There are so many videos on YT warning against visiting Medellin.......In 2023 thirty-one foreigners were murdered in Medellin while three hundred and sixty-one Colombians were killed there. I suppose there should be warnings to Colombians against visiting Medellin too.

I have visited Medellin about 20 times over the last 8 years with some trips lasting 3 months. I have even gotten functional in Spanish. If you are careful with who you invite and where you stay, there is not a 'high chance' you will get drugged and robbed with any girl you take back. But even if you are careful in how you screen your chicas, it is impossible to make it 'no chance'. A buddy of mine stayed in a building that is well known for great security and was drugged by a chica who had gotten in with a fake ID. I had to lend him money just to eat.
That people will post here saying they personally haven't had a problem is statistically insignificant.
I returned from a 6 week trip last month. It will be my last. I loved MDE. But for me MDE is over. The chicas are getting more mercenary. The locals are getting more angry and hostile. The street has gotten more dangerous. The influx of Nomads and tourists has made logging costs unreasonable. The Peso has gotten stronger making everything more expensive.
I'm heading back to Asia.

There are so many videos on YT warning against visiting Medellin. The sex scene is too dangerous with too many druggings that have led to a big rise in deaths of Western tourists. Can anyone with first hand experience comment?
How do you take girls back to your room if you know there is a high chance that you could get drugged and robbed? Any tips? Is it safe to take a girl back if you lock away your valuables and don't take your eyes off your drink?
We can always, always, always count on some asshole to mess it up for everybody!

I will be in MDE in a few weeks, staying at a female-friendly hotel and meeting the ladies from https://lacelestina.co/ for privacy and security purposes.
I am assuming these girls are not going to drug and rob me.

In 2023 thirty-one foreigners were murdered in MedellinI would venture a guess, overwhelmingly most if not all of them were mongers of some sort. If you add up every murder of mongers around the world on all of this forums locales, I would doubt they total 1.
So that would make Medellin the most dangerous place to monger in the world, in fact more dangerous than all other locales combined, I am curious to know their clearance rate down there.

I returned from a 6 week trip last month. It will be my last. I loved MDE. But for me MDE is over. The chicas are getting more mercenary. The locals are getting more angry and hostile. The street has gotten more dangerous..I get it. I had a woman in Barranquilla who was really sweet. We met in Medellin and she talked with her cousin who lived there. She became crazy aggressive and demanded more money. I dumped her because the sweet girl I liked had become this ruthless money machine. She had this crazy fixation on $200 and this was in 2021. I considered her a friendly acquaintance if not a friend but when she went into Medellin full hooker mode, I went into john mode and told her she was not worth that much. The greed spurred on by her Medellin cousin destroyed whatever we had. Even when she was back in Barranquilla, she still had the $200 price tag. I just shrugged my shoulders and told her if I wanted to get laid, I could get it for 10% of what she was asking. Medellin completely ruined her.
And it was not just her. The women in Medellin have an edge unlike women elsewhere in the country. It is like a game to see which sex can screw over the other sex first. So there was this defensiveness and shitty attitude towards men that I did not see elsewhere in the country. The irony is a few women went out of their way to show me that they were not the money grubbing, scamming hookers so characteristic of Medellin. So yeah, the beauties are here, but they come with an edge. My gal's daughter even made a comment when we were in Mexico when a bunch of Colombians came to swim in a pool we were in. She said, "Paisas! (people from Medellin) I hate paisas. " They have no use for Medellin at all, and they are not alone.
I have been to places in Colombia where beauties abound, the countryside is gorgeous, and people do not lock their doors. The women in Bogota are not as pretty but they are classier and friendlier. If you are into women with curves, Cali is tough to beat. Barranquilla is where the famed Colombian beauties like Shakira and Sofia Vergara are from and beauties abound in that tropical climate.
So yeah, go to Asia if your dollar stretches further, but most of Colombia is not like Medellin. Not at all.

Colombia = foreign monger entrapment country number one now.Entrapment? Not likely. And what is a minor for prostitution purposes. I know the answer but in the US and other countries and in Colombia this aspect of law is the same. And what you refer to as a minor by common law is ridiculous. It is not common law, it is statute law, and it is no excuse to somehow think that it is less wrong to be with a minor sex worker. Whether some were unknowingly with someone under 18 in a prostitution situation. Yes that has happened, and is very unfortunate. But it is up to all that are part of this to be quite sure that you are not over this line.
And in Colombia you may get arrested in any manner they choose.
Anyway, I'm not a fan of the mayor or others implying that it is only the dirty gringos doing this. That is political and does nothing for the estimated several hundred thousand victims in the country. Hopefully that will be dealt with as well, even if it does not get the same publicity. There is awareness of the problem, and the internal look will come because many people there know it and can point it out.
Two things:
BBBJCIM great experience recently for 120,000 pesos. Prices are a bit higher now, but can't complain given the general inflation everywhere.

I'm heading back to Asia.Nothing against Venezuelans but its very well known the Venezuelans that have infiltrated Colombian cities are not buy scouts. They use women as weapons to prey on Foreigners and Medellin is one of their favorite places to target Ill-informed tourists. The girls attracted tourists, the tourists attract the Venezuelan gangs. Try learning Spanish and go to some of the other lesser known cities in Colombia. Cartagena, Bogota and Barranquilla not being one of them.

BBVA is projecting the peso at 4300 next year.
I was pretty shocked to see Colombia at a much higher risk of default than Peru and even slightly higher than Brazil.
4300 sounds about right if there is no recession. I think we go back to 5000 or higher if the USA hits recession as people pile into the dollar like they did with Covid. As for why there will be one, this guy lays out the case for a USA recession.
https://mishtalk.com/economics/a-second-quarter-recession-this-year-looks-increasingly-likely/
https://mishtalk.com/economics/i-expect-a-fed-rate-cut-in-july-despite-market-view-of-18-5-percent-chance/
In general, data is weakening across the board. Real disposable income has been negative in two of the last there months.
The BEA mage a large negative revision to GDP and GDI.
Consumer spending took a dive in April and I expect it will stick this time.
Terrible reports from Target and Walmart on discretionary consumer spending.
There have been numerous negative revisions in most of the recent hard data.
Job openings are plunging.
The GDPNow forecast is plunging fast.
I finally expect rent to break the string of 32 consecutive months of rising at least 0. 4 percent.
The July meeting is nearly two months away, on July 31. There is plenty of time for further economic weakening and that is what I expect.
There is no meeting in August. If the Fed is at all concerned about slowing, but not wanting to risk being too late (not that it will matter, but that is how the Fed thinks), the Fed will find a reason for a July cut.
And usually you see a recession when you see people saying the stupidest shit going. Remember the liar loans right before the 2008 recession where it was cool to loan someone making minimum wage a million bucks to buy a house because housing never goes down?
Well, this was some of the stupidest shit I have read, and it was today, https://www.wsj.com/economy/americans-have-more-investment-income-than-ever-before-84b7a6c6.
Taken together, recent stock gains and bond income have put Hernandez in a better position to achieve his goals of retiring early and helping his two boys buy future homes.
"I'm not going to die and take the money with me," he said.
The income flowing to Americans such as Hernandez has sparked debate among some analysts as to whether higher interest rates might actually be stimulating the economy. End of link.
The USA is now paying $1. 2 trillion annually on interest on the debt. Over the last 10 years, that was $300 or $400 billion. And there are economists debating if that could be a good thing? That is some pretty fucking stupid shit.
Back to the article. Instead, hype around artificial intelligence has helped push major stock indexes near records by boosting shares in tech companies, chip makers and even utilities. End of link.
Yeah, that is what is keeping everything going, the hype of AI. The good part is on the hardware side where Nvidia has been selling enough of the chips to keep the AI hype going, but it is up to the software people to take those chips and do something useful with them. If you look at Microsoft and Google, there are extraordinary AI expected gains priced in their stocks right now. If they fall short, the market is done.
So the USA market has priced in the kid of productive gains for AI seen with the internet or railroads, but I have not seen anything affecting my life from AI yet. It was cute and cool to play with it, but that has been all so far. It is weird to say that the Colombian exchange rate comes down to if the hype of AI is met, but I believe it does.

Petro has claimed the health care system is bankrupt; it is nothing more than corruption. I know a nurse who has not been paid by the clinic she works at in more than 3 months. They went on strike for a day, but still have not received their back due pay. All but one of my friends want to get out. And the one who doesn't one to leave Colombia happens to be living in Europe at the moment; she hasn't seen her homeland in almost 12 months.

Petro has claimed the health care system is bankrupt; it is nothing more than corruptionYes its difficult after so many decades of right wing corruption. The new cabinet have much to fix and they xan only take baby steps for the fear of civil war. Whoever was at parque lleras last night got to see the new wave of measures against mongers. So they have plain clothes officers arresting people if they are suspected for soliciting minors. 2 men were arrested and given how Colombia has been handling these cases, they will likely face serious sentences in a Colombian jail. Honestly, it's not easy to tell the difference between a 16 yr old Colombian who's had a hard life who tells you she just turned 20. This city is sick of male tourists in general. Add that to more and more gringos are getting drugged and killed, I simply can't justify it anymore. If I didn't have real estate in the city there's no way I would come back when there's other countries where I can happily monger in peace. The good days are over boys. It's honestly getting creepy.
Real estate prices are up, maybe this is a good time to sell? Anyway, I was not in Parque Lleras last night but I had a great time. I probably don't know what the good days were. Honestly, it's not easy to tell the difference between a 16 yr old Colombian who's had a hard life who tells you she just turned 20.It is actually very easy to tell. Look at the clothing and accessories for one. Maybe I better take that back since there are guys on this site that swear they can not even tell the difference between a woman and a dude dressed up as a woman.

This is Sosua 2. 0. The difference is Colombian government won't tolerate gringos making their country look like the Disney of brothels on YouTube or TikTok.
I expect a crash landing soon. I really think they're going to simply ban prostitution in Medellin soon just to legally arrest a ton of gringos and make them look bad.
Whoever was at parque lleras last night got to see the new wave of measures against mongers. ..Do you mean the underage girls are allowed inside the park, and there was no ID check at the gate?
You better bring a lot of stuff then. In Sosua a threesome means fucking one chick while her friend is stealing your stuff. Then fucking the other chick while the one you just finished fucking steals more of your stuff. And do not just think of stuff as valuables. Stuff can be cologne, toothpaste, whatever is in the fridge, anything. So if you want nonstop 3 somes, be sure to have nonstop stuff for them to steal.
Concerned about security in the room with the chicas?
1. Book a room in another hotel.
2. Goto a Cabana.
3. Stay at a hotel that keeps or records the cedula of your guest.
Lastly ignore the idiocy that is found in the post below. Enjoy! All due respect, this is not an idiocy but common sense. A threesome is one of the most dangerous things for a solo newbie monger in Sosua. And not just a newbie. And not just in Sosua, but anywhere else for that matter.
But the danger specifically in Sosua is not a petty theft, IMHO. Things can get heated when a girl decides to change the terms midsession. Imagine when 2 of them gang up on you.
Not even mentioning that threesomes are ridiculously overrated unless the girls are really into each other AND you. But that's not a project on a virgin voyage.

