Again you are a presumptuous jack ass. I was nearly making an observation I saw in other mongering places when I referenced Russians. My wife is a very dark Mexican, I PREFER LATIN above all else. My favorite mongering spot currently is Tijuana. Honestly people like you in general keep racism alive a lot more than me. Stop blaming me for being racist because you have poor English skills.Hurry and attend your wedding in the DR, then skip your as back to CR and Tijuana. The DR has to many big assed beautiful women of assorted colors except snow white, for you to even be there. Consider your DR pass revoked after your wedding. Next time you consider posting your bullshit in the DR forum, remember ill be waiting. My presumptuous ass is going to make you a permanent sport. Is my ebonics improving yet?

I have been searching the internet looking for one place where all mongering options in the DR are gathered. I found the following website the most complete, but I wonder how up-to-date it is:

http://www.sexcation-review.com/Travel-Caribbean-DR.html.

Comments, pleaseMust have posted at the wrong time as everybody started to get excited about racism and politics, so I am refreshing my question.

You obviously have issues, you can have your room you bring nothing of interest to the table anyway. I found exactly what I needed elsewhere I'm sorry I stirred up your Daddy issues, it is normal to feel like I'm your Daddy because I own your ***** ass, but try not to confuse me with your real father who obviously taught you to put your dick in anything with a pulse. Congrats on fixing your ebonics problem, it's well worth dealing with your moronic ass knowing I made the US a little better.

Comments, pleaseI haven't checked out the website you linked to nor do I need to. Just based on your question ("one place where all mongering options in the DR are gathered") the answer to that is Sosua. Just start in the "Links to Reports of Distinction" thread of the DR forum and read all the reports that have anything to do with Sosua and you'll be good.

I been talking to a chica online for a while. I been learning Spanish off and on. I read and write Spanish (without a translator) better than I listen or speak it. I been keeping the conversation simple with 4 to 5 word questions or responses. She want to meet me, but I'm worried once we meet we won't have a good time because I'm bad at understanding Spanish by ear. Only thing may help is she knows in from the US and learning Spanish.

In person, you can say say "Que?" or "Como?" or both."Despacio" (slowly),"Hablar despacio porfavor, no entiendo."= "Speak slowly, please, I don't understand." Sometimes its better not understanding everything they say, let them yabber and you don't really have to think too hard about what they are yabbering about, LOL.

Sure it will help her that you are from the USA and all us gringos are millionaires and their saviors. If thats the case know in advance what you are getting into and that it might be a superficial relationship and I don't know if that what you are looking for. Another crisis with my novia whom I have lived with for the past 2 and a half years. I put a block on my cell phone. 8 digits on every function on the main menu. It is not written down any place, nor would I believe she saw me use it. Because the same thing happened months ago, I upped from 4 to 8 digits. Can anyone tell me how she breaks into my phone. She found all my the #'s of chicas I have been in contact with for some sports action. Now she wants to know if I plan to move out or change my behavior. Since I am in my mid-60's I tell her I am too old to change my mongering ways. So, back to my question, how does she do it without my security code? She thinks that since we live together, nothing is private. WTF?

If she has access to your phone long enough to bring it to one of the local phone stores they surely could unlock it. Tell her if she touches your phone again you're packing your shit and moving out because the pond is big and there are plenty of fish in it.

Try a different SIM card from a different cell phone company, or change your password every couple of days. I am no expert on SIM cards and I don't know how much info may be stored on a SIM card. Definitely have a password to access the phone's internal memory and call features, if your phone has a micro-SD memory card you can probably password protect it.

As MiamiHeatLuver previously posted, you can have a second cell that you keep hidden from the main GF, to use for mongering purposes.

She want to meet me, but I'm worried once we meet we won't have a good time because I'm bad at understanding Spanish by ear. Only thing may help is she knows in from the US and learning Spanish.I have noticed that after I am immersed in an all spanish environment for a few days to a week I start to parse what people say a lot better. Even if I don't fully understand, I know what they are saying in spanish. I could transcribe it. When you first hear dominican adults talking it's very rapid and run together but it doesn't take that long before you adjust and can separate the words. It's still harder to speak. It's even harder to speak over the phone where you can't use gestures and see expressions.

It doesn't matter so much with a novia. Just learning gives you something to talk about. I had pretty complex conversations with a haitian novia who could hardly speak spanish either but spanish was the closest common language as I didn't speak kreyol or french and she didn't speak english. Google translate is getting very impressive so if you have the app on your phone you can sit someplace that has wi-fi and use it like a star trek translator.

Anyone know the best methods to get to the Samana region from Santiago? I'm thinking about driving versus taking the bus. It's unclear if I would need to drive through Sosua or Santo Domingo or if there is a short cut.

Thanks

Coming down from December 1st through the 4th. Based on the following criteria, what would you all that know pick as your best three hotels:

1. Girl Friendly.

2. Internet.

3. Price less then $70. 00 a night.

4. Walking distance to the action by Jaragua.

Thanks and if you can state why on your choices that would be a huge help to me and others that aren't in DR often.Move this to the Santo Domingo section if you want a better response. In fact if you read that section I expect your questions are already answered.

ThanksWhich is a bus that carries about 35 or 40 people. The bus leaves several times a day from a location close to the city hospital. Cost is about 300 pesos. It is a long ride. Heads south beyond La Vega then takes a back road through San Fransisco Macoris then many small towns to connect with the new Santo Domingo highway to Samana. Be prepared to mingle with local color. The other method is to take a bus like Carib Tours from Santiago to Nagua. From Nagua, I suppose the buses are guaguas to Samana. Be first in line for the front seat on the upper deck and the scenery is spectacular. The norh coast is awesome, Happy trails.

I always tell it to save it to my sim card because if the phone breaks any numbers that aren't saved to the sim will be lost. When I come home from a trip I also add any numbers of girls I surely don't want to lose to a list I keep on my computer. Jao I like your idea about switching sims, personally I would just tell the see*t to keep her mitts off of my phone.

ThanksOne time when I stayed in Cabrette I drove to Samana and then to Las Terrenas spending the night before driving back. If you go all the way to Samana you need to go to Las Terrenas which is very beautiful. If driving from Santiago I would go through Puerto Plata 1. 5 hrs to Nauga 2. 5 hrs and then to Samana 1. 5 hrs. Takes about 1 hour to continue on to Las Terrenas. The roads are generally good with the worst being between Santiago and Puerto Plata. Lots of little towns to drive through so the worst time would be late in the afternoon. It takes about an extra hour to drive the same route if you drive it in the afternoon.

I do believe that Las Terrenas is the most beautiful part of the Dominican Republic.

You can get a very cheap Sim card reader that will read the number and text messages stored on the card, also I think the code is on the phone not the card, so if she pops your sim into her phone she might be able to read everything.

Put the numbers in as a variation on guys names, for example Maria can be Mario, Luisa... Luis, Angela... Angel. That's what I've done with my nosy live in.

The "codes" using guys names in change of girls names does get very confusing and the girls aren't that naive anymore and may vet the numbers. I suggest the 2nd phone method. Therefore no confusion or mixups or odd times when you cannot answer, or your chica asking a lot of the questions we are always asking them, like "why is your phone always on vibrate or on silent" je je LOL

p.s. make sure you turn OFF and hide well the 2nd phone before you get home. Can you imagine that shit ringing when your with her or unexpectedly? YOU ARE DONE!!! No excuse will get you out of it..

One phone is for my job, and the other is for everything else. My employer prohibits me from using the work phone for non-work matters, and gets the bill directly. Now, I also have an AT&T go phone for girls who don't get the real number. LOL. That phone is password protected and not on in mixed company.

