You gotta wonder what the fuck a so-called "human rights activist" is doing looking at Craigslist in the first place. Little bastard probably took the tour and did 5 or 10 girls before he called it in.
RockWhat he might have been thinking:
1. Looking for a fine young lad (most probable)
2. Trying to save the Chicas from those awful Gringo's
3. Trying to save those Gringo's from those awful Chicas
4. Pissed about his lackanookie disorder.
What he accomplished:
1. Taking food out of the mouths of those Chicas' children.
2. Disrupting hard working people's vacation plans.
3. Got a hand slap for a cheesey 2 bit hustler ($2,500 would get anyone laid every night by a different Chica for a month in the DR).
4. Got his Sav-A-Ho scout badge.
Players live their lives, haters only manage to meddle.

best bet is rocky's (rockysbar.com) in sosua, hands down.
Gents, I'm hoping you can help me with my upcoming monger-trip planning! I've gotta go to Panama City, Panama for work for 2 weeks and will be taking a week of vacation time afterwards before returning to S. Florida. Now, I figure that over the 2 weeks I'm there, I'll more than adequately sample whatever Panama City has to offer. That leaves me with 4 days to hobby somewhere before I need to be home. DR is on my short list of places along with Cartagena/Barranquilla and Aruba or Curacao. I'm really leaning toward DR as I've been wanting to return since my first trip a year ago and due to the apparent renewed security concerns on the coast in Colombia. I don't speak much Spanish, but I am doing the Rosetta Stone thing now. I want my $ to stretch as much as possible. I love the nice, round Dominican asses, don't mind dark or light skin, love big tits (but don't expect too much in DR). I also value good looks as well as performance. I'the prefer (obviously) not to have to pay 4 "it", if there is an area where the non-pros really don't require much effort, however, I don't mind doing what WE do best and paying for it. I've found alot of great info on Blackbeard's and it seems to enjoy about a 75-80% approval rating, which is good, but, I'm curious about other Adult Resorts in DR that you guys might recommend. I've heard of Platinum Castle, Viking's Resort, and the Exotic Retreat. Most of which are in Puerto Plata, which puts that town on my DR short list. However, I've also heard good things about hobbying in Sosua and Santiago. What's the short and skinny on these locales? Any other recommendations? Here's more criteria to help guide responses.
Thanks guys:
1. Avg price/name of decent hotel/resort (looking for less than $100/nt)
- Puerto Plata
- Sosua
- Santiago
- Santo Domingo
- Other
2. Avg price of a 7-10 girl found:
- Puerto Plata

-- at the hotel/resort
- Sosua

3. Density of providers (i.e. if I'm walking down the main street where girls are, how many (#) working girls will be obvious in a 15 minute period on a given day/night)
- Puerto Plata

4. Safety/security/crime situation

Tall order I know, but everyone always amazes me in their willingness to help out a fellow mongerer. I promise to post my reports upon return. I have limited time to research as my S.O. is always lurking! Thanks fellas.

I recieved an email asking me about this place www.taboovillas.com . On the pictures i recognised one girl that i had seen from the Cabarete CASINO . It'S the one with a scar on ther left breast .
Any info ???
I do recognize one of the other girls on there. Unless I'm mistaken she is from one of the clubs in PP. I also think she has a twin sister. I'm looking for a pic that I may have of her for comparison...lol. There was another all inclusive adult resort in PP that had photos posted where I recognized a girl from one of the clubs as well. I guess they are "on call" and come by when requested from the site.
My buddies and I are planning to go to DR in dec for the first time. The only problem we have is trying to decide where exactly do we want to go. I heard a lot of good things about BB's, Sosua and Punta Cana, well Higuey to be exact.
What would you recommend for a newbie in his early 20's looking for a memorable time?
Looking for some current info on Cabarete, in particular "chica friendly" hotels or apartments, as well as any info on the current state of "the scene" in Cabarete. I am currently considering the condo's at Magnifico's. If anyone can advise it would be greatly appreciated. Did Sosua last year and had a great time, a little afternoon delight everyday at "La Passions" ...great girls. Met some nice ex-pats hanging out at little burger joint mid strip, run by a nice Danish man named Tom, great conversation and cold beers. Also hit Clasicos everynight and found some good talent. All in all Great trip, excellent value, amazing beach.
Hey,
I am trying to learn Spanish because I am planning to travel to the Latin American countries soon, going to D.R. in December with a friend who has family there and to Cuba sometime later in 2008. Also my family is planning to go to Guatemala in April. I just came back from Puerto Rico and realized that my Spanish is horrible. I did have fun in P.R. but only if I knew Spanish, I know for a fact that I would of had an excellent time.
Well first let me tell yaw that my mother is Black and my father is Guatemalan. I m always being asked if I am Puerto Rican or Dominican. Being around my father side of the family I can understand Spanish very well for the most part, that even Tios and Tias have to watch what they say in Spanish around me. But the problem is I can’t speak it at all, when I try too I mess up the words and everything else.
So basically what I am asking is that could anybody recommend any ideas. I'm planning to take Spanish classes at the local university but not sure if it will help since I did take Spanish in college and in high school. Also I’m planning on buying the Rosetta Stone software, with all that I m doing to you think that I will be ready by December for my D.R. trip.
Do yaw think that the Rosetta Stone really works, heard that people can hold conversation in Spanish with in 3 months
Thanks in advance for the help

What are they changing the dollar at now on pedro clisante or the dude at the beach,, lets say $100 at a time or more. Would it be better to just take money out if the ATM you think these days? AND CAN you send a text through the internet VIA ORANGE webpage or whatever other cellphone company they have down there like other countries! Thanks and Kind Regards!

Do yaw think that the Rosetta Stone really works, heard that people can hold conversation in Spanish with in 3 months.I taught myself spanish using a combination of Rosetta Stone and Pimsleur "tapes". The Rosetta Stone is better for getting the basics right and pronunciation, since you can practice saying the words and phrases and the software will tell you when you get it right. The Pimsleur is better for immediate conversaton (how to find a bathroom, etc.). I downloaded both using bit torrent (just google "rosetta stone spanish torrent" and then look up bit torrent in wikipedia.
I can now hold a somewhat intimate conversation with chicas from colombia and d.r., even though I still have a lot to learn. Just focus on saying the basic nouns and verbs properly and don't worry about all the tenses until later! it has made a big difference in my dealings with the pros.

p.s. for mongering, see the quick spanish lesson in the Reports of Distinction under Lesser Antilles. St maarten.

JetBlue flights from Boston
JetBlue Airways is announcing a non-stop service to the DR's second city, Santiago de los Caballeros, this winter. Flights will depart Logan International Airport. The once-daily holiday shuttle will operate between 12 December 2007 and 15 January 15 2008. The airline will then assess whether bookings merit it to add a year round BOS-STI service.
JetBlue will operate the new flights - Boston's only non-stop service to Santiago - flying the Airbus A320 with capacity for 150 passengers. One-way fares start as low as US$109 (plus taxes and charges) each way between Logan and Santiago's Cibao International Airport. "We're thrilled to be adding this new service to Santiago just in time for the holidays", said Marty St. George, JetBlue's vice president of network planning. "Our Boston customers keep asking for more affordable services to the Caribbean, and we're pleased to bring it to them."
The new daily service will depart BOS Terminal C at 11:10 pm arriving at 3:55am +1. It will depart STI at 4:50 am, arriving at BOS's Terminal E at 7:50am.
If you have never been to the DR, but would like to meet some Dominicans and get an idea of what it might be like to have a Dominican novia, then you might like to see this video I took recently of a family preparing dinner in the countryside (campo) of the DR. The cerveza had been flowing, courtesty of the gringo novio, of course.
Warning: This is not for the squeamish.

La lagina --a type of mountain chicken (hope I spelled it right.)
Esta muerta la lagina... esta muerta. =The chicken is dead, it is dead.

Yes, gallina is a hen, and gallo is a cock (but not in the ISG sense),
but this mountain chicken is called a lagina, which has the letters reversed. (Sounds like vagina, doesn't it?)
You hear her say the word several times in the video and it is not just her getting it wrong, because I was talking about this to my dentista, saying we had eaten this type of chicken, and she said, "oh, you mean lagina, I don't like them much."

For instance you had a $1000, Would you change it for whatever 31 or 32 pesos? At one of the guys or at the beach? or USE your CITIBANK debit card and take out the money @ 33 pesos via an ATM considering your bank fees? Regards!

Regards!Check with Citibank but I think they don't charge too much for cash withdrawals, in that case ATM would be best. I always use my debit card, but my UK bank does not charge for cash withdrawals (of course take the usual steps to make sure the machine is not rigged, get and keep the receipts, check your account afterwards for extra/dodgy withdrawals).
For cash exchange always go to someone who has at least a shop or small kiosk or something (so in case of problem you can go back to him and he is half descent). Changing in the street is quite risky - you might get a bunch of fake notes ! Shop around I found EVERY day someone different has the best rate !?
Also if taking large amount (from ATM or exchange) don't hang around the street or clubs, go straight to hotel and put it in the safe.
Your best bet is finding those guys yelling CHANGE!!! all day on the main strip in Sosua. Last time I was there they hung out in front of PJ's which going towards the beach. They always give you the best rate, plus you are going to pay a premium from taking your money out of a ATM in DR. You pay the bank enough at home dont give them the money abroad too.

Thanks UZIN, been the the DR many times since 2002, but Im pretty familiar with the safety and counterfeit note situation, Just wanted to know if anybody had the citibank debit and how much they charge in fees in comparason with getting a lesser rate by the street vendors. Cheers though!

Citibank will charge you anywhere from $3 to $5 calling it a "Foreign Fee", the rate currently is 33 to 1. Cambios will also give you 33 to 1 or people can point you to the best exchange houses. I was never charged more, even with withdrawls of RD10,000.
I’m hoping to get a lot of answers quickly hope you are all willing to help.
I just was able to convince my wife to let me go down alone south for a weeks R&R.
Dominican Republic seems like a good choice.
I don’t have enough time to do a proper search; she is close by and believes I’m looking for a cheap trip.
In a day or two I will be reserving for a week in an all inclusive hotel leaving next week.
Questions:
Can I easily find girls close to a resort?
Is it a problem like in Cuba to get a girl in a hotel room or they come and go as they please?
If impossible to get in the Hotel can I rent something cheap?
Are there better areas then others?
What is the average price for either a quickie or a night?
I see exchange rates are more or less 33 pesos for a US dollar
I have Canadian $$ do I have to exchange in US?
Do you spend US currency or pesos when you go out and about?
Thanks a lot; I appreciate anything you can tell me!
I hope to have something good to report in a few weeks!

Sounds like you want Balackbeards (BB) in Puerto Plata (Costamabar).
Check the Puerto Plata section and the BB website.

WHere are you going in the DR....Santo Domingo, Puerto Plata?
Whay are you staying at an all-inclusive if you are traveling alone?
The Pooh ,
If you are going by yourself in Dr. go to Puerto Plata . Dont book an all incl. because you will end up getting an other room for play !
In POP if you are only interested in sexual activities go to Sosua . There are hotels like Europa and other where you can bring all the girls you want during your stay . As long as they have VALID ID (CEDULA) .
If you want to be on a nice beach go to Cabarete .
Dont go to an all. incl.

I am not trying to promote anything in particular, but here:

you can find a list of all the hotels in Sosua together with their street addresses and phone numbers. Might be a useful resource for someone.

Hi,
I am going to DR in a few days, and I was wondering is the curtview still in effect. I mean it really sucked to see everything close so early. I will be going to santo domingo. So if the curtview is still in effect, is there any late night action at all. Or should I go to Blackbeards instead?
I know this is crazy but is Sosua and Puerto Plata also closed at night?

