You can stay up to 90 days if you are a US citizen without a visa.Actually you can stay no more than 180 days in a calendar year without a VISA. You normally get a stamp for 60 days on arrival. You can get 30-day extensions at the local DAS office.

There are many kinds of VISAs including retirement. The Rentista VISA is the easiest to get. You need to get the first Rentista VISA outside of Colombia.

Tom

What's a rentista visa?It is a VISA granted to, among other nationalities, US citizens who have an income of US$2000 per month or US$24,000 in cash or stock. The dollar amounts may be a little higher now. The VISA is granted for one year and can be renewed in Colombia with proof of income or assets.

Likewise, I have only ever been to Bogota and the surrounding area, never been past Melgar, but from what I've seen first-hand.

There are sizeable communities in Bogota of Brazilians and Cubans, plus LOTS of people from Ecuador, Venezuela, Argentina, etc. And there are whole areas of town inhabited by almost nothing but Paisas, other areas inhabited by almost nothing but Costeños, others almost entirely by Vallunos, others by Boyacos etc. Not to mention out of the 3 million people that have been displaced in Colombia over the past 50 years at LEAST 50% of them have wound up in Bogota.

And BTW Facebook is MASSIVE in Colombia, just like Orkut is in Brazil. And as far as I'm concerned the average Rolo is more progressive minded in many ways than the average New Yorker or Angelino even.Bango Cheito,

Bogota is the exception, not the rule. Based on your own comments above, you know little or nothing about Colombia outside of Bogota. That's fine, but you should have stated that originally.

It would be an error to generalize about American culture based on experiences limited to New York City. Likewise, generalizations about Colombia cannot be made by people whose experiences are limited to Bogota.

Bogota is the exception, not the rule.

Again, Colombians of any age do not use matchmaking services of any kind to meet other Colombians. There are no fraternities/sororities at Colombian universities. There are no dating agencies for busy young professional adults in Colombia.

Matchmaking services are contrary to Colombian culture. That is my point. What is your point?

Thanks for the replies. I checked into the Colombian Consulate website, which I should have thought of before bothering everyone (sometimes I don't know where my mind is). I think I can easily qualify for the Pensioner Visa, since I've been retired from the U. S. Army since 1973 (when I was 24), and I'm now just short of being 59 and get a good check. I'm not sure what the minimum monthly wage is in Colombia, but I bet I exceed the 10 months required. I couldn't find a listing for a Rentista Visa. I'll probably go to the Consulate in Atlanta, where my parents live and from where I'll be departing, and either get a tourist visa, or just go for the Retired Visa and be done with it.

I've just finished reading the entire General Information section, some 84 pages, it took 3 or 4 days off and on. An incredible amount of good information, I took notes. Among many, I'd like to thank Ricker for his reasoned replies and posts, and Surfer for suggesting I check out Manizales, Periera and Armenia as possible places to settle down and live, as they are smaller and SAFER than Medellin.

Having gone through 13 years of living in Thailand, 8 years of visiting KM11, and 5 years of living with a wonderful, but still Thai, young woman, I think that hooking into the prepago networks in what ever city I decide on would be the best bet for me. Variety certainly is the spice of life, and while being in love with someone is something special, living with them can get to be a burden. And unless the relationship is truly extraordinary, in the end people get tired of each other. So much more preferable to have someone come over when you need them, and have the rest of your life to yourself.

I hope to visit Colombia to look around this coming April, and may ask for recommendations as the time gets nearer.

Thanks again, Khun Talung. Or, as I may soon become, Senor Disgraciado

If you're moving to Colombia though, I don't think Senor Desgraciado is a fitting name for you.
You know it means that you are an unlucky, less fortunate person ... desgraciado.

I would think Senor Afortunado would be more appropriate. :)

Good luck!

Yes, I certainly have been fortunate. Wounded at 23 after an exciting four years as a helicopter door gunner, I was lucky enough not to have been killed, and to have the rest of my life to do as I pleased with a government pension check. I've been able to travel around, live where I pleased, and not been beaten down by having to work. Fortunate indeed! What could I have done in the last life to deserve this?

I thought 'disgraciado' meant 'ungracious'. Obviously, I should take some Spanish lessons before I go. I was looking for 'Mr Rude', as in making inappropriate comments to women. Of course, I would only use that as a board name, not with the public. Nor would I be rude with women.

I think there are some dance studios here in Pattaya, I may try to take some Salsa lessons too.

Thanks to BdHbz for the link to latinamericancupid.com. I plugged in Man looking for Woman, 18-24, in Colombia, and on the first page that came up was Marlin, from Cerete. Oh my.

And some of the ladies were interested in men 18-88. Could these be prepagos? Did they overlook the age filter, or, are they up for anything with a heartbeat (and a wallet)?

I have to say, that thinking about Colombia has done the same thing for me that discovering KM11 did after 6 months of Marine Disco area starfish. Given me a new lease on life. I'm more enthusiastic and my mind is more energetic. I'm really looking forward to it.

Thanks to everyone for their contributions,

KT

Courier services can be used to avoid the trip to BOG. And I know of people who have gotten the Pensionado VISA with quite small pensions. The stated minimum does not seem to apply.

You don't need to get a tourist VISA. All you have to do is present a US passport at entry, and they will stamp the tourist "VISA" onto your passport. They normally give 60 days at entry.

My point is simply that I think you are wrong, and that they are NOT contrary to Colombian culture, that in fact they are a better fit with Colombian culture than with North American culture. And I already stated my reasons why.

77% of Colombians live in cities, and frankly I doubt ANYBODY in this forum is going to have much truck with too many of the other 23%.

Thank you, Tom 33, for all your info. There are many I'd like to thank, I feel like one of the people at the Academy Awards that pulls several full sized sheets of paper out of their pocket, trying to remember everyone that's had a kind word for them.

I think I'll just go by the Consulate anyway, it's no trouble, and at least get a six month tourist visa. I want to try several cities, and spend at least a month in each... or until I reach my boredom limit.

I notice you live in Medellin, after having been in Barranquilla for some time. Did you consider other cities as well, and decide on Medellin as the best option? I've been looking into Manizales, Periera and Armenia, as being smaller than Medellin, but fair sized, and safer. Do you think they would have fairly much the same facilities, as in decent food and groceries, gyms, and TV Cable Net?

Thanks again,

MIA and FLL fly direct to those cities. Show a little resourcefulness.

I know there has been discussion on the boards regarding murder rates. The Economist article this week has some interesting data. Read the article at http://www.economist.com/world/la/displaystory.cfm?story_id=11750858 or see the graph here

http://bayimg.com/iAjolaAbO

Basically it is saying El Salvador and Venezuela are pretty dangerous. In Venzuela, last year, : more than 13,000 people were killed in a country of 27m, producing a murder rate of 48 per 100,000, the second highest in the world (after El Salvador). In neighboring Colombia, a country plagued by guerrilla war and drug violence, the rate was 40 per 100,000.

Caracas is currently the second most dangerous city in the Americas (after San Salvador). Even by the official figures, the murder rate is 130 per 100,000; but the true figure may be closer to a staggering 166 as only three of every 100 murderers are actually sentenced.

Now, for a first timer to Colombia, where would you suggest?
What about safety? how big of a concern is it down there?
Which city is the safest?

I was wondering if there was a kind of one guide for everything to do with Colombia as we have in the Brasil forum with the Bubba Guide.

I thank in advance any feedback.

Buy a long distance phone card from the US, but make sure it the access number is not a 1-800 number (ie, normal area code). When in Cali, just call the calling card number in the states, and make a normal international call to Cali. Just make sure you use the card a few times while in the States so she becomes acostumed to the number.

Before I leave for Medellin I buy a phone card that you can use in the states to call Colombia ala orbitel, a $10 card gets you 10 honest hours. Now in Medellin I buy a phone card to call the states from any lotto stand. Ebt, buy one from 10mil or a 20mil for those go fast depending on how much you are going to call. Step 1 call the states using the ebt card. Step 2 call the orbitel phone card number, step 3 then call back to Colombia to her cell or fijo. And there you go, the number will come up scrambled two times and come up unknown!

Bogota, Cali, Medellin, Cartagena, Barranquilla, Bucaramanga, or ?

If a guy with only an intermediate spanish ability was to go to Columbia for only a 1 or 2 week mongering experience, which destination city should he choose ?

I'm guessing that some of the criteria to consider would be climate, crime, hotel/hostal prices, chica prices, chica friendliness or attitude, flight accessability, etc

I'd appreciate any opinions/info from some of you more seasoned Columbia mongerers to help me decide a trip there.

KTWith the exception of and Friday or Saturday all-night party maybe once a month, Santa Mónica is fairly quiet between 10:00 pm and 5:00 am as long as you are not too close to a main street.

Conquistadores is a little noisier especially near la 65.

I spent a month in Barrio La Paz in Envigado in an urbanizacion a few years ago. That was very quiet.

Here is some good humor I am sure many of you guys can relate to, but you have to wonder what these girls are thinking. Today, I received an email letter from a girl from Cartagena, who I have actually set up several guys from the forum with. I have not heard from her for approximately 3 months or so. When I did hear from her last, she was cursing me out because she saw me talking to another girl in LDV. To make a long story short, she writes in her email about how she misses me and desires me everyday, but the funny part of it is, she has sent this same message to 16 other guys, as all the email addresses of the guys are shown on her email to me. I write her back and tell her thank you, but you have sent this same message to many others. She then writes me back and tells me the message is especially for me, that the other guys were just amigos. She then proceeds to tell me how I have all these girlfriends in Cartagena, and how she has followed me out of LDV on a couple of occasions, and saw a girl and me go into my apartment, which is several blocks from LDV. I then respond back to her, that yes I do have many friends in Cartagena who are just that, friends, not sex partners. ;) Of course, then I receive a message telling me I am nothing but a liar, but she still loves me. Now why is it, these girls can write 16 guys, but it is not alright for us to be with another girl? This has always mind fucked me.

Reposted in the thread titled Comments about forum rules previous to Jackson deleting this post. He then claimed I am a serial antagonist, which I responded to, because I pointed out in facts that his claim of me being a serial antagonist is solely based on his personal animosity towards me, because of the fact I am not afraid to call him out when he is wrong, such as his antagonistic post against Johnath12 on the The Down Under Group's Medellin Mansion thread, post # 3561, in which he called Johnath12 the biggest pussy on the forum, and the fact I do not kiss his ass, or the asses of his friends, such as Aussie Greg. Unfortunately Jackson chose not post my response to his claims, which is what you can expect these days.

Here is some good humor I am sure many of you guys can relate to, but you have to wonder what these girls are thinking. Today, I received an email letter from a girl from Cartagena, who I have actually set up several guys from the foru....alright for us to be with another girl? This has always mind fucked me.I am not trying to [CodeWord140] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord140) you off and I have respect for your experiences. I think you are real.

But lets be real here? Many of these girls that we "associate" with, have some MAJOR problems. This is why some have some major drinking/drug problems. Of course, SOME of these girls. Do this for a job but the reality is that we will come accross a Higher rate of crazies than the general population.

What is funny is that she sent the same Email to other guys without realizing it and will still hold on to the folly! ? If she was an American, she would probably still believe everything that our President says as Gospel truth!

I wouldn't let it bother you! You can actually have more fun with her by saying that you haven't let her guard down around you and she has high walls! Just let you inside! LOL

I am not upset about this. I think it is funny. I have no emotional attachment what so ever to any of these girls. I was simply pointing out the delusional way of thinking of these girls. I do however disagree with you on your drug/alcohol claims. It is my opinion most of these girls are to lazy to actually have to work at a normal type of job, or they are in the business out of necessity to support there families, and cannot make the money to do so in a normal type of job. I do not believe for one minute most have drug and alcohol problems. It is also my experience with Colombianas, that they love to claim you as there property, even after one date, despite the fact they work in the sex industry. This is the part that mind fucks me.

I agree that most Colombian prostututes do not have drug/alcohol problems, but the nature of their work attracts Colombian women that already have psychological problems prior to working as a prostitute and also induces psychological problems in many otherwise "normal" women after they begin working as a prostitute.

I do not think Colombian women go into prostitution because of self-esteem and psychological problems, although I am sure all do have problems, just like you and I.

The reason they go into hooking is plain and simple---MONEY

Should a woman with a bambino go work in factory and make maybe 2-3 dollars an hour, and struggle to even live, or should work in a casa or freelance and make maybe 3-4 times as much money minimal?

This is also cultural, for many of these girls support not only bambinos, but also mama, little brothers and sisters etc.

Intresting topic

I think if you look at american stripers and hookers, then yes many of them have emotional and personal problems, and use their income to support drug habbits or bad boyfriends. in asia or south america and colombia i think this trend is becoming more visible, i see many non-moms hitting the working circut for many months now, not just paying college tuition but to live a upperclass lifestyle, IE buying motos, twingos, paying for school, rents, boyfriends and have the freedom that comes with surplus money, these women are selfish and more hard core, and earn tons of money. still i dont think the problem in colombia is as bad as it is in america many single moms working for the children, these women can be negotiated or talked down in price and often give better service, nothing is equal, or even everything is subject to change.

