1. Always use ATM's during daylight Banking Hours (9am - 4pm; M-F)
2. Only use ATM's that are "Attached" to a Bank Branch (NO "Free-standing" Machines)
3. Use recognized names like: Scotia Bank, Banco Popular, Banc Reservas
4. In tourist areas (Sosua, Boca Chica, Punta Cana), always make sure that you see an armed Watchee Man (and that he sees you too)
5. Withdraw the Maximum Transaction Amount (generally RD$10,000+) to avoid excessive transaction fees
6. Avoid using ATM's on Weekends and on DR Holidays, because of higher rates, less available cash, and the higher chance of machine tampering
7. Be very aware of your surroundings and keep transaction time to a minimum (1 minute)
8. If you have the time, just walk-in and conduct your transaction with a bank teller. With a teller, you can specify the peso denominations (much better than getting stuck with 5 RD$2,000 notes)

That is very good advice and would like to advise to stay away from $2,000RD notes, unless you are purchasing a vehicle or large ticket item. They are very difficult to change and many dominicans will state they don't have change.

They are almost not even legal tender notes, and basically can only be changed at casinos/larger clubs or inside the bank, just don't accept them!

Them 2,000 pesos bills are nothing but trouble. Worst part is after a few Brugals and Presidentes they start to look like a 200 pesos bill.
I'm flying in to Santo Domingo. Any recommendations on good ways to get to Sosua from there?
Also, are there any places to buy reliable and cheap cialis/apcalis?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks in advance.Catch cab from SDQ to Santo Domingo(35usd) metro or Caribe Tours.
Metro leaves at 7am,11am,and 120pm.
To Sosua is 300 pesoa (9usd) and takes 4 hours.

Thanks in advance.Named brand Cialis is about 300 pesos per pill. There is a pharmacy on the second floor of the airport in Santo Domingo. There are many pharmacies throughout the island, some open 24 hours per day, no prescription necessary. Just about every pharmacy sells cialis, no problem.
Generic cialis is, "la pela", cost 50-60 pesos per pill. I don't know what apcalis is. Caribe tours has an online schedule, they go to Sosua from Santo Domingo. Metro bus too, other members, can give you more details.

No word on your arrival time.
Time permitting, the best way is to get a taxi to the nearest Caribe Tours bus station and buy a ticket to Sosua.
Cheap, a quick view of DR from the window, and typically air-conditioned comfort. (Maybe meet a friend as well).
Any pharmacia sells La Pela, - generic Cialis.

Hm Hw,
Yanqui69 has already advised the best way for you to get to Sosua BUT be aware sometimes you have to change buses in Santiago. Check with the driver when you get to Santiago.
Dodger
As previously mentioned, take a cab to either Caribe Tours or Metro bus depot. I believe the current taxi rate is $40USD. Both are modern, comfortable, air conditioned buses. Metro is a little quicker because it makes fewer stops. Caribe Tours makes a rest stop in Santiago where you can stretch your legs and grab a quick bite to eat.
Caribe Tours stops on the outskirts of Sosua, Los Charamicos, and you will need to take a five minute taxi ride into town. Metro stops at the gas station on the main highway and you can probably walk to your hotel depending on where you are staying.

Pastillas=pills
un pastilla= 1 pill
dos pastillas= 2 pills
pastillas pronounced something like "pas tea yas".
Tienes Cialis? = Do you have Cialis?
Dame (darme) dos pastillas = give me 2 pills.
The cialis usually comes 4 to a box and they are encased in a plastic enclosure. If you only want one or two pills, the person in the pharmacy will use a scissor to cut the plastic, to give you the amount of pills you desire.
La Pela comes one pill in a soft plastic package. All the pills should be in a plastic enclosure.

Thanks in advance.Thank you everyone for the prompt and informative responses. My plane arrives too late to catch any of the buses so I'll probably check out the action in SD for a couple of days and then head to Sosua.
Jaosousa: Apcalis is a generic brand of Cialis.

IMHO, and this is my personal experience of 11 years visiting Santo Domingo, today we can get better value than over a decade ago. My conclusion is based on a analysis of many factors, including price charged by the chica, currency exchange (it was 15-17 per dollar in the 90's), inflation among others. If a girl provide me with a gfe, is pretty, charming, provides repeat session and overall is a good company I have no problem paying 2000 pesos to a chica which is only $55 dollars. What can she buy with $55? I live alone in Puerto Rico and that is my weekly grocery bill, and most items I buy are cheaper here in PR than in DR. And please do not compare the 2000 pesos to their monthly minimum salary of 6,000 weekly, that is a miserable salary and the girls do not work 40 weekly hours with clients. 2000 pesos for at least 3 non rush hours is ok to me, for a shorter session like for example 1 hour 1,000 pesos is ok. If the girl is happy with less then no problem. I never pay in advance except for the casas and always tell the chica an amount but conditioned by their performance. If she left early, is she do not provide something she promised, I say "hey! hey! tragate eso or it is a 200 pesos cut to your payment." I do not expect anybody to agree with me, it is only my opinion. I almost always have a graet time. Be a tigre, be a fair tigre.
And please do not compare the 2000 pesos to their monthly minimum salary of 6,000 weekly, that is a miserable salary and the girls do not work 40 weekly hours with clients.
Actually businesses valued greater than 4 million pesos the minimum wage is RD8,464/monthly, businesses valued less than 4 million pesos minimum wage is RD5,819.
I have said this before, and I will say it again, you pay what you are comfortable paying and shall pay what I feel is fair!
What you pay your "novia" will really not effect what I pay her next week.
I read this today on a site called Dominican Watchdog: "Tourist killed while drawing money from ATM machine in Santo Domingo" "Ten people have been questioned by the Dominican police on the case of the Bulgarian engineer Constantine Alexander, who was murdered in Bella Vista Mall last week. However, Bulgarian authorities have not been informed of the case yet.
According to witnesses, the victim had been attacked by two unknown men, while drawing money from an ATM machine in the commercial center."

For what's it worth, I read this today: "Dominican Republic, highest cost of living, lowest wages, poll"
Dominican Republic is the most expensive economy among the seven Central American countries and despite having the highest cost of living, has the lowest wages, revealed Alvaro Alan yesterday in the presentation of the results of a PriceWaterhouseCoopers survey." "The PriceWaterhouseCoopers survey in Dominican Republic took into account a practice of more than 15 years and polled more than 1,100 companies subscribed in Central America.http://www.dominicantoday.com/dr/poverty/2009/8/7/32838/Dominican-Republic-highest-cost-of-living-lowest-wages-poll

Me personally, no, but I would email Bill Lane at Harborview Condos.
He could help you out.
Well here's the story guys. I'm a 40 year old guy who's finishing up college for the 2nd time. I've been given an opportunity, by a company interested in hiring me when I leave college, to spend up to 10 weeks in a Spanish speaking country learning to speak the language. I'm moving into petroleum production, and they have a lot of interests in South America and would like to have me understanding some Spanish when I get there.
So here's the requirements. I need to present them with a proposal as to how much a 10 week stay would cost. Of course I have secondary motives for wanting to spend an extended period in an exotic land, and so I come to you.
I need to find out why you think The DR is the place to go to spend time with the chicas. Really what I'd like is more semi or non pro action, particularly since I'll be there a while. I'd prefer to stay in a city away from the gringo occupied areas. I am supposed to be learning Spanish remember, so if everyone speaks English, I'll not make much progress. I'd also like any input you might have on how much a small house or apartment might cost for the 10 weeks.
Really I'm interested in any insight you might think would be useful to someone in my position. Incidentally, I do speak a small amount of Spanish already. I'm a middle class, average looking, middle aged white guy, who doesn't mind leaving suburban America to live in less the US standard accommodations.
I hope Jackson doesn't mind, but I'm thinking of posting this in quite a few different forums to get responses from each, but feel free to offer advice on any other countries you might think appropriate as well.
Hopefully come June of next year I'll be running a blog on how things are going, and chasing as much tail as I was during my fist stint in college. In the meantime, I hope to hear from all of you as to where I should spend my 10 week mid life crisis.

There are a few reco's on DR1 for dentists in Puerto Plata, Sosua, & Santiago.
Allow a little extra time for a crown or major work, often times the labs are in another city!
Friends,
I do not know if I asked this question here before. But, I would like a little info if possible. I am considering retiring in the DR. But, I would like to know which cable or satellite company is the most reliable there. I have been getting conflicting responses. I just want to know which system has the most American channels. And service without much maintenance!
Thanks!

Thanks!Just remember, blackouts (fuera la luz) are a daily occurrence in parts of the country. If you have a generator where you plan to live or back up power, that would be good. Not sure when there is a blackout whether that will knock out the cable system power. I was in a chica's house during a blackout and she was able to connect to the internet using her Ethernet cable connection (with her laptop using the battery power of her laptop).
Not sure what cable systems exist there, some hotels and apartments where I have stayed the television reception was not the greatest, but usually I watch very little television when I am there.

Oh. And learn Spanish too. Really.
I'd suggest that you might be better off with a formal program like:
http://www.spanishcourses.info/spanish/iic_sosua_157_EN.asp
This one is in Sosua - which is as gringo occupied as it gets and hardly known for non-pro's but I'd suggest your assumptions about that are misplaced.
A formal course of 20 hours a week or more will make the difference between actually learning passable spanish or just pretending. It will make it MUCH easier to justify to an employer. You won't find such courses in non-gringo areas.
I think you can find as much non-pro action as you want in the DR just by getting on a gua-gua and visiting places and talking to chicas. Staying in a comfortable place like Sosua is a very good place to start and doesn't really interfere with that - plus there's plenty of easy p4p pussy to choose from.
Just stay away from the few gringo hang-out in town like Britannia, the Shark bar, etc and most people do not speak any english. You will have no problem being forced to use spanish and totally immersed if you just avoid deliberately seeking out gringos.
You will see on their website that there are costs given for different sorts of accommodation as well as tuition you can use in your proposal. Four hours of class a day 5 days a week will justify your trip, seriously help you learn spanish - and you will probably meet non-pro chica students of english at the same school. This school is right near the neptuno condos/the casino/ the beach/ in a shady old german-cultural association building.
You would be surprised at how little english dominicans speak even in tourist areas. You should avoid dominicans who speak english anyway, they are much more likely to be out to scam you.
As to budget the DR is not cheap. Including tuition, room and board, and some local partying money I'd budget $800 per week, at least $8000 plus airfare for 10 weeks of instruction. It would be very hard to write up a proposal like that without a formal school with a track record - but lucky for you it's in the perfect place to indulge chica chasing.

I agree with this. Participate in an organized program by day, and talk to Spanish speakers the rest of the time. In my opinion it would be best to get a steady novia and spend all the time with her and/or her family. Try to avoid speaking to ANY English speakers during your time in the country. Also watch only Spanish language TV. Also take Spanish language-learning CDs with you, especially ones where you can listen to dialogues in Spanish over and over.

Particularly if your job is coupled with oil, I would recommend Colombia or Venezuela for learning a more sophisticated level of Spanish. Dominicans, as all Spanish speaking countries, have their own slang and accents, particularly the "swollowing of the s" when speaking. Many times with the colloquial Dominican Spanish, they do not pronounce there "s" leaving you wondering if they are speaking in singular or plural. I have traveled throughout Latin America and by far the most expressive speakers of Spanish that I have enountered were Colombian or Venezuelan, perhaps because they seem to speak more clearly and without as much stucatto. To me the worst speakers are Dominican and those that speak from the roofs of their mouths in the area of Tonatico, Mexico.
Agreed that immersion is the best and fastest way however, your brain indeed will get tired and knowing some ex-pat places will be a welcome relief. I went through stages but had a head start taking two years of the language in college. Problem was, it all went to the back of my brain and 20 years later I got divorced and started traveling. Yes, I stumbled, used wrong words and laughed at myself. Spanish speakers thought I was an idiot. Then Icould carry on a conversatoin. Conversational level is the first step. Then speaking on the phone was nearly impossible as there were no body language cues to work off of. Then it was understanding some of the lyrics in music. Then it was thinking in spenish. Ten weeks will be a very very good start whereevery you go but immersion mixed with some cool ones in the ex-pat community seems best for somebody that never spoke Spinish. If like me, a second language was spoken in your home, the third language will come more easily.
Buenos suerte

Greetings my fellow mongeres,
I can't believe that someone else posted this rite before I was thinking about doing it. Robby looks like we're on the same page. I'm actually a senior in a US University and I am planning a study abroad experience for fall of 2010. I have my University already picked out in Santiago, contacts academic contacts established, " funding" in progress, my "novia (used loosely-I don't send her money but she claims to be true and faithful-whatever I'm not) is going to help me find a place close to school for about $200-250 US per month. Unfortunately, she said it will more than likely be unfurnished. The first time I visited the DR I fell in love with the country and I still feel this way close to 10 yrs later so, I am confident about living there.
Ok here we go questions. The longest that I have stayed in the DR has been a couple of days shy of a month; my educational trip is planned for no less than 1 year. I understand that I have visa issues that I need to work out which I heard is not difficult to handle. My "novia told me that many of the chicas are going to be all over me because I'm American and they think I'm the ticket out, so she knows I'm going to be banging any "grouppies"
(If any) in my place. I told her that I like living alone but, she will be welcome from time to time. Anyone think she's gonna have me set up or something crazy like that, like my good friend thinks? I have been told that Santiago is an extremely small town and people know each other and they talk/gossip incessantly. So, it won't be long before whichever chica I'm giving it to will have contact with my "novia".
Also, I was reading about the requirements for applying for Dominican citizenship (dual citizenship), residency, etc. I was wondering would this be good for me. I'm looking to visit the DR for the rest of my life and even retire there when the time is right, open a business and buy property. I'm a Semi-young guy looking at the big picture.
Also, I plan to have a job while attending school in the DR. I was told that I will not have a problem, namely, English speakers are highly desired by employers and since I already speak Spanish (not perfectly-that's the reason for trip.). I plan to do very little mongering (well that's the plan.) while on this trip but I might make it up to Sosua a couple of times for some fun.
Thanks all for your comments and advise?
Thank you for your opinion and advise.
Problem with having the same apartment for a year, is that any chicas you date, will know where to find you. Hence any chica who thinks you are her novio, can come knocking on your door day or night. Santiago is a fairly large place, it is spread out into various neighborhoods. You can juggle a couple of chicas at the same time, but eventually you might get busted by one or two.
Some rich folks in Santiago, you'll see some very expensive cars and in some bars, some guys have no problem buying bottle after bottle of champagne.
Being a college student, you'll meet plenty of college babes. Weekends are party time in Santiago, seems everyone is out. The Cabanas, Saturday night are packed.
If I was in your shoes, I would probably do it.

Here's my situation, I'm a diver and I have a weeks vacation to burn before thanksgiving. Travel without the ball n chain is becoming more difficult however this trip I will be solo. I need to do some diving to cover myself but my true intent on this trip is to sample some of the local talent. I know nothing about DR and this will be my 1st visit. My situation requires that I make a quick decision. BB's from what I've read is what I'm looking for. I can get in a couple of dives for my cover and engage in some easily accessible talent from the start.
Any help or info would be greatly appreciated

You know what you are right. initially, I thought about keeping a place for a few months and then getting another apartment but, changed my mind when I heard that I'll receive a better deal from the property owner if I stayed with one particular apartment for the entire duration of my trip. But, having heard your opinion I think it might be good to reasses my contentment with the apartment on a quarterly basis.
Thanks

Your girl is not going to like you sharing her dick and pesos with other chics. Santiago has plenty of girls. I've seen how girls gravitate to you, even my girls that youve met still ask about you. I always like to have an escape place where I can be left the fuck alone. As nice as it would initially sound, having beautiful girls stopping by daily to fuck you silly, will eventually effect your studies. When you need to play sosua is only around the corner. I would slow play the santiago situation, focus on school only while getting acclimated to the culture. You being the new guy in Santiago all eyes are on you. When the girls see that your serious about your studies, that will elevate your talent pool above that of the average monger. But when you get acclimated I would gladly visit to fuck all the puntas you jumped over. What are friends for.

