Has anyone stayed at the Hotel Castle on St. 148 across the road from DV8 bar?

Basically I want to know if it's GF. I spent a couple nights there in early January but didn't bring anyone back. Nice place though and a stone's throw from the river.

Does anyone know of a good Massage place close to Flamingo's. It doesn't matter if they offer extras or not as I'm really just looking for a normal massage.

Last time when I used the "in house" massage service the girl who came was smokin hot, but she didn't know the first thing about giving a proper massage. Her game was merely trying to upsell me into a ST only problem was she wanted $30 and wouldn't budge from that price.

I'll be in PP for 5-7 days and can't give up my daily massages!

Cambodia doesn't really have the institutionalized massage tradition that Thailand has, nor the schools to teach it. A true, professional massage is difficult to find in PP but if you walk around some of the side streets near the Central marked (Psar Themi) and look for very simple signs, you can sometimes get a decent rub.
Some of the upscale hotels such as the Cambodiana probably have decent but very expensive massage "Spas".

Wow. Clearly you are not yet in PP. The best legitimate massage place that I have been to (several) is right across the street from the Flamingo. Oil massage $10 for an hour and a half, $6 for the hour. Number 15 gives me the best massage so far.

For a good massage by a trained Masseuse try Seeing Hands Massage. They get their name from the fact that all the Masseuse are blind and have being trained in massage to make a living. They Have locations in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville.

You will have to find them on your own as all I remember is they were by the Post Office just past the wood fired pizza place on the right.

You may want to get a male Masseuse as the women I got gave to light of a massage for my taste.

Remember to get your directions from a Brang. NEVER trust a moto driver they will tell you "I Know I Know where, get on" I use to ask them if they knew what day it is? Half the time I got the old response "I Know I Know where get on."

Good massage is to be had. Never seen anyone I would like to take to the next step however, them being blind could be a real advantage.

Generally massage in Cambodia is crap compared to Thailand.

They (seeing hands.) have a massage parlor just east of flamingo on the same side of the street. I paid 5 $ an hour and it was a good massage. And yes they are blind and funny too. Recommended!

There are many branches of seeing hands massage in PP. One that springs to mind fastest in the vicinity is on 178 near riverside. There is another on the same street as Flamingo (172) near street 19. Just walk east a few blocks and you'll find it. It does give the blind a way to make money in Cambodia, so it is a good cause, and it is a bit cheaper than the one near the Flamingo.

However, I have found the massage itself to be better at the shop I recommended near the Flamingo.

Well two nights in Bangkok. From past experience on this board I want to make it clear that I used two condoms and plenty of lube at all times, I never did BBBJ or kissed the girls. I think it is very very important to protect myself against the fast spreading all consuming pest of the modern time AIDS. I have heard from NGOs that you almost certainly will get AIDS if you have unprotected sex in Asia. I also find it important that we as punters preach the holy gospel of the condom to any and everyone amen!

Arrived late afternoon and booked into New York hotel. Went down to Walkabout to find my diamond teethed beauty from last visit. No luck. Found a Khmer girl around early 20 to take back to my hideout for a good roll in the sack. She was good value, not like miss diamond, but ok. Two pops with plenty of passion for a flat $10 plus $2 tip for the moto. This one called Spewy or something like that was skinny, a bit cold but was a decent performer.

I had a good rest and made it to the Doll house for a few drinks before going to the Heart. The Doll house is where Hooters used to be. The Dollhouse is a hostess bar like so many others, trying to get you to drink more and begging for lady drinks. Just not my scene. I was in the Heart of Darkness around midnight where at first it seemed a bit light on talent.

I ended up with a sweetie for the night. Nothing special as far as performance is concerned but nice and considered. After the afternoons efforts sex did not have to be great, but we did some great spooning before a morning roll. We had the sad excuse for Breakfast served at the NY before Srey Karh left with the nights takings of $20. She did some nice wet kisses which made up for poor technical expertise with the bed antics.

I hired a motor for the day and went on my way. I prefer to be able to move around independently. Managed to make my way around a really bad smash near the big roundabout with the gun. Two cars and three motorbikes spread out on the road in a really bad way. I would not be surprised if at least one of them had died.