From my first trip to Colombia, 3.5 weeks, while it is fresh in my mind:

1. Buy a SIM for your GSM phone. Cel numbers are 10 digits and start with 3. For fixed lines, start with 03 plus the city code (1 for bogota, 4 for medellin) then then fixed line number. If you date non-pros, never leave your cel turned off even by accident. They will be sure you are cheating on them.

2. Internet cafes are everywhere. If there isn't an @ character on the keyboard, type Alt + 64 on the numeric keypad.

3. The sidewalks are very irregular and have pot holes. If you need to girl watch, I suggest that you stop walking. Otherwise, you may twist your ankle or break a leg.

4. People are friendly and welcoming, especially in Medellin. It is easy to strike up conversations. many will practice there English on you, but Speaking Spanish is necessary to function on your own or to approach non-pros. My Spanish is not perfect, but it was enough for most things.

5. There are many beautiful women in Colombia, ranging from white to black with everything in between except Asian and very tall. But the majority are ordinary looking. Silicon is not as prevalent as I expected from my observation of the pros in St Maarten. It is heavily concentrated in the Poblado neigborhood of Medellin.

6. Pros.

In strip clubs and girlie bars, the on-site rooms for sex are sometimes hidden behind secret doors. I found this charming. My favorite was Maracaibo strip club on Calle 53 in Medellin, where you first duck under the bar counter, then duck again through a bar height secret passage.

I did not see any massage places or sex casas with signs. That is probably why there are people on every busy corner giving out cards for such places. I picked up 7 in a few hours walking around.

Sunday is quiet in Colombia, with many shops closed. In Medellin, cards from Atenae, Barcelona and Play Model claimed they were open on Sundays.

One of my favorite pro sessions was back in Bogota. I was walking to the corner of CRA 15 and Calle 84, when I spotted two attractive girls and smiled at them. They said hello and handed me a card. It was for a massage parlor nearby:

Sala de Masajes La Femme.
Open mon-sat, 10am to 8pm. CRA 15 No 86A-57, apt 301 on the 3rd floor.
Their web site doesn't say much. http://www.geocities.com/la_femme_gourmet

I walked on, but was intrigued. I have been given many such cards, but this was the first time the card came from two of the working girls, giving me an advance look at what was on offer. And very pretty ones. I liked their enterprise and I thought the price might be better than the other places in Zona Rosa.

I went up to the 3rd floor and the girl who spoke to me on the street recognized me and gave a big smile. Natalia. She introduced the other 4 girls. All nice, no gordos, but no 10s either. Prices are 60k for massage, 80k for massage with something extra (I presume CBJ) and 100K for full serviee. for an hour. With a massage table, not a bed.

I focused my attention on Natalia, because I had a connection with her. I selected the 100K option. Very GFE.

I pulled out my ipod and speakers and let her select Sin Bandera. I happened to have a Sin bandera cd in my bag, so I gave it to her as a gift (I consider this a good 50 cent investment). The massage table was not the best for sex, but we managed admirably. When I was finished I gave her a massage. She gave me her number and asked me to call her tomorrow.

7. Non-pros.

I found myself moving too slowly for most Colombian women. One beautiful girl in a shoe store in downtown Medellin had to wave to me across the street the second day I walked by and then had to ask me for my phone number. I found it very hard to get over North American habits, but it was necessary. This girl then called me two days later, after I was in Bogota and could not do anything about it.

An Ipod with good latin and USA pop music is a great ice breaker, and a seduction tool if you include romantic ballads. But Colombians listen to a lot more local pop music (ranchera, vallenato, llanera, drinking songs, etc.) than I would have believed possible.

Non-pros have a life with a schedule and responsibilities. They can't just stop everything and play with you. I have been spoiled by 3 years of Colombian pros in St Maarten (in brothels where they work on 3 month visas).

Non-pros may be using you, even if subconsciously. For example, if she is lonely and horny, the sex may be hot and passionate. But she may not be horny again for a week. You make a good paying escort for restaurants, clubs, movies, etc. One paisa MILF had never been on the metrocable before, in fact she didn't know how the metro worked. One night in bogota with a young beauty without much money, she ordered lobster for 120k and I ordered a bottle of wine and then I ordered a small bottle of imported whiskey at a Parque 93 disco, and the evening cost over 400K. And I was so tired and drunk at the end, sex was not an option, even if she didn't have to go home to get a couple of hours sleep before her obligations of the next day. But another beautiful woman, an engineer, went with me to see the new Mummy movie on opening weekend and ate lightly in the mall and cost me less than 50K. I met these women and others through cypercupido.com - only one was an obvious prepago, the rest were normal middle=class women.

8. Visiting a pro at home.

I only called one of the many girls that I was friendly with in the St Maarten clubs,

When I arrived at her house, she had severe cramps from a drug she had taken to abort a pregancy she got working in the islands (not mine). It didn't work, so 2 nights later she took a stronger more dangerous drug and at 1:30am I heard her crying in the bathroom as she flushed the fetus down the toilet. She was a physical and mental wreck for 2 days more. All the while, hiding what was happening from her young son, her neighbors and her mother.

It was an intense, up-close, real-life experience, but not one that I would recommend for your vacation in Colombia.

9. Security. I visited Bogota, Medellin, Barranquilla, and Ibague. I walked a lot, rode the bus, took taxis, rode the metro, went to the circus, discos, bars, and public festivals, and explored scummy downtown Medellin during the day. I followed precautions as recommmended by Colombians (don't go downtown at night, don't wear jewelry, etc.). There are police and security guards everywhere in good areas and shopping centers. I experienced no petty crime and felt safe. However, I didn't get drunk very often and never alone, or visit any poor rural areas, or flash any money around and I stayed only in secure neighborhoods.

As far as logic, 99% of all women are impossible to deal with.

I was just checking how much my bank, Bank of America, buttf*cks me and my fellow Colombian travellers when we use an ATM in Locombia

BOFA charges $5.00 per use, plus 3% of what you take out. So, for example, if you take out $200, BOFA makes $11.00 on the transaction, and that does not include the charge from the bank of the ATM machine. Ouch

CapitalOne = no fees whatsoever. The problem with capitalone is they are on the plus network which only has 4 institutions in COL you can use:

BANCO POPULAR, bancafe, BBVA, and AV Villas

If you are outside of the largest a major cities, you may have no options. I have much better access with my coop account, and also no fees.

Also I prefer the larger banks like davienda that allow larger withdrawls, and dispense smaller bills.

Trust me if you like smaller cities, it is a pain when you go to AV villas, the ATM reboots in the middle of the transaction, so you are not sure if you are debited twice.. Then it only dispenses 200K and only in 50's after you have stood in line for 20min, because your card will not work at any of the other banks !

Mongers,

I always use a Wachovia debit card, which uses the Plus network, at various ATMs in Colombia, including Bancolombia (in the Bogota Airport) and several Citibank locations in Medellin. At Bancolombia I am able able to pull $700k pesos and Citibank $800k. These transactions always yield about $600k in $50k bills and the rest in $20k and $10k bills. Wachovia fucks me on the fees, but significantly less than what Bank of America charges. Overall, it is still much better than the rate available to charge cash dollars.

Maestro cards are, by default, linked to the Cirrus network, but very often, all three logotypes of the MasterCard family will be shown: MasterCard, Maestro and Cirrus.

I agree FLA fun, I have a card on the cirrus network it is 10X better than PLUS in latin america.

Also, the plus card CAN NOT be used at citibank or Bancolombia, otherwise availability would be a non issue.

Just go to this link and look for banks that say plus (not just visa..) next to them:
http://visa.via.infonow.net/locator/global/

If you have a debit card such as the guy with the Wachovia account, it is also on the visa network which is much more extensive than plus, which is why it works at many other institutions.

The problem with the capone account is that it is a savings account, not a debit card, and will not work on the visa network or for point of sale transactions. It will only work at plus atm's which are mainly more obscure tier 2 banks (and rare outside of major colombian cities).

Your best bet is a low fee cirrus atm card or visa/mc debit card. Also though, keep in mind with debit cards, if they are stolen you could have a much bigger problem as they do not require a pin for non cash transactions.

Hi

I am primarily an escort monger. I much prefer calling up someone and having the girl come to my hotel room like room service. Since I am new to the Columbia scene an I am trying to learn more, can someone tell me which city in Columbia has the most escort services? Are there any websites that have accurate pictures that you can recommend?Just check the classifieds section of the local newspaper. There will be ads for individual escorts and ads for escort services. Some of the escort services will have web sites, some will not. Generally, the web sites are useless anyway due to phony photos of the escorts. Please, do not agree to "Gringo" pricing.

In some cities, there are print magazines that have ads for escorts. For example, I think the "Contactos" magazine in Medellin has ads for escorts. Here is the link- http://contactosteune.com/ - and click where it says "Revista No. 34" on the left side of the home page.

In some cities, there are internet guides to local nightlife with ads for escorts. For example, the "Plan B" site in Bogota has ads for escorts. Here is the link - http://www.planb.com.co/home.aspx - and click where it says "Adultos" at the top of the home page.

In some cities, one or more of the taxi drivers outside upscale hotels will have "tarjetas" for escort services. This is common in Cali, for example.

The absolute best way to meet escorts in Colombia, however, is to to get them through networking. It is incredibly common for young Colombian women in certain areas of employment (actresses, beauty, cosmetics, design, entertainment, fashion, hair salons, media, modeling, news reporters, etc.) to be available as escorts. Try to meet the women and gay men that supply models as "presentadoras" and "promotoras" to local companies. Alternatively, just speak directly to such women - they are everywhere you go in Colombia. Many (probably most) of them want to meet you as much as you want to meet them. This is a good strategy for Barranquilla, in particular.

It is common knowledge that some of the most famous young women in Colombia are available as escorts. The more famous they are, the more expensive they are. Just because they are famous, however, does not mean they are more attractive than some of the "promotoras" you will see everywhere you go in Colombia.

Also, most of the young single Colombian women without children on the dating sites are "prepagos" but many of them will hide that fact. This can have advantages and disadvantages.

Presently, the vast majority of the young single Colombian women without children in the marriage agencies are also "prepagos" but such agencies are no longer cost-effective.

Latin America Currencies: Colombia Peso Gains on New Debt Sales

By Drew Benson

Aug. 21 (Bloomberg) -- Colombia's peso climbed the most in three weeks after the central bank said it will auction interest- bearing deposits to absorb cash from bonds maturing tomorrow.

The peso rose 1.2 percent to 1,862 per dollar at 1:55 p.m. in New York, from 1,885.45 yesterday, according to the Colombian foreign-exchange electronic transactions system, known as SET-FX.

Banco de la Republica said last night it will auction deposits with maturities ranging from seven days to 90 days starting tomorrow. About 5.6 trillion pesos of bonds mature, the Finance Ministry said in a statement. The peso led a rally today among most Latin American currencies against the dollar.

The debt maturity ``will generate a lot of liquidity in the market, and the government is trying to sterilize this in line with its program to control inflation,'' said Edgar Jimenez, an analyst with Stanford Financial Group's unit in Bogota.

Jimenez expects the peso rally to be short-lived.

He predicts it will weaken to 2,010 by year-end, driven down by central bank dollar purchases and a drop in commodity prices.

The yield on Colombia's benchmark 11 percent bonds due in July 2020 fell 9 basis points, or 0.09 percentage point, to 11.59 percent, according to Colombia's stock exchange. The price rose 0.518 centavo to 96.274 centavos per peso.Mind you, this is one of the guys who's fucked over the world economy, so I wouldn't be inclined to believe him if he told me I had two legs without counting 'em.

Looking For Eden, UrbanWildlife, Tiny 12:

Thank you my fellow monger gentlemen. Your input is appreciated. :)

I would say Cartagena but I have not been to all the cities you mentioned. Cartagena is the safest from what I hear and experienced and also gets the most tourists from around Colombia too. Also, I speak just a little spanish and got by fine there.
After thinking it over you should really go to Medellin! :)You will probably find other gringos in the same situation as you, and it is a very good possibility you will find a wing man there. It is my opinion that Medellin is the best place for a gringo to visit. :) I would never recommend you come to Cali because of the safety and language factor, and if you like nightlife, Cartagena really does not have much to offer. It is a big city, but very small at the same time.

Have fun and be safe, and ENJOY Medellin! :)
If cost and comfortable weather are your biggest priorities I'd pick Medellin, otherwise Cartagena. Bogota would be my #3 choice, and Barranquilla a distant #4. I've never been to Cali or Bucaramanga, but from what I've read they wouldn't be good choices for someone with intermediate language ability who's concerned about crime.
======================================================

Well, that depends.

What country's passport are you travelling on, and how long do you intend to spend in Colombia? If he is going to the New York embassy, my guess is that he has a US passport. It does not matter how long you intend to stay. If you arrive without a VISA, you can stay no longer than 180 days in any calendar year.

