You are however spot on about needing reservations in July and August in and out of all of the beach cities because that is high season and prime time all around the Black Sea. In addition, IMHO, the beauty of the RU women and the Ukrainian women are near comparable, but the attitude of the Ukrainian women win hands down... at least from my meager experience.

LukaNone of the places are good mongering, but 15 km south of Novorossiysk there is a top hotel: http://www.nadezhda.ru/ . If your girlfriendis nice and you want to spend some nice time with her in a luxus hotel for relative small money then this is the place.

Stayed there 4-5 times and there is always a couple of girls in the bar but they suggest 100USD/hour, which I do not even want to discuss about, so normally I go to the casino at hotel Novorossiysk where the selection and prices are better and bring them out to the Nadezha hotel. Hotel is fully GF.

In this region I think Krasnodar is the best mongering destination.

I went to Kaluga, and stayed in the completely renovated Kaluga Hotel, its as if the Leyva had been refurbished and now looked like the Omni Hotel in San Diego. The only problem was that there was no heat in the room, and it was -25C outside. Really fucking cold.

So, I went down to the bar and picked up a working girl, kind of expensive at $50, but it was Saturday night and really cold in the room (did I mention that?). So, up we went for the standard 60 minute Russian treatment. If you haven't read my prior posts, Russian service is 2 pops, a quick one up front, and then a slow one. You've probably cemented your February lodging plans in Novosibirsk by now but I thought I'd offer some observations for you and the other WSG members on the city from my excursion to Siberia back in September 2004 when I was a novice (and clueless) part-time hobbyist.

Like you, I originally wanted to stay at the city's finest hotel (The Sibir) but it was booked solid since Novosibirsk is the largest city in Siberia, the regional/provincial capitol, as well as an industrial and transportation hub so everyone who's anyone stays at Hotel Sibir (where tired mongers/guests can find companionship for the night in the lobby bar depending on what day of the week it is). Instead, the kind English-speaking staff at the Sibir handed me off to the non-English-speaking staff at the Hotel Novosibirsk who set me up in a Western-standard renovated room which was about $100 more per night than the Soviet-style rooms down the hall on the same floor (half the 23 story building had been renovated in 2004 and have left untouched).

Hotel Novosibirsk is safe and located directly accross the street from the city's train station/commuter bus depot (see photo). As with anything located near a train/bus station in the former Soviet Union, you should keep your head on a swivel while in the area but since you're an old East European hand, you won't have any trouble (hell, I can think of plenty of neighborhoods and downtowns where strange foreign languages are spoken here in my state of Florida that are far more dangerous than anywhere in Novosibirsk at night). Anyway, the Hotel Novosibirsk room rate includes breakfast in the lobby bar/canteen where I suspect you can also find company for the night if your dyev radar is switched on (mine wasn't yet fully wired up back in 2004).

In addition to Himself's http://sibirintim.com/ link, another apartment/salon/escort service mentioned in the WSG Archives from years ago still seems to be up and running: http://www.zvoni.org. I didn't try it and to tell you the truth, the dyev's don't look too appealing to me. Anyway, being Doctor Skank, you won't need the rent-a-bride option in Novsibirsk just head down to the city's main drag called Ulitsa Lenina (what else would it be called?) where all your dancing, drinking, dining, and dyevving options are located. A restaurant I recommend is "Zhily Bili" (1 Ulitsa Lenina, 1100-2300 daily) which is an upscale Siberian peasant village themed version of Yolki Palki in Moscow -- great food, drinks, and service.

I remember having dinner at Zhily Bili on my last night in Novo before taking the 20 hour Trans-Siberian Railway train ride to Ekaterinburg (which is a much nicer town than Novo -- Novo's Soviet-era architecture is falling-apart crap!) and watching the prosperous local familes and couples enjoy a mid-week night on the town. My waitress was young and "cute" (in the way that a young Cracker Barrel waitress in a provincial Georgia truckstop along I-75 might be "cute" -- 5 or 6 out of 10 -- but only due to the blossom of fleeting youth). Anyway, the restuarant was busy and she was busting her ass at her job as people on the lowest rungs in a capitalist economy typically do at Cracker Barrels in Siberia and having done that kind of ass-kissing restaurant service work myself in college and as a multi-unit fast food franchisee owner/operator in the States, I sympathised with her station in life and admired both her work ethic and her fine Russian ass clothed in a peasant themed waitress uniform as she took orders, brought food, and cleared customers' plates away during the course of my meal.

So, as I finish eating my satisfying dinner, my peasant waitress girl brings my bill (about 700+ RR) and I pay her with a 1000 ruble note and get up to go down stairs into the frigid, lonely street. But before I can get to the head of the stairs, she comes running up to me with my RR300 change and I wave her away saying "dlya vas" (for you) and she doesn't seem to understand so I say "za chai" (as a tip). Her eyes get wide and she slowly says "S-P-A-A-A-S-I-I-I-B-A-A-A" while executing a little curtsey as if we were living 100 years ago and somebody just introduced me to her as some distant relative of the Tzar. Had I been more dyev savvy at the time, I'm sure I could have had Zhili Bili peasant waitress "take out" when she got off work.

Continuing our little tour of Novosibirsk (for a city of 1.5 million people, there's really not much to do here), keep walking east on main street (Ulitsa Lenina) until you get to Lenin Square where there's a big statue of you-know-who surrounded by a cast of happy Soviet characters who look like they're directing traffic along Krasny Prospect in front of the Opera and Ballet Theatre. It's in this park that things get interesting in Novo since this is where everyone hangs out in the evenings after work and school (at least in warmer weather). It's been my experience that if you're looking for a local street walker, free lancer, or part-timer anywhere in Eastern Europe you need to find the city's public square/park; indeed, it doesn't matter whether the statue is of a Christianizing king in Prague's Wenceslas Square or a Com***ist commissar in Siberia, at the base of these statues is where you'll find the working girls -- I promise!

Now, the working girls may not be there every night and maybe not in enough numbers for every Ivan, Pavel, and Tomaz who's shopping for a short-term bride but Lenin Square is where you'll find the local street talent in downtown Novo. But you have to make a decision quickly because the girls get scooped up FAST! Since it was already getting cold in late September when I visited the city I noticed the girls who stood on Lenin's plinth (like on a theatre stage) dressed, while waiting for that night's "date", like you'd expect a working girl to dress and without much regard to covering up against the bitter weather so it wasn't hard to discern who's working and who's just hanging out in the park waiting for a girlfriend to share a sweet-tasting vodka cooler and smoke with.

Something else struck me as I watched the crowds in this park during my first trip to Russia back in 2004: "Where are all the men?" I thought. Christ, you go to Istanbul or Riyadh and you ask yourself, "Where are all the women in this society?" But in Novo, it's the exact opposite -- there are no working-aged men (they even have to import skilled Turkish labor to do construction work)! There's just teenaged boys, old men pensioners, and park bench after park bench full of very average-looking, dull-office-job holding, twenty and thirty-something dyevs who clearly have no prospect of finding a husband or having a child with a stable, sober, financially-secure man! That was a shock to me. I realized that so many things in Russia are the mirror image (the exact opposite) of what they are in the US -- I mean police in the U.S. are "good" while militsia in Russia are "bad"; 40 year old women can date 23 year old guys in the U.S. while 40 year old men can date 23 year old girls in Russia; everyday is "Woman's Day" the U.S. while everyday is "Men's Day" in Russia; and on and on...

