Like Jake, I have found the occassional piece of heaven in an expatriate FSU girl, here at home or elsewhere in my travels. Back in the States now so I had better write something up about Moscow before the “old melon” forgets everything. This was the last stop on a three city tour of Russia after Saint Petersburg and Ufa.

I arranged for an apartment with Moscow-Star and waited for one of the usual drivers to come and pick me up from Vnukovo. It ended up being Oleg with the broken down Volga and we spent the next two hours crawling our way up Leninky Prospect during rush hour to the apartment on Tverskaya Ulitsa. So much for beating the traffic.

It was late so I dropped my bags at the apartment and headed over to TGI Friday’s to meet an old friend for a few pints. It was Tuesday night so nothing too exciting and we wrapped things up by 11:00 PM. I wandered back to the flat to get unpacked and by midnight I had the itch for some entertainment. I decided it was a little too late to call any of the girls I had met on Mamba so I grabbed a gypsy cab down to Hot Dog (formerly Boar House – formerly Chesterfield’s) to see what all of the fuss was about. I suppose the word to use to describe my impression is “underwhelmed”. I need some advice please. I have travelled before to Belarus before and now would like to go to Moscow or Ukraine. The reason I chose moscow first is because I plan to travel around the week of May 20th when champions league final is on and I thought this would be a good time, but after seeing the price increases on tickets and hotels I am not sure. I will be travelling with 2 italian friends. I have passable russian skills so the real question is would the club, shopping malls, university and cafe type approch to Freebies be more suited to moscow or Ukraine?

I realize I did not offer much in the way of positive suggestions.

In 36 years of mongering it pains me to see one of the last great (Or the Best IMHO) location for petite, light skinned women will bend over backward and beyond to please men, go to shit as Amsterdam, Prague, Paris and even the USA in years past have gone.

Beware the Fem Nazi attitude that has ruined the USA and a fair amount of Europe and Eastern Europe for mongering.

A few suggestions;

1st off in Russia men set the rules period.

Escorts and salons- Research the correct price & time. When you call clearly describe what you are looking for. Most agencies are looking for repeat business and if you ask they will do their best to accommodate. Ask the agencies which girls have good attitude and whom they recommend. I have found that the majority of the time they have been quite helpful, once again they want you happy.

It is not complicated to communicate on or get dates off of Mamba (or any of the related sites), however you should consider the following:

1) Without a picture, you'll reduce your chances of response considerably. Most profiles without pictures are simply ignored.

2) Many of the girls will only communicate in Russian, many also will write in English too however. Best to be flexible in using both.

TGIF is "Fridays", there are several of them in Moscow the most popular being the one on Pushkin Square and the one in Atrium shopping center near Kurskaya metro and across the street from Hot Dog aka CF aka Boarhouse.

It is a low-key place that serves American-style food and beer. Popular among 18-25-year old Russians and 30-50 year old expats. I've never picked up anybody there that I recall, but don't go there often.

There are many places to chat up girls, an alternative to clubs being cafes or public parks. One thing you will have to be able to do is approach girls brazenly. I know this is not your style, but if you can't approach people "cold" you won't have much chance. Girls at cafes are sitting with friends or if they are alone, are waiting for friends. Almost no female will be alone in a cafe. Same goes for public parks. It is ok to approach them when you are alone, even though I will admit it is easier with a wingman. Group dynamics. You can't be shy, the local guys aren't. Better to be funny, flirty or cute at the beginning and more direct later.

Someone was looking for places to go in Kiev. For a first timer I suggest Arena and River Palace (seriously). Yes 112, is closed but there is already a new club in that spot. I didn't dislike 112 - but like Doc, having been to 111 it really couldn't compare. It had less to do with the actual clubs themselves then the time frame they operated. Kiev, pre Orange Revolution was a different place from what it is today. One good point for 112, it was a great place to meet semi pro's. And the rail up top was a good place to pick out targets, I think 109 could agree with that. ;) On a side - side note. Although I didn't like either club that was there I think it's sad that RnB became a Ukrainian cafeteria. Just another fixture of old school sexpat Kiev gone. About the ages in FSU.

Give TGIF a try, although it is in my opinion "just another bar" and not a place where super hotties hang out, even if I do admit a very doable crowd of 18-25 year old women do drop in occasionally, usually on their way to some place else. Could be a good place for some guys, just not for me. I should try harder... there are good ops to latch on.

