Hey guys,

Anecdotally I can tell you that Kiev does seem a more dangerous place than in pre-Maidan times. On my last trip I saw a guy getting punched out in an alley just off Kreshatyk at 4 pm on a Saturday afternoon. The trip before that I saw a big fight just outside the entrance to Skybar. It might not be reflective of the actual situation there, but it does feel like the problems with Russia and the economy are resulting in more xenophobia than had been seen previously. But like any big city, there are morons everywhere and you can easily avoid situations where the risk is high by not getting too drunk, walking the streets late alone, wandering into the wrong side of town.
As for Lviv, I'm sorry but I'm going to have to call bullshit there. English speaking girls just aren't as common in Lviv as Kiev. I was in Kiev about 6 months ago for a 3 days business trip. Something similar happened to me twice. I was at Coyote Ugly Bar, it was pretty late and I was very drunk. When I left the bar, I couldn't find a Taxi right away, so I walked a bit trying to find a Taxi. About 4-5 young guys followed me from the Bar and about 50 meter later they threatened me with knives. It was the first time something like this ever happened to me in Kiev and elsewhere. (I was in Brazil in the Favelas, at 4 am in Harlem, walked in some nasty places in Bangkok, Egypt, Ethiopia and some dangerous places I don't even remember.) I gave them all the money I had in my wallet, but they wanted also to search me and take my watch. I defended myself, pushed them away and yelled at them so they left. I am a big guy in the late 40's. But me being very drunk must encouraged them to attack me.
One day later, I was out with my Ukrainian business partner, I stayed at a flat in Krishiatek close to Arena. The entrance of the building was at the backside. So some guys followed me from the main street. I noticed this and walked faster with my Keys in my hand and ran the last 5-10 meters, opened the door to the building and was just fast enough to close the Building door without letting them in. So be careful out there, poverty in Ukraine increased and so also criminality.
I am glad both times went relatively smooth and I wasn't injured or beaten.
Kiev isn't the city it was 4 years ago. I should travel to Kiev in the next 2-3 weeks but I am trying to change the plans and meet my Ukrainian business partner elsewhere like in Turkey.

I've lived and worked in Kyiv for a combined 18 months now. I've lived and hung out not only in the centre, but also in places that tourist never go to, like Shuliavska and Akademmistechko. I can honestly say nothing has ever happened to me. Not once. I've even walked around at 2 and 3 am.
Of course there is crime in Kyiv, as in all major cities. However, I don't think Kyiv is anymore dangerous than anywhere else. Most crimes committed are against opportune targets, like the gentleman walking home intoxicated from Ugly Coyote (I actually live 2-minutes from this club and have never had a problem as it's a well-to-do area). You can always get a taxi in Kyiv, just ask the staff at the restaurant or club to help you call one.

The downside of renting apartment in Kiev is that during your stay, the apartment can be WITHOUT WATER for a day or two.
If this happens, your apartment basically becomes useless for incalls / mongering.

I am in Ukraine now. I like it here quite a bit. However, I don't think this is quite the mongering destination it used to be. It is also getting unsafe. The people here are extremely racist against people who don't look like them. I blend in, but those who do not are treated badly. There have been many assaults in recent weeks against foreigners visiting Ukraine. As the political situation deteriorates, I imagine this will only get worse.
I am not a serious monger, but I did have a chance to visit with an apartment girl in Kiev. It was a nice experience, but she was only average looking and I spent about $150 for 1.5 hours. I have a couple of other friends here who have had similar experiences. Don't get me wrong, she was petite and the sex was good. The sex was better and cheaper and the girls were much hotter in Bangkok.
There are very hot girls in certain parts of Kiev, but to be honest, those girls are spoken for. There are more Range Rovers per capita in Kiev than in Chicago. The statics suggesting this place is poor are false. There is a huge black market here and there are a ton of rich guys.

Always in the prime area in the center on Kreshschatyk, right around the Metro and Mcdonald's.
There are only very few 8's or 9's these days during the day on Kreshschatyk.

It depends on your luck. And cash. The main thing here is the sense of freedom. There are way more escort agencies and massage places in London although Kiev is the cheapest place in Europe I think if you are on a budget or want long call outs. This was my first trip to Kiev. I spent the last 7 months studying Russian (language study is a hobby of mine. That was for 2 fresh squeezed orange juices, a Perrier and a coffee / espresso for the girl and I guess the entry fee. I didn't order a dance, but she sat at my table for about 30 minutes before we left. Also, I sat at the VIP lounge, so not sure if there is an additional charge for that or not. You're obviously dealing with different kind of people.Well, for sure I have no idea about your experience in and about Ukraine, at least for transportation it seams you haven't spend much time with ordinary people. This is not NYC or Munich. Not even Istanbul, it's FSU. A place where licenced cabs are a rather new development. If you're still in Kiev, just take a stroll along any road and watch the people. You'll soon spot how it works.
And yes, I did / do spend considerable time in FSU. For business and pleasure - 'till now I had the impression most of my contacts are rather ordinary people. Including family and close friends.
Now, I give you that there are not many foreigners who do know the habits. But if you're visiting, you shouldn't expect everything to run like in your home country. Be open to your host country and show a minimum of respect.