Anyway, Doc Skank, I hope you worked the internet personals and found some dyev company for your business trip to Novosibirsk later this month because other than clubbing, eating, drinking, and screwing, there really isn't much to do in that town especially in the cold, dark days of February (but check Novo's on-line Russian language entertainment guide for more options: http://www.novosibout.ru/ ). I'm planning on moving to Moscow for business in a few months and splitting my time between there and Florida so I'd enjoy meeting you, Roger Mellie, CA_Traveler, Big Bro AJ, One O Nine, Sexplorer, Bez Bezarra, Lucasek, Ludovico, Shostakovich, Stravinsky (maybe I should change my handle to Borodin or Schaliapin?), NYC Expat, Bigth Dikth, Crusier D, GandJim, and the other Russia/Ukraine/EE board contributors sometime. The reports you guys collectively submit about this corner of the mongering world are some of the very best on WSG for their humor, practical hobbyist content, and thoughtful philosophical insights into the fascinating interaction between men and women. Hopefully, someday, I'll be able to "pay back" you fellow WSGer's with my own quality reportage and perhaps (by running/screwing/reporting double time) catch up to you mongering giants striding across the frontiers of Eastern Europe.

i am admittedly not as well-travelled as some of the members of the board and much of the lurking public, my excursions into the hinterland being limited to such porn meccas as kaliningrad, ekaterinburg, dnepropetrovsk and a few other cities or any of those nameless suburbs out beyond the last metro stations of moscow’s immense sprawl.

like many, i do entertain the notion that there is some el dorado out there, some lost city of golden pussy where the white man can show up, announce “here i am!” and scantily clad, leggy beauties will throw themselves at my feet and moan “pleez let me suck your cock meester, i so much love the yankee cock!”

although in principal el dorado can be found anywhere in ee, i am not entirely unconvinced that it may not just afterall exist somewhere out there beyond the confines of european russia and in fact may be tomsk.

unfortunately, i wasn’t going to tomsk.

fortunately i was going to novosibirsk though, and even though novosibirsk didn’t conjure up the kind of images of wild debauched sex that tomsk does, it certainly didn’t sound as depressing as kaliningrad either, and even there i had managed to get laid.

arranging a place to stay in novosibirsk wasn’t as easy as i had hoped. there was some trade fair going on at the time and the major hotels, all originally and descriptively named such as hotel sibir, hotel ob and hotel novosibirsk, were either full, very overpriced or too shabby to stay in. there was also the hotel security issue to be considered, so i actively sought an apartment. my search for an apartment inadvertently led me to siberian scarlett, a scarlett johannsen look-a-like i had met on the net. she pointed me towards a few other hotels which looked interesting, but were also fully booked due to the trade fair.

even though i couldn’t find a room through any of these links, the good part was that i had met scarlett johannssen, whom i had being meaning to chat up since i first saw lost in translation.

eventually though i tracked down an apartment agent or office which can be found at this website: http://www.hotelsib.ru and booked one of their “deluxe” apartments, ending up on ul.lenina, one of the town’s main drags together with krasny prospekt and voksalnaya magistral.

ul.lenina runs from the train station straight to ploshad lenina, which is the center of the city. however the street also continues beyond the train station away from the center, and i was located on this part. although not ideally located, it still wasn’t a bad location.
the apartment was fine, a bit below moscow standard for serviced apartments and certainly way below kiev in which serviced apartments are really the only way to go, but also overpriced at $120 a night. oh well.

first night it was late and beyond having a drink with a work colleague, i did nothing. i had originally considered going out that night as i really almost cannot bear sleeping alone in ee or without having even at least made an effort to go out, i ended up “closing my eyes for just a second” and waking up the next day at 9am. i didn’t regret it though, as me sex-wrecked body (i had just gotten back from st.pete and moscow) needed to recharge.

tuesday went well as i had some work to do in town and at night i had hoped to meet scarlett johanssen. unfortunately we couldn’t meet, so i instead decided to hit the town blind and see what trouble i could stir up. i walked towards the center and past the train station where some old women in hats and smocks standing around the marshrutki buses were touting apartments. later i would learn that they also tout girls.

walking up voksalnaya magistral roughly in the direction of the center i found, quite by chance, "alpen grotte", a club mentioned here in a previous report. its located at voksalnaya magistral 16, together with its sister strip club "mour a mour strip holl".

i went in to alpen grotte. it was shortly after midnight. entrance fee was 300 rubles. inside, the club was about half full and most of the patrons were guys, including a few scandis and many russians. most of the girls looked a bit skanky, but certainly not undoable. after a beer, the stage show started, which i must say was quite good. the dancing was fairly professional and the girls were attractive, including one asian looking girl with a pretty face and a nice slender body as well as a smaller girl with a fairly rough looking face and an overdone fake and bake tan but one of the most incredible bodies i had seen in a long time. small, she had nice firm c-cup tits, a perky small ass and, as i would learn during the sex show which features some bizarre [CodeWord123] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord123) scene with the male strippers, a totally bare shaved pussy. in my mildly intoxicated and thoroughly sex-charged state i felt it was my isg duty to hit on her.

thankfully novosibirsk was experiencing some sort of odd heat wave and it was only about –5 at night, allowing me to walk around without headgear. i walked the 10 minute walk to the train station and checked out the first floor café at hotel novo again, no action. so i went to the taxis up front and sat down in one, speaking to the driver.

the driver said he knew where and we drove off into the night on a memorable ride through tuesday night futility. unfortunately my driver really didn’t seem to know what he was doing and first got on to the radio, calling base and essentially saying this:

“breaker 1-9, i have got a special situation here. i have an american (how’d he know that?!)

silence. suddenly the airways erupt in a blathering in incomprehensible chatter and finally a driver directs my driver to some spot across town. we drive there. nothing. we drive across the bridge. nothing at that “tochka” either. i tell the driver to take me home. i am not in a bad mood, just tired and must work the next day. so he drives me back to the train station and says suddenly, “oh, i know one more place!”

in his genius, he stops the car in front of the hotel where we started and yells at one of the old ladies still (at 4 am) touting apartments, saying “this guy needs a girl!” loud enough to wake up half the neighborhood. the lady points at a car parked about 50m from where we started our tour an hour ago. blin 2.

I just got back from a fairly uneventful 3 day tour of Kaliningrad. Although still essentially a dump, Kgrad has seen some improvements as Moscow money is now flowing into the city. Apparently one of Moscow Lushkov's cronies is now running the show in Kgrad.

Anyway, I stayed in Hotel Dona, which is nice but not particularly cheap at 90 €/night. This seems pretty standard for Kgrad though, as there aren't many hotels to choose from.

There are NO working girls at Hotel Dona, nor is their a security doorman to help you find one. I took girls back to my room, but they were the freebie type. No questions were asked by the girls working the desk.

I didnt find any p4p, but didnt look either. I know it is occassionally available at Planeta, a restaurant/casino/night club complex near the hotel. I was also told that there is some street action near the City Theatre in the center, but never checked it out personally.

Night clubs I can recommend:

Restaurants that are good:

Zaria: nice and modern, international cuisine
12 Stulov (12 chairs): cosy and nice, international cuisine
Dolce Vita: located adjacent to the Hotel Dona, good food, nice atmosphere

Generally speaking Kaliningrad is dark and a bit dirty, roads are a disaster... but that's rural EE, take it or leave it. Went to the beach (Svetlagorsk), looked like it could be nice in the summer, but certainly not as nice as other beach areas, particularly Odessa in Ukraine.

Girls were nice looking and fairly easy... or at least interested in foreigners, but isnt that true of everywhere in EE?

I did have one almost ugly incident there to report. I was with my freebie gf, who is quite impressive to look at especially when she wears heels. I spent most of last year living in Chelyabinsk, not the worst place in the world by a long stretch but not exactly paradise.

Could'nt be bothered to check every post back there but the search threw up nothing so I shall do my little bit for anyone out there/going there, I know there are quite a few US/ other westerners out there.

Well, as you probably know from your Russian research, the nice easy way to get a girl is to go hire yourself a sauna (pronounce sow-na) and then ask the little old lady in charge for the girls (Dye-voo-shki) and watch the parade.

Definately a mixed bag in Chel. with prices a little higher than a home visit- expect to pay 800roubles plus.

Home visits are cheaper, you will need a modicum of Russian though, and a paper called Toom-ba, available from any roadside magazine stall. Turn to the back pages for a large selection of numbers, and if you can say "ya hachoo dye-voo-shka" and your address you're in business. Prices are usually 600-800 roubles for an hour, but to be honest most girls are none too attractive!

But the best for last.... (Well if you are going to pay that is)

Go to a nightclub called "Panta Rey", it is in the centre a short walk from Revoloution Square, everyone knows it, very popular. Well, the best part is they are all for sale!!! Dmitrov's a small populated area at the farthest north edge
of the Moscow urban sprawl, 50 klicks due north of the city,
on the Moscow Canal. Its accessible on a secondary road,
not a main highway, so if you're not pushing a barge on the

While VVO is not as expensive as Moscow, it is one of the most expensive cities in Russia. I was told by a local girl that living expenses are higher in VVO than Spb.

If you're traveling on your own dime, better bring lots of cash.