I am not in the DR, but elsewhere in Latin America nobody touches my phone without asking. Of course, I have never lived with any of these chicas. I have spent weeks at a time traveling with them, though. They hound me sometimes to buy them phone credits, but they don't mess with my phone. The concept I have trouble getting them to understand is the concept of having a job, which entails doing X at Y time, and being unavailable for N hours. That, they just don't get. "Can't you just do that later?" No.

My problem is not the cell phones; it's the laptop. No, I don't have Messenger on my laptop. No, you may not put Messenger on my laptop. No, I am not on Facebook. No, you may not check your Facebook page. No, I am not interesting in seeing your Facebook page. I tell them the same thing about the laptop that Professor1 tells them about the cell phone; it's my employer's property and can only be used for work purposes. I tell them my employer monitors the usage.

The difference is, I'm lying.

Aeropostale shirts are popular in the DR. Aeropostale always has online sales, some of their t-shirts can be purchased for around $5US. The shirts come enclosed in plastic with a price tag (the price on the tag is not the price that was paid buying it from their website).

ATT on their website sells the Pantech Link refurbished cell phone for $25US. This cell phone can be unlocked in the DR to use there, with SIM cards in the DR. It is a popular gift because it looks like a Blackberry.

This question for some of you two-wheeling DR veterans: I'm coming down for my first visit in February. May spend a bit of time in SD or the North Coast but want to spend a lot of time in the campo. And want to do it on a motorcycle.

Can anyone give me the lowdown on renting bikes. Having lived for a long time in SE Asia, I'm happy with anything from a 125 Honda or perhaps a bit bigger.

Appreciate any tips, guys.

Thanks

ThanksI only rent scooters but my friend rents NEW Suzuki 125's. Next to Europa on Pedro Clisante there is a place called CINDY and that's where I always rent mine. They will take your passport as collateral and are not to picky with their bikes but take a picture of it prior and go over and damage with him. We pay $20 a day. My friend is a nut and rode his 125 to Santiago! LOL. He said it was pretty hairy riding through the mountains but did it no problem.

The chicas I know park their scooters inside their homes. Dominican thieves could easily pick up up a scooter or 125cc motorcycle and throw it into the back of a pickup truck. Does the rental place give you a chain and lock?

But your best bet would be to flip then an E-mail and they will confirm one way or the other.

According to xe. Com it would have been $18, 450 so it was really favorable. I did that last time too when I was here. And it's secure with a guard at the door. Just in case anyone was wondering or cares.I live in the heart of the city near the rotunda, and I use a casa de cambio on las palmas close to duarte viejo and got 38. 41 last week. Also, I topped of my cell with Ezetop, they charge. 88 for their service, but got 38. 60 to 1. The dollar gets you a lot more lately.

there are no laws in the dominican republic, until you hurt someone. then you could be in deep shit. i've yet to see a speed limit sign. drive with a beer in your lap, no problem.traffic accidents often result in serious injury or death. this is often the case when heavy vehicles, such as buses or trucks, are involved. traditionally, vehicles involved in accidents in the dominican republic are not moved (even to clear traffic) , until authorized by a police officer. drivers who violate this norm may be held legally liable for the accident.

dominican law requires that a driver be taken into custody for driving under the influence or being involved in an accident that causes serious injury or death, even if the driver is insured and appears not to have been at fault. the minimum detention period is 48 hours; however, detentions frequently last until a judicial decision is reached (often weeks or months) , or until a waiver is signed by the injured party (usually as the result of a cash settlement).

visitors to the dominican republic might want to consider hiring a professional driver during their stay in lieu of driving themselves. licensed drivers who are familiar with local roads can be hired through local car rental agencies. in case of accidents, only the driver will be taken into custody

Lots of checkpoints throughout the city, with AMET and Policia Nacional. Traffic can be super slow. Many taxis in santo domingo. Let the chicas sit in traffic and have them visit you.

For travels outside the city then I would recommend a rental car. Rent from the big companies, pay extra for at least the third party insurance and you should be fine. I have been told many times that there will be no jail time when I rent from alamo.

I don't drink and drive here. Plenty of people do. I will not give these police or amet any excuse to bust my balls.

I took a shitty taxi last night and paid around 200 pesos for a short trip, my rental car was in the parking garage (I was out drinking).

All of these verbal fistacuffs tell me one thing, not enouh dudes are getting laid.

DR is a corrupt country. Stop.

Be careful renting a car. Stop.

If you get into an accident and someone gets hurt or dies you the gringo will get fleeced. Stop.

Thats said, if you obey laws, are a decent driver or rent from a reputable agency you minimize your chances of getting in trouble.

Don't drink and drive and for short distances whithin the city?

Consider a taxi

Consider hiring a driver, you can prob get one for 30-50 bucks a day. Less hassle.

Greetings Everyone,

I recently cleaned up this thread by deleting a number of off-topic and otherwise pointless posts, as well as a number responses made by other forum members to these deleted posts.

This cleanup process is not perfect, and it's possible that I may have inadvertently deleted a few otherwise legitimate posts. If you find that your own report was also deleted, please don't take it personally.

I will get to meet the Chocolate jackhammer in early April, although I really don't want to see the jackhammer itself.

Did get a chance to hang out with Frannie this last trip and we compared notes; he won.

I have yet to meet the infamous Sir Charles; but I will keep trying.

As for you, I would have paid big money to watch your drunken ass trying to hand out presents to those kids. I'm sure the kids were wondering,"What in the fuck happen to Santa?"

I have a live in Novia in my place in the capital, I have wifi and a computer in the house plus I travel with my laptop. The Novia uses the house computer as her own and we video chat, etc when I'm not around.

I have an application that screen captures and logs all things typed and sends it to the internet where I can read it from anywhere. She's an angel, I have all her passwords and have checked everything for the past few months and have not encountered anything.

Even when guys on Facebook try to chat her up she always tells them she has a spouse (down here when you're living with someone you gain husband and wife status, don't actually like that but it's ok).

Anyway, my birthday is coming up and she's been searching the classifieds for what I assume will be a comfortable chair (recliner) for me, and when recently she's been checking out the ads on mundo annuncio for lesbians. I think I might be in for a threesome with the novia. I've had 3 somes and 4 somes before but never with the novia. If it happens, I will post the gory details and photos if I can.

Good Morning Fellas,

I've been a lurker for a little over a year (mostly on the Brazilian board). My brother is getting married in the Virgin Islands in March of 2012 and looking to set up a party or take the (male) wedding guests to a place that will be unforgettable: fine women, lots of drinking, tons of sex.

I understand this is the DR board, but I've been told that it's not very far from the Virgin Islands (better yet, that PR was closer).

I am interested in some fine ass girls (fair skinned & dark skinned) , a place to meet them / host the party, prices, and a solid contact in the DR, PR, or VI who could get us set.

The female wedding party will be in the Virgin Islands, so island hopping may be best for what I have in mind. I want my brother to go out with a bang (4 some, blowjob contests, etc.). If someone could post a reply or link to point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it.

I know for a fact I can put real names of alot of members on Monger boards just by their relationship with certain putas. Every time someone posts a comment on the girls photos or wall I see them there. LOLROFFL I love watching Mongers sending Western Union to Putas and their relationship status is, 'Its complicated¨ then about a month later no more relationship, apparently the money got cut off. You can adjust you settings so NOBODY can send you a message or even request to be your friend,"chatting up with her" in my opinion means an attempt to talk via the chat function via FB. Or else you would have to just send her PM's

Planning a trip to DR in Feb and perusing the sites I noticed that Red Diamond Girls lists bareback FS (requires client is tested) as an "extra" service from some girls. While the idea of going bareback with a prostitute scares the hell out of me, I'm curious if these types of things are common in the DR: 1. Agency pros getting tested as a marketing tool for mongerers and 2. Chicas offering bareback FS as an extra.