Next day I did a bit of tourism. Around noon had a quick visit to K11 a sad shadow of its former shelf. I was not offered anything I was remotely interested in. I saw a few NGO/ journalist types hanging around with cameras, wondered if they were on stakeout for creeps?

Next stop was Kien Svay. It was sad to realise that this venue also seem to have gone. The restaurants were still there, but no sign of action. Had a meal and enjoyed the area and made my way back to PP.

I had my afternoon entertainment with a cute little Viet in one of the massage joints next to the Japanese bridge. Well at first I had a look in Toul Kork which seemed deserted as far as P4P is concerned. From time to time there is goodies to be found in those shops, this one was so and so, a bit mechanical but ok.

A quick nap before I had dinner at the Walkabout. I still wanted to hook up with diamond girl, but she was nowhere to be found, I presumed she had gone long time with a customer. I had a few game of pool with some of the Yamma ho’s but found nothing that interested me. Went back to the room and had a nap before making it to Martini around 11 pm.

Not much excitement here. Selection ok, but not the best I have experienced. I sat outside and watched a stupid American movie when approached by one of the mamasans. I just see no reason to deal with them in a FL venue so I politely told her to [CodeWord140] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord140) off. She did however have a girl I was interested in. A skinny viet with long, long hair and a fairly long and marked nose. Nice, I could imagine playing around with the firm and well shaped assets, but I will not deal with a mamasan.

I send her away but kept an eye on the girl. When mamasan was busy with trying to sell her goods to some other tourist I hurried over, did the deal quickly and we were on our way back on the motor cycle in no time. $25 for LT. That was a mistake. Never take a girl LT without adequate time for the interview. She was a hopeless starfish in the room. I did her once before going to sleep, at least before I went to sleep, she might have gone to sleep earlier than me, who knows. Next morning she started to move around 5 am to leave. Have to go now. I said ok, $10 ST, for $25 LT you get undressed and make me happy before you go. Well she did, but she might as well not have. I am not entirely sure but I understood her name to be Binh or something like that. So if AVOID a tall skinny Viet with very long hair and a strongly featured nose by the name of Binh at Martini you will regret her, absolute waste of time.

So I looked after a slight hang over for a few hours and when life returned to me I went for a ride to Bodin. Just for a look not for buying. I have not been there for a long time, and it seemed to have changed a fair bit. Never found any action but did not expect it that early in the morning. By the way it was interesting to see the fun park next to Hun Sen Park seem to have gone. That was a good place to take your love for the night.

I went back to Walkabout but still did not find my girl from last visit so I decide to go shopping at Soraya market. It was a bit after lunch. As I went up the escalators I saw two cute girls going down. They were both legal but only just. I turned around to go down but they obviously had the same intentions because they were going up for me. We finally met and decided to go to a ST hotel to develop the friendship. None of them spoke much English and I think they were new to the game.

We played tag teams where one would hide in the toilet while I would fuck the other and visa versa. It was very cute and almost innocent. Nice end to the trip. I doubt they have done too many barangs as they seemed a bit taken back with the size of the whole thing. Anyway really nice/

By the afternoon I was on the plane and back to the civilisation. Overall PP seems to be changing, but it is not only bad. There are still gems to be found, but not necessarily in the usual places. I will go looking for my girl from last time again, she did rock me, but I think it was lucky I did not find her this time, I could easily have been stuck with one girl. It is never wise.

Their whole reason for being is to scare everyone in the world about aids and portray all mongers as child predators.

This is their entire form of job security, and they are hand in hand with the goverment. Believe that for sure. The Khemers are the biggest child predators in Cambodia, as the whole scene was created by and for them. But who the fuck do they put on the buses? The evil white sex-tourist, all portrayed as child predators, in addition they alienate the tourists who save their shitty little country from an endless downward spiral. While the borders KOH KRONG to be sure is the most corrupt crossing in the world. Bastards that change the price for all people and add on an additional 40% on top of the real visa cost. Of all the countries I have visited, I am totally unimpressed with the NGO's and the goverment of Cambodia.

Nonetheless I will continue to enjoy the fruits that grow their outside the frey of evil there, and spit at the NGO's I meet.

Oh, by the way, thanks for the report.

Cheers,

Hummer

I visited PP a couple of times in the past month, both times just one night.