Check out DR1 dot com for a forum about visas/residency/jobs etc.
Jobs are very difficult to get and pay very poorly. English/Spanish speaking will help you get a few jobs - like call centers, but they pay well below the US minimum wage. A white collar Dominican with a good job - like a Bank branch manager, might make 35,000 pesos a month or about $12,000 US a year and the only way a gringo will make US style wages are is if they are transferred in from abroad. That after all is why you are being treated like a rock star by all these chicas. Just the fact that you are an American who can afford to travel here makes you comparatively a rich man. Don't count on making any money while here unless you have an internet business or investments - you are not going to make much "working" in the DR, especially while going to school and mongering at the same time.
I think you'd have lots of great opportunities with student chicas at a university in Santiago. Of course they will all know about each other almost instantly. Years ago this would have taken a few days but now they have smart phones and facebook and twitter. Preserving some flexibility on where you live is not a bad idea.

I would recommend Colombia or Venezuela for learning a more sophisticated level of Spanish. To me the worst speakers are Dominican
What you are calling colloquial Dominican Spanish most people would call illiteracy. From a professional standpoint it can be compared to the general use of Ebonics by Black Americans. Don't get all bent out of shape because I am a Black American myself. But being a linguist I can tell you that there is a difference between knowing formal and informal language, whether written or spoken, and when and with whom to use each. Most Dominicans who speak in the colloquialisms that you are speaking of are not educated and do not know formal written or spoken Spanish. You can especially tell this by their writing as well. They will write 'b' when the letter should be 'v' or leave 'h's off the beginning of words. The same as you would find in the hood or on the block in the U.S., they can not switch between the standard and slang (as I can do with Standard Written/Spoken English and Ebonics) because they only know the one thoroughly. You are correct to recommend to the brother Colombia or Venezuela. Mexico City and San Jose, Costa Rica will do as well. But the DR is not the place to go to learn Standard or "Proper" Spanish.
I'm actually a senior in a US University and I am planning a study abroad experience for fall of 2010. I have my University already picked out in Santiago, contacts academic contacts established, " funding" in progress, my "novia (used loosely-I don't send her money but she claims to be true and faithful-whatever I'm not) is going to help me find a place close to school for about $200-250 US per month.
my educational trip is planned for no less than 1 year. I understand that I have visa issues that I need to work out which I heard is not difficult to handle.
I don't know your situation, but I did study abroads in undergrad as well as grad school (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Buenos Aires, Argentina, Johannesburg, South Africa, and Toulouse, France). Usually a study abroad is done through a program at your local institution. Not saying it does not exist, but I have never seen a program where students go to the Dominican Republic. In the programs you don't pick out your own school or contacts as you say you have done. Everything is usually already set up by your home institution (place to stay, visas, whatnot). The only time I was responsible for finding my own place to stay was in Toulouse because the dorms were being remodeled. It seems like you are trying to make your own program. If this is the case, be very careful and make sure to get everything cleared with the department head at your home institution as well as the office of academic affairs at your university. If not, it would more than likely just be a big waste of time and money for you.

Greetings Fellow Mongerers,
Thank you Marc and Mr E. for your advice and opinions. I apperciate them greatly. I am frequently on DR one but I didn't think we were allowed to mention other forms or other websites here(brain fart).
I don't plan to get rich in the DR thats not the point. I just want to earn enough to cover my daily expenses food, toothpaste, a beer or 2 etc...
As far as the education IMHO I believe it depends on the student. You could leave an individual at the best University in the world but if they lack the will to apply themselves then that doesn't reflect poorly on the university, the community at large but the individual student, IMHO. I have been a student in "bad schools", notwithstanding I have found a way to educate myself. Moreover, I have met very intelligent Dominicans, so it is pretty prejudical to say that Dominicans lack the quality to speak or communicate in proper spanish. I will be studying at an advanced University academic level so I am not throughly concerned with having a person teach me slang thus duping me and taking my money. Slang will come later. Seeing how I have fundamentals of spanish and a good working knowledge of the language I will know the difference if I notice that the professor is teaching me improperly. I am going more so to be immersed in the language and forced to speak spanish all the time allowing me to pefect my skills.

They will write 'b' when the letter should be 'v' or leave 'h's off the beginning of words. So true. I was chatting with a light skin chica who lives in Puerto Plata on msn messenger today, she asked me "Cuando tu buelves? " (When do you return)
Vuelves is the word for return. Good luck to any guys who try to use the online translation pages (like google translate) when some chicas write out the words phonetically. Quiero sometimes becomes Kiero. When they want to say bye, they usually write bay. There are a few other words that some frequently spell out phonetically, but I can't remember them now.
When chatting in msn messenger sometimes the chicas use icons (guinos in spanish? ) in place of some words and letters. There is one icon of a chica with big bouncy tits, I am not sure what letter or word that one stands for.
Greetings Fellow Mongerers,
Thank you Marc and Mr E. for your advice and opinions. Mr. E offers good advice about making sure before you study in Santiago, that you confirm with your current University/College that you will get credit for courses that you take in Dominican Republic. My nephew recently transferred to a different College and the new College only accepted about half his credits from the prior College.
From what I remember there are about three large Universities in Santiago, PUCM is one.
One is across from the Hotel Platino on Avenida Sadhalla, seems like a big University with a large campus. There is another smaller one that I saw further down past Hotel Platino on Avenida Sadhalla. Some of the Universities are private and others are public.
You can always date chicas from the surrounding areas, Moca, La Vega, Jarabacoa, Navarrete and Puerto Plata, they are within an hour of Santiago.

Very true thank you I'm working on that. I hadn't really considered dating chicas from the surrounding town/cities specifically because I will be without reliable transportation. I was adviced against buying a moto because it would be stolen b4 I can spend the nite with it.

Funny as shit. Ja ja. You know what I was thinking about that too, have a sanctuary where I can go and be left the hell alone. Shit I'm the difference between finishing out her good years in the DR or fuck me silly so I get sprung and take her back with me to the states.
Thanks BQ. What I read was that I could get a student visa in advance. But, I have heard that no matter how long I stay, over the allotted time of course, I will have to pay a fine if I stay longer than that issued by the DR when a visitor clears customs in pop or sdq etc. Visitor pay it in when they arrive its like $10 bucks US before you exit the terminal. I believe it is a travelers visa. They do the same thing in Thailand.

You will not have to pay for overstaying the tourist card, or even get a tourist ca - if you have a student visa. I think the rules are still that after 60 or 90 days you are not technically allowed to drive on a foreign drivers license, but you don't intend to drive much anyway.

After much input from ISG members on various forums I've decided to try and focus my attentions on Columbia and DR (probably in that order) in ragards as to where to go for 10 weeks to study Spanish and Chicas.
As this whole escapade still has 9 months until it's due to kick off, there is still time for travel modifications. If anyone has info that I'd find useful, such as apartment locations and costs, best cities to set up in etc. I'd appreciate it greatly.
To all of you who offered advice, I tried to PM you my thanks, but if I missed you, I offer it now.
Wherever I end up, I'll keep the ISG informed and look forward to hearing from all of you.

Both have desireable women of different flavors, but if your focus is the language, Colombia (first Spanish class: no 'U' in Colombia) is the choice.
The Spanish spoken there is the closer to the original Castillian (Castellano).
In many Latin American countries, the Spanish spoken is a local dialect, often with different words. A Spaniard wouldn't understand a good part of commonly spoken Mexican Spanish, and he wouldn't recognize what a "guagua" is. (a bus in Caribbean Spanish).
Experienced DR travelers,
I have thus far traveled to Brazil, Colombia, and Thailand. From my various travels I have come to find that I like the simplicity of going to a location where the women are already available and I do not have to do much hunting. This is generally why I like the Rio termas so much. I want to visit DR and have read many of the trip reports. Nevertheless could someone breakdown a game plan that one like myself should adhere to if one just wants to experience something similar to Brazilian termas or the Medellin Mansion in Colombia? The last time I tried to piece together information from various trip reports and create a game plan was when I traveled to Thailand, and that did not turn out to be the most prudent. So if the experienced travelers could point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.

my $.02: go to SDQ, rent a room in Hotel Jaguar (not to be confused with Jaragua) or similar guest-friendly hotel. get a map of SDQ with all the relevant locations marked (it's in the SDQ thread) and walk/ride/drive from place to place, pull the chicas you like, take them to your hotel (or love motel) and enjoy! several "clubs" have rooms by the hour on-site, IMHO this is as close as you'd get to "termas" in terms of set-up, and maybe quality (if you're willing to pay big bucks.)
Alternatively, i'm sure people will suggest Blackbeard or Field of Dreams, but IMHO the selection in BB or FOD will not match Rio in either number of chicas or in quality.

Hello and greeting fellow mongerers.
Robby seeing how you and I are on the same path, path to "learning spanish" better than what we know already. Are you sure you want to got to Colombia? Let me state that I have not been to Colombia like my friends Voyager and Rodeo have. I love the DR and I would like a fellow mongerer to come to the DR and have a blast. How commited are you to Colombia, and do you have your army ready to provide security as I hear that you need one to go to get a beer now days. So says the news, but we know we can trust that source.(SMH)

Yanqui69 hit the nail on the head; if the objective is to learn Spanish, go to Colombia. Then, test your macking skills in DR! Of course, you'll be able to get plenty of practice with the ladies in either Bogota or Medellin (although, with the Spanish, the Paisas tend to slur certain sounds--probably from too much cock gobblin').

A Spaniard wouldn't understand a good part of commonly spoken Mexican Spanish, and he wouldn't recognize what a "guagua" is. (a bus in Caribbean Spanish).
Time for a brief break from ho-mongering for a moment…
Conceptually what you are saying is true, however the magnitude of the situation you have painted is very overstated.
A Spaniard will understand 99% of the Spanish in any Spanish speaking country and vise versa. (For some reason I am afraid to write 100%). Yes there are local phrases in every country that have specific focus and a Spaniard would stumble now and then. However, the Spaniard will understand every word of the phrase and loose slightly the local context.
Example: Vamos por la guagua to a Spaniard might sound like “lets ride the bargain”. Then he would have to ask and find out the “bargain” is a economical “bus”. He understands 100% of the Spanish and 100% the intent is understood, he just had to be aware that guagua is used locally for “cheap bus”. I would never say the Spaniard is 100% lost. 20% lost at most is more like it.
Something also to be aware of…my dad had a favorite phrase he used to use that any local would understand in his region of Mexico. He used to say “Come Cuacha” as an insult. I learned later the word Cuacha was not known by any Spaniard. It came from the local Indians in the region he was from. The point here is not all words in South America are Spanish words so it is not right to classify them as part of the Spanish language and call it local Spanish. If you do I can walk around saying “Bon Appetite” is an English phrase.
Now I don’t even know if “guagua” is found in a dictionary which was written in Spain which brings me to my last story:
I have witnessed arguments between professional language translators from Spain arguing with translators from Latin America. The argument always boiled down to the dictionary. The Spaniard would bring their dictionary from Spain and the L Americans would read it, weep/ reject it, then bring out their own dictionary. Bottom line is, spanish words are spanish words. Only the application of the word strays 20% and that is not enough to state that a person from any country would be significantly confused in a different country.
For the native english speaker here... dont worry about visiting England. you will get along just fine. This is no different in the spanish world as well.
OK...Back to ho-ing… ;-)

My Spanish is far from perfect, but I know perfectly well what a guagua is. People from England, the US, Australia, and Jamaica all speak different varieties of English, but they don't have much difficulty understanding each other. Same with Spanish. My Dominican wife has no trouble chatting with her Mexican and Colombian friends, and nor do I.

I was interested in this derivation of "guagua" as "bus".
The two I have heard so far are:
1) from the use of "guagua" to mean "baby" in much of S America. Originally "baby bus" then gradually came to be used for all buses up to and including intercity giants.
2) Onomatopoeic, imitating the sound of the engine. This usage only found in the island nations.
So that's three now. Any more?

In Puerto Rico we use "guagua" to name the buses, and some vehicles as for example minivans ans suv's. I can say: "Voy a lavar mi guagua" (I am going to clean my car), it is very common. I believe both uses you mention for guagua are correct but the onomatopoeic maybe comes from the sound of the horn, not of the engine.

i have a chica that ive been making out with for the last 30 months, which is equal to 10 trips. when i tell you she's beautiful trust me, she is. she looks like lauren london. google the name. when i saw her that night 2 years plus ago i told my wingmen if i get the chance to have sex with her to night, i'm throwing away my mongering card for life. i remember when i met her at playa darada hotel complex disco, i believe they change the name 2 or 3 times since then whatever, back to her.
i can recall when i took her back to my accomadation by boys were like dam you hit the jack pot. i gave her oral sex, something i just don't do down in dr. next morning when we woke up i was like dam you still pretty, no mabeline queen here........ she gave me that smile like to say "i got you now". well she certain did have me........ i had her stay with me for three straight days. yep i broke one of the mongering commandments do not keep them past 3 days because they start to look like angels. how could i let this little angel go back out into the wild.
over the last 2 years plus she's only asked me to send her money one time in the early year...... saying the normal story my mother or father is sick. i can honestly say thanks to all the stories on this forum i didn't fall for that "for your eyes only" bullshit!
i don't want to start something i know i'm not ready to commit to. you get $$$ when i come on my trips...not before or after.
when head to dr with the boys i tell her when i'm arriving, but i always arrive 3 or 4 days before the date i give her, this is so i can get my freak on with other chicas. i call her up thur or fri and she comes over screaming please lay me out right now, i don't fall for that either. she stays the night and i head out with the boys, when i do meet something that night i get numbers and link up with the girls the next day while she's working. i don't have to rush because i always go and pick her up in pop from her job and take her home to pick up a few items. yea ive met the family and they love me, come on now, i just don't go to dr to have sex. lolol who am i kidding.
one time she tried to take charge after finding some lipstick on a towel from some chica i did during the day. asking me "who was here papi... why you freaky freaky other chica"...dam girl the devil made me do it why you asking me so many questions were not married.........ms. london makes me take out to the gas station and catches a taxi home........i get back and my boys were all laughing at me........i must say looking back that was funny.
next night i went out looking for another 10+ to take her place......this dime peace from sti approaches me. after a chatting and drinking we ended up on the famous classico dance floor dancing to my favorite song by yves larock.."rise up".........like all my trips i recall saying to myself this is the life .....not a care in the world and nothing could touch me.
just when i'm getting my super hard on dancing with this chica it feels like someones throwing daggers in my back. you mongers know that feeling. anyway i look for my wingmen and they give a sign like to say trouble coming.
i turn and see my lauren london chica looking @ me with her arms crossed dressed like the archangel ready to beat down my demon ass. she approaches me like a white g4 jet deck out in a white short miny dress. i'm trying my best not to pay her any attention. the chica that i'm dancing with says she'll be right back and heads off to the ladies bathroom. i'm like wtf is this a set up.
now ms. london comes over and dances right next to me and bends over revealing a white thong. at this time i feel like sticking my thumb in my mouth and saying mommy i'm sorry take me home. freak that i'm a jedi monger ....she not using that mind control on me, but the force is strong in her.
the chica from the bathroom comes back they start chatting......they set me up!!!!...she a sith lord.........oh your good.. you sneaky chica.....i make my way off the dance floor to get another presidente.
after i get my drink i scan the floor, she's still on the dance floor, by then she's drew the attention of other bounty hunters. i'm like, this she should be interesting. she's doing her swan dance and bounty hunters are in full steam. after a while she off on the side and a few mongers approach her and she does that lauren london sith lord smile. the whole time my boys are like dam she's a hot little devil. i found it interesting looking at her applying her trade, she's good at mind control and she knows it. i guess that why i like her so much.
anyway the lights come on and me, han solo, chewbacca and the chicas they picked up that night head out the club and walk the green mile steps out of classico too our suv.
i'm the only one solo and every chica is grabbing my ass like princess lea saying papi .....papi. we finally get pass the mob to the suv, just as i'm about to take my seat in the front passenger seat, ms. london knocks on the door and ask if she could come back to talk. i'm like what the hell get in. she sits on my lap i'm and my light saber is so hard. she's knows i'm horny has hell.
we get back and she's walking around looking sexy as hell, hmm i'm trying to resist and i'm also thinking i didn't come all the way to dr to jerk off 2 nite .........................she [CodeWord124] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord124) me like a little girl. dam i love this country!!!
what she did to me that night and many nights any other women back home would have been tired.
this sought of story has happen every trip, it's not her fault she really like me, i guess. i like make up sex it's the best!
i'm a punta chaser that is my drug of choice! why stop with 1 women when you can have them all. she has caught me more then enough times, but like i said i'm a jedi monger and my light saber does not discriminate. i need to strike them down the republic needs to be saved.
after my trips i always pass her $300 and what ever few pesos i have left. now that's my story and i'm sticking to it.
my dilemma is that one of her amigas looks like jeniffer lopez the original. like any monger i want to freaky freaky her. i don't want to mess up their friendship but dark side of the force is strong in her amiga.
what should i do?