As an aside, the Outcall prices for RDG are nuts.

Yes, bareback sex is easily available in the DR-that is part of the reason why you see so many children, but whether you should avail yourself of the opportunity is another question altogether. In my opinion, and presumably that of others, bareback sex is almost infinitely more satisfactory than sex with a condom, but on the other hand sex with a condom does protect against conception, AIDS, herpes, and other infections such as hepatitis, syphilis, gonorrhea, clamydia, etc.

Here's my opinion. It really is not worth the trouble of getting AIDS tests, etc. Just so that you can have sex one time with a new paid partner or someone from an agency, because chances are that the sex won't be that great anyway on a one time basis. On the other hand, if you meet someone and have sex with her a couple of times and decide that you want to make her your regular sex partner, then you have to face up to the fact that you aren't going to be satisfied long-term with the reduced level of intimacy provided by condom sex, so you might want to consider both of you getting AIDS tests and her going on the pill (if not already) and that once you have done that have an agreement that neither of you will have unprotected sex with someone else while this relationship is in force.

In general ISG contributors don't favour longer term relationships and are best advised to stick to condom use, but there is most likely some divergence between what people say they do online and what they actually do when the pants are down.

When I first came to the DR several years ago, I knew an expatriate retiree who had lived in the DR for two years and had sex with a couple of hundred chicas and who told me that he had not used a condom with any of them, and had not caught anything. Most people would regard that as rather reckless. He eventually got a Dominicana pregnant, married her, and they left the island together, hopefully to live happily ever after with their child far from the DR.

I can rent a car for 2 weeks. So, anywhere on the island.About three years ago I rented a tiny Chevy Spark and drove to Las Terrenas in Samana for the weekend with a woman from Santo Domingo. I stayed two nights at the gran bahia el portillo all inclusive hotel (nice hotel, gran bahia operates at least two other all inclusive hotels in Samana). On the Sunday before returning to santo domingo, I drove with the Dominicana to playa rincon. It was at least an hour drive from las terrenas. Three years ago Playa Rincon was a beautiful, practically empty beach (there are a few beach shack restaurants at the west end of the beach). On another day, I had lunch at Baraonda Restaurant in the Hotel Alisei, there were a few Argentines working at that restaurant, food was good. If I return to Las Terrenas, I would consider staying at the hotel alisei, http://aliseihotelspa.com/ Or the La Dolce Vita Residence Hotel, http://www.ladolcevitaresidence.com/. Las Terrenas also has villa and condo rentals.

Bayahibe east of the town of la romana is about 2 hours from the santo domingo airport and is a cute small town with a nice beach. In Bayahibe you can get a boat to go the island of Saona. DR Tourist site: www.godominicanrepublic.com/

If you get tired of the heat, you can head to the center of the country, where it is slightly cooler. La Vega in February, every weekend for carnaval is popular. Costanza looks like it is a nice mountain town (I have not been to costanza yet). Alto Cerro is a hotel in Costanza. www.altocerro.com/

See Mongerpedia. Com entry under Worms, Can of, Opening.

He eventually got a Dominicana pregnant, married her, and they left the island together, hopefully to live happily ever after with their child far from the DR.Most chicas I have been with for awhile have tried to establish a relationship as a novia. Which is characterized by 1) You don't have to pay for sex 2) you don't have to wear a condom. Of course you will still pay one way or another for sex and be responsible for the consequences of barebacking. But in my experience it's not just available but eagerly promoted by chicas who want to take the relationship up a notch. Personally I still didn't stop using condoms leading to repeated sad "It's up to you papi" expressions of willingness.

Hey all,

As many of you know I see some dirt cheap flights into STI but they arrive at an absurd hour. I know its been answered before but for an up to date price. What is the cab fare from STI to PP? Does anyone know any cheap hotels in STI that I would be able to check into so I wouldn't have to travel to PP at 0130?

Thanks.

DokerI was on one of those flights in Nov, getting in at STI at an obscene hour. I stayed over at the airport as recommended by a person who is (was a local) and flew in with me. There were couple of others like me hanging out as well. I only got out of the airport at the crack of dawn. (the report under santiago). Long story short, I did not brave it out at night....

DokerThere is a number of "High End" cabanas less than 10 minutes from STI airport you can stay in until the morning for RD500-1000 Pesos.

Then grab a taxi to Caribe tours.
I have a very dependable driver in Santiago if you want to go to PP @ any hour for a fair price.

I will be staying at Blackbeard for 3 days then maybe going to Sosua for the remainder of my week in the DR. Would it be wise to rent a car for a day or two to take a Chica on a day trip? Is so, where would be somewhere interesting to go, and where should I rent a car near BB.

Thanks in advanced.

JJUnless you have experience in driving in the 3rd World, or specifically the DR, that can be very risky.

Be very careful, constant alertness, no sharp turns (motoconchos entering your path from the rear as U-turn).

If a motoconcho does something stupid and runs into you, it WILL be YOUR fault, and the cops will have their hands out for bribes.

Not to mention payment for the other guy's medical bills, vehicle, etc.

They can make things very ugly for a gringo.

If you must rent, rent from a national chain, not a local.

I always used Budget at the airport with great service,. Get the optional liability insurance.

If you have any problems, you can take it up with the company when you get back. With a local place, you're screwed.

The cabs in Costambar are a rip-off, but they have a monopoly.

You might want to take a motoconcho to the main road and get a cab there.

Puerto Plata has a restored Spanish fort from about the 16th century. There is a cablecar just outside POP.

The beach promenade or Malecon is not bad for a stroll.

The office at BB can advise you more.

If you can find a cheap solution for transport (split with another couple?) Puerto Plata can be okay to spend a few hours.

JJI agree with Yanqui. Be aware of the risks of renting a car. Make sure your insurance includes access to the Casa del Conductor. If you are involved in an accent (even if not your fault) you can be arrested and held in some hellhole for days while they sort it out. If your insurances recognises the Casa del Conductor you will be held instead in a sort of motel with access to phones and food. Plenty of info here on car renting if you search. If you are only going to Blackbeards and Sosua I cannot see that it is necessary. Plenty of very cheap public transport accessing anywhere you might want to go. If you are here a month and exploring the interior then a car might be necessary.

Another place to visit is Isabella, site of Columbus first* recorded settlement in the Americas. Not too much to see, really. *His first was probably in Haiti but as that was made of wood it soon disappeared from view and no-one now knows where it was.

The chicas welcome any chance to get out of the hotel for a change, but they are not really interested in culture although they may bullshit guys that they are. Anywhere you take them their main interest will be in the souvenir shop for you to buy them jewellery at double the price you would pay in Pto Pta city.

Its about a 3 hour drive west. Need to look for it on a map.

Very underpromoted in my opinion.

Was a brief Spanish colony settlement in 1493. That's right 1493.

Not much but a small museum with objects, and the stone foundations for the first church in the new world and Christopher Columbus' house. The only personal residence he had in the new world. (As viceroy in Santo Domingo he had an official residence).

The girl I was with was not interested, and I think the DR govt overlooks a great historical site.

The girl I was with was not interested [in Columbus]Probably she just wasn't interested. As I said below they are not usually interested in anything beyond money, food, and the latest trashy street fashion from the US, though a few may fake interest.