Decent, international level (I didn't say Western style hotels as there isn't one except for a Canadian managed Motel in the outskirts) hotels are expensive. Best hotel is Hyundai (owned by Korean conglamorate Hyundai, 6000 py/day for the cheapest room, no internet. Second best is Versaille, but don't be fooled by the French name, it's a Soviet style hotel (worse than Holiday Inn). If my memory serves me correctly, it's 4500py a day with a twin sized bed, no internet in the room. Third best is Gavan (location inconvenient). Over 4000py for an incredibly shitty room. No internet throughout the hotel and the rooms are 10 times worse than a college dorm. Twin sized bed, of course. Past midnight hotel staff would ask you if you need a girl, then he'll call his mafia friend and bring in a vanload of girls for you to choose. At 1500 to 2500py price range, all 10 girls they brought are ugly as hell. At 3500py, a couple were decent looking. Each time they brought in 5 girls in a van. They parade in front of you with the supervision of the mafia. If you don't like what you see the mafia will come back 15 minutes later with another 5 girls. The process lasted 3 times until I finally picked one, actually more like not wanting to get killed by the mafia if I still didn't pick anybody after he made 3 trips to the hotel. He never looked or talked to me the wholetime. The negotiation was done with the male hotel staff. And a young female hotel staff just watched nonchalently. I guess she's seen her share of foreign perverts. I was a little embarrased.

City center is full of menace looking drunken men while militia is busy pulling people over for bribes. The beach is very dirty, better wear shoes. You don't wanna get cut by broken glass bottles on the beach. It's dangerous to hangout by oneself in the evening. It's very important if you're a foreigner.

I went to a dance club (the name escapes me but it's in Lonely Planet) with a girl. By the way about 5 vicious looking men wearing camaflouge outfit with Ak-47s as securities. Vladivostok is a crime ridden city. I guess it was still early before midnight. I was the ONLY male at the club with about 10-15 girls and 10 other female barmaids/waitresses. People started to come in as the night went on. Eventually there was about 10 guys versus 100 girls. As I was already with a girl, I was more interested in observing Russian male/female interaction in there. It was very different than it is in the US to say the least. In the US of A, a girl just has to sit there and she'll have an army of guys trying to talk to her and impress her all night long. You'd see a couple girls dancing and a boatload of guys forming layers and layers of circles, standing while holding a drink and ogling girls. They (well, sometime I'm one of them) look like they've never seen women in their lives.

The dynamics totally changes in Russia, or at least in this particular club. Russian men just sit on couchs, looking very bored, talking to their guy friends or girlfriends......And I was wide eyed, possibly with my mouth wide open and drooling all over my shirt checking out 100 stunning Russian girls dancing. I probably looked like a retard. I have learned to control my saliva since after making more trips to the motherland :-)

You wanted to know about middle level hotels. I think Hyundai and Versailles are considered top tier in VVO. And if you're from a developed country, you'd not feel safe and comfortable staying at other hotels (but they provide girls). But these 2 don't provide girls. You'd have to find one yourself. Btw, armed guards with Ak-47s at Hyundai as well.

Where to find girls?

Everywhere I guess. Like most people already mentioned on the board, try to smile and look confident and happy. You have nothing to lose by approaching them.

I stayed at a basic room(single) at Versaille, there was no internet at my room. I had to use it in the business center. Perhaps there is internet in suites or more expensive rooms.

The hotel does not provide girls, that's what I meant. I didn't mean you couldn't bring a girl back. As a matter of fact, I did, but she wasn't a pro and I wasn't charged by the security.

I didn't mean that the mid level hotels (Gavan and everything else below)are unsafe, what I meant to say is that if one is used to international standard hotels, he probably will not feel safe and comfortable in Soviet hotels. It's expensive and far to go to VVO, though, unless you live in Asia. Even that, it's still quite expensive. It's about $600 USD to fly from Seoul for an 2 hour flight. The direct distance is only 1 hr but they have to take a detour because they can't fly over North Korean air space.

hmm, may be I had an upscale room with internet and that is also why I recall the price to be the same as Hyndai. I don't like the Hyndai hotel (I stayed there when I was in VVO for the first time) because it is a bit warn and not in a central location, and may be also because I spend 9 months of my life in total in the Hyndai Hotel in Ulsan, Korea.

The Hyndai Hotel was warn and dirty, the Versailles slightly better, but no aircon and room hot like hell.

Actually the night security man offered me girls one day when I returned to Versailles after midnight.

However, I think our conclusion is the same: VVO is not a place for mongering, overpriced hotel compared to the quality you get, though interesting place because of the West-meet-East experience.

I stopped by Cherepovets for only a couple hours by chance last winter. Based on my limited experience, it's not a fun city, not much going on. Lots of slush, it was dirty, lots of ugly Russian apartment complexes/concrete slabs. The air is absolutely horrible because of the heavy industry. Russians don't care about the environment. I was only there for a few hours and I didn't hobby. Sorry I can't help you much there. My biggest impression of cherepovets is air pollution. I literally couldn't breathe when we drove by the gigantic industry complex.

I did meet a couple of young girls, none of them speak more than 10 words of English. One of the college girls told me they are not required to take English in school.

I will be happy to help you with some info with regards to Krasnodar, as I passed through there 4-5 times going to Novorossiysk. (Flight to/from Vienna is in the middle of the night, and I had to stay one day when coming and one day when going).

Stay in the Intourist hotel. All services you need are readily available in the bar on the 4th floor. Normally 8-15 girls or so, ranging from 5-7, a bit pricy as they will initially be asking for 100USD per hour, around midnight you will be able to get them down to 150USD for the night (until 7).

If you go out of the hotel and go to the left, then you will meet an area of street walkers after 100-200 meters down the road. Never tried them, and I doubt that it will be possible to bring them into the hotel, as it looks like the hotel security guys strictly control the girls in the hotel.

The Hotel itself is shit, but ask for a de lux room, and you will get a sort of suite, but still a bit worn, but who cares, you will have fun in the bar….

The prices on the street are 600 rubles for an hour as of this summer. They do cars along the road with girls piled up inside waiting for people to drive up. Taxi drivers can take you, but some are more hesitant than others to find one for you. Downtown along the river with the promenade there are at least two all summer long.

The Hotel Safar has a strip club attached to it and you can have any of the girls in a private room for 1,500 to the club and then negotiate with her once your in the room. I negotiated full sex for 2,500. The hotel also has three hotel girls that can come to your room if you ask at the security desk. high quality beauty's, but spoiled by too many Americans. They want 3,000 and sometimes might give you a hassle about kissing, or GF experience.

Sosnovaya Roscha Hotel is pretty much your only option unless you use a pretty sleazy place that is basically someone's house with five rooms. There isn't much of a scene here because it is such a small town, but I did get a hotel front desk girl that worked there a couple of years ago for 600 rubles for the night, BBBJ and GFE, cute little blonde, but not a supermodel either. I've been to Moscow a couple times already so I'm now trying to extend my adventures into the province. Since I have no business in Russia and unfortunately no one is paying for my trips, after the obligatory visits to the Red Square, Kemlins and touristy things in Moscow I figured it's time to move on and go somewhere else and save some $$$$. All my prior trips have been entirely on my own. No company expense accounts, no local business contacts whatsoever before I went..... I'm under the impression that I'm one of the very few people on this board whos trips to Russia are solely for fun.

I'm still a newbie in Russia, don't speak the language and still clueless about many things. Other than the incredibly useful info I get on this board, and for that I'm very grateful, my guides and local contacts are almost entirely in my wrinkled 5th edition of Lonely Planet.

So forgive my ignorance, I'm still learing the ropes. And thanks for the diagram and post. They might not be useful to the seasoned pros, but to a newbie like me, they're the path to the promised land.

At least there's plenty of tourist things to do,
and with popu. almost 5 million, there's more

And half the toursits heading there are also

All those other industrial cities to the east give

don't have business or friends/family there
to visit, they're quite boring. If you spoke better

local culture, but as a western tourist, they
won't offer you anything, and you'll actually find
the locals somewhat annoyed that you don't
speak their language. They're much more used
to having russian speaking visitors there on
business than english speaking. Of course, if
your money's doing the talking, they'll listen,
just don't be surprised when the greedy fuckers
try to grab ALL OF IT!

After some Vlad information. A friend of mine had a wonderful "stay" at the Hotel Izoomrood (Hope I got that correct). He was able to go not a great distance away to a "Sportsman's Club" (apparently linked) where he met up with an employee (blonde ... late 30's) from the Hotel (worked in both places) and fucked her brains out. Just returned today with a smile on my lips after a five days trip to Novorossiysk.

I would rate Novorossiysk as a good mongering destination for a short stay.

Following to report:

Stayed in the hotel Novorossiysk in a two room de-lux room. Nice renovated room, well above normal Russian province standards. Internet (WIFI), clean, new bathroom, a/c, about 90USD per night (arranged through my company's local agent, might be that they will charge a foreinger coming in from the street different.

