One thing about Thailand is that they are definitely good at surviving. Nobody goes hungry around this place. Thriving is another issue. You must me talking about your own generation or mine. Because pretty much those under 40 are lost and their parents did not raise them right. I left the (Dis) United States of America over ten year ago because I did not like the direction I saw it going. Today generation expects to be served. You are absolutely correct. When I enter Thailand the stamp they give me in my passport says VISA and it contains the date of entry and the date my VISA expires. You can also apply for a Tourist Visa which is good for 90 days before you enter the country. You are able to do that online.When you arrive Visa Exempt, this is what they stamp in your passport: your entry date and your departure date. Nowhere does it say Visa.

A visa has to be applied for either before entering the country or when you arrive. When you arrive Visa Exempt you don't apply for a visa, you just get your entry stamp. Further discussion is pointless. Believe whatever you want to believe.

I'll summarize my post by just saying that Pattaya wasn't really my cup of tea. For others it will be though so to each their own. I'll explain why and maybe my circumstances will resonate with some. Had 6 days in BKK and so decided to spend 2 of them down in Pattaya. First of:

Logistics: travelling from BKK to Pattaya was a breeze. Catch the BTS to the Ekkamai stop and the Ekkamai Bus station is right there. Loads of bus choices to get down to pattaya but I went with the larger blue coach (roong reangg or something like that) and the ticket was 131 baht. The sign at the window tells you what time bus you're buying your ticket for along with your seat number. Trip about 2 hours and took a grab from the north pattaya bus terminal to my hotel.

Hotel: Discovery beach hotel. Not sure why this isn't mentioned more. It's right next to Soi 6 and is nice enough with spacious, clean rooms. Closeness to soi 6 means that it's not close to walking street but just use the baht bus.

Getting around: baht bus for 10 baht on beach road to get you to walking street from soi 6 and also down to the soapies honey 2 and sabai Dee. The baht bus are those Ute type cars with a covered seating area in the back. The drivers will typically honk but you can also just raise your arm when you see one. They'll stop for you. Hop on the back and ride it. There's little buzzers in the back that you push when you want to get off and then you just walk up to the window and pay the 10 baht.

Walking street: If I would not have come from BKK before this I would probably be happy with walking street pattaya but the number of girls in the relatively small footprint of nana plaza BKK along with the quantity of young slim girls meant that I was ultimately disappointed with the gogos here.