The first time I started out visiting Casa's karaoke. Unlike past visits when that waiting room was full of girls (more than 50), this time it was less than 10, and nothing too inspiring in that group. This on a Saturday night about 8.30pm, which you'd think would be a busy time.

Went down to Martini. It seems like the overall talent has gone downhill here. I was lucky to spot one gorgeous girl in the pack. One guy after another kept approaching to chat her up, and then she was still there. Actually I left the club (quick visit to St 63, see below) and came back an hour later and she was still there and available. I walked over and started talking to her and the vibe felt very good. She was much prettier up close too. So we headed back to my place, and on the motorbike I asked her how much, not getting a straight answer. Finally in the room I asked again, and she said $80 long time. (WHAT?!?!?!) Now soon I was telling her that's crazy, how much I always pay, and at this point it hit me -- oh so THAT'S why all the guys were passing on her back at Martini. We ended up agreeing on $60 LT cuz she was just so delicious I was not going to pass this up. She ended up being the hottest thing I saw in either Cambodia or Bangkok on this trip. She was ok in bed too, when I was half expecting starfish style. She did what I asked for the BJ. Thin Cambodian girl with such a gorgeous face. Wish I'd gotten some pictures.

A few weeks later I returned to Phnom Penh. Early in the evening, I went to Street 63 to see what was up there. On my first visit, as I walked around there I was waved away by all the guys in front of the shops, saying No! No! This time the first shop did that but the next 2 did not. There is one shop on the other side of the street (west side) that has more girls, and in there I finally chose one and told the mama. Now anyone who's read this thread much knows that rip-offs are standard in these places, the old grab-pants-off-the-hook trick, it's automatic. So I had just the money I needed with me. Now the mama tells me Pay Now. When I start to suggest pay half now and half after, she just points to the door for me to get out. I mean, if I paid first, I don't see how I'm going to get satisfactory service in a place like this one. Ah well. If anyone has succeeded in having a good experience in one of these places, I'd be curious to hear how. If they really insist on payment up front, I guess you try to make it clear to the girl that you'll give her a nice tip for good service, that might work.

I visited a bunch of the bars in the 104 area and girls there don't seem like anything special. I prefer venues that give you more selection and the ability to be off on your own at a distance before choosing.

Back at Martini again, I went in hoping to run into the girl I'd gone with before, but she wasn't there this night. I kept waiting and waiting, keeping an eye out for a decent replacement from the ones who were there. She never did end up coming, and the replacements weren't measuring up (as long as I could picture my other girl in my mind, ugh). I left there when it was pretty full to check out other things around 11.30, returned about 12.45 again and the place was emptying out already, less than half as many people as earlier. When I walked around I saw that all the decent girls I'd seen earlier were taken already.

Unless I was there on a strange night, it seems as if you better catch a girl near midnight at Martini or they'll go quick after that.

Later I went to Heart of Darkness and spotted some of the girls who'd been at Martini before were now there. The one girl I made eyes at seemed very not into it -- I guess she had her eye on bigger fish now at HOD, not one of those horrible Martini type guys.

Finally, I also made stops at 2 discos: Manhattan/Holiday disco on the north side of town. Active, but it's SO dark you can't see anyone's faces there, so not an ideal pickup place. At the Casa disco, not far from there, it was the same (dark) only totally empty. I didn't feel like I needed to see more discos after these.

$60?! You paid much too much. You do no one a favor by paying these prices. I think the best way to deal with this is, as soon as you broach the subject of going to your room say, 'Okay, but I never pay more than $20 LT.' Don't even give her chance to name her price, and be prepared to walk if she balks at this. I've never had a girl turn me down using this method at Martini, and I've been with some pretty hot girls there.

thanks for any infowhy would you bother. you could get the same experience with a starfish from martini. i have taken a few cherries with girlfriends but it have never been the most exiting sex. if you get a virgin p4p not only is she going to be inexperienced but also shit scared. on top of that it will be expensive.

much better option is to get a refit. see if the window have been reinstalle you still get the feeling of sticking your cock through thick glad wrap, she will still feel pain, but at least she will know what she is doing.

if you spend some time in pp and are prepared to pay top dollar sure a mamasan will find one for you, and if she cannot find one she will make one for you. service is ok in that area.