If clubs aren't really your thing, you still may want to try "Karma Bar" which is still the expat club. It is crawling with Euros and Anglos, but quite cute girls go there too and it is more or less an "English-speaking" club... same is true with "Real McCoy" which is a bar featuring occasional live music and always featuring really drunk people. Scored at both on a few occasions, mostly 6-8s. These are places that many tourists or local expats go which can be annoying, but still can be fun and both are unpretentious.

A bit more upscale but popular with expats is "Fabrique", really quite a cool place.

If clubs aren't your thing, then forget the elite clubs like "Opera" or "Most". They'll intimidate the hell out of you.

About the ages in FSU.

There are numerous cocktail bars in the city as well, although "flying solo" here is almost as bad or even worse than being alone in a club. You really ought to find a wingman, even if he is only a prop. :)))

GQ Club isn't far from Fabrique and caters to an upscale "business" crowd. Girls go there to have a good time and/or meet a guy with money. They have a policy against letting in really young girls, as do many clubs, so expect more office type women here as well as girls looking for sponsors.

"CHE" is also popular, a Cuban place. I refuse to go to a place named after that idiot Che though, so don't expect to find me there.

Thanks for the current info on Karma, haven't been there for over a year. I agree, it is a club on every foreigners list, especially the Lonely Planet tourist type.

Real McCoy is a blast, don't care what anyone says it works well for me. There is a high foreigner content in the crowd, but not unbearably so. Lots of Russians in party groups, lots of groups of 3-4 girls too. In many ways it is the same crowd as Che in terms of age group, 21+.

Che... may have to try this place again, despite my political reservations.

Fabrique is just as much a foreign hangout as Real Mccoy, but do to the huge size of the club you don't notice as much. Lots of young devage there, but last two times I went I also went home alone, armed only with telephone numbers. Can be a real pain to get a drink sometimes, despite the multiple long bars.

GQ and Most aren't that hard to get into, but dress upscale or hip clubbish... or simply know people. Single guys have less chance to get in the groups of 2 or guys with girls.

I really like Opera too, but haven't been there in about 3 months.

The coolest club I have been to is probably Gazgolder, but it is pretty strictly invite only. Lots of private rooms and spaces in there and the coolest interior.

There are really tons of great clubs though and no shortage of really hot women in almost all of them.

Good analysis... from a Moscow "local" perspective with a foreign background, which other places would you recommend?

I suppose for someone looking for something unpretentious and easy-going, student places like B2, OGI, Krisis Zhanra or Kitaisky Lotchik would be good places to start. Personally I never liked Kitaisky Lotchik, but very much like B2 and Krisis Zhanra. Haven't been to any of the OGIs in ages, not even sure they are still open.

I get bored with the techno, house and ambient scenes really quickly... unfortunately they dominate the club scene. KZ and B2 are thankfully more alternative in their sound and not crawling with Pafosni pseudo-fags.

I agree with you, B2 is very nice, and I recommend to everybody to see that place during their trip in Moscow: you have 3 levels: 1 techno, 1 with some latino music where it is possible to score quite easily and the last level is a kind of mix between 80's US or UK pop music AND 80's or 90's RUSSIAN music... Then you see the crowd starting to sing to dance crazy... Russians defenetly know how to make a real fiesta!!

A friend of mine last week went to OGI so it is open, very nice comments from its side.

Another club I recommend is Vodka bar, with girls making show behind a stage on fire.. Hard to describe, but a lot of dievoutchkis looking for actions and expats... I went 3 times and 2 times I had a real good time there... Maybe the place starts to be known by the expats and last time I found the ratio expats / girls looking for something quite unusually bad.

Many girls are happy or proud to speak English, many will if they have to, some won't even though they can and yes, quite a few are embarassed to speak English loudly in public with an obviously foreign man. I spent several days in Moscow. The weather was great and I tried to follow useful advices of the members of this forum in order to make my stay as pleasant as possible.

They never have shame to offend the weak. I think it's true also on the people level as well. All that said, the body and face of their women is exactly my taste. MOSCOW -- An English-language newspaper in Moscow famed for lampooning Russian and Western officialdom has shut down after it fell under the scrutiny of the government for its raucous content.

The Exile spoofed the election of Russia's handpicked president by reporting results in advance. Dmitry Medvedev won 70% of the March 2 vote.

The demise of Moscow's Exile newspaper is the latest sign of the homogenization of the press within Russia, where an official crackdown on dissent has led to the self-censorship of many publications.

The Exile's editor, California native Mark Ames, said investors withdrew support earlier this month after officials from Russia's media regulator visited the paper's office and took away copies of recent issues to analyze whether the paper was violating Russia's media laws.