The curfew is still in effect.
I was in Sousa last week. 1 am closing. 2 am closing on Friday & Saturday.
Last week the closing times seemed flexible. Classicos closed at 2:30 instead of 2.
The casino in Sosua, Playa Chiquta, has a disco inside where the bar closes at 4am. Everyone goes there after the bars close in Sosua.
Cabarette, I believe, is the only town that closes at 2 am & 3 am on weekends.
I'm sure the curfew is still in effect in the capital and Santiago.
The casinos seem to have an exemption.

In Cabarete above the Ocean Blue casino there is a nightclub wich stays open till 5 am in the morning.
200 pesos covercharge to get in.
In Puerto Plata closing time during the week is midnight and friday and saturday night 2 am in the morning.

I apologize in advance, but I could not find the post that answers my question. I am arriving at POP Airport, and need to get to my resort in Costambar. Please advise me if you can.

All of the taxis are fixed rates. You shouldn'y pay more than $35-40 USD, tops

Patrk39 is right about the pricing. As you leave the airport terminal and go to the right there is a taxi stand with prices listed on a board to different locals in USD. Taxis that I have used like the USD vs. the DR peso.
The important thing with taxis and motochonchos (as with about everything else in the DR-including most chicas) is to negotiate before hand. The posted price I saw last time I was there was $40 USD if memory serves correct. Most hotels will arrange the taxi to meet you at the airport if you contact them about it also and give them flight details.
Also, if you need to exchange some money, after you go through the main gates to Costambar, have the taxi stop at Jenny's Market and wait as you go inside to get your pesos there. You can't miss Jenny's as it is less than a minute from the main gate on the right. The taxi never charged me for waiting while I do the cambio thing. Don't exchange at the airport if you can help it as they rock you there.
Gentlemen,
I arranged a flight to Santiago next month connecting through New York. My problem is that it connects through different airports. My ticket is through American Airlines and I could not pass up the price-$308.00 total from PIT.
I arrive in LGA and depart JFK with a total window of just under 3 1/2 hours. Escort King gave me a link a while back for a bus service but the link no longer works.
My question(s) is, is there a bus service that I can trust to not screw up my "vacation" and make my connections or am I being too cheap and take taxi for this service as my best option. Like all frugal mongers I want to save my hard earned dinero for my exploits, but I don't want to be stupid about this either.
Any advice here and links to the service here would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your advice here.
There is a bus that goes to all three airports but you never know how traffic is. You can take a cab that will run you about $30 bucks or take the bus I belive it's called Empire and they charge arond $12. You can also tell the cab you want to go to the Jamaica Station and catch the Airtrain that is a straight shot to JFK.
Be safe!
Caribe tours is the bus service. They have 2 stations in Sasntiago. Try to get to teh main one. TAxi there should cost 500 pesos. The bus is less than 200 pesos to Sosua. takes about 1 and 1/2 hours. or TAxi to Sosua for 80 bucks.

I live in nyc and I can tell you that counting on ontime arrivals is risky. What I would do is call up a car service and have them meet you in the baggage claim area when you arrive. There is one service called carmel car service 212-777-7777 or 1800 -777-7777.
I assume the cost would be around $40. You can take a cab but sometimes the line for the cabs into manhattan take longer than taking a shared shuttle ride.
I know you got a good deal on the ticket but sometimes it just isnt worth it.
......I know you got a good deal on the ticket but sometimes it just isnt worth it.
I think I may have screwed up here. I am exploring the carmel car service option first, followed by the taxi option.
It is too late to change things now, so I will probably sweat it out until I am finally on the plane to the DR. I got blinded by the ticket price and opened up a can of worms for myself.
Thanks to those who weighed in on my post. I have always gotten good advice from my ISG brothers. Any additional thoughts would also be appreciated.

Does anyone have any real estate contacts for the North Coast? I'm trying to put together a trip for some college buds that are interested in investing. I would prefer a native English speaker (ex-pat) that really knows the area and the laws or a Dominican English speaker with a lot of experience dealing with Americans or other English speakers and also knows the laws. Of course, if there is a FEMALE real estate agent, that I could possibly bone as well, well, that would be icing on the cake! Please PM me with any details. Thanks!

I'm planning a trip to DR the end of NOV.
Can anyone point out where Crystal's is on Google Earth?
Also looking for BB on Google Earth.
I found the Mustang Ranch.
Thank you
I thought the Mustang Ranch was shut down. Is it up and running now?

Thank youCrystal's IS the Mustang Ranch bro! I just made a reservation last week for the Friday night before BB's bikini contest. I figured it'd be good to have a place in town/near town to go to that night since I'll be on the hunt in Sosua!

Correction Rodeo.....Crystal's owns the Mustang Ranch. The original club, Crystals is in Puerta Plata. From what I understand, some of the girls from the club are available at Mustang Ranch
Makes sense Patrk39! It's called Cristal's Mustang Ranch, but I was told that there's no girls hanging around the hotel. The hotel takes you by taxi to "the club" (probably Cristal's as you mentioned) to choose the girl to take back to your room. Cost of girl and taxi is included in room cost. 3 work days left!

Instead of wasting your money at this resort, 6 nights 4500 bucks, i would really suggest you to go to Rio de Janeiro and have the time of your life banging some of the hottest girls on earth.

Can't say I recall seeing any women in that area that looked like those girls on that oxygen site either. Would have been nice though.

The funny part is there are always plenty of guys still willing to pay outrageous prices. Maybe it's because they like having their hand held by people and they feel safer. Or they just don't like the sport of finding the girls on their own. That's half the fun.

Just bring your candian dollars down to the D.R. and exchanges them wherever you are going to be ( don`t exchange money at the airport cause the rates usually suck).

Many people will tell you that you can have more for less but those kind of people are the ones that love buffets, quantity over quality---- Yuck!!!!
I have worked very hard and I don't waste money but I appreciate quality and I take it any time over quantity. I don't like things for the masses I want my stuff to be the best and I expect the service to also match.
I liked the fact that it was all there for you, the girls were very fun. All had great attitudes the looks were between 7-9. There were no super models but there were NO ugly hags and all the girls had great bodies-( I am picky as hell)

I am a 53 years old seasoned independent budget traveler . Have visited already Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, the Philippines (so many times!) Cuba (too many times!) , Colombia, Brazil. I will be for 3 weeks in DR starting January 19 th 2008. When I say budget, I mean I usually look for accommodation in the range of 10-30 US $. For any of the above country, I do not make any reservation in advance but for the 2 first days. I do not have plan and do not like to have and I like to move from one place to another in respect to my current feelings. As the offer is always much larger than the demand, it works quite well. So do you think this kind of strategy is possible in DR at this time of the year? Another concern, do the budget hotels in DR are implicitly girl friendly or must I ask the desk before?

Concerning budget hotels, guesthouses... member nibu raphael has just recently made a post with different links. You can find his post in his thread nibu raphael in the Dominican Republic.
January is part of the high season in the D.R. so i guess it could be a bit tricky to find a place in your price range, especially if you are staying in popular tourist areas like sosua, puerto plata, cabarete....
Most budget hotels have their own webpage so before you make a reservation you can send them an email in advance to ask them about their guest policy.
Transportation is no problem in the D.R. There is a very good bus company called caribe tours which connects all major cities all over the country.
Check out their webpage www.caribetours.com.do for their rates, departue times....
I agree with you that quality over quantity. I am specifically more attracted to natural blonds. Does O2 have any? Do you happen to have pictures of the girls you met?
I was going to make a reservation, now that they increased rates and reduced the number of girls, I am hoping I can see some face shots of the girls before I go.

I have been to cuba from SDQ. What do you want to know???????

I went to Havana from Santo Domingo with cubana the national cuban carrier.
Before you can enter cuba you have to buy a tourist card in advance. You can not buy this card in havana at the airport. You can get this card at the cuban embassy in Santo Domingo or at travel agencies or maybe at the airport. The tourist card costs 25 bucks and is valid for 28 days if i recall right.
When you are leaving cuba you have to pay an exit tax or airport tax which will be another 25 bucks or 25 cuc.
When you go throught migration you have to show the immigration officier where you are going to stay. If you do not have a reservation of a hotel or casa particular it can happen that the cuban authorities are going to book you in a state runned hotel which are usually expensive (100-150 bucks).
In Cuba hotels are not girl friendly and it is impossible to take a girl back to a hotel room.
If you want to bring a girl back to your romm you have to book a casa particular. Just google casas particulares in havana and you get several links via which you will be able to book a casa particular.
Some of the casa particulares may not be girl friendly, so before you make a reservation ask them about their guest policy.
Keep in mind in cuba there are no strip clubs or *****houses.
Keep in mind that the police hassles the girls so don`t expect any girls to approach you.
In Havana/Cuba spanish is important as almost nobody speaks english besides hotel employees.
In Havana stay away from the center as there you will mostly find hardcore pros.
In the center you will find alot of people trying to sell you cigars, rum... don`t buy anyhing, cause all this stuff is fake.
Good areas for hunting girls are usually or at least for me the suburbs of havana cause there is usually not a heavy police presence.
Good areas for a casa particular are, habana viaje, vedado, cerro, la lisa, miramr....
In Havana most nightclubs/d****s are in the center or in Vedado. There is a special area called la rampa where you are going to find several discos and this is a good place to pick up girls. La rampa is very close to the hotel nacional which most taxi drivers will know.
In Cuba there are 3 different kinds of taxis. Taxis publicas which are (only) for cubans and cost 25 cuban pesos one ride. There are also illegal taxis which are more expensive and driven by people who do not have a taxi license or who make more money through this kind of job. And at last there a tourist taxis. There is a company in particular called pana taxi.
Please keep in mind that havana can also be a dangerous place especially at night so don´t flash, with money, no camera, watch.....
Well this was a vey shallow overview of havana. If you have any more questions send me a private mail.
Good info Berthold! Thanks!
What was the cost of the flight mate?
I just went thru almost the whole forum and saw enough recent comments about chica involvement with drugs in the DR.
Now, I remember in past trips to Sosua having seen a couple of really worn out chicks that reminded me of crack ho's but I just assummed that they were just drunken wastoids offering $1 BJs.
Now I am reading about young ones in BC and Sosua partaking in some of the "harder" stuff (not green)...is it getting worse or have I been blind all this time? Or this is more of a phenomenom in an area like Charamico or BC and not in Sosua itself?
I just do not want somebody johnesing and tripping in my room...
Good info Berthold! Thanks!
What was the cost of the flight mate?
The cost of the flight was 450 cuc (pesos convertible) in euros round about 400 in dollars probably round about 500 depending on the exchange rate.

The Puerto Plata and Sosua area adjacent to Puerto Plata airport (POP) are best for what you are looking for. Plenty of 8's but no 9's or 7's.
Planes out of Manchester labeled www.ThomsonFly.com are frequently parked at POP and have midweek flights full of people who do not appear to be wealthy. In mid January they have flights for 338 pounds inclusive of taxes. This would be high season in the DR, it may be cheaper at other times of year.