$60. 00? !

That is totally insane, and as a senior member I am shocked. Check out my Jewel I had for two weeks every day all day and night for 20-30 total each day.

This kind of behavior is what makes everything go bad. Look at Bangkok, Pattaya, and now PP will be on its way. This girl is going to tell everyone at Martini's this. Martini's is widely know for prices that will never exceed $20 for STUNNERS! I know first hand.

What to do What to do here? I had so many hotties in PP for 10-20 and never had to tip, save for a moto fare of 3000 riel. I can see how this forum can lead to a demise of enviorments for the sake of voyuristic projected tourism. Now the buisness men of the world (corporate) are killing the killing fields of poontang!

Let alone the US dollar is now worth shit! Why don't we all just fuck ourselves this year.

By the way the Virgin hunter, . Um just forget it.

So pissed,

Seriously, after paying that much, I thought no way would I ever pay that much again, so I was thinking this was just going to be a one time thing. But somehow after I left PP, for the next 3 weeks I couldn't get her out of my mind and really wanted to get her again when I got back.

I did kick myself for not getting her number. Dumb move.

I'm out of Cambodia now and won't be back for a long time, so for me it's history. Maybe someone else will find her. It was her face that was outstanding. She was quite thin, but not much hips, butt or boobs, so the body wasn't spectacular. She'd always dance right in front of the stage, and when she'd hang out outside it would always be by that middle railing on the stairs going up to the bar, not by the pool table but the one leading up to the middle of the bar. Name "Lita" or something like that, 19. Maybe someone else can get the photo. ;-)

I've never paid more than $25 in Phnom Penh before. I've been tempted by ones at the discos sometimes who wanted $50, but didn't bite. I'd say with this one, she was pretty certain she wasn't going home alone, and no reason why she shouldn't try to bargain top dollar if she could. I think she kept saying No to other guys knowing she'd either get her price eventually, or else would eventually come down, say, at 1am. Good for her. It was the best experience I had in PP or BKK on that whole trip, so I definitely don't feel like I got ripped off.

The key 'answer' is you thought it was worth every penny....good for you :)

Now, the big 'question' - if you do meet up with her again, what would you pay ;)

It sounds a lot like the Martini girl I had on the trip before last. Really sweet face but a bit skinny. She had a similar name I thought it was "Lisa" but "Lita" is pretty much the same. I found her by the middle railing on the stairs going up to the bar. I am pretty sure this one is Viet, but I have never been able to tell the difference for sure.

If it is the same then it just goes to show one mans trash is anothers treasure. I did not swing with her. She was ok, but no chemistry. Maybe another $25 would have created the chemistry, who knows. I didn't get a photo as my camera is playing up. She seemed very hard nosed businesslike to me.

There are many girls in Martini that fit the descriptions, it is just this one had a similar name and I picked her up the same place.

Martini

The place was rocking ok but still not as it used to be. I quickly committed to a sweet Viet girl, skinny but with a really sweet face. We settled on $25 LT and set on drinking and dancing the night away. Best as things were going; my Walkabout girls come into the disco. She sees me and proceeds to claim me as a long lost boyfriend. My Viet girl had different intentions and it almost ended up in a cat fight. Out of the two I would have taken the Walkabout girl. The Viet girl had the looks but the Walkabout girl the personality and she really had rocked my world. At that point in time I had committed to the Viet girl and I thought it wrong to change. Also the Walkabout girl made it clear that only ST was on the menu.

I returned to base around 1 am with my Viet girl. This turned out to be a mistake. In the room she turned hard and business like. She undresses and hit the shower and after splashing water everywhere returns towel wrapped and I did my ceremony too before returning to unwrap her. The blow job is mechanical and to pussy licking only a gesture. No bareback problem here, but it was just one of those sessions that never really happened. After one shot I decide to call it the day, choosing good sleep before my onward journey over bad sex. Just at that stage I would have given a kingdom for the phone number of my Walkabout girl.

Now, the big 'question' - if you do meet up with her again, what would you pay ;)

I'd try to get her down a bit, which I think I'd be able to. $40 seems fair, I might go up to $50. Girls are usually warmer and more amenable the 2nd time around if the experience was good, and this one was.

