe here in the DR. I am not a paranoid kind of person, but in the last year I have observed more and more corrupt police actions. I am currently making plans to permanently leave the Dominican Republic and live in another part of the world. I used to love the DR and still do in some ways but the level of in-your-face corruption has reached a degree that for me is no longer tolerable. I have actually started to feel unsafe here after all these years. Additionally, the cost of living in the DR (rent, food, transportation, cable, internet, massage, etc, etc.) are so much higher than other wonderful parts of the planet that it no longer makes sense for me to stay here. I realize that coming to the DR for a vacation is convenient and fairly easy for many guys, hence its popularity. I still have a lot of fun here, but I have more fun in a much more relaxed atmosphere other places on the planet. I have been traveling the planet for 45 years now and am no novice when it comes to knowledge of the world. More specifically, it is just my personal opinion that Puerto Plata and Sosua are dying communities in terms of tourism anyway. There are many fewer people coming to these towns than in the past which is definitely affecting the economy of the area. Many Dominicans that had jobs previously are now jobless. There is more desperation for many Dominicans now than in past times. The unwarranted and random arrest and jailing of many girls in Sosua by the Politur (Tourist Police. An oxymoron) has resulted in many girls that would normally come here to entertain us guys are now staying away out of fear of the Politur and jail. This has resulted in a noticeable decline in the overall numbers and quality of girls available in Sosua. Yes, there is for sure still fun to be had and there are still girls in Sosua, but it is NOT what it used to be. There are numerous behind-the-scenes reasons for this which I won't go into here. Suffice it to say. The DR is one of the most corrupt countries on the planet, more dangerous than in times past, rampant inflation, and for me much less desirable than it used to be. El Flow had two tables full, Latinos empty, Seacrets closed, Lous shark closed, Merengue empty, Winners circle empty and rumba 30% full, and it was 8; 30pm. Decided to stock the fridge with water and Beer since I had a lull.

There are still girls in Sosua, but the regulars are looking old. There are also a couple fresh faces. My regulars are asking why I don't call and come see them when I'm in Sosua, but its obvious that they have no future goals besides tricking in Sosua. (Reuters) Fear and anger are growing among women with breast implants in Latin America, a key market for the bankrupt French firm that used industrial silicone to make cheap prostheses linked to health risks.

The implants at the center of the scandal were made by the now defunct Poly Implant Prothese (PIP) and appear to have an unusually high rupture rate, prompting French authorities to urge women to have them removed.

Some 300, 000 PIP implants, used in cosmetic surgery to enhance breast size or replace lost breast tissue, were sold worldwide, tens of thousands of them in Latin America where demand for cosmetic procedures is high.

Colombian television presenter Alexandra Correa is desperate to know if her 10-year old implants are safe or not. She has been seeking an answer from her surgeon for the past few weeks but he hasn't returned her calls. Now he's on holiday.

"I'm so worried," said Correa. 32, who paid about $2,200 for her breast enlargements."I can't leave my health to chance. Vanity comes at a price, but life is worth much more.

"It's preferable for women to have breasts the size of mosquito bites than larger ones ridden with cancer," she told Reuters on Monday.

In neighboring Venezuela, where implants are so popular they are sometimes even given to girls by their parents as a 15th birthday gift or as prizes in fund-raising raffles, there were frissons of anxiety among the many thousands of surgically enhanced women.

"I've had this prosthesis for nearly 10 years now, since my third child, and until now I'd always felt really good about it. It makes me feel young again, a woman not just a mother," said Martha. 47, a teacher who like many Venezuelans was relaxing at the beach with her family over Christmas.

"But since I've been reading all these stories about the French prostheses bursting and giving you cancer, I must admit it's awakened some fears. I've no idea what make mine are, but I'll be checking with my doctor as soon as I'm back in Caracas after the holiday."

Bob just posted a great report in the Sosua forum from a veterans perspective that made me think. He kicked real shit about keeping this game in perspective and understanding that its basically your temporary fantasy and nothing more, so enjoy it. When I started I was hooked on everything related to the DR, especially the women. But we are the game but we don't realize it until we have run the full race and wind up last.

As much as we try to be accepted we are just an opportunity. As much as we believe the fantasy it will end. As much as we think we have found paradise it can quickly turn into hell at any given minute. But its part of us learning with the experience. You have to fall hard and hope that maybe this"is it", before we see that its just a temporary fantasy. Dominicans have their game and they run it well, please understand this. You will never be accepted as a Dominican, but you may not understand this until your money runs out. You will never out rank a Dominican dude for their affection because they are programed to respect them first.

Sure hardcore guys will bypass the bullshit but they will have missed out on the learning experience. Its easy to go thru life being hardcore and cold but they miss out on the temporary fantasy that helps us grow. The hardcore role sometimes brings hardcore results without the good moments.

My point is that we have to experience and grow, but understand these are temporary fantasies we experience in the DR. When you board that plane to depart just understand that it was just a fun time, nothing more, but appreciate the experience and wake up.

Dominican Republic in the Western Hemisphere's worst country in road safety, as evidenced by its 34. 60% mortality rate for each 100, 000 inhabitants in traffic accidents.

The data are in a recent study on Road Fatality in the Western Hemisphere, by the Dignity Network Foundation (FundaReD) , which analyzed the deaths risks in thoroughfares of its 28 countries.