Thanks, EH. I appreciate that. Happy New Year to you and everyone on the board. Any interesting travel plans?
Sorry to ask non mongering questions but it does relate to my mongering trip.
Ive been to the DR a few times but recently moved my operation to sosua which Im not thrilled about. Im used to caberete which promotes a more active lifestyle.
1. I would really like to rent a bicycle in sosua. Is this possible and from who?
I know a tour company in caberete called iguana tours and they offer rentals for $25...too pricey in my book.
I feel trapped when I am in sosua and would like to roam around the non touristy areas. I enjoyed doing this in jamaica but the women are not as pretty.
2. I can easily read weather reports but what is going on this minute in the DR ? How often does it rain these days ? Its always an issue with me.
Im looking into traveling at the end of this month but Im still shopping for countries..hard to do with the falling dollar.
Thank you for your help.
I was in Sosua 2nd week of last January. It seemed to rain almost every day or at least every other day late in the evening for an hour or so but it seemed to always stop just around 10:00pm. I remember because I always walked from the Europa to the bars and the rain would just be ending. I think $25 dollars is too expensive. You can rent a dualsport motorcycle for that price. But that's not a bad idea renting a bicycle.
Eltoro Gringo,
I'm interested too but from the pictures of the hotel I see an expensive and extensive renovation project. The rooms are small, twin beds? Pink walls? No A/C? Only 12 rooms? With twelve investors if we were all there at the same time we would have to shut the place down. I don't want to be negative, I'm interested in seeing if it could be done.
Just a few questions for Bdhabtz or Rio Joe, or anyone else who's been there.
Where is it? I know the airport is POP but more specific if you could. Would they allow a potential future customer to visit during the day, sort of an inspection tour to see if I'd want to stay there on a future trip? The last time I was down there I visited the Mustang Ranch and they gave me the grand tour, answered all my questions, and the manager gave me her card. They were cool, although I was less than impressed with the place as a whole and would not choose to stay there.
I'm probably going down in a few weeks for 3 or 4 days of R and R and usually prefer finding my own action over places like Black Beards. I understand this place is a cut above BB so sorry if the comparison offends anyone. Black Beards has its fans too, and I can say I did have fun when I stayed, but once was enough for me there.

What country would your recommend? Basically only going for the action.
Been researching Cuba, DR and Colombia so far.

With limited experience, time, budget and language skills, wherever you go, you should go to a place where you can a controlled environment with assistance in making connections.
If you go to DR (my suggestion) definitely Blackbeards.
In Colombia, do some research on Medellin Mansion.
In both places, they will assist you and you will be less likely to have
a bad experience.
Good luck in your search.

But good food and good people. Columbia, Cuba, and D. R. Are good options but have fun and spend money, you are on vacation treat yourself right, you deserve that. If action is what you want, and not the experience a very limited budget might regulate you to street duty.
Good hunting

When you are only looking "for the action" forget about Cuba. Cuba is a police state and the cops give the girls a really hard time. You won`t be able to walk with your girl in the streets, go out to dance....
In Cuba you can not bring girls back to your hotel, you have to get a Casa Particular. Some casa owners only allow you to bring back 1 girl for your entire stay... so basically what it comes down to is that in Cuba you have to overcome to many hurdles.
If you are looking for fast uncomplicated sex the D.R. is the place to be.
Check out the Puerto Plata/Sosua thread for additional information.

This is the best source:

If you cannot find a cheap flight on that website when you need it, consider flying via Brussels:

Quality of chicas depends upon price and perhaps your looks, Spanish, dancing ability, "game", etc, not on which part of the island. You sound like a newbie in which case Sosúa or perhaps Puerto Plata is by far the best option.
This is a very factual report of my trip from UK to Sosua. I speak no spanish and I look like I can come from any part of the world (yes even chinese/japanese).
Flew in from UK Heathrow -> NYC -> Ft Luatradale-> Santo Domingo -> (bus) Sosua; yes LONG flight but due to certain circumstances (incl time between planning and actual trip = 24 hrs), I had no choice.
I flew Spirit airlines from NYC-> Ft Lauteradale -> Santo Domingo; RIP off but again no choice -> they charge for check-in luggage (I paid online for this and cost me $UsD5/bag). They charge for food; This would have been no issue if they were a low-cost airline - but I paid something like $USD250/way. Jetblue also flies from NYC.
Upon arrival in Santo Domingo there is NO choice but to get a taxi to Santo Domingo ($USD30) - I believe you can try for $USD25-but they have a printed sheet which states "from SDQ to Caribe bus terminal is RD1000)" - I was in a rush so did not bargain for another $5 discount.
The taxi ride took just under 30 mins - I was trying to make the 3pm bus. Missed the 3pm bus cause they don't accept USD - only local currency (RD280). Fortunately, there is a money changer (cambio) right there - but there was a small line. Good exchange rates (33.8 I think).
BTW - TRAVELLER's CHEQUES ARE A HUGE PROBLEM HERE!! Bring cash or other funding sources. My hotel were kind enough to accept Traveller's cheques (its a NEW THING in dominican republic) - at no charge and I got my change back in local currency (at the correct exchange rate).
Bus trip was the usual 4.5 hrs; quite cold as its been reported before. Movies were all hollywood ones but in Spanish.
At Sosua depot (still a fair distant from the hotels/beaches) - caught a moto for RD50. Drop off at my hotel - Hotel Residencial/Club Apart where I had pre-booked. As I said earlier - I booked VERY VERY last minute. The hotel was USD74 (supreme with fan with pool view -> needed this as I NEEDED wifi in my room and only these rooms have that - signal was very weak in my room tho). Safe deposit in room costs RD50/day and wi-fi access is RD250 (I think; for your whole stay). The hotel is only two or so doors away from Hotel Europa (away from the beach).
The hotel I love - the room is HUGE! it has oven, cooking facilities, all utensils, pots/pans, HUGE double door fridge; its one bedroom; hotel guests are mostly older people. The hotel is guest friendly and you need your guest to leave their p/port or id (at night time?; you need to have ID with you also to re-enter the hotel after-hours).
It rained a lot!
I got a massage at Kika, reasonable price at RD500 - but not my type - I like it REALLY REALLY HARD and ROUGH; it was too gentle for me.
Classico vs Latinos clubs -> I definitely prefer the former - although you have to pay RD100 to get in each time in Classico (Latinos is free entry) -> in return you get a free drink voucher. TONS of women at Classico (saturday night); hardly any at Latinos; It starts filling up after 11pm - great music to dance too all night in both clubs.
At 2am it all closes down, then I headed to the Casino -> moto ride was RD40 I think; the casino is free entry; however the club in there I think costs RD250 (can't remember) - again tons of women in there as well as trannies.
All up - quite good. My only disappointment was that there are tourist prices and local prices (covertly) on the food, etc.; I would have loved to try the local cuisine (instead of a burger at Rocky's) - but I don't feel comfortable paying $USD10 for food that the locals are paying maybe $USD3. Don't give me a lecture here - I know how it works - I just don't like it thats all!
If someone knows some great restaurant's and prices in Sosua and/or Santo Domingo then maybe they can post here? I am not talking about places like Baileys/Rocky's. For example, at the beach in Sosua there are some great huts/restaurants - and when I told them their prices were too high and aimed at tourists (in a funny/polite way) they were prepared to discount it by 25%.
Ladies prices? dunno - they usually take me home for free - and then I give them some money (e.g. $USD10/20). I always go back to their place - don't feel comfortable bringing them to mine.
Hope this helps.

That stinks. I eat Domincan food all the time and I have never been charged gringo prices for Dominican food and was there as recently as 2 weeks ago. Try Susannah's Place, half a block from hotel Europa. It is down a little concrete driveway. Eat in or take out. About 80-120 pesos for a plate ( I think). Chicken, fish, plantains, rice, mashed potato, salad are the main items on the menu. Try the creamed plantain casserole.
[Please note that in Spanish "la papa" = the potato, "el Papa" = The Pope. Ordering pureed Pope may cause offense.]
Hey Everyone,
I'm planning my first trip to DR. I'm pretty set on sosua but need some opinions. I did a search and couldn't not find a specific answer for this.
When I look at map it seems all the places are pretty close, Boca chica puerto plata and Sosua. Any opinions on Best place for a real experience rather then something like the beetle Bar in CR hit and run fun. We want to monger but also enjoy a chance with local girls. I sense sosua is run over with putas since there been relocated from other areas cracking down.
Any comparison would be greatly appreciated. I have been to Costa Rica and Brazil.
Thanks

ThanksBoca Chica is on the south/Caribbean coast and Puerto Plata and Sosua are on the north/Atlantic coast. The latter two cities are very close together, but BC is on the other side of the country.

Sosua is better than Boca Chica. I have been to both multiple times. Girls do come from all over the DR to meet foreigners, it is true, and the jobs available in bars etc. do not pay enough to live without gettting "freca" with the customers.
If you speak Spanish you can certainly meet local girls and form friendships. Many girls are interested in a relationship over the long term, but not in selling themselves for sex. In most cases they would prefer a boyfriend (novio) to selling themselves for sex, as prostitution is frowned upon, whereas having a (hopefully well-off) gringo boyfriend is a boon to the whole family.
What you will not find is a lot of "nice" girls who will have recreational sex with tourists just for the fun of it. In that respect Dominicanas are quite prudish.
Why give it away when you can get something in return?
Basically the choice is a) sex for money, b) relationship.
b) is more expensive, but also more rewarding in some respects, because you will soon have sex without condoms and sex whenever you feel like it.
If this is your first visit, I think you should just relax and enjoy yourself, talk to everyone, and see where it goes. You can get laid, sucked, blown, etc. any time you like, so there is no pressure for anything.
If a girl decides to make you her novio and she is beautiful, you will probably be powerless to resist anyway.
Why not just cancel the trip before you get sucked in? It will be safer that way.
So...

Frannie,
I love this advice.
Gents,
From reading post I know to fly into Puerto Plata airport, which is approximately about 16k from Sosua.
I have looked at apartments $400 t0 $500 a week in PP about 10 minute walk from the beach, secured seem nice.
My questions are: I like to travel in April and May is this low season in the DR? I don"t like the Frat style party housing some apartments have for gringos. Anybody have suggestions on low key, clean and secure apartments.
I take long walks and Brazil, Colombia and Thailand have never ran into any problems, keeping alert and staying out of troublesome looking areas.
Does PP and Sousa have nice long stretches paralleling the beach good for walking? All honest feedback and tips will be apprecaited.
I'm planning my first trip and want to find a closer place to spend a month than Thailand. Those 16 hours flights are wearing my ass out.
Cheers,
Nowrath

Sosua is only half that distance from the airport.
Perla de Sosua apartments in Sosua. $50 per day for 2-bedroom. Walking distance 5 mins to beach and to chica discos. donhansi at rentavillas dot com.
Low season is a bit later in the year. The heat of the summer and the hurricane season are less popular.
You can walk along the back of the beach at Sosua. Beach is about 1/2 mile long. You can also walk around streets of Sosua, but it does tend to get hot.
PP has nice long 2-3 mile walk along the Malecon from Long Beach to PP.
To me Sosua is better, because it has sidewalk cafes and restaurants, bars, internet cafes, supermarket, pharmacy, convenience stores, massage, barber, banks, ATMs, Emergency Room, discos, beach, car rentals, all within easy walking distance, whereas PP is more spread out and has more noisy traffic and fumes, but each to his own.

Thanks for the feed back
So from what you say Sousa is laid out better for short walking events.
Where as PP I would have to take more taxis yes?
Ok but which is more laid back?
I would rather go to the action from my quiet apartment then be surrounded by it all the time.
And apartment wise Sousa or PP for the nicer place . I don't want to break the bank but I'm willing to pay for my comfort.

PP is more an industrial working port city, also the provincial capital. Sosua is more a resort town. Jersey City vs Atlantic City. London vs Brighton.
The apartments I recommend are in a quiet, peaceful cul-de-sac and there are other apartments in Sosua in quiet locations.
Yes, you can use taxis in PP, but you have to know where you are going. In Sosua, for example, to find a restaurant that looks nice, (or anything else you need) you can just stroll around. Not so in Puerto Plata where restaurants are in different places, and the traffic is horrible. Also PP is probably not good to walk around at night. Sosua is well policed for protection of tourists.
Contrary to what some people like to think, Sosua is not really crawling with hookers in the daytime though you can find someone if you look hard enough, and the night time action is confined to 2-3 blocks.