Yes its difficult after so many decades of right wing corruption. The new cabinet have much to fix and they xan only take baby steps for the fear of civil war. The rich and powerful do not want to pay their taxes, just like in all other countries that sold their souls to capitalism. Colombia is a democracy born in chains. Hopefully it will persist and then we can see substantive progress for the people. You pretty much hit it on the head. The right (whether it be the liberals or conservatives. Yes you US citizens, liberal does NOT mean left) has had Colombia for well over a century and has done everything possible to not invest in the people in a grand scale.
Colombia has people of various colors who are mostly loving and gracious people. Yet they have so many criminals and hustlers and criminal armed groups. Wonder why? The rich have done everything to make sure the wealth goes their way, and that there be NO huge investment in bettering the lives of the Colombian people. They just want to have Colombia live off exporting raw materials, and be consumers of mostly western products while never industrializing themselves (aka achieve a level of economic independence as much as possible within what they can achieve). That's a path to being forever an undeveloped country. Plenty of crime, hustlers, prostitution, with the rich people separated and protected from all that. Thankfully Petro represents a change of all that. But too many older people are still ignorant as shit. But Petro is a good start.
The problem is Colombia has a western electoral political system. That gives opportunity for the wealthy classes to interrupt any legitimate long term plans for development. "Western Democracy" doesn't work for poor countries whose legacy comes from colonialism. That's why Asia has been so successful. They didn't adopt this "western democracy" crap. They had de facto juntas that had long term development plans for their societies and today it has bore fruit. Am ranting a bit but food for thought.
All due respect, this is not an idiocy but common sense. A threesome is one of the most dangerous things for a solo newbie monger in Sosua. And not just a newbie. And not just in Sosua, but anywhere else for that matter.

Not even mentioning that threesomes are ridiculously overrated unless the girls are really into each other AND you. But that's not a project on a virgin voyage. The risk for a newbie, is much the same as with a single session with any stranger off the street.
I've been a threesome fan all my life, and had some memorable sessions, all the way from roommate students on college campus in my home town, to hitch-hiking honeys in California in the good old days, to high end hookers from the Casinos of the Bahamas. Never had a problem except, a couple times they insisted I changed condoms every time I alternated from one to the other.
Except for the free after party stuff with friends, there's a bit of science and a bit of art, and a bit of money involved that makes it work for me. Not just two warm bodies. The golden rule of threesomes for me is to let your gal pick the third, and you both have to agree.
My regular is bi, so threesomes are not uncommon, especially as I get older.
CoolieHigh knows what I'm talking about, I've seen him in action. Maybe he will weigh in?
All due respect, this is not an idiocy but common sense. In my opinion the response was idiocy. Maybe written in sarcastic manner but I did not think it had any useful information for a new person hiring prostitutes in Sosua. We will have to agree to disagree.
With all due respect on June 11, 2016 I posted the following:
I've been in this game for years. It made me an animal. There's rules to this shit. I wrote me a manual. A step-by-step booklet for you to get your two balls drained while many pesos remain.
Number nine: should been number one to me. Two chicas you don't know will bring you certain whoa. Threesome in your room is always a no go. Turn head for a minute you be left with nothing in it.Let me translate for you: These were instructions that I wrote to educate people on how to take care of themselves while hiring prostitutes in the Dominican Republic. Perhaps the fact that I did not write it in the Kings English made it more difficult for those who are less diverse or knowledgable about the colorful use of language to understand. But the principles are there and still applicable today for those who need them. Feel free to add to them if you feel I missed something.
A threesome is one of the most dangerous things for a solo newbie monger in Sosua. And not just a newbie. And not just in Sosua, but anywhere else for that matter.Dangerous is simply not a word I have ever associated with mongering in Sosua unless you are talking about BBFS. My post that you quoted is a very practical step by step guide on how you handle issues of petty theft if you are concerned about it. You see when I write posts I provide information for the subject to use. Not commentary that even a used sense of humor purchased a 2nd hand store does not think is funny.
But the danger specifically in Sosua is not a petty theft, IMHO. Things can get heated when a girl decides to change the terms midsession. Imagine when 2 of them gang up on you.I have never had a conflict with a chica in Sosua. IMO these conflicts happen because people are too attached to that worthless fiat currency they bring with them to pay their prostitutes.
They get in the room. Something does not go exactly to their specifications and they get upset. When they could just end the session and send the chica on her way with her payment or less.
This has happened to me less than half a dozen times in Sosua. But it never resulted in a conflict. I don't even get upset. The chica has always left with (some) money and I just move on to the next prostitute. I can make more money. I cannot make more time.
Not even mentioning that threesomes are ridiculously overrated unless the girls are really into each other AND you. But that's not a project on a virgin voyage.Well this is your opinion. But the way you set up a good threesome is to let the girl that you are already comfortable with pick the other girl. That has worked for me, right in Sousa. They were bisexual and ate each others pussy while I watched. I fucked them doggy style while they ate each others pussy. Then they let me cum on their faces together while they kissed. It was an OUTSTANDING experience. But to each their own. I would like to add this threesome occurred in my room without a problem. Because I knew the girl that set the threesome up and she brought the third girl.
Shout out to the amazing Mr. T. Your recommendations always deliver in a superior fashion You are a true gentleman among a bunch of critical mother fuckers up in here. Hat Tip!
Yes, I know not everyone cannot nor want to be me. But if you put the work in you can get what you want in Sosua. That is if you are not one of those broke, busted cheap mother fuckers that ain't got 2 DOP to rub together. If that is how you are rolling my brothers, stay at home and make some mother fucking money before you take your trip. SHIT.
How you like me now?
Colombia has people of various colors who are mostly loving and gracious people. Yet they have so many criminals and hustlers and criminal armed groups. Wonder why? Colombia's leftists should get smart and ship whatever scum they have around off to the USA like everyone else. .
Quick reality check, even though this site isn't about Colombian law and politics, in the interest of sharing accurate and valid information it's worth considering that a prostitution ban would require a constitutional amendment and congressional ratification. Local and state politicians (governer and mayor) can issue temporary decrees like the one that banned prostitution and curtailed operating hours of certain businesses in and around Parque Lleras. That is not nearly the same thing as a legally enforceable ban. Even that temporary ban caused sex worker advocacy groups to mount noisy protests. So the prospect of a legal prohibition is highly unlikely at best. I think punters who have been in Lleras recently would back me up that there are girls and bars in action. Also, Colombia's reputation ship sailed years ago. Not many people around the world are going to be shocked to hear Colombia associated with drugs, crime, and putas. If anything, the recent politically motivated publicity campaigns reinforced the negative image and added the wrinkle of pedo activity. It is not unusual among the Colombian political class to act in its own short term interest this way without regard for future impact on the citizens. You see it in fiscal policy centered around constant borrowing against labor and taxes that will keep the majority poor for another century or more. The campaign is purely for domestic consumption. It does not exist outside of Colombia, neither does it exist in neighborhoods north of San Diego.
Post pandemic it's been like this.
I lived in the city for 7 years and then I decided to travel the world for a year, and I came back to continue my real estate investments in the country, which I do very well in. Theres no limit of guys who will pay high prices for AirBnB's to sleep with a couple 7's that rush them screaming "leche papi leche".
So last night I met an amazing spinner in El Poblado yesterday and we hung out all day and eventually she came back to my place and we did the deed. We had really good chemistry and she didn't want to leave my apartment. We decided to order some food and smoke weed. She started to ask me if I can help her with her studies aka school fees. I said no at first and she started to kiss me intensely. This is only possible because I'm in great shape and I'm fluent in Spanish to be honest. This would not be a common experience for even handsome guys with NO spanish. I give her 100 mil and what she proceeds to show me BLOWS my mind! She starts showing transactions that she's received from guys she's met on dating apps. $50, $100, $120 and even up $200 and she hasn't met any of them except one guy. She is smoking, hot, admittedly but why in the world would you give money to women you're not having sex with? THATS INSANE!! And the way that she talked about them, she didn't say it explicitly but it's clear she had very little respect for them. She even said that she has a picture of her buying groceries that she uses with all of them, but she actually buys clothes and the new iphone. She has a newer iPhone than me. I would never tell a man how to spend his money but man that is pathetic. She swallowed my kids 30 minutes ago and now she's making fun of the guys who give her money.

I met a garota in Solarium and we got along well and hung out a few more times that trip. We kept in touch and next trip she suggested staying with her in her apartment in Copa. I stayed with her 10 days during which I fucked her and her friend day and night for nothing. I stayed at her apartment for free and only paid for some of our food and booze. She showed me messages from guys sending her money from the US and Europe and referred to them as "losers. ".
That was 22 years ago and I will never get the way she spoke of those guys out of my head. I will flat out never send a girl money nor will I pay obviously above-market prices for chicas. I don't expect to get freebies like I did when I was young, but I'm simply not going to pay more than necessary. I could afford to pay every chica I bone 1 or 2 million pesos (Colombia), but I know better.

She is smoking, hot, admittedly but why in the world would you give money to women you're not having sex with? THATS INSANE!!Some may even say it is insane to give money to a chick just because you are having sex with her. So she begs you for school money, then shows you all the other guys that are sending her school money too. I guess everybody wants to see her educated.
Then too don't a lot of those girls do cam and sell pictures? The guys could be sending money for that.
Also several board members said they sent chicks money during covid who they had never met before. They did not seem to think it was insane and some of them even said it paid off when they were able to get back into the country. Maybe those guys are kind of prepaying in the same fashion.
It is nothing new for guys to give money to chicks for nothing. This has been going on since the beginning of time. A lot of guys have a soft spot like that. In the Thailand thread another poster just said how he watched some guy hand a chick a brand new iPhone in the gogo bar the other night. When he talked to the chick, she said she never asked for it. The guy just did it. I think he had just laid eyes on her 2 days before.
I wish I could find some pussy that makes me do things like that, but so far in my 52 years I guess I have only had regular old pussy.
One of my barrio chicas that lives in Santo Domingo just informed me that earlier this morning there was an accident on the metro cable línea k in which two cabins hit each other and then one of the cabins fell off the line.
I don't know if anyone was hurt or died.
I looked on minutos30 to confirm it and sure as shit there was an article about it just posted 3 hours ago.

https://nypost.com/2024/06/27/world-news/chilean-actor-alex-araya-found-dead-in-colombia-after-tinder-date-with-two-women/We already know about it. In fact it was mentioned that it's on track to be like 65 per year if the current rate continues. Even this article mentions it as "one tourist per week" being killed in Medellin and over half of those are Americans. There were even 2 US border patrol officers who were drugged and killed in Medellin recently. Be safe out there guys.

https://english.elpais.com/international/2024-06-24/29-tourist-deaths-trigger-alarm-bells-in-medellin.htmlI don't know why but this is such a fascinating topic to me. It's a point that has beaten to death. And most importantly we all have different risk tolerances. Understanding your own risk tolerance is so important because it's totally pointless to make a trip when you have to deal with fear.
My own personal take on these numbers: today, there are 10 flights arriving in MDE from the US. Undoubtedly this does not account for Americans connecting in Panama or other countries. But let's just look at those 10. In my experiences, I'd say that every flight I have made to MDE has at least 60 mongers. I'd say that's a very conservative estimate, based on converstaions I've had and overheard both on the plane and particuarly waiting on the immigration line. Extrapolate that out. If today is an average day, you have maybe 600 American mongers entering MDE daily. That's 219,000 a year. With 65 deaths a year, that means it impacts 0. 03% of mongers. I'm not trying to say there's no risk. Of course there is. But I think about my trips. And I watch American mongers in Parque Lleras or on the streets. What I am very confident of is that I'm not in the 0. 03% of mongers making themselves an easy target.
My point. Yes of course there are risks. And no, our hobby isn't worth your life. But with even just some minimal mitigation of risks, the chances you are going to be killed are very small. And you can argue with my math. But I'd also say that 65 per year deaths also includes some obvious non-monger deaths. They also aren't all Americans. I say that just to point out my calculations are fairly sound and fairly conservative.
I'm not trying to argue or stoke flames in a never ending debate. My only interest is that we make sound decisons. Know your own tolerance. Evaluate the situation. And we'll all make the right decisions for ourselves.

I haven't done the calculations but I wonder if it makes sense for USAns to go mongering in MDE to reduce their safety risk compared to being in the USA and exposed to mass murders, police beatings, incarceration, death-by-McDonalds-and-Pizza-Hut, lack of public healthcare etc. Any takers?
Is mongering only available in MDE? I don't think so. LOL. There are so many safe places in Colombia. I pick Colombia any day.