I'm actually surprised that these hard rules about prices has remained intact this long - that whether you choose some 35 yr old veteran or an 18 yr old beauty queen, that the expected price is going to be $20-25 overnight regardless.

As for Walkabout, it's not my cup of tea. What people have to remember is that all us posters here are of different ages, looks and tastes. Some people are perfectly happy with Walkabout, or Sharky or Martini or whatever, while others won't be able to find what they like there. So a place that to one guy looks like it's packed full of beautiful women, to another guy looks like its a bunch of worn out hags, and not an acceptable one in the bunch. Some guys aren't too hung up on looks and prefer better performance, others are the opposite. Some like to bed as many different girls as possible, others want to just find the one right one and stick with her.

Me, my preference is for Martini cuz I like being able to be on my own as long as I want, and also be able to peruse a big selection. In lots of other places, you walk in the door and immediately are the one selected (Cyrcee is good example, or the 104 St bars) with the girls jumping in right next to you before you even order your drink. No time to survey the scene or pick and choose. Some guys dig that and enjoy the attention. And I can understand that. It's just not what I like.

I assumed Cambodian -- they're generally darker skinned and rounder eyes, which this girl had both. Skinny, yes. As for the BJ, I had to instruct her what to do, but then she did it willingly. She was nice and warm after the intial businesslike attitude when negotiating in the beginning. So maybe if you meet her inflated price, it brings out the warmth. ;-)

Oops, wait, no I'm sure she was Cambodian, because she was teaching me how to say a few things in Khmer.

Guess we'll never know for sure if it's the same girl.

a couple of weeks ago i was driving around on the other side of the mekong with sovann mee. i just wanted to spend a day seeing some of the country around pp that was not just tourist traps.
we had stopped at a couple of places where girls were running looms under the houses making strips of cloth. it turned out they were making them to order for some buyers and we couldn't even make an offer on them.
we got pretty far down one of the bumpy dirt roads, avoiding kids, horses, cows and dogs and in the conversation mee said that we could go on down further to a particular village where i could get a virgin.
my response was, "why in the hell would i want a virgin. not interested in **** pussy and they are nothing but trouble in my limited experience in private life."
he said that in this village they were not **** and some of them were in their 20s. i asked him how much you would pay for a virgin and almost dropped my teeth when he said they get $600 or $700. he said that is what men were paying.
so if any of you want a virgin, just get in touch with sovann mee, he is on the board, pay him $35 for a whole day of driving and for only $700 more you to can pop a cherry. then have him take you back to walkabout and for $10 you can get a talented lady who will screw your brains out.

Sovann Mee brought up the same topic with me of procuring a virgin. He quoted, as I recall $500 to $1000. Definitely not my thing.

my last report for this trip, phnom penh. is nice to be back here. as the last year, i went to flamingo hotel, the perfect place with a good service at a honest price. bar around are almost the same, the walkabout seemed to me got even lower. on the other hand i love low end places where i always feel comfortable, maybe because i feel myself as a lowend man, or the women in my country made me feel that way. i went there and also got 2 girls in 2 times. the first one was awful, the second one she sold herself as a viet with good skills in bj, she just wanted to watch tv.

i have to add two experiences in phnom penh i didn't have last year. first of all i explored some #63 parlors and some 154# as well. what can i say. there are people good for that game there are people not good. i am not good. if you care about how the girl look at you, those places are not good. i don't know wether they are or not, but looks like they are forced to be there. they all have this lazy and bored face, looking at you like you were junk. i didn't like. btw 63# is vietnam domain. in my experience girls with such faces will be quite uncollaborative performing perfect starfish meanwhile. if you want the sensation to [CodeWord123] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord123), those are the right places. but prices are not as low as this forum usually report.

shangai's bar girls are getting picky. i didn't like that place last year already, and i am not going to like this time neither. but i knew a nice men at flamingo and we spent some time at shangai. food there is not that bad, for sure better then walkabout. hey fellows, you want a good massage? go in the massage parlor in front of flamingo. i mean real massage, not a fake one. trye the oil one hour and half.