Will add to my selection when it is time to shop.
Appreciate it.

As most here know the price of the cheapest phones can run $22 and up where as the businesses make their money off the phone rate planes.
Does anybody have experience taking an un-used phone home and getting it to work in the US infrastructure? That is, what will the costs be for maybe unlocking the phone, do you have to buy a SIMM chip. etc.
Thanks!

E-hunter, I can answer that. I would have told you in person if you'd asked. It costs the cost to get the phone unlocked, which is typically on the order of $15 or so, but this varies by the type of phone, and whether you can do the programming yourself or need to have the shop do it.
Assuming the phone supports the U.S. GSM bands of 850/1900, you can then get a Pre-paid SIM card for either T-Mobile, or ATT/Cingular. The official price of a starter kit is $20-30, depending on promo prices, and the amount of time built in. But you can actually pick up T-mobile starter kits on ebay for as little as $6 with $30 of time built in. The problem with these is you can't change your number, and it will have a 714 area code, because that's where the guy who sells them is. I use this method for my home hobbying phone. I just get a new card with a new number every 6-8 weeks when the time expires. Costs me $6 each time, for $30 or 150 minutes, which is more than sufficient time for my hobby phone.
BTW, are you staying in New Garden or moving to Casa Cayena?

Hi,
I am wondering how far is it, and what would be the best way to get there, price included.
Can someone help me out if you can get this before you arrive at the airport in Puerto Plata?
Or, is the only way to get it is to pay the $20 for it at the PP airport?
I can't find any info on it and rather just get it out of way prior to heading out if possible. I'm heading there in a month and half.
Thanks for the help.

It's basically a $10 entry tax. You pay the $10 for a card before you clear DR immigration, and they take the card away from you 30 feet away, less than a minute later. It's simply a tax, that you cannot avoid - but the way that it is structured is literally comical: Wait on a line, pay $10 to be handed a card, and walk 30 feet to the next station, where they collect the card from you - it seems to be a bureaucratic make-work program.

you can get the tourist card prior to arriving in the DR. from the dominican embassy in the US.
the webpage of the dominican embassy in the US is www.domrep.org
they have a contact buttom and you can send them an email easily concerning your regard.
The webpage also says that the tourist card costs 11 bucks. click on consular section and then click on tariffs and you will find it in the middle of the page.

There is a site called Ezforex.com that allows people to buy foreign currency in advance of travel to many countries. Example, today you could buy 27,500 DOP for $ 1000.52 U.S. with an $ 11.00 delivery fee. Total cost $ 1011.52 delivered to your door. I was curious to know if anyone has used this service.
Might be a great time saver for those of us who do not want to continuously run around with ATM cards and search out cambios. One stop shopping might be a convienience for some. Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated.
I'll be coming thru Miami airport, so will have time to get it there if they do that. I did email Embassy and it came back as bad email, I'll probably try it again.
If not, I'll just get in the line and pay and give it to the guy then right afterwards at POP. Seems easy enough but I just didn't want to be waiting around like hour or something to take care of something that is so simple.
Thanks for the help.

Unless the raised the price recently, the tourist card costs $10, and it just takes a few minutes to get it, if there's someone in front of you, otherwise it won't take even a minute.
Why do you worry about that? It's not really a big deal.
When I was planning my trip there I was concerned about everything, once I got there, I found out that everything was easy.

Sure, if you want to pay 25% over the odds. Look, you can carry a few $100 bills with you to change when you get there, and carry an ATM card for backup. There is an ATM on the outside concourse at both SDQ and POP where you get the taxis, and if they aren't working, there are money changers hanging around. It is no problem at all. Cambios are everywhere.
Just don't pay absurdly extortionate prices for currency before you come, there is no point. If you are planning to return you might take a few hundred pesos home with you for next time, but really there is no need. I have been to DR well in excess of 30 times.

It's almost impossible for those girls to get a visa. There a two option:
1. It's easier to have a student visa. but you have to provide a bank statement showing that u have the money to pay for school. Around $20,000 will be enough.
Bringing a girl here is not a good idea. because she will be depending on you.
I think for a student visa these days they have to show that they have already been accepted by the school. And I think this is confirmed with the school. As Ben Hur said, 9.9 out of 10 pros in Latin America/Caribbean have not even finished secondary education, so there is no way for them to perpetrate that they will attend a university.
But like you said, why would you want to import dead weight that will be a burden on you? Better to get a real gf who has been to school and has a good job and speaks English.
Patrk,
Where do you get this? At the ticket counter for Continental???On all european airlines (Iberia,Martinair,KLM,BA,Lufthansa and a few others) they hand out the turist visa card in the plane 1-2 hours before landing in the DR. You can fill it out (questions are both in spanish and English) right there while still being in the air.
Upon arrival you show that card...pay your 10 bucks (when last year it still was 10 USD) get a stamp in your pasport and listo!
Last year while coming from NY JFK (on a stopover becoz Iberia had f*cked up my connection in Madrid) with AA they also hand out turist cards while still being in the air! So IMHO there is no need to buy that card on forehand. In case they run out of cards there are many cards availeble when you get into the customs arrival hall in SD airport. (don't know for POP)
I mean i have been in the DR 3 times now, and thats how i have been doing it. so far no probs getting in.

In this example if you instead simply took the US cash with you and exchanged it as needed you would have an extra 6385 DOP - which if you are a decent shopper translates into two full nights of wild sex with a top shelf chica plus a fifth of Brughal Anejo. As a extra bonus you don't risk getting stuck with more pesos than you need or taking another hit exchanging them back.
I prefer to take at least 1000 in cash with me overseas just in case there are problems with communications/credit cards. It has happened to me more than once that ATMs/credit cards were down for hours to days. Just keep it in a hidden location - not your wallet- and put it in the safe when you get to your room - along with credit cards, passport, etc.
Cambios and ATMs are everywhere in tourist areas and quite common elsewhere.

FYI, the going rate in the banks in Sosua for changing USD was 33.2 per dollar last week, and the guys in the street gave 33.5. Changing big amounts of money at a rate of 27 is just crazy. Oh, and "searching for cambios" is a non-issue - you, like every other gringo, will be swatting them off like mosquitos.

It's more like 0-5 minutes wait to get the Tourist Card - 5 minutes only if you are in the back of a full plane and one of the last to get off. Relax, get it when you arrive - and don't pay extra for it - It's $10 in country.

Thank you to the fellow sportsmen who gave input regarding the home bought money exchange program. It is good to know that the Greenback is still respected in the D.R. My usual destinations are Saint Martin and Montreal, however with the Looney flying at the same altitude as the Eagle, North of the border is not such a bargain anymore. The Euro of course is now so high as to be rediculous. For those of us using the currency of the realm, We can only hope that things change soon.
Meanwhile, happy hunting.

The DR Peso is one of the few currencies around that is actually falling against the dollar. You won't find too many other FX exchange rate graphs that look like this one against the dollar nowadays - Costa Rica and Argentina are just about the only other ones in mongering destinations:
http://finance.yahoo.com/currency/convert?amt=1&from=USD&to=DOP&submit=Convert
Not worried, just checking off another thing so know how it works. Not a problem at all.
Lots of good feedback and glad to know it's not a pain in the butt. Thanks all very much.
Cheers!

Hi guys,
I am planning my first erotic vacation. With tons of erotic vacation packages on the net, I find myself having trouble to decide what's the best option for me.
Charliesangels, vikings, exoticretreat.net seem to be way over-priced. There seem to be other comparatively lower priced options, but the girls don't seem to be too attractive...
Has anyone heard of Bendricks.com? The price seems to be lower and the customers can choose the girls before reaching the destination. However, I am not sure if this operation is entirely legal. Providing escort service in a foreign country which allows prostitution is one thing, but transporting people to such destination is another... On top of that, it seems to have an operationin Thailand, which prostitution is illegal. I would definitely not want to get myself in trouble in a foreign country.
I am mostly attracted to estern European/Russian girls. Is there a nearby destination without traveling to Europe?
thx

The only places you can find Eastern European girls in the DR are the overpriced places you mentioned.
(But why look for Russians in the DR? Like looking for pizza in a Chinese restaurant).
As they say, when in Rome, - sample the ROMAN women.
Seriously, unless you have something against brown-skinned honeys, try the Dominican girls!
If this is your first visit, seriously consider Blackbeards. Its way cheaper than the others and a great first-time choice.
Look at the Puerto Plata thread for a report and comparison by "Ehunter" of BB and one of the high-priced places.
Good Luck.
Yanqui69,
Thank you for your prompt reply. You are absolutely right. Why not sample the local girls. However, I am not sure if Blackbeard is right for me, from what I heard, it's not one of those all inclusive resorts, and since it's going to be my first time to DR, I really hope everything is handed to me without hassel such as negotiating prices, which I am not good at even in English.. lol

Amigo,
I think one of the few things on the site that you will find a complete consensus is that BB is the best place for a first-timer, precisely because evrythign IS so controlled.
In fact, the most common criticism is that it is for those that need to be
"spoon-fed" and like shooting fish in a barrel. Too easy.
The prices are more or less fixed and there is a good variety of girls that have been screened to eliminate problems like theft, scams, and disease. Admittedly white girls are few, but this is the DR, where they are a minority.
I think for the price it is just what you would be looking for, for a fraction of the price of a so-called all-incusive. Yes, you pay separately for your bar, meals, girls, - but that allows you a bit of freedom that the all-inclusive doesn't provide. Should you choose to sample the food - or a girl elsewhere, you are free to do so. Or, you don't even have to leave the hotel for your entire stay, unless you choose to, its all on-site.
For the first time, its your best choice.
Good luck.
(Anyone else out there care to confirm or refute my advice?)

(Anyone else out there care to confirm or refute my advice?)I will confirm you a 100%. This is very true. BB was my first time ever in the DR and I sure am glad I went that route. I calculated that it was way cheaper than all-inclusive and a hell of alot more relaxed and very enjoyable. BB is safe and makes for a relaxed atmosphere. The girls are great and I never had one girl try to rip me off. Like stated above the freedom of leaving BB and sampling food and girls outside is also a plus. Great choice!

Good Luck.I feel here to jump in to defend these "over-priced" places a little I have been a regular visitor to Vikings, and am back for my 10th trip in 3 weeks. Over the time I have been to Vikings I have met some stunning girls and had a fantastic time. OK it is expensive, and not in everyones ballpark, however, I feel it unfair to put people off them. If it is in your price range you would have a great time, the girls are some of the most stunning around (I personally amnot really attracted to the DR girls and really have a thing for East Europeans) and on the whole they treat you like a king.
I have had a couple of not so great girls there, but most have been fantastic, the villa is great, the staff go out of their way to make your time there fantastic, and the management very very good.
If I get time when back from next trip I will write a report on it.
Cheers
Paul
Does anybody know if any of the casinos in Puerto Plata area hold No Limit holdem Tourneys during the day or night
Hi,
I have been looking at flights to Puerto Plata from Europe and they are very expensive, its nearly 700 dollars cheaper to fly to Santo Domingo. Can anyone advise a few methods of transport from SD to PP and associated costs please?
Would you recommend I stay in SD for a few days as well?
Many thanks in advance,
A

Andy,
The cheapest way I would suggest, although I have never done it, is to take a taxi to the bus station and take Caribe Tours bus to PP. You can then catch a taxi to wherever you are going from there. Their website is http://www.caribetours.com.do and you can use babelfish to translate. I understand their busses are nice and they run on schedule.
You can also check out this site, http://www.takeoffweb.com. I did not see a direct flight from SDQ to POP, but you may be able to contact them and see what can be done.
If you have never driven before in the DR, I would not suggest it. The first time down will give you a lay of the land on how they drive (like idiots) and an introduction to "motoconcho's" (even bigger idiots).
I know I have seen some shuttle type services available, and if anyone knows more about this or clarify/correct what I have written, please jump in.