The hotel has a combined restuarant/bistro/bar on the third floor (or so). Nice ladies are around there from about 8 PM. In addition you will find girls in the hotel lobby. The offer will be 100USD/hour, but they all settled for 100USD/2 hours or a full nite for 300USD. Girls are 5-8 I will say. I had the pleasure of using the services of 3 of the ladies, one did anal but covered BJ, one no anal but BBJ, and one no anal and only covered BJ. In general service was ok and proffesional - if you understand.

Around the corner, but still in the hotel, you will find a Casino. The most important thing with this Casino is that they have a nice and newly 'remont' stripbar. Girls here did an excellent show and for small money additional services like lapdance for 500RUB and 'private room - two songs' for 1000RUB, again negociate the prices given on the menu card. The city Novorossiysk is not that big and a bit depressing. The front line passed several times over the city during the II-world war and 200000 civilans were killed in the city. President Breziev (sorry for spelling) was the commador for the red army troops in the Novorossiysk region during the war, and when he became president he gave the city 5 cement factories, a big shipping company, and a big port.

Food is good, including fish, many Greek resturants (lots of etnic Greeks lives in this region of Russia). Incrediable cheap.

Believe it or not: The city has an Irish Pub.. Went there with my free bees, and I saw a lot of lonely talent (non-pros) there, but had no time to follow that thread. Will do next time.

Thanks Prosal! Its only my second time in Russia but I start to like it! I know youre a frequent traveller and have also visited Moldova a few times with good sucsess. Friends of mine have met you in Chisinau and I know youre a good looking man who doesnt bull-shit around! To be a hunk ofcourse helps a lot. I have to hunt with my charm since Im an average man. Its possible we have different opinions about what is a beautiful woman but its all in the eye of the beholder, right?

IMO its easier to contact girls in Kgrad than in Moldova. There seems to be much less foreign competition and here also seems to be less scammers. However its a small city and therefore doesnt offer the rich nightlife of larger cities. I think a larger town in the russian main land would be even better but thats just my guess. And some basic russian is really needed to get progress with the girls.

Costs are quite high especially if you want to eat in nicer restaurants and go to the trendy clubs. Expect to pay close to western prices for food and drinks in the upper scale options. Entrance is usually 3-5 euros and so are the beers (imported like heineken) and real cocktails are more expensive. Taxis try the usual overcharging but can often be bargained down a bit if you know some russian. Within the city centre its 100-200 rubels for a few km. If you want to visit a trendy cafe and restaurant for the richer russians you can go to one cinema in the centre just west of Hotel Moscow. Its a pricy place but with some eye candy. However a bit snobbish and with very slow service. A warsteiner beer was 200 Rubels which is about 6,5 Euros.

In Bucarest or Chisinau, my expenses, which include the apartment's rent, light meals or fine restaurants with GFs, parties till late five to six times a week in voguish discos and cocktail bars, taxis, weekly buying of plenty of booze to stock the fridge, ect, never exceed 120 - 150 €/day.

I was planning this kind of budget for provincial Russia ..... it seems that I was wrong !!!!

In 'provincial Russia' you can get a lot of fun for 150-200 USD per day, but you need to understand the scene and the language (a little bit)

I think you are definitely right to aim for large cities (regional capitals) as opposed to smaller cities in the provinces, preferably places that also have universities and institutes, which most do.

Of the cities you've listed, I've been to Kaliningrad and Novosibirsk. I like both cities, although as I often stated, I don't personally find it much better (if at all) than Moscow. Your experience may be different, as I am quite well-established in Moscow which makes getting freebies there fairly easy for me. As a tourist, your experience in Moscow might be different.

If you are going to the provinces to look for women I suggest:

* go at a time when university is in session

* plan in 10 days (2 weekends)... during the week it is sometimes difficult to get your dates to work. Obviously you will have some internet contacts before you go, but still I find it works best to have an initial weekend to meet girls at clubs, the week to woo and bed them and the following weekend to tie up loose ends with the stragglers or go out again solo looking for new prey. In my experience my "long weekend" tours were less successful than the mini-holiday type... simply a matter of having more time per girl.

* be careful... there are advantages to being a foreigner in the provinces were your "exoticness" is attractive to some females... it also makes you stick out like a sore thumb and you will make some of the local boys jealous if you are hitting on "their" women. Nothing to be paranoid about, but do be cautious.

Nearly all of my minor incidents with jealous locals happened outside of Moscow. Nothing truly bad occured (knock on wood), but had the shit hit the fan, it could have gotten ugly quick.

Prosal is right about every provinicial city having good clubs... they all do in my experience. Monday-Wednesday is obviously not as full as the weekends and not as many clubs are open, however there still is somewhere to go every day of the week. To a certain degree I'm looking at the provinces with rose tinted glasses. Pick a town that's too small, with all the young gals having been with their BF since the age of 14, and you're looking at some serious disappointment. They just don't have any concept that a foreign guy can offer something: they've got everything they want. Although I've never been anywhere in the Russian provinces as yet, I think what you say about the large provincial towns makes sense. It's also fair to say that you should avoid these places in high summer - school's out and the dyevs have probably all travelled to Odessa to make men miserable ;)

I think Kiev and Moscow really are great places for chasing. The pro-foreigner, or at least open-minded mentality really does exist in destination cities where young girls have migrated from the provinces to start a new life and/or gain new opportunities. This *can* backfire in Kiev in high summer when a ridiculous number of middle aged men come over to find wives, but I understand Moscow suffers far less from this?

When you take into account the extra hassle, travelling time and expense of schlepping all the way to Siberia or the Russian Caucasus, you've really got to ask yourself what it is you're gaining over Moscow. In concrete terms I'd say that the restaurants, clubs and apartments will be cheaper but the women no better looking or easier.

I spent a single night (a Friday) in Sevastopol last August and it was ok - quite a few girls, some with their BFs. Got a number or two but didn't hang around long enough to make anything of it. Apparently, the place is teeming with student amateurs, but I didn't pick anything up on my radar. I think if you ask around at the Hotel Sevastopol someone can sort you out.

I certainly take on board what you say about jealousy aimed at foreign guys seducing the local hotties. And never mind the skinheads, the jealous guys can often be none other than the police! :) My girl in Kiev (normally the safest and nicest of places, comparitively speaking) was hauled off once late at night when she was with me. Sure, you don't look Russian, but I'll stick out like a particularly septic thumb, so I certainly intend to avoid places that have known racist/skinhead problems (like Voronezh - any others?). But I think that as long you don't behave like a typical Westerner and walk around the streets at night (no Russian of means would ever do this) you can limit your risk. I guess you've got to be fairly unlucky for something really bad to happen.

I've heard good things about Samara (and I like the name) so I'll try it. After Moscow, that is!!

In my experience mid-summer isn't the best time to visit Russia in terms of women, since many are on holiday or in the country, but obviously the weather is nicer so it does balance out to a certain extent. If you go in summer, there will still be women there obviously, but some of the university towns will have slow club action. Even in 24-7 party town Moscow the summer months are considered off-season in terms of club action.

I wouldn't characterize Kiev and Moscow as pro-foreigner per se, but they are open-minded and tolerant.

In the case of Moscow, the vast majority of foreigners are businessmen, which does at least give a generally positive impression of foreign men. An interesting fringe benefit is that Russian girls know that their "sisters" are beautiful and "ne protiv" when it comes to affairs, so nobody really expects you to be satisfied with having only one girlfriend. They just expect your full attention when you are with them and don't worry about what you are doing when you are alone. Out of sight out of mind.

Kiev is more beset by sex tourists, so although Kiev girls still will go with foreign men, they are more careful in the selection process. If they know (or think) that your only reason for being in Kiev is sex, they may eventually let you into their pants, but they aren't going to make it easy. It is much better if you have a legitimate reason to be there. At least that has been my experience. Obviously experiences will vary... a very good looking or charming guy might be able to get away with whatever he wants in Kiev, but generally speaking having a believable story about why you are there helps.. even if she still knows that all you want is her pussy. Obviously more naive or inexperienced girls are easier to impress and bed. I like such easily-impressed girls. Everybody should know their market.... :)

As for racial issues, northern Russia (St.Petersburg and the area) seem particularly bad in terms of skinheads, however if you read between the lines you'll discover that most incidents were avoidable. Obviously it is different if you are walking down the main drag in St.Pete or if you are walking home at night alone to your dark apartment complex somewhere in the styx.

Anybody been to Omsk? I looked it up and it's not too far for kazakhstan and China, by Russian geographical standard. And it's extremely cold in the winter. As usual, most of my info comes from Lonely Planet and I think this book along with all other travel books seriously lack info on Siberia.

What are the ethnic makeup in there? It's very close to the Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan but I'm not attracted to Borat's people (no offense to Kazahk sisters), I'm more attracted to ethnic Russians(Russki) and interested in Russiki culture.