[QUOTE=Ehunter]Time for a brief break from ho-mongering for a moment…
Yes, probably overstated.
A Spaniard (who am I to say?) would understand almost all,
but as I stated, one will find the better Spanish in Colombia versus the Caribbean. Less dialect, closer to the original. A Spaniard would require fewer translations.
Spanish-speakers know what a guagua is because someone explained it to them. They would have learned it as an "autobus".
Just as in Mexico when someone says something is "padre" or "padrisimo" (literally "father") that has to be explained to a Spaniard as well.
There are some words used in Mexico that would require translation to a Spaniard.
So how many US gringos would understand a Brit?
Where's my coat? "I put it in the car boot, mate."
huh? where?
If someone called you a "tosser" is he complimenting or insulting you?
Like I said, you will find better Castellano spoken in Colombia than in the DR.

Cordially,
Darth Vader. The way I see it is. Unless you plan on having a real relationship with the chick then don't fuk her friend bc there are plenty of other chica. But if she is just a girl that you are more fond of bc she is pretty and you have a sexual chemistry. Fuk her friend bc most likely unless you are sending a nice little stipend a month to D. R. Via western union then she is fukin and sukin other dik anyway. It is what it is. And even if you are doing the western union thing, that is not a guarantee that she is not in the streets. Most of them chicks know the game and they know 100% of the single men that go to sosua is looking for pussy that is way they are there to get the money. And a lot of them can have a 'novio' and still fuk for money bc to them that is TOTALLY different. But it is what it is. Is she bi? She may give you a happy hour with her anyway. Lolololol. In D. R. If you have PESOality, you can have your cake and eat it too.
I'll be in the DR for the very first time. I've been traveling around the world as a horny male sex tourist, so I'm no novice. I'll be near Puerto Plata for a couple of days, mostly just hanging out at the beach, looking around, etc.
I've been reading up on the DR here, heard a bit about Blackbeard's and New Garden, and was wondering which hotel you think is better. Basically, I want to stay someplace close to the airport, and where I'll be within walking distance to the beach, bars, and everything else.
I also had a question about safety and crime. How bad is it in the DR? As bad as Rio?
Thanks

I personally would not stay in Blackbeard's for more than one night, just stay in the NG, it is 5 minutes to the bars, and 10 minutes walking to the beach, NG has a few street rats looking for business hanging out at the pool, maybe 2 or three doable ones! If you want more privacy, rent a condo.
Use common sense and you will be safe, it is not like Rio, you can walk around, and not worry about armed bandits from a favela.
Make sure you check out La Passion in Sosua.

Crime in DR is high but it is higher in Rio, so you are going to be safer in DR than in Rio. A country can have a crime rate similar to another but can be safer for you. For example, according to statistics and dozens of reports, tourists are a target for delinquents in Brazil, but not in the DR. So it makes DR safer. But it you wear expensive jewelry, flash money everywhere and bring expensive electronics you can be a target for delinquents, some chicas or even some hotel employees. As stated here before: keep a low profile, do not get too drunk if you travel alone.

What should I do?Both girls are in the trade. As long as "Lauren London" gets her US$300 and "J. Lo" gets paid, I doubt that you'll have any real problems. Just DON'T pay "J. Lo" more than "Lauren London."
If you're still not sure, then hook-up "J. Lo" with a friend of yours, so you can get a performance review. She may not be worth the trouble.

For nightlife, its Sosua. Its beach is more active. It s a tourist town.
Costambar, where BB is located, is a very sleepy mostly redidential area.
The beach is 5 minutes walk away, and much more quiet, secluded. On weekends the locals use it. During the week you have it all to yourself.
Violent crime in Costambar against tourists is unheard of.
The place has a small commerical area with supermarket/money changer, pharmacy for cheap Cialis, etc. and a couple of restaurants.
As mentioned, use sense in Sosua. Don't get stupid-drunk, avoid flashing cash, avoid isolated areas, etc. Beware of the possibility of pickpockets; ie, girls brushing up against you, appearing to grope you, etc.
The rest depends on you taste. Sosua has flocks of girls everywhere trying to earn some money. Any unescorted girl(s) you meet can be presumed to be P4P. It is all up to you regarding negotiation, your expectations vs. hers, etc. You can have a great experience or poor, its buyer beware, as is always the case with street action.
BB's on one hand is often recommended for the controlled atmosphere (crazies and thieves screened out, regular medical checks, quality-controll and someplace to complain in the event of problems, etc.) In that sense it is a good idea for first-timers in DR, non-Spanish speakers, and the more experienced disdain it as "spoon-feeding". "shooting fish in a barrel", etc.
I usually recommend it for convenience and the time it saves. Also no shuttling back and forth from bar to hotel each time. Up to your tastes.
Good Luck!

It is better to stay in Sosua. You will meet lots of girls and will have a local experience. BB is a structured brothel with rooms, food , drink and resident chicas. In Sosua it is the thrill of the chase to get the girls, negotiate etc. Maybe you get a part timer GFE you can take on trips or keep her a long time.
Thanks for all the advice on thread #1570 that I have received from you guys.
Next time I'm down that way I'm strongly contemplating on playing the drunk role with her amiga one night. I think I'll shuttle her amiga off to Caberate and hit one of the bars and see where the night ends up. It will be easier for me to devide and concur then try to battle them at the same time. Deception and surpise are two key principles. That way I can always blame it on the Presidente the next morning.
For those who have been, is it worth it for a serious monger to even venture to Cabarete? Non-pros (if they are mostly tourists, are the females looking for dick)? Great food/restaurants? Shopping? If there's anything other than a plethora of available ass, then I probably wouldn't go for more than a couple of hours; if there aren't even good eats, shopping or non-pros, I probably won't even bother--I don't really do beaches except for hunting for chicas or the occasional relaxing meal.

Also to add, El Pasion in Sosua is also a structured brothel with rooms, food, drink and resident chicas with a menu of different prices. They also have a website and you can check out which girls they have before you even get there. I don't know if K-Cita is still open. Also partying at night in Cabarete is awesome which will be an easy 10/15 minutes from sosua. You are more centrally located in Sosua.
Thanks for the advice guys.
Unfortunately, NG is all booked up, so I'll be staying at BB for a couple of days. This is my first trip to the DR so I don't mind. I've heard good things about BB and Costambar too. Next time I'll check out Sosua.
One last thing: I just want to make sure I'm not paying too much. 1000 DR pesos is about right? I found that figure somewhere from a past post.

Is LaPela a generic version of Cialis? Judging by the price, is it the daily Cialis(5mg)? I've tried the generic Viagra they sell in the pharmacies in DR with variable results so looking for something that might work better for me. Any input appreciated. Thanks
LaPela is 20 mg tadalafil (Cialis). It sells for RD50 or 60/pill @ any farmacia without an Rx.

I haven't really noticed any side effects using the single 20mg dosage. With both generic La Pela and regular Cialis I get the best results when I take them several hours before I need them and for me, I do it on an empty stomach.
I have noticed that if I overdo the dosage (I get caught up in the "more is better" syndrome) that it doesn't work so well for me and I get a sour stomach. Once a day in the early afternoon works best for me. It lasts 24 hours for the La Pela and longer on the regular Cialis.
I have also been running into and getting at certain pharmacies a generic Cialis that looks just like the original. Not the red diamond La Pela tab. I found those are much closer in performace to the regular Cialis for me, lasting longer than 24 hours.

The efficacy of LaPela is not consistant, so the side effects vary as a result, I get minor "acid reflux" from regular Cialis and varied amount from LaPela.
I take 1/2 LaPela every other day and have almost no side effects, other than a pole on demand!

With LaPela I've noted acid reflux as well (normally I don't get acid reflux). I just chalked it up to eating too much fried food. Could be the pills.
One thing I've done is chew a pill, works real fast but tastes nasty.

I have used LaPella on many trips. I take it every 36 hours and it has been great for me. I have gotten a headache but it is usually when I have taken it for a few days or if I take it daily.
I also watch how much I drink. Take it on an empty stomack and it will work faster but you may have a little acid reflux. Stay away from heavy fried foods.
I like LaPella and it does the trick. I started to use it from the middle of my trip to the end when I was about on empty and still wanted to play. The first time I used it I had set up a date with Ybell and Yohanny from BB's who were lovers at the time. They were fighting and I was in the middle of their make up session...OMG! LaPella was the right drug at the right time for me.
Common law unions are legal
Live with someone and be prepared to face responsibilities. The Constitutional Revisory Assembly is including informal unions or "concubinage or common law marriages" in the Constitution. These unions will have the same rights and duties when it comes to personal and patrimony obligations as those of formally married couples. The Constitution establishes that the exclusive and stable union between a man and a woman, free of marriage impediments, that forms a de facto home, generates rights and duties in personal and patrimonial relations, in accordance with the law, as reported in Diario Libre.
Legislators also agreed that religious marriages by different religious denominations would have civil standing according to the terms established by the law, without prejudice to what is established in international treaties. In the past, only Roman Catholic Church weddings were given binding civil status.

hola yanqui!
i realize it is all about negotiation, what is the best standard price for a decent-looking freelancer 18-25 yo in sosua?
understand of course that sosua is not my favorite "fishing hole"
so sosua fans may dispute me,....but
the standard would be about 1000 pesos for a short time (1-2 hours).
(we're only talking about $28 here).
i would say 1500-1800 is okay for overnight sosua.
(i know a lot of guys pay less).
(depending on the factors below).
that price can be more or less.
if there is some rapport, and she knows/likes you, knows
she may get dinner, etc, she will take less.
other factors are circumstantial, like:
how desperate she is/you are.
is she really hot? do you really want her?
what's the level of competition from other guys?
is it closing time?
are you willing to wait till closing time?
is she a pro who knows the going price?
is she a small-town girl just off the bus?
some guys will boast about how little they paid or
how they "broke her down" to sex for a meal, etc.
i occasionally take heat for it, but i don't mind paying
a fair price, as the majority of the girls are just paying the
bills, feeding their kids, not making a payment on their mercedez benz.
i'm there for sex, not to be exploited or to be too exploitive of someone's
poverty or misfortune. (i still have a relationship with a dominicana who busted (and sold) her ass to finish college; -and now she finds that jobs don't exist, or pay so little that one can barely pay the bills, much less save for a house, business, etc. - so a college grad has to work as a chica to pay the bills. so i am often more sympathetic to the girls than a lot of the mongers you will find on this site. i am a monger, but my membership card for the human race has not been revoked. -okay, i'll get off my soapbox).
in sosua you have to judge the girls, to see what kind of person they are.
you would prefer the sweet small-town girl vs. the hard core pro
because...
hazards are: big promises-poor/lack of performance, theft, outright fraud/scams -avoid girls with no id-cedula. an **** girl will get you in jail or extort money from you to avoid jail.
it helps a lot if you speak spanish.
start at a little less than 1000, and if you end at 1000, you did well.

I have also noticed that a lot of these girls come from other cities so they may have a one bedroom apt with about 8 other chicas that come in and out. So if one likes you, she may come home with you for a little of nothing just to kick back in another environment.
Yamqui69 prices are right and exact. Just depends on the chica and her demand. I have seen the hottest chicas ask for 3000 and get it from just about everybody, but the AVERAGE rate is $1500-$2000 overnight depending on the factors taht Yan explained.
Hola Yanqui!

RD1000 ST
RD1500 TLN
Right now it is a buyer's market, so there is no "standard" price, they take what you pay them!
Obviously a few more RD Pesos for good performance won't skew the chica marketplace, but a little negotiation gets your price these days. Convince them it is a recession for you too.
Spend the extra hour finding a non hard core chica, there are many, avoid high mileage.

Well said. I get too carried away.
Yanqui & Buscemi are stating some excellent points relating to the price structure in the DR. I've noticed that many of the very good looking hard core putas are the ones asking for RD2,500/3,000+ for TLN. Many of them because of their looks know they can command those prices from newbie mongers, who don't know the price structure and have money to burn.
Now, the young girls fresh on the scene can easily be had for RD1,000/1,500+ and they are the ones who would give a better gfe to the mongers. There are a few hard core putas that are OK, but the majority I stay away from.
Also, a good tip is to grab a chica for a happy hour in the daytime so you can check her out thoroughly and try to receive some good or bad vibes. I hear too many stories of guys having bad experiences drinking all night and randomly picking a disco chica in the dark.

Terry U I agree about having a short time with a girl in the light of day. I have been a long time visitor at BB's and other places / countries. I have made it my rule that I would not have an all night date that I had not been with either on prior trip or had been with ST. It seems that when I break my rule I am almost always disappointed with the experience. I know many guys that would just kick the girl out and send her on her way. I can't do that.
There are many guys that will not keep anyone over night. I like it with the right person. It is fun to have a nice dinner out maybe go dancing or the casino, screw around all night and then finish with breakfast the next morning.
On my travels to Spanish speaking countries I have encountered many experienced mongers that may not know complete Spanish but know key phrases that not only allow them to carry on decent conversations with chicas but also negotiate pricing as well. Such simple phrases, I believe, should be contained in some sort of mongering Spanish guide. Much like Spanish lessons for tourists. Does such a book or electronic copy exist? I am studying Spanish but it would be such a big help if I could condense what I want to say more precisely and work from there.

Planning my first trip to DR. I have RTFF and still have not got a good handle on which would be a better spot, Sosua or Boca Chica.
My main questions are which spot gives you the best bang for your buck and a good selection of Chica's. Also which one has better deals on hotels?
As always I will write a report on my adventures.
thanks in advance for any input.

Thanks in advance for any input. For a first trip, Sosua is better than Boca Chica. Boca Chica at times can be a little rough around the edges, especially at night. Sosua has a wider selection of chicas. The one advantage Boca Chica has, is that it 30 minutes from the capital, Santo Domingo, so if you have a car, you can easily drive into Santo Domingo to sample the many chicas in La Capital. If you don't plan on renting a car, go to Sosua.
For a first trip, Sosua is better than Boca Chica. Boca Chica at times can be a little rough around the edges, especially at night. Sosua has a wider selection of chicas. I agree, Sosua without a doubt.

If you have limited Spanish ability and are a first timer. I recommend Blackbeards http://www.blackbeardsadultresort.com/reservations.html

RD1000 ST
They will ask for:
2000 ST
3000 TLN
They will generally agree to half that with some negotiating. If you can get the chica you like for 1000/1500 you've good job and paid a "fair standard" price.
I was browsing though the ISG website and came across this in the Kenya forum. Interesting and funny I must say.

Bizarre sex laws
By Crazy Writer
When the G10 women demanded a sex boycott all over Kenya, one might have thought the call as crazy as they get, but apparently countries all over the world have sex laws that are crazier than the demands for a simple boycott.
Sample the following:
1
The penalty for masturbation in Indonesia is decapitation.
2
In Lebanon, men are legally allowed to have sex with animals, but the animals must be female. Having sexual relations with a male animal is punishable by death.
3
In Bahrain, a male doctor may legally examine a woman’s genitals, but is forbidden from looking directly at them during the examination. He may only see their reflection in a mirror.
4
Muslims are banned from looking at the genitals of a corpse. This also applies to undertakers; the sex organs of the deceased must be covered with a brick or piece of wood at all times.
5
Most Middle Eastern countries observe the following Islamic law: "After having sexual relations with a lamb, it is a mortal sin to eat its flesh."
6
There are men in Guam whose full-time job is to travel the countryside and deflower young virgins, who pay them for the privilege of having sex for the first time. Reason: under Guam law, it is expressly forbidden for virgins to marry.
7
In Cali, Colombia, a woman may only have sex with her husband, and the first time this happens her mother must be in the room to witness the act.
8
In Santa Cruz, Bolivia, it is illegal for a man to have sex with a woman and her daughter at the same time.
9
In Maryland, it is illegal to sell condoms from vending machines with one exception: Prophylactics may be dispensed from a vending machine only "in places where alcoholic beverages are sold on the premises."
10
In Hong Kong, a betrayed wife is legally allowed to kill her adulterous husband, but may only do so with her bare hands. (The husband’s lover, on the other hand, may be killed in any manner desired.)

My novia told me about this law but I told her she was crazy, okay she was right but she's still crazy.