But another issue is that Columbus is no hero to many Dominicans and even less so to Haitians. Those that have some slave ancestry (85% of Dominicans and 99% of Haitians) will know that he was responsible for introducing slavery to the island. And the "pure-blooded European" Dominicans who like to hype up the nation's Spanish roots and downplay the African connection are in an awkward situation. On the one hand they try to explain Dominican skin color by saying they are descended from Indians and romanticising their (largely bogus) Taino past, but on the other hand they want to make a hero of Columbus for introducing Spanish culture, conveniently downplaying the fact that he and his followers virtually exterminated the Tainos within three generations.

Many Dominicans cannot bring themselves to speak Columbus' name. They cross themselves to ward off the devil and call him simply "The Admiral". For more about this read the opening chapter of Junot Diaz novel "The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao" published in 2007 which won a Pulitzer and also American Book Critics prize.

Greetings, I've been on the board for awhile, as well as, another board and always appreciate the good info provided. Just thought I'd try to get some help with a dilemma I'm facing. I have some time coming up where a can take a trip and I can't decide where to go. I did a few calculations and for about the same budget (not including airfare because I will be using miles) I have a few choices.

Option #1. I can do an 8 day DR trip. 3 chics per day (ST I rarely do LT) probably splitting the time between SD, Blackbeards and Sosua. Option #2. Because of the extra flight time and the time I have available, A 5 day. 2 chicas per day trip in Rio. Or OPtion 3. Check out Colombia for the first time.

Background. I have been to Rio once. Enjoyed it. Have been to the DR about 8. 10 times most recently in Nov 2011. Really enjoy it and feel comfortable there. Never been to Colombia so I don't know what to expect or if it would be more difficult to truly have fun since my spanish is minimal and I'm travelling solo.

The Brits with their pox infested blankets to the native Indians; Arabs. Marauding black Africa. In modern times, Dubai is a classic example of slave labor. Heck, I even saw Singaporeans (ab) using their Filipina maids to limits and beyond. And while we may commiserate with the exploited, they too given half an opportunity, would ostracize their own. Caribe Tours might be a little easier to find in Puerto Plata. If you are heading to Santo Domingo on a weekend in Febrero, you may want to think about stopping in La Vega for Carnival (carnaval vegano). Santiago has some events for carnaval, but from what I have been told Carnaval Vegano (carnival in la vega) is the best in DR (chicas from different parts of the DR visit la vega for carnaval). The journey on caribe tours and metro buses from puerto plata to santo domingo, will pass santiago, la vega and bonao. Problem is you will be traveling with luggage (you could get a room in santiago for a weekend night and then commute the 20 minutes or so to la vega).

If you are in the city going to a game is a must do (if you get tickets of course, every game is usually a soldout). Most of the players are in MLB so you will also enjoy quality baseball. The Caribbean Series began February 2 until February 7 in Santo Domingo, some major hotels are fully booked for these days. Melia is going to be the home of Puerto Rico baseball players, Venezuela in Barcelo Lina, Mexico in Occidental Embajador and Dominican Republic in Dominican Fiesta. I will try to get a ticket for day 1 or 5. I will be in SDQ Feb 2 to 3 and 6 to 7.Never once had a problem getting tickets outside Quisqueya & Cibao on day of any game- don't pay extra.

I went to my first Patronali (spelling) in San Jose De Ocoa, it's an annual festival for the patron saints or the town. This fiesta was off the hook, the town square had kiosks all around that sold all sorts of liquor, food and trinkets. You could barely walk there were so many people, Music at every corner. And the women, OMG. Every girl is dressed to impress.

Every town supposedly has one and I suggest if you get the chance find out where one is and go. The chicas are incredibly easy to get, I picked up 2 girls and went to the local hotel (el Barcon) but the hotel price was super inflated 3k per night, it was comfortable but nothing to write home about. The girls were locals non pros 20 something, gave them each 1k the next morning and had breakfast with them. Hung out the rest of the day with Nury (don't remember the other girls name) she took me to her uncle's house which was a little north of the town, had lunch of roast chicken with rice and guandules, drank some more with him (his nickname was boracho) , his wife and nieces and nephews. Had a great time. Will be back next year. It is for one week every year in January. I think it is the 3rd week of the month, with Friday and Saturday being the big nights.

Hi everybody,

Traveld a lot and knew places arround the world. So my first trip to DR in August this year.

1. Need a place on the beach.

2. Need cheep sex LT ST. Easy to hunt.

3. Safe location.

Had a super time in the phillipines, Cuba, kenia, Cambodia, vietnam, ethiopia, gambia, myanmar, etc. Etc.

Any recomendet place in the DR?. There are so many places here and I prefer a quite mongering place. Daytime on the beach. At night a local bar.

Thanks a lot

Thanks a lotSome guys like boca chica (beach town. 10 minutes from santo domingo airport). Supposedly lots of Italians in boca chica. Many guys like Sosua (beach town, ten minutes from puerto plata airport). Boca Chica and Sosua have freelancers, with whom you negotiate the price and those towns also have places that have set prices (massage houses or casa de citas in boca chica and Passions, CMP in Sosua).

Blackbeard Resort on the beach in Costambar, Puerto Plata (about 45 minutes from Puerto Plata Airport, POP) , has set prices for ST and LT, in a safe, secure environment.

Bavaro and Punta Cana has many all inclusive hotels and new condo and villa rentals on a nice beach. Chica prices tend to be high in bavaro and punta cana.

Casa de Campo is on the beach in la romana, expensive place to stay (hotel and villa rentals) , there is p4p in la romana. Bayahibe is a small beach town about 15 minutes la romana, that has a small amount of pros.

There are other beach towns that will probably have some small amount of pros.

The two beach-towns with the most pros would be Sosua and Boca Chica.

Is johnny walker cheap in Santo Domingo? I have been seeing pics of Johnny walker, even Blue label which retails from 180-200+ USD. Somehow I can't see the avg dominican paying 6000-7000 pesos for Blue.Nothing imported is any cheaper in the Dominican republic. Try Brughal 1888, or look for Barbancourt Estate Reserve for premium local liquor around $1200 pesos. Brughal Anejo is a really great quality everyday rum around $250 pesos. JW Blue is a grossly overpriced decent blended scotch as marketing creation whose most noted fan was that master of subtle tastes Richard Nixon.

By the way, does anyone know the local price of Bailey's in DR compared to buying it at US airports?

Can I manage on 100$US a day long term, like for 5 months?

Including; renting a small apartment, food, restaurant, travelling, for me and my girl / friend (nonpro).

In Argentina it was practical to have a private healthinsurance, the price was like $100US a month, do they have anything similar in the DR?

I know you can overstay your 30-day DR tourist visa and then pay a fine on exit (I've done it myself and know many others do it).

But, although never heard anyone having problem, theoretically it is illegal, no? I mean if police happens to see your passport (in case of any trouble) , they could use that to give you some hassle, arrest, fine, deport etc. Though I never, ever heard any stories, have you?

So I was thinking, can you get a longer stay (tourist) visa with permit to stay say 3 or 6 months, from their embassy? (BTW, I'm on UK pass in UK.)

Cheers,

I live here on about $2600 a month, support a house. 3 kids. 3 dogs, a novia, and still have some left over at the end of the month. This also included a few trysts outside of my home. On this kind of money, close to 120k pesos, you could live like a king, and be called by a novia, her king.

Cheers, It would be worth your time asking on a general dr forum like dr1 dotcom that has a lot of experienced expats. In general there is no legal problem, but your right to drive on your foreign license does expire after some period which could cause complications if you drive. I know people who have lived there for years just paying the fees on exit without any issues.

Cheers, There is a set list of charges for over stays, I'm sure I've seen it posted on this forum. With that said, I've stayed over many times and 1 never paid the charge and 2 never had a problem. If the cops stop you they don't ask for your passport (you shouldn't carry it with you anyway) , they ask for license, paperwork on the car, then their shakedown money.