Any info on Omsk will be appreciated, I would also love to hear about winter warfare in Russia from the experinced mongers. If my schedule permits, I plan to go around X'mas and new year (not orthodox). A little about myself, I speak very little Russian (some basic phrases and about 100 words) but can read the alphabets without any problem. Sorry for the delay in this long overdue report, but I have had pilling up over my shoulders.

My work has taken me many times to Novorossiysk during the past years and since the summer of 2006 I have been supervising a set-up of a new production there. This included employing a quieted a number of people as well as forming a joint venture with some locals.

During such a long process on of course creates close relation to people there including some high-ranking business persons. Of course we have been talking about how much young talent is present, and all of the people involved always told stories about their mistresses and student they were f***ing or brining along on business travel.

I was also told about a special event – fishing. One of the big shuts involved had a house in the mountains some hours drive from Krasnodar and he took his friends their for a fishing trip, which is the cover for having a nice weekend with some students from a technical college in some smaller city. My contacts there had told me about the house before and it’s beautiful, but when we arrived I was chocked: I guess a 500 m2 house with indoor pool, saunas and a number of bed rooms, big bar, fire places, fitness room and very exclusively decorated and with a beautiful location close to a lake.

We were in total 7 men going there and waiting for us in the house was a cook with nice food, a bar tender and some other servants and 15 (!) nice students lined up….

It was around 14:00 in the afternoon when we arrived and everything was very relaxed. Some of the girls had been in the house before, some were new (as me). After we had been installed in a room we sat down with the girls at at the living room having beers after that the boys, but the girls not went for the pool and sauna, after that more beers and a big table well supplied with all the usual Russian food and bbq as well as vodka and beer. I made a mistake about Petrozavodsk. I back-checked and it actually
does sound like there's action to be found there, and more than some other
cities for its size. There should be about six night spots to find local talent in
"Peter's Factory". Murmansk is just not that much bigger of a city, so
Voyeur you did have the right idea.

Getting there is another story. From St. Pitr, its a 9 hour bus ride,
or on the train, anywhere from 7 up to 15 hours.

Perhaps since you're a military guy, you could try to infiltrate some of the
closed cities on the Kola Peninsula. I'll bet any dyevs you find there would

I went to some God-forsaken places in Karelia some time ago. The worst was Medvedogorsk. It's so primitive it doesn't even have a water purification plant. And the hotel was the pits, the worst that I have seen in Russia, including my five years there during the Soviet times. My room didn't have a toilet seat or hot water. The elevator didn't work, Food was okay, though, and vodka cheap.
The city hasn't changed a bit from Soviet times, except for 24-hour kiosks and stores being far better stocked, of course. I started to think how a young person is pretty much doomed to stay in Medvedogorsk, because he/she cannot expect to get into any good university. And moving is out of the question even for professionals, if they need a residency permit in their new city.
Anyway, Petrozavodsk may have some potential. It has a university that has historically had one of the best English departments in Russia (due to Finnish immigrants who went to Karelia from the U.S. or Canada in the 1930s; one-third of them were liquidated in Soviet times). It also has a good Finnish department (or faculty, as they call them).
When I was in Petrozavodsk, innocently looking for a bookstore that might be open on an autumn night, a pert Russian girl asked me, "Are you lost? May I help you?" She then told me where to find the bookstore.
She told me she was a student in the Finnish department, had spent the summer in Finland (her Finnish was impeccable, although she said her family came from Ukraine). Try a taxi driver, preferably kavkas, as Russians says, and ask openly for girls, if he has nothing just ask to be brought to a bar a club a restaurant, where you will find other taxis…

Usually they have from 5 to 20 visit cards with mobiles and openly advertising that 10% is for the taxi driver. Usually you will get in a outskirts flat block. After some minutes a number that can be from 3 to 10 girls will show up and you can choose.

There will be a “mamas an” taking the money at once, simply hourly tariff and making the total with the hours you ask. Usually all covered and only “klassik” and BJ. It can be so low as 200/300 RUR per hour. Meaning 100 € for a whole night.

Need to add my observations.

One big difference between provincial Russia and anywhere in Ukraine is dollars/euros and rubles.
Ukrainians mamachkas and dyevochkas are happy to accept dollars
in any amount, $5, $10, $20, $50, $100.
Taxi drivers, who usually expect hrivna for short trips, will take dollars, for commissions, day trips, and tips. There are money changers everywhere and nobody has to show dokumenti to them.

Russia provinces were the opposite. Everyone expects rubles,
there are only a few money changers, and you must give your
passport to change even $5. If you offer anyone dollars,
especially mamachkas or dyevs, for payments or for "extras",
they will not be happy and may even think you are trying to
trick them, and they can't even understand how to count
what dollars are worth in rubles. Not too bright, but you can
understand why a simple girl would feel uncomfortable handing
a $50 or even a $20 to a bank teller for rubles, she'd expect the
teller to look at her like, "Oh, so now you are with *****s?"

Finally, it should be as easy as IT says, the taxi will know
numbers to call and 3 girls will come out for you to choose. It did
seem that way 7 years ago. It does not seem that way to me
anymore. I have only found taxi drivers who know where a
few "pros" hang out on a street corner, and none of them were
teen stunners, in fact, there wasn't even one worth taking, and
they were ALL very greedy and unfriendly. And they thought I was

For the taxi I must say that I used the system last a year ago and it worked perfectly. Of course not every taxi driver is the same, have the same behavior... Te trick is to ask to go to a restaurant or a bar you alreadu know, and during the trip ask for girls, and see how many cards he has (this is valid for Russia), so you can decide... The only thing you really have to take care is, when you find a good taxi, keep his number!

Only time I could NOT change money was Sundays or after 16:00 when

Usually they do not take you to an exisiting tochka, but they make up some calls and make one on the spot, usually in winter... it's cold there you know!

Answering to Vince I just posted (PM) him some rules I think are the same everywhere...

Try a taxi driver, preferably kavkas, as Russians says, and ask openly for girls, if he has nothing just ask to be brought to a bar a club a restaurant, where you will find other taxis…

Usually they have from 5 to 20 visit cards with mobiles and openly advertising that 10% is for the taxi driver. Usually you will get in a outskirts flat block. After some minutes a number that can be from 3 to 10 girls will show up and you can choose.

There will be a “mamas an” taking the money at once, simply hourly tariff and making the total with the hours you ask. Usually all covered and only “klassik” and BJ. I don't believe your typical taxi driver will have 5 to 20 cards advertising escort services in the provinces. They may more likely have one or two, but these are the same numbers advertised in the local newspapers that you can call yourself. Sure, if you go with the taxi driver, then you get to go choose the girl yourself, but he will get his comission. If you say before that you will pay no more than vosimsot, dyevitsot or tysicha ruble, which is now the going rate for an hour in most cities east of the Urals, your driver won't be able to jack you too much on the price. But as far as more than 1 or 2 dyevs emerging from some apartment blok, I doubt that any more will be available for you to choose. If you really think 10 or 15 are going to come out, you're wrong. The one or two are probably the same one or two that the mamachka would have brought to you in her own taxi if you just called them first.

There will also be taxi drivers that will just drive you around to where a few street workers are hanging about. The quality of these sluts is almost always lower than 6/10, and these are where the drug addicts are working. These are hard pros, so they will not give you anything but a rushed job, these are definitely not student types. Maybe you get lucky and find a younger new to the business one, but odds are not likely. Just my experience from 3 weeks of province mongering last summer.

In addition to Bez's veteran front-line experience (hope you wore a helmet and a flak jacket Bez) my experience says that don't expect anyone involved in the provincial p4p game to speak anything more than the most basic english, if they even speak that much. Taxi drivers, particularly from "kavkaz", don't speak English... but are world-class at understanding sign language if your russky yazik is ochen plokha.

Don't expect mamasan or any of the girls, student or otherwise, to speak English either. They might speak a little, but you'll have to torture it out of them. There is a reason these girls are still in the provinces and fucking strangers for money and it isn't because they were the top of their class at "institut". Also, don't worry about local people ripping you off. They smell paranoia like dogs smell fear. If you are confident and street-wise and don't act like Mr.Rich, they won't even think (twice) of trying to rip you off.

By the way, a taxist getting a commission isn't a ripoff. It's a commission for a service performed. If you can do it yourself, make the phone call by yourself. If you can't make the call, use a taxi driver. I have been working in a provincial Russian town (Briansk) as a French teacher since September of last year. I teach in the local state university. My relations with colleagues and students are difficult. I come from France. They look at me as if I came from another planet though I speak Russian at a basic level. They seem to be afraid of me. As far as I know I am the only westerner who is living in this town. There are a few Americans but they are all religious missionaries.