The girls always complain about:
image 1 : mi hijo no tiene leche (my baby has no milk)
image 2: mi mama esta enferma (my mother is sick)
image 3: no tengo para pagar la renta (I have no money for my apartment rental)
image 4 : mi hijo no ha comido, yo tampoco ( my son has no food, me neither)
That is what they really want, right???
Another one is they need money to pay for the University.

I published in the map a link to a taxi company that offers a $28 price from SDQ airport to the city, which is $12 less than airport taxi guys. I called today to Zona Oriental office and they quoted me 750 pesos, which is barely over $20. I do not understand why the price difference but can infer that it is a taxi that comes from west of river (the $28 taxi) instead of east (the $20 taxi).
I spoke with a few chicas during my last trip. One light skin attractive Santiago chica who works in an electronics store told me she gets paid 2,000 pesos for every 15 days of work, she works at least 8 hours per day.
A light skin attractive chica in La Vega told me she gets paid 250 pesos per day, for 8 hours of work.
I was told prices for motoconchos, 20 pesos and up. A taxi 150 pesos and up.
I was told the price of Platanos has fallen, something like 3 pesos in the street, 5 or 6 pesos per platano in a store. One pound of good rice, 20 pesos.
Sometimes when the chicas have semi rough hands, I can understand it, some drive scooters. Many chicas live in houses with various locks and gates, many times the metal gates and locks get stuck, requiring more force to open them, I can see how some Dominican chica's hands may not be the softest.
I drove by one bar and they a had a special, large bottles of presidente beer for 50 pesos.
When driving outside of Santo Domingo, especially east of Santo Domingo you will see women standing on the side of the road. they are waiting for publicos. Some people will wait on the side of a busy road in the grass, no sidewalks in some places, until the publico comes by. The publico will stop to pick them up. A publico is a van or small bus.
I have driven by some chicas and they motioned me to stop, sort of like hitchhiking.
I drove into one place in La Romana to get gas, I looked at the pumps and they looked different. The place looked like a gas station, but it was a propane station. Some cars have propane tanks in their trunks. Other people had tanks to be refilled for use in their homes. I have seen plenty of people carrying a large propane tank on a motorcycle with a motoconcho.

Propane gas is subsidized by government to avoid the deforestation problems Haiti has. It costs around 65 pesos or less than 2 dollars per gallon. People in Haiti make coal from wood or use tree branches to cook, deforesting vast green areas of the country. In Dominican Republic gasoline cost more than $4 dollars per gallon which is more than double the price or propane so most cars have a propane tank which also provides better mileage than gasoline and is more environment friendly. The big problem with propane tank on cars is that installation is not regulated and death by tank explosions occur with some frequency.
7 bucks a day. Can't imagine. If a few of the 'hoes in this town had to live like that, maybe we'd see a slight attitude change

(And its not uncommon to work 6 days a week).
Difficult to imagine how a person or a family survives, isn't it?
Fully employed, work your butt off and still exist at barely the survival level,
let alone save a little for house, car, education, etc.
(and the economy is even worse now, -thousands of tourism jobs lost).
So working in the sex trade is the only solution for many women.

Samsung camera phone, my local Walmart has them in stock. This phone can be unlocked in the Dominican Republic for 250 pesos, thereafter you can get a phone number for Claro (Codetel) for free. Thereafter you add minutes by buying Claro cards which can be purchased in 100, 250, 500 pesos denominations. Claro cards can be bought in the street and at many stores, colmados etc.
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=12534599
Can be a good gift for a chica as well. Or buy two and keep one plugged in while in Dominican Republic and you will always have a charged battery that you can swap into the phone that you use.
I have been told that Orange can be more economical, I was told that Orange calculates usage by the second, whereas Claro calculates usage by rounding up to the nearest minute. I have not used Orange.

I don't think there are much social services programs such as welfare, or unemployment insurance.
Jet ahead towards your next Award Flight and save 50%!
It's the easiest way to get your next Award Flight. Buy TrueBlue points between October 12 to 26, 2009 and get a 50% discount!
100 points gets you a round trip ticket. Jet Blue flies into Puerto Plata, Santiago and Santo Domingo. (Jetblue also flies into Bogota, Colombia)
10 points $25
40 points $100
90 points $225
Seems the max number of points you can buy is 90. But you can probably have a friend who is a jetblue member buy you points if you want to get to 100.
You will still have to pay for all airport taxes, which when flying into the Dominican Republic can be about $130 dollars.
There is an added fee of $20 per transaction and a 7.5% tax
(TrueBlue Buy Point Pricing, Prices are in US Dollars and do not include a $20 Transaction Fee or 7.5% Federal Excise Tax. Purchased Points are nonrefundable.)
For me flying from jfk to sdq, it doesn't really help me much. Round trip flights from jfk to santo domingo are $351 dollars now. Sometimes the price goes down to $311 round trip. Might be useful for other guys who live further away or who may want to fly into Bogota or any of the other destinations that Jetblue flies into.

I see that a lot of people travel to DR on a regular basis and have plenty of info to share. I'm seriously considering leaving the US and reside in DR. I would like to know if anyone could share job opportunities and living in DR. I do not know the specific areas to work or reside nor have a clue of where to start. I recently turned 40 but still have a young spirit.
Please advise.
Check out the forum DR1 dot com for a vast amount of information on these questions. There is little or no opportunity to get a job that will pay you more than starvation wages (literally). You can try to get a job with a foreign company that will send you to the DR, or create your own business, or work online. The majority of expats have pension or investment income. At 40 you are still a kid by expat standards .
I know I forget quite often but every once in awhile we need to go to our PMs and delete the old ones to make room for new PMs.
I just cleaned mine up, why not do the same?

I left the US years ago and I reside in the DR. I guess from what the other poster commented, I am very young by expat standards.
If you are thinking of working here you should look into working at one of the resorts or working for one of the call centers. Outside of that you will not make enough to survive and you probably won't with one of those jobs. If you are a professional maybe that is a different story but, if you are trying to get a regular job, even if you get one you are shit out of luck.
If you are considering moving here, in my oppinion, you should first come for an extended period and stay in different places to see if you really like it. (In my case, I first came here and stayed in a little country town. I was only supposed to be here for a week but, enjoyed it so much I stayed for 4 months. I was actually living in the DR for a year and a half before I ever went to Sosua. (I didn't like it then and I still don't like it.)) If you do decide to move please, plan ahead. It's a very easy transition if you plan ahead. Depending on where you decide to settle you can find all the comforts of home here.
I hope this helps.
P.S. 40 is the new 25

Please advise.Travel and see the island. See which areas you like the best. The interior part of the island has mountains. An area called Costanza is in the mountains, it has cool temperatures in the evenings and has fresh water streams and small rivers. Plenty of other towns and cities near the ocean (north coast) and the sea (south coast).
North coast lies near a fault line that runs from Puerto Rico, there have been earthquakes in the past on the north coast. North Coast never gets the full impact of Hurricanes. South Coast is more prone to get hit by hurricanes. Some areas in the interior are susceptible to flooding. From what people have told me, the area that is seeing some economic growth is around Bavaro and Punta Cana (east coast), the nearest city to Bavaro/Punta Cana is Higuey.
From what I have read, the President of the Dom Rep, Leonel Fernandez has property in Bavaro/Punta Cana and therefore has a vested interest in seeing development there.

good luckI would strongly suggest that you go down for several weeks to "TRY" before you decide. You have to remember that much of the DR economy is based on tourism and the current world-wide recession is taking a big hit on the DR economy. I would guess that the current overall DR unemployment is about 15-20%. I would strongly suggest that you contact Monetx (Punta Cana forum) as he lives in the DR and could give you excellent advice. I know that I can not live without A/C and the electric system is shit in the DR and most parts of the country are lucky to have 8 hours per day of electric power. Also electric cost is about 2x the cost in the USA. Most management jobs would pay about $800-$1, 000 us dollars per month but I don't think that employment is easy to obtain. Also, cars are expensive, gasoline is 2x the cost here, and everyone drives like fools. I welcome all mongers who RESIDE in the DR to give this good man some advice.
Hope this helps.

good advice about how to avoid crime in the dom rep
from the u.s. state department:
crime: crime continues to be a problem throughout the dominican republic. street crime and petty theft involving u.s. tourists does occur, and precautions should be taken to avoid becoming a target. while pick pocketing and mugging are the most common crimes against tourists, reports of violence against both foreigners and locals are growing. valuables left unattended in parked automobiles, on beaches and in other public places are vulnerable to theft, and reports of car theft have increased.
travelers to the dominican republic should strongly consider leaving valuable property at home. the embassy recommends bringing no item on your trip that cannot be easily replaced and to make contingency plans in case of theft. these precautions include: making photocopies of all credit cards and licenses which include the numbers to call in order to report theft; photocopies of passports and birth certificates; and leaving emergency funds with someone at home in case it is necessary for money to be sent on short notice.
carry cellular telephones in a pocket rather than on a belt or in a purse. avoid wearing headphones, which make the bearer more vulnerable and readily advertise the presence of a valuable item. limit or avoid display of jewelry; it attracts attention and could prompt a robbery attempt. limit cash and credit cards carried on your person. store valuables, wallet items, and passports in a safe place.
there are continuing reports of thefts that target americans as they leave the airport in a taxi that lacks air-conditioning. the driver rolls down the windows and when the taxi stops at a traffic light, a motorcyclist reaches in and steals a purse or anything they can grab. travelers are advised to utilize the taxi service authorized by the airport if they have made no arrangements before arrival. even when using such an authorized taxi service, americans should always be aware of the potential for a criminal to stalk travelers leaving the airport parking area. take measures to safeguard your personal security at all times.
the dangers present in the dominican republic are similar to those of many major u.s. cities. criminals can be dangerous -- many have weapons and are likely to use them if they meet resistance. visitors walking the streets should always be aware of their surroundings. be wary of strangers, especially those who seek you out at celebrations or nightspots. travel with a partner or in a group if possible.
many public transportation vehicles are unsafe, especially the route taxis or “carros publicos” in urban areas. these are privately owned vehicles that run along certain routes, can take up to six or more passengers, and are inexpensive. passengers in “carros publicos” are frequently the victims of pick pocketing, and passengers have on occasion been robbed by “carro publico” drivers. urban buses (“guaguas”) are only marginally better. the u.s. embassy is also aware of at least one incident in which the driver of a “motoconcho” (motorcycle taxi) robbed an american passenger. the u.s. embassy cautions its staff not to use these modes of transportation. as an alternative, some scheduled interurban bus services use modern buses and run on reliable timetables. these are generally the safest means of intercity travel. with respect to taxis, visitors to the dominican republic are strongly advised to take only hotel taxis or taxis operated by services whose cabs are arranged in advance by phone and can subsequently be identified and tracked.
drivers should exercise extreme caution when driving at night and use major highways when possible. in 2006, the u.s. embassy received reports of americans and others who were victims of vehicular-armed robberies in the northern provinces of the dominican republic. at least three of the reports indicate the victims were intercepted during the morning hours, when there was little other traffic, while driving on rural highways connecting santiago and puerto plata.
although kidnappings are not common in the dominican republic, in 2007, two american citizens were kidnapped and held for ransom, in separate instances.
the american embassy calls attention to certain criminal techniques that have surprised americans and other victims:
several individuals reported robberies perpetrated by criminals on mopeds (often coasting with the engine turned off so as not to draw attention). the driver approaches a pedestrian, grabs his or her cell phone, purse or backpack, and then speeds away. this type of robbery is particularly dangerous because the motorcyclist reaches the intended victim at 15–20 miles per hour and often knocks the victim to the ground.
the embassy received two reports in 2008 of a crime involving police collaboration. a seemingly-friendly stranger shakes hands with a tourist, who then finds that the stranger has placed a small baggie of cocaine or other substance into the tourist’s hand. the tourist is then immediately apprehended by the police, who settle the case for a fee.
americans were victimized more than once this year at santo domingo’s airport as they checked in their luggage and prepared to leave the country. smugglers obtained an authentic airline baggage tag in a u.s. citizen’s name and placed it on baggage that contained drugs, presumably to be retrieved by a confederate at the other end of the flight.
criminals may also misrepresent themselves in an effort to gain access to your residence or hotel room. in one 2005 homicide, a u.s. citizen was murdered by two men who posed as repairmen to gain access to the apartment. in another similar case, in 2008 the dominican police arrested the building’s actual maintenance man and an accomplice for a crime. there were also instances in 2008 when u.s. citizens were robbed of large amounts of cash just before a scheduled financial transaction by thieves with apparent inside knowledge of the transaction. in one case a u.s. citizen was robbed just outside his attorney’s office, and in another case a u.s. citizen claimed he was victimized by two police officers.
the u.s. embassy continues to receive reports from americans who have been stopped while driving and asked for “donations” by someone who may appear to be a police officer before they are allowed to continue on their way. usually, the person(s) stopping the american drivers had approached from behind on a motorcycle; several of these motorcyclists pulled up alongside the driver's window and indicated that they were carrying a firearm. in some cases, the perpetrators were dressed in the light green uniform of “amet,” the dominican traffic police; however, they often seemed too young to be police officers or wore ill-fitting uniforms that might have been stolen. in another incident, individuals dressed in military fatigues told the victim they were police and requested the victim to follow them to the police station prior to robbing him. such incidents should be reported to the police and to the consular section. if dominican police stop an american driver for a traffic violation, the driver should request a traffic ticket rather than paying an on-the-spot fine. the driver also has the right to ask police for identification. regulations require police to wear a nametag with their last name. while everyone driving in the dominican republic should abide by traffic laws and the instructions of legitimate authorities, americans finding themselves in the aforementioned scenarios should exercise caution. in general, drivers should keep their doors locked and windows closed at all times and leave themselves an escape route when stopping in traffic in the event of an accident or other threat. incidents involving police may be reported to the internal affairs department of the national police at 809 688-1777 or 809 688-0777.
travelers are advised to use credit cards judiciously while in the dominican republic. credit card fraud is common and recent reports indicate that its incidence has increased significantly, in santo domingo as well as in the resort areas of the country.
travelers who elect nevertheless to use their credit or debit cards should never let the cards leave their sight. they should also pay close attention to credit card bills following time spent in the dominican republic. there have been reports of fraudulent charges appearing months after card usage in the dominican republic. victims of credit card fraud should contact the bank that issued the credit card immediately.
travelers are also advised to minimize the use of automated teller machines (atms), which are present throughout santo domingo and other major cities. one local atm fraud scheme involves sticking photographic film or pieces of paper in the card feeder of the atm so that an inserted card becomes jammed. once the card owner has concluded the card is irretrievable, the thieves extract both the jamming material and the card, which they then use. there are other atm scams as well. exercise caution and be aware of your surroundings when using an atm card.
the overall level of crime tends to rise during the christmas season, and visitors to the dominican republic should take extra precautions when visiting the country between november and january.http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1103.html
$89 U.S. dollars each way on Jetblue, to Santiago, Puerto Plata and Santo Domingo, many direct flights from JFK, New York. With the taxes and airport fees (appx. $130) round trip ticket costs about $311.
I like the 1:05AM departure from JFK, which arrives in Santo Domingo before 6AM and for returning I usually take the 7:55PM departure out of Santo Domingo.
Alamo rent a car is open 24 hours at Santo Domingo airport. Sometimes I'll drive over to Juan Dolio beach when I arrive at 6AM and hang out there until I can check into my hotel (check in for most hotels is 3PM), some hotels will let you check in early.
Embassy Suites in Juan Dolio is a nice hotel for about $99 per night. Free breakfast, golf course on the property. It is located inside a gated community with some nice private homes. Rooms have a separate bedroom and a living room with a pull out sofa bed, two televisions in each room. I believe the dinner buffet there is an extra 8 dollars per night.