But neither of those were serious in terms of physical risk. But of the perhaps 50 people I have met that were either visiting there, or lived there, I would say at least half have been drugged, robbed at knifepoint or gunpoint, or been victims of some sort of crime. And these are not stupid weekend warriors, they include many that speak Spanish, are aware of their surroundings, etc. So to me it is a high risk place. None of these, to the best of my knowledge, have been murdered. But the murder stats are the tip of the iceberg, those are the robberies or druggings that have gone wrong generally. So the chances of someone trying something are, in my opinion, high. The chances of it injuring you may depend on how it goes. But of guys that have been drugged, in particular, many never report it because they don't want complications back home, or publicity, or they blame themselves and feel sheepish about it. So who knows what the real numbers are. But it stretches my comfort zone. Having said that the casas are pretty safe, strip clubs (when you are in them) pretty safe, and perhaps Facebook girls that you have had on as friends for a number of years who have regular looking Facebook accounts.

Were these actual false police in the sense that they weren't police at all but just some random guys wearing a police uniforms and acting as if they were the police and then demanding money? Or were they real police officers who were corrupt and threatening you with jail unless if you paid them?
Find out for yourself papacito!!

Is mongering only available in MDE? I don't think so. LOL. There are so many safe places in Colombia. I pick Colombia any day.I'm discovering different cities in Colombia and getting off the beaten path sometimes. The midsized cities offer a more tranquil laid back feel and the people there are pretty good. One day I want to check out Monteria, Sincelejo, Tunja, Valledupar, Popayan, Pastor, Ibaque and other cities like that. So many people go to Medellin, Cartagena, Bogota over and over again and that's all they know. They have no idea what Colombia is all about and many are biased.
Now that's what I'm talking about. All people have to do go explore instead of simping these hoes.

All people have to do go explore instead of simping these hoes.Exactly bro! I recently have been discovering the Coffee Region of Colombia in the cities of Pereira, Manizales and Armenia. I love the change of pace and tranquility. It also is a very beautiful area of the country. The weather is almost perfect and the people are very friendly. For example, Valle de Cocora is a magnificent place along with the nearby pueblo of Salento. Anybody that says the smaller cities and towns are boring is because all they probably do is chase hoes and flush money down the toilet. Many guys, not all, don't give a damn about Colombian culture or traditions. They could care less. Their whole life is consumed with drugs, alcohol, women and bad decisions. If anyone takes offense to this post then I'm probably talking about you.

Having said that the casas are pretty safe, strip clubs (when you are in them) pretty safe, and perhaps Facebook girls that you have had on as friends for a number of years who have regular looking Facebook accounts. This is a very fair counter argument. Especially the underreported aspect. But man, 50% of your known compatriots? I'm not doubting you! Like you, I can only rely on my own experiences. I guess in my 20+ trips to MDE, I'd say I've met and befriended 30-40 fellow mongers. At least friendly enough to share stories and discuss safety. I've only heard of one actual crime, and that was a pickpocketing. (And boy was that a story of what not to do. A girl pickpocketed his cell phone. He chased her down, confronted her, etc. But that's another story!
So am I biased towards the "safe" argument? Probably. And it is interesting how different our experiences are. As I said, my math is only valid for reported deaths. There are certainly undesirable fates less than death, so you have a fair argument. But I still think the numbers are HEAVILY in our favor with minimal mitigation steps.
Care to elaborate on the time you were extorted by "false" police?

Or were they real police officers who were corrupt and threatening you with jail unless if you paid them?I doubt they were actual police. But good actors. Chatting away with the one guy, talking about some construction across the street. Then he tells me he is undercover investigating something, and eventually that he wants to talk to me about it. Showed me some sort of ID, fake no doubt, and I started to get doubts when he was asking me about money. By then his buddy had come into the conversation, also with ID in his wallet. Anyway. So they had to see my money for some BS reason, and then the one guy just walked away with it. They had radios, etc. But when the guy started to walk I yelled, and the other guy ran a different direction. So they got a couple of hundred mil pesos and I felt pretty stupid about it after I talked to the real police.
And this all happened a block from Lleras and in one of the few areas that didn't have video camera coverage. According to the real police.

By then his buddy had come into the conversation, also with ID in his wallet...I had a very similar experience years ago in Patio Bonito. I was out for a morning walk when a guy stopped me. I spoke very, very little Spanish. He showed me some type of ID in his wallet that he said was police ID. Then his buddy showed up. They asked how much money I had. I reached in my pocket and pulled out all I had, coins and all, which was less than 10 mil. The buddy then opened his wallet and showed me a US bill, I think it was $50, and asked if I had any of those. I told him no. After some more discussion, they wrote an address on a piece of paper and said that was the police substation and I needed to report there later that day. I walked away and never went to that address. On another occasion, a guy stopped me near the Viva Exito in Laureles. He spoke some English. He started with just a conversation, then it turned to the same thing. As soon as he showed me the ID in his wallet, I told him I had things to do and walked away. All three of those wore plain clothes.

When you get to the Main Terminal Transportes in Manizales you can take the cable car up the mountains to el centro. You can start out at nearby Parque Caldas and the Caldas Mall across the street. It's a pretty lively area with things to do and see.

Lots of restaurants around there. For sexo I go to the San Nicholas area. Usually to Bar La 20, and Son Sonero. And the streets around there.I don't speak spanish but they tell me its very dangerous with cartel activity. Actually my one friend's extended family who does work for home for a big tech company in america moved down to Cali (hes colombian) even he told me not to come to Cali and just go to medellin. I don't know if that's just a danger thing or what. Anyway. Now I feel like I should check out Cali.
Is Cali Bogota?

I guess Checkmig is a thing of the past. Last time I did not do it and nobody said anything. This time I tried to do it and it let me do a couple of screens of info before finally saying bad gateway. Did the same on my phone and laptop. Nobody said anything about it on either end. The immigration guy just said Hello, scanned my passport, stamped it, then gave it back.

If I use English or Frequent Traveler, I get the bad gateway message. They do collect the information because the last time I arrived, I offered the agent my local address and he said it was already in the system. I was staying at a different place, so the address had not been put in on a previous trip. Anyhow, less than 30 seconds with the agent.
CheckMig is working for me. I was able to log on just now.
I went to Medellin in late May on United Airlines from Newark and I was asked for the CheckMig form.
When you go thru immigration in Medellin, they will electronically see if you have registered when you hand over your passport.
On the way back in early June, I filled out the form but was not asked for it at the Medellin airport. I asked the flight check-in about that and she told me they now see it electronically.
Best to ask the airlines if there is any doubt and not make assumptions that you don't need it.

Apologies if I should be posting this somewhere else. I tried finding the information and couldn't.
1) Are they still checking phones in immigration?
2) has anyone used an eSIM? I am thinking of getting a SIM from the airport. Is there a waiting period for the SIM to be active?
3) I am going to stay in a hotel in Poblado. The plan is to get 2 girls to the room everyday. We are there for 3 days. When I booked the room, I booked it for 2 guests. Will the hotel create a stink if I am getting multiple people? The hotel is Hampton inn in Poblado.
4) At this point I have lined up a bunch of dates with girls I have met on seeking. I don't fuck SW's or escorts. Just my thing.

So today when I went through the immigration line, I asked the officer if Checkmig was no longer needed. He said that everyone still needs to complete it. Funny thing is that I do not remember the last time I did it. Definitely did not do it today.

On my outbound flight from the states it seems to depend on the airline. Latam, never mentioned it, Delta just asked off and on if I did it and Spirit was adamant that I show them a completed Check mig. In.
My 6 trips this year no one in Bogota has even mentioned it.

This is really so simple. People keep saying that when at the airport in route to Colombia sometimes they ask for it and sometimes they don't. The truth is it does not matter what they say at the airport. You need the form completed and that is all you need to know. Because in Colombia if you did not do the form than you have a big problem.

And like I said, I have not done it in a few visits and nobody has said anything. After not filling it out I even asked immigration if it was required. He said yes then stamped my passport and said see you next time.
Hi guys,
I have been to Medellin many times but this is the first time I do not have a ride from the airport to my hotel. Is there a recommended service to call for a airport pick up or should I just take one of the guys who hound you when you come out of customs. Generally when I have a ride I pay them 30-35 usd. Does anyone know the going rate for a airport taxi. I will be going to downtown Poblado to a Airbnb next to Santa Fe mall. Thanks in advance.

Just make sure to take the San Diego minibus and not the one that goes to downtown by Nutibara. Even at night there are always cabs at San Diego mall, up to 9 PM / 21:00 or so.
For anyone in Colombia who uses dollars to get money from an ATM, today and tomorrow are good days to withdraw. The ATM rate today is 4285. It will be about the same tomorrow, then it will drop to about 4200 on the weekend and Monday.

In two weeks four associates will travel into CTG airport and stay at an AirBnB within the walled city. Arrival time should be between 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM on Sunday. Any information from seasoned travelers to CTG will be appreciated.
1. It appears CTG airport is about four miles from the walled city, so does one take an Uber, Taxi, etc? (While in other countries, we have used a variety of services).
2. What is the cost for transportation from the airport to the walled city? Are there any hidden fees such as luggage fees like they try to charge in Thailand?
3. Where is a good money exchange located in the inner walls? Some members highly recommend exchanging some money in the airport to pay for the taxi, but in past experiences the airport vendors do NOT offer good exchange rates.
4. What would you recommend for daytime activities in the walled city? We are only there for a few days and can't go too far away.
Thanks for any information you provide.

2. What is the cost for transportation from the airport to the walled city?Use the Indrive app. It should not be more than 10,000 pesos. It only cost me 12,000 to go to Laguito from the airport. But cars in Colombia are small, so it may be better to get 2 cars for 4 people with luggage.
Where is a good money exchange located in the inner walls? Why not use the ATM? Don't think I have ever exchanged money in Colombia in the last 20 years when there have been perfectly good ATMs around (besides BanColombia-don't use that one!

Some members highly recommend exchanging some money in the airport to pay for the taxi, but in past experiences the airport vendors do NOT offer good exchange rates. It would have been best to ask this in the CTG thread instead of the General thread since its CTG specific.
But to answer your questions:
1. Uber works just make sure the credit card on the account does not have foreign transaction fees. Apple Card does not work with Uber in CTG.
2. Cost of transportation will depend on size of vehicle. If all 4 of your associates and their luggage can fit into one of those small Taxis then its normal charge. I believe its 30 mil but I have not taken a taxi in a long time. I use Uber to avoid the nonsense of them not having change for 50 mil or 20 mil when its a 8 mil ride.
3. Never exchange at the Airport. Best place I've found to exchange money is in Getsemani. Here are 3 locations https://maps.app.goo.gl/Fn59duK4NaFR4T169 . All places in Centro will give you less and there are many. Never exchange your money on the street, they will give you fake money.
4. There are little to no daytime activates inside the wall city unless you want to walk around and look at buildings or eat food. There is the castle right outside the walls for sightseeing, but I would suggest day trips to an island the trips are from 8 am - 4 pm. You can also visit the mud volcano. The beaches on the mainland at BocaGrande, El Laguito and Marbella are there but I would not recommend them unless you like constantly being harassed to buy things. Getsemani is there if you like street food or art but again you will be harassed.
The first day will be wasted so I would not even try to plan anything for the daytime because by the time your associates arrive to the AirBB and check in it will be about 4 or 5 pm and everyone will be hungry, tired or want to shower. Plan for night time activities on the first day. On the second day I would suggest a day tour of the wall city, they have segway, bile, scooter, and walking. Pick the best one that will show you everything including Getsemani and the Castle San Felepie. Then you can return to those areas on your own free time to explore more in the daytime.
Also looks like your associates are going to be there during or close to Halloween. I not going to bore you with the usual stuff of asking the price before ordering, take pictures of menus before ordering, keep track of what you ordered, etc.
Don't let them become another story of getting robbed or scoped. Have a safe trip, No dar Papaya.