I feel completely lonely here after 6 months. I had a fling with a high school teacher but it was by luck and I was not very interested by her anyway. It was a big surprise for me as I know some Russians in France and they are much friendlier than the locals here.

I would like to do some approaches here but Briansk is a small town. Everyday I see by chance some students/colleagues. If I start to approach like this I am afraid that I will be very quickly notice. It would be much easier if I was here just for a few weeks I guess but I am living in this city.

You certainly have more experience than me with the Russian educational system - my experience is limited to having studied Russian at a Russian University (for about 5 months). In my humble experience, the Russians have a very different relationship with teachers than we Westerners (or, at least, Americans, are use to) - I can't speak for France, but I suspect it is somewhat laid-back, anyway. Students are expected to be very respectful of teachers (even if the teachers are much younger than the student....trust me, I know!).

As such, it doesn't surprise me that your students don't approach you outside of class. It would be entirely up to you to make the first move. Just tell your girl of choice you want to talk to her after class - make it sound official. Then, after class, entice her with, "how would you like free one on one French lessons". Invite her to your place, for legitimate lessons, go from there. Worst case scenario, you are less lonely. You really are in an excellent position to do this - don't be afraid.

As for fear of repurcussions over a relationship with a student - if this is at the university level, I really wouldn't worry about it - we're not talking the US, where professors are fired for sleeping with students. Nobody will be shocked in the slightest to find out that you are having relations with a student. Now, if it comes out that you've banged half the class, that MAY become a problem...

You said it already yourself, but the main culprit is yourself. If you can't approach women, then you are out of luck. As you know, Russian girls don't approach men... at least not very often.

Russian students are desperate for fun. Offer them any chance at entertainment and they'll jump on it. You have a lot of opportunities... the kind most members here would be insanely jealous of. I understand you don't have much money and are lonely. So your job must not be that great (no offense)... this also means that you shouldn't worry much about losing it! :)

My suggestion, just a spontaneous thought... why not invite a girl to watch a French film in your apartment? Or if you think this is too forward, invite a few girls at once... serve some wine and cheese and make a French night out of it. Surely you can pick up a French language DVD somewhere in Briansk. Any level of intimacy you can achieve is progress... and seeing girls in a private setting will tell you a lot more about them than in your classroom.

Ultimately of course you want to meet girls alone. All it takes is confidence.

It would be much easier to score if you were a student. As a teacher, you can try to introduce students to your culture. I would suggest a small party in your place with a few delicatess from France and a movie (or something else) for the beginning. Ask students to bring friends. You can target the friends since you can anger the students by treating them not equally (especially, if it becomes very obvious).

I just have to answer Hat Tricks comments about different people in those three countries he mentioned. Russia, China and USA. He seems to be Yankee boy himself, so his view cannot be all the way in realism with his home land.

So Russians; They can be really rude or most friendly. One really cannot allways see where it comes from. But language barrier plays a big role. I have heard they stop to make major rebuild on tourist's broken car in middle of nowhere. They can also invite you to their home and put table full of food and drinks. Can be everything they have but they share it.

On the other hand, some guys simply punch your nose side of your head, when ever they see you in some provincial towns... Especially if they know you work in their town. Even worse if you really work work eg. being construction worker can be bad, you eat their food...

Chinese are most curious people, they come to every site, just to see what is going on.

And last, Americans! I never saw anybody stopping to help foeigner with tires. Its bull shit. You have been teached that never stop to help unknown people, it can be harmful, they can be bad people. Americans are most scary people on earth that I know. I have lived there many years. Their car doors automatically locks after starting. So much they think other people on the road.

In Finland its criminal not to stop in accident site. You need to help other people. In America you get lawsuit if you try to help. If this person suffers anything afterwards and he will come to you with sleazy lawyers from his insurance company. Thats how I was told by my American work mate when we hit the car crash accident on highway. We just called 911 and sat there watching.

And media. Dont you know where these guys took their media courses? In America, most advantaged propaganda machines can be found there. It was awesome to watch how America prepared war in Iraq. Suddenly religion took much bigger part in media and terrosits where all over, biological attacks by Iraqi terrorists can happen in Times Square in given day now. We need to attack first and so on.

We Americans are innocent, pure and teamed up for all good against all evil and black in this world. And thats why everything we do is categorically ok. Even it may look bloody messy from distance by people who does not know and even worse, does not care!!!

So, no wonder lots of Americans seriously does not understand why they are not liked around the world. We do so much for the world!?? Its media blast, same blast blows in Nebraska, same in Udmurtia

But Americans are very much ok, Russians too. Chinese are mostly ok too but too much in numbers ;))

I don't know about the perception of Russian through western eyes, but through Asian eyes (yep, I'm Asian), I agree with Drifter 39 that they can be most friendly.

I have been many times to Russia, Belarus and Ukraine and find that Russians are spontaneoulsy generous and helpful people. As an example, I always have difficulty walking in the winter when it snows or is icy. If I slip (and I slip regularly), the person next to me immediately try to hold me back. If I fall, 2-3 persons immediately tried to help me standing up again, brushing the snow of my coat and handing me their bottle of vodka for a sip. Some old ladies always advise me to buy new shoes and showed me the nearest shop (with their hands, I don't speak Russian).

In restaurants, on more than one occasion, people at the table next to mine offer me a glass of vodka or ask me to taste a bit of their meal with their broken English "Tourist? Not eat that. Try Russian speciality. Very good!! Try!!!". Problem is that sometimes you are forced to eat things which do not really look tasty and can't leave before having drunk at least 5 glasses of vodka.

On the other hand, in the US, people are less friendly but are also helpful in a different way. They are very well organised. One time, I went dizzy in a mall because of low blood pressure. I think I scared the persons next to me so they jumped away when I reached out for they arms. But after I felt, immediately a few people took their hand phone and called some emergency number. They then stayed in circle around me to make sure nobody would walk on me by accident (I didn't like some of them taking photos with their camera-phone though). After a few minutes, a medic came with all the equipment necessary. That was fast and efficient. In some other countries (I won't name because I don't want to start a flame war), I would just have been left lying there like a dog, with people kicking me when they pass by thinking I'm a dirty drunk beggar.

In restaurants, nobody shared anything with me, but I must say I eat mostly in McDonald and drink coke, so there ain't much room for suggesting something local.

So each country has its good points. I guess you just have to look at the positive side of things.

But I'm still waiting for the answers to my questions, I guess I'm drifting off topic here. Maybe I should find the right forum in the online universe and seek my answer elsewhere.

The only thing I know about Nizhny Novgorod (formerly Gorky) is that the model Natalia Vodianova was discovered there running a fruit stand.

Russians have split personalities. They can go from jovial and friendly to berserk and hateful very quickly... they are very emotional people. Very emotional... much more so than Americans or most Europeans, who look at life in a logical fashion. Russians tend to follow their almost childishly naive instinct. These emotions, combined with their belief in fate and tragedy make the women wonderful lovers... and quite easy to convince to follow the passion of the moment.

I wouldn't characterise them as overly friendly though, especially not in the cities. Service is lousy in all but the best restaurants, smiles on the sidewalk or in the metro are almost non-existent and the language itself can be horribly rude. How many times have Russian vets seem Russians, male and female alike, just yell something at a perfect stranger without saying pardon or please? Happens all the time and isn't considered anti-social in Russia.... but from a Western point of view seems totally rude.

They however have their own set of rules... like it is considered very rude to turn down an offer for tea or food at someone's home... or to wear your shoes in someone's apartment.

One scene I'll never forget was riding the metro one evening. A totally drunk young man was sitting across from me slouched over. Everybody was looking at him, but as usual no one said a word in the metro as the train rattled from station to station. At some point the guy got sick and started throwing up in the train. Nobody moved or said anything. After the guy was done throwing up, he apologized solemnly for not controlling himself and an old lady kindly handed him a tissue while saying nothing... the rest of the car said nothing as well and did their best to mind their own business.

I couldn't decide if the drunk's apology, the old lady's kindness or the fact that this must happen so often in trains that nobody thought anything of it impressed me more...

Essentially speaking though, Russians really can be very friendly... but go violent just as quickly. They are emotional, passionate people. I wouldn't really trust the women (I have screwed dozens of married women, girls with fiancees, local and foreign boyfriends etc. without really trying that hard... they seemed to feel no real shame in doing it either) but I can confess that I really adore their passionate, unpredictable nature... at least when expressed by their women... who despite their nature are very loyal (but maybe not faithful) and loving as well. I couldn't find any better women anywhere... at least for me. I am not looking to marry one either though... :)

And I love the way they party... with an indescribable childish passion... like high school kids... loads of fun...