Hey guys
Heading for Sosua next week and need a little help. I have a problem with ear infection from time to time. I know amoxicillin is readily available over the counter in DR. Is there anything better or stronger that works a little quicker? Amoxicillin takes 10 days to really do the job, almost my entire vacation. The ascending/decending on the plane really does a number on me. Thanks

The zithromax antibiotics come in 500mg pills, 500 milligrams, not 500 grams, sorry for the mistake.
1.1 lb pills would have been tough to swallow.
I was down in the DR twice last month, both times for a couple of days; the first time I was in Costambar, the second time was in Sosua. I have to say, I liked Costambar better.
I didn't really care much for the girls at Blackbeard's (they were not very attractive IMO), but it's still a well run hotel. clean, safe, efficient. The hotel is run by some American guys, so when there was a problem they fixed it right away. It's also in a gated community where it's quiet, safe, very few people, everything within walking distance. Nice beach nearby too. I recommend it.
I didn't like it so much in Sosua, to tell you the truth. Didn't like the busy crowds, the tourists, the whole tacky looking atmosphere with the bars and such. And the girls looked only so-so. Plus, some had business like attitudes which didn't make sex very easy or pleasing. I actually would have preferred ordinary non-pros, and I think I would have pulled a few, but I only had so much time. Hung out mostly in Cabarete where there is a really nice beach.
One more thing I noticed in Sosua: I bought generic and real Viagra in the drugstores only to find out later they didn't work. Is this typical? Are pharmacies in Sosua (or the DR) unreliable when buying ED drugs? Cause that's my experience so far.

Over several years I have never had this problem. Do you think these were fake drugs, or possibly had just been stored overlong in at incorrect temperatures? Mostly I have used LaPela, or sometime generic viagra, and have bought them from the pharmacy in Costambar, and mostly from the pharmacy near Classico in Sosua, or the one at the gas station, which seem to be ethically run pharmacies. Of course, you never know for sure.
I was down in the DR twice last month, both times for a couple of days; the first time I was in Costambar, the second time was in Sosua. I have to say, I liked Costambar better.

Sosua girls only So so? Sex wasnt pleasing? Fake ed drugs? I respect your opinion but I just left BB and sosua and had the time of my life. After reading some of your previous reports I would suggest you change your mongering mode. You are to critical and want everything perfectly set up for you. You need a place with no other males and the most beautiful girls in the world waiting to sex you. But wait, your a self claimed cheapo, so is that scenario realistic? Please be a little more open minded to different things, good and bad. I would suggest you go to a bar and buy a fellow monger a couple drinks, then pick a soso girl and have good sex but pay her fair. Here is a secret, most sexual drugs don't have full effect if your full of negative energy (they contradict each other). I'm not trying to offend just offering some advice to a fellow mongerer.
Good Luck

Good LuckBooferwell, I did say I liked Costambar, and I put in a good word for BBs. If you're into P4P that's the place to B. I just didn't find the girls at BBs all that attractive, but that's just me. I think if I had had more time, I would've pulled a few non-pros (pulled one, in fact) cause chatting up Dominican girls there is pretty easy, even if you speak Englsh.
And yeah, I guess I'm picky. But so what? I don't think I would've gone there if I wasn't open minded. That doesn't mean I have to like it. I did find a few girls in Sosua who were pretty hot. like this one Haitian chick working at a massage parlor who was a real stunner, nice breasts, ass (I find black women from other countries much more attractive and appealing than black American women BTW). Too bad her personality wasn't all that great. And I will say Dominican chicks have pretty awesome bodies that put American/Anglo women to shame. I'm just saying the whole Sosua atmosphere wasn't for me, since I prefer someplace quieter with fewer people around. But again, it's a great place if you're into the whole mongering scene, so knock yourself out there.
And I do pay a fair price (and then some), as much as anyone else getting the same thing. I don't stiff or lowball anyone. And yes, the generic drugs were duds. I never had the same problem when I bought generic in other countries.

If I use Xoom to send money to myself before I travel, what type of identification am I required to have in order to pick up the money? Is the passport the only thing I will be asked for?

All you need is a passport. I won't ask why you are using Xoom, since there are much more cost effective ways to have access to your money via PAYPAL or an ATM @ certain banks.

My ATM card has been scammed before in Colombia. There's nothing like coming back home late at night and not being able to pay to get my car out of the airport parking lot because someone emptied my account. Probably should've had a back up plan back then, so for now the ATM card will be my last option. Thanks for the repply.
What do you mean your atm card was scammed? Can you elaborate? How was it done?
What do you mean your atm card was scammed? Can you elaborate? How was it done?
I wish I knew how it was done. Back in Colombia (Santa Marta) I got in the habit of using the same ATM (BBVA) almost everyday, and after 1 week there someone started drawing money out of my account from different cities around the country. Same thing happened to a friend of mine while staying in Barranquilla. It was as if they cloned the cards. Maybe someone here is more familiar with the possibilities that cause these issues.
I have been going to RD for almost 10 years, and have never had an ATM issue. If you are paranoid you can take several precautions. Transfer the funds in as needed from another account online, so you do not have a lot to steal, secondly, use the ATM inside the bank at the teller and/or only use it during banking hours. A backup ATM card/account is always a good idea. I monitor the account for activity frequently online as well.
Make sure you have the non 1-800 number to call your bank in the event you lose the card to a hungry machine.
On my last trip I usually had in my pocket a Princeton Tec Impulse LED micro flashlight, it is a very small one led flashlight, a little bit bigger than a Quarter coin. I was in a few homes when the power went out and after drinking presidente beer, a trip to the bathroom is always necessary, with the small flashlight, no problem finding the bathroom. That little flashlight comes in handy. The very small LED flashlights are made by different companies, they use a flat circular battery than can be changed. Also useful for seeing your money in a dark bar or to see the bill (la cuenta) in a dark bar. Photon is another type that I used in the past. They can be purchased online from 6 dollars and up.

My 295 peso or $8 dollar Nokia phone that I bought on the Claro store has a led light thats serves as a flashlight, very potent small bulb. I discover that from a chica, how can I imagine a cellphone with a flashlight? LOL.

First I use Verizon; I have been getting texts from a chica in the DR and thought I would send her one back. I replied to the text and even tried putting a 1 in front of the number. What I noticed was that the texts are being sent out but there is no delivery date and time listed for the message in the sent box and a green arrow shows next to the message rather then a green check.
Anybody have any idea why they aren't being delivered? Is it her phone? Do I need to do something different? Verizon was no help at all other then charging me for texts that never made it, so I thought I would try here.....Thanks in advance!

Because she is on orange and you have to buy a card to send her a text message because they steal big time.

Chances are the problem is with the carrier in the DR. Sometimes the system is down and the texts won't go through. The reason why Verizon is charging you is that they use a third party to handle international calls and texts and once you send it they charge you because they are being charged even though it may not go through. I have been through this with Verizon many times because I use my Verizon "world" phone in Colombia on a regular basis and it is something like $2.50 a minute for calls to and from Colombia and I get billed even if the call doesn't connect.
Thanks guys...I come here and I learn more than 30 minutes on the phone with some dumb ass Verizon tech. My guess is the service is down in the DR but at least I now know I am not missing something as far as some special "instructions" to text the DR.

Appears some of the texts were sent at 4pm and their was about a 7 hour delay in my receiving them. On my Claro phone it just gives the phone number (even if the person is a contact in my phone, it does not show the saved named of the contact). When I click reply it never works. To reply I have to enter the phone number in a new text message or choose a contact from my phone and send the text message that way.
I can remember years ago, I was able to send text messages to cell phones, using my computer and the internet, I haven't tried that in a long time.

For my trip in November the airfare was hundreds less to SDQ than POP, so I decided to spend a few days in Santo Domingo and rent a car to get to POP. I was a bit apprehensive having read the various reports, and drove only during daylight hours or early evening. Rented from Avis, and paid about $120 for six days, which compared favorably to airport taxi R/T and bus fares. Drivers are crazy, but not as bad as Italy or Peru, and there are functioning traffic signals. The four-lane highway from Santo Domingo to Santiago was a breeze. Driving across Santiago is not too bad, but be sure to have a good map, as signs are lacking. Even the two-lane from Santiago to Puerto Plata was decent, a few slow trucks but manageable. The whole trip was less than four hours. Car was useful for going to ATM (stayed at BB), going into town, etc. I concur with others that subcompact is less conspicuous than 4x4 and gas is expensive. One bad experience was on final day, staying at SDQ airport hotel, drove to beach and was pulled over by motorcycle cops. Gave me some stupid story about driving erratically and not signaling, couldn't really articulate the violation, but finally asked for 1500 DP and settled for 700. I would not rent a car if I did not speak decent Spanish, and prob. would recommend having a wingman or two along for the ride. It would be useful to know the rules of the game on these traffic stops, but maybe there are none. In sum, driving is doable, but stressful until you have spent a lot of time in DR.

When guys on a motorcycle stop you, they very well could be just two guys with a stolen uniform. You are not required to pay any traffic fine on the spot. If it is a legitimate traffic stop they should give you a written traffic ticket, if they refuse to give you a written traffic ticket, then it is a bogus stop and you are within your rights not to pay anything.
Police in Dominican Republic earn very little, as such, many of the police look for ways to supplement their income. Real National Police will pull you over in Santo Domingo, it is your choice whether you want to have a discussion with them and after 5-10 minutes be own your way without paying anything or whether you want to give them a small tip (100-300 pesos) so that you can keep just moving with no delays. Some guys just ignore the police standing in the street when they are driving by. Some people in the Dom Rep are complaining about the police being very quick to shoot suspects.

Infraction?). The $20 seemed worth it at the time. The point I guess is not to minimize the hassles and dangers of renting a car until you are familiar with the lay of the land. I also got rear-ended in Santiago, but no damage and some friendly conversation resolved that incident.

I speak a pretty decent amount of spanish and still won't rent a car. Even at the ridiculous prices the taxi drivers charge it isn't saving you money. The convenience factor of having a car though makes me want to grow a set of balls and go for it though.
Yeah, it occurred to me about five minutes after the stop that they were probably not real cops and I should have asked for a written ticket (limitations of my Spanish: wasn't quite sure about the term. Fake motorcycle cops have robbed people in the past. 20 dollars for their Navidad, no biggie.
Driving in Zona Oriental at night I always get stopped, usually at least three times.

Does anyone know how many times you can get an Orange sim card. I got one in July 2009 and got another one in December 2009. I will be going to Sosua in April 2010, can I get another one, I thought someone told me you can only be issued two in a year. I have an unlocked Blackberry from T-Mobile that works great. If I can't get another Orange Sim card to work with my Blackberry, would I have to go to Claro and buy a phone from them, its not what I want to do. Should I have a chica just go in the Orange store and get me a sim card in her name, would they need the phone. I am not to keen giving any chica my Blackberry. Any info is appreciated.
Thanks

Good luck in buying a sim. I was down there last week and thank god my chip still worked. My friend couldn't buy a chip because DR is running out of numbers. The only sell to local's and tourist that stay more then 90 days. Have a local person buy you a sim or find one the hustlers on the street that sell phone activated for 12 dollars. I have Claro
When I decide to go somewhere new I need to know logistics of a place.
I would like to recommend dividing the general information sections into the following.
FAQ...
Airport information,
Does the airport have jet ways? A place to eat in case I am running late I can grab something before boarding. Does the place have duty free? Like what to expect with passport and customs. What fees that I need to pay once arriving or exiting. Does the airport have ATM's and does the exchange place give you a fair rate or rip you off? Can you buy a sim card at the airport? Transportation to and from airport. Does the airport have a bus, train, taxis and its associated costs? What rental car companies are at the airport?
Rental cars.
Who's the good or bad ? With service and getting you checked in and checked out. Which one will try to upgrade with all the BS fees that will try to tell you that is mandatory and yet the website doesn’t list it.
Taxis
What’s a fair price and any local contacts that can help fellow ISG members?
ATM’s
Where can they be found and which banks your can take money out and any BS fees
Eating
What’s a good restaurant and it won’t give you the runs and any menu recommendations.
Internet, Cell phone, Calling back home or the girls
Does the country have internet restrictions. (China) Can you use vonage, magic jack, Skype if not is there a work around? Can you post on ISG when in that country if not what proxy works best. What cellular technology does the place have and what do you need to get plugged in locally. Once you get a prepaid sim(GSM) or have you phone reprogrammed (CDMA) how would you call home? Some countries you need special dialing codes to call back home incase your in a bind. 001, +1, 0041. etc etc..
Hotels, Apartments, Resorts
I think that section can improve. It should be organized like does the hotel offer breakfast. Airport pickup, Guest friendly what amenities does it offer.
Areas to be around and or avoid.
Now that may be to the beholder since some people here like going to bad sections to get there cheap thrills. What places a newbie should avoid and what sections the more advance traveler can go.
Other then that I know what to do. Sometime the posts get all polluted with people bragging and how many girls they did and that they made them cum. That they really love them etc etc etc. Even putting them in an apartment and send them money once a month she still selling pussy while your not around. Also stories is yeah I got her as a freebie. But failed to mention that you took her shopping or a fancy restaurant, look in the end you’re still paying for pussy.

Does anyone know how many times you can get an Orange sim card.
In my experience, you can only get three from Orange when you register using your passport. I've had to resort to asking Dominican friends to get others for me using their Cedulas. There doesn't seem to be a limit for them. Or, as you suggest, go for Claro but coverage isn't so good.
I personally leave my DR sim card with a friend to keep it activated while I am away.

Thanks, but no luck. I gave it a try but MSN messenger does not list area code 829 as a country code selection.
I just want to say Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you all! Feliz Navidad y próspero Año Nuevo! I wish you all the best in the coming new year! Mongers for life!

You may want to set up a hotmail account (now called live. Com) for the chica you want to text. After the account is set up, sign into msn messenger with the new account, click tools, then options, then click phone, then click mobile settings and a new page will open where you can register the phone number to receive messages from msn messenger.
But you will already have to be on some sort of data plan no?
Plus wouldn't you be on roaming?

Dam girl emailed me the other day asking if I could send her $500 US to fix her SUV. I was shocked, felt like I had a Credit Card bill.
My wingman almost had a heart attack when I showed him the email. Someone out there is her WU king or kings since she was dressed to kill like those girls in Miami. You know the type that want $2000 US to $3000 US a night.
Wow that $2000 is my whole trip for a week sometimes now that I think about it.
For those that are wondering I called her up and pull the Tiger Woods quote for those who have following his story. "How could you ask me for money I thought you were my friend" LOLOLOLOLOL
And by the way if any of you are interested in paying my cat bill for me I would appreciate it. She's not a Sosua chica .....she can be found in Santiago in the Casino at the Hodelpa Gran Almirante Hotel & Casino.
Thank you for your help in this time of need.

There seems to be a problem right now with that area code (829). The Person that you know with the number has to a get it change. I know 2 chicas with that area code and they had to get the numbers changed. You either get a busy signal, or a message saying it's not in service.
Thanks, I was beginning to think I was the only one with this problem. When in the DR I have no problem with text messages only when I am in the states do I have problems.
Just curious, is it a problem with Orange or a problem with all 829 numbers?

I have a problem texting Claro #'s. The recipients tell me the get blank messages all the time. Orange numbers no problem for texting. But the cell service lately has been real spotty.
If you want to text a claro number for free use this link (anyone can use it).
http://www.claro.com.do/uno/sms/sms.html.
Orange has a similar function but you have to be a customer.

I see a magnitude 7.0 earthquake hit Haiti, centered near the city of Port-au-Prince today.
I certainly feel for those in Haiti, but my exposure to the island of Hispaniola is the DR only.
Does anyone have any knowledge of any effect to the DR?
Thanks in advance for any info.

I chatted with a girl from Santiago and she said that the people went out to the streets screaming but there were no damage, it was felt more in the north part of the country, BQ Ribs which is in Santo Domingo though he was having a shaking orgasm when he was with a chica but it was the bed that moved for a few seconds.
It was felt on a 3.4 intensity in the DR, it caused the Santo Domingo metro to stop functioning and blackouts in parts of the city.
I talked to a ladyfriend that was in the metro at the time of the earthquake, the train was suddenly stopped and people was evacuated in a hurry and without explanation.

Hi all,
I've got a 2 week vacation next month to DR and I'm torn between staying in SD and or BC or getting a bus up to Sosua, when I land in Santo Domingo airport - of course I will stay at least a day or 2 in SD first. On the basis I'm just here to enjoy the ladies and on a budget, where do I go to get the best bang for my bucks? And which is best value when it comes to hotels/apartments?
Sorry if this question has been asked before. I have looked through previous posts but I still can't determine where's best for me. I'm a frequent visitor to Thailand and comparing say Pattaya to Phuket for everything, Pattaya comes out cheapest as it's awash with women and hotels, so it's much more of a buyers market. Can you make similar distinctions in DR?