Scuba diving is best at the San Andres Island (requires flying). I've done it a few times, problem is the limitation of the danger flying within 12 hours before diving and within 12 after diving if your associates are only there for a few days it will be very tight timing to dive between arrival and departure.
Scooter rental is possible but I would highly advise against it. The roads are crowded, people drive worse than Bangkok, traffic is a nightmare. Roads are not that great as there are many potholes. Accidents are a thing as there are no traffic lights inside the walls, there are only traffic lights on the main roads outside the walls. Also I don't know if they are still doing Pico why Placa where you can only drive during peak hours on certain days if the plate number is even or odd. And the biggest issue will be parking.
It will be cheaper to take Uber, remember 50 mil is about $10 a ride anywhere from the wall city to El Laguito will be 10 mil in the day and up to 15 mil at night. Oh yea that's another thing, avoid yellow taxis, prices magically increase at nighttime, and they will set you up to get robbed by friends or extorted by the police.

Is this your first trip to Colombia and / or Cartagena?
... problem is the limitation of the danger flying within 12 hours before diving and within 12 after diving ... This is quite true, but even more dangerous is diving after spending some time in Bogota. The altitude / air pressure in Bogota (2640 masl / 75 kPa) is actually higher than most commerical flights cabin pressure (1,800 to 2,400 m / 800 kPa). Not just the absolute air pressure difference but your body can acclimatize to that altitude quickly. For me, I acclimatize to Bogota within 12 to 36 hours, but for some it can take 4 days or more. There are very few flights 12+ hours.
I don't know enough of Scuba / pressure, but it seems that would be a bigger danger.

In 2021 I took this Venezuelan chick reina to Santa Marta and we stayed a week there and on one of the days we took the local bus to taganga and then the lancha to playa grande (which wasn't very grande). We had an excellent almuerzo there fried fish and rice with soup and some coco loco drinks. We also went swimming and the water was crystal clear you could see little tropical fish in the water and the weather was perfect too. I also bought some little indigenous hand carved stone statues from a local that was there selling them. I still have them in my apartment in Medellin. I'll never forget that experience it was amazing.

Should we also avoid taxis from CTG airport to the walled city in favor of Uber?I have already answered this for you a few posts down.
Thanks for the information on avoiding yellow taxis inside the walled city. In many places the yellow taxis seem to have questionable reputations, including Tijuana and Bangkok. Should we also avoid taxis from CTG airport to the walled city in favor of Uber? No, there is no reason in most cases. Take a printout with your rate to your destination within the city. The rates are regulated by the municipality and are very affordable. You can access and download the rates from the alcaldia (municipality). You can't take a yellow cab out of the city limits.
Thanks for the information on avoiding yellow taxis inside the walled city. In many places the yellow taxis seem to have questionable reputations, including Tijuana and Bangkok. Should we also avoid taxis from CTG airport to the walled city in favor of Uber?Use Uber or DiDi.
You do not want to be arguing over them not having change, getting lost, suddenly increasing the price, take you to a checkpoint to get extorted by the police, or worse taking you for the million-dollar ride where they stop somewhere, and others get in the taxi to rob you. They will make a wrong turn in Crespo and you will be relieved of your items. Crespo may look safe but its not, same as Marbella and Getsemani. The police presence is not there to deter opportunistic thieves.

Thanks for the information on avoiding yellow taxis inside the walled city. In many places the yellow taxis seem to have questionable reputations, including Tijuana and Bangkok. Should we also avoid taxis from CTG airport to the walled city in favor of Uber?If you are inside the walled city and going to somewhere in the walled city, it may be difficult to find an uber or didi. And even some yellow taxi may refuse the ride. It is probably a relatively short distance, just walk it. If you are going into or outside the walled city, then yes. Didi or Uber.
Yellow taxis are +95% safe. But 95% is still to high a risk for many, especially if you don't speak Spanish.
If you DO speak Spanish at all and find yourself in an uber / didi / cab that is even a little bit sketchy, call a friend (or pretend to) and tell them you are on the way now and will be there in x minutes, that you are in a (describe car) with plate number. And / or "I will share my location with you". It is a tactic used for security by many Colombians. Important to talk to your real or imaginary friend. It's the driver knowing that others know your wearabouts.
I think this is true for taxis / uber globally. CTG is driven by tourism much more so than any other city in Colombia. This has both more people doing scams and better police reaction if something goes wrong. The booths labeled "CAI" in parks and other public areas stand for Comando de Atención Inmediata (Immediate Attention Command). They are small police stations or booths used by the National Police of Colombia to provide quick responses to emergencies and offer security in various neighborhoods. CAIs are strategically located in parks, plazas, and busy public spaces to maintain a visible law enforcement presence and ensure public safety.

Remember for the longest I wasn't getting a fee with BBVA with my capital one card while others with different cards were.
Also the limits csn be affected by which bank he had too. Davivienda would always let me take out up to 2 millones but some people report that they get a smaller limit around 400 k.
So I think it matters what bank your card is from and the fees as well as the withdrawal limits can be different amounts for different people.

Why do you think all the banks in Medellin now charge a fee for using their ATM's? It's not because they want to stick it to their customers. It's because ATM's without fees were an expense to them.

It's because ATM's without fees were an expense to them. You are right, of course, if the policy of reimbursing fees worldwide becomes an unprofitable policy it will likely be reviewed and potentially changed. But here is why they have that policy. They wish to incentivize people to have their financial assets held at Schwab. How does this benefit them? Well cash balances pay rates that are less than Schwab earns on its short term investments. But the real winner for Schwab (and others) is that stock and bond positions (mostly stocks) can be lent out to customers who are short or on margin and the margin rates Schwab charges are a big earner for them. So they love paying out less than $100 a month in ATM reimbursements to you Fun Luvr and to me and in return they are earnings high margin rates on securities they borrow from your account. I guess it depends on the size of your account. But even a very small account of around 100,000 should generate margin fees far in excess of the $100 a month they are reimbursing.
Being a financial services company, one of their objectives is to generate revenue for themselves. If one part of their operation is not making money, or is losing money, they will look to change something in that part. They may make a little on the conversion of foreign currency, but very little if so. They can't maintain a loss leader forever. Why are you being so shallow? I stated what I do as an example. I'm sure there are many other people using their debit cards in a similar manner.

It's because ATM's without fees were an expense to them.Since they've been doing for over 20 years, they have likely concluded that the goodwill is worth it. I know many people who opened Schwab accounts primarily for that reason.

If one part of their operation is not making money, or is losing money, they will look to change something in that part. Evidently they are making so much money in other areas that they are able to forego it as pertains to ATM fees. Another thing they did a couple of years ago was to stop charging on trading transactions. If I recall correctly, it used to be $8. 95 per transaction. I figure they are missing out on way more money not charging for trades than they would be for reimbursing ATM fees.

Why do you think they will stop? Schwab is a financial services company. I have been a customer for years. I use my card constantly around the world. They are not going to stop because Fun Luvr went to Colombia and all of a sudden made 10 withdrawals in 1 month.Since it is free you have guys that abuse it taking $10 out everyday for a month instead of $300 once a month. All that has to be tracked and documented. That is a cost that needs to be recouped somewhere. ATM fees keep going up and up because the machine needs filled with money, paper for receipts, and machine maintenance. Nothing free lasts forever. Think of more and more grocery stores doing away with bags (bring your own) and charging for bags. Some stores charge a quarter to use the shopping cart but the quarter is returned if you return the cart to the builing rather than leave it in the parking lot because the expense of paying a worker to round up cart all over the parking lot.
I would guess that the use of cards for overseas has increased by 5 times from 10 years ago as people learned about the few companies that offer fee free ATM cards.
Since it is free you have guys that abuse it taking $10 out everyday for a month instead of $300 once a month. I have never heard of anyone doing that, and it's silly and I doubt it's a widespread problem.
I have never heard of anyone doing that, and it's silly and I doubt it's a widespread problem.Exactlly, as a ATM user my complete is the local limits on the amount of currency you can pull out or the ATM each time.
Very first bank account I got in my life I received a ATM card. They were paying me per transaction to use the ATM. The reimbursement is not a loss for the companies that do it. Remember the ATM operator gets their fee. The company reimbursing their clients do not have to maintain a ATM network. It is a WIN / WIN / WIN and you can bet as many COP as you would like that very smart people within these companies have run the numbers and have made the decision based on what they saw.
Please don't believe the hype. Think like a capitalist, not a wage slave.

Use the Indrive app. It should not be more than 10,000 pesos. It only cost me 12,000 to go to Laguito from the airport. But cars in Colombia are small, so it may be better to get 2 cars for 4 people with luggage.
Why not use the ATM? Don't think I have ever exchanged money in Colombia in the last 20 years when there have been perfectly good ATMs around (besides BanColombia-don't use that one!I downloaded the Indrive app as suggested. It will be a bit unique to offer a fee to go somewhere, but it's an adventure.
My friend is a bit old fashioned and takes cash everywhere. He may not even have an ATM card, seriously. Based on your information though, it looks as if US credit cards are accepted in Colombia. That's good news for dining options.

I have never heard of anyone doing that, and it's silly and I doubt it's a widespread problem. It was an exaggeration. Basically people making lots of tiny dollar amount of withdrawals. That is hard to believe? Try this. Think in reverse. Someone making lots of tiny purchases with their credit card. Retail companies got tired of that so now there are minimum purchase amounts because the credit card fees were killing any profit. Many banks charge for checks now. Many banks have a maximum amount of checks you can write per month now.
If a ton of guys keep opening accounts to get free ATM usage but deposit little money or do not put money in the brokerage accounts, Schwab will most likely drop the free ATM. That is common sense. Nothing free lasts forever.
With all the super stupid things you have read, heard, and seen in your life (especially lately), how can doubt anything?
Retail companies got tired of that so now there are minimum purchase amounts because the credit card fees were killing any profit. Many banks charge for checks now. Many banks have a maximum amount of checks you can write per month now.I use my credit card at the Dollar Tree for $1. 25 plus tax all the time before I go to the gym. No minimums. I think those are against the credit card companies' policies. Saw them a few times at Indian owned stores in Reno and Las Vegas. Been in this city two years, use the card for small amounts all the time. On the checking limits, that's required by law for "money market accounts" and some other types.
However, I did notice that E-Trade now has some requirements to get the rebates. You could get it a few ways, by keeping a minimum cash balance, by having minimum total assets, by having direct deposit, maybe some other stuff.

Ten years ago, almost all the ATM's in Colombia were fee free. Now, I think all of them have a fee. Is that because the banks got greedy? If your answer is that the banks have to maintain the ATM's, well, they also had to maintain them when they were fee free.
I downloaded the Indrive app as suggested. It will be a bit unique to offer a fee to go somewhere, but it's an adventure.Download the Uber and DiDi apps. Look at them for what they charge for your trip. Then offer InDriver something less than that.

I know they make money from me and the cash I have sitting in there can easily support 10 or even 100 others so for me I am losing money vs if I try to manage it better.
The Colombian banks have figured it out. Once they found out they don't lose business by charging a fee. They raise it. They pattern fits.