Andy,
I second Ponderosa.
The Caribe Bus is the best way.
Depending on the hour you arrive, take a cab and ask for Caribe Bus.
From SD to PP is about 3-4 hours, but only a few dollars.
Good luck, - if you have further questions, feel free to ask.

My second trip to Sosua and not off to a good start!
Landed at PUJ on the 6th Feb. spent first night in wooded shack on the beach.
Fantastic location but quality was a bit questionable.(See Photo) Well it is only one night and I am not over fussy if I am traveling on my own! I could access shack from beach so I thought no question about being GF. First mistake! Landlady sees me take girl back and said this is a family hotel and would not allow girl in room. Had to tell girl to disappear, so she was not happy!
In morning I got a moto to Bavaro bus station, where I got the Bavaro Express bus to SD at 10am.
BTW buses leave at 7am 10am 2pm and I think 4pm
(Just a note for anyone else is doing this trip. On my second time I did this route (Long story) I wanted to leave at 11:30am from Bavaro, but next bus was at 2pm. So I got local bus to Higuey (90 Peso and about 1 hour). I did not know what stop to get off at in Higuey, but at one stop I saw a bus with SD on the front. So I got off crossed the road and got on it. 15 mins and 180 peso later and I was on my way to SD. I arrived about 2.5 hours later).
Anyway back to my original trip, and as it has been stated on this forum before “it is fucking cold on this bus.” It takes about 4.5 hours to SD, where I got taxi to Carribe Tours (120Peso) and get the next bus to Sosua, where I arrived early evening. Last stop is in Charimingo, So you have to get a 200 Pesos taxi into Sosua. Bus takes about 4 hours 280 Pesos!
There is also another service to SD from Metro bus. These are brand new Volvo buses, very high standard and they leave and drop off from the centre of Sosua. End of Dr Rosen outside the Pharmacia next to the petrol station. This is by far the best service, in terms of quality and comfort, and as they drop you off in centre there is not need to get taxi! Metro bus 300 pesos to SD! again about 4 hours. (see photo)
I booked flight to PC because no flights to POP were available. I thought it would be good to travel by bus and see the country! I enjoyed the trip, but to be fair, it was not worth the loss of two nights in Sosua. I would not do it again!

Hi, is there a bus that goes from punta cana to sdq?
If YES, how much does it cost?
And do you have an idea of how many hours?
Now that being said i have used www.takeoffweb.com to fly, but is there another airline i can fly on also. Or is this the only local airline?

I see you answered part of my question. So thanks for that. And i see you got the moto to a place called bavaro. How long, and how much was that from the puj airport. I know in the end i will say f-it and just fly direct to sdq, but because it only cost me under 100 rt to fly to dr, i am trying to see does it make sense to pay regular prices and get there faster, or spend less and it take forever.

From PUJ airport I got a taxi to Bavaro area where my hotel was. The first time it cost $30. The second time i did it after missing my flight back home, I went to a driver and said "I will give you $20 to take me to Bavaro" he agreed.
Moto to bus station was 50 Peso. bus time to SD is about 4-5 hours, road is not good. cost is 300 peso!
Take off air is quicker, depending if you can catch the one flight a day!
Well it was only one flight to pop!
Hi,
I have done a few searches and browsed about 10 pages but could not get all the answers. Here is what I understand, please correct me if wrong:
Taxi from Santiago airport to Sosua (say Hotel Europa): $60 (9:30pm at night); does anyone know any cheaper taxi drivers (how much? )
Taxi from Santiago airport to Sosua metro/caribe bus terminal: RD500 bus from Santiago to Sosua: RD100-150
Motobike from Sosua caribe bus stop to Sosua hotels: RD50 (? )
Motobike from Sosua hotels to Casino late at night (at 2am): RD50?
Motobike from Sosua hotels to airport: RD200?
I know the following depends on quality, etc, etc but as an approx:
LT with chica: RD1500? (incl o'night)
ST with chica: RD1000?

AAndy,
i don't know from which country you want to fly into the DR at POP airport.....but last year I bought a SINGLE ticket with JETAIRFLY FROM BELGIUM FOR ABOUT 300 euros.
http://www.jetairfly.com/
There site is in 5 (! ) languages. Dutch, French, German, English and Spanish. Mostly they fly from BRUSSELS International airport (Zaventem) wich was always for me easier and faster to get to then Schiphol in the Netherlands (I am Dutch). The pain in the ass with Jetairfly is that you can only take 20 kilos in your suitcase. And you can't cancel or change anything UNLESS you PAY money! The planes it selves are good and reliable but pretty basic. So if you are OVER 1. 80 meter or are used to much luxuries you will NOT get lucky LOL.
You can always take a BUS from POP to SD.....it's usualy NOT more then 10 euros for a single trip....4-6 hours depending on the traffic and wheater conditions. Take good care of the receipt the busdriver gives you for your luggage.....!! Also a good thing to keep in mind is to travel low profile and watch your back as in DR bus terminals usualy a lot of pick pockets walk about lurking on "fresh"stupid gringos to prey on;-)
AFAIK this is pretty cheap....just keep in mind if you are flying from Europe the prices always will be more as for our American fellow mongers...as they are way closer to the action then we are;-) I heard of some US buddy he paid 500 USD (!!) for as ROUND trip to SD last year from NY with AA..!!!
Besides from NY they only spend about 2.5 hours in the plane.....
All in all IMHO the women look better and hotter in SD area....but prices are way more then up north at the POP coastal region;-)
suerte
Johan
Any idea how much it will cost from Sosua Central to Puerto Plata airport by taxi?
By moto?
Thanks

A taxi from Sosua center to the airport is $20 US, pretty much a fixed price. Bt motoconcho I was charged 300 pesos for round trip but not sure if that's a fair price or not. If you don't have more than 1 piece of luggage motoconcho works. Hope this helps.

Here is a story for you guys that plan on getting a " Novia" here and send her monthly money, take her out of the casa or bar, come several times a year to see her, ect.
Last night I went out with a chica, haven't seen her in a while and we went out, she called me, picked me up in her car, paid for dinner and the cabana (Motel yes we had sex), ect. I'm not a Casanova or anything thing like that but she thinks I'm kool and she wanted to hookup for a minute.
Now here is the skinny, all of this was paid for with the money she gets from her Gringo Sugar Daddy, he sends her US$2, 000 a month *What*.
He sent her money to buy a car, ect. They met in a casa and now she does not work there no more (who would).
Does she love him, no, all night she went on and on, how he sends her what she needs and she only sees him maybe 3 times a year. Her words, " that old man is a trip, has me in english clase and all so we can speak better on the phone. He bought me a pc, and I got internet, but I told him the pc web cam don't work, so I don't even have to do web sex with him, jajajaja"
She has a dominican boyfriend that she now takes care of, thank you gringo, and goes out as she pleases.
Guys don't do that, you will become a joke if you do.
If you meet a regular Dominican women, and like her, and want to do that, maybe that is ok, she is not a ***** and maybe she realy likes you and all. But a casa chica, man o man don't do it.

I have no idea why anyone would fall in love with a chica from a casa de citas. Once she realized that I was hip to the game and a good speaker of spanish she opened up to me a told me some of her past scams on various gringos. We both got a kick out the blatant stupidity that some of these guys display.

The law of compensation will take care of that. Maybe the gringo is paying for something he did wrong in the past, and she will pay for taking advantage of him. About the Dominican boyfriend, he seems like a "great catch", a "mantenido". By the way, sooner or later the gringo will wake up and the money will stop, then what she will do? What about him?
As for you, wouldn't it be better to stay away from those kind of people? (With this I assume that you are not like her).

Care to share some of the more interesting scams - just so that we are aware?Just the standard Western Union requests for medicine for a sick mama/hijo. The most egregious incident was here passing off her loser Dominicano ex-novio as her beloved primo to her idiot gringo "novio" to explain why some dude was living in the apartment that said gringo was paying for. Off course every penny the idiot gringo sent her went to the "primo". The fake cousin/ex-novio was a deported former NY'er who spoke English. She would have him translate her conversations with the idiot gringo when he called and she and the fake cousin/ex-novio were in bed together.
I told her she was "La reina de las mentirosas". She laughed loud, smiled, kissed me and then proceeded to start sucking me off for round #2. She was about as scandalous as chicas come, but I had a great time w/ her.

Don't want to stay in hotels and Blackbeards seems a little to much like a big Frat party.

Looks very nice perhaps at $1000.00 a week, that's doable. I'll be travleing with a friend and we were looking for 2 separate condo's although this villa may work.
Tell me the location close to markets , night clubs and such?
Thanks for the great hint.

Hello fellow travelers,
I am planning my trip to the Dr end of 2008. I will stay for a week and it will be my first trip there. I mongered all over the world from Bangkok to Moscow and from Cape Town to Manchester. I studied this board as I always do and found it very helpfull but I am still undecide where to go in the DR.
I am looking for a luxurious place to stay, I just like being pampered. Close to or on the beach with some low key daytime activities like a pool, jacuzzi, massage and preferably close to a town or some shops/ cafe's/ restaurants. I like daytime sex so it has to be within easy reach of all the mongering possible.
I thought about an all inclusive like BB or the O2 retreat and they sound great but I just don't want to be too isolated. Can any of you fellows who've actually been down there recommend a place? Better to go to Sosua or Puerto Plata? Maybe combine O2 with a few days at an all inclusive somewhere>
Just so you know I did read the FForum but I just can't get a clear picture of what's best for me. I hope you can help me.
I was in SD last year and 3 times and met a chica at the casino. I sat down next to this gorgeous petite chica and started to play BJ next to her. Eye caught eye and I managed to score her for 4 days. She was a non pro that was a 9+. The whole 4 days she never asked for a cent. I took her out and bought her meals every day and went shopping one day where she may have spent $90 which I paid for. When she left the day I left she never asked for anything. I saw her again on my next trip and sure enough never asked for a penny. I would give her 1000 pesos to gamble with and any money she won I let her keep. She did win about 4000 pesos which I was happy for her.
All of a sudden out of the clear blue I get a phone call from her M friend telling me she is sick and is in the hospital and needs money for medicine. I tell him I will let him know. She E-mails me a story that if I can help it would be appreciated. I tell her no money at this time. I have problems with my family. I ask what is your medical problem. He writes back in English that she has laryngites. (sorry for the spelling) I have to laugh because who gets hopitalized for this throat disease. So I can relate to the story already posted. I am sure she can use some money but I am not sending money in the mail to DR like she asked me to. They all have an angle.

Once again thanks for the info . Chris already contacted me with $75.00 discount. a buddy may go with me and I don't know if I want to stay in this villa with the 2 of us . It would be spendy by myself but I enjoy my isolation and not having to worry about another guy or his woman in the villa.
I always am looking at Villa Brigitte beach Rentals.
Not as nice but look ok
Thanks,

I usually walk to town, and it is true, the casino is just over 5min away on foot. The chicas like this place too.
Does anyone know of this complex of villas "BAHIA DE ARENA"
They have some outstanding villas located there with good weekly prices.

well i need it more to say i have a dr address with my picture on it (government issued photo id from dr). so i would need an actual dr license. any way to speed up the process? from what i've read it takes a while to get a cedula. was hoping someone on this forum knew someone that can help me out for some extra cash.
I just got back from Sosua today and was checking my online bank statement. It appears the ATM in Sosua was only giving me an exchange rate for approx 29.7. This is about 10% off the official rate. Do DR banks have some sort of service charge?
Thanks,

If a girl has a bad scedula (her address is scratched off).
What could this be ?
I meet a group of girls on the beach in Sosua . One of witch was working in a restaurant . They seemed like verry nice people . We spent the day together and one of the girls came to my room that night (at Europa). Her scedula was refused and she gave her school id.
When we went to my condo outside Pop the security didnt like her scedula but did not say why .
I would like to know what could be wrong and what could happen ?
Btw this girl never asked for any $$$ ...

i'd try searching the posts and asking the question in the legal forum on dr1. there is a new law for expedited residency that would get you a cedula if you qualified. maybe you can just apply for a drivers license without being a legal resident. there are people on that board who could tell you.