Though Russia's federal agency for media and communications has made no official move against the Exile, Mr. Ames said investors feared greater risks ahead for the paper, which had been unprofitable in recent years.

"If this had happened 10 years ago, people would not have been afraid to fight it," said Mr. Ames, who founded the paper in 1997. "Now there's a fear that all the power is in the hands of a few scary people who might do something very bad to you."

Evgeny Strelnik, an official at the media regulator that investigated the paper, said it was a "routine check."

"There were a few violations, and we've issued a warning," he said. He stressed that the government hadn't shut the paper down, something that would have required a court case.

With a circulation of less than 20,000 copies, the free biweekly never posed a serious threat to the Kremlin. For years, the newspaper's office was located above a Moscow strip club and the paper was staffed by a handful of poorly paid part-time writers.

It made a name for itself by celebrating the tumult and chaos of Moscow in an era of post-Soviet penury. Its readers were mainly Western businessmen looking for advice on where to find entertainment. The paper's club reviews advised which bars were frequented by violent thugs and which were popular with adventurous Russian women.

But the paper also sparked lively political debate among Russia experts in the West. An early contributor was Eduard Limonov, a radical counter-culture writer whose banned National Bolshevik Party has coalesced into a small but determined Kremlin opponent. His screeds -- complete with spelling and grammatical errors -- appeared twice a month.

The Exile assailed Western academics and journalists, whom it accused in the 1990s of understating the misery caused by the free-market reforms of President Boris Yeltsin. The paper's ribald and sometimes vicious pranks earned it enemies. Mr. Ames and another editor threw a pie made with horse semen into the face of one foreign correspondent for writing what they called a too-rosy account of Russia's transition to capitalism. The paper's articles were soon excluded from a popular Internet-based reading list used by foreign journalists.

Michael McFaul, professor of political science and director of the Center on Democracy, Development and the Rule of Law at Stanford University, and a frequent target of attacks from the Exile, said he was "sorry to see the paper go" though he didn't always agree with its politics. The Exile frequently assailed Mr. McFaul for his 1970s-style haircut.

Mr. Ames said the paper had run into difficulty publishing some articles lately because Russia has broadened the definition of extremist literature, making it a crime to insult a public official. Earlier this year, the paper tried to publish photos of a protest in which Moscow university students had sex in a public museum near an exhibit of a stuffed bear. The publishing house, however, refused. The protest was directed at Russia's new president, Dmitry Medvedev, whose last name in Russian means "bear," and was supposed to mock his rhetoric about reversing Russia's population decline.

Mr. Ames said the paper had also failed to get beyond a fringe cult status among the Russian reading public, despite a Russian-language version on the Internet.

Kostantin Bukaryov, one of the founding investors of the Exile, said that profit had gradually declined since the late 1990s, largely because the foreign business community had shrunken in importance. "Before, a lot of the club owners in Russia were foreigners, as well as a large number of the patrons," Mr. Bukaryov said. "Now it's mostly Russians." The paper's financial problems saw Mr. Ames begin working in his spare time for Russian television, and a series of his travel programs appeared on the Kremlin's English-language propaganda channel, Russia Today.

Alexei Simonov, head of the Glasnost Defense Fund, a nonprofit think tank that monitors press freedom in Russia, said the government's checkup on the Exile probably didn't spell serious problems for the paper. But he noted that newspaper owners in Russia have lately shied away from even minor confrontation with the government. Earlier this year, a Moscow tabloid closed down after then-President Vladimir Putin denied a report in it that said he would soon divorce his wife and marry an Olympic gymnast, Alina Kabayeva.

The owner of the newspaper, called Moskovskiy Korrespondent, denied the government pressured him into closing the paper, saying that he had decided to cut his investment because of "differences with the editorial staff over its concept."

My business will be around the airport, is that a good area to stay at? Is downtown better, how far is the commute? Any good hotel suggestions are appreciated.
Getting around, is it possible to hire a car for the day/ week? If yes any idea regarding the cost? In Brazil I usually pay approx $100/day, in China $50/day.

Getting around Moscow is easy on the subway. As for taxi's, the service that I use is +7 495 956 8956. If you speak english they will direct you to an english speaking operator. They charge 1000 rubles from downtown to Shermetevo airport.

Never hired a car.- but 100/day ought to get you a car with a driver. Look for the ads in Moscow times or google on the web. I would stay in a furnished apartment. I have always used Moscow Rick.- you can google to get the web site. Reliable and reasonable. They also pick you up at the airport.