The Colombian banks have figured it out. Once they found out they don't lose business by charging a fee. They raise it. They pattern fits.Fidelity and Schwab not making money on the ATM withdrawal itself, but as others have mentioned they make money off of their brokerage fees and the spread. Between buy and sell prices for securities that people purchase through their brokerage accounts.
As for traditional banks like Wells Fargo and Bank of America (who are also card issuers) they actually do make money on ATM withdrawals especially out of network or foreign ATM withdrawals. I know for a fact that wells fargo charges a set $5 usd fee per foreign withdrawal to its cardholders who make ATM withdrawals. This is on top of any fees the ATM itself charges. They also have been known to charge a 3% foreign conversion rate fee as well. So traditional banks definitely make money from ATM withdrawals as a card issuer.
Cash management / brokerage accounts such as Fidelity are not making anything off the ATM withdrawal but they are hoping you hold your securities portfolio with them and then they will make money off of your trades. They offer the ATM fee reimbursements as a perk.
I've been off in Thailand Philippines and soon to be in Indonesia and I've already been reimbursed $550 usd in ATM fees from Fidelity. And no I don't withdraw $10 at a time it's usually between $100-200 usd worth of local currency I withdraw at a time. I don't like doing the maximum as I don't feel comfortable with that much cash all at once and also I have had problems in Colombia where an ATM charged me for a withdrawal but never gave me my cash, so that is the main reason I don't do maximum.
-Gabacho.
Please explain how a company that issues the card is making money from an ATM withdrawalThere is a concept that wage slaves do not understand that business owners are very familiar with. The concept is Opportunity Costs.
The bank that issues the card, they are paying the paying the reimbursement to their customer that is using a ATM network being maintaining by someone else. Period. Full Stop! They pay this fee in order so they do not have to maintain a ATM network of their own. These are the Opportunity Costs that the issuing bank does not have to incur. Read my post previous to this one and others. The issuing bank has made a business decision to make the reimbursements. There are very smart people running the numbers. And over the last 32 years, Charles Schwab has reimbursed my ATM fees worldwide that I have incurred for my account. I have no reason whatsoever to believe that policy will change. Even if it is unprofitable it may be considered by them to be a loss leader in order to draw in more business.
Individuals need to learn the purpose of banks. Banks are not there to make individuals happy. They are there to facilitate transactions. Each transaction you make using said bank is a opportunity for them to charge a fee. They do this because they are Businesses. Businesses need to earn a profit in order to stay in business. For the individual the ATM fee is the cost of doing transactions that benefit your personal financial situation. If a ATM fee has not value to you then you need find a way to minimize them or eliminate them.
Personally, I do not see the point of complaining about the price of something in a free market system. If the ATM fees are going to make or break someone then maybe that person should put in more work in their country of origin in order to earn the money you need, before you step onto the plane to become a International Trick!
The Defense Rests!
. And over the last 32 years, Charles Schwab has reimbursed my ATM fees worldwide that I have incurred for my account. I have no reason whatsoever to believe that policy will change. Even if it is unprofitable it may be considered by them to be a loss leader in order to draw in more business. In your previous post, you said "The reimbursement is not a loss for the companies that do it." You now say it may be unprofitable. I realize "unprofitable" and "loss" are not synonymous, but it's very difficult to maintain zero sum total with expenses that vary.
Last year, Schwab's bank deposit account balances decreased by 23% while the number of bank accounts increased by 7%. Those "smart people" who are seeing this may see some red flags.
I've never said Schwab will eliminate the reimbursements. I said I wonder, with increased expenses, how long it will be until they change the reimbursements.
I've never said Schwab will eliminate the reimbursements. It's really tough to deny things you've written and published. Remember the size of a large pizza when you were a kid compared to today? I had my first Big Mac in many years and looked at the beef patty. It was so thin they must be using glue or used a hydraulic press to keep it together. The banks can not do the things that the food industry does. But nothing free lasts forever. That is common sense which very few possess nowadays. The free ATM cards will end in time. They will most likely start with limiting the number of withdrawals you can make per month and go from there.

Many Colombianas have a thing for older men of any origin, and wealthy gringos are especially appealing. Understand going into this that some will be more interested in your wallet than anything else. If you're after the physical and nothing else, understand that going in and be prepared for that dynamic else it can become expensive. But your wording suggets that isn't you.
You didn't explicitly state long term relationship or one date and done, but you did say "relationship" and "both sides of a closed door". My advice is to try a few avenues and see what's best to your liking. Most, but not all, advice on these forums are P4 P. If you want a good date including todo la noche (or amanecida) then with your desire for intelligence and English, I think you will be best with a good agency (like LaCelestina in BOG / MDE). Without experience in Colombia or Spanish, I don't think you'll find what you are looking for in Photoprepagos.com, Milleroticos, and certainly in casa, nor the zonas de tolerencias (Centro in MDE, Santa Fe in BOG, around Clocktower in CTG). You can try seeking or tinder, but my experience is there is more pros highly skilled at getting high prices there.
If you want non-pro, in Bogota visit Gringo Tuesdays -- a learning language bar only open on Tuesdays. You can either go to learn spanish or to teach english. Either at whatever level you want. For other non-pro and semi-pro, consider looking at Colombia Cupid. There are a LOT of lonely women, especially 40+, throughout the country and there are filters for education level, english, etc. On your profile, be careful what you state else you'll get catfish, gold diggers, and the like. I haven't used for a few years now, but it was an outstanding source. NONE of the women I met were pros, but all appreciated a good meal and whatever gifts I felt like giving. Quite a few refused to accept cash (though they needed it).
You will want to learn some Spanish and your future novia can help with that. If you refuse to learn spanish, the search will take longer or the price will go up. Learning about the culture will help you A LOT as well. I HIGHLY suggest the book Culture Smart: Colombia (it's a series available for many countries).
Happy hunting.
Wow! Thank you for taking the time & energy for this response. It is very useful information. I am looking for a mature woman, with an active libido, to have an ongoing relationship with. I have re-started my Spanish study and really appreciate the tip about Tuesday learning.

One important question: Is oral sex a positive thing among the non-pros?There is a whole spectrum of women available. Generally speaking, it's accepted as a normal part of a relationship. There are exceptions.
I may be flamed for this on this forum, but it is true. Colombia is a socially conservative country, particularly for middle and upper class. You will be well served to read the Culture Smart: Colombia book and what it says about family life and relationships.
Especially for a non-pro you are looking for a potentially long term relationship, you need to understand first about their family situation and then their income stability.
Family first in Colombia. This also can shape a lot of what the relationship could be like. Single mothers are the norm, in fact Colombia has one of the highest % of single mothers worldwide. It's normal for adult children to live with their adult mother, who is often responsible for the care of her parents. Knowing what her family situation is can impact what type of relationship she can have. How much time she could spend with you and if she could travel. Early on in the relationship, perhaps after a few weeks, you will be expected to meet the family. Don't take that lightly, it's a big deal and typically signals that she wants a serious relationship. Or maybe she just wants a free dinner for the family (if she invites you to go out to eat with them). While it may feel awkward for you, it's your opportunity to shine. Enjoy being the center of attention.
Knowing your GF's real economic situation is important as that can also shape the relationship. IMO, income level is not as important as income stability. The job market is incredibly difficult for mature single women unless they have been in a career or a job for a long time, so it is often the case that adult children, especially boys, support their mother financially.
You will want to know where she lives as well as that enters into the economic dynamic quickly. Often online you'll be told that they live in one area of the city when in fact they live someplace else, often a lower estrado. Don't hold that against them. If you're in a major city, offer to send an Uber for your first date and they'll share their address. You can use google street view to get a sense of the area. For some people, that's a make-or-break situation if they are from a lower class area. Others are more open minded.

ArmnHammer: to answer your question directly, war, hot open warfare has returned to Colombia and it is affecting Medellin. Gangs and paramilitaries in the barrios have imposed a curfew and even though the police and military are out in force the locals know the massive police and army presence will eventually go away leaving them vulnerable if they break the curfew.
So now you know why the streets are quiet: the locals are scared, paraphrasing your post's title, to death.
In short, the "golden age of peace" in Colombia is over and the country is returning to its historically violent roots.
Caveat emptor. Proceed at your own risk.
Those who can leave have left or are preparing to leave.
If you don't believe me, ok. But you have been duly informed and forewarned. From my understanding, the violence is centered around the major drug trafficking areas at the Venezuelan border (e. G. Catatumbo) which is troublesome but not likely to spread to places like Medellin. Essentially, it's a drug war between competing factions and not a coup / rebellion which would be more likely to spread to urban regions. This will "most likely" stay contained to the drug trafficking regions. I have a few contacts in Medellin that have referenced the events but none of them are worried about a more dangerous spread to urban regions. Either way, as StudPlayer says, you should always review your own risk profile on whether you want to visit or not.
I linked an article to give others some frame of reference so they can do further research on their own. https://www.cnn.com/2025/01/22/americas/colombia-displaced-deadly-rebel-clashes-intl-latam/index.html.

I have done attempted to do my homework on the scene here, but it still seems a little overwhelming. I'm staying at a nice airbnb in parques llera which I learned at checkout today there will be a security guard checking ID and passport at the front. Visitors allowed but no "sex tourism". Well shit, one of the reasons why I got such a nice place so close-the add did not mention security or anything about sex tourism. Was this in your contract with Airbnb? "Due to recent events in Medellin, we want to remind you that Airbnb policy strictly prohibits the use of listings for sex work and sexual tourism". I think the owners of your Airbnb are making a business decision by telling you no sex tourism. If they allow visitors, how do they know what goes on in the apartment? If the guard asks why you have a lady with you, tell him you are going to have some drinks and listen to music. It's too late now, but you should have started making friends on Facebook before arriving. I have many friends on Facebook who are happy to visit me for 250 mil. I don't know what the streetwalker price is because I don't partake of that segment. As MongerHunger posted, there's lots of information on this site, but you have to read it.
Norte de Santander, the region surrounding Cucuta and the Venezuela border area, has been a red hot zone of armed resistance and drug wars since well before, all during, and now after the famous peace accords. It's flared up again because of unwise political posturing by the armed groups and the President. As always, the most vulnerable local residents are feeling most of the pain. None of this is having significant impact in Medellin than I can notice. As the saying goes, ymmv.

The locals are fed up and the mayor has launched an all out campaign against sex tourism especially against Gringos and Europeans. They are trying to rid the city of prostitution at least when it comes foreigners. They don't really care if other Colombians do it. Airbnb occupancy have already been in decline for a year and more and more owners are not allowing working girls in for fear of the whole hotel being shut down or if a regular building being fined by police. This will severely hurt Medellin's economy as men look for other more safe and less hostile countries to monger. Additionally, gang violence is on the rise.
2 french guys were just arrested for being caught with minors a few days ago. The issue is that many young girls lie about their age and even have fake ID's. They'll tell you they are 19 or 20 and if you get caught the judges will treat you worse than Colombians who do the same. 15 years in a Colombian prison. Here's the article: https://www.ecuavisa.com/amp/mundo/dos-franceses-detenidos-en-colombia-por-explotacion-sexual-de-menores-AA8662031.

They're not into the monger scene so can't speak to that but they said, this keeps happening in the border region which is far out, unfortunately it's bad there. In MDE, life is normal. They don't have any concern about that violence spreading into the big cities, even told me to come down whenever and hang out, we're safe. So as another commenter said, 'know your risk profile'. Just thought I'd share some feedback from them. Again, they can't speak on the chica situation.

I'm old but I'm free now and pondering what places to visit. I'm not a loud music & dancing fan but certainly not opposed to some partying. Ideally I would like to find some other hobbyist to hang with and learn the ropes. Your recommendations are most welcome. If money isn't an issue join seeking.com and have a "mutual benefits" relationship. You have to have a little patience weeding through the BS but you will find what you are looking for but it won't be cheap in the USA But if you don't speak any other languages then this is your best bet. I've been doing it for years and have met some great gals and have three sugar babies presently.

All is good now. Thank you for the response.
Turns out, nothing a little propina (tip) to the guard doesn't fix. Though not even sure it was necessary as all they require is an ID. Spanish getting a little better and I'm getting a little savvier as the days go by.
I will write up a full report, but let's just say what's app is your friend with these girls and EVERYTHING is negotiable.
Thanks!

Luckily my security guard warned me about this and he has multiple ways of checking for real ID. The tip I give helps assure this. That being said, I am not ignorant. I understand there is a level of risk just being here, let alone partaking in the amenities.

