Seems like differing opinions on this, but I really liked Casa do Porco in the downtown area (lots of vagrants though).

I've eaten at many Fogo de Chaos all over the states for the last 30 years and the quality (from service to food) has consistently degraded over that time. I think it roughly corresponds to when the business was sold by the founders. So I'm wondering two things, are they any better on their home turf and are there better options for rodizio style meat?

Salvador: Definitely the SENAC buffet. SENAC is a cooking and hospitality school in Pelo. Everyday for lunch they serve a huge buffet, about 15-20 entrees, all Bahian food. At 20 USD, its an absolute steal. You can sample EVERYTHING that you have read about, and the best version of it. Come hungry.

Manaus: Tabaqui the Banda. Its in the main Teatro square. Its the best of a relatively poor dining scene in Manaus. You can get the house specialty. Grilled half Tambaqui fish, which will easily feed two.

If you like Japanese food and happen to be in Florianopolis, then I recommend Nipo Sushi Restaurant. I'm talking fresh, delicious sushi and sashimi plus many other tasty Japanese plates. And the attentive service was some of the best I have ever experienced in Brazil. The interesting thing is that this place is located inside of a shopping mall which typically isn't the kind of location where you often find high quality, sit down restaurants. But that said, the absolute best tuna sashimi I've had so far this trip was at Cafe Photo in Sampa LOL!

Here are a few SP restaurants that I really like.

For Steak Churrasco style: Barbacoa (Itaim Bibi).

For Steak menu driven: Rodeio, Pobre Juan (Vila Olimpia), and Figueira Rubaiyat.

For Traditional Churrasquinho: A Casa do Porco Bar.

For Sushi: Nakka, Kosushi, Aya Japanese Cuisine, and Jun Sakamoto (expensive $$ but a great experience).

For Brazilian: Restaurante Banzeiro, Mani. And the. O. M.

For Italian: Fasano, Due Cuochi Cucina and Terraco Italy (for the view mainly).

For Pizzza: Margherita Pizzeria.

For just a sandwich and fries: Z Deli.

One day I will post accompanied photos of various dishes in my favorite restaurants, but I am too lazy to do it today. The restaurants I listed above are just the tip of the iceberg. The food in SP is almost as good as the girls. Enjoy!

You can expect to pay $250 all in. $160 for salmao na brasa, or my favorite, filet de peixe bel munier, for enough to serve 2. Again, I recommend the limonade suisse. The salada caprese is excellent. Everything is good. Locations all over Rio, including Botafogo, Copa, Recreio. Botafogo is the original, and it is located at the top of the social economic food chain (Exec Talent will hate me for saying that). Again, that's $50 US Dollars, which is not all that much in the rich world, $250 reais is a few fucks in Rio, so it is valuable consideration.

OK, all that said, what it is harder to get in those rich world venues you mention like LA or NYC is cheap, good, super hot Carioca pussy. That's the point. The top tier food and top tier hoar combination goes a long, long way towards being about all that a man wants in life -- the 6 s's -- shit, shower, shave, supper, sex, sleep.

The thing about classy joints in Rio like Marius or some super-duper sushi places (Sushi Leblon or something) is they're costly as fuck, just like upscale restaurants in NY or LA. I mean there is nothing wrong about it, but living in NYC I don't find gorging on finer food in Rio all that alluring. I highly recommend Lima for an incredible culinary journey on the cheap, but that's a totally different story, LOL.I ate at Marius less than 2 months ago with an ISGer from Italy, and it was $250 r. It's a once a month or quarter spectacular meal for those who love seafood, like me.

I will add, Cafe Marambaia in Guaratiba has the best paella I have ever had.

Cais do Oriente has become kind of a go to for centro mongering, as I was yesterday with two ISGers.

The bigger point, and the point of this thread is that Senor Anaggie and Senor Mr E were saying that all the brazilian chow is similar. I'm just saying that there is some really good eating choices near the thing that makes Rio and Brazil unique -- the sex, which is the point of this board, after all.

I take Senor Anaggie's point that there are perhaps even better restaurants, and women, in SP, but at a higher cost, and without the beach / waterfall hiking combinations which make Rio geographically unique. Its a matter of personal taste, like the Copa / Barra debate being whether you prefer Times Square (copa) or Miami and safety (Barra); SP, I know well too, but its just that I prefer actually swimming in the ocean, while also having a sex menu which is completely full from top to bottom tier, all colors, and for that Rio and Barra is optimal, perhaps a little like the Cartegena of the Marquez novels.

And without meaning any disrespect or harm whatsover, I will suggest that some of those novellas, like Memories of my melancholy working girls by Marquez, might be a good antidote to Brazil Withdrawal Syndrome; I realize that much of what this particular board is is actually just reminicences by men who are not in Rio, and who can only spend a small percentage of their time in Rio due to their circumstances.

Julieta De Serpa if anyone is looking for a nice romantic restaurant. That special person you take there will probably be taking many pictures of the place. The food is good but nothing spectacular. We couldn't get reservations for dinner so we had lunch there. The three course meal was are $89 not including drinks which is a fair price. They do have a website if you are interested. In fact, if you are looking for a best place to stay in Rio, my suggestion is to search at Lucio Costa 2916.