I would more or less have to agree with Dr. Skank.

Russians aren't, at their core, mean people - just on a supeficial level, they are more abrupt and rude (by Western standards). Privacy also is not nearly as respected as it is in the West (though I find the same problem in Southern European cultures - Spain, Italy, Greece etc).

As far as the extreme notions that you wouldn't get help if you had a flat tire, or they'd pass you by if you were on the ground - nonsense. On that level, Russians are at least as helpful as any other people.

I also agree that thier core persona is driven by a lot of different things which we have a hard time relating to - fate and superstition (they can be ridiculously supersticious, and take their supersticions very seriously).

Furthermor, it is a Western standard to be overly friendly with strangers (strictly on a superficial level), whereas, for Russians, they see no compelling reason to act bubbly and feign happiness with strangers.

As for the women being sexually unfaithful - I agree this is true with a relatively high percentage of Russian women, but certainly not with all of them, and I think it is blatantly obvious which women would (or wouldn't) cheat on a guy. If you can't naturally sense this from a woman's behavior/personality, you're in for a lot of trouble in dealing with the opposite sex - in Russia, China, or Timbuktoo for that matter....

On the privacy issue, I've always had one unrelenting fear while staying in apartments in Russia/Ukraine areas - being ratted out by one of the neighbors. I could just see one of the older nieghborhood women saying to a GF, as we walk in, "Do you know how many different girls he has coming back to his apartment day and night?!".

I've never (yet) had this happen, thankfuly, but it is a persistent fear. I bring it up as I actually read of this happening from a guy on a Brazil forum (sure would like to go to Rio....reading about it is about as close as I'm going to get for now....).

Has anybody ever actually experienced such a problem? Does anyone at least suffer from the same fear as me?

No, never experienced such a problem. But I think my situation is different. The neighbors probably know that I'm a tourist staying in a short term rental apartment and, given my age (over 50) and the girls' age (usually under 25), they certainly guessed that they are not my girlfriends, but working girls.

Russians are very real and emotional which can sometimes seem rude and abrupt. Americans and British are more fake. Germans and Scandinavians are more direct, which from American standpoint can sometimes seem a little rude. Back to Russians, they can be the warmest and kindest but are also capable of being the nastiest. I have been so overwhelmed by their kindness towards me, a total stranger, yet I have also been annoyed by their rudeness and corruption. You never know what you're gonna get in Russia. Guess that's what makes them so interesting.

Hello everyone!

I decided to write on this forum for the first time as I was very impressed by the deep knowledge of the Russian women psychology showed especially by DocSkank but by other members as well.

I have been working in a provincial Russian town (Briansk) as a French teacher since September of last year. I teach in the local state university. My relations with colleagues and students are difficult. I come from France. They look at me as if I came from another planet though I speak Russian at a basic level. They seem to be afraid of me. As far as I know I am the only westerner who is living in this town. There are a few Americans but they are all religious missionaries.

I feel completely lonely here after 6 months. I had a fling with a high school teacher but it was by luck and I was not very interested by her anyway. It is all the more frustrating as there are so many very beautiful girls everywhere in this city (especially in the university where I teach but I can’t do anything here of course). It was a big surprise for me as I know some Russians in France and they are much friendlier than the locals here.

I would like to do some approaches here but Briansk is a small town. Everyday I see by chance some students/colleagues. If I start to approach like this I am afraid that I will be very quickly notice. It would be much easier if I was here just for a few weeks I guess but I am living in this city.

It would be the same problem if I tried to seduce some of my beautiful students I suppose. At the beginning I thought that they (almost all girls) will naturally socialize with me as it was always like that in my previous teaching experiences abroad. But nothing happened. At the end of the lesson they leave the classroom without asking any questions. It is strange since French is their main subject and I am the only native in town. It would be in their interest to socialize with me, no? If I make propositions, especially after 6 months, I would look very desperate. I am the main culprit I know. I probably should have tried to socialize with them first during the first days but I thought mistakenly that it would be easier for them to approach me.

On the other hand I must fight this terrible loneliness (the only sms and calls that I receive on my mobile phone come from France!) and frustration, so I feel I have nothing to lose anymore. I can’t believe that I feel lonelier in Russia than in France with all those beautiful women around, especially after reading some of the amazing reports on this forum, but it is a crude fact. What would you advise me to do? I don’t like the bar/disco scene and I don’t have enough money for the pros so the only possibility for me would be to meet women during the day, but which lines could I use to start a conversation? Do you think it could be a real problem if some colleagues/students notice me approaching? As I wrote above, Briansk is like a big village so the probablity is high.

Your help would be very much appreciated!

You're a Frenchman teaching French in an university in Russia where you're the only foreigher in town. All the stars are lined up for you. What more do you want? Utchitel, one thing you always have to remember is that the Russian dyevs expect you to make the first move. They may like you, and would welcome your approach, but you'll never know unless you find an opportunity to talk and find out. If you do not, for them, you are uninterested.

One good tip, because I swear it works, even if I myself had the "privilege" of being flamed by Bez for it several years back :-), is to find an occasion to give them a few flowers. These are not working girls. To us it sounds romantic and old-fashioned, but many of these girls ARE romantic and old-fashioned, having grown up in close Russian families with values we no longer know, and they get little of that sort of treatment from the local men. And as Doc Skank points out, they'll go surprisingly far once they are in the mood. It costs us little, but usually it's the first time they've ever received flowers in their lives. It's not coincidence that the internet dating sites do a sideline in selling flowers, teddy bears and whatever. It's clever marketing, and it increases your chances too.

I have some sympathy with this guy - before I lucked into ISG I was pretty clueless and timid too, although 6 months in Candyland without a nibble is hard to believe. Even with the guy supposed to take the initiative, I am surprised some girl did not find an excuse to get close.

I like the advice someone gave about hosting a "French dinner" and inviting anyone in the class who is interested. This is non-threatening and not embarrassing - it is a perfectly natural invitation anywhere except America. (I am assuming it is mostly women, you certainly don't want Boris there.) After some wine and nibblies I think your opportunities will open up. This does not have to be expensive - just some wine and bread and cheese, cheaper than a lot of dates in restaurants.

During the dinner you can float the "private French lessons" gambit, or the corrallory, private Russian lessons for you. See who volunteers. Either way, whoever stays the latest is your best prospect.

I don't imagine there would be any problem with dating one of your students. In fact they are probably all amazed you are not already doing this. They probably think you are gay.

If your goal is to find one girlfriend to keep you warm at night, this should suffice.

If your goal is to get as much pussy as you can manage, I would try a try a version of Cruiser D's "BJ's for A's". Pick a girl who is not doing well in class and ask her to stay behind. Tell her you are concerned about her progress and offer to help her - private French lessons, at your apartment (or start at a neutral location, like a cafe, if you are that concerned, then move to your apartment for the "French Dinner" gambit - but private with this one student).

If she doesn't bite, move onto the next one - there is nothing wrong and everything right with offering private tutoring. So what if the girls start to exchange whispers or speculation? This will only serve to provide "word of mouth" advertising to those who might be interested, and will start to approach you for "private tutoring". I don't think the girls will be offended. They expect to be exploited by men with power and foreigners.

Going to these places without pre-established contacts to meet you at train station or airport, or without a flat pre-arranged would be basically impossible for a first time non-russian speaking monger, and it would be highly unlikely that any kind of travel agency exists there to assist an english speaking visitor, either for business or tourist. That is, without a legitimate registered business company providing you inviting dokuments, what possible chance would there be to have some agency send you tourist invitation dokuments to obtain a visa?

So assuming this isn't possible, how would somebody even know how to find a business to give you a legit invitation? That also doesn't seem like it would be anything short of impossible, unless you already do a lot of business in other cities there now.

Ok, if that's not asking too much, (OY!), just curious if you had any fotos? I mean, if Yaroslavl is such a porn mecca, then one would assume fotos there are a standard part of any monger's activity, right?

I am no expert, but I cannot believe it is worth your while to drag a Moscow escort with you on your travels. You would be paying Moscow prices for service in the hinterland, and probably getting a Moscow attitude about it.

Surely it would be better to do the reverse - find a girl in Kursk interested in a week long sponsorship, and bring her to Moscow with you at the end, if she proves worth it.

But I understand your interest in having a reliably filled bed each night, rather than spending a lot of time hunting, with uncertain prospects.