If the Europa desk accepted her school ID as proof of age and valid ID I'd think that's a reasonable standard. It sounds like the cedula just looked damaged or tampered with and they rejected it on that basis. I don't know what you mean by what could be wrong or what could happen.

what i meant was that the ordinary reason on this board for being concerned with id is to confirm that the chica is at least 18. that is most of the reason hotels like the europa check id. they also hold it in case of problems until the chica leaves as a sort of bond.
some chica's have fake id and what would be a reasonable standard for evaluating the legitimacy of an id? to me the desk at europa which handles a constant flow of those transactions, shares some liability for ****d chicas getting past, and has a lot of experience with the issue is a good standard. if it's ok with them it's ok with me because they know more about it than i do.
id can lack an address or have an old address and still be valid even in the developed world. addresses in the dr's barrios are not like the us or europe. lots of dominicans, maybe even a majority don't really have a mailing address. have a chica take you home to the barrio sometime. most houses are not on streets and don't have numbers. they have no mailboxes. even when there is a street it may not have a name. the postal system is very poor anyway. a school id establishes a better means of tracking her down. i find it hard to picture the police somehow being able to do something with an address that they couldn't do otherwise.
if for example you were somehow ripped off by a chica and you wanted the police to do something about it, your contacts and how much you were willing to pay them would have much more to do with the results than having an address on a cedula. generally it wouldn't be worth it and you'd just write it off anyway.
which brings me to another id issue i've wondered about. many chicas in the dr, especially those with some haitian ancestry but many who are full dominicanas, have no valid birth certificate so they can't get a cedula at any age. they actually have no legal age or identity. to further confuse things although some know their birthdates some don't even know exactly how old they are. they know plus or minus a couple years and could probably narrow it down to months but not much further.
when i first visited the dr, the son of the guy i was visiting cautioned me about ****d chicas. his own gf was a tall slender very dark skinned beauty who was from the west. she was very elegant looking, taller than he was, and i never questioned her age. he thought she was 19. one day her sister showed up to visit with a new baby. the sister was 16 and it turned out it was her older sister. neither of these chicas actually had a birth certificate at all and would never qualify for a real cedula. even though both were born in the dr they looked haitian and had no papers and that's that.
by now the gf is over 21 but she has no more legal proof of being 18 than she did then.
there was a big scandal a year or so ago about local bureaucrats selling birth certificates to people like this who needed them and there was a crackdown. i think good fake cedulas are quite expensive and buying the real thing in this way even more so.

I am planning my first Dr trip and looks like im staying in Sosua. I cant speak any spanish at all, you guys think I will have a tough time? Fordtech:
"No worries." I too had no Spanish (except for the tourist phrases you can get off a web page). At the resorts, hotels, bars, restaurants, you'll do fine in English. Even at the beach if you're bargaining for a good price on a T-shirt or coffee mug to take home.
For meeting new firends, while Spanish may be a help, you'll still have all kinds of opportunities with just English and a smile.
It might be worth while going over basic Spanish like numbers and useful phrases. A Google search will find you a few internet sites. You don't really need a year of night-time Spanish classes before you go. I really enjoyed my stay. (You might also want to check out a few of the links on the reports of distinction thread. There will be a link there to a report of mine which is a general introduction to the town.)

I agree learn your basic numbers and general pleasantries like 'gracias', 'por favor' etc., they will carry you a long way.

Sosua/Caberete is probably the most english friendly place in the DR and has a lot of english speaking expats. You can get along fine. However you will find that any spanish you bother to learn will help. Many Dominican's don't even speak "Sesame Street" english, eg. Numbers, colors, basic words. If you want two beers it helps to know to say "Dos cervesas por favor".
Because every little thing learn/know will help communication a bit, it's a real encouraging place to be if you want to learn some Spanish.

Please keep in mind that not all the phrases listed there are common to the Dominican dialect.
I have used my old verizon cell phones in the Dominican Republic. Recently I bought a $30 dollar Verizon prepaid cell phone, samsung camera phone, at Walmart. I brought it to a Claro cell phone shop in the Dominican Republic (in Carrefour, big store in Santo Domingo) and they programmed it for use in the Dominican Republic, gave me a new phone number and 300 pesos worth of airtime, for around 800 pesos. There is also a cell phone shop across the street from the casa marina in sosua, same side of the street as the baseball field. They programmed my old verizon phones for free. They are very nice.
Orange uses sim cards (gsm network) AT&T here. I have not yet tried to program a cell phone with a sim card in the DR. You can buy cheap prepaid cell phones at Walmart. Claro uses CDMA network, which is Verizon and I believe Sprint (no sim cards).
To add minutes to a CDMA phone, (i.e. Verizon) all you do is buy a Claro card at most shops, they range in price from 250 pesos and up. Scratch off an area on the back of the card to reveal a set off numbers. I believe you dial 1133 and press send, you will here a message and then enter the set of numbers from the back of the card. Very easy. You can text message and set up voicemail as well, also caller I.D.
When you have little time left on your minutes, you will here a message that you have so and so minutes or seconds left for this call. Whenever I go back to DR, i just buy a card and add minutes to my phone. I have the phone numbers saved in my phone. Very easy and cheap. I bought a new LG Aloha prepaid cell on Amazon, however they were unable to program that cell in DR.

I bought a Blackberry last year on Ebay for $18.00.
When I got to the D.R. I took it to the Orange store, a couple of blocks from Casa Marina in Sosua. They gave me a sim card and programmed it. Free incoming calls 10 cents a minute out going. They also loaded it with 300 pesos of air time and gave me a number. Your phone has to be GSM to run on the orange system.

I've been to Boca Chica twice, but my last trip was in 1998. I've been going to Costa Rica with an initial trip to Colombia this past April. Both times in Boca Chica I stayed at the Hotel Garant International. I had a terrific stay both times.
Where is the best place in the DR now for fun? I have heard that fun moves around.

Try the north coast of the D.R. Sosua or Puerto Plata. Check the Sosua and Puerto Plata thread for additional information or trip reports from fellow boardmembers

Having made multiple visits to both, I agree that the N. Coast (Sosua, PP) are much more active locales, but I have still found plently of gems (semi-pro and non-pro) in BC. If you are looking for clubs packed w/ chicas then hit the North, but if your looking for a low key trip where you could spend some quality time with some low mileage chicas, BC is still the place.

I was wondering if the bars in the DR operate like in Angeles City and Pattaya where there are mamasans and you pay a barfine if you find a girl you like, or do things work differently in the DR bars? I have never been to the DR but hope to go in 2009.

No mamasans but at many discos and bars there are waitresses or staff you have to pay a salida (exit) fee to the bar to take them off work. At discos or bars with lots of P4P chicas there is no salida for most of them. You can take-out from many massage places for a salida. If you don't need to take the chica with you during working hours you can usually get her number and have her come over later with no salida.
I am reading that DR has higher rates of HIV, herpes, Hepatitis. Is this place a slightly more dangerous place for BBBJ?

It sounds like a good place to stay for a noobie who doesn't know his way around.

The salida is a separate fee paid to the bar. Many of the places in Santo Domingo and Santiago operate like this, but with the expection of Crystals in Puerto Plata, most places on the North Coast (Sosua and Puerto Plata) have freelance chicas with no salidas.
BB is Blackbeards or Barba Negra en Espanol. BB is a good place to start for your 1st DR trip especially if you don't speak Spanish. You will pay more, but its a controlled environment with alot of pretty chicas.

The salida (= "exit fee") is basically a legal device. DR law, like the law of many countries, does not allow pimping or taking a cut of the earnings of prostitution. Hence in many clubs and bars girls are nominally employed as bartenders, srippers, waitresses, or dance-partners, while in reality they are prostitutes, and if they wish to leave their nominal job during working hours, then a compensation fee has to be paid to the employer for their absence.
The base rate pay for the job may be extremely low, maybe just a bed upstairs and one meal a day, so in reality the girls are entirely dependent on their ability to earn extra money by having sex with clients. From the bar owner's point of view the ideal girl is one who earns a salida several times a day.
The problem with the system is that what happens is that some girls get barfined all the time, and others almost never, which leads to jealousies, disharmony, and frequent turnover in these establishments.
Sometimes you can get around the salida by arranging to meet the girl after working hours or at another venue. For example, at Blackbeards at Costambar there is no salida, and it is by no means uncommon for girls who work at Blackbeards to show up later at night at the Cristal club at Long Beach, near Puerto Plata, if they have no date. If you go to Cristal, you will then have to pay a hefty salida to take them back to Blackbeard's for the night, which obviously is not a good business propostition from your point of view.
In Sosua the main bars such as the Merengue Club (underneath Classic disco) and its neighbor don't have salida fees. They rely more on female "customers" attracting plenty paying male customers who will buy the somewhat expensive drinks.
Seacrets, from what I have seen, is a pretty scummy place that does not get a lot of drinking business, so probably relies on trying to make some money from salidas.
Girls who work for salidas tend to have to be contracted to be at the bar every day, so can be classified more as pros. My preference is for freelancers, who work when they feel like it or when they need the money. While they may well also be pros in the sense that they are taking money for sex, at least they may also have a life away from the job, and if you are lucky, you may meet girls who are relatively new to the game and still sufficiently interested in sexual experience to be able to respond to you and give you a good time.
To me the real dividing line is between the girls who become sexually aroused when they have sex with you, and the one's who don't but just go through the motions anyway. There is no sure fire way of telling in advance which are which, though it is a good idea to spend a little time flirting before you make a purchase.

Question. Is there any place on the DR North Coast that imports Colombianas to work? Please avoid the obvious comment: "If you want Colombianas, go to Colombia." I just got back from there, I'm looking for a cheaper thrill in DR.
Thanks.

It might have been a poor example to use.
If things are slow elsewhere, and the girl chooses to hang out at Cristals in hopes of finding a date, she has to give Cristals their cut to permit her to work out of there, so no matter where she leaves for, there is a "salida" to take her out.
BTW, the only "employees" at BB are the hotel/bar/restaurant/office help and the maids/security. The arrangement with the girls is that they don't work for the hotel technically, since pimping is illegal. The stated deal is that they comply with all the BB requirements, etc. and are permitted to work there "independently", to keep the crooked cops and officials at bay.

I don't think so. Importing women for purposes of prostitution would appear to contravene numerous laws related to trafficking, pimping etc. Which begs the questions of how high-price sex resorts like Viking succeed in importing girls from Eastern Europe and I honestly have no answer to that other than to suspect that officials are paid off.
In any case, the costs associated with importing Columbianas would obviously put upward pressure on the pricing.
Apparently there is a brothel in Curacao that has what you want.
It might have been a poor example to use.