After you clear security there will be line of counters where they check your passport to see when you arrived. If you are a frequent visitor and your passport is getting full, it might be a good idea to find your most recent entry stamp ahead of time as sometimes they point to an older one which could lead you to paying a higher fine.

Here is a list of the fines:

When you put your SIM card into your phone you will automatically have internet. However, as Gagoo explained to me, and I later found out on my own when it ripped into my ass, if you use the internet this way it will eat up your minutes before you can blink. Gagoo said there was a way to go online and subscribe to the internet through Claro, but I could not find how. I ended up going to the store in Boca Chica and the guy did it on the Claro computer. There are different plans you can get but you get more MB for your peso if you do the 1 day plan as you can see from the chart below (chalk it up to DR Math). The guy in the Boca Chica store said I would have to come back to the store to redo it each day. That was bullshit.

When I stopped in at a Claro store in Santiago to recharge my minutes the guy there taught me to add internet from my phone. And I shall pass this very valuable information along (remember it will subtract the amount of pesos you want for your internet plan from the credit you already have on your phone):

1. Dial *111# Send.

2. On the menu that comes up select "2 Servicios Opcionales" and Send.

3. Select "2 Blackberry Prepago" and Send. (It does not matter what type of phone you have."Blackberry" is pretty much the generic term for a smartphone in DR.

4. Select "1 Comprar paquete" and Send.

5. Select "1 Full" and Send.

6. Chose how many days you want. (As I said it is best to do 1.) And Send.

7. It will ask if you are sure that you want to buy your package. Select "1 Si" and Send.

8. You will now get a message saying that you have purchased "xyz" and you are ready to use the internet on your phone.

Plans:

200MB 1 day 50 pesos.

350MB 3 days 150 pesos.

700MB 7 days 325 pesos.

1.5GB 15 days 675 pesos.

3GB 30 days 1375 pesos.

5GB 60 days 2250 pesos

I usually use my atm card in PP and on each card I could get around 250 dollars a day. Last time I couldn't get but maybe 40 dollars out of the ATM for some reason and it was all in 100 peso bills. So my question if I go to the bank can I get money out? I have heard of people doing this but it doesn't seem possible if I don't have an account there. If so what do I need? And at what cost?

Thanks.

So my question if I go to the bank can I get money out? I have heard of people doing this but it doesn't seem possible if I don't have an account there. If so what do I need? And at what cost? You can go to any bank with your bank card (debit or credit) and passport (original, not copy) and draw cash.

One advantage is that you can ask for some small bills and / or coins. I will typically draw 15, 000 pesos and ask that it includes 2000 in 200s, 1000 in 100s, and 1000 in 50s. Sometimes I will ask for 1000 in coins. Sometimes they won't have exactly the denominations you want or, if busy, can't be bothered to count it all out, but this is very rare.

If you ask for 10, 000 pesos or less they might be a bit pissed and ask you to use the ATM next time.

Make sure you join the right line, usually signed "retiros".

Another advantage is I prefer to tuck my cash away into a zipped or inside pocket inside the bank rather than in public view in the street.

Third advantage is the ATM can't eat your card as occasionally happens in this country because of poor maintenance of machines, or fail to issue cash but still charge it to your account.

You will have to sign a little slip, enter your passport number, and brief address in the DR. Like many places in the DR, my apartment doesn't actually have an address, so I just enter some shit and they are happy with that. Once (only) I was asked for my celular number. When I queried that, the teller told me it was for some survey. (?)

What your home bank (in the US or wherever) charges will vary. Mine charges about 1.5% if I draw 15,000 pesos, but I also lose about another 1.5% on the exchange rate, but that 3% is worth it to me for the convenience and security of drawing cash this way in relatively small amounts when I want it, rather than holding a stash in my apartment.
Before you leave home for the DR you should advise the bank which issued your card that you will be using it in the DR otherwise they might block it after your first withdrawal, but that applies to ATM use as well. First World banks are very suspicious of any transactions to do with the DR because of the corruption and incompetence here.

I arrived in Santo Domingo on the 15th. I went to Nelly / Ace to rent a car. I had not made reservations. He told me it would be $55 / day. I said what? I always pay $23 / day. He called the office and they looked up my history. Okay. Your total for 9 days will be $226. That is more like it.

So for the past 9 days I have driven 1423km (884 miles).

I stayed in Santo Domingo for 2 days, driving to Boca Chica twice, Juan Dolio, out to San Pedro de Macoris. I went up the Samana Highway to get to Sosua. I stayed there 2 days. Then I drove to Puerto Plata and stayed there 1 day. I went down to Navarette for 1 day. I shot over to Santiago for the day and ended up in Salcedo for the night. I drove back to Santiago to pick my brother up then back to Salcedo to take my girl home. From there I went to Bonao and stayed for the night. Yesterday I drove from Bonao back to Santiago to drop my brother back off, then I continued back to Santo Domingo. I dropped the car at the airport today at 2pm. No scratches, no accidents, no jail.

The DR chica could not use that latest Iphone in Santo Domingo because supposedly she could not get it unlocked. Seems older model iphones can be unlocked both in the US and in the DR.

I've been reading all the comments about semi, pro, and non. I have an advantage as I was friends with the owner of 360 and actually helped him set the place up and worked there a few nights for fun Here is my take.

Pro: Casa Chica: one girl I know, very pretty, works almost everyday she has at least 25 clients per month. She's told me she's made upwards of 40-50k in one month before, so that equates to more than 25 guys in a month, unless she gets the to pay for extended time, but I'm a friend with privileges (don't pay) and she will stay with me for extended periods of time, sleep over spend the day with me. She states she does not do that with most guys because she doesn't feel comfortable. She will leave me to go to a paying client, as I don't want to impede on her making money. With that said, I assume an average of 25 per month for a total of 300 a year. She's been doing this for around 4 years, so more than 1200 clients. Covered sex / anal, BBBJCIM.

Semi: Another girl, has a novio, he bought her a condo, she goes to school for legal studies, and screws on the side to make extra spending money. She picks up about 3 guys a week when he is not in town. He is only around about 3 months per year. She screws around 90-100 guys a year. Covered sex / anal, BBBJCIM. She's been semi pro for 3+ years and was pro before that (don't know how long). Her count is around 500 lifetime at a minumum,

Non-pro: My girl, met her when she was 18 almost 19 in a rural area, took her to live in the big city (she had never been there before). I have an apartment that she takes care of. I have keyloggers on the computers in the house, I have tracking info on her cell. The landlord looks after my interests when I'm not around (but I'm here 75% of the time). This girl is 100% not running around on me. Past novios 6 (I'm thinking around 10 is the real number) , we've both been tested for STD's and AIDS, she is on the pill and everything is uncovered, sex, anal, BBJCIMWS. My girl, I'm sure her number is less than 20 guys.

Personally, it is all a gray zone with all women placed somewhere on the continuum. (wonder what women think of men in this context!). I TRY to have no expectation so there is less of surprise and recriminations. Also, I wonder, what happened to the trust factor. If I have to monitor the "non-pro" 24/7; the other vexing issue: should she be aware of that?

Send Gagoo a PM. I don't know anything about Apple Iphones. He met a chica in Santo Domingo who had the latest Iphone which was locked to ATT in the States. The DR chica could not use that latest Iphone in Santo Domingo because supposedly she could not get it unlocked. Seems older model iphones can be unlocked both in the US and in the DR.Yeah, that is my concern. I have heard of many unlocking 3G's, but not the latest which is 4S. I am very tempting of getting 4S because my brother sells it for $200, but it sucks if I buy it and can't use it.