You are correct in that citizens of some countries, Ireland for example, do not qualify for a tourist VISA to Colombia.

Iirc the maximum is 90 days/calendar year, so back to back you could get up to 180 days. But its a real pita going to das every 30 days, hence the question. If you intend to go for more than 90 days, get a visa.

Thus you can get 360 if you work your time right. You can get a max of 90 days upon entry. However, they generally give 30 or 60 days. You can get the initial time extended in 30-day increments at your local DAS office.

RudeRR,

All things are possible. I brought home a Paisa from Medellin this year. I took my time getting to know her for a year. Traveled back and forth in order to spend time with her family. Nice girl but I could sense differences upon her arrival hear. FYI, we had a 10 year age gap and she was no Pablado princessa , a nice El Centro working Paisa. Also I met her initially through Colombian Sweethearts. I returned her to Medellin after 2 months in the USA. It was very difficult, but the bottom line I was not ready for marriage after all.

RR, you might be ready whereas I was not. But here are some considerations for you ;

1. Do you speak Spanish well enough to truly get to know a Colombian woman ? Most do not speak English and the ones that do might be the types you should avoid.

2. Do you have the time and financial resources to devote to truly getting to know her before you bring her to Australia ?

3. Avoid the marriage agencies ! BE THE HUNTER AND NOT THE HUNTED. Try to find a Colombiana who is not actively searching for a forign husband. This will give you a better chance of finding someone who truly likes you.

4. you might want to even tell the ladies that you are seriously considering living in Colombia. This will help you to avoid those who are only looking for a way out.

5. Regarding bringing home a 20yo, I would not recommend this unless you are wanting to adopt. You really probably need to stay no more than 10-12 years of your own age.

I do believe that most Colombians are great people and that it is possible to find a good wife there. However I have decided to shoot for retirement in Colombia when I can. Then and only then will I might be ready to consider another marriage.

Buena suerte mate,

Yes you can bring them home but faithful?

You keep her on (poor choice of words but not meant literally) a short leash, keep her satisfied and as GOD to interdict; for this you might have luck. This is how I have seen the loving Colombian husband treat their wives.

No domestic violence or bitter words. Freedom to a point but close to home. "Ganas" are more inmportant then fedility to many.

Do not let this sway you; if my marriage worked out (it would have if I had been given this advise) I would have been happier then the proverbial pig in shit.

I used to post regularly on ISG in other sections but now I am interested in Colombia. Although I like to dabble with the P4P, I also like to pursue non-pros. Thus, I'd like to do some of the legwork through the internet and was wondering what dating sites you have found to be helpful.

I have already signed up for Amigos.com and Cybercupido but have found them to have a limited selection of quality (hot) chicas. I'd appreciate if you could list your favorite Colombian Dating websites.

Thanks!

RudeThink about how you might feel being asked to spend the rest of your life in a foreign country away from your friends, family, and culture. That's the hurdle you'll have to overcome, and its not an easy one. It can be done, but unless you have the patience of Job you'll likely in for a tough ride.

Guy's,

I'm dying for real Italian food in Medellin. I have tried a couple: Tramezzini, Crispino, Romma and even Al Rojo, based on advice by locals. But I think, that they don't know the real thing (as little as they know real Chinese food). The sugo in those restaurants is too sweet, I don't taste oregano, no balsamico is used or the carpaccio is drenched in some undefined sauce.

To avoid another dissapointment, I bid you guys who know what I mean, please inform me.

The slices were drenched in vinegar, so it was like eating sour slices of meat, topped with mushrooms and cheese. A few drops of balsamico instead of the pool of vinegar would do wonders.

La Pastizzeria is Italian fusion. Probably not what Menteng is searching for.

Mondongos serves Colombian specialties. They only have about five things on the menu. Mondongo (soup with tripe), grilled chicken, steak, bandeja paisa. That's it. This place has great service, good food, and is a venerable local institution. Very popular.

Fatto in Casa is IMO the best prospect to try.

You could check out Opera Pizza, where an Italian guy does pizzas, calzones and bruschette out of a pizza oven. Although if you didn't like Crispino, Opera Pizza is a step below in sophistication and not gonna do it for you, either.

I've been living in Pattaya, Thailand for 13 years. In Thai, 'Khun' is 'Mister'.

When you make an indecent proposal to a girl, like, 'Let's go somewhere and get naked', they get indignant and say, 'Talung! '.

So, I'm 'Mr Rude', or something like that, although 'rude' is 'mai su pop'. Anyway, when I introduce myself, they know what kind of guy I am. I'll have to change my name when I move to Colombia, like, Senor Mine' (minay).

Greetings folks,

Before leaving for Colombia a couple weeks ago, I found my cialis supply level at critical. So while Colombia has a generic Viagra, It does not have a generic Cialis and I didnt want to spend 90k on a 4 pack at Exito or LA 14. So after doing some research I got a great recommendation from master monger called ASIAN RAIN on this company called www.edselection.com . The company is from India and sells you generic Cialis. I paid about $100 for 30pills and 4 free generic viagras to try (im not a fan of viagra). That included $10 unregistered mail shipping fee. After about 2 weeks a hand written orange envelope arrives from India. I open it up to see some basic instructions, details about the company and 30 orange, push pill professionally wrapped TADALAFIL tabs 20mg. I was psyched. Well upon arrival in Colombia my first night I pop one out and give it a whirl.. Gents may I tell you, JUST AS GOOD as the original and lasts a GOOD 36hrs as well easily. ALMOST like they were industrial strength lol. I felt like my 18yr old self again lol. The ONLY drawback is that they are NOT thin shell coated so make sure you have some water or coke nearby to swallow down more easy.

Bottom Line: Big thumbs up and thank you Asian Rain!

Dude,

I wouldn't suggest Colombia, this is a HARSH enviorment; asian women are more submisive and alot more easy to handle, a colombian will screw your brains out, be much more sexy and then along with her local lover steal everything you own. Your chances of finding a colombian whom will honestly like you and not give you a hard time or run for your money is difficult. Unless you speak spanish and know the land I wouldn't suggest it.

The fact that your looking on those websties means your F***ed, Majority of those girls are not serious, I have met many girls here whom use the sites to after 4 weeks of chatting hit you up for money, if you don't give up they stop talking to you.

If you continue on your search in Colombia, with in the coming weeks you find these girls asking you for money, the reason will be many, and this will be your first warning sign. If by blindness and stupidity you choose to ignore this warning, she will continue to ask for more money, then stop talking to you, you will move on to the next girl on your hotlist or the next and then the next, one whom you have been chating for the past week also, she again will ask you for money or you may now start thinking that a trip to Colombia to vist your prospects are in order, you let the girls know that your arrival is near and make plans for your multiple city vists. These girls arnt stupid and realize that when your here the shoping trips begin. When you arrive youll be meet some some very pretty women all whom seem intrested in meeting you despite the fact that you don't speak spanish and they don't speak english, regardless they are overjoyed to meet you and begin to spend your money. Youll go to to dinners, see the sites, even go dancing, hit the beach meet the family, some girls may be bold enough to ask you for money at this stage.

At this point you weed out those girls whom are all about the money becuase after hitting the "***** houses" in your free time, your not as stupid (horney) as you were in the internet chatting days. But the real danger lies in the girls that don't ask for money, treat you like a king and even let you sleep with them, if she is hot enough and your type, you are now offically scrwed. Your 2-4 week trip is now over and you had more sex in those weeks then in most of your life. When you return home you can think of nothing eles but that chica, who is prefect for you, despite the fact that you barely know her name, and your conversations were limited to where your going to eat tonight. After a few more weeks of chating and some 2 minute phone calls, she will hit you up for money, becuase the family is in need, but if she is smart it won't be for too much. If she is really smart she won't ask for anything but wait for you to send some (which you will). Months go by and you make plans for your next vist to Colombia, maybe to pop the question and make plans for your purchase; I mean "wedding".

Its been a long road, lots of chicas, photos, meetings, dates, money wires, e-mails, phone calls you have meet some gold diggers and weeded them out maybe even some crazys. But you found the perfect one, she is hot, sweet, great in bed, and intrested in you, she even started english classes, that your paying for. You marry her arrange for the visa, maybe even knock her up, the problems that arise could be many, I couldn't even count all the troubles that could come from this, regardless please know your putting your life and fincial well being into play by trusting and marrying a women in the thrid world, you could be one of the lucky ones, one of the smart ones, whom can escape all the congames and find true happiness, but even at best, Even at best you will still be married! Whats wrong with you!

Bottom Line: Big thumbs up and thank you Asian Rain!Haven't I read recently about quality problems with drugs out of India?

Dunno if they apply to this company but caveat emptor maybe?

The fact that your looking on those websties means your F***ed, Majority of those girls are not serious, I have met many girls here whom use the sites to after 4 weeks of chatting hit you up for money, if you don't give up they stop talking to youHeya Sailor. Love that post!

I remember when I was new to the Colombia scene. Met this chica on Cupidos, beautiful, from Barranquilla.

Anyway, after the MSN chatting, phone calls, etc, I made my trip to Colombia to meet her.

She met me at the mall, with her mother. She was indeed the same chica, beautiful, sexy, etc. I was happy.

The fun started shortly after lunch. We went to the Exito store at the mall, or actually it was another department store at the time, but that doesn't matter, it was a big store.

It was her mother's idea to go there.

Me and the sexy Costena were walking together, hand in hand, I was happy. Her mother had a shopping cart, she was looking an stuff and filling up the cart. She had radios, a microwave oven, clothing, food, all kinds of stuff. I thought nothing of it. Like a trip to Walmart on payday.

Well we get to the checkout counter, the cashier chica asks for about a million and a half pesos and the mother says. Ricker paga por favor.

I was stunned, and said that I didn't have the cash on me, and she suggested putting on my Visa.

I re-grouped and told her I would have to go the cash machine for the cash. The mother was thrilled.

I left for the cash machine. And guess what? I never came back. They called my cel phone a zillion times and I just moved on.

Yes, they are sharks in Colombia. Beware.

Hi Rodney,

I think I can offer some feedback considering I lived in Jakarta for 2 years and have been a frequent visitor to Colombia for over 7 years. In my opinion, both Indonesians and Colombianas, in general, make excellent wifes/novias. As Sailor mentioned, it is important to speak the language in either country or you will be limiting yourself to cewe and chicas who probably have a lot of exposure to bule/gringos. These are the girls you want to avoid because a lot of them are insincere and there's a greater chance that they will try to play you. Both Bahasa Indonesian and Spanish are relatively easy to learn, so be sure to make that effort.

Although I had a lot of fun with both the pros and nonpros from all over Indonesia, I will always prefer Latinas (and in particular Colombianas and Venezolanas) just because I prefer the culture. However, there are a lot more opportunities to meet cewes just because there are way more of them. It's like shooting ducks in a barrel in Jakarta.

One thing to think about if you decide to marry a Muslim Indonesian is that you will have to convert to Islam in order to legally marry her. I've had friends who did this and it isn't a big deal. They did it "with a wink" and aren't religious anyway. However, some people aren't willing to change religions for anyone and you also have to think about how you want to raise future kids (if you're planning on having kids, that is). Colombians are predominantly Roman Catholics.

So I guess what I'm saying is that both countries are excellent choices for wife hunting (or mongering for that matter). It all depends on your individual preferences. Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions.

I've done jakarta many times and love it, the girls look good and there the sincerest I've come across in 20 countries, this is mainly for Menteng to answer but anyone else who has done both please feel free to advise, could you tell me how they compare and if I was to look for a gorgeous young and sincere wife wich of the two would you recommend? I've been getting replies from some absolutely stunning chicks from a Colombian website but its kida like there to good to be true? I'm 41 Australian and in good shape but want to bail out of the mongering seen while I'm still in good enough shape to find something nice.

RudeWhat Sailor2006 says is true. I am not sure what sites you are meeting these Colombian women on, but I have had good experience with Colombia Cupid and Latin American Cupid. I have met hundreds of girls online (unfortuately I have not been able to make a trip to Colombia yet), and only a few have asked for money. I have met at least 45 girls whom I have conversed with on a regular basis and feel are trustworthy and could visit tomorrow. I started out on there just to make a list of women to fool around with on trips to Colombia, but I have actually found some beautiful and educated women.

The good thing about the Cupid sites are if the girl asks for money you can report her and she will be deleted within 1 or 2 days. They do not fool around with scams. Every girl that has asked me for money I have reported and they have been deleted.

All that said, I have yet to travel down there to meet any of these women (early next year is my goal) so they could all be scams. Although I am no expert on Colombian women I do feel I have enough smarts to recognize a scam when I see one.

Good Luck!

Ricker, That was one crazy story!. I have never heard of such a story before, but the pictures playing in my mind is a good laughter

From the latest posts, just want to add that if you meet a chica that makes her own money (I. E lawyer, broker or other highly educated woman) that can be just as bad. She will be bitching about this and that, just like your american counterparts. You didn't travel this far to take that shit again.

