Bubba Boy's guide is of timeless value to Rio mongering because all the dynamics of meeting the girl in the terma are still true. Just last night with a new ISG member, I was trying to translate for him at Perola Negra. He could have used some of the points in Bubba Boy's guide.

Use wealth as an argument is a little silly. Luxury is a handicap when you can't really afford it. I can live on 60 are $ a day in Sao Paulo and enjoy it. That gave me the freedom of choices to do what I want to do today, not tomorrow or in the future, and I can say no to the things that I don't want to do. I have freedom to do things on my terms. I can also hang with most people when I choose to regardless cost.
It's actually worse than that. He's said that nobody should be posting if the information is more than 6 months from having had boots on the ground. I, was not "dismissing", The Bwana Dik guide (aka.The Bubba Boy Guide), as I know it is still useful and has value to some BMs and yet not so much for others. Nevertheless, it remains "one of many sources of information" and it's relevance or value, is accessed according to each individual's mongering travel goals, needs and priorities.
But the sad fact is, the The Bwana Dik guide (aka.The Bubba Boy Guide), barely registers on most mongerer's radar as a "go-to-source", when mongering in Brazil, these days.

... Annoying or not, he brings a lot of useful info and valuable datapoints for those 99% of us who travel occasionally and can't just move to Brazil. Agreed! VB1's intel on several things, have been very beneficial for me personally and on occasion, I have found his POVs to be of interest. Cane, while I agree with your sentiment, the use of "proxy war" (albeit probably just a "turn of phrase"), sounded a bit too nuclear (...kkk), but I get your drift. "Dust-up" works for me.
My intent here, isn't to malign or disparage anyone. It is to simply clear up any misconceptions and provide "context" and "clarity", w/r to The Bwana Dik guide (aka.The Bubba Boy Guide), and to give BMs an opportunity to present their POVs and air their differences.
Hopefully this round of discussions and dialogue has done just that.

I told you who the senior member who quit is by name, and you did your own research and found indeed that the man has not posted here in ages, and you can't even find his handle here anymore (it seems his old posts now just appear as "member" with a number following). You know my intel is solid Spidy, and you ought to acknowledge that versus beating around the bushes. I have also conveyed who it is to WyattEarp, another monger here whom I trust. I was going to fill Xpartan in and let him know as well, but his mailbox was full. And as I told you both (Spidy and WyattEarp), I don't mention who it is here publicly because the guy told me he was afraid that if VB1 found out about how he felt about him (and about some other things this unknown monger was involved in), that VB1 would try to "doxx" him. The "unknown monger" conveyed to me that he had seen VB1 do that to at least one other person.

As for criticizing other members economics, I will say this.
The daily volatility in your brokerage account, is probably far less than even the most generous monger at the most expensive venue. There are certainly days where it would have been better if I had simply gone to 4 x4 or Solarium and paid full price instead of placing a trade.
But the reason I discuss economics is that I am by virtue of Sperto's posts and Bubba Boy's Guide a frugal monger, and I have seen that one gets better sex if one speaks the local language a little, and sympathizes economically, to the extent of getting the same pricing as the locals. Bwana Dik is the ORIGINAL author, behind the very first guide, aka. "Bwana Dik Guide to Rio/Brazil". I can't remember if he produced further updates, but at some point Bubba Boy took over and updated the guide.
In the early releases Bubba Boy, gives full credit to Bwana Dik, as the originator and original source of his "Bubba Boy Guide". I haven't read whatever the latest version was, as he my still have given credit to Bwana Dik.
Now you know the story! Thanks to, The Cane (several months ago) for reminding me of this VERY IMPORTANT detail.

Some members travel and share information. Other members stopped travelling and limit their posts of sharing their wisdom on how to monger as a highroller. To some members it might be useful information and other members prefer not even to read their posts. The funny thing is how these highrollers get sensitive and angry when other members fail to admire them. If you ignore them you burn your chances of get a membership in The Old Farts Club. But he decides to "kick-it-up-a-notch" and resort to terror tactics, when others have stepped-up to call him out. You see, said troll, forgets I remember him threatening to harm and injure another ISGer, in an email he'd sent to his bullying victim. I know this because I responded to this ISGer, the victim of his "bullying" threats, that posted a screen shot of the sent PM-email threat. But fortunately (for the troll), Admin, deleted all related posts.
So consider this a friendly, "heads-up" and a "tale of caution", to those members, that wish to align themselves with said venomous troll.