Instead they put some type of thin chip over the SIM which they sell for $30. I was taking a guy from Canada around yesterday and we went to unlock his 3G phone. It could not be unlocked either. He said that it depended on the first few numbers of the IMEI of the phone as to whether it could be unlocked the bootleg way or if you would have to get the code from the carrier. I think it is getting to where most smartphones can't be unlocked the bootleg way. This website talks about going around your carrier's lock function the computer chip way. http://www.unlockiphone4help.com/how-to-unlock-iphone-4-4-1

But on other notes she chatted to friends to thank god for me, I was there to take her to the doctor when she was really sick and took her to the dentist when she had an impacted wisdom tooth. Running out to the pharmacy in the middle of the night, etc. She was complaining to her friend that her family did not help or even offer, but Gracias a dios, por mi novio.

I've been lucky with Novias from here in the past, and not have come across the bad element, and the with the pro's I know what I'm getting into and I do not go for the street walkers.

Has anybody been to Monte Cristi? I have been up and down the North coast, South coast and Punta Cana areas but never to Monte Cristi. From reading about this area there does not seem to be much to see other than the national park. I thought if I had a rainy day on this trip it might be worth the drive just to see more of the DR. Does anybody have any feedback on if it might be worth my time to make the trip.

Thanks

ThanksI had the opportunity to venture out to Monti Cristi a year ago in February with a Dominican friend who drove me. Not alot to see along the way, as you go from the green rice fields west of Santiago to an almost desert-like scenario as you head west. The national highway ends at the ocean between 2 mountain peaks you can see from many miles away, I'm assuming this is the park. Monti Cristi itself has little to see, the beaches not near as nice as the north coast. Visited an area where ocean water is pumped inland and evaporates leaving piles of sea salt because it is so arid there.

From there we headed inland to Dajabon, again very little to see until we crossed on foot into Haiti. That in itself is worth the 4 hour drive from Sosua. Words cannot describe what you will see as the border crossing has a large wall that prevents you from seeing the other side. We were only able to walk on the bridges that span the river as the gates were closed to traffic on a Sunday. From there we were able to take photos, it is an image that is burned into my memory forever and I would recommend the drive to see that alone. There is a huge market in Dajabon and many Haitians come across to sell their products and vice versa. I believe it is held once a week but on which day I am not sure. On Sunday various articles were being brought it to prepare for an upcoming sale.

On the drive home, be prepared to be stopped by police looking for Haitians being smuggled into the country as this is the only route they can take. I believe we were stopped and checked / questioned 5 times on our trek back. It as a full day but well worth the effort.

I use popalar Bank and you can get 10000 pesos which is close to 250 dollars. 5000 pesos is max at one time / 2 withdrawls per day.I quit using Banco Popular because it would always go over to my credit card as a cash advance where you are charged interest. Talked to others who had the same problem.

Next I tried Banco Santa Cruz which I liked until they limited their withdrawls to 8000 peso per withdrawl with a $5 charge per withdrawl. Withdraws had a nice mix of different denominations.

Curently I use Progresso which will give you the full amount of the daily limit on your card, the only downside being it is all 1000 peso bills.

These banks are all in Sosua BTW

Use numbers like 5900 and you will receive a 500 peso bill along with 4 one hundredsTrue. A few ATMs will only accept requests for round thousands, but they are rare. Even better is to use your card inside the bank. (You will need your passpost. A photocopy won't do). Then you can ask for whatever mix of denominations you want. I usually ask for 1000 in coins. 1000 in 50's. 1000 in 100's and 2000 in 200's, with the rest in large denominations.

Many people find their bank card won't work in an ATM. If that happens, try entering that you are withdrawing from a "Savings Account" rather than from a "Current Account". That might do the trick. For some reason many ATMs in Pto Pta and Sosua are set up wrongly in that respect. I don't know if ATMs elsewhere in the country suffer the same quirk.

If you are not worried about a few dollars like you say then why wouldn't you use the airport exchanges? They will probably cost you less than using an ATM card anyway. And airport exchange places are not always a total ripoff. It all depends on your destination. For instance the ones in the Philippines give a rate that is even better than the posted interbank exchange. The ones in Thailand come pretty damn close to that rate as well and there are no fees.

About a year ago before the Piano Bar was closed down, they had a few hot chicas working there.

I know Waleska, but I am looking for a light skin chica about 5'6' 100lbs very thin with a cute face and cute small butt that worked there.

Very good looking. Has anybody seen her around any of the casas or strip joints in the area?

I am going down this weekend for 6 days and would like to see her. I know they move around, but the real hot ones stand out.

With a few thousand pesos and when you return there will be no problem with getting from the airport to your destination. This is true, and here is another little tip that can save you a few dollars. Use the Banco Popular ATMs because you can get 10, 000 pesos at one time and always withdraw the maximum because the ATM charges a fixed fee of 112 (US$3) pesos per go, so if you just withdraw 1000 pesos, you will be paying an 11% surcharge, but if you get 10, 000 pesos, only 1%.

Jetblue has a few promotions ongoing. True Blue Points can be used for flights, using 25% less points, book flights by March 16, 2011. Buy True Blue Points and receive up to a 50% bonus (buy 20k points, receive 10k points as a bonus).

JFK to SDQ currently around 5300 points going and $33US in taxes and fees. Returning flight about 7200 points and $63US in taxes and fees. For an extra $25US each way, you can sit in one of the first four rows (which have more room).

My last trip I flew American Airlines, Boeing 777. The overhead bins on that Boeing could not fit 2 carry-on bags that most people were traveling with. On that AA, Boeing 777, there is a remote control / telephone built into the top part of the armrest, not very comfortable to rest an arm on that control (and possibly change the channel or the volume). Individual air vents not easy to reach and the Boeing 777 was a bumpy ride each way.

The Jetblue Airbus A320, bigger seats, overhead bins seem bigger and in my experience the flights were smooth.

AA has fares from New York to Santo Domingo starting around $330US, Delta sometimes matches that fare, Jetblue around $378US.

Jetblue shows Buenos Aries and Rio de Janeiro as destinations (using its partner airlines). Jetblue flies into San Jose, Costa Rica and Bogota, Colombia.

(ie atm at playero in sosua).

BARCELO HOTEL A++ Hidden Gem.

I just came back from SD and stayed 4 nights at the Marriott and I tryed the Barcelo for 1 night. This Barcelo is the best hidden secret in SD. I have stayed at the Hilton which I always rated as number 1 except for bringing in chicas but the Borcelo is right up there with being an up to date newly renovated hotel. The whole hotel smells new. I had the Premium room for $102 inc. Tax and use of the 9th floor free Wireless and free local calls. Read previous posts on the 9th floor. Everything you want for free. I could have had the regular room on floors 2-7 but it was $20 more to get the premium. I probably won't go back to the Marriott which is $149, but I use 15K points per night. When you go to the Barcelo website and sign up for a Rewards card they give you a 10% discount that brings the price down to this price. If you can't book online, call there 800 number they will give you the discount with the coupon number over the phone. You can cancel right up to arrival time. Also, the security does not vother you. I was hanging around the first night and talking to him. He is easy to get friendly with, the kid I met. I could have brought anybody up. I had a chica come over in the morning at 10:30am and just got on the elevator.

They have one crazy rule when checking out, you have to wait while they check the mini bar for use. That takes 5-8 minutes. I never use them. Have it checked before when get to your room to make sure it is full. Note: The deck on the 9th floor is totally torn up so you can't use it or the hot tub. That is what I saw from the 9th floor lounge. I couldn't go out because it was raining all day. Book 1 night online if it is in your price range. $82 all in is a good price. Also, they have a restaurant near the front desk that has a buffet or a regular menu. I am not a buffet person, but I had it and it was unreal. They have a chef always cooking on a grill you can see fresh chicken, pork, and many fishes and the salad bar is great and the other selection of hot vegetables is superb. Also soups and a dessert bar. If you like fresh bread you are in heaven. Loaves of differant breads that you cut from the loaf. Ah! A++ I ordered a diet coke and the total bill was about $18. 00USD. Not bad for the selection. Enjoy!