If you like Pattaya, you´ll like Sosua.
Santo Domingo has chica friendly hotels starting at 40 dollars per night. Probably similar prices for chica friendly hotels can be found in Boca Chica, Puerto Plata and Sosua. There are places where you can stay starting at 25 dollars, but those rooms are usually without air conditioning.
Numerous casas in Santo Domingo, prices from 1500 pesos and up. One other guy on this board has posted that it is possible to get streetwalkers in Santo Domingo for 500 pesos and have sex in the car while parked in a parking lot. Most street walkers in Santo Domingo will request 1000 pesos and up.
Prices are set at Blackbeards in Puerto Plata, I believe 1500 pesos short time. I am not sure what the prices are at Field of Dreams.
Sosua prices vary. Some guys get chicas in Sosua for 1000 pesos. Some Sosua chicas ask for 2000 pesos and up.
In Sosua you will not really need a car or taxi (unless you want to venture to another town).
If you want to venture to the different venues in Santo Domingo you will need to take taxis. In Santo Domingo some venues and street walkers are located close to the malecon and avenida independencia within walking distance of several budget chica friendly hotels.
There are not necessarily different types of chicas in the different towns/cities. Chicas from Santo Domingo and other towns travel to Puerto Plata and Sosua to make money.
Probably most logical path to take if you have to fly into santo domingo (sdq). From SDQ Airport go to Boca Chica for one night or two nights, then go to Santo Domingo for one or two nights, then Puerto Plata (blackbeards then field of dreams), then Sosua. Whatever place you like the best you can travel back to until your vacation is over. You have two weeks, plenty of time to explore.
Also depends what type of chicas you prefer, generally more Haitian chicas can be found in Sosua.
Do you speak Spanish?

Not really.
Pattaya has some infrastructure with regards to food, malls etc not to mention friendly bars, bargirls,go go places.
Sosua on the other hand has none of these. There are only few bars which gets hopping by 10 pm. Ofcourse there are streetwalkers all times of the day just like pattaya if that is your thing.
Pattaya has excellent public transport system, good beaches and sightseeing like going to islands etc.
In Sosua you need to rent a car if you are going to be travelling around. Catching a taxi all the time is the same price as renting a car.
I found girls in Pattaya are much more friendlier and GFE than Sosua.
Sosua is a very small place , you can probably tour the entire place walking within an hour. And ofcourse you have to like Black girls or bordering on black. only sometimes you can get columbian looking white girls if they happened to be from La vega, Santiago etc.
Only thing is since Sosua is only couple of hours flight from east coast you could be hammering away within a short time and there is no jetlag to speak of. Sosua can be a weekend fun destination.
For Pattaya and Thailand in general you need min 2 weeks to enjoy.

Go directly to Sosua!
arrived sdq noon thursday 23rd. after getting luggage they have this long runway with people on both sides waiting. its the closest i'll get to being a celebrity. at the end of the runway i saw a guy holding an advertisement for gogo taxi. my stupid ass smiled thinking someone sent a taxi for me. the problem with that is no one knew when i was coming. passed gogo taxi and negoitiated a 35 dollar cab ride to palacio. i tried to write directions down, ocean on left, past naval academy. then he went thru this maze of one way, over the hill, do a you-turn streets. arrive palacio 1pm. great hotel, nice owner, courteous employees but the ancient desighn combined with modern technology is amazing. well worth 62 per night. went to el conde then the park to people watch. (damn i'm writing this as i travel metro sd-sos and all these fine chicks just got off in santiago, it looked like a fashion show leaving)anyway left the park and got a call from jaosousa. hooked up with him and he gave me the tour. stopped at 360, gdp, la prada, lapus etc. club 360 had ten girls mostly 7-9 in looks. cuba libre was 150 pesos, girls had great attitude and the owner was helpful. girls were quoting me 3000pesos tln, jazmine was my favorite she kept wearing my sunglasses and looked like j-lo. jaososua kept entertaining the girls with his latin dancing. we left 360 and went to gdp. six girls dressed in hula hula outfits. all were fine but it was an ok looking one playing the back. claudia, 6 feet in heels light skinned, great body but the lips seemed to mesmerize me. presidente beer was 100 pesos, claudia quoted me 5 mil pesos tln(what)then dropped to 4mil (what). jaosousa and i stayed an hour danced, drank and enjoyed the eye candy. then we went to eat and back to 360 for a refill. j and i hooked up with a couple new york boys and went to a club. it had a 300 pesos cover and it was packed. i asked a waitress where the ladies bathroom was, and she looked at me crazy and pointed left. see if the club is packed i post up outside the female rest room because they have to [CodeWord140] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord140), i see them coming and going. jaososua had a girl coming to meet him at the club, so this was my chance to street hunt around the jaragua casino limits. being a sosua veteran 3mil is not even in my vocabullary. my last sd trip i got a street walker with teachers glasses at 1am for 1500 pesos. i caught a cab to the girls house but fuck that place. i had a dead fish from there two years ago. walked past gh and hung a left at the corner. a fat chick walked up, smiled and introduced herself. her fat ass wanted 3mil on the streets. i walked another 200 yards and i couldn't believe my eyes. it was the teacher girl from two years ago. i asked her to stick out her tongue (she has a 6 inch tongue)and that verified it was her. she wanted 3mil tln so we exchanged numbers so she could be an option later. i walked another 1oo yard and i see a siloute in the darkness of this long haired beautiful from the back. when i get 10 feet from her she turns toward me and its a dude. i stumble as i change directions quickly. i go to la prada now this is where the night gets good. no cover, cuba libres 259 pesos, and girls everywhere. shit they even had a stripper pole that the girls were working hard. i started tipping the girls 100 pesos notes each. next thing i know i'm getting a double lap dance. i started buying them drinks and they said the price dropped to 3mil after midnight. so i went back to the streets and unknowingly walked right into lapus. i see three chicks dancing on the stage so i sit down. suddenly 7 chicks surround me, i say"estoy tranquillo"and all the sudden i got 14 titties in my vecinity. talking about being speechless. i pick maria, she says 3mil, then the dj says its 1am and they are closing. i'm ready to make a final counter offer when all the girls run in the back like they have a curfew. i leave lapus realizing i just struck out in santo domingo. so i called my teacher glasses girl, no answer. i quickly hop a cab to gdp, claudia is gone but she has other girls for 3-4 mil. at this point i'm like"fuck santo domingo"i'm going to catch the 7am metro for sosua. don't get me wrong i'm no cheepo, but over paying doesn't guarantee great service. i've had 1000 pesos girls that fuck me night and morning very well and i give 2500 for a job well done but la capital got game.
part 2 in sosua thread
got to sosua friday. coconut palms resort offered me a deal. it was 70 dollars for a week, but you have to hear the sales pitch. nice resort adequate rooms, decent food and private beach. went to classicos friday night it was half full, el flow was packed as usual, but i settled on latinos because the had the ny vstpa baseball game on tv. trying to figure out if i want something new or a regular. settled on a regular because i didn't need any drama at the resort. told maria from cabarette to meet me at the sosua taxi stand in two hours. while i'm watching the game something strange was going on. this skinny white dude in dress shirt and shorts keeps circling latinos looking spaced out. after 15 laps in ten minutes, i ask the waitress whats up with him. she said a girl from santo domingo came up and the next morning he was like that. they said she put the heebyjeebys on him. well back to the game ny kicked tampa's ass. picked maria up and we went home. when she saw this nice ass resort with a nice pool, she instantly says lets fuck in the pool. i'm not getting kicked out the first night. maria is a cold freak and can fuck anywhere and never says no. so i like to play the i don't want no pussy role, because it turns me on having her seduce me. we fucked on the couch, in the mirror, then on the bed. the bed kept banging the wall, i expected to hear security knocking at my door, but it never happened. hit it in the morning, then she said she wanted the breakfast buffet downstairs. fuck that! this is a respectable resort, stealth is the key word i use. we have to get her cedula so we avoid the pool area and restaurant. i drop her in cabarette give her 2000 pesos and tell her i have mucho negocio hoy (biz today). later that day saturday i meet two dudes at the resort bar. they want to go to sosua for the first time. i call my number one puerto plata chick and tell her meet me at classicos at 11pm. at 12; 30 the two resort guys were ready to leave, so all six of us pile into the suv. we drink in my room then they break to their rooms. now here's the bad part my girl has to be at player dorado for work at 9am at 7am we go to get her cedula, and they gave it to a girl who didn't even look like her (what)on top of this the barney fife security agency (dominican security) says no chicas can have their cedulas until this girl is found. so every girl that turned in cedulas had to leave without id. i say to them if she got the wrong cedula, her cedula is here. go down sosua and find her but colonel shultz (security) says no. after 8 hours the girl realized she had the wrong cedula and returned it. but i wasn't in the clear yet. they said if i didn't bring the girl in they wouldve never gave out the wrong cedula. i was handed 70 dollars and told our arrangment wasnt working. i couldve challenged it but with security against me any kind of bullshit can happen. so back to europa, dominoe bar, 4 roses, classicos, latinos and the el pollo man. i've wrote in previous reports about my goings on in these places so i'll spare you. but thursday it's boca chica.
never catch the 1:20 metro out of sosua on friday, we didn't arrive until 7pm. teamed up with 2 florida guys going to sdq to share a taxi. checked into this great beach front hotel, which i can't name because i have to protect the employees (much on this later). at 9pm went to the so-called strip. it was basically a two block street with tables. one thing cool is, as you sit at these tables the girls walk back and forth in the middle of the street like a fashion show. picked a light skinned cutie, yolanda. she had a pretty face, no ass, and was skinny as shit. she hugged every girl that was there and had a great attitude. i bought her two cervesa's (100 pesos each)she kept staying at her 3mil tln price. i said it was still early and estoy tranquillo (just chillin). then the trick asks for a propina, for talking? i say no mas deniro, and she gets up and moves 5 tables over. she sits down with a dude and starts rubbing his back. damn, she changed gears in 3 minutes. boca chica girls want the money now, fuck having patience. my conceited ass feels hurt because she could forget me so fast, so i call over this chick thats not grouped up (sola). her name is cymthia, red glasses, slim body, nice smile. she says she is no puta but will give me a massage and a little freakyfreaky (punta light)for 2 mil tln. it's 11:30 and i tell her mas tarde and go in ambaradan disco. this was the spot, chicas everywhere, good music. after an hour there i go outside for air. i sat at a table with a dreadlocked dude from ny. i look over my shoulder and 2 tables down is cynthia sitting alone. i call her over for a drink. being it was late she said she couldn't go to sd empty handed because her baby needed food. she said 1mil for tln, now i'm thinking whats wrong with her but i got plenty of condoms. as we get into the shower her inch long nipples make spike stand at attention. we get in bed and she gives me one of the best bjs ever. she did it slow with her lips not missing a spot. none of that show off fancy blow jobs here. she was making love with her lips. after bj did cowgirl mish, and doggie. hit it in the morning gave her 2500 pesos for a job well done and we exchanged numbers. spent the day at la playa. boca chica beach is beautiful but i wouldn't get in the water. the beach had fun family feel to it, with a few working girls plying their trade. that night same sceen on the strip, but i was looking for cynthia. my pride won't let me call her first so i retire solo. the hotel has this petite, light skinned, dominican maid. i saw her cleaning the room across from mine and smiled, she smiled back. i folded a 50 dollar us bill the long way and placed it on the dresser. we she came to clean my room i told her to come in and i shut the door. after i closed the door my eyes darted between her and the 50 on the dresser. i smiled and she went over got the 50 and started to unbutton her blouse. i locked the door and followed my out stretched arms like a blind man, straight to her tits. she reached under her maid outfit to remove her panties. then i remember i used all my condoms on cynthia, fucking was out. i popped spike out and she started sucking real fast. after i moaned and tensed she jacked me off into her hand (why make a mess she figured). she went to wash her hands, i washed spike and left. we never said a word and it took 15 minutes.
spent the day at the beach. i fly out later.

I like Sosua much better than Boca Chica. In Bc after a few days you see the same girls over and over. Sosua has a much better selection.
I wish Spirit would fly to POP.

Sorry, referring to girls and ambience, not infrastructure. Sosua is more similar to Pattaya than any other place I´ve been, in that the great majority of females one meets are there for P4P.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I've made up my mind to go to Sosua, although as I'm flying out of SDQ I'll spend a day or 2 either side in SD/BC.
This doesn't actually belong here but I wanted to share:
Just got back to work from a nice visit to DR. I rarely work late but I needed to catch up on a few things. When around 7PM the cleaning crew shows up, and it's like I'm back in DR. The whole staff is dominican and the girl that is assigned to my area is a 30 year old hottie. She's been here 3 years and doesn't speak a bit of english (gotta love it).
I've got a date with her Saturday night I will post pictures and report to follow.

La Parada is 2500 so a "drop" to 3000 is really a raise. Apparently there are places that charges a premium to USA people. Interesting report GoGo.
Flew in on Spirit Airlines from Fort Lauderdale, cheap seats but thats okay for the 1:45 flight. Had a bit of a surprise at the airport when I had to pay $10 arrival tax. Shouldn't that be part of the ticket-extras costs? Changed money at the airport 1$ = 31. 7 pesos. There are better rates downtown but that was enough to get me started. I found the best rate was $1 = 36 pesos at the cambio in the Atlantis casino attached to the Intercontinental. Pesos are handy but dollars work too at most places. The exchange rate varies a lot if you pay with dollars. The restaurant at Conde in the Zona Colonial only gave me 1$ = 29 pesos, a rip-off. Speaking of rip-offs, $40 for a taxi ride into Santo Domingo is crazy. Not much wiggle room there either. In hindsight I should have shared a taxi with a French guy at the taxi stand who was also going into town but to a different hotel.
I didn't have a reservation but just showed up at the Hotel Jaguar and they had a room for $55 with a king bed and a connection to the internet. So I took that but moved on the next night. Jaguar is comfortable and the staff are friendly but the 2 block walk off the main street scared me a bit after dark so I moved on. Stayed in the Razior the next night. Have to say the Jaguar was more comfortable but the location for Razior on Av Indepencia was better. Mucho street walkers on Av Indepencia. Price at Razior was $58. Razior isn't as comfortable as Jaguar. The beds are smaller and harder, the elevator works sometimes, and internet is only available in the lobby. Tomorrow I'll try somewhere else.
I went wandering the first night and bumped into Rafere, a 'tour guide'. He just kind of attached himself to this wandering gringo. I was dumb enough to let him attach as I wandered around. When I got around to asking him what he was doing he told me he was a 'tour guide' and asked for a tip. I gave him some loose pesos and told him I wanted to wander without a guide. Nice friendly guy but didn't really want him to guide me around.
I eventually wandered into La Parada and found an unresistable Dominicana. 3000 take-out payable at the bar. Had to do it and no regrets other than the 3000. I think there is more pussy available for less. I had some offers on the street for 1500 and even a quick blow job for 700, but you never know what you are getting on the street. Maybe later. In La Parada I got to sample the goods before making the commitment and she smelled sweet, so. You know. And it was good.
Day 2. Went walking to catch some local color and ended up in Zona Colonial. The cathedral is impressive and I enjoyed seeing the 500 years old stoneworks around the Zona Colonial. Walked down Conde but it was all artwork and souvenir shops. Not much eye candy in the middle of the day. Stopped for a Presidente at the restaurant at Hotel Conde, that's where I got ripped on the exchange rate. Walked back along the waterfront road (Malecon?). All the garbage in the water, along the shore, everywhere, and with the smell, left an impression I won't forget. But it is what it is.
The horns came out after dark and I tried a streetwalker. This was preceded with a bottle of Brugal & coke so I was up for anything. Ended up paying 1500 instead of the 1000 she quoted but that was for the pussy add-on instead of just a BJ. My negotiating skills are weak and I bought the sob story. No regrets though. It was half the price of the night before and an adventure.
So ended Day 2.
Day 3. Decided to move on again since I had seen everything I wanted to see in Santo Domingo. Caught the bus to Boca Chica about noon on Day 3. This internet thing is great and thanks to all the contributors I was able to figure out how to get to Boca Chica on the bus. A taxi took me to the Parada de Autobus for 250 and I boarded a fully crowded mini-bus. It left about 15 minutes later and took about 30 minutes to get to Boca Chica. Numerous stops on the outskirts of Boca Chica to let small groups off the bus but eventually stopped by the beach at the west end of Boca Chica. Cost was 60 pesos paid on the bus to a conductor sort-of guy. I had read good things about Hotel Zapata and it was close to the bus stop so I tried there first. I was quoted $65/night plus $5 for internet access. The hotel looks nice, the room was so-so. Kept looking and saw Hotel Coco Playa next, also on the beach. It was $50/night with free internet in the bar area so I took that. The room looked about the same as Zapata. This is as far as I have come on Day 3 so far. I am writing this as I sit in the bar area, an open air bar right on the beach with good people-watching attractions. The bartender girls look cute. Maybe later.
Walked around the town to explore and found some other hotels. El Candil looked good and quoted me $55 so I'll move on Day 4. Coco Playa didn't have hot water in the room! Lots of money-changing places in BC and good rates: 1$ = 36 pesos. Night life was interesting, I was stalked by several putas. Unfortunately too much Brugal rum interfered with my performance. I tried anyway and took one back to the room for 1000. She got pissed off when she couldn't make me cum (professional pride?) and left after an hour or so. That's okay, I pretty much passed out after that. I'm writing this on the morning of Day 4, my last day in DR, and that's it for now. More later.
Day 4. Wandered all over Boca Chica and soaked up the culture differences. In between walks I sat by the pool at El Candil with a Presidente and a book. At the hotel I saw some white chicks, Europeans I think, who had a big local dude in tow. I think they were on a sex vacation too, and why not. If its good for the gander it should be okay for the goose too. Some girl once told me that 'once you go black you never go back'. As it started to get dark I headed down to Duarte to see the sights. Ran into a compatriot and had a good chat. A local set her sights on me and I was happy to go along. Ended up back at the Candil with her. Had to check in to get the key and she turned in her cedula. No problem from the staff. I like El Candil. Good value and chica friendly. Internet works in my room on ground level near the office.
End of Day 4 and end of my report. I fly home tomorrow.