The worst kind is the "real" model girls (That actually do fashion-runs for a living) A friend of my did catch one of these, and I closeby watched the humiliation that comes with this kind of relationship. My guess is that you got to behave like a bold, true assh*le if you are going to stay on pair with such a woman.

For me, the girl-next door (with a job and a education) seems to be the best option for a relation (I said relation. Not marriage! )

For pure f*cking. Anything nice will do!

Happy hunting to all / Ken.

Ricker good story, and something we all need to beaware of!!! i was trying to be funny to get my point across, hopefully nobody took me for real, and thought i was trying to insult the guy.

another thought sometimes, these gals are often pushed into stupid plays, by family IE " the mommy" if she thinks she can get away with having the wallet pay then "do it". I bet the chica would have rather gone out dancing with you and drank a bottle on the local scene then drag you to exito for family shopping.

Bottom line if you feel your being taken advantage of, run away!!!!

After reading the contributions by others in this thread and in the new thread: Tips for dating Colombianas, I must conclude that in those cases, you can replace the words "Colombian" and "chica" by "Indonesian" and "cewek". How striking!

I do not insist though, that girls/women in both countries are all like that. However, I think that if you meet one through dating sites/internet or P4P activities, chances are that they will be.

In my opinion, the best way to start a relationship is to just let it happen. It will not be easy, because being a foreigner (gringo/bulai) means:money, and the first ones that will be attracted, will be the gold-diggers.

So, brother RR, I really can not give THE answer. I have been married to an Indonesian woman and that lasted 6 months. The separation however had nothing to do with either of the quoted situations, but jealousy. The culture difference might have been too big. Now, after more than twenty years, I'm still married to a Colombian woman. Maybe I met the wrong Indonesian one and met the right Colombian one.

I recently returned from two weeks in Colombia and want to pass on this info since I think most travelers don't know about it. If you fly Avianca to Colombia, they offer a Colombia Air Pass for domestic flights that is not available for purchase inside Colombia. There are a few "catches" but if you want to fly around inside the country and plan well it is a very good deal and will save a boat load of money.

Here's how it works: They sell the pass as 3, 4, or 5 flight packages. They call the individual legs or flights cupons. Three cupons will cost US$220 + $16 tax. If you fly to anywhere on the Caribbean coast those cupons cost an additional $60. I flew from Bogota to Pereira, bused it to Armenia, then flew from Armenia to Barranquilla and lastly Barranquilla to Bogota. My air pass cost US$260 + $16 tax.

Here's the catches:

1) I flew to Bogota from Ft Lauderdale. For some reason they couldn't sell me the pass at the ticket counter in FLL airport. I had to go to a hole in the wall strip mall mini-office of Avianca in Plantation to buy it. Fortunately, I knew this ahead of time and arrived in time (before they closed at 12:30pm on Saturday) to buy it. I don't know if the ticket counter in Miami can sell it but I would call to verify for your local. Don't assume it's available without checking. Also, even the Avianca agents I talked to on the phone didn't know a lot about it. It may take 2 or 3 calls to get good info.

2) You must reserve the flights at the time of purchase. You cannot carry the pass to Colombia and decide when and where to fly later. You can change your itinerary but there is a $30 charge.

3) For me this was a biggie. I travel heavy. I take the kitchen sink plus extra plumbing, just in case. There is a 20 kilo total baggage limit for any flight purchased with the air pass. Any amount over 20 kgs gets charged at a prorated rate. I carried approximately 50 kgs in two bags. My memory is a little foggy here but first flight I paid COP70, 000, 2nd flight COP 120, 000, third flight COP60, 000 for extra baggage.

Yeah that part sucked but I had such a great time and saw and did so much that I really didn't care. It was still a bargain.

I need some of the Colombia experts to chime in on this one. I've been there plenty of times, but I am not as well versed in the culture as some of the other guys on the board, so I'd like to know other peoples' take.

I just got back from Colombia today. While I was on the plane I thought about something. (About to contradict myself with this next statement I don't make it a habit of barebacking, but I have never been with a Colombian non-pro who has asked me to use a condom. Most women around the world insist on protection, but the Colombianas that I know don't even bat an eyelash when my bare meat goes towards them.

Even my 18yo gf who has very traditional/strict parents. I am the second guy that she has ever been with and the first time that we were together we went a little while without protection. Was she not afraid of getting pregnant? Then there is a chick in Barranquilla who I used to fool around with. She had a boyfriend and still. The list goes on. And I'm not talking about dumb ass or ghetto chicks. I'm talking about educated, well off ones. What is the deal with this?

Mongers, Mr. Enternational, etal,

Barebacking non-pros is pretty much the standard everywhere I have been in South America. More often than not, the chicas will mention something about a condom, and I will just carry on as if she never said anything, and 99. 9% of the time the chicas don't really care and crave the bareback sex about as much as I do. If the chica is a little worried about it, I just say I get blood tests every month, I am circumcised (which I explain lessens the chance of me contracting anything), and that I will absolutely not cum inside her which means she will not get pregnant. With non-pros, that little pep talk is almost never necessary. Almost all the Colombia non-pros I have been with (maybe 10) have never even thought about using a condom.

With pros, I also rarely use condoms, and I do usually need to give that little pep talk to "talk them out of" insisting on the condom. Sometimes a combination of offering more money combined with the pep talk will do the trick. Naturally, there are always some pros that will absoutely not fuck me bareback the first time we hook up. When I choose a pro, I usually evaluate what are the chances she will do me bareback when making my decision. The criteria usually consists of an in-depth interview that concentrates on finding out if she has kids and/or a serious boyfriend. If she has kids and a husband or serious boyfriend, the chances she will do me bareback are almost zero. As such, as a rule, I almost never fuck pros that have kids and husbands/serious boyfriends.

This has been my experience in Colombia, Brasil, Paraguay, Bolivia and Argentina (where I live), although in Argentina pros with kids will generally still do me bareback. Although alot of people talk about condoms, the fact of the matter is that there are alot more mongers doing pros and non pros bareback than most people think. I personally know alot of big-time Buenos Aires-based mongers who are almost exclusively bareback mongers.

Suerte,

The price of those 3 same flights on Avianca's website was 975,000 CP, so the airpass doesn't even beat that.

Incidentally, there is no savings on round trip tickets on the website (i.e. it's exactly double the one-way).

Either pills or a needle once a month. Or worst case they want you to knock them up and hope to hook you.No "pills or needles" prevent SIDA (AIDS) or herpes. If she'll do you bareback what are the chances you're the first?

I thought maybe I was missing out on something, so I am here chatting with my boy who is a real "playboy" and goes to the University of Medellin, you know the one near that mall MOLINOS. He is my contact I use most of the time to arrange non pro parties and has introduced many many hot University girls. I asked him about the condom issue and he said that and I quote "MOST girls I have been with about 90% ask for condoms and I always carry a condom on me, unless they are drunk or something, but the real good girls always ask for it. Bandidas or easy chicks might not worry about it" So I am good with that. LOLMaybe his playboy-looks make the girls hesitant. After all a good looking guy like him must be fucking around (no pun intended).

Seriously now, obviously the government and others in Colombia succeeded in scaring the shit out of the Colombiano/a's. So there still is a vast mayority of both genders which insist on the use of condoms. The ones I fuck(ed) don't, but I must admit that I've been refused many, many times. Both by pro's and non-pro's.

I mentioned in the post that not even the Avianca agents know a lot about it, that it may take 2 or 3 calls to get good info. You clearly talked to a call center agent who didn't know squat.

She/he was way off. They should have quoted you the same I paid, $260 + $16 tax

Folks,

1) Is it advisable to rent a car in Medellin? I am travelling with a buddy and thought that would be a way to save money when compared with renting a private taxi+driver.

2) Can anyone recommend a car rental company?

3) What about considerations such as insurance, etc?

4) I have a US drivers license. Will that be ok for driving in MDE?

Taxis are very cheap in Medellin. Also I can not picture anyone who is not very familiar w/ Medallo actually being able to find what they are looking for much less being able to drive amongst all the crazy drivers.

Do yourself and everyone else a favor and stick with taxis. Once you get there you will see clearly just what I am talking about.

All,

I am doing my research on which city to visit to find the hottest and most friendly women in Columbia? Can anyone give me their insight on which city is best; possibly pros and cons of each of the major cities.

Thanks

Generally renting a car is going to be MORE expensive than taking taxis everywhere, not less. Plus who in their right mind would want to drive here?

I personally get by just fine on public transport with the judicious use of taxis now and again when I have no other choice, even going out of town is usually easy on buses. You can also hire a vehicle and driver on a daily or weekly basis really easily here, once again, generally cheaper than renting a car.

ThanksThis has been debated time and again. I think no one is responding to you because all the regular posters on here are tired of this question, as there is no right or wrong answer. In your post above you state you are doing research on Colombia, so if this is the case, you should have learned the proper spelling of the country. ;) I suggest you go to Medellin, and experience the beautiful paises, and get a room at the Mansion. This will be a good starting point for you. Have fun!

All Colombian cities have their hot and friendly women by the way, and every guy will have his favorite based on his experiences. Just go and find yours.

Copa Continental's partner flies not direct but through Panama.

I am flying on Copa, Bogota, CTG, Medellin and back to Bogota. I believe it is half the price of Avianca.

I believe American go to Cartagena from Miami, and I think some flies direct from NY or Newark, I remember I met someone who flew direct from NY to Cartagena, but it might be seasonal.

Side note: I just booked a trip on American to MDE, from Baltimore-Miami to MDE. I priced it at 900 then used my frequnt flier miles, 35, 000 miles. Seemed more cost effective.

Sometimes its better to use the mileage. Costa Rica, Panama and Bogota /Medellin are about the same distance, yeah Colombia is a little further, but the price difference is usually much greater percentage wise, than the distance, so I used the mileage.

Copa is hit or miss. In May I flew Avianca because Copa wanted 1200. This time I flew Copa and paid less than 600 (about 100 more than last year) IAD - MDE. It depends on the time of the year... I shop around to get the best price between Copa, AA and AV.

I am in Medellin now if anyone wants to meet up. I am staying at the Odeon and need some ¨clean¨diversion.

If you check the flights at this time, there is only one flight to Bogota. In my case from SFO to Bogota at 6am. Which I had to use next week.

The rest is an overnight stay over in Houston or Miami or maybe some other Fuck up city.

AA is starting a direct to a couple of cities in Brazil, Natal and one other.

No so good for us US$ or Euro mongers in Brazil.

You should read the www.argentinaprivate.com about your money. Thread is Chit chat Politics and Stocks or something like that. Spanish is easy with spelling.

Sorry, Just lost my Google's spell checker. We all need it.

at the risk of being blasted by everyone and being called a lazy leech, i'm just going to come out and ask this.

are there any comprehensive reports/primers to p4p in colombia or specific cities in general? something like a condensed guide to the in's and out's of scoring in colombia.

i've seen them in the forums for some of the other prime destinations like brazil.

there's a wealth of info on here, but it could take ages to get up to speed, and i was curious if there's an easier way to get the lowdown without having to pore through the whole forum.

You might want to take a look at those.I'm flying on Spirit Air for the first time next weekend from Atlantic City to CTG via Fort Laurerdale. I guess I'm a little worried about the quality of this airline. Does anyone have any prior experiences (good or bad) I should be aware of?

I was lured by their ticket prices in comparison to flying Continental from EWR to BAQ via Miami, which was way more expensive during this time of the year. This is the first time I've seen an airline charge a different price for sitting by the isle or window instead of the center.

I've done the FLL. CTG rountrip on Spirit four times since they started flying the route in May and I wouldn't hesitate to fly them again.

While they're a little slow at the check-in with processing boarding passes, etc. , (especially in Cartagena), it really isn't all that bad for saving a couple hundred dollars. Or more

The plane they fly between FLL. CTG is fairly new and the flight crew has always had a pleasant disposition. I don't mind paying $3 if I want a bottle of water or a snack and I don't have a problem with them not accepting cash (only credit/debit card) when I do.

I also go ahead and pay a little more for an aisle seat in an exit row. Makes sense for me to pay a little extra to ensure that my wide-body doesn't get stuck in the middle between two husky mongers, LOL.

Enjoy your flight and have fun!

I am writing this mostly for the purpose of entertainment, although there is some useful information to be gleaned. Pictures are minimal unfortunately as most have faces showing and I don’t want to reveal identities. The majority of the story is from Cartagena, although it continues into Santa Marta and Bogota forums for my final days. It’s rather long. So if you are up for it, make yourself a drink, sit back, relax and enjoy the story.

Cartagena

MONDAY

10:30 PM - On my second day in Cartagena after recuperating a bit from the heat and travel, I thought I would try out LDV as it had been recommended to me to be a good place to start. The taxi driver knew exactly where it was and there were a few women hanging around outside, who were happy to direct me to the door.