Leaving aside considerations of flying at inconvenient times in the middle of the night, what is the downside?Uncomfortable seating on it's airplanes, by far the worst customer service, rude flight attendants and because I always bring both a checked bag and a carry on the price difference is minimal and in some cases their price is higher. I no longer travel for business, all my travel is for pleasure and I don't need to start my trip off with an uncomfortable, inconvenient flight just to save a few pesos. I have flown AA more than any other airline with the exception of maybe Avianca and I have had very few bad experiences with them. I have read that seating is very tight on Spirit.Yes, they charge for both. $30. For carry on and $33. For checked bag if you check in online, if you check in at the airport it is $35. And $38. Keep in mind that this is per leg of your flight so in my case if I fly out of BOS double that and you have $252. In bag fees roundtrip! Yes, there is a charge for requesting ANY seat, I don't recall the charge though. The only way to avoid a seat fee is to let them pick your seat.

Frannie I can't believe that you find the seats and legroom better on Spirit vs. AA but to each his own.

MHL, I guess if I was flying out of FLL and the flight was an hour and a half and their price was the lowest I would consider putting up with their bullshit because you are correct in that a flight that short it really shouldn't matter what airline one flew on but I don't and also I was referring to my general preferences in airlines and to not just flying to the DR and truthfully most of my flying is to my namesake Manizales, Colombia these days, I haven't been to the DR in almost six months I enjoy Colombia so much more. Flying Spirit from BOS or JFK to Bogota is out of the question for me, besides they aren't the least expensive on these routes anyway.Iguess I'm lucky like in this instance because CTG, MDE, CLO or BOG is all 3ish hrs for me bro. FROM MIA. So as long as the price is right I can manage. What really irks me though is that when I meet my amigos in DR for some fun they always pay less than me and the live in NYC and I live in MIA.

Yes, but it could be sold out because the crap seats at the back near the toilets are sold at a discount by Priceline. Anyway, it is not sold out 7 days a week all the year round. And are you saying that AA does not sell seats through Priceline on any route? I know they discontinued making flights available through Expedia, but the whole point about Priceline is that the discounted seats are NOT advertised by the airlines.Good point Frannie you may be correct I don't know. I didn't say that AA didn't sell through Priceline, I said I doubted that AA would discount a very popular route such as MIA-POP.

Does Spirit charge extra for a carry-on bag and for all checked luggage? Does Spirit charge extra if you want an aisle seat?

I have read that seating is very tight on Spirit. If you don't select a seat, they will assign one to you at no charge, and if you are a single male and speak English, you have a good chance of getting an exit row seat. In exchange you have to be prepared to operate the escape hatch if the plane ditches in the ocean. So far I have not had to do this extra duty as the Spirit planes have comfortably cleared any water that was crossed. The seats are made of leather or something similar. They are not very wide, but then AA isn't either. Both are similar to traveling in a carro publico in the DR, because the row is just not wide enough for the number of shoulders involved. You could ask to be seated next to a child, but, on second thoughts, maybe not.

Yes, they charge for both.

It is about as "no frills" as you can get. At least AA throws you a bone every now and then. Last but not least, if for some reason you miss your flight or it gets cancelled, other options are few and far between, unless you want to pay a one-way fare back to the states. Since they have so few flights, odds of going standby are non-existent.

Uncomfortable seating on it's airplanes, by far the worst customer service, rude flight attendants and because I always bring both a checked bag and a carry on the price difference is minimal and in some cases their price is higher. I no longer travel for business, all my travel is for pleasure and I don't need to start my trip off with an uncomfortable, inconvenient flight just to save a few pesos. I have flown AA more than any other airline with the exception of maybe Avianca and I have had very few bad experiences with them.Talking about uncomfortable seating. Now Avianca has uncomfortable seating. They use European style hard ass Recaros and the head rest sticks out way too far and gives me chicken neck. I always have to take it off and put it under my seat. And as far a shoulders go it is way better sitting in the middle between two women than sitting on the end next to a man.

Depends how much is in your account, but their ATM in Sosua allows 10, 000 peso withdrawals. If this is less than the daily maximum from your home bank, you can make more than one withdrawal, but you will pay another 112 pesos ATM fee. Thanks for the info.

My mother took Spirit to Vegas and they charge for overhead storage for your carry-on. If you put it under the seat it's free.I don't know when she flew, but their policy now is that you pay $30 for a carry-on bag if it is above a certain size, but you are also allowed an additional small item that is small enough to go under the seat for free, for example a woman's handbag, or a small canvas tool bag that I use to carry passports, money, personal electronics, phones, Kindle, camera, etc. So for $30 you can take both. I have not heard of charging for overhead space per se and if I wanted I could also place my smaller bag overhead. Of course things are always changing.

With Avianca I'm usually on the A320 from Miami which is the one I find uncomfortable. When I'm on the B767 from Lima to Bogota or the MDs within Colombia it is just fine though because they have a different type of seat.

FYI, I've come across several banks that do not charge the 112 peso surcharge to take out money. Banco La Nacional, Banco Cibao there are several others, they seem like them might be like credit unions. I was able to take out 20k from each with no surcharge. Banco Cibao paid out in 500 peso notes.

Headed down in May and can save about $300US by getting an apartment without A / C. Will staying in Sosua, for a month and a half, be doable without a / see?

So that would be all of May and half of June.

I have been in Brazil, during November and December, which would correspond with May and June in the DR, and survived with no A / C. In fact, I have not used an A / C in Brazil in over 5 years, so I am acclimated to warm spots.

OldKool,

I have a hotel in Sosua for $800 with a /C wifi, etc.

But I was thinking of saving a few hundred, so I can take a few more trips to Santo Domingo, etc, in case I get tired of Sosua.

The apartment is in TradeWinds Condos and is real nice. Small, but it has a terrace.

It rents for $440 / month, but they state there is no a / C.

I have seen some apartments in The Palms that state 500-600, no a / C can be cut on at a fee. A $350 fee would make the apartment about as expensive as getting a hotel room.

I am not complaining, just trying to figure out how to save a bit more so I can travel around if need be. Can't complain, I mean where else can you get all of this for $800 / month tops!

I am about to head to Sosua in a few weeks and have a serious question.

IN many Latin American nations the condoms are so thick they prevent any real feeling. (Brazil being the worse. Their condoms feel like wearing a garbage bag).

How are the condoms in the DR?

I have about 23 Crowns (the best, IMO) and about 6 Avanti Bares for a month and half trip.

Since I will not be getting bareback, of course, should I go ahead and buy some condoms? Or, can I just wait, use mine, and if need be buy some others in the DR?

I am use to bareback as I have a steady in Mexico, so when I monger I have to use the thinnest condoms possible.

Thanks,

I ran out of condoms at BB last Dec. And had to purchase some at Yenny's. The ones made in India are ok but expensive. The local DR condoms are cheap but are the pits. By the way, I normally buy from www.condomdepot.com. They always have specials, just sign up on their email list. 15% off and free shipping. Just choose free shipping at checkout. Me and a brunch of guys are heading to sosua at the end of may. I started my recon and read 80+ posts and am both excited and confused. Why? Too many decisions. My initial plan was to fly into pop head to Barba negra 2 days earlier and get a jump on things (yeah I said jump) , knock out some 3somes, relax and head back to sosua. Problem: I realized that bb doesn't have a night life and I might be bored to tears and that the in house company is basically all I get. Do I just go for the exepience or just save the cab money, go straight to sosua. Mind you I would be getting there on a Tuesday and I don't known Spanish and would be solo for 2 days. Any advice would be appreciated.