I was staying last November in Chelyabinsk for one night only arriving at 1am from Saint Petersburg. I was staying in Hotel Meridian which is a bit out of the center (you're not missing much there anyway) and after 20 mins I checked in my room they were calling me and asking "was it you asking for a girl in your room? Actually, knowing no Russian is a problem, but not an insurmountable one.

I first went to Russia in 1999 (Moscow), and eventually worked in Moscow and all over the CIS for six years, accumulating in learning decent(ish) Russian and traveling to probably 20-30 cities/towns, from Kaliningrad, Volgograd, Nizhny Novgorod thru to hellish backwater towns in the middle of Uzbekistan. I know Russia probably as well as any expat, and likely a hell of a lot better. Not out of choice in many cases as my company (large US) sent me to many provincial hellholes all over.

Moscow is a no brainer. I mean with the Boar House (sadly declined considerably since its heyday in 1999/2000 and now a shadow of its former self), through PJ's, Karma/Buddha, RMCoys (actually not easy to pickup in here as its way too small), NF and Prop etc etc its easy to get laid, whether for cash or for free, without a single word of Russian. Rates? BH (when it was known as Chesterfields, as indeed it is still known by some Ho's) it was $50/75/100 max. Now... $100-150. Its a crazy spiral upwards and the girls have gone from 7-9's down to 6-7's. The old days are over. You still have O'Leary of course on the bar corner... he will no doubt give you some advice (nice chap). You can even pick up hotties in a McD's if you have a little Russian. Actually thats only if they don't speak English (and many do of course). Russia is still great.. but the days of the "Great White God" factor and VJ and the Shah (even the exile has gone downhill mega).

Met the most beautiful girl in the World in Tula in April 2003 (just outside of Moscow) - she was a 10. And impossible to lay. Cest la vie. But I may even go back just to locate her! Been meaning to.

Back to the main topic. I know Expats (Americans/Germans/etc) who have ventured to shitholes outside of Moscow and managed to get laid with four words of Russian every expat knows (nyet, da, spasiba, piva). Like many of these places, opportunities open up simply by speaking to the Barman/taxi Driver or whoever you find who can speak a few words of English.

My mate got laid three times for free in Volgograd, and twice in Kaliningrad (both weekend jaunts) and he's fugly as hell (f****** ugly) with NO Russian. BUT he's like a mini cash machine and he's NOT Russian (thats what counts in many cases). In Russia you often find yourself hooking up with the oddest of people in the oddest of circumstances. People really want to communicate. And women want to get laid. Money/Prostitiution is a hazy grey area in Russia like many other places. Take it as you find it. But take a laid back approach and you'll find others do to. If you come across as a sex starved asshole you'll part with a few ben frankilins pronto (and you may have got laid for free).

Don't let your lack of Russian deter you from visiting the provinces. However one piece of advice I advise STRONGLY (for Moscow as well) is to learn Cyrillic (it's easy) so at least you can read menus/signs etc. They are rarely in English esp. outside Moscow. Most expats in Moscow know little Russian and rarely venture outside the Rosinter chain (PP know El Patio, Rostiks, ABG etc where English is available) and the expat bars. So they are somewhat lost in the Provinces :)

Also be careful not to get ripped off. To be fair, Russia is relatively safe as long as you take sensible precautions. I only got ripped off three times in seven years (all of the times I was drunk and was ripped off around $100).

Like all "advice" on this board. take it with a pinch of salt. I hate self-proclaimed experts. I'm not pretending I'm one. but I'm willing to answer any questions. (Myself I'm a Ukraine newbie so I'm also into asking questions!)

Your problem may be with earlier USD notes of course, or defaced or torn notes. They aren't welcome anywhere although sperbank will change them (for a few % less).

In Moscow (and elsewhere) you are often penalised for changing less than 100 USD with a percentage - look at the small print.

As for exchanges in Moscow its best to shop around. For example with the 5-6 exchanges in Taganskaya (Central'ish Moscow) the difference can be amazing - even exchanges 1 minute apart (thats Russian logic for you). This may of course also to do with Money Laundering (too complex to discuss here and not relevent).

As for the Euro being more accepted than the Dollar. The Dollar is still King. Although the Ruble is accepted far more readily anywhere in Russia than either the Dollar or Euro.

Big issue for foreigners is they can't have ruble denominated accounts in Banks. That always annoys me :)

Now I do not remember the street, but it's easy to find when you get in the Red Square from Tverskaya the first street to the left should be Nikoliskaya. If you go further the GUM entrance, at the next corner, you will find (now I do not remember if it is Vetosny pereulok or Bogojavlenskij pereoulok, exactly on the corner you will find a Change taking nearly everything, from Yen to Canadian $, to Danisk Crowns or Romanian Lei.

It's a useful place because after all my travel I have always my pockets full of small bills, put all together and get my 2.000-3.000 RUR there when I'm just walking.

By the way thier change for USD or Euros is not so good.

One of the best found is the booth well signed just in the middle of small shops between Partisanzkaya Metro and Izmailovo hotel, they even change (usually) pre 1990 USD or 500 Euro notes at really good rates, otherwise go to a Seberbank office!

PS if you go in to the deep Russia you can now take Euros but get 50 and 100 bills, as for dollars mostly common are 20 and 100. Maximum important take new ones! Mind that nowdays most of the bankomats (all in Moscow!) works even with your cards! And your surcharge or change lost might be really small. In my case, with a Master Card I get a fee of 2.5 € and the official day change (as in the booths) for taking out approx 8.000-8.500 RUR.

I totally agree with you...

In the provincial Russia you still get laid with the "taxameter" a special amount per hour, if you want one or twelve it's your business... and you usually find nice naive and inexperienced teens (the one I prefer!) you can easily get one for approx. 150 USD a night...

I have to do this all the time and it pisses me off.To add to this, if you are spending any time in Russia, open a USD account at a local RaiffeisenBank, CitiBank or Bank Societe General etc. You will need Passport, Registration and an employers letter (usually, but you can supply something you did on your PC's laser printer). They will give you a Visa/MC debit card to use with the account.

As I said, these are not foreign branches, foreign banks even but separate Russian ZAO legal entities governed by the (ever changing) Russian Banking Code - which changes almost weekly.

It's actually worth mentioning Yalta here as demographically and historically it is 'in' Russia. I think the glam clubs on Yalta's promenade (one's called Tornado, and the other's name I forget but it's part of Hotel Oreanda) are the last word in glammed up students looking for fun. Yalta's just a bit of a pain in the rear to get to and is only really alive June-August.

Stayed in Saratov recently for 2 nights. Hotel Slovakia, right on the Volga river. The small bar is full of girls, they also hang out in the lobby. So this will be his first try to return, and to get a visa as a non-student or non-family visitor, with a "friend" inviting him. I think this is the problem, really. If I was his family, it would be very different. But just as a friend, I don't see how this would work.

Now how the heck can I promise that? Especially if he doesn't even come here to the city where I live? Sure I could make some promises, IF he was part of my family, but he isn't. My advice is to stay away from this nightmare scenario. The boy will bolt and wants to either work here or just plain stay.

Either way, the Feds can come down hard on you for visa fraud and other lovely charges, including those under RICO and illegal smuggling. It is one thing if you are trying to bring in a close relative or even a close friend where you do know them or may be able to control them to even a small extent. But with complete strangers, just stay away.

Besides, it is easier for the Feds to make examples of small or medium sized business people than the giants. Such cases are cheaper and easier. Why risk far too much for someone you really don't know.

Besides, if you want to take the risk, think and act like a real Russian. Ask him for $50,000, at a minimum, but the more the better. That's how they would and do do it! And besides, it will help defray some legal expenses for you!!

As long as your boy can show gainful employment in Russia, the ability to pay his way, part ownership in a flat or even better a child, he stands a good chance of getting a visa.

Brought a RU girl to California a couple of years back and these were the requirements used to qualify her for entry.

Still in the interview the American consulate did attempt to trick her with questions.

Absolutely critical the applicant say they know no one in the USA and have a good reason for travel and will stay at a hotel.

Hey friends, my stay at Hotel Tsentralnaya was enjoyable, but there is NO in house action at this hotel. The lobby bar was just as dead as the in-house casino. In fact in my two nights there I didn't score, I only went out once after business and my freebie efforts failed to produce more than a kiss. I spent a weekend there last summer while I was traveling the Trans Siberian railway. Women are gorgeous as there is a mix between Russians and Tatars (moslims). Absolute stunners varying from blonds to brunettes. All in all this was one of my favorite stops in Russia. I didn't try any p4p but quite easy to pull non pros as well.

A great and dirt cheap hotel is located at a stones throw from the Kremlin.