I went in and invited a woman named Dana from the south, who walked in at the same time, to join me for a drink. I was kind of deciding if I was even interested in her and after a while she initiated a negotiation. She said it was 200K for an hour or so and I said it was too much. She asked how much was good for me and I said maybe 100K. We hung out a while longer, danced some salsa, but it was soon apparent that it wasn’t going to go anywhere and I really didn’t know if I wanted it to.

11:30 PM - It was starting to get busy with about a 50-50 ratio of men to women. I was getting a bad vibe about the place, probably from my conversation with Dana. I asked the DJ for salsa and he offered to sell me a salsa CD and I’d had enough of people trying to sell me stuff for the day. I couldn’t really get a good view of the women there because it was kind of dark.

I went to the bar where I could see a bit better. I started chatting with one who seemed interested although the more I looked at her, the less interested I was. Then I started chatting with Yennifer, a 21-year old from Cali who looks kind of like Lisa Bonet. I think she’d get a 7 or 8 in most people’s books. I felt like there was good chemistry and offered her 100K to come back to my place and she smiled and said sure.

We talked a bit on the way back in the taxi.
‘Do you have a boyfriend?’
‘No’
‘It’s too bad I’m here only a week, or I’d be your boyfriend.’
‘You can be my boyfriend this week.’

And with that we started kissing. She was a wild woman who liked deep kissing. I was with her 3 or 4 times during the week and they all kind of blend together now, so I’ll just summarize here for those who like the details. She really liked being spanked…. hard. She kept asking for more the first time. I asked later if she was sure it didn’t bother her and she said she liked it really hard. The second time, I spanked her until my hand couldn’t take it anymore. She took it por atras after the first time and was really into using beads and a vibrator. I always slipped her 100K afterwards. I certainly could have had a freebie if I wanted. The only question would be if I had continued to get them. But I liked her and was happy to give her my money.

2:30 AM - After our first session, we walked from the place I was staying in the old town, to Elektra. I had a drink with Yennifer and scoped the place out a bit. It was pretty dark and the music was grating on me, so I decided to get some fresh air out front. I would definitely say hanging out front of Elektra around 3AM is the best piece of advice I could give anyone for several reasons. First you escape the music. Now I know this is subjective thing, but honestly, I really don’t understand how people can enjoy electronic music without having had a partial lobotomy first.

But even if that music is your cup of tea, there are other reasons. You get to watch the women arrive one by one (or by 2 or 3) in taxis from LDV and the light on that street is pretty bright so you can get a decent look at them, unlike inside. And you can buy some gum or cigarettes from the vendors outside and offer them as they come in.

A lot of women asked what I was doing out there and I told them I was there to greet them. They took my gum and laughed and kissed me and told me I should come inside. I was enjoying more watching them come in one by one, and I had already had my fun for the night. After a while, I got tired and headed back to get some sleep.

TUESDAY

I spent some time on the Bocagrande beach having the taxi take me to Hollywood beach. I just wanted to take a walk on the beach and check things out, but man you really get accosted. I didn’t want a chair, massage, bracelet, drugs, chicas, etc. I walked about a quarter mile and realized the woman who had offered me a massage when I arrived was right behind me.

A guy came up and started handing me crab.
‘It’s good. How much is it going to cost?’
‘5K.’
‘Ok. 5K. I’m not going to pay more so tell me when I’ve eaten 5K worth.’
‘OK.’

A couple minutes later he tells me I’ve eaten 55K worth of crab and his buddy has shown up claiming he’s security. I ignored him and told the other guy I’d made it clear I wanted no more than 5K worth of crab. I told him we should take a walk on the beach and ask all the other vendors what they thought of him ripping off tourists, so that nobody would come back. I finally agreed to give him 10K, since I didn’t have a 5K note. I have to admit the crab was pretty good.

A got a leg massage a bit later for 10K from 2 women both named Shirley. They’re pretty good at those. One thing I’m pretty sure of; if selling sex was legal and selling massages was illegal, then the prices would be basically reversed. Those massages feel good.

9 PM - I thought I’d check out some of the clubs in the old town, walking distance from where I was staying. I started with Queens Club, which I had passed the night before and was around the corner from where I lived. 10K to enter. Fine. I walked in the same time as a blond woman who could have passed for a gringa. I agreed to buy her a wine, which I quickly regretted as it was 15K and she had bad breath.

I sat down with her, but found the place really aggravating with loud electronic music and annoying flashing lights and a large video screen playing that program about the playboy mansion. There were maybe 10 women there. Most looked OK, but I really couldn’t tell with the lighting there. I asked blondie about prices there just out of curiosity. Rooms were 10 or 20K, chicas 300K. I dismissed myself after a few minutes as I couldn’t stand the place. Definitely a waste of 30K with my drink. It was the worst place I visited in Colombia.

9:30 PM - I walked around a bit looking for Tu Candela and Babar. Babar wasn’t open until Thursday and then somehow I got redirected to Isis. No cover so that was good. More electronic dance music, but the atmosphere was better than at Queens Club. I bought a beer for 8K. I started chatting with a woman at the bar from Santa Marta. She was a hottie. I was soon dancing with her and enjoying looking at her. She seemed to have no underwear and the jeans were kind of sliding down showing her crack. I could feel that the cialis I had taken the previous day was still working.

I was getting ready to ask her what she thought of coming back with me for 100K, when she told me prices were 270K for an hour and 500K for the night. I said I’d think about it and she was gone. Yennnifer told me later she used to work there and got fired for getting high in the club (She was getting stoned most of the time I was with her) She said the owners a gringo from Texas who owns Pleyclub as well. Apparently the guy does quite well. Prices are ridiculous though.

10:30 PM - I headed over to Bananas. A guy had given me a card earlier and said there were about 30 women there. I arrived and there were less than 10. What a surprise. Most of them would be below a 5, but there were a couple that were a 6 or 7. There was no cover and I liked the music and the beer was about 5K each, so I stuck around to drink and dance before heading over to Elektra.

There was this one woman sitting at the bar who probably should have been the poster child for not going into hooking. She was probably in her 30s or 40s but just looked beat down by life. She sat alone and had this scowl on her face the whole time, which just kind of said ‘Don’t ^%$^$^ with me’. The 2 better looking women said they were cousins although one looked like an Indian and the other like a gringa.

At one point early on I started asking about prices, mostly out of curiosity.
‘How much is it to go to a room here?’
‘They have rooms across the street.’
‘How much do you ask?’
‘How much would you want to pay for the night?’
‘Seven Hundred Thousand Pesos.’
‘Seven Hundred Thousand Pesos?’
‘Seven Hundred Thousand.’
(Pause) ‘OK.’
‘Come on, you know that’s ridiculous. How much do you ask?’
‘200K usually.’
‘It’s a lot.’
‘I stay a long time.’
‘Maybe later.’

I stuck around there for a while dancing. I liked the atmosphere, certainly a lot better than Queens or Isis. At one point I asked if she would be interested in having a 3some with her cousin. She went and consulted with her cousin at one point who was with a gringo. She came back and said she couldn’t do it. Fine, I was just curious. At the end I took her number and email and we said we’d get together at some point.

2 AM - I headed out of Bananas and started heading on my way over to Elektra. I met a street guitarist on the way over and started singing with him for a bit. I told him to come over to Elektra. We met a fairly ugly street walker on the way over and the guitarist was chatting with her a bit and then later told me she was asking him for 40K, and said he wished he could afford her. I was really surprised he didn’t ask me for the money. But he was a cool guy and we hung out in front of Elektra as the women started arriving from LDV.

When Yennifer arrived I took the guitar and started serenading her asking her if she would be going to the islands with me tomorrow. She said sure and off we went to my place for an evening of pleasure before a day in the islands. I gave the guitar man 10K as I left.

WEDNESDAY

I was amazed we got up on time to make the boat to the islands, but we did. My mistake was organizing the tour with the touts who hang around the dock. Better to go to the office, I think. It was kind of a rushed tour and it left an hour later than they said and there were a bunch of costs that weren’t mentioned earlier.

Yennifer was in constant need of weed so she had one of the tout’s friends make a run for her. He never made it back and she said she was going to have one of her police friends go after him, but she was more distraught at not having weed for the day. Luckily she found some when we were at the Playa Blanca.

We had some interesting conversations on the island. She was telling me she spends about over 4 million pesos a month (more or less $2000) on expenses. I wanted to tell her that she should save her money, that this couldn’t last forever for her. She was planning on spending 6 million pesos for a boob job, not to enlarge them, just to firm them up. I’m not really sure why. They seemed OK to me. She was telling me that probably 60 to 70 percent of the women at LDV are lesbians and it made it easier for them to do their work.

‘What about you? Have you ever been with a woman?’
‘I tried it once, but just with a friend for fun to do something crazy.’
‘But you’ll go with clients with more than one women.’
‘Yeah, but I don’t really touch the other woman.’
‘Do many clients ask for that?’
‘Not very often.’
‘That’s a big fantasy for a lot of men.’
‘Yeah, but they think it’s going to be like in the porno movies, but it’s really usually much more tame, like the 2 women just take turns with the guy.’
‘You took the words right out of my mouth.’

I don’t know if that translates literally in Spanish, but she laughed at it. She knew what I meant. I asked if she would go to bed with me and another woman or two … but like in the porno movies. She said OK, she’d do that for me. We started talking about who would be the possibilities at LDV.

She brought up a woman named Gia. Gia probably stands out more than any woman at LDV. How attractive you think she is would definitely depend on your tastes. She’s the least Latin looking woman there and has her hair done up in this really unusual style that looks like something out of Vogue Magazine. I knew who she was talking about right away when she described her.

Yennifer said Gia really had the hots for her and sometimes when Gia was on ecstasy or really drunk she would get really intense about grabbing Yennifer and be really jealous when she was talking to guys in the club. Yennifer said she was just too intense for her sometimes. Every time I would bring it up after that, she’d alternate between saying she’d be up for a 3some with Gia and then saying Gia just freaked her out too much. To me, it sounded like it would be fun, and I was curious to see how things would turn out.

Afterwards, we went and crashed at my place to recover from the previous night. We woke up around 3 in the morning. She went to Elektra and I opted for more sleep.

THURSDAY

Can’t really remember the day, but I thought I’d start the night out at Banana’s, for dancing and drinking. Selection was as poor as before, but I had a good time there. Around 10 or so, I headed to LDV. I decided to hang out near the entrance and started chatting with a woman who looked kind of Russian. She said a lot of people told her she looked Russian. We chatted a while and were having some good laughs.

Yennifer walked in and I gave her an earring she had left at my place. She headed into the crowd. I told the Russian looking woman that we were probably going to have an orgy tomorrow and if she wanted to come. She said she had never really done anything like that. I tried to talk her into it a bit and she seemed to be curious.

Gia walked in and I said something to her, but she just kind of walked by like she didn’t hear me. The Russian woman and I had some laughs about this. I told her Gia would probably be at the orgy, but I’d have to get her to acknowledge me first. After a bit I went over to Gia and told that we were having an orgy the next day and she would be the guest of honour. She seemed to not quite follow what I was saying but in the end agreed that it sounded pretty cool.

I found Yennifer and was telling her that the other two women were cool with the idea of a 4 way, but I was getting a bad vibe from her. I quickly just decided that she had lost interest and wanted to move on to other things. Fine, I thought, there are other places I want to try anyway. Usually nothing comes of these orgy conversations anyway. I headed out the door for Pleyclub in El Bosque.

11 PM - I guess I just hadn’t been to El Bosque before because I couldn’t find it on the map and it seemed like it might be a dicey area. But I arrived at Pleyclub and the area seemed alright. I was told this used to be called Pleyboy, before the actual Playboy threatened to sue. I think there was no cover, but the drinks were expensive.

I started chatting with a pretty woman I met at the door and came to sit down with me. I was soon told an hour or so with her would be 200K. I think her rum and coke was something like 20K, so I didn’t stick around long enough to get her another one. She did give me her number on a very romantic piece of heart-shaped paper. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to call. The lighting in the place made it bit difficult to see, but the selection seemed pretty good, although not worth the prices.

12 AM - I asked a taxi driver if anything else was nearby. He had a discussion with another driver and they determined that Venus is now closed, but they knew of another one called Club Ligeros about 5 minutes away, so off we went. I entered and passed something like a stage with a pole on it with couches surrounding it. The women were all scantily clad. The only beer they had was Becks for 10K, so I had one.

A fat lady in regular clothes, who was obviously the manager, brought over a woman to sit with me, but she really wasn’t attractive and I kind of dismissed myself. Another woman sat next to me; Julia from Medellin. I found something about her really sexy. She was somewhat dark, very petite and had her hair drawn back like a ballerina. We drank and joked for a while. I think she was pretty lit as she spilled her rum and coke on me at one point. But I had fun talking to her.