For details, i refer you my horrible experiences that are ''detailed'' on DR1
For details, i refer you my horrible experiences that are ''detailed'' on DR1Good to know. I always rent from alamo (national is the sister company to alamo). In Puerto Plata airport I was friendly with one chica at alamo and I would give her small gifts, sometimes they gave me a free upgrade.
My last two trips to Santo Domingo, alamo has given me a free upgrade on the car. Price difference is about 70 dollars. I tip the guys or give them a small gift.
Avis tried to overcharge me twice, so I never use them.
Hertz appears to have mostly FIAT cars, so I don't know how they are.
I am driving around in a nissan tiida, good little car, I had reserved the cheaper chevrolet aveo and they gave me the nissan for the same price.
500 pesos moves the gas tank needle about 1/4 of a tank.

Does anyone know of any university’s/education centers that are close enough to monger locations yet isolated enough to where the students or school officials would not notice. My employer will pay for me to take two weeks for exploratory set up and then it would be a summer program every year after that. This seems like a great opportunity to combine both work and pleasure while my trip cost and stay would be paid for by my employer. Any information on education centers in Santiago or the north around Sousa would be greatly appreciated.

ChrisThere is a big expensive catholic university in Santiago, something like P.U.C.M., there are other universities in santiago as well.

The Pucamayma as they call the Pontificia Universidad CAtolica MAdre Y MAestra (I put in caps the letters that form the Pucamayma nick) or P.U.C.M. is your best bet in my opinion. It is the largest most well know university. You can stay in la Zurza area which has the university main entrance to its east and the monument area and its bars/restaurants to the North. There you are a 1 hr or 1 hr and something away from Puerto PlaTa Sosua Area via nice buses rides and 2 hr away from Santo Domingo which is always worth a visit.

PUCMM is an excellent school and only an 1-1/2 hours away from Sosua, but if your spanish is not great and you want a to monger a little closer to a tourist mongering area, then I would suggest UTESA in Puerto Plata, which will put you 20-25 minutes away from Sosua. You can also pick their other campuses in the Capital, which will put you about 30 minutes from Boca Chica.

I passed that PUCMM Sunday night while driving to the capital. It's much farther than 1.5 hours from Sosua though. It was about an hour south of Santiago on the left hand side driving down DR1. ***Not claiming to be an expert on DR schools or their locations; just saying where I haphazardly saw it. This may be one of many locations.***
I thought the big University in Santiago is between the Monument and the Airport a few blocks South of PLaza International .If it isn't I will be sniffing around the wrong place in 2 weeks.

Good to know. I always rent from alamo (national is the sister company to alamo). My last two trips to Santo Domingo, alamo has given me a free upgrade on the car. Price difference is about 70 dollars. I tip the guys or give them a small gift. I am driving around in a nissan tiida, good little car, I had reserved the cheaper chevrolet aveo and they gave me the nissan for the same price. 500 pesos moves the gas tank needle about 1/4 of a tank.
That is why I never upgrade. Upgrading means more gas. While 500 only moved your needle 1/4, 1030 pesos filled my Kia up from 0! I used Budget this time. $1000 deposit if you do not get their insurance. I rented from POP and turned it in in SDQ. $100 fee for returning it to that location. Last time I used National and the fee was $90. This time they didn't have any cars available though. When I turned my car in the girl at Budget xeroxed my credit card. Needless to say I had a fit about that.

The main santiago campus is located near the monument with the main entrance on Estrella Sadhala. Going to Sosua from PUCMM is accessible from three different routes.
1. Take Estrella Sadhala north torwards navarete and connecting to the route heading to Puerto Plata.(do a search on the Santiago thread for specific directions)
2. On Estrella Sadhala make a right on Papa Duarte heading towards Licey, into Moca and take the Moca Route towards Sabaneta de Yasica.
3. On Estrella Sadhala make a right on Bartolome Colon which will lead you onto the Turistica or Mountain Road which will put you right down the road from Montellano. Oh yeah right before the Turistica entrance is the mechanic shop for one of the Santiago ATV crew, bunch of good guys, its fun riding with them. They sometime have ATVs for sale, fyi.
I'll state it again, it's about 1 1/2 from PUCMM to Sosua, of course depending on traffic. The Puerto Plata route is of course the longest but is probably the safest.
Here's a map.

I haven't paid a more than 20 bucks to drop off at different airport POP or STI. I have rented from all of them but the best is Adventurer rent a car its 30 bucks day cash with full coverage unlimited miles mid size car and a very good one. Good luck if you think your Visa or Mastercard covers your rental car if you get in an accident. Your card will be charged in full and you will have to deal with it when you get home. Needless to say the DR doesn't cooperate much with accident reports when Visa calls.

A propina (small tip) to the police officer(s) always helps expedite things. Most of the police stations I have been in are not very modern, I seen the police there, write reports on scrap, ripped pieces of paper.

On this webpage the cheapest price they have is 35 dollars and does not include tax(7x35=245 plus tax for a week). You got a better rate by renting in person. Problem for me is that they don't have an office in the airport in Santo Domingo, I am sure they send someone to the airport to pick you up and then drive to another location to get the car and do the paperwork.
Thanks for the info.
Its up to 15 percent discount you pay in cash @ http://www.adventurerentcar.com/
The cars are with full coverage insurance.

I was paying lot more for rental cars not even as nice cause I don't own credit card so always needed to pay extra for full liability insurance.
Actually someone PMed me on different board about this place and I thanked him when I got home.
Dear Moderator: For relevance purposes and the references I have made to the Thai baht, I have posted this first part to my report in both the Thailand and DR forums.
Dominican Republic. Is it really like Thailand?
Part 1
Getting to know a particular place well over the years has its advantages. From the moment you touch down and those jet engines roar into reverse thrust ‘Announcing I have at last arrived’ the rest just gets easier after each trip.
Like how to beat those long, long lines at passport control; where and where not to change money, which taxi (or if you are very clever) which just-as-quick bus to use.
You get to know where to stay and what times of year not to bother even trying for a lower price, first choice then second choice (and failing that there is always plan B); you get to know the best areas and bars to go to and above all, just as if it was your own business, you know all the prices and the current going rate for Lt p4p, Short time etc, etc like the back of your hand.
The other main advantage with being so familiar with a particular place is the fact that you can probably fit in more in a week than you normally would in two weeks, or more, with all the screw ups and nonstarters and culture shock which goes with traveling to any faraway foreign country for the first time. With all this in mind only a week away anywhere in the world can be good value. That is, until the inevitable happens and that same ‘old’ familiar place starts to turn into that same ‘old boring place.’
I wouldn’t call Thailand a boring place exactly, but having got to know the country and a bit of the language even, over the years, (for that read a lot), where else in the world are you going to get that same sun, sea and sand; city life if I wanted it and beach resorts (with more than just a few shacks or one or two expensive hotels for night time entertainment) together with the same sort of girlfriend experience and value for money which in the whole of SE Asia, in my opinion, only Thailand truly delivers by ticking all the right boxes.
During those good times of course the Dominican Republic as a possible alternative never really crossed my mind.
So going back to basics and really needing a change I started to read up on this alleged Caribbean island of paradise and indeed found some similarities with the land of smiles.
Like, providing you get it right, with stopovers from the UK the flight time is about the same 14 to 15 hours. The return airfare is about the same price too but with some subtle differences like indirect flights to the DR tend to be about the same price range as the direct flights to Bangkok; and quicker direct flights to the DR from the UK tend to be around the same price range as indirect flights to Thailand. Seems a bid odd I know but those cheaper direct flights to the DR tend to be operated by the charter type package holiday airlines with less leg room that go only about 1or 2 times a week max, and most fly into airports on the island which to put it mildly are not convenient. But more about that later.
Other similarities include the same rainy low season months, especially from July onwards (which in the DR is the Hurricane season) which technically makes it the low season with lower prices.
But at anytime of the year good clean girl friendly hotels or an apartment with A/c, wi fi, nice restaurant, bar and pool starts from $40.00US (but pushing it a bit) to up to around $50 to $55.00US per night on average. Beware though of the so called mainly luxury all inclusive child-free adult beach resorts which in the DR are far from ‘adult’ for the only thing they do actually ban are ‘hookers’ or overnight guests.
So comparing the Dominican pesos prices with the Thai baht using XE.com as a guide:
A few hours back at your hotel with a decent freelancer for massage and at least a BL and BJ 1,500 pesos (1,400 Thai baht)
Normal full body massage at a proper massage place 800 pesos (730 Thai baht)
Massage with hand relief at a proper massage place 1,300 pesos (1,200 Thai baht)
All night (or all day) full sex from 2,000 pesos or really pushing the boat out 3,000 pesos (1,800 -2,700 Thai baht)
Private dance in a top strip club 500 pesos (460 Thai baht - but this would usually be free in Thailand in a definitely free to enter Go-go bar.
‘Salida’ Exit fee (bar fine to Thailand mongerers) 300 pesos (275 Thai baht) slightly lower than in Thailand.
Even drinks in the girly bars seemed to be around the same price.
Local Predidente beer for 100 pesos (around 90 Thai baht. The local Sigha beer in any Thai Go-go bar averages at 95 baht ).
Large strong rum and coke 150 pesos (140 baht).
So far so good. Wink
More facts:
Actually being bigger than Switzerland, the DR is not a small country and just like Thailand where getting a girl can be as easy as shooting a fish in a barrel full of fishes, not every area in the DR, just like in Thailand, is good for mongering. The difference with Thailand though is that there are only two International airports that you would normally fly into - Bangkok or Phuket and arriving at either you won’t go wrong. In the DR there are around 7 International airports currently in full time use spread around the island which depending on the time of day or night you arrive, could leave you stranded and seriously out of pocket if you are doing the trip on your own and have to arrange your own taxi transfers. I read the taxi drivers union is strong in the DR and any of the reliable to often unreliable buses will not go anywhere near the airports. To me that looks like big taxi $$Dollar Signs.
So where are the best mongering places to go?
If we are taking not first division but the ‘Premier Super league’ there are only two areas and only two airports to head for in the DR:
The Puerto Plato, Sosua and Cabarete areas in the north of the island served by (POP) Gregorio Luperón International Airport no more than $20 to $25US and 11 miles or 20 minutes away by taxi.
The Capital Santo Domingo and the nearby beach resort of Boca Chica in the south of the island served by (SDQ) Las Americas International Airport no more than $25 to $30US and up to 30 minutes away by taxi for the 12 miles or so journey.
As a ‘not ideal’ ‘‘plan B’’ or last chance saloon as far as booking cheap flights on the internet, I noticed one alternative for each of these airports.
For the north of the island (STI) Cibao International airport serving the large inland city of Santiago around 35 miles by slow roads from Puerto Plata; or for the south of the island (LRM) La Romana international airport around 50 miles from the resort of Boca chica and 70 miles (90 minutes by taxi) from Santo Domingo. (I thought I’ll pass on that one.)
Making the booking (flight only):
Living in a big city and really longing for a bit of sun, sea and sand, my first choice for a hassle free trip was the Puerto Plata/Sosua area in the north of the island. For Boca Chica in the south I had read mixed reviews. Apparently, due to this famous or now infamous tourist beach resort going over the top a bit, with the kind of negative publicity the people in power did not want, there was a recent clampdown, big time, and as a result Boca Chica if I had read it correctly has started to go downhill.
The only reasonably flight I could find to POP was disappointingly unavailable by the time I went back to book it. Lesson learnt here; grab it while it’s there for this one-off charter baby was only £278.00 return, be it at the last minute.
So back to the drawing board again and there were two final options,
a 14.5 hour flight on US Airways via Philadelphia arriving (at my second choice) SDQ at 22:30 for £515 return, or the devil I knew, 11 hour direct flight on Thai Airways to Bangkok arriving early in the morning for £562 return, something I could do again with my eyes closed. Decisions, decisions.
I did it. I pressed that no point of return credit card booking icon on the computer screen and waited. The US Airways confirmed booking reference and flight itinerary looked quite sweet when I printed it off.

Just like you I have been to Thailand before (only once though :( ) and will land in the DR for the first time next week.
Looking forward to your report with more comparisons, as I humbly think that the only drawback of the otherwise very informative DR forum is that it lacks a bit in mongers who have travelled to places other than the DR.
Good luck and have a good time!

RyoI haven't been to Thailnd since my Navy days but would love to return. What stops most mongerers is that long ass plane ride. Thai girls are very submissive and loyal. Petite and beautiful. If thailnd was next to the DR it would be full of gringos.
You will have fun. If you have any questions feel free to ask. You definitely read the forums, you read them very well, you are very informed.
I agree with you, the more you travel to a place the easier it gets.
Having a rental car for about a week costs about 220 US dollars. With a car you can go where you want, when you want to. Alamo/National rent a car company is open 24 hours in the SDQ airport. Driving for the first time in the Dominican Republic you will get lost, but people are very friendly about giving directions. If you decide to drive, the laminated Dominican Republic Map by Borch is good to have, costs about 11 US dollars and you can probably buy it online. If you do drive always try to have small loose change in the car or 100 peso bills (there are some toll roads and kids on the street will wash the windshield of the car, good to have small change that you can give them).
If you want some Dominican pesos when you first enter the country, there are ATM machines inside the airport, near the exit and the Bon ice cream shop. Otherwise best to change money at Frank's on El Conde in the zona colonial, which is about a 10 to 15 minute walk from Hotel Riazor. DON'T CHANGE MONEY ON THE STREET, they will try to scam you.
You can buy a cell local phone there for about 495 pesos (15 US dollars) or take a cell phone you no longer use and you may be able to have it unlocked and programmed to work in the dom rep.
With a car you can easily drive to Juan Dolio for the beach or drive north about two hours to see La Vega, Costanza, Jarabacoa or Santiago (more mountainous with rivers, no beaches). Or you can continue to drive north and visit Puerto Plata and sosua.
If you stay at riazor, mystik or jaguar, you will be close to the action, coppa discoteca is open late every night. Other bars close around 1am on weeknights.
Boca Chica was seedy many years ago and has not gotten better. Juan Dolio is the next beach town going east, 15 minutes from Boca Chica. Boca Chica is not terrible, the beach is fine in the daytime. There are just some undesirable types in boca chica, that make it not so appealing at night. There is more money invested in Juan Dolio, with some wealthier Dominicans who live in Santo Domingo, who go to Juan Dolio for the weekend. During the week, juan dolo is tranquil. There are mongering opportunities in Juan Dolio, golf and the beach.
Plenty of casas in Santo Domingo as well as freelancers on the streets at night and in the casinos.
I live on the east coast of the United States, Dom Rep is a 3 1/2 hour trip, much easier for us.
Sawadee Ka, I have thai friends in Thailand, I just have not traveled there yet, long flight.

Jaosousa & everyone else thanks for the feedback.
Personally I do not want the reponsibilty of renting a car. But stiil for anyone interested in crossing the island, the money alone you would save in taxi fares is definetly worth considering.
Yeah Juan Dolia looks like it could be the new 'In place to go' but possibly with a little more business investment. Perfect convenient location though about half way between SDQ and La Romana Airports.