Except that the example given was a true one. Someone once posted here a picture of a girl he had taken from Cristal for a hefty fee (I think about 4-5K pesos including salida) . The girl in the photo was quite clearly a well-known long-serving Blackbeard's babe who could have been had at Blackbeard's for 1300 pesos or whatever the rate was. (As far as I know she is still at Blackbeards on a daily basis.)
To be honest, any place where you have to pay a salida, you will not be getting a great deal, but people tend to be very critical of newbies paying over the odds when in reality it is not that easy to resist.
For example, you are new to the game and you encounter a woman who seems to you divinely beautiful, more so that any woman you have ever had sex with. In real life you would pay ANYTHING to be able to have sex with such a young goddess (OK, you have had a few beers too) and here she is stroking your leg and feeling your rock hard tool. At moments like this $100 does not seem like a whole lot of money for the most important (as it seems) experience of you life, especially when you remember how much it costs to go to Disney.
As you become hardened to the mongering life, you are less impressed with the chicas and they become more of a commodity, so you will be more laid back and wait for the designer brand chicas to go on clearance before you make your move.

After reading the last few messages, I feel I now understand the "salida" situation quite well. I had pretty much decided that BlackBeards would be a good choice for a newbie, like me, who speaks no Spanish but then I came across a website for Mustang Ranch Resort. I was surprised to see that you can buy inclusive packages that include a "companion" for 4 hours a day. I wonder if the client has any say in which companion he ends up with and whether the client has a say in what 4 hour time period he will have the companion? It would be nice if it was from 10 pm to 2 am or something like that but perhaps the 4 hours is in the afternoon or morning?

My understanding is that they will drive you to Cristals for you to pick out a girl.
No mention of time.

Lucky Streak: Here is how it works:
If you do the all-inclusive package(180 per day) it covers: breakfast, lunch, dinner and free drinks from 10 am to midnight and a girl for 4 hrs.
Women: Depending on how many nights you stay at Mustang Ranch determines how many "cards" you are given. For example 3 days/2 nights you would get 2 cards. These cards allow you to pick the woman of your choice from Cristals and it covers 4 hrs. Anytime after 4hrs(i.e. toda la noche) you must pay 50 bucks U.S.
Do not lose the cards as they will not be replaced. You can choose ANY girl from Cristals, they do not chose you or you are not obligated to choose from a select few. Once you have chosen the girl, she will go upstairs to get dressed, during this time you take your card to the bar manager(I believe his name is Fernando) and you tell him the name of the girl you are taking. He signs her name to the card and you are off on your way. If the girl is new, then he will explain the procedure to her(i.e. she must stay 4hrs).
You can get a girl anytime you want. If you want a girl during the day then you pick a girl from the day club called Rio, if you go in the evening then you are driven to Cristals. Just let the front desk girl, whenever your ready and she will call a cab to come and take you. On Thursdays Cristals closes at midnight I believe, so keep that in mind if your planned stay at MRR includes a Thursday.
PS: Upgrade your membership so I could PM you with more info if needed.

Mandingo Al, I don't often comment on posts but i must say I'm impressed with this one. Chances are I'll never stay at MRR, but I appreciate your concise and detailed explanation of their system. No bashing, no bragging, just the facts, ma'am. IMHO, this forum could use much, much more of this kind of report. I guess sometimes the reports of distinction editor is asleep at the switch.
I can only add that it would seem to make sense to spend some time in the club to find a girl who is at least a bit compatible. If as you say they have no choice, then forcing a girl to go with you who clearly doesn't want to could lead to a pretty disappointing experience.

Also, forget about Western Union, what a rip-off. Go online and set up an account with www.xoom.com. Send yourself money from your home bank account from a cyber cafe in the DR. Pick it up at Carib Tours locations or Progresso banks. I just sent $400 to my chica and it cost me $15. A lot cheaper than Western Union. AND, never buy VISA Travelers checks, the first time I tried to use them was a nightmare. Very few banks will cash them.

I just read your message on how things work at MRR and it is all nice and clear to me now. It seems to be a pretty good deal for a newbie type person, like myself. I plan to upgrade my membership about 1 month before my trip (in 2009) so that I can accept a PM. At this point in time I am mired in a costly divorce battle with my soon-to-be ex-Filipina wife and that is eating up a lot of money and energy that could be better used elsewhere.

ATM Bank Cards work well. A couple of tips that may help. Make sure you call your Bank before you leave and give them your travel dates. At the same time ask them what you can withdraw each day. This can vary from Bank to Bank and country to country. The same tip applies to traveling out of the country with your credit card(s).....always call the Card Company. Both of these tips were expensive lessons in two different countries...ok I was a slow learner then.
One last potential problem. ATM machines can and have eaten (not returned) ATM cards before. This happened to two people I meet at BB's. Only one of the two guys had a back up plan if that happens.

Only one of the two guys had a back up plan if that happens.Just my two cents on this subject as I've been to the DR 9 times and have made mistakes as well. *Read Deadpans post as well as it is very worth reading. This is how I operate in Sosua. This post doesn't apply to BB's in Costambar as there are no banks within walking distance.
On one trip for some reason after calling my bank from home to inform them of my trip they still blocked me from making ATM transactions in Sosua. I had to take a motoconcho to Codetel, call the bank and have them lift my ban. Big pain in the ass! , but eventually worked out.
I do take travelers checks just as a backup but have never had to use them. My bank doesn't charge me for them and I can cash them back in the States free of charge.
Once in the DR I always operate off my ATM card although I know I will get tagged for a fee from Banco Populaire and BOA. To me it's worth the small surcharge from both banks *** If the ATM machine swallows your card don't even bother going into the bank and ask them to retrieve your card. They can't and will tell you to call your home bank and have them work it out. Again, Big pain in the ass!
I take $500 U. S cash with me from the States in $50 denominations and excange $100 into pesos at Miami airport. This helps me pay for the taxi from Puerto Plata airport to the hotel and gives me some breathing room if something goes wrong.
I also carry a credit card but only use it to pay for the hotel. I stay at Hotel Europa in Sosua and if you pay with cash you get a discount. Sorry I lost the discount but for me the cash I bring is only for backup.
Make a copy of your passport and keep it with you. I never carry a wallet, more then small cash or any watch or jewerly. I always stay where there is an in room safe and that's where I keep anything of value. Passport, emergency cash, credit card, ATM card, etc.
Because I like to party I keep all of my stuff in a safe place such as my in room safe box. When I need money I go back to my room, get my ATM card and take what I need only to pomptly return my ATM card back in my room safe.
Lose your cash, ID, Passport, credit card, ATM card because of carelesness will put you in a world of shit. Trust me I've seen it.
Just spread your risks. The last thing I trust is a debit card. Can be cancelled by your bank in a second no matter if you call ahead. Now, in many ATMs do not enter your PIN until the machine returns your card or it can be swallowed. Never attempt to withdraw cash at the remote branch when it is closed. AMEX TC are accepted at the hotels, travel agencies and most banks, just follow the rules when you buy them. With 2 bank references, 2 local references, passport and 500 USD you can open USD account at Scotia Bank. 5K minimum for a CD.Takes about an hour. Bank Popular asks for income verification, etc.
I have been checking flights to and from the DR and the US for Nov and Dec, and noticing that not only have the prices increased, but several carriers seem to have dropped out of some markets.
I realize that the rocketing price of fuel has caused most carriers to cut back on flights and increase pricing, but I feel as though it is hitting the US to DR market hard.
Correct me if I am wrong, but Continental has pulled out of POP and STI and Delta has done the same. American Airlines appears to be the only major carrier still hitting all these locals, but pricing has increased dramatically. Spirit Airlines still goes to SDQ and can offer some nice fares, but they do not service every market and Jet Blue no longer seems to be a discount carrier. I am a frequent flier in the Skyteam alliance and using my frequent flier miles for a trip to the DR seems to be a moot point. Someone please tell me I am wrong here.
I have been checking flights to and from the DR and the US for Nov and Dec, and noticing that not only have the prices increased, but several carriers seem to have dropped out of some markets.

Now the flight is $545.60, i got it at $425.60, i just missed $384.60 by a day, Bummer!, Still better that $545.60, Check jetblue should be more! American has to many connecting flights for me, and want more money for those flights.

Lauderdale, then the flights are cheaper. For instance, my October flight from MIA is costing me $285! I also wouldn't discount flying into Santo Domingo and driving to POP or Sosua...especially if you travel with a wingman. The 3-4 hour drive isn't that bad and its all highway and the roads are good with a nice view of the countryside...of course, if you're not the type that is comfortable in unfamiliar situations, it may not be for you. It also detracts from your mongering time on both ends of your trip. Of course, if you plan in an overnight in Santo Domingo on each end, you get a totally different mongering experience!

Ok, I've read these post about using the ATM in the DR and I have found this to be the best route to take. If you are going to the DR and there is a Bank of America in your city or town please, open an account with Bank of America and deposit the money you will use on your trip. Bank of America and Scotia Bank (a Canadian Bank that operates here in the DR) are partner banks and you can withdraw money from the Scotia Bank ATMs here with no fee. (None, 0) If you use any other ATM machine in the DR you will be charged a fee by that bank and a fee by your bank. These fees are usually about $5.00 on both ends.
Also, Scotia Bank gives you close to the daily exchange rate on your money. You probably only lose a peso here and there.
This has always worked for me and I hope this info helps you on your trip to the DR.

Now my question I don't hear too much about exchanging at the $$ at the exchange places granted I only have a 3 week stay and since my bank is not bank or america and I don't want to start a account it seems I could exchange $500. 00 once I hit town, and live off that for the stay and hit the ATM at the end of my stay if needed
Mongering is not high on my list and the $500. 00 is just a number I use it would also save me looking over my shoulder except for that one big exchange which I usually make with the taxi waiting before I hit my condo.
Now I also hear about the crappy exchange rate at the airport with this amount how much are really talking about me losing from the exchange booths in town?
Also I read the report about $50. 00 I usually bring new $100. 00 is there a problem with big bills
Thanks,

RodeoWe have tried that, but you have to look at, we are flying from NewYork 1, and 2 the cost of gas in DR right now is higher than the States.
Some of you might be familiar with the History of DR.
But DR was discovered by columbus. Columbus never set foot on the United States soil. Santa Domingo was the first European City there. throughout Columbus travels he sought Gold on the Island & could not find any.
Most Europeans slaughtered and used the Indians there as slaves. A lot of them died from disease. That was when they started bringing Africans on the little island. Columbus Frustrated that he could not find gold in DR. He called one city Puerto Plata which means Silver mountain.
Pretty soon all the Indians were completely wiped out by the 16th century. And the Majority of the population there were Africans.
Dominican Republic tried to burn and re write their history books about where they came from and don't consider themselves Afro Dominicans. As you will find today a lot of Dominicans like to refer to themselves as Indians.
Also racially by skin shade.
If you travel to DR during Columbus day you can view Columbus bones they have a ceremony every year.

I have no idea where you will be during your stay in the DR. I don't do Sosua that often because I don't really care for that city. However, in response to your question and concerns, if I were in your shoes I would not exchange my money at the airport because they give the worst rate in the country. I would not exchange my money in the airport in the states either because their bad rate is probably worst than the terrible rate that you will get when you hit the airport in the DR.
If I were in your shoes, I would arrive here and eat the ass fucking that the taxi driver is going to give you, to reach your destination, in US dollars. Probably going to hit you for $20 or $30 depending on where you are going. After that I would go somewhere and check the internet and see what the current exchange rate is. (I usually use yahoo financial because it is pretty right on.) After that go out and check a few places that exchange money and see how close you can get to the real daily rate. In Santiago I have found that most places give you that rate. I don't know about Sosua and Puerto Plata because I don't go there that much.
WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T TRY EXCHANGING MONEY WITH THE DUDES STANDING OUT ON THE STREETS WITH THE BIG WADS OF CASH. A lot of the time they will give you some counterfit and I know that will mess up your whole trip.
I hope I was able to help.