At one point the conversation turned to orgies.
‘Would you be willing to have one with some of the women here?’
‘Maybe with some of them.’
I looked around. ‘How about her?’
‘That’s Diana. I’m friends with her, but I don’t think she’d go for something like that.’
Diana looked really innocent. She had a really cute girl next store face. It almost seemed out of place that she was in a bikini, but she looked good in it. I called her over and she sat next to me.
‘Is it alright if we corrupt you?’
‘What?’
‘We want to corrupt you. We’re thinking of the three of us trying some wild things. How does that sound?’
‘That sounds kind of fun.’

The rest of the night in the bar was fun, with Diana snuggling with me and Julia kissing me. Unfortunately Julia was giving me something ridiculous for prices like 200K each and 70K each for the house. I told them maybe we could meet outside at some point and both said they’d really like that. Julia didn’t have a cell, but Diana did and Julia had her give me the number, which she did very clandestinely. Julia seemed to be the one who wanted to negotiate. So I left thinking that was at the least a fun place that I’d like to go back to.

FRIDAY

During the day I took a trip to the mud volcano which was one of the strangest and coolest things I’ve ever done. I would definitely recommend it. Yennifer stopped over unannounced later in the day. I’ve picked up from these forums that this is a common habit of the women there. We brought up orgies again and she said it still sounded fun. I said I’d probably go to LDV that night, but later on I just decided I needed an early night. Man I wish my body could handle several consecutive wild nights like it used to. In my younger days, all I’d do is drink, certainly too much, due mostly to not getting laid.

SATURDAY

2 PM - I had been trying to call Diana from Club Ligeros, but there was never a response (again something very common). I was taking a taxi from the center to Castillo San Felipe and I asked the driver if he knew a club in El Bosque. I couldn’t remember the name at that point. He brought up Pleyclub, but I said that wasn’t it. He said he knew of another called Casa Rosario and said he could take me there if I wanted. I didn’t think that was the name, but I thought it would be better to look for the place in the day, so off we went to El Bosque.

So first we went to Casa Rosario. It was pretty full already at 2PM with a lot of women. Most were decent looking or better from a quick observation and the place was fully lit by daylight. But I wanted to find the place I had been before (Club Ligeros) so the driver consulted someone. Was it el Marino? (I’m not quite sure of the name he gave, but it was something like that). But I wasn’t sure, so off we went. We arrived and I could tell it wasn’t it. But I thought I’d pop my head in. There were only 2 women there. I think they were decent but it was at a bit of a distance.

The driver asked someone else. Was it Club International? I didn’t think so, but let’s try it. We pulled up and I realized that wasn’t it either. But I decided to take a gander inside anyway. I liked what I saw. I walked up to a really pretty looking woman who introduced herself as Adriana.

She had another good looking friend next to her who she introduced to me. I think her friend was kind of scowling but then smiled at me when I said hello. I thought ‘man, these 2 are hot. I want to come back here.’ But I wanted to do some things in the day and find Diana and Julia, so I told them I’d be back later. Driver talked to someone and said there was another place……..Club Ligeros. ‘Yes, that’s it.’ I told him.

So we got their and I was happy to finally find it. It was funny; there were about 10-15 women there and they literally cheered when I walked in, led by the fat manager lady. I didn’t want to really stick around, just to see if Diana would be answering her phone and find out if they’d be in that evening. Julia convinced me stick around long enough to buy her a drink. I headed out with plans to return in the evening.

The driver told me most of the places in El Bosque were about 150K per hour, which I figured could be cut to a shorter period for a lot cheaper. I found out later that club International was 120K for an hour. I was starting to think I should have been coming to this area earlier in the week. If you don’t mind probably being the only gringo, this is the area where you want to be. I know it was for me. Unfortunately I found it a week into my trip.

7 PM – I was having a drink at my place with the following plan; go back to the places in El Bosque, try to negotiate a shorter session, leave a decent propina, in the hopes that they’d want to meet up later after work hours. Then I’d go to LDV and see if Yennifer would join me and maybe bring a friend or two. It was an optimistic plan, but I figured I’d be having fun one way or another. Then Yennifer showed up at the apartment and told me she wasn’t going to LDV that night.

‘That’s fine. Let’s go to some clubs then. We can pick out some women to come with us for our fiesta.’
‘Where do you want to go?’
‘Club International and Club Ligeros.’
She kind of put her nose up. ‘I don’t really like that place.’
‘I was there today. There are some pretty women who seemed cool.’
‘You were there?’
I told her the story of getting sidetracked on my way to the castle. So she said she’d join me.
‘But the places won’t get going until later on.’
‘I was there today around 2 and they were full. I want to go soon.’
‘Alright, but I need to go change.’
So off she went, and I waited delaying the start of my evening longer than I wanted, but I figured it would be fun to have her come along.

9:30 PM - After Yennifer returned, we taxied on over to International Club. The place was a lot darker at night and there were fewer women in the place. They were playing electronic music and I asked if they’d play salsa, which they switched to for a couple songs. I saw Adrianna and had her come over to sit with Yennifer and me. I didn’t see Adrianna’s friend. Adrianna actually looked better in the daylight than in the dark. But I knew she was pretty from seeing her earlier.

We chatted a bit and I asked if there were rooms there. Yes, 120K for an hour. Would she come up with Yennifer and me? She said no because her girlfriend, the other woman I met earlier, would be really jealous. Yennifer explained to me earlier that there’s usually a jealous one in these types of relationships.

I asked Adrianna if she and her friend wanted to have an orgy with Yennifer and me the next day. She said yes, that would be fun, and she didn’t throw out a price, so I took that as a good sign. She gave me her number. Adrianna then headed off to speak with her girlfriend. In hindsight, I think I should have tried to negotiate a shorter time with her and her friend in one of the rooms right there, but 240K just seemed like a heavy starting price and I figured I’d just do better the next day having them come by.

Yennifer and I headed out after a drink. We passed Adrianna by the door and she gave me kiss and told me to call her. Her girlfriend was there too. She was scowling, but managed a smile and kiss when I said hello to her.

10:30 PM - Yennifer and I taxied on over to Club Ligeros. She said she didn’t like the last club (International), that it was dingy (which it kind of was), but she’d be cool with getting together with Adrianna and her friend. At Club Ligeros, we found Julia and went to have a seat outside. Diana wasn’t working at the time. New rules prohibit smoking inside. So we had a couple drinks outside. Julia and Yennifer got along well. They discussed the pros and cons of their jobs (Julia had less expenses and was able to save more money, Yennifer had more freedom). So I brought up the idea of an orgy. Julia said the next day would be good.

‘Diana and I will meet you. There won’t be an exit fee to pay tomorrow, but it will be 200K each.’
‘That’s really a lot.’
‘That’s the normal price.’
‘I’ll think about it.’
So we left it at that and I said I’d call the next day when we left.

11:30 PM - We headed over to a place in Getsemeni called ‘El Havana’. This isn’t a mongering place, but it’s cool. Live music most nights and most everything they play there is either Cuban or salsa. Good food too. We ate and listened to the music and enjoyed the atmosphere. Yennifer said she’d be happy to have our little fiesta the next day. We stayed about and hour or so and went outside to look for a taxi.

There were a lot of people outside and there was a woman who recognized Yennifer and came over and started getting in her face with sort of a ghetto rant. I couldn’t really follow what it was about, but I kind of picked up something about 5000 pesos and showing respect. I was trying to make light of the situation and singing and dancing around them. I pulled out my pepper spray and sort of motioned to ask Yennifer if I should spray the other woman. She laughed and shook me off (I wouldn’t have actually done this).

I then pulled out a string of anal beads that I had with me (I had been very optimistic about using these at one of the clubs in El Bosque). I dangled them between Yennifer and the other woman. Yennifer certainly knew what they were and the other woman seemed to as well, because she started laughing at them. That seemed to end the confrontation. Nothing like a set of anal beads to diffuse a tense situation.

1 AM - We headed over to Bananas. Yennifer was in agreement that the music there was good but the women were pretty poor. We hung out a while there drinking. Yennifer had someone make a weed run for her and smoked at the bar. I was thinking of asking the two cousins that worked at Bananas to come to the orgy as a backup but decided against it.

3 AM - We headed over to Elektra and had a drink there. Yennifer was looking at this guy and I asked if she liked him.
‘Yeah, he’s Italian and he’s really good looking, but I won’t go with him because he never pays anyone.’
‘He never pays anyone?’
‘No he always get freebies.’
‘Wow. Impressive.’
I told Yennifer I wanted to get some sleep and she did too, so she came with me.

SUNDAY

10 AM - My last full day in Cartagena; I told Yennifer I was going to go try calling the women from the clubs. I said I wasn’t going to pay 200K each though.
‘They’re not going to come if you don’t pay.’
‘I’ll talk them into it.’

I went to the phone booth and tried Adrianna from International Club. I could barely make out the number. I think she was drunk when she wrote it and it was in the dark. I tried it and got voicemail. I went to withdraw money. I called again and got voicemail again. I called Dianna from Club Ligeros who answered. She put Julia on the phone and we figured out a meeting place as this restaurant near the clock tower at 1pm. I said I’d buy them lunch. She said they’d be there. I went back and told Yennifer and she said fine.

12:30 PM - Yennnifer and I headed over to the restaurant and ordered some food. I was battling a hangover and my food was not going down well. I had ordered there before with better results. Julia and Diana showed up sometime after 1. Maybe it was the hangover, but the situation just didn’t feel right to me. I was looking at Julia and thinking ‘she just does not look good in the daylight’. Diana still looked really cute. I was ready to jump over the table to have her. Julia and Diana ordered food and then Yennifer said she had to go check something on the internet and dismissed herself.

Then I brought up the matter of money.
‘200K is just too much. I’ll pay 100K and give propinas if it’s really good.’
Julia: ‘That should be OK. But you’re going back on what you said.’
‘I didn’t agree to it. Look if it’s not OK, we don’t have to do this.’
‘No we want to.’

Good, that was settled. We chatted a bit longer, but as I sat there I felt the hangover was getting stronger and Julia was getting less attractive. After a bit, I just decided I wasn’t up for this. The energy just wasn’t there. I told them and they seemed disappointed, but said it was OK. Then I was wondering what happened to Yennifer as it had been about a half hour since she left.

‘Did you understand what she said? I thought she said she was coming back. Or were we supposed to go get her?’
‘She didn’t really say if she’d come back. She just said she was going to check the internet. She was really cool last night but, but she’s acting very strange today.’
‘Well, let’s go check the internet places and then go to my place. She’ll probably go there eventually.’
So we checked the internet places and she wasn’t there and then went to my place to wait.

At my place, I’m not sure why, but my hangover seemed to recede, my energy seemed to return, Julia wasn’t looking all that bad, and Diana was making my mouth water. After a bit, I asked them if they wanted me to do a strip tease for them. They said that would be great. And one thing led to another and soon we were going at it, although it was mostly Diana and I together with Julia kind of watching. I liked doing it doggy style with Diana on the couch and making eye contact with Julia with my eyes saying ‘This is sooooo good.’ I got out a vibrator and crèmes and used them on Diana. They were scared of the anal beads. But we were having fun.

Then after about an hour, Julia asked me:
‘Do you want me to go down on her?’
‘Yes!!!!’
And with that it got really fun. Like one of those good porno movies. Julia and I went down on Diana together. We rimmed her at the same time. She had the cutest little culito and we were both commenting on it.
‘Que bonito culito tiene Diana.’
‘Si, muy sabroso.’
Diana was just moaning.
I got out a video camera at one point, but they weren’t really cool with that.
Then Diana worked on Julia with a vibrator.
After a good 3 or 4 hours we were tired out and kind of winding down when there was a ring on the buzzer.
‘Yennifer must have finally made it.’
‘Don’t answer it.’
I ignored it, but it rang a couple more times, so I answered. Up came Yennifer. Kind of an awkward situation, but I didn’t really care. Julia and Diana scrambled to get their clothes on as she came in which was kind of silly.

‘Where did you go? We waited for you.’ I really wasn’t sure at that point if she might have come back to the restaurant right after she left. She gave me a non-sensical answer.
I said ‘You missed all our fun.’ I went to hug her and she pushed me away.
I said ‘You’re pissed off. You probably want to slap me now.’ I held up her hand by the wrist and said go ahead. Pow! She slapped me pretty good. I think she felt better after that.

We went in and all four of us hung out for a while. Yennifer had some weed (surprise) which she smoked with Diana. I said I wanted a picture of the 3 of them so I could remember my wonderful days in Cartagena. They obliged and then I had Julia take one of myself between Diana and Yennifer. I thought ‘Man, I wish I were staying here longer.’ Everybody seemed cool. Sorry I’m not putting photos of them up. I don’t want to compromise anyone’s identity. As they left, I slipped Julia 100K, which she asked for and Diana 150K, which she didn’t ask for.

Yennifer and I went out for dinner that evening after Diana and Julia left. We went to a place called Café del Mar, which is really nice. It’s up on one of the walls surrounding the old town and has good food and good wine. She told me she was sorry. She just decided when sitting at that restaurant earlier in the day that she wasn’t up for an orgy. I thought that was kind of funny because I decided the same thing shortly after. It just happened anyway.