I have used a company called Pullford recently about half a dozen time and always get them to arrange a taxi to pick me up as it is easier and simpler. Their apartments are also to be recomended as i do like the locations they offer. These days however i like the adventure of getting back to the airport myself and have had no problems whatsoever.

In Hilton not, with guides not. In the streets most of people will of course not understand you, but Russians are normal, friendly to foreigners, try to help. If you catch taxi in the street, a paper with address in Russian can fix the problem. Better fix the price before you get into the car, or they drive you to the Moon and charge you for it. Same as everywhere. Many people stay in Moscow for years without knowing the language and feel quite happy ;)

-- staying in serviced appartments is a much better than staying in hotels. Hotels are ridiculously expensive and many will give you a hard time and a lot of Russki bullshit trying to get money out of you when bringing up girls.

-- If you don't speak the language you'll end up spending a truckload of money on average service. Even the freebees will cost you a lot of money in clothes, cafe and restaurant fees. The hot looking Russian girls quickly turn cold and sour like the icecream and sour cream they constantly eat when the money/presents don't flow quickly enough. Always remember this place is only about money, money and money.

-- Sites like rusdosug, intimcity combined with the reports on sextalk are your best guides. Don't believe the girls that claim they speak English, most really don't. When they say da then you can tell the time you want. Best way to tell the time it to say it as sixteen thirty for 4:30PM. Talking time correctly in Russian is not easy, but they will all understand what you want with by say the hour in numbers and the minutes also in number zero, 15, 30 or 45.

Then when you get a harasho/[OK, good]

You ask address (like in English, again it sounds stupid but they will understand) It can be tricky to understand the name of the road if you're not familiar with the city, but you can cheat this one, those girls that have reports on sextalk mostly have the streetname in the report. (just check if it sounds what you think it is.

Then you ask dom/house. Which will give you the house number again you'll need to understand numbers. They might talk about korpus/block, get that down also. You find the numbers on the maps as 54K2, which is Dom 54 korpus 2.

Then off you go.

When you arrive you call again and you say.

Eta ya/It's me (they'll know, it's the durak foreigner that talks funny)

Then you ask podezd/entry (which will give you the entry number) then kod domofon/appartment code (which you'll have to type in on the bell of put the numbers on some sort of dial (soviet style), you'll want it so bad by then that you'll figure it out.

Then you ask etash/floor. Again a number will be given.

You go to the floor/ring the bell at the appartment and if you don't like what you see you can always turn around and walk away.

When they say da then you can tell the time you want. Best way to tell the time it to say it as sixteen thirty for 4:30PM. Talking time correctly in Russian is not easy, but they will all understand what you want with by say the hour in numbers and the minutes also in number zero, 15, 30 or 45.

Then when you get a harasho/[OK, good]

You ask address (like in English, again it sounds stupid but they will understand) It can be tricky to understand the name of the road if you're not familiar with the city, but you can cheat this one, those girls that have reports on sextalk mostly have the streetname in the report. (just check if it sounds what you think it is.

Then you ask dom/house. Which will give you the house number again you'll need to understand numbers. They might talk about korpus/block, get that down also. You find the numbers on the maps as 54K2, which is Dom 54 korpus 2.

Then off you go.

When you arrive you call again and you say.

Eta ya/It's me (they'll know, it's the durak foreigner that talks funny)

Then you ask podezd/entry (which will give you the entry number) then kod domofon/appartment code (which you'll have to type in on the bell of put the numbers on some sort of dial (soviet style), you'll want it so bad by then that you'll figure it out.

Then you ask etash/floor. Again a number will be given.

You go to the floor/ring the bell at the appartment and if you don't like what you see you can always turn around and walk away.

After 2 years of living in Moscow, here are some of my personal observations, feel free to disagree.

-- If you don't speak the language you'll end up spending a truckload of money on average service. Even the freebees will cost you a lot of money in clothes, cafe and restaurant fees. The hot looking Russian girls quickly turn cold and sour like the icecream and sour cream they constantly eat when the money/presents don't flow quickly enough. Always remember this place is only about money, money and money.

-- Sites like rusdosug, intimcity combined with the reports on sextalk are your best guides. Don't believe the girls that claim they speak English, most really don't. Again try to get as quikly as possible some basic Russian skills. Most of the girls I've done were from those 2 sites (about 2 per week).

-- The more expensive, the worse, if you're staying in the 2000 to 3500 RUR per hour range you have the best changes, avoid the ones looking like stunning models, it's just not worth the money.