Given, as a foreigner I may have to pay a premium, but the times of 30-50 Griwna runs are of the past. Not sure when you have been last time in Ukraine, but UAH has dropped quite low.
Until 2013 UAH / EUR was fairly stable around 1:10, a car ride within the city was anywhere between 20 and 50 UAH, depending on your haggling skills, so 2-5 Euro. Now it's more like 1:25 and prices have risen accordingly, so paying 100 UAH for a trip like Left Beach to Besarabsky is still about 4 EUR.
It's the same as with the girls. Even the 5's have way passed the 1200 Griwna scale by now.

I lost my luggage on a glight from Frankfurt to Kiev which I'm told is a common occurrence. Spent an hour asking questions and filling in forms etc. And eventually informed my bag is on the next flight.
Waited next day for a call to be told my bag will be delivered to my apartment. This was good news as I had not had a change of clothes for 2 days and the weather in Kiev is on the warm side.
So my bag arrives with the airport driver and I notice there is a plastic cable tie securing the zips on the bag.
Once inside my apartment to my dismay I also notice the one of metal zip fasteners has been tampered with and basically falls off the as I cut the plastic tag and open the TSA combination lock.

Case 2 - Contacted, by a prostitute site, an usual abbess / manageress (who always receives orders from a male boss) at +3806xxxxxx41, I asked for a young, blue-eyed, big busty girl, she sent a girl by a private light-grey car license plate AI8138 BI (not a regular taxi), a girl got out, she was pretty old, blonde, eyes with blue-colored contact lenses, she wanted taxi money immediately, I gave it, she wanted sex money immediately to give it to the driver (try to guess: who is the driver? Then I catch taxi money from her hand like a cat, I sent her away, the car remained five minutes on the road, maybe the girl and the driver were talking about something was wrong, I am sure the driver said the typical bullshit of Slavic men.
Now I am dealing with some girls in Mamba site but they are revealing a low-end brothel that publishes profiles of beautiful girls as bait-and-switch / stalking horses / mirror for larks and then that low-end brothel sends worn-out girls who try to scam gentlemen as much as possible.Thanks for your input.

What I do now is I travel only with carry on language, in Kiev I stay in apartment with washing machine so I can do laundry if needed, and to be honest most of the time in Kiev I am in my birthday suit. So I guess one should find away to have only carry on.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I really like the Kiev public transport. It's great, well working (OK, catching the right marshrutka is sometimes a bit confusing), and way better than most places in the world. Then again, I'm kind of a public transit nerd anyway. Heck, even had a friend one time arrange me a cab ride along the metro.

This afternoon this girl arrived in an unmarked black car (the car looked quite new), which she called a taxi. She looks quite plain, skinny and older than her reported age.
I asked her telling the taxi to leave then I'll meet her and give her the taxi money but she insisted that I give her the taxi money to pay the taxi then meet. She claimed she didn't have any money, but how did she left with the same taxi after 25 min without any money? I aslo asked her why did she take the taxi if she didn't have any money to pay for it and why didn't she just take the metro. She didn't say anything but just kept on asking if I have money and if I'll pay the taxi. At the end, I ask her: "Are you an agency?" and she said she didn't understand. I told her again: "I think you are an agency! You and this unmarked black car makes me nervous!" Tell the black car / taxi to leave. Shortly, she left with the black car.
Any input from the veterans of this thread is welcome as to what's going on here with this girl's acton.

If you want to give some money to a friend (as a gift for example, like jumping in for the expenses you caused), you usually don't give money direct to him. You just deposit it in their home. The same works fine to identify non pros, when they get coyly when it comes to money. They want you to just put it somewhere in their coat or alike. They will also never ever ask or worse count the money while you're watching. These questions are part of a standard catalog. They have a normalized checklist with features to encode the baggage type / appearance. Baggage left at the Airport of origin (or change) is also encoded using the same tables, thus they can be matched vine if labels got lost, which is usually the reason why baggage is left behind (The other common, but never told reason is an additional security check where it couldn't be put together again in time for departure. Happens often if you maxed out the space while being late at the same time).