SANTA MARTA

MONDAY TO WEDNESDAY (Second Week)

After a week in Cartagena I took a bus to Santa Marta and arrived in the afternoon with the intention of visiting Tayrona Park. I had no intention of further mongering. I checked into a hotel and found an agency at one of the other hotels that gave full day tours of the park for 140K. Seemed expensive to me. I headed to Taganga to see if they arranged boat tours there.

On the way I met a Swiss guy who was sailing his boat around the world. A bit of a pirate. He was really gregarious and over the top, but I kind of liked having him show me around a bit. In the end he talked me into hiring some cycles the next day to go into the park to a more obscure area.

Then he asked if I wanted to go to some strip clubs that night. Sure, why not? First he needed to go out to his boat. He had his wife from Africa waiting on the boat while he went out during the day. So we went out on the pier and he whistled for his wife to come get him. It was a bizarre set up. On the pier, there were several people around, including three women hanging out and smoking weed. We started talking with them, and they worked in one of the clubs right near the pier. I think it was el Crucero. It is right near the main street next to the beach around Carrera 12. They all seemed pretty good looking. A couple of them left and I chatted with the other one a while. She said sex was her hobby. I told her we’d have to try the club out.

The winds were strong and my Swiss pirate friend gave up on his wife paddling in to get him. We went to my hotel and I showered and then off we went. He took me to a club called Bananas, 3 or 4 blocks south of Plaza Bolivar on Carrera 2.

In I went with my pirate friend. My pirate friend was a big guy with a lot of tattoos and spoke very little Spanish, but had little reluctance about getting in confrontations about prices. He said he’d be my bodyguard for the evening, but I thought I might be safer without him, given all the attention he drew. The music in the club was decent, but I couldn’t see too well and I was rather tired and planning to call it an early night soon. A black woman came and sat down next to me. I think my pirate friend called her over.

Pirate: ‘Ask her if we can both have her at once?’
Me: ‘My friend wants to know if we can both have you at once.’
She gave a sly smile. ‘Sure. That’s fine.’
Me: ‘Ok, good to know. How much is it here anyway?’
Chica: ‘An hour is 150K.’
Me: ‘How about a half hour?’
(She thought about it): ‘100K.’
Pirate: ‘What does she say?’
Me: ‘She said Ok, but I don’t think I’d be up for that, even on a good night.’

Threesomes involving another male don’t interest me and I think even if they did this pirate guy would be too over the top. I saw another woman I liked and sort of tried to ignore the woman sitting next to me. I watched the other woman walking around it a short blue halter top and mini dress. My pirate friend noticed and called her over to sit next to me and had the black woman sit next to him.

This was Rosa. Very sexy and cute and liked to laugh a lot. I was thinking ‘Damn, I like her, but I just don’t think I’m up for this tonight.’ The Colombian beer in a can was not going down well. Then we danced a together and I was feeling a bit better.

We sat back down and I asked about prices. I can’t remember exactly, but she told me something similar to the other woman. She also told me prices in dollars.

‘I don’t have dollars.’
‘Pesos is fine.’
‘There are rooms here?’
‘Yeah, right next door.’
‘They don’t cost extra?’
‘No.’
‘How much is the salida for you to leave?’
‘Let me go check.’
She went to ask and came back and told me she had to pay the bar 50K to leave.
‘If I pay it, will you come back with me?’
She kind of balked.
‘Do we have to have a price? Can I just give you something after?’
She thought a few seconds. ‘I prefer a price.’
‘Is 80K good?’
’80 K?’
‘Plus the 50 for the salida. 130K total.’
‘OK.’

And off we went to my hotel. I basically spent the next 36 hours with her, mostly f***ing and hugging and sleeping in each other’s arms. She was really sweet and we had a lot of fun together. The next morning the pirate came knocking at my door to head to the park and I asked her to come along. She did and I was grateful she did, because I think I would have been bored senseless otherwise.

There were 5 of us and we rented bikes to go to a really hidden part of the park, which was kind of cool, but we stayed in the same spot for several hours and had a picnic. I was mostly laying around with Rosa the whole time in our own space. At one point she was taking nude pictures of me and we were laughing about it. I hope she doesn’t put them up on the web site where putas compare notes on customers! I was wearing shades so I’m not too worried. I actually fell asleep lying in her arms on a large rock. I don’t think I’ve ever been so comfortable in my life lying on a rock.

After we left the park and went back to Santa Marta, we split up so she could go back to her place and change, before I got her to go out and eat. The pirate gave me a hard time:
‘You’re not in love, are you?’
‘Damn right I am! Falling in love with a puta is one of the great joys of life.’
‘I guess so.’

We went out to dinner around 7pm and had some nice conversation. Then we got a small bottle of rum and some coke (the drink, although she had her own powder) and headed back to the hotel. We were in room between 9pm and 11am. Very peaceful, fulfilling sex and deep dream filled sleep. She came with me to the airport the next day and I slipped her 60 US dollars as I left.

SATURDAY (Second Week)

Bogota

I was staying with people in Bogota who definitely wouldn’t approve of my extracurricular activities, so I wasn’t planning on doing any there, as I figured I’d had enough fun already. But my last night in Colombia, my host had something to do and suggested I hit Calle 93. Instead I got out Tung’s Chapinero map and tried it out.

9 PM - I started out on Caracas near Calle 73, a bit north of where the map starts. I went into Clapton Bar. It was upstairs and I ordered a beer. There were a few women here, not any good ones. I asked how many women worked there and they said 6. I headed out before asking about prices.

I headed down the street to Kukylandia. No entry. I kind of liked the setup. Good lighting, decent music and a big stage in the middle. Only a couple women, but they told me they come in around 10. I said I’d be back.

9:30 PM - I followed the map and went to Calle 72 to Chicas 2000. Closed at 9. I crossed the street to Chicas Milenio. I went in and it was kind of like a big waiting room with a bunch of couches. A woman sat with me on one of the couches. She was pretty good looking. Maybe a 7. I wanted to just feel things out. I was feeling kind of stingy. I shared my drink with her. I think she said it was 20K or 30K to go to a room.

‘Have you ever been with another woman?’
‘Yes, sometimes I do that if I’m paid.’
‘Do you ever do it for fun.’
She started laughing. ‘Yeah, sometimes I do it just for fun.’
She had a friend there she did it with sometimes and brought her out. I’d rather she hadn’t. The friend was not attractive. I said I just wanted her alone. I asked if photos were OK. She said for 50K. I said I’d come back.

I followed Tung’s map further south down Mariscal Sucre. It was kind of drizzly out. I’m not sure how the neighbourhood is. A couple other people walking alone made an effort to steer clear of me.

I got to the block between Calle 66 and 66A which Tung has Clubs 9 through 12 listed, all as Las Divas de Javier. They’re really obvious with bright lights unlike the other ones I was at earlier. I tried number 11. The guy at the door said no women were there and to try across the street. I tried club number 9. I was sat down and they had the women come one by one to say hello. The light wasn’t very good, but I’m sure that was the nastiest collection of women I’ve ever seen. I headed out quickly.

I walked in next door to club number 10 on the list. I went to a somewhat dark room and had the women lined up and introduced themselves. The lady in charge was this kind of biker chick with a bandana. I spotted a room across the hall with bright light. I asked if I could go there and get the hellos again. No problem.

The women weren’t attractive but they were a lot better than the place next door. I said I’d have a drink with one. She was kind of cute except for a bit of a large mole above her lip. I ordered a whiskey for her and a coke for me. We chatted a while; I think she said an hour was 35K. I decided against it and headed out to the disappointment of everyone.

I headed across the street to Club 12 on the list. You go up the stairs and a blond woman greeted me. She looked pretty good. I went to a darker waiting room and the women were brought in on a 1 by 1 basis. I didn’t like any of them. I told the woman in charge I’d buy her a drink. She said she wasn’t working. Great, the only pretty one and she’s the manager or something like that.

I had a drink and talked with another guy there who appeared to be doing nothing. I asked him about clubs and showed him Tung’s map. He said there were a bunch of clubs north of Calle 76 on Mariscal Sucre. Those aren’t even on the map. They’d have to wait for another trip as I had to be back by midnight. I took off and headed back north.

I headed for Kukylandia again. On my way back I passed this big white building with neon lights. I can’t remember the name now. I was curious what it was. Could Tung have missed this? No way. It was too obvious to miss. I thought I’d just poke my head in. The bouncer told me I couldn’t go in.

‘What? Why not.’
‘Women only.’
‘Women only?’
‘It’s a gay bar.’
‘Ahhh. OK. Never mind.’
I decide to stick to Tung’s map.

10:15PM - I arrived back at Kukylandia again. I wasn’t disappointed. The women had arrived now and from what I saw most were decent. Definitely better than anywhere else I had been that evening. I spotted one at the bar. She looked really good from the side. I caught her attention and waved her over. She looked even better close up. Angelica 27, from the coast. This woman was really hot and seemed younger than 27. Beautiful face, nice smile, great body. We chatted a bit. There were rooms there: 80K for an hour, 40K for 20 minutes.

‘How about a half hour?’
‘60K’.
‘Can you give me a discount for an hour?’
‘No.’
‘Please.’
She went to check with the guy at the bar. She came back and said 70K. OK. It wouldn’t have mattered to me if she said no.

What can I say about the hour? It was great. I put the faceless pictures in the photo gallery (post 1929). She was almost flawless other than a small caesarean section and she was very sweet. I was a great last session for Colombia, but I was really regretting not being able to bring her back for the night and not being able to come back the next day as I was leaving. Just a taste………

She told me it was the beginning of a nice friendship. Oh, the pain of going back home! I gave her 20K when we left the room and then bought her another drink and then gave her another 10K. I was no longer feeling stingy at all. I kept telling her she should be a model in complete sincerity.

And thus ended my first voyage to Colombia. As I was waiting in line in the airport in Miami on the way back home, I was behind a gringo couple. The women was pretty hot. They were arguing quietly about something having to do with going out on her birthday and when they got to security she gave a big fake smile. I just wanted to say to the guy ‘Man, that is soooo not worth it.’ Poor guy.

Hopefully it won’t be too long until my next voyage. Hope you’ve enjoyed the story.

Hello everyone,

I am a regular in Brasil and would like to give Colombia a visit later this year. I have started reading a bit the Colombia board and it sounds quite interesting. My main concern is safety. How safe is Colombia to visit? I aint no pussy, as I travel frequently to Brasil and Rio who is not a walk in the park, but I feel that Colombia is on a different level in terms of safety and danger. Can the Colombia regulars shed some lights into the security and safety issue there?

Another dilemma I have is where would be a good place for a first time visit to Colombia? Can anyone post a comparaison between the major destinations in Colombia such as Medelin, Cali, Bogota and Cartagena and post the + and -of each cities and how they would compare against each other? I would really appreciate it.

Thanks a lot.

Thanks a lot.Common sense and typical street smarts, dont be a belligerent nasty gringo, dress down, call taxis when you can and stay out of the bad areas.. NEW MONGER in Colombia? Go to CTG or a Mansion, VIP establishment in MDE where you will find other mongers with the same likes and in the same shoes as you!

Good Luck!

Of course you travels are documented nowadays! What do you think, the U. S. Would just let people come in and out and not notice the person who travels to Beirut or Iran very frequently for "vacation"? Come on man wake and smell the coffee. That doesn't mean that they necessarily know what you are doing there.

Thanks for your reply, Cabroncito.

I don't drive, don't go to bars or out late at night. I try to avoid confrontations. I've been in Thailand for 13 years, want a change of pace. I was looking at Medellin, but a poster on another board recently moved from Medellin to Pereira, and found it smaller with less traffic and pollution, but with good infrastructure. I'll be down that way in May.

Even that I do belive that the things Cabroncito is writing about, actually do happens. There is a far softer/better side of the town where you can be a tourist. With absolutley no problem at all.

How do I know this?

I know a white gringo (stands way out in the crowd) who have been living and working in Pereira for two years now. Never had a problem.

The guy is not a "street smart, know-it-all dude". Just a guy like you and me. And he loves the city, and have no plans of moving out of there.

Clearly, like in any city in any country, there are bad neighborhoods, just as there are good neighborhoods.

So bottomline, If you want to go there, don't hesitate. Just use common sense, be polite and have yourself a good time.

No reason to keep away from following your dreams and desires.

Have a good trip and a fun vaccation.

Ken Apples

It is rougher on the edges, differences are settled the old fashioned way. I have only met two gringos there after many visits and it was through a mutual friend.

About your question, I was eating with a friend upstairs in Bolivar plaza and we hear a loud crash. A taxi hit a motorcycle sending the driver to the ground (it was not clear who was at fault) After he realized the bike was okay, he responded by shooting the taxi driver and female passenger in broad daylight with about 500 horrified witnesses. This is not a bad area either.