This will severely hurt Medellin's economy as men look for other more safe and less hostile countries to monger. Additionally, gang violence is on the rise.I think it's a bit overblown. There is nothing "all-out" about the campaign; Parque Lleras is literally completely open for business. Prostitution in Medellin is here to stay. Many can argue it is now the lifeblood of tourism to that area, but there is a disturbing truth we need to understand; there are a lot of men who are coming to Medellin to engage in underage prostitution. For a long time, Medellin has been known for very lax standards in this area. There are many countries with vibrant, raucous sex tourism scenes that are much better at policing that sort of sick stuff and it is my belief that Medellin is going through the growing pain of trying to control all of that. We have seen countless times over the past decade about supposed crackdowns on prostitution that amount to nothing but a few arrests of mongers who are engaging in egregious underage prostitution. It's really not that different than places like Rio where you have girl-friendly hotels and ones that aren't. Attacking AirBnb is logical but I would also say that places like Energy Living have tons of listing that claim "no sex tourism" while allowing it because they have the guards checking IDs. Things are getting restricted, but it didn't really feel that crazy to me. I'd be more worried if you saw a long-term shut down of Lleras or other sex hubs that lasts longer than a month or two.
I think it's a bit overblown. There is nothing "all-out" about the campaign; As someone who speak Spanish and talks to locals every day and watches the news I can tell you without a doubt that the hate people in Medellin have for tourists right now is at an all time high. In Thailand and the Philippines, the locals welcome you with open arms, and you don't have to be worried about getting drugged or robbed by locals who rejoice when gringos are murdered. Yes there are tolerated zones that are propped up because some businesses fought back but the general sentiment among local is disgust and resentment.
It's not just 'no sex tourists' signs at the airport or airbnbs. It's not just the mayor making speeches practically every week vowing to stop gringos. It is now a deep source of frustration for the locals who are blaming all of the gentrification on foreigners whether it has to do with them or not. The hatred that locals have for foreigners is what allows them to drug and kill tourists without remorse. I'm so tired of people on youtube who want you to sign up for their Patreon and others on these forms that completely downplay the negatives. Tell the truth, let people make their own informed decisions. If this form was honest, every other post would be a story about somebody getting robbed or drugged because it literally happens every day in this city.
2 major streamers just got drugged on stream and people only know about it because it happened on camera. Thats daily life in the city.

The hatred that locals have for foreigners is what allows them to drug and kill tourists without remorse. You talk as if it is the everyday citizen that is drugging and killing folks. We all know it is not and a tourist that is not picking up hookers has pretty much zero chance of being drugged. Every story of someone being drugged starts off with some chicks (99% strangers) and drinking (100%.
I'm so tired of people on youtube who want you to sign up for their Patreon and others on these forms that completely downplay the negatives. This begs the question why do you even keep watching it? You seem to already know everything anyway. I have lived in Pattaya for 16 years and something I have never watched is a youtuber talking about Pattaya. Maybe the youtubers that you say are downplaying the negatives are smart enough not to get entrapped in the negatives and figure their viewers are as well.
It seems unlikely any of us are acquainted with enough people and what they are thinking to know what the "locals point of view" is. In a city of more than 2 million people it's just not realistic and that doesn't even account for the factor of individual circumstances. My personal opinion is anyone who takes pleasure in the death or misfortune of other people has emotional struggles to overcome. My advice is to not spend time and energy getting caught up in it. Conduct yourself respectably, engage with women honorably exercise reasonable caution, and you will have done what you could and should do to ensure good times. It's a slippery slope to be focused on what ifs and what abouts.
If you know people that rejoice and have no remorse when foreigners are murdered then you should reconsider the company you keep. Also, you don't seem too concerned about it yourself. By your own statements, it's almost like you don't have any concerns about their actions and you don't even show a bit of sympathy towards the victims. It's like you understand the locals point of view. Just an observation Bud.
Conduct yourself respectably, engage with women honorably exercise reasonable caution, and you will have done what you could and should do to ensure good times. If I took your advice I would never get laid! My conduct is reprehensible, I engage with dishonorable **** women, and exercise whenever I can. Thank you for your advice, Father.

I've assimilated into the community, and the recent campaign against gringos for the acts of a very, very tiny few has convinced many Colombians, and I would argue the majority of Paisas in Medellin that most men who come here are complete degenerate and are tuning their city. If you don't believe me, and are committed to self-denial, then just go on Twitter, and search the words, "gringos Colombia". And I guarantee you, within just a few minutes, you will see 100's, if not 1000's of tweets of Colombians calling gringos who visit Colombia the most despicable things you can call any human being. There is your proof, don't take my word for it. I suspect that since the mayor of Medellin has created such a nasty reputation of foreigners coming that the Colombians will retaliate in a pretty serious way soon.

Of course, who knows how Colombia might choose to respond or how things might shape up. I won't be surprised if Colombia backs down: https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/5107673-trump-tariffs-colombia-deportation-flights/amp/.

Probably not until Colombia imposes paid visa requirement like the new president did with many other countries. But look at Brazil which is not looking too good and Brazil is a far larger and much more developed country.
I definitely do not know the city like you. Your circle of friends and Twitter are as definitive as sources you apparently need to draw your conclusions. I respect that. Assimilated or not, I will carry on doing what makes me happy here. I hope you will do the same.

I'm not going to pretend to understand the phenomenon. We've all seen it for years on this web site. There is a doom and gloom focused perspective that seems to lie in wait for any current events that can spike the fear factor. I feel like we are all responsible to help each other by reasoning with each other. I make an honest effort but I don't insist. I try to stick to the facts so we can make informed decisions for ourselves. Everyone be safe and have fun.

Hobo3 (aka KZ I believe) you are totally right and everyone would be wise to heed your advice and perspective.
To the nice obviously well-to-do families one sees walking on calle 10, please heed good advice and go to Aruba.
Medellin is no place to bring your children or your pretty wife.
Anyone who has seen the cultured men populating calle 10 these days knows that elegant gringos have turned medellin into mierda (sxxt), just as Hobo alludes to.
Oh well, things go up and things go down. And for now things are going down down down much like the dollar exchange rate these last days.
Quite curious really in light of the fact hot open warfare in now enveloping the country and massive waves of refugees are on the streets and highways everywhere you look.
Anyone else been out and about recently these days?
Looks like syria, Afghanistan, ukraine and gaza all rolled into one.
People everywhere, foreigners and locals alike, are preparing for the worst.
There is palpable tension in the air of Colombia these last days and weeks.
A really sad state of affairs and a lot of human suffering not to mention loss of life happening now throughout all parts of Colombia.
So come on down now fine gentlemen, all this suffering means you will get your rocks off cheap with the few sub par chicas which still remain in Colombia.
And you might even live to tell about it.
Once again, I tell you, you now find the young good looking colombian chicas outside of Colombia.
Look for them in harems in dubai and other similarly wealthy countries.
There is even a mosque here recruiting chicas and flying them out daily.
That is why they got the daily flight from Bogota to dubai now.
And if you don't believe me, ok. Look at the flight schedule for yourself.
As always, be careful and make good decisions.

Trump said he would put a travel ban on people coming from Colombia to the US, and place a 25% tariff on all products coming from Colombia, raising it to 50% after one week. Petro blinked and said he will send his Presidential plane to pick up the Colombians. He said the reason he refused entry of the planes was because the Colombians on board were mistreated.I wish it were only the allegation of Colombians being mistreated. https://peoplesdispatch.org/2025/01/26/gustavo-petro-responds-to-trump-overthrow-methe-americas-and-humanity-will-respond/.
Here is what Petro said:
Trump, I don't like traveling to the USA Much, it's a bit boring, but I confess there are worthy things. I like to go to the Black neighborhoods of Washington. There, I saw a whole fight in the capital of the USA Between Blacks and Latinos, with barricades, which seemed to me like nonsense, because they should unite.
I confess that I like Walt Whitman, Paul Simon, Noam Chomsky, and Miller.
I confess that Sacco and Vanzetti, who have my blood, in the history of the USA, are memorable and I follow them. They were murdered for being labor leaders with the electric chair by the fascists who are inside the USA Just as they are in my country.
I don't like your oil, Trump, you are going to end the human species with greed. Maybe one day, along with a drink of whiskywhich I accept despite my gastritiswe can talk frankly about this, but it's difficult because you consider me an inferior race, and I am not, nor is any Colombian.
So if you are looking for a stubborn person, that's me, period. You can try to stage a coup with your economic power and arrogance, like you did with Allende. But I will die by my law, I withstood torture, and I resist you. I don't want slave owners on Colombia's side, we already had many and we freed ourselves. Who I want to be on Colombia's side are lovers of freedom. If you can't join me, I will go elsewhere. Colombia is the heart of the world, and you didn't understand it. This is the land of the yellow butterflies, the beauty of Remedios, but also of Colonel Aureliano Buenda, one of whom I am, perhaps the last.
You will kill me, but I will survive in my town, which came before yours, in the Americas. We are peoples of the winds, the mountains, the Caribbean Sea, and freedom.
You don't like our freedom, fine. I do not shake hands with white slave owners. I shake the hands of libertarian whites, heirs of Lincoln, and of the Black and white rural boys from the USA, in front of whose graves I cried and prayed on a battlefield, which I reached after walking through the mountains of Tuscany and after saving myself from COVID.
They are the US, and before them, I kneel, before no one else.
Overthrow me president, and the Americas and humanity will respond.
Colombia, now stop looking to the north, look to the world, our blood comes from the blood of the Caliphate of seerdoba, the civilization of that time, from the Roman Latins of the Mediterranean, the civilization of that time, who founded the republic, democracy in Athens; our blood carries the resistant Black people who were turned into slaves by you. In Colombia lies the first free territory of the Americas, before Washington, of all the Americas, I take refuge there in their African songs.
My land is of the goldsmiths that existed in the time of the Egyptian pharaohs, and of the first artists in the world in Chiribiquete.
You will never dominate us. The warrior who rode our lands, shouting freedom, and who is called Bolvar, opposes you.
Our peoples are somewhat fearful, somewhat shy, they are naive and kind, lovers, but they will know how to win back the Panama Canal, which you took from us with violence. Two hundred heroes from all over Latin America lie in Bocas del Toro, now Panama, before Colombia, whom you murdered.
I raise a flag, and as Gaitand said, even if I am alone, it will remain raised with Latin American dignity, which is the dignity of America, which your great-grandfather didn't know, but mine did, Mr. President, immigrant in the US.
Your blockade does not scare me because Colombia, in addition to being the country of beauty, is the heart of the world. I know you love beauty as I do, don't disrespect it, and it will offer you its sweetness.
Colombia FROM NOW ON FACES THE WHOLE WORLD, WITH OPEN ARMS, WE ARE BUILDERS OF FREEDOM, LIFE, AND HUMANITY.
I have been informed that you impose a 50% tariff on the fruit of our human labor to enter the US, I will do the same.
Let our people plant corn, which was discovered in Colombia, and feed the world.

Petro blinked and said he will send his Presidential plane to pick up the Colombians. This is from Trump on Truth Social:
Petro's denial of these flights has jeopardized the National Security and Public Safety of the United States, so I have directed my Administration to immediately take the following urgent and decisive retaliatory measures:
Emergency 25% tariffs on all goods coming into the United States. In one week, the 25% tariffs will be raised to 50%.
-A Travel Ban and immediate Visa Revocations on the Colombian Government Officials, and all Allies and Supporters.
-Visa Sanctions on all Party Members, Family Members, and Supporters of the Colombian Government.
-Enhanced Customs and Border Protection Inspections of all Colombian Nationals and Cargo on national security grounds.
-IEEPA Treasury, Banking and Financial Sanctions to be fully imposed.
These measures are just the beginning.
End of link.
So yeah, Petro has blinked. There is no doubt about that. There is no indication Trump has backed off though, and I am not sure after the way Petro mouthed off, he is going to.
I know we have Democrats here who hate Trump and no doubt love what Petro said and did. That is fine. You are Americans and entitled to your opinion. You are not president of Colombia and your job is not to put the interests of the Colombian people first like his is. How does Petro saying Trump is a slave owner help Colombia? How does telling Trump he is going to end the human species help Colombia?
So I hope that Trump lets this go. He has a lot on his plate. But OTOH, people have stated they think Trump is bluffing on tariffs, and he might want to make an example of Colombia, and part of Trump must be thinking am I going to let this Petro asshole get away with mouthing off like this?
And like I said, Trump has not rescinded the tariffs. And if Trump keeps them imposed, is Petro gong to retaliate with travel bans? I hope not.
And of all the hills to die on, Petro chose to stand up for a bunch of criminals. You cannot make this shit up.