What is Bob teaching us? How to insult the entire Dominican population because he had a bad experience with some Dominicans. Bob posted something about 100s of people were victims of some fraud at some AI, (were is the proof?) or was Bob just going off to make himself feel better and then he says ALL Dominicans never take fault for anything (as though he has seen and witnessed every Dominican who has ever walked this earth). Various guys on this site get their rocks off insulting the DR and insulting Dominicans. I have been pissed and said negative things about the DR, but I move on or I adjust my game in the DR to avoid any aggravation. Also some guys who only stay in a certain part of the DR and who only interact with a certain class of Dominican, extrapolate from that, that all Dominicans are the same. Some guys never leave puerto plata and somehow believe they know how 95% of Dominicans think and behave.

The highways I have driven on in the DR have been in very good shape (I have driven to many different areas in the DR). In the DR I can rent a car and drive around the entire country. I don't think that is possible in Colombia. In Colombia you could get kidnapped by the FARC, if you drive through certain areas. I would not go on the Colombia board and write negative posts. I have known many Colombianas, they just don't do it for me, as such I have no great desire to visit Colombia. I won't waste my time or other people's time, posting negative posts about Colombia on the Colombia board. Don Cornelius, television personality and the creator of 'Soul Train' was found dead in his home in Sherman Oaks, California Wednesday morning, according to a report from the Los Angeles Times. He was 75.

According to the Times, law enforcement sources arrived at the home of Cornelius, shortly after 4 a.m. Sources told the Times that Cornelius died of a gunshot wound to the head, which appeared to be self-inflicted. There were no signs of foul play.

TMZ reports that Cornelius' body was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

A past trip report from Viper10 in 2005. He talks about Sosua going down hill then. But we know it continued to blossom. Maybe this lull in Sosua now will be short lived. Just wanted everyone to see how it was back then. Just came back!

2005:

I was able to catch the direct flight from New York to POP, landing around 2pm. I had previously talked with John over at Sosua Palace by email for reservations. Since it was off season, John was not in town and the Palace was occupied by 2 other guys.

The Palace had about 4 girls working at a time, and each day there would be new ones. There was probably a total of 10 different girls in the 3 days that I was there. Only 2 I would even consider to hook up with. I did have both, one being the bartender and one other that was laying by the pool. Both gave excellent performance, both ending in CIM. They both would rate a 6, with one having a better body and the other one have a prettier face. Both, as in all of Sosua, did BBBJ, and one licked whatever and whereever you wanted. Both charged the industry standard at the Palace of 1500 pesos. Exchange rate was around 28. 5 when I went.

The going rate was 800 or 900 pesos. There they only advertise BBBJ and that is all you're going to get. Girls rated from 5-6. 5's, with the bartender being the best looking. If you're goin to the beach, DON'T go the to the beach that is in town. Take the taxi to Cornada (I think) which is about 30 minutes away. It is a much better beach.

In all I had a good time in Sosua. The only drawback was the Palace not having their normal vibrant scene (from what I've read). One advantage is definitely the direct flights, but for me the San Nicholas scene in Aruba is much better (see my previous post).

A mile from Metro the car shuts down and the driver gets out and grabs a coolant jug from the trunk. Its now 12; 15 and he looks fucked. Fuck this I grab my two bags and start walking. The place I stayed in in SD is $60, and that is cheap for there, while the place I stay in in Sosua is $45 (Europa. Used to stay at the $60 Sosua Bay). Of course I could stay in Boca Chica for $40 and drive to the capital when I wanted to go there.

All the rooms are ocean front. They have live music nightly on the terrace. The terrace bar is open late. In room electric safes. And a few pros work there. Sabor pulled a nice light skinned MILF for 3000p. The breakfast which is included is average. And the price I got was 82usd including taxes and breakfast. Its worth it to me to have one side of my room open to a beautiful ocean view instead of an alley or traffic noise.

Transportation is good to have but I love walking around.

But don't forget liquor. Sky High, Girls House, and 305 all charge 300p for a Cuba Libre. That shit can add up. Sabor and I realized that we can sit on Mystiks front terrace and bring our own bottle. Hey Nixonbd. I was in Santo Domingo two weeks ago. Go back a couple pages to review my posts about the hotels. Thanks for visiting the Gogo forum. I would suggest Hostal Mystik for that price 50-75$.Can't find your comments. It gets good ratings, any pictures of the hotel that you're aware? Is the Melia casino hotel girl-friendly?

Is the Melia casino hotel girl-friendly?I like the Riazor, girl friendly and cheap with Manolo's a 24 hour restaurant next door. Both the Jaragua and Melia are NOT girl friendly unless you check them in with you. I bribed a guard to get a girl in the Jaragua once but tried another time and the guard got pissed that I even tried to give him money, first time and only time I've had a guard refuse a "propina".

No in room WiFi, balcony door didn't lock, and my laptop had to be stored at the desk. I didn't want my laptop sitting around the room. Room was nice, service was good, and free breakfast at Monolos.

Room was nice, service was good, and free breakfast at Monolos.Breakfast at Manolos sucks, and very expensive. Last time I was in the Capitale, Riazor was full, so I stayed at another hotel. Was charged over 300 pesos for a pair of eggs, coffee, and dry white toast. What a f-in rip off. An egg here in the Road costs 5 pesos at a colmado. Go figure. I guess if you get a free breakfast at Manolos, the walk-in customers pay the bill.