Yeah Juan Dolia looks like it could be the new 'In place to go' but possibly with a little more business investment. Perfect convenient location though about half way between SDQ and La Romana Airports.Juan Dolio is about 45 minutes from Santo Domingo airport, once you get past Boca Chica the highway has less traffic and after boca chica it is a very easy drive. Juan Dolio has two gated communities, Metro Club and Guavaberry, which have private security, golf courses and expensive private homes. The main road in Juan Dolio is called Boulevard and is well lit at night with street lamps. There are several newer condominium buildings on the beach in Juan Dolio, with more buildings being built there.
Juan Dolio to La Romana airport would be about a two hour drive. If you have to fly into La Romana, Bayahibe is a small beach town 15 minutes from La Romana airport, that has a very nice beach. A chica I know recently hung out at night in Bayahibe and she told me there were a bunch of working girls in the Stars Disco in Bayahibe. There are mongering opportunities in La Romana as well.
Driving times alway depend on traffic and on how fast you want to drive.
I will be in SD in March. Is Casa Australia still open for business? Is it true that the chicas are all college girls? Can you get there cell and hook up with them when CS closes?
There is a suoermarket, McDonalds, and many more stores on Maximo Gomez about a half mile up from thr malceon near the Courtyard. Hoe far past that is the Casa A?
Any chicas speak English?
Thanks for your help in advance.

I will be spending my next trip to DR in Juan Dolio not Sosua, flt's not lookin good. Jaosousa you reported within the last few weeks about a place called, Caribe Paraiso I went to the website and have a resv. For 2/26-3/1. Are there banks, bars, food places near? The pictures you took showed showgirls very close? And one more question how often are you in DR?

Caribe Paraiso is right in the busiest part of Juan Dolio. There is a large colmado right up the block on the side street going to the road called boulevard.
Caribe Paraiso I believe has two buildings. The two story building is directly across the street from showgirls. At least 5 restaurants within 5 minutes of caribe paraiso, near the parking area for the three story building is a popular restaurant, I saw people in that restaurant every night.
Two blocks down from the three story building there is a restaurant called Il Sueno something, they a have billboard. Pizza was inexpensive there and good.
I also ate at some restaurant across from hemingway condominiums, called restaurant espanol, nice place, not cheap, about ten minutes from caribe paraiso. I was with my gf in juan dolio, we bought eggs, milk, coffee, bread etc. at the colmado. We prepared the food in the apartment. The apartment has knives, forks, pots and pans and a little stove top coffee maker, gas stove and large refrigerator.
I used the ATM machine near the coral costa caribe all inclusive hotel.
There are money exchange places on the same street as caribe paraiso. I don't recall seeing banks.
At least 3-4 bars within a two block radius of caribe paraiso. More europeans in juan dolio than Americans.
El caucho is probably one block from showgirls on the Boulevard, el caucho has chicas for p4p. About 5 minutes from el caucho is caprichios another place with p4p chicas.
Any other questions let me know.

Search for my previous posts.I searched, I couldn't find your prior post about juan dolio, if you could give the post number and the thread, thanks.
I was in Juan Dolio about a month and a half ago. Juan Dolio is not Sosua.
For me I like Santo Domingo and when I am in Santo Domingo and I want the beach, I go to Juan Dolio. There are mongering opportunities in Juan Dolio. Prices for a good room in Juan Dolio is not expensive. The beach is good. Seems safe to me, I have driven around in Juan Dolio late at night and never had any problems.
Sosua has a greater concentration of chicas in a small area, than Juan Dolio. In Sosua you can probably get better prices for p4p. However the more attractive chicas in Sosua, most times will not play for a cheap price.
A few years ago I stayed at the Barcelo Capella all inclusive in Juan Dolio. I had a rental car and most nights I drove into Santo Domingo for the night life. I have done the opposite as well, while staying in Santo Domingo, I drove with some chica to Juan Dolio around 1am and drank at the upstairs bar at the Decameron Casino and returned to Santo Domingo around 5am with the chica, fun time with the chica in the bed that night.
Some chica from my last trip told me she wants to have sex on the beach at night in Juan Dolio. My last trip in Juan Dolio appeared some people were getting their groove on in the beach at night.
I have been to Sosua at least 11 times. It is a fun place. Currently I know chicas who live in Santo Domingo and San Pedro de Marcoris, so for me Juan Dolio is fine for the beach and a little different night life.

A few years ago I stayed at the Barcelo Capella all inclusive in Juan Dolio. I had a rental car and most nights I drove into Santo Domingo for the night life. .
I stayed at Capella for 2 nights in 2006 and had sex with 3 guests and other chica that visited me from Santo Domingo. The 3 chicas were sex workers, one of them was a girl I met the year before and I had the happy event to coincide with her in the same place at the same time. She told me some girls like her stay at Capella because is a cheap all inclusive, it cost barely over a hundred per day for 2 persons, a little less for locals and that most time they get their investment back having sex with hotel customers.

On the weekends many all inclusive hotels get an influx of dominicans.
Problem with the capella was when I went to check out on a sunday, all the dominicans were also checking out, I had to stand in line in the non-air conditioned lobby for about an hour to check out. Capella is not a bad hotel, last time I stayed there I had 50 mosquitoes in my room. Price last summer was about 118 per night for two people. Capella is nicer than the Coral Costa Caribe Hotel.
If you stay at some all inclusive hotels try to check out early on a Sunday.

the silly side of me wants to know if customs or anyone has found your secret weapon and what was their reaction?
so how do you work the toy game with the chicas? they don't think its nasty if othr chicas have used the vibrators? or do they just put a condom on it? whats the 411 son!
i always pray that security will open my toy bag in front of everybody but they never do. they will go through everything else but that. i guess they pretty much know from the x-ray. but i do keep astroglide and grape seed oil in the same bag. i keep all kinds of stuff in there. my master sack i keep at home. then i switch in and out of my travel sack as i see fit. i have to travel at the least with my finger vibrator, basic white plain vibrator, metal cock ring, and vibrating cock ring. half of the shit i have at home i don't even use. i don't know why i keep buying more.
i usually start out with the finger vibrator because it is small and they can't see it. so i sneak up on them with it. right then i always get the question, "what is that?" right after that when it starts touching them it's "wow" or something to that effect. then if i'm hitting it from the back or the back door i'll give them the regular vibrator and let them rub it on their clit. they really love that. the problem is that someone always wants to keep it and take it home. and that is like my #1 tool.
when me and my girlfriend from santiago came in from partying in sosua i hit her in the bathroom before we took a shower. then when we got in the bed she was talking about she wanted some more. so i went into my bag and pulled out the regular vibrator and told her to use that. she was hooked and wanted to keep it and now she calls it her friend. after that she still wanted some more so i was forced to oblige even though i was tired as shit.
so for my non-pros i usually go to the store when they have the sales and buy 4 or 5 to give away. the regular price i think is $12, then on sale they are $8. like i'm down in colombia now and i have 2 extras in my suitcase to give away. 1 for one of my colombian girls (still haven't decided which one), then 1 for my second string girl when i get to peru friday.
i always clean them with bleach. the only time i can remember using a condom one-on-one was when my ex-girlfriend (who is married) from the high school days came over a couple of months ago and she was on her period. i didn't even put one on it when i was with that girl and her aunt in sosua. it was their first time even seeing one and had no idea what it was. they were family so i figured what the hell! if they could suck each others' titties and eat each other out, then a condom on a vibrator was probably the least of their worries. they didn't scream, so i didn't holler. sometimes chicks will ask who have i been using it with but i just make up a bunch of names or either tell them to shut up and don't worry about all that.
the only person who has ever had a problem is my number 1 girl in peru. as freaky as she is, she is always skitzy about sex stuff. she just turned 40 the other day and i think i am the only guy she has ever been with besides her ex-husband. so she is always worried, making sure the condom didn't break and going to the doctor later for nothing. but i have her to the point now that we don't even use condoms anymore. a couple of years ago when i first tried to break out my stuff on her she was not having it. so i had to bring her something in an unopened box. and she has been loving it ever since.

Also one of my Sosua girls just moved back to Santo Domingo and since I don't want her to see the hooker side of boca have you tried Juan Dolio as a Santo Domingo getaway?Me myself, I like my non-pro girls to see that I know where the hooker spots are. That way they know if they screw up I have plenty of other options. My girl in Puerto Plata is always enraged that I choose to stay in Sosua and not Puerto P. She is always saying why do you have to stay there with all those hookers. And I like to play dumb and say, "What hookers? Girl you know I like the beach. And besides, here is better than Puerto Plata because I can walk to any place I need to go."
I really don't even like hanging in the south when all the fun I need is up north. But because of the crazy ass flights I have to go down south sometimes. I have never been to Juan Dolio, but my Santiago girl's cousin showed me some pictures she had taken there recently and it looked pretty nice. If I have to go that way again I will definitely bring someone with me and check it out instead of staying in Boca Chica.
I hope you have stock in the sex toys industry, because their stock just went up.I can see the airport screeners going"damn all these dudes got vibrators wtf"
Hi!
I am hoping to tap into the vast well of knowledge and experience here. So without further ado, here are my questions:
1. Has anyone any recent experience with DR Nights (www.Drnights.com)?
And more specifically:
2. I know this is going to sound a bit arrogant but: I am a good looking 190cm Norwegian with no problems getting regular girls. I would do this for a "once in a lifetime" experience. Ie. Two girls that are beautiful, *very* submissive and cater to my every wish (within reason of course). Is this something this place provides?
Thanks for all input!

Thanks for all input!I have been informed by regular Dominican Rep. Sex mongers that this service is too expensive and that you can get the same quality of girls at local discos, shopping malls. Etc. I do not know your personal budget but most mongers will tell you that $1, 000 + us dollars for the 'introduction" is expensive in this 3rd world country. Why pay a 3rd party for chicas that you can get for less. You could use the $1, 000+ and buy 10 chicas at $100 each. Surely you could find some 'freaks" among the 10 chicas. DR Nights recruit the same chicas that you could pick-up on your own so save the dinero.

Places like DR Nights fall outside my budget. However, you should do O.K. at Blackbeard's in Costambar.
Don't worry as long as your RD Pesos are crisp, you will have no problem getting toto in paradise! IMO a place like DR Nights is charging 4X the price for the same chicas you can find elsewhere. What are you looking for, one girl to toss your salad while the other gives you a manicure, no hay problema en la Republica, in fact you can probably even get two sisters to do that while mama cooks pollo guisado in the other room and sings Bachata, for another RD500!
RDNights 2 nights for $1450 is a rediculous price bro, do a little homework and you can have the same package of Pussy, Food, and Condo for $1000 less on your own, I am not exaggerating.

Thanks for all input! If you are a good looking guy that doesn't have problems hooking up why would you want to pay these DRnights people ridiculous prices?
I am old,fat and ugly and I have had threesomes in the DR with girls that did everything possible and then some.
Wow! Thanks for all the input guys, really really appreciate it.
I get that I am paying a premium at a place like DR nights. But the package they offer seems to be worth it: Hassle free "mongering", beachfront, five star service, etc. etc. Again: This would be something I would invest in as a "once in a lifetime" thing and I would be willing to pay for it. I realize that I probably could get the same girls cheaper on my own, but that is only 50% of the deal for me. I also want comfort, pampering and laziness.
I would be interested to hear from someone who has actually been to this place. Searched through the forums but could not find anything.
But again: Thanks a lot guys.

Only fly in the ointment is that in 2 trips and 2 weeks in the DR, I don't think I have ever seen a crisp RD peso note. All of their currency looks like it's been worn over decades and put in a dozen washing machine cycles as well.

But again: Thanks a lot guys.No offense but you will be lucky to find someone on this forum that has been there because once they find this forum they realize what a waste of money it is.
I have been to three similar venues,O2,Vikings,and the Xotic Beach House in Colombia and all three trips were before I found this forum and realized how foolish I was.
One other note,DRNights was shut down for a while by the Dominican government and the owner I think was thrown in jail. I know for a fact that the owner of Vikings is spinning his wheels in a Brazilian jail as we speak, something to think about.

No problem.
We all have to follow our own taste, and what is "right" is what is right for YOU.
(That said, now that you will have a "premium" place experience, try FOD and BB for 2-3 nights each, and compare, then post your impressions).
Buena Suerte

All of their currency looks like it's been worn over decades and put in a dozen washing machine cycles as well.Supposedly lots of counterfeit bills floating around in Dom Rep. A chica showed me a fake low denomination bill, she said it was missing a thin strip than runs through the middle of the bill.
Some of the paper money looks so used and worn out, looks like they are from the time of Cristóbal Colón (Christopher Columbus).
I have had plenty of cashiers (cajeros) hold my bills up and check them, but never have they rejected any of the paper money, I used.
Occasionally the ATM machines will give out brand new bills.
If you are a good looking guy that doesn't have problems hooking up why would you want to pay these DRnights people ridiculous prices?
I am old,fat and ugly and I have had threesomes in the DR with girls that did everything possible and then some.I am older, more fat, and real ugly but dinero makes all things possible. This is fanasty island and the chicas can even provide the dwarf. It is amazing what $100 will buy. I love this shit-hole country. I really do!

Mongers,
Just received an email and phone call from my Dominican chica friend who tells me that the economy in the USA must really suck as she and her amingas are only receiving 3-4 Western union payments per week from all the overseas novios and that each individual amount is down from last year. She asked me if I knew any former tourists/amingos ("suckers") that she could email/call and ask dinero for:
1. Medication for mother/father/children/cousins/brothers/sisters
2. Computer/english classes as she wants a good education (never enrolled)
3. Rent as her cousin, boyfriend, neighbor, pimp stole the rent money.
4. Bus money for univeristy classes $25+ dollars
5. Money for salon for job interview (never worked a day in her life)
The list goes on and on and on and on.
This chica is a professional actress and speaks english almost as good as me.
The chicas get the email address of tourists and soon ask for your cell phone/home number. The chicas have told me they get more dinero if they actually invest in a phone call and then cry real loud with real tears. Their new financial 2010 goal is lower requests but larger number of novios. She told me there is no reason to work if she can receive 3 western unions per week of $25-$50 per request. Her monthly western Union financial goal is $500+ us dollars per month. I am a retired psychologist so she was asking me if this is a good plan. What A Fucking Country!

Funny, I do the same thing when I receive change from the cashiers. The bank tellers do look indignant when I carefully examine their money. :)

I tend to avoid chicas with good English skills, unless she is a student not in one of my classes. Also, I invest in a pay-as-you-go phone for girls that I meet. I only turn it one when hunting or expecting a call or text.
Yes, my undergraduate degree in psychology has nothing on some of these chicas, but the research is most interesting. :)

They lie, they cry, they manipulate and they scam and without any shame.
That is all it is one big scam after another. There are no real feelings behind most of these girls, despite the screams and the tears and the sob stories; At best they are second rate actresses with a real good story; and so my friends we should either become like them (actors out just for the fun of it) or we shouldn't play this game at all, because any feelings unfortunately get in the way.
Think of the DR as a place without laws and without morals (the wild west) and we are just rolling with the punches and the shots that are being thrown at us not knowing what to believe and who to trust, because you cannot believe or trust anyone who you meet; but what you can do is tell better stories and tell bigger lies and be even more convincing than they are (try it); and that is the only way not to get screwed over (yes it is sad, but that is the fact in the DR; leave your true feelings and shame at the Miami airport and pick it up on your way back it has no place in the DR) Its all a big game, a game of poker and the key is to bluff with every hand and bet high, but know for certain you never win, if you are lucky and keep your wits about you then you break even and thats all you get.
Just my opinion.
Some DR chicas are greedier than others. For me the chicas in DR are more fun than the chicas here in the States. Just about every chica in the world expects some kind of a gift from a guy.
For me when some chica starts making demands that I deem too expensive, I drop her.
I am not Brad Pitt so I know that I have to spend some money on the chicas. Relative to what chicas here in the States want and expect as gifts, the DR is much cheaper.
Can be difficult to walk away from a great service beautiful chica, but if she is too greedy, it has to be done.

I hope you don't mind, but I am going to borrow that line. I love it.
And Oh yeah, Dang, I always thought I WAS Brad Pitt when I step foot on DR soil (LOL).
Does anyone know the actual exchange rate right now? Online I'm seeing $36.80, but I know that's not what you are going to get.