ThanksMy 2 cents!

1. There are two schools here; what do you identify yourself with? One says, try out BB for a few days and then Sosua. The other says, given that you have no Spanish, why take chance. Stick to the familiar.

3. Personally, I travel alone and did the DR first time in July last year. Never spoke Spanish before I landed there though did some training with books and decided to take a chance with Sosua direct but also had the helping hand of a member to soften the landing.

No matter what, I think you will enjoy the experience anyway but let others chip in.

thanksif you don't mind paying for cab fare there is plenty of nightlife not too far from bb's. there are also several bars and and such within walking distance in costambar. many of the working girls and a few of the employees frequent a karaoke bar in costambar on their nights off, the name escapes me. during the day you can go down to the beach and sit under a palm tree and drink beer and chill out, have lunch go for a swim. if you want to leave bb's at night just hook up with one of the girls, they all would love to get out of there for a few hours and go drinking, dancing and sing karaoke. it has been reported many times that the surrounding area of bb's is dead and this is simply not true, there are bars and restaurants rep001tered throughout costambar that are within walking distance or by moto. the girls know where all the places are. is it wall to wall clubs and bars? no, but there is stuff to do that is for sure. i wouldn't recommend going to bb's for more than 5 or 6 days but there is no reason to be bored.

ThanksEither plan would be fine. Blackbeard's is a mostly quiet place to relax and walk along the beach, but Sosua has lots of restaurants, bars, a couple of casinos, discos, etc. You don't really need Spanish in either place to get food, drink, and sex. The main disadvantage of not having Spanish is that you are limited in the conversations you have with chicas, which probably doesn't matter to you. Perhaps you try both places and then report back to the board as to what advice you would give to someone else faced with the same conundrum.

ThanksIf you want to relax and get an introduction to DR, go to Blackbeard Resort the first two days. When you meet up with your friends in Sosua, you can party all night with them in Sosua. Blackbeard's is close to the city of Puerto Plata, which has bars and at least one p4p venue (cristals). Not too far from Blackbeard Resort is Ocean World (which has a marina, a marine park, casino and there used to be a nice bar on the top floor of the building where the casino is, called the lighthouse bar). You can easily venture out of Blackbeard Resort at night, the DR is relatively safe (crime occurs, but violent crime against tourists usually not). You can even learn some Spanish at blackbeard's, that could help you in Sosua. ISG member Charles Pooter has posted info about local bars in Puerto Plata.

As Manizales has stated, you can get a blackbeard's chica to show you around or you could try to negotiate with a taxi driver (I have read the Costambar taxis charge a high fee, info on how to minimize using costambar taxis has been posted before).

A lot of people ask about Internet access in the DR. For casual use you can use Internet cafes for about 1 peso per minute, or you can use hotel wi-fi, which may be very unreliable and also depend on how many users are trying to use it at the same time. If you need or want a better Internet connection you may want to get your own internet service in the DR.

I have experimented with various services and plans and come to the conclusion that your best bet is to buy the Claro service with a USB dongle. Here's why.

To get started you have to buy a package of data plus the dongle. The cheapest is for 15 days and you have to buy the dongle for $495 pesos plus tax. The whole package including 1.5 GB of data, dongle, and taxes costs about 1500 pesos. Now your dongle is active for three months if you don't use it, but you can recharge it for one day for just 65 pesos, which can be done from overseas, if you take a prepaid card or two with you for that purpose. In future when you want to use your dongle you can buy 100 pesos Claro ComuniCards at any pharmacy or Claro dealer and use these to recharge your dongle for 65 pesos per day (including taxes) for 200 megabytes.

At this rate 2 cards will get you through 3 days for 200 pesos, or it will cost you 455 pesos per week (that's US$11. 50) or 2000 pesos for a month, in which time you will get a total allowance of 6 gigabytes of data.

Even if you live in the DR this compares quite favorably with postpaid data plans, but if you recharge daily you have the advantage that if you don't want to use the Internet every day, or you have access through wi-fi and don't need the service, or you take a few days vacation out of the country, then you don't have to pay anything more.

If you buy a card for 250 pesos or enter data for more than one 100 peso card on the Web site, then you have a credit to your account and you can activate the next day's service when you need it, or from overseas to keep your account active.

Having looked at all the providers and alternatives, this looks like the best plan on the market in the DR at the present time. The service and reception is pretty reliable, but not fast enough for video downloads. It works with streaming radio, but you may quickly use up your data allowance. It is fine for Internet browsing, Skype phone calls, Magic Jack calls, Internet browsing, e-mail, blogging, stock market trading, and you can download e-books in a few minutes.

I live in DR about 85% of my time, I work remotely on the internet and only leave when I have client facing business trips. I've been in the states for 4 days with a bad cold and I'm horny as hell. The girls here do not compare to the girls in DR. P4P in the US is so far from GFE and almost every P4P experience in DR is so close to GFE. Granted I've not been to Asia but even in all the other countries I've been to I get the most bang for my buck in DR. I've got a nice apartment, live in help, air, internet, telephone for under 500 a month. My regular girl stays with me and when I want to go to get some strange, I get a girl and run off to the cabanas for a couple of hours. It is so liberating. Here the hot sheet motels are dumps and are the same price or more.

If I could find a sustainable business plan in DR, I would never leave.

Just ranting, I have a bad cold and haven't had sex in 4 days. I'll be back in my little corner of paradise on Saturday.

in mexico and rio, i am accepted by the locals. i am not sure what will happen in the dr but i do have a few serious contacts, who live in sosua (you all mention some of these people in your posts, by the way) who might speed up the process of acceptance down there, so check for my reports. and, check my blog.

"Save 50% off select flights to the Caribbean, Book by April 29, 2012"

There are two promo codes that can be used, depending on your travel dates. I found a round-trip, non-stop fare of $228 (all taxes and fees included in this price) , JFK to SDQ in May. 2012. JFK to Puerto Plata I saw a fare of $330. There are also flights from Boston, Orlando and from JFK to Santiago.

All Jetblue seats are the same size, recaro leather, more legroom in the first four rows and the emergency exit rows, for an additional $25 each way. You can choose a seat in the second row, usually the two adjacent seat are empty, so you can lay across three seats for the flight. Smooth flights to DR, when I have taken Jetblue. If you pay the extra $25 to sit in the first four rows (extra legroom seats) , there is separate line to get to the metal detectors and the TSA checkpoint, a shorter line at JFK).

hi guys, i am coming to dr august 15-29 to see if the electricity and internet infrastructure exists for me to live there and do business on a daily basis.

my business is interent-based and i'll also need a reliable and cost-efficient way to phone the the us 5-6 times daily. i know skype may be a possibility but i prefer to be able to do it from my cell (again, not relying on skype). i will be bringing down my iphone, which is already jailbroke. or, if need be, i will buy a phone in dr.

any input either about electricity / internet speed and reliability as well as the phone issue to usa would be appreciated. i am thinking i will want to live in santiago. but may be open to other areas.

any help is much appreciated.

P4P in the US is so far from GFE and almost every P4P experience in DR is so close to GFE. Granted I've not been to Asia but even in all the other countries I've been to I get the most bang for my buck in DR.Even having an actual GF in the US does not always translate to GFE. Check this out:

I just want to say thanks. Your good information just saved me some big bucks. I just made the deadline in time, maybe I need to read the Gen Info forum more than the other DR story telling forum.

Again, Thank You