I agree with everything you've said, the 3 most important things any Moscow hobbyist can do is to:

1. Learn a little Russian
2. Learn a little Russian
3. Learn a little Russian

It will expand your horizons immensely, and keep you out of Night Flight (24,000r!!!! geez, Louise, guys, you could get laid for a week with that kind of money).

I have some suggestions to add to your apartment guide...

Pick a name for yourself when you call the girl; Dima, Yuri, Sasha, etc. It helps the girls to sort you out from everyone else. This way, when you arrive at the podyezd, you can say "Eta Yuri". Saying "it's me" could be a little confusing. This is particularly true if you are talking to a dispatcher, who may be scheduling several different guys for different girls at the same time.

Instead of giving them a specific time, which can lead to confusion, the simplest thing to say is simply "boodoo tahm.. cherez chas" (I will be there in an hour), or "cherez dva chasah" (in 2 hours), or "cherez pohlchasah" (in a half hour). podyezd (an entrance, the same building may have several entrances, each one is numbered)

Some additional helpful Russian phrases:

gdyea ti na-HOAD-ish-cyah? (where are you located?)
and the most important word any monger should know, ckoil'kah? (how much?)
One that I have found helpful is, ckoil'kah plyoos za ah-NAHL (how much (more) for anal?)

I'm not sure what Jackson has against Russian mongers, but it's unfortunate that he refuses to give us even just a single thread for the Russian Language. One of things we could do would be to have scripts for guys who want to try the apartments and salons. Braved one of Moscow’s tropical storms last night and visited the new Safari Lodge.

The new location is at Zubovsky Blvd 27/5 which is very close to Rasputin and Park Cultury metro. The building is located in a yard just off the main street and is well light so you cant miss it.

At the entrance I was greeted hostess who I believe was called Lena. She speaks excellent English and showed me first the restaurant downstairs and then the club up-stairs. Entrance is Rub.500.-

There are 2 club rooms upstairs, small cubicles with curtains for the private dances and some karaoke rooms(I cant understand why one would like to sing with these ladies).

The main room is quite like the old Safari with sofas and a dance pole. It was very quiet when I was there with just 3 or 4 other guys in and about 20 girls, some almost asleep. I was shown to a sofa close to the dancing pole. Ordered a drink (Black Label Rub.420.-) and sat to watch what was happening.

The DJ calls the girls to the pole and they dance one number. Most strip to just their g-strings. As I was located close to the pole it appeared that each believed that the after their dance they should come to me for a lap dance. The first 3 or 4 were very friendly and allowed a lot of touching. The dances were quite erotic but short. Prices for a lap-dance are now Rub.200. As more new girls danced for me the quality seemed to improve however several looked rather bored. One of the better looking once was rather upset at only receiving Rub.200.

Many offered private dances. The cost appears to be Rub.1,000 to 1,500.- They promised 2 songs but be careful as the songs are quite short.

The new Safaris has got a long way to go to re-create the atmosphere of the legendary old Safari. Whilst the staff are extremely friendly the enthusiasm of many of the girls is not what it used to be.

I had a word with Lena as I left. If you want more from a girl, the girl must firstly agree. Then the management must also agree but I have no idea where one would enjoy a few intimate minutes with any of these girls. Also I have no indication of the prices.

So Safari is back, prices have increased and I believe that when more customers come in the general atmosphere will improve. I would be pleased to hear if anyone else has visited.

Just returned home for the 4th of July weekend after a "Wacky Week in Moscow" with a girl from the provinces. I tried an experiment by sending some money (in advance) to a girl I had met a year ago at El Inka, the Peruvian restaurant / dance club out by Oktyaberskoye Pole Metro.

American Airlines has non-stop service from Chicago to Domodedovo. The cost of a round trip ticket is less than $800. No, you cannot extend your visa. If you miss the flight and have to stay over beyond your visa date, then you are in deep... kasha. But, as a tourist in Russia, you have up to 30 days. When you apply for your visa, apply for the full 30 days. There's no law says that you have to use all 30 days, just be sure to enter the country after the visa begins and be out of the country before the 30 days are up. So, if you are only planning to be in Russia for a week or 2, you can have some flexibility with your itinerary.