The best place to exchange money in RD is Western Union, in Santo Domingo the main office of WU is in Abraham Lincoln street.
The exchange rate of casa de cambio is in the main newspapers (Listin Diario, Hoy or Ultima Noticia). Normally on the front page or the first page of business section (dinero, negocios). Actually 35, 5 RD$/$ At Caribe Tour and Western Union they change also, look or ask at the rates there. I made good experiences at Banco Hipotecario Dominicano (BHD). Caribe Tours in Sosua doesn't exchange money! So you must exchange at the bank. At Playa Sosua there is a man who makes exchange, I don't remember his name but everybody knows him. At Costambar go to Jenny Supermarket and change with the boss. Good rates.
Some one actually mentioned Western Union. Whomever you are you have no clue. Western Union gives the worst exchange rate on the island. They also steal money. That is the reason that everyone the sends money through them has to pay extra to send the money in US dollars and exchange it elsewhere.
So, please. Do not take that advice. This person has no clue.

So, please. Do not take that advice. This person has no clue. Its my personal view, and I have 4 yrs doing this. If you wanna go with the banks go for it, but wu have better rates that them, if you wanna go with the "Casa de cambios" that is your riks then.
The "safe" way is WU. There your not going to get your wallet stolen by a "carterista".
PS: sorry for the broken eanglish LOL

Are you serious man, western union? They are pure thieves. I can't believe anybody still uses them. In the states it is only poor migrants and undocumented workers that use them to send money back home and they got robbed doing it.

I think that guy must work for Western Union and he is trying to keep the stealing happening.

Back when I was in the DR in June WU had the best rate and came highly recommended by the more experienced mongers whom I was with. At the time WU was giving 34 to 1 whereas everyone else was giving 33.
There are many places to change money in sosua. I walk around and ask at the little cambios (change booths) there are many. Sometimes I get a better deal from the guys standing on the corners, near what used to be Pluto's bar and the small grocery store. Usually earlier in the week the rates are better, I have seen the rates drop a few points on the weekends. Airport rates suck as do most hotel rates. Like most things in the Dominican Republic you can negotiate. I will say that so and so has a better rate, with the guys in the streets and at the small cambios and sometimes they match or better that rate. Depends on how much you are exchanging, usually when you exchange a large amount you can negotiate a better rate. I changed money twice with western union in Santo Domingo and they asked me for identification, I was carrying my passport, so it was no problem. Just something to consider if you use Western Union, they asked me for I. D. In Santo Domingo. In Sosua I am friendly with a large guy who stands on the corner, changing money. His rates are not always the best, never had a problem with him. In Sosua, in about a 15 minute walk you can visit about 10 different places that change money, I ask around and change money with whomever offers the best rate. Usually a few points difference. In Santo Domingo I tried to change money with some guy in the street on Independencia near Pastuer, but the guy was crazy, he gave me a good rate, I gave him 200 dollars he gave me like 6800 pesos, but he wouldn't leave the side of my car, he just kept yabbering about something, eventually I said forget it and drove away. I have changed money in the street in the zona colonial and in santiago, no problems.

A good source of information as to how the exchange rate is going at the various Cambios around DR is to check out this website.
http://www.oanda.com
Seems it is pretty steady at around 34.8 pesos to the US dollar right now.
To all of you mongerers in the DR at the moment, what is the weather like and what is weather forcast for the next few days. Here in the US NOAA states that the tropical depression is slow moving and causing flooding in PR and DR, so any field reports will be appreciated.
Also, how is this storm affecting the mongering games?

500m2 zoned land with permission to build in the "Swaying Palms" development in Punto Cana.
The offer is $45k with some interest free part payment, and guaranteed buy back stuff after a couple of years (assuming the developer is around to buy back of course....)
Does anyone have any comparables?
Anyone had any experience with the Swaying Palms resort?
I'm asking you guys 'cos some of you are pretty savvy at this sort of thing...
the road from santo domingo to santiago is good (two lanes each direction). you enter this road from autopista duarte which is in the northern part of the city. the traffic in santo domingo can be terrible at times. the air pollution on autopista duarte, when there is heavy traffic, is terrible. there is one toll at the beginning of this highway. there was very little traffic on this highway the times i drove to santiago. i drove as fast as i wanted. many cars drove past me at a higher rate of speed. when i drove during the day, i made good time. once on the highway, i got to santiago in a little over an hour. this is a link to a decent street map of santo domgingo, which also shows the names of the various neighborhoods. i right clicked it and saved it into my computer, then used zoom to be able to read the street names: http://www.bocachicabeach.net/images/maps/map_santo_domingo_merge_low.jpg
at some traffic lights in santo domingo there are illuminated visible timers that count down the seconds till when the light will change. at busier intersections there are various vendors selling cellular cards, cables and chargers for cellular phones, nuts, peeled oranges and there were some window washers. one vendor helped himself to a mango from the back of the pickup in the photo below. i was told by some locals that late at night, it is allowable to go through red lights, reasoning behind it, i was told, was to protect drivers from criminals. at the quieter intersections, i stopped at the red light and then checked for traffic and then proceeded through the red light. at the larger, busier intersections, i usually waited for the green light.
when i was staying in santo domingo, i drove to boca chica almost everyday. sometimes with a chica and sometimes alone. i sat at a lounge chair with an umbrella at the same location and the same waiter came and took my order. i usually got a large presidente which was put into a wooden holder. one chica ordered shrimp and they were good. one girl, i invited, came to the beach without a bikini. she went into the water with her t-shirt and shorts. i have seen this elsewhere in dom rep, where women go into the water with their clothes (no bathing suit). additionally, seems like most dominican women prefer the boxer style bottoms for their bikinis. i do not think i have ever seen a dominican woman with a tanga or an itsy bitsy bikini.
the lounge chairs with umbrellas are adjacent to one another at boca chica and it is very easy to start a conversation with people sitting nearby. i met an old italian guy at boca chica (his face is in the photo bellow) i believe he told me was 83, he lives in boca chica. he was a music teacher and a musician, he said his arthritis doesn't bother him since moving to dom. rep. i also met a 35 year dominican woman who was there with her 14 year old daughter. she spoke perfect english and was in the domincan republic on vacation from brooklyn, new york, she said she was known as the latin barbie.
sea urchins in sosua beach are plentiful amongst the rocks, i would be careful walking along the rockier parts of the beach. i snorkeled near the sosua bay hotel and victorian house, good assortment of fish, very little live coral. some barracuda.
piergiorgio hotel in sosua has a pleasant outdoor bar with seats that overlook the water. at night they have lamps that shine into the water and usually long, skinny, silver needle fish can be seen. i took a gf chica to this bar for drinks. i did not want to expose her to the meat market on the main strip in sosua. piergiorgio hotel is a nice hotel, i never stayed there, but you have to walk through the lobby and the grounds to get to the bar area. it is about a block from el neptuno condominiums and two blocks from the victorian house and sosua bay hotel.
i usually use button down, short sleeve, quicksilver brand shirts in the dom. rep. the ones i have are made from a synthetic material, they dry fast, don't wrinkle and have a straight hem, so that they don't have to be tucked into the pants. they have comfort fit and slim fit styles. i have rinsed them in the hotel sink to reuse on a different day.

Ok guys,
I am seriously considering DR now after seeing those photos of the BB girls (Black Beards of puerto Plata)
The women are just the way I like them:
1) Caramel skinned to light skinned (I am not into totally black but more of a beyonce colour and/or J. LO look)
2) Thick Bodies (Notice I said "Thick" not "Fat". There is skinny, Thick and then fat. Beyonce is Thick, Alicia Keys is now Thick, J. Lo is Thick, Paris Hilton is skinny and Queen Latifa is FAT)
3) Piercing and Tattoos
I guess if I stay in the Cibao area I will find the hottest women.
But I have a few questions:
1) Where can I find strip clubs/bars in POP and Santiago. I mean the kinds where the women are naughty and slutty. The kind where a girls might blow you underneath the table whilst no one is looking?
2) Where to find the easist non-pro girls who are naughty and wild in bed. You know the kinds like in the black beard photos. Real slutty. I also don't want to spend too much money so how much am I looking at to spend on non-pro activity?
3) I am not a cheap skate and willing to blow money but I prefer to keep prices down and the puta curve down so where can I get this for cheap?
How receiptive are the chicas of DR to taking it in the rear?

I guess if I stay in the Cibao area I will find the hottest women.El Cibao is in the interior part of the country around Santiago. More lighter skin girls in Santiago. I have never really mongered in Santiago. I saw a few cute thick women at the casino in the Hotel El Gran Almirante in Santiago. For "non-pro" chicas, with tattoos and thick bodies, try to meet some online, before you go. Hi5.com has a bunch of Dominican chicas and many of them post many photos. Choose the ones you like and send them a message. I don't know how the nightlife is in Santiago. I met one Santiago chica online, light skin, big booty, lots of tattoos and she seems like a freak. She has a profile in hi5.com with over 50 photos. PM me if you need more info.

And how do the women generally look down there?
Thanks man,
How is Puerto Plata for non-pros?
And how do the women generally look down there? In Puerto Plata generally the chicas are darker. Santiago has more light skin chicas. I have met a few non-pro chicas online who live in Puerto Plata. I have not really hung out at night in local places in Puerto Plata. Some of the working girls in Sosua live in Puerto Plata. There are all shapes, sizes and colors of chicas in Puerto Plata. However if your preference is lighter skin non-pros then Santiago or Santo Domingo has more.
Puerto Plata is a busy little city. Lots of cars, buses, motoconchos and trucks. If you were to arrive in Puerto Plata and just try to hook up with non-pros, it could be done, may not be super easy, but with enough effort anything is possible. I usually try to meet a few online that I can develop a rapport with, before I go. Puerto Plata would not be my number one destination to try and hook up with non-pros. There is a greater selection of chicas in Santiago and Santo Domingo.
And even if you hook up with non-pros, more than likely most will have some sob story, involving their bad economic condition, in which case they will be sending you the message that they want you to give them money.
From your post I imagine you want low cost, attractive, light skin, freaky chicas. I doubt you will find many like that walking the streets of Puerto Plata. You might have more luck finding that type of chica in Santiago or Santo Domingo.

When I first joined this forum and researched the DR, the ROD (Reports of Distinction) thread was a great source of info. For the most part it contained reports that contained good info that could have easily gotten lost in the daily muddle of reports. I have noticed for a while that the moderator of this and other forums in the ISG puts the little comment about putting a "newbie's" trip report in the ROD thread as a normal course of business.
Is this to encourage newbies to pay up for a subscription because they feel "special"? Is it to encourage new people to post in any forum? IMHO it is not to single out reports that are a must read in any forum.
I'm OK if I get flamed on this one, but what do you guys think?? Does this bother anyone else??
P
What is it about this post that makes it worthy of being put in Reports of Distinction????
P
Well I dont see it either. The only thing I know is it is subjective whether something is unique or not and there is only one person calling the shots... Maybe we have a new moderator?

Could anyone advise me of the costs for x-rays(face, chest, abdomen, arms+legs), MRI, blood analysis, possible kidney or internal injuries, inability to eat whole foods, etc.?Medical costs are much cheaper in the Dominican Republic. I have a friend whose sister went to Santiago to get a bunch of cosmetic surgery. The price was at least 1/3 of the cost as for the same procedures here in the states. My friend lost a cap on his tooth one night while in Classicos, he grabbed a motoconcho driver and went off in search of crazy glue at 12 at night. He didn't know the word for glue, so he was unsuccessful. The next day he visited a local dentist who had some ancient equipment, the dentist reinserted the cap, no problem. Cost was minimal. You can buy a small dental repair kit at most pharmacies here in the states, that has the dental glue. In sosua there are are several small medical clinics with signs that say they are open 24/7. Sounds as though you may have a friend who was in an accident, who may be asking you to help with the medical expenses. I don't know what the x-rays cost there, but I would imagine under 40 dollars per x-ray. M.R.I. here in the states can go for upwards of 600 dollars.