Petro blinked and said he will send his Presidential plane to pick up the Colombians. He said the reason he refused entry of the planes was because the Colombians on board were mistreated. This is a case of the easy way versus the hard way. You can not be an uninvited guest in someone's house and complain about how they go about putting you out. I think it was the Brazilian minister saying something about dignity. Where was that speech when they were overstaying visas and paying the Mexican cartel $200/ person to let them pass? Now that your ass is busted, people are supposed to bend over backwards making things comfortable. If you would have left the easy way then maybe you could have expected comfort and dignity.
P.S. How would he have known how the people on board were treated if the plane had not even landed?

BREAKING: President Trump said he is placing tariffs, a travel ban and other measures after the government rejected two planes carrying migrants, and the country's president said he would prohibit USA Deportation flights entry.
The Medellin authorities and residents will like this. No more gringos in Medellin. Puta prices will plummet.Much ado about nothing.
The politicians fixed it already.
Trump said he would put a travel ban on people coming from Colombia to the US, and place a 25% tariff on all products coming from Colombia, raising it to 50% after one week. Petro blinked and said he will send his Presidential plane to pick up the Colombians. He said the reason he refused entry of the planes was because the Colombians on board were mistreated.I thought it was the other way around. A ban on people coming from Colombia to the US makes no sense; Colombian tourists who travel to the US are mostly wealthy Colombians whose expenditure there contribute to the US economy. What would hurt Colombia more is a ban on American tourists going to Colombia.

What would hurt Colombia more is a ban on American tourists going to Colombia. The short-lived ban wasn't even on Colombian tourists per se. It was on Colombian government officials. And don't be fooled. Plenty of Colombians who can't be described as "wealthy" visit the United States and other countries. Often remaining illegally! In any event, no way can Colombia win a trade war with the States. They need us far more than we need them. I called this one right with a Colombian capitulation.

Almost any bit of news involving Colombia gets hyped into an apocalyptic crisis on this website. The predictability of it is laughable.
Much ado about nothing.

I thought Trump announced the visas of Petro and other Colombian government officials were pulled. That's not quite the same as banning travel across the board.

Much ado about nothing.
The politicians fixed it already.Yeah, but I am not sure if it would have been if the American media had taken what Petro said and publicized it. In the past, they took every chance they could to demonize Trump, and it was nice to see them act responsibly. So kudos to them.
Trump drew up the paperwork of the sanctions he outlined against Colombia but did not sign them. So in essence, he is keeping a loaded gun at Petro's head. So things will be fine as long as Petro does not say or do anything stupid again and hopefully, he won't. I do not have much faith though that he will stay rational.
Petro tried to follow the Hugo Chavez way of controlling government. Unlike Chavez, his attempts to take over the Colombian Congress and Judiciary failed. In the past, Chavez would give like these three hour long speeches where all he would do is insult GW Bush.
I am a big Trump supporter but I will admit one of his issues is he is thin skinned though he seems to be getting better with that. I think he handled this situation beautifully, and I hope he continues to blow off what Petro says. Obviously, what he says should not be taken seriously.
Hobo3 (aka KZ I believe) you are totally right and everyone would be wise to heed your advice and perspective.
Thank you at least somebody's being honest. It's actually quite impressive the ignorance of many mongers. If there is political turmoil, massive killing, and starvation or a trade war the first thing on their mind is "will the working girls lower their prices?" There could be serial killers in Colombia hunting gringos and some of these clowns will say 'now's my chance!' The mayor of Medellin anti-gringo sentiments will eventually impact tourism and these new tensions with Trump will scare investors. The most beautiful Colombians get scooped up and offered jobs in Dubai and Europe as practical sex slaves. Add the consistent robberies and druggings, Medellín is on the decline no matter how many people come to tell you that everything is perfectly fine.

I know we have Democrats here who hate Trump and no doubt love what Petro said and did. Nah, I hate Trump, but Petro has no good argument here. 'Our citizens were mistreated so we're going to force them to stay outside our country where they're being mistreated'? Not to mention the basic stance of not accepting the return of your own citizens who have illegally immigrated. I don't like hostility between the two nations though, definitely makes me less likely to visit as an obvious gringo due to skin color and limited Spanish.

Not only that, he said "migrants aren't criminals". It's this kind of thinking that's part of the problem. You see because if a migrant breaks the laws of another nation, including the immigration laws, then that migrant is indeed a criminal! We need to get tougher on people (and the the countries they flow through) to stem the tide. Illegals want to act like they haven't done anything wrong, and words like Petro's do nothing to help the situation. People like Preto should spend more time creating solid economic opportunities for their people so they don't desire to leave their countries and illegally immigrate to mine.

Apparently, Colombians are being put at the back of the line in Florida customs per her and being verbally grilled.
Some are saying Petro was drunk when he posted what he did. That would make sense.
It will be interesting to see what happens to guys entering Colombia now and how we are treated.
But it does look like the knives are coming out for him. I hope our trips to Colombia stay smooth. As you did I too have lived in Colombia with my Colombian girlfriend and family so we have an insight with current public opinion in current day Bogota. I knew from day one not to expect any co-operation from Petro, with the USA? He's a known FARC member, a socialist who dedicated his life to overthrow the Colombian government. Most of his ministers are past FARC members, Petro aligns his policies more with Venezuela and Cuba than with the USA.
I have had many conversations with Rolos. (University students not-withstanding they pretty much got Petro elected.) And almost 100% of them want Petro gone! If Petro continues to square up against the USA and it costs the country lots of help from the states it won't go over very well. As you know Colombians have no problem organizing large protests.

I hope our trips to Colombia stay smooth.I arrived Friday evening. The immigration officer was the same as always, very fast processing and no questions. The baggage inspection person was different. She asked if I was traveling alone, and I told her I was. She then asked "You have two bags for one person? I told her yes. She then asked how much money I was carrying. I told her I had pesos that equaled about 3 thousand USD. I had taken a chance with getting pesos during my last trip when the exchange rate was more than 4400/1. She then called to a guy and he took me to a little room and counted the pesos and filled out a form. Then they told me I could go, without even scanning my bags. That type of questioning had never happened before, and I have made many trips to Medellin.

Not untypical. And in any society it would be out of the ordinary to carry 3 k in cash. Typically for non run of the mill cash amounts coming in the cash is quickly counted to ensure you're honest and not carrying more than $10 k and you're on your way.

Just flew back through Miami. No difference than usual. Colombians weren't being singled out and I think maybe your girl may have been exaggerating for some reason? There are 3 lines: global entry, us citizens and non citizens. No one was going through the non citizen line pulling people out, etc. There was also no line specifically for any target country. Additionally global entry is still available for Colombian citizens. Maybe something your girl may want to do if she visits regularly.
As for entering Colombia I also see no difference. You're either staying there for the allowed 90 days or whatever the number is or not and you either have cash funds to cover that stay or not and you have a return flight booked with a hotel or your accommodation address provided as done through checkmig. Not here to argue about the checkmig. I get it that some people don't do it. Get it that the website is glitchy af. I just do it anyways because why not. If you don't want to do it then good for you. No different than usual. In addition there are only 3 lines at immigration. Colombianos, non citizens and diplomats / flight crew and no lines singling out specific countries.
All in all to summarize. Business as usual.

Typically for non run of the mill cash amounts coming in the cash is quickly counted to ensure you're honest and not carrying more than $10 k and you're on your way.It was untypical because in more than 50 times entering Colombian, I had never been asked either question. When they had the paper immigration form and now on the Check-mig form, there's a question asking if you are carrying more than $10,000 USD or equivalent. I had never been asked how much I was carrying. I had never been asked why I had a number of bags.

I can agree that the purpose of customs is to check what comes into a country, but those people didn't check my bags. They didn't even put my bags through the scanner. I don't recall ever being asked how much money I was carrying, only if I was carrying over a certain amount. I vaguely remember Costa Rican customs asking how much I planned to spend or how much I spent.
Please show a customs form that asks for the amount of amount you are carrying.

Please show a customs form that asks for the amount of amount you are carrying. You are splitting hairs. Are you carrying over a certain amount and how much are you carrying are pretty much the same question. One is open end and one is closed end. It is like if they asked you to write your last name first, you would argue but my last name is not my first name so it should not go first.

The issue was thrust into the public eye by a series of investigative reports from Atlanta News First which "uncovered how drug agents have been seizing anything over $5,000 if airline passengers can't prove on the spot that their own money didn't come from drug trafficking. ".
The program used civil asset forfeiture to allow DEA agents to seize cash if the passenger was suspected of carrying illicit funds tied to the drug trade. The onus was then put on the passenger to prove it was not drug money, to get the funds back.
In addition, most airport seizures did not result in criminal prosecutions. DEA even paid one airline employee tens of thousands of dollars in proceeds from cash seized as a result of tips.
End of link.
FL, in the future, I would not carry that much cash through. If you had more money on you, even a legal amount under $10,000, the agents may have kept it.

I have never lied on this site. I have been saying for over 1 year that it is not mandatory to do that checkmig. How many people have not done the checkmig since then and have had no problem entering Colombia? Give bullshit information is something that I do not do sir.

I have been asked once or twice how much money I had on me way before any of this happened. And Jack Taggart has had it happen. And Mr. E says not only has it happened to him, he knows people in customs where it has happened.
Some people on here are antagonists and are almost always proclaiming their way is the right way or finding faults with a post. Why you are virtue signaling at the same time you are talking about banging hookers and drinking like a fish is beyond me.
The reason I told you what I did is that I do not want your money taken from you or from anyone here. What was going on was theft, plain and simple. Charging your money with a potential crime is bullshit. Why the legislatures, Congress, and courts have allowed this to happen is beyond me. IMO it is clearly a 4th amendment violation.

I have been in and out of Colombia Gazillion times in the last 14 or so years. I can't remember ever being asked how much cash I have with me. On entry I am rarely directed to the x-ray machine of my bags. My girlfriend of Bogota is a very serious STEM major in the Nat'l University with a 4. 6 GPA. She quickly got approved for a 10 year visa and She never gets questioned and depending on the arrival airport she sometimes just breezes thru the Kiosk. One time I was bringing back a friend from Costa Rica who has a questionable past was sent to secondary.
My personable opinion is when they scan your passport on arrival to Colombia or on my return home in the States. Only basic questions, reason for travel, how many days and welcome home! When they scan your passport they ALREADY know 90 % about you. So never lie because they will know it.

How can she have a 4. 6 GPA when the maximum GPA is a 4. 0?The maximum where? It depends on the place. Some people have grade ranges from 0 to 5. Maybe her system is on a 5 point scale.
Also, it has been a very long time, but I remember being in high school and the AP classes weighing more than the regular classes. So it was possible to have over a 4. 0 GPA.

Remember when I said I did not wish for your money to be taken from you? I take that back. When you are carrying four figures of cash in your pocket, make sure to tell customs all about it and make sure you are honest about the reason for your being in Colombia and describe in vivid detail all the women you fucked. In fact, it is best if you show them pictures of all the women you banged in the most graphic of details because when it comes to talking to customs, honesty is the best policy.
And it is a crime to lie to customs so make sure that you tell them the truth, the whole truth.