LOL, nah, not even close. The Great is just a slapstick comedy. It's hilarious at times, but there is no history there; the only "historic" things are a few names, and some of them are terribly mispronounced.
In the meantime, creators of Dom meticulously worked with Pedro's father, and from some articles I've read, he wasn't the easiest person to work with. So, no, a much higher factual level there, although clearly a few things about Pedro got embellished.
Dom is a really good drama. Tight script, great acting, and yeah, it doesn't hurt that the sex scenes are awesome, LOL.

The Fairmont is pretty good. Not a true Fairmont, however, since it was originally an Accor Hotel, but after Accor bought out Fairmont corporate re-christened the hotel a Fairmont. Not a big deal, but if you ever stayed at a real Fairmont you would quickly notice the difference. Anyway, it is pretty good and it was girl friendly when I stayed there in April. That's why I am going to stay there again in November.

Most of the time I was able to bring girls straight up to my room without any ID check or any BS. But on 2 occasions the front desk called my room and requested the girl's ID. One time they even sent an employee up to my room to take a pic of the girl's ID. He was polite and embarrassed, so I did not give him a hard time although I had my shirt off and the girl had to put something on in order to show him her ID. KKK. The other time I just told the front desk I would come down later with the ID that was the end of it. So, yeah Fairmont RJ is Girl Friendly.
I have had similar experiences at other Brazilian hotels too. Just a few nights ago I invited Valerie, my favorite Scandallo girl, over to my room at the Hilton Sao Paulo. Hotel management didn't say a word as we walked through the lobby to the elevators. The next night, however, I brought back Caroline, a former Scandallo girl, and bam, we did not make it to the elevator before I was requested to show Caroline's ID to the front desk clerk.
My conclusion from all this is that a hotel's reception may vary from night to night, but the definition of Girl Friendly is no joiner fees for girls no matter how many are brought back to the hotel at any particular time and I have never paid a joiner fee at any of the RJ or SP hotels that I have stayed at. But I always book for 2 persons when I make a hotel reservation to avoid any possible "guest" charge issues. Who needs trouble when you are about to have a good time.

There is no incentive for members to convince you to come to sao paulo or Brazil.
In fact it's better if we tell you to scram so there's less competition and more good girls available.

The excerpts did not include the book's account of the "banana massacre" of 1928, in which the Colombian army, pressed by America to take action against employees of the United Fruit Company who were on strike, killed about 75 of them. What Mundo Nuevo printed were descriptions of Colombia in the style that later became known as magic realism. The magazine, which published mainly pro-American and anti-communist articles, thus showed that it was also open to work written by adherents of the political left. One cia agent called the approach "fidelismo sin Fidel", ie, the communist creed of Fidel Castro, Cuba's ruler, without his anti-American revolutionism. García Márquez was furious to discover that Mundo Nuevo was in the pay of the cia. In a letter to its editor, Rodríguez Monegal, he wrote that he felt like a cuckold.