In fact, if your budget cane handle it go there for dinner (reservation recommended) about 9:00 PM - 9:30 PM and get a table right at the top of the stairs so that you can get a good view of the "parade" of hardened pros who come to check out who's in the restaurant. The food is great and the scenery is better. After dinner go downstairs (no need to pay the cover charge now) and check out the action. But DO NOT EVEN THINK about leaving with one of the girls. They are gorgeous to be sure but they are too expensive and their performance is terrible. In fact, their performance seems inversely proportional to their ability to speak English. The better their English, the higher the price, the worse the performance. Remember this!!!!!!!

I agree that most girls there ARE "hardened pros" as you say, though if you're lucky you can find a girl who's new to the biz and still enjoys sex. Yes, language is very powerful. Your instinct was correct, when you observed that her English improved back at the apartment. Very few Russians speak English. So when you meet a girl who speaks English, at least well enough to engage in a business negotiation with a native speaker, it's probably because she's spent a lot of time hanging out with foreign tourists. And that kind of familiarity can breed a lot of contempt.

The best test of whether or not her promises are real is to tell her that you will pay in the morning, when she leaves. This is what most local guys expect, and this has been my experience with local girls, the ones who don't speak English. If she suddenly loses interest, then it's probably best to move on, regardless of how "hot" she may seem. Of course, you can take consolation in the fact that, no matter how gorgeous any Russki dyev might seem at the time, you can be sure there's at least a dozen more waiting for you someplace else. Went to Hot Dog (formerly Boar House, formerly Chesterfields) last Friday on a scouting mission. My last visit to BH was a couple years back, and I'd heard bad things (from friends) and good things (from Jake here) about the newest incarnation. Arriving around midnight, I was pleasantly surprised to see it packed to the gills with dyevs, and them much better looking than when it was BH (at least in my experience). In fact, for most things and most places you can ONLY pay in rubles. Don't expect to pay in foreign currency at any shops or restaurants. You can't. Hookers don't care whether you pay in dollars, Euros or rubles. I tend to get the best deals in rubles, but there is little difference in paying pros.

2) ATMs work just fine and the exchange rate is quite OK. A lot of them dispense dollars and/or Euros as well. But again, you really shouldn't need dollars for anything.

3) None of the apartment services care about your hoing activities as long as you don't trash the place.

The official currency of Russia is the Rouble, that's what most businesses will expect. So, you will need to convert your Dollars to Roubles. Used to be, many Russians would be happy to take Dollars, but now, no one wants to hold a currency that is losing value every week. I think Russians will be more likely to take Euros, if anything.

Don't know if Russian ATM's dispense Dollars, I have yet to find an ATM in Moscow that will take my U.S. bank ATM card, and give me money in return. Maybe you will be luckier than me. But then, if your time in Moscow is limited, do you really want to run around town looking for an ATM?? Not to mention all the extra fees that both banks will charge you to withdraw money, assuming you do find one.

I'm not sure what is Rick's position on the mongering scene, I've never discussed it with him, but the Moscow Star apartments are very well located and, as I recall, they all have safes for your valuables. Just excercise a little common sense, like you would in New York, or any large metropolitan area. It's just part of the territory.

I always use the ATM’s’ my preference is at a hotel but do use banks if needed. Seems like there are ATM’s every hundred feet or so on the busier streets.

Most will give you the choice of rubles and sometimes Euros. I prefer to negotiate in rubles.

Yes you do have to pay a transaction fee. Whether converting $100 dollar bills, using a credit card or ATM it’s unavoidable. One way or another you pay to convert cash.

Your problem with being unable to extract cash from an ATM in RU actually is based at home. Even with notifying my bank and their fraud department of my travel itinerary they will on occasion shut the card down. Citibank is the worst at this. All the US banks are worried about fraud in RU.

My solution is to always travel with 2 different bankcards and 2 credit cards.

Nothing worse than running out of money whilst whoring.

I've been to Fantasys and Charmel and it's been my experience that you will find the girls on the website in the salon.I can vouch for that as well. Of course the Hyatt or National or kempinski have crazy rates like 1.100 € for a junior suite... in my years in Moscow i found out that (for my needs) the best solution is an outskirt hotel three star where you stay in the luxury rooms (usually two rooms joined).

Usually it's renovated and has all you need... both Izmailovo Gamam/Delta and Alfa have this tyope of rooms, the price vary.. from 150 to 200 € full breakfast included.

"Arbat" is right in the city. On the side street near Old Arbat. If you stay there and deside to invite a girl you'll have to talk to security in advance, because they may want some money to open the door (they lock it for the night). "Bega" is not in downtown itself, but close. It's a quiet place, recently renovated. Nothing special, but ok and I never heard about any hassle with security there.