Thanks for your insight Bro.I for one appreciate that you admit your mistake and would just ask that you learn further by realizing you made the mistake because it's all Yew Ess all the time in your mind. 4.0 vs 5.0 is just another example of the metric system's innate superiority, for example. As Celsius is superior to Fahrenheit, etc.
They do not have to ask you verbatim. There are different ways of asking the same question, just like a personality test. I have been asked many times how much money I was carrying. I even have friends who US Customs have made count their money in the jetway as they were leaving the country.
I have never lied on this site. I have been saying for over 1 year that it is not mandatory to do that checkmig. How many people have not done the checkmig since then and have had no problem entering Colombia? Give bullshit information is something that I do not do sir.
I also can not state with any accuracy how many times I have entered a foreign country and gone through Customs, but with 2 valid US passports (one that has only 4 pages left and is still valid until 2030), I can assure you that it is much more than 100 in only the last few years.I think at some point in the past it "might" have been mandatory to do the checkmig. My ex wife got refused to proceed with her check in (USA to MDE) a couple of years ago until she went online, did it and then showed the lady at the ticket counter. I lived there for 10 years and only remember doing checkmig after moving back to the states in 2021. She didn't do it for her last trip a few weeks ago and said it wasn't necessary anymore.
But a few trips ago she was still doing it and somehow she got on a semi scam website that just fills your info out and submits it to checkmig for x amount of dollars. Her CC got declined for some reason (should have taken that as a sign) so I used mine, then later found out the website wasn't affiliated with the gov of Colombia and that Colombia doesn't even charge for checkmig. Did a charge back and they didn't dispute it but also kind of my fault for not being more careful.

https://www.fedagent.com/news/deas-civilian-airport-search-and-seizure-program-suspended-after-ig-advisoryThe issue was thrust into the public eye by a series of investigative reports from Atlanta News First which "uncovered how drug agents have been seizing anything over $5,000 if airline passengers can't prove on the spot that their own money didn't come from drug trafficking. ".The program used civil asset forfeiture to allow DEA agents to seize cash if the passenger was suspected of carrying illicit funds tied to the drug trade. The onus was then put on the passenger to prove it was not drug money, to get the funds back.In addition, most airport seizures did not result in criminal prosecutions. DEA even paid one airline employee tens of thousands of dollars in proceeds from cash seized as a result of tips.End of link.FL, in the future, I would not carry that much cash through. If you had more money on you, even a legal amount under $10,000, the agents may have kept it.That report also highlighted that some of those LE were just regular cops, not DEA. The confiscated money went to sheriffs dept. 's, etc. I have to pay my friggin rent in cash in Cali! Nice building but it must be a big ole washer! I make sure I have my currency exchange receipt with me when I bring big money.

Delta has asked me in the past did you do the Check-mig, say yes and your good to go. But I've been on some flights and the agent at check in wants to see it before they would proceed. However as time passes on its seems less and less important. It's been a few years since I've been asked for it on arrival in Colombia.

It's been a few years since I've been asked for it on arrival in Colombia.Well, it used to be an issue that I could not get a boarding pass on line before a flight because airline needed to see the check MIG. I think the last time I was asked for this by Colombian agents was like 2 years ago. It was like 6 to 9 months ago with the airlines. So if the airlines are willing to give me a boarding pass, I do not worry about the check MIG.
I had not flown back to the USA since Trump got in office until recently. I have Global Entry and it was different. The agent held my passport and told me to get in a long line. I asked another person in the line if he had been through this before, and he too said he had not. No one told us what was going on. You just waited in this line until eventually your name is called. I would guess I was in line for like 45 minutes. My name was called and I was put in a group of 4 and we were asked if we had anything to declare. After that, your carry on and regular suitcase were put through a scanner. Then the agents give you your passport back, and you are on your way.
I am hoping this is just a one time thing where border agents were told to make extra sure people are not illegally entering our country. I hope once you get through this enhanced investigation the old rules apply. The agents were nice and respectful as were all the people in line.
Still, though, until this is known, if you have global entry, I would give yourself an extra hour to factor in when you go through customs. I had five hours between connections so it was no big deal, but if it were two, it would have been cutting it really close.

Hey where did Colombia go?
No reports for many days now. What gives?
Did all the business people go bankrupt and stop churning the board?
I tried to tell everyone, earn dollars and spend pesos.
Did all the tourists get killed, scoped or scared of the erupting wars throughout the country?
You were all duly forewarned.
Did the exchange rate price everyone out of the country?
Or has everyone decided that yes Studplayer was right and the best Colombianas are in harems in the arab world now?
Gabacho is the last one left still all hyped up on Colombia with his videos.
Gabacho, you are way late to the party. Everyone has moved on.
What is really funny is in his videos promoting Colombia as party central, Gabacho is surrounded by men men men and he is diggin it.
Truly hilarious.
What happened? Like everything they touch, gringos ruined it.
Anyway, here is the latest news from Colombia: Colombia is passe, yesterday's flavor, over, kaput.
When you get the number of gringas coming down to Colombia like you now see, you know the game is over.
And you got to feel sorry for the young families with young kids who could have gone to Aruba and actually have seen a Colombiana.
Dad is looking for the young chicas which are nowhere to be found on the street anymore and Mom is looking for a nice sandy beach.
And here is a llittle extra insight for everyone: Colombia has become a major gay and lesbian destination.
If you open your eyes, alll you see are men men men everywhere on the streets and almost no chicas.
So here is a hint where is next:
Sayonara.

Either you have me confused with someone else or someone else must be using my name because I don't make any videos at all, let alone video promoting Colombia as a "party central" and I'm not on YouTube or TikTok or any place else where you might have seen these videos.
And how was I way late to the party? I've been going to Colombia since 2018 when I started going to Bogota.
And I'm definitely not surrounded by men men men. Where the hell are you getting this from? LOL.
If you actually followed my posts you would know that I have spread my wings and started exploring new places. I have posted extensively about my new experiences in Thailand, Philippines, and Indonesia.
In fact I have a plethora of posts about a super brothel in Jakarta called Classic where I spent 2 months and probably about $3 k usd in the last 2 months of 2024. Matter of Fact Classic blows anything in Medellin out of the water by a mile. Not even your overpriced Loutron, Isla or Gustos can compare to Classic. Imagine one brothel with over 200+ Asian women 18-25 years old and you can bareback CIP them all (well most of them anyways) for like $30 usd a pop. Then you take the elevator upstairs to the 5th floor and there is a whole nother brothel with like 50+ more women same price. And this is all inside a hotel with multiple bars are restaurants too all enclosed and air conditioned. And that's just one place of which there are many places with a similar set up including Travel and Kotah Inda Complex and literally hundreds of smaller "casa" type places spread out in a Metropolitan area of more than 30 million people.
So I don't know whose videos you saw but they damn sure weren't mine.
Gabacho.
I arrived in Orlando from Medellin (through Panama) Sunday evening. Everything was as it was in previous trips at immigration, a few questions about the purpose of travel and what I was bringing back. Terminal C (where almost all international flights arrive) at the Orlando airport is the poorest design of almost any airport I've traveled through. It's approximately a one half mile walk from an arriving gate to baggage claim, almost all an uphill grade. There are no elevators or moving walkways. It was about 45 minutes from the time the plane was parked at the gate until bags started arriving at baggage claim. The irony is, that is a new terminal. It's only been open for about a year.

Thursday, no one ask for the Check-mig going or coming. I sat next to an American woman back from Bogota and and she said last flight a month ago, entering FLL the entire plane was funneled into a room and every single person was subjected to secondary search. This trip. Nothing! Normal 3 questions and welcome back. I have around 30 plus Colombia stamps in my passport and it never seems to cause me any static. Just goes to show you, they already know everything about you before you arrive.

It's only been open for about a year.I have never had that long of a walk, but I have never flown Copa to Orlando. I am gold on spirit and prefer Orlando to Lauderdale. The Lauderdale terminal that Spirit is in does not have that much in the way of amenities. Also, Lauderdale has at times been so overwhelmed with people that passengers have been forced to sit on the plane until the lines shrink. Longest time was 30 minutes, and that was a while ago.
It is not like the agents at Lauderdale are so bad. It is just that Orlando is such a tourist town I think the agents are forced to be a lot more welcoming. They are way more pleasant. The waiting time for bags IMO is about the same. Thing is when you have a layover Orlando has way more shops and restaurants open to all. The problem with the Miami and Lauderdale is some of the best restaurants and shops are in terminals you cannot get to, and Miami is the airport that is so big I had to walk seemingly forever.
LatAM has a nonstop to Cartagena through Atlanta. I may try them next time just to mix things up.
Just got back, JFK to CTG round trip.
There for no email about checkMIG, no one asked at bag drop or at the gate.
On arrival getting through immigration was a nightmare, 3 hours standing in the line. Apparently 2 planes landed in front of mine then 2 more behind mine. At first there were 5 agents working then down to 4. The line was so long it wrapped around all the way where they usually have the Cartagena ATV tour billboard sized AD back down to the bathroom, outside the airport and down the walkway. Once we cleared immigration mostly everyone was pissed, there was no Don Julio in Duty Free. Everyone was looking for it.
On the way back it took about an hour to get through the line. BioMIG and people failure to follow instructions!
They had 2 agents working the booth and I believe 4 agents working the bioMIG. I don't understand why people could not understand, scan the passport, wait, punch in the flight number, wait, move your face close enough so the camera can take a picture of your eyes (not your face, just the eyes), wait, then proceed when the gate opens. This shit was taking 10 minutes a person because they couldn't understand the picture of the eyes part. And what kills me is that they were on the line watching people do it making mistakes and they get up to the machines and repeat the same mistakes.
There was an email about contact tracing but I just ignored it.

I was too close. An agent assisted me and told me to move further back from the camera. That worked, but I moved away after the first snap of the camera. That was not good. I had to go through the complete procedure again, and stayed in front of the camera until it turned green. The camera snapped two or three times.

On the way.
Thursday, no one ask for the Check-mig going or coming.Man for the past year I have been saying on here that I have not filled that checkmig out.
Spirit and United airlines will ask for it if you are flying out of Newark for sure. It takes less than 30 seconds to fill it out. What is the big deal?

Spirit and United airlines will ask for it if you are flying out of Newark for sure. It takes less than 30 seconds to fill it out. What is the big deal?If the website worked consistently it wouldn't be such a big deal. About 30 percent of the time the website doesn't work. Colombian websites in general are just shit.
I travel to Medellin just about every 2 months for the past 6 years (except during the pandemic). There have been some outages but not to the extend some make it sound.
It takes me 20 seconds to fill it out once I have my flight info and passport at hand. I never had a situation where I could not access it before my flight.
Spirit and United will check and not let you board at least out of Newark, They asked me for it late January.
A child can fill it out, it is that simple.

I take spirit all the time and they haven't asked me for a few years now. I fly them about 3 times a year to Bogota. Anpther data point. Take it for what you will.

A child can fill it out, it is that simple. The problem was never with filling it out. The problem was it never working. And if this many people had problems with something that was supposed to be mandatory then there is no excuse. The reliability of the site is probably why they stopped making it mandatory. I go to Colombia often and more times than not I had to screenshot where it went wrong so I could show it was not me not filling it out, but the site that was on the fritz.
I can only tell you that Spirit and United require it coming out of Newark. If the readers don't want to take the 20 seconds to fill out the form, it is up to them. They can always tell the airline check-in that Mr. Enternational said it wasn't required.

It appears Davivienda ATMs change the exchange rate at maybe 5 pm. Yesterday, I withdrew from the ATM at 5:17 pm and the exchange rate was 4387.94. That was strange because the Visa rate was 4374.53. Today I withdrew at 1:41 pm and the rate was the same as yesterday, 4387.94. Today's Visa rate is 4387.98. I'm guessing they change at 5 pm, but it may be some time before that.