"All art is propaganda", wrote George Orwell in 1940, "but not all propaganda is art. " Few people would argue with the second part of that aphorism. There is nothing artistic about the dreadful ramblings of "Mein Kampf". But the first seems true only if you are using a broad definition of propaganda. These days great works of art rarely set out to serve the purposes of a government. They may promote causes, but that is not normally why people esteem them. The books on this list, however, partially vindicate the first part of Orwell's assertion. Governments or ideological groups either encouraged their authors to write them or promoted their writings for political ends. During the cold war Western intelligence agencies subsidised authors, sometimes very good ones. The cia set up literary magazines in France, Japan and Africa. One purpose was to counter censorship by autocrats. Another was to make global culture friendlier to Western aims. British intelligence services commissioned works of fiction that supported empire. Some writers consciously offered their pens to the state; others did not realise that governments or groups would promote their work. Here are six books, all by authors of merit, that are works of propaganda in one way or another.
The Eyes of Asia. By Rudyard Kipling. Kashi House; 128 pages; $13.95 and Ł10.
Rudyard Kipling's role as a propagandist for the British empire is often forgotten. British intelligence recruited the author during the first world war to write fiction that sought to undermine Indian nationalism.
Doctor Zhivago. By Boris Pasternak. Vintage Publishing; 512 pages; $20 and Ł9. 99.
During the cold war the cia sought to undermine censorship in the Soviet Union by covertly promoting the circulation of books and magazines. The snoops sent the novels of Fyodor Dostoevsky, LEO Tolstoy and Vladimir Nabokov. Their favourite author was Boris Pasternak. His novel "Doctor Zhivago" had "great propaganda value", declared a cia memo in 1958. That may seem like a surprising thing to say about a love story. But the cia was interested not only in the novel's "thought-provoking nature", but also in the "circumstances of its publication". Soviet literary magazines and publishing houses suppressed the book.
Partisans. By Peter Matthiessen. Vintage Books; 184 pages; $5. 95 and Ł4. 00.
When it was founded in 1947, the cia hired many Yale University seniors. Peter Matthiessen was one of them. The agency sent him to Paris, where he used as his cover story that he was writing a novel, a story that his cia handler in the city thought "feeble". Matthiessen did write a novel in Paris, in fact two. "Partisans", his second, follows Barney Sand, a Paris-based journalist for an American wire service, as he tracks down a former leader of the French Communist Party whom he hopes to interview. The communist had helped Sand escape the Spanish civil war when he was a child. The novel displays such detailed knowledge of the workings of the party that the Chicago Tribune, in a review, suggested that its author go back to Moscow. Yet its sympathies are clearly with the West. Sand comes to see communists as self-serving and dishonest; his patriotism grows. The self-consciously literary prose in which "Partisans" is written foreshadows the next step in Matthiessen's career. He founded the Paris Review, a literary magazine, which he also used as a cover to spy on left-wing American artists and intellectuals who had relocated to Paris. The cia thought this a much better cover for his espionage work. "Partisans" is not Matthiessen's finest work. He is the only writer who has won America's National Book Award both for fiction and non-fiction. But, as Sand snakes around Paris, he reminds readers that Matthiessen was observing his leftist friends not only for art's sake.
Reading Lolita in Tehran: A Memoir in Books. By Azar Nafisi. Random House; 356 pages; $18. Penguin; Ł9. 99.
Azar Nafisi, an Iranian émigrée and professor of English, became famous in 2003 when she published her memoir of the Islamic revolution. "Reading Lolita in Tehran" was an instant hit in America, spending 117 weeks on the New York Times's bestseller list. It's the riveting story of eight Iranian women who meet secretly to study the novels of Nabokov, Gustave Flaubert and Henry James. Ms Nafisi's students are children of the Islamic Republic who rebel against its book bans and the "putrid and deceptive hyperbole" of its rhetoric. That description does not apply to "Reading Lolita", which deserves the admiration it gets. Yet it owes a debt to institutions that are not typical of literary memoirs. Ms Nafisi thanks the Smith Richardson Foundation, which seeks to "advance US interests and values abroad", for a grant that helped her write the book. It is only through "literature that one can put oneself in someone else's shoes", Ms Nafisi writes. For Western readers, "Reading Lolita" is enlightening in the way that literature was for her students. It also supports a harsh judgment of Iran's theocracy that America continues to hope will be influential.

In June 1940, two days after France signed an armistice with Germany, John Steinbeck wrote to Franklin Roosevelt, the American president, urging his administration to create "immediate, controlled, considered" propaganda. Steinbeck took his own advice, writing a story to inspire people in occupied Europe to rise up against the Nazis. "The Moon Is Down" is set in an unnamed European country that has been invaded by a fascist power. The fictional place, Steinbeck wrote, is characterized by Norway's severity, Denmark's cunning and France's reason. The occupiers, led by Colonel Lanser, struggle to subdue an uprising. Members of the resistance against the Nazis translated the novel and smuggled it into Norway, Denmark and France. In 1945, after the war's end, Norway's king gave Steinbeck the country's Freedom Cross for his contribution to European resistance movements.

The "Thank You's" and "Attaboy's" (Simple but effective. Perhaps a relic to some, but in my books, still a thing of beauty)
Yes, the often "thankless" ISG contributions and contributors that are overlooked and often forgotten, in the eyes of some. After all, what is a leader without followers? What is a report/post, if no-one or anyone responds to it? Or it goes unnoticed and doesn't "move the needle" or illicit a response in anyone, enough to take the time to log-in and write a response?
You know, as well as I do, that there are ISGers/BMs that have hundreds/thousands of posts to their names and how much they've "actually contributed" will always be "a bone of contention", for ISGers/BMs who wish to debate such things, or argue about another ISGer's "worth" or "value" of contribution, as if somehow they've been appointed "ISG Jury, Judge and Executioner". Some goes for the frequency of contributions to forums. I know I lot guys, are hung up on "how much" or "When much" an ISGer contributes, I'm not one of those guys. Second, you've been here at ISG, long enough to know, what an actual personal attack looks like vs. a disagreement w/r to where conversational content should be "appropriately" placed. So when you use the word "attack" about a half-dozen times, is this you claiming "victimhood"? If so...have at it!
But let me remind you, this is the second (2nd) time you've called me out for "inappropriately" posting to the wrong thread. The first (1st) time, rightly so, since I was trying to make a point, about the inconsistencies of posting "correctly". I knew then somebody was eventually, going to call me out. Coincidentally, it just so happen to be you. The second (2nd) time, I did post in the "appropriate" forum. But again it was YOU, calling me out for said infraction. So was that just a coincident?