I have also seen guys beating girls outside of nightclubs on two separate nights while the doorman turns a blind eye. Also you will see quite a few signs posted on telephone poles looking for people who have disappeared.

I keep a low profile so I have never had and issue with anyone. In fact I have many close friends here and find the city quite enchanting.

Manizales is a better choice though if you have weak bladder.

I do not think Pereira or Cali should be avoided. Just do not "stand out in a crowd" by being loud, belligerent, and wearing shorts and a gold chain.

Colombia's peso dips to lowest level since July 2006

Mon Feb 2, 2009 7:37pm GMT

BOGOTA, Feb 2 (Reuters) - Colombia's peso <COP=RR> currency closed on Monday at its weakest level against the dollar in two-and-a-half years, dragged down by global risk aversion and expectations for deeper interest rate cuts, traders said.

The central bank, in an effort to stem the peso's slide, staged its second $180-million auction of "call" options in as many days.

The peso ended down 0.44 percent at 2,446.5 per dollar, a level not seen since July 2006. Monday's loss extended its slide since the start of the year to 7.87 percent. In the last 12 months, the peso has weakened by 24.77 percent.

Orlando Gonzalez, an analyst at the Banco Popular bank, said risk aversion due to the global slowdown and expectations for further interest rate cuts were pressuring the peso.

"(Those factors) are contributing to the dollar's tendency to firm," he said.

Colombia's central bank cut its benchmark interest rate by 50 basis points for a second consecutive month on Friday, and policy-makers hinted that more reductions were likely.

Getting ready to pull the plug on the USA. Thinking of moving to Colombia.

I need some info on getting my pension and social security checks in Colombia, Right now I have direct deposit on both and when I travel I use ATMs with no problems. Also I hear you are only allowed 6 months a year in country. Is that true?

Either a PM, a post or web sites would be greatly appreciated.

Peirera is like alot of smaller towns. Everybody knows your business, there is not a whole lot to do. Especially during the day and the pro scene is hit and miss as the girls are in Cali, Bogota or Medellin earning money. That said, if your Spanish is good there is fun to be had in the smaller towns.

Personally, I like Cali as healthy competition seems to ramp up the enjoyment factor.

I wouldn't change your checks, having them mailed to Colombia. Just leave the set up as is, use the ATM's. At least in the U. S. You have FDIC, and don't have to worry about them being lost or stolen in the mail.

Delays and paperwork on recovering lost checks.

I just got an email from the Colombian Consulate in Atlanta, with the documents required for a Pensionado Visa. Not much, about the same as for a Tourist Visa. Said the fee is US$175, but waived for Americans and a few other countries.

Check the web, see if there's a Consulate near you.

Keep your US banks, and continue to use ATMs. Colombian banks suck the big one.

Thanks in advance, VicMy recommendation is to keep your checks being deposited in the U.S. bank and withdraw from an ATM in Colombia, just make sure you have a card that has little or no fees like Capital One.The banking system in Colombia is terrible and until you get a cedula I don't think you can even open a bank account in Colombia.

Yes,you are only allowed a total of 180 days per year and when you enter Colombia your passport will be either stamped for 60 days or 30 days depending on the mood of the agent, almost always 60 though. You can have it extended to 90 days by paying a few bucks at the DAS office in Bogota, not sure if there are other ways to get an extension.

I am in the process of applying for an investors visa which is pretty simple but you have to invest $100,000.USD (I am buying a house) which will allow me to stay 5 years and then I can renew it.

I strongly recommend that before you "pull the plug" that you spend considerable time visiting Colombia for extended periods of time if possible to get to get a feel for the MAJOR cultural change you are going to have to deal with along with everything else.I am moving to a beautiful city in the coffee region, the people are wonderful, the city is beautiful as I said but make no mistake about it Colombia is a third world country and certainly has its issues no matter what part of the country you are in.As one of our fellow mongers wrote, "You're Not In Kansas Anymore".P.M. me if I can be of any help.

Good luck.

And things change on a regular basis. If you marry or have a common-law wife, permanent residence takes 3 years. If you hold a Rentista VISA, it takes 5 years plus you cannot have been out of the country for more than 2 months in any of those 5 years. With the Investor VISA, you get permanent residency now.

All VISAs are granted by MRE. How is your Spanish?

In a rush to pay tax? That is a whole other issue. Most Colombians pay no income tax. That is why the VAT is so high and why there is an asset tax. You pay those taxes whether or not you are permanent.

I am not sure that permanency triggers any income tax. But then most Colombian accountants, lawyers, and government officials including DIAN agents do not know either.

As you intimate the folks who should know don't. But an internet search found two sources, one, iirc, by deloite, which stated that as a permanent resident, or after 4 years temporary residence, one becomes liable for tax on one's world-wide income.

What happens if you allow your temporary residence to lapse then start it again I have no idea.

Any information you've got I'd really appreciate a pointer to.In Colombia you have the law that is written and the law that is enforced. They are rarely the same. One example comes to mind: capital gains resulting from the sale of residential property. Very few Colombians report the real sale price. And attorneys and accountants are complicit in this under reporting.

I have been filing Colombian tax returns for maybe 5 years now. I just use a Colombian accountant and let him worry about the laws.

I think that you can apply for and get a Pensionado VISA while you are in Colombia. It doesn't matter if your income is from a pension or disability. I know of people with an income as low as US$750 per month qualifying for this VISA. This VISA is issued for 1 year and can be renewed indefinitely.

Got any more information on this?First-do not rely on anything I say.

Second-use a good Colombian accountant.

Some kinds of passive income may be exempt under some circumstances.

I really don't want to write any more about things that may or may not be enforced.

I may be able to apply at the Colombian Embassy in Bangkok, if it's still operational. I live in Pattaya, and someone in Bangkok said they'd check for me. Failing that, I will apply at the Colombian Consulate in Atlanta, which I have been in contact with. I prefer to do as much as possible before I enter Colombia.

My question about disability payments had to do with the fact I get a disability pension from the VA, and Social Security disability insurance. I don't have to pay U. S. Tax on these, and I hope I won't have to pay Colombian tax.

Thanks again,

THE RECENT TRAGEDY OF A YOUNG WOMAN BEING KIDNAPPED AND EVENTUALLY KILLED; AFTER SHE HAD REPEATEDLY GIVEN THE KIDNAPPER A WRONG PIN TO HER ATM CARD. IF SHE KNEW THE METHOD BELOW, SHE COULD HAVE BEEN SAVED. SO I THINK IT IS IMPORTANT ENOUGH TO20LET YOU KNOW.

IF YOU SHOULD EVER BE FORCED BY ROBBER TO WITHDRAW MONEY FROM AN ATM MACHINE, YOU CAN NOTIFY THE POLICE BY ENTERING YOUR PIN # IN REVERSE.

FOR EXAMPLE IF YOUR PIN NUMBER IS 1234 THEN YOU WOULD PUT IN 4321.

THE ATM RECOGNIZES THAT YOUR PIN NUMBER IS BACKWARDS FROM THE ATM CARD YOU PLACED IN THE MACHINE. THE MACHINE WILL STILL GIVE YOU THE MONEY YOU REQUESTED, BUT UNKNOWN TO THE ROBBER, THE POLICE WILL BE IMMEDIATELY DISPATCHED TO HELP YOU.

THIS INFORMATION WAS RECENTLY BROADCASTED ON FOX TV AND IT STATES THAT IT IS SELDOM USED BECAUSE PEOPLE DON'T KNOW IT EXISTS.

You are dead wrong. Good thing that you are not a betting man.

Colombia poses a much different set of problems than any you will experience in the US. I have a friend sleeping right now in my guest bedroom who had a gun to his head in Envigado, a ritzy suburb of Medellín, a few months ago during a home invasion. He gave them his PIN and lived to tell about it.

I could tell you about another friend who was kidnapped coming in from the Rionegro (Medellín) airport at gunpoint. And I could tell you many other stories about crimes committed against people I know.

I suggest that you take very seriously the warnings about Colombia. But that does not mean that you cannot come here and enjoy yourself. The tourist zone in Cartagena is the safest area in all of Colombia. I would suggest that newbies go there first. After getting your feet wet in CTG, you could branch out to Medellín, Barranquilla, Bucaramanga, or Bogotá. Only after getting to know the lay of the land, should you go anywhere else in Colombia. Fly between cities.

These are only some very short suggestions, and there are some exceptions. I have certainly not covered all the bases.

Fear just might keep you on your toes. It is not a bad thing.

Yes, there are many cities in the USA That have a lot of crime but the percentage of poor, desperate people in almost any city in South or Latin America is much higher than ANY city in the USA And that is what makes traveling to these places inherently more dangerous. I live part time in Manizales which is the "Mayberry" of Colombia and last month my novia's brother and four friends got robbed by nine guys in broad daylight near the Parque Plaza which is an upscale mall and she got pickpocketed two days later while we were in the same mall with me standing right beside her.

I'm not saying it's totally safe there, but from the travel alerts, combined with smart and alert travel practices, I'm convinced it's perfectly fine to go. Just to be sure though, some of you dumbasses are spreading enough negativity that I'm sure my trip will be unnecessarily less enjoyable because of the unwarranted fear.

First of all, I'd like to see a poll of the mongers on this board that have been mugged, had a gun to their head, or kidnapped, or know a wingman that had the same happen. I'm not a betting man, but I'll bet you that out of the 1000's that go, the number is so low if any at all, the "on gringo" crime would be like crime in Mayberry.Thank you for your kind words, and I highly suggest you just keep thinking this way. Also make sure you where nice watches, gold chains, diamond rings, and show the attitude you are in your post. I am sure you will be just fine.

I know a Gringo that was murdered in Colombia. I bet many others here knew Robert Vignola.

I know Gringos that have been mugged and had guns to their heads in Colombia. I also witnessed an armed robbery at a restaurant I was eating at in Colombia.

You certainly are very opinionated for somebody that has never set foot in Colombia. Have fun, Bob.

I had to look up RV. Doesn't come across as the cleanest player:

I've been to Medellin four times, and, fortunately, have never seen or
experienced any crime, and have walked around most of the city during the day. Having said that, I don't walk anywhere at night, with the exception around Parque LLeras, and do not wear any jewellery, and only basic jeans and T-shirts. One should never forget for a minute that Medellin was once the crime capital of the world, and while it is a lot safer, stuff can still happen, so always take care when travelling (which is true anywhere)

Wake up there is more crime at Home.

Colombia is like going to Church. Give a few bucks to help the needy.

Come to California, Arizona and Texas. Lots more crime along the Open Border.

Found out that you can get a VAT refund. Go to the DIAN office at the airport and they will give you a form (in English). It takes a few minutes to fill out and make copies of receipts. I'd recommend getting the form when you arrive or a few days before you leave. Then you can fill out the form on your own and make copies of your receipts.

They will ONLY refund CREDIT CARD purchases. They will NOT refund cash purchases. They send the refund to your Credit Card and it takes about 3 months to get there. You will need your Credit Card receipts and your sales receipts. Your minimum purchases need to be equivalent to about $1, 000 US (before VAT) and I can't remember the max. IIRC the items needed to be purchased within the last 60 days.

At the DIAN office and on the back of the form, is a list of things that are IVA refundable. Clothing, shoes, perfumes, leather goods, CDs, crafts, liquor, food for human consumption, toys, jewelry and Colombian emeralds.

I'm planning a short trip to Bogota on March 16-19. In finding a place to stay, I've narrowed it down to (1) Hotel VIP and (2) www.suitesreal.com/85.

I understand that Hotel VIP is obviously chica-friendly, but do Suites Real 85 charge a fee if you bring back a guest?

In addition, would there be any preference as to location? I can always take taxis and safety of location is a big factor.

Thanks for your help.

However, my guess is that you would have a better chance of having your credit card information stolen by someone in the DIAN office than getting any refund.

I've had the good fortune now of living in Colombia for 3 years. Medellin is a wonderful city, friendly people, and if I never set foot in the US again, I can care less. Don't misunderstand me, I do wish the US all the luck in the world! I'm just happy in Colombia!

Last weekend the Mrs and I decided to drive over to Sante Fe for the weekend. Santa Fe unlike Medellin is a tropical environment and we just wanted to stretch out by a good pool and soak up some good, hot sun for the whole weekend.

We stayed at a very nice hotel about a mile east of Santa Fe. Sunday morning about 4:30am the Mrs turned on the room light and started to walk out on the balcony. The instant she slid open the door about 150 bees flew into the room. She was stung twice on her right hand, and I was stung once on my stomach. Needless to say we got the hell out of there in a hurry!

We checked into a different room and the hotel people retrieved our things from the infested room.

Again, Medellin is not a tropical environment. Though our place is air conditioned, it hasn't been turned on in 2 years. Yes, we occasionally sleep at night with a window open and have experienced no bug problems.

I guess I am just saying, be careful as there are hidden dangers!

For those of us that can read Spanish, there is a useful site dedicated to the scene in Lima. The site is PeruTops.com.

Are there similar sites for any of the major cities of Colombia?