then i went to martini. i didn't go there last year, i imagined it like a huge garden with everything spread out on a large area. it is not. it is a garden indeed, but everything is under your eyes. i like that place and most important, i got the better contact i've ever had in phnom penh. finding a good girl i know is just a matter of luck. being in the right place helps but never grant results. there are many little viet at martini, some cambodian stunners, and some expired women. long legs, short legs, big boops, small boops. whatsoever. the first time i went there it was very easy. i was with a friend. a little tiny light small nice sweet shy viet girl looked at me. i got hard in one second. i went for her, she just told me her name, put her hands on my chest and her head on my shoulder (well, almost, i was one feet and half taller then her, but she weared high heels, very high heels). we were on a motorbike in few minutes. my friend however didn't like the place, so we stopped on the way back at heart of darkness, he didn't know it. inside some girls of the shangai pub, and tourists. not really a lot of people, but it was not the weekend. we left him there and we went back to hotel. she undressed, without clothes she looked like a dolly, a real little dolly. she was sweet and nice. she asked me 20$ i had only 15$ so she took the 15$ and ask me to go back at martini the next night to give her the others 5. deal. so i did next evening, but i couldn't find her. as long as i was there some girls approched me, one was a cambodian stunner, really, i am still complaining i didn't get her, but i thought i had to behave correctly and i was there to look for the viet girl and i was waiting for her. i really think if we start to behave unfair then those girls will learn, day by day, to behave as well. but she didn't come. i thought maybe she got a customer and already went away for lt. then i got back once again next night. didn't find her neither.

while i was there looking at her, a small little happy jumpy cambodian girl, playing snooker with a man, start to smile at me. i got seat near the table and wait for events. she was the happiest girl i've ever seen. she just couldn't stop moving and laughing. in short, when we got in my room, she undressed and start to jump on the bed. and because the low ceiling she bump on it and fell down on the bed laughing and laughing. i got even a picture of her while jumping, attached to this post. then she bj me. yes, this was the trip of bj for me. she was the last one of this trip so...
that's all folks.

I'm in thailand and have been 5 times. I want to see something different before I go to the USA. I'll probably be going myself and feel leary of a new place. Can someone suggest some basics, ie. where to go from the airport, (hotel, etc)

I pay 50 us in Thailand per night, but would like to pay less. I would like to see some sites as well as having some fun. Also just what not to do to stay out of trouble. Also I'm open to going to siem riep instead since I'll just have 3-4 days.

Thanks in advance. I feel real safe obviously wandering pattaya and bangkok, is there any reason to feel different in Cambodia?

I have a beer and look around in Le Cyrcee (or the bars on 104, 136, etc). Even though the girls have crowded around if I see something interesting I motion for her to come over. I get rid of the other girls as nicely as possible (or ignore them and they go away). But I take the one I want.

If you read about the last 20-25 pages in this forum you will be off to a good start. You will notice Flamingos Hotel mentioned many times. I find it safe to walk around in my areas of PP. But there are many warnings in this forum about the houses on street 63.

If you want info on site seeing and getting around try some of the tourist sites. http://www.canbypublications.com/ gives great Cambo tourist information.

I just came back from Siem Reap. If you are going there just for mongering IMO skip it and stay in PP. If you want to do the tourist thing then Siem Reap is cool. There is action there but a little harder to find and often more expensive.

Tell you what Berny - don't do anything worse than you would do in the USA and you likely won't have any trouble

(of course, if you are prone to walk in Central Park after dark in dimly lit areas, you are beyond my help) :)

PP is pretty much "OK" and just like any city, there are places to avoid at all costs (or the resultant "cost" will be "high") being LARGE doesn't hurt, though - singles tend to avoid large guys, packs might be an issue, but I'm pretty good myself at recognizing potential "situations" (unless drunk, but them I'm in or on a moto anyway)

Don't wear bling, don't flash $$$, don't get steeenking drunk and fall down on the street, lock up your wallet at least in your bag before you retire with that lady for the night, RTFF (above all, RTFF), watch the traffic (it's WORSE than you can EVER imagine and NEVER step out where a Mercedes is - it has a built in gunsight hood ornament for pedestrians), don't expect much in medical facilities outside of PP... little things like that :(

You can take a taxi everywhere, you can ride in the moto-rickshaws, you can walk (lit streets are better) Airport to center of town is about $7. Personally I like the open rickshaw and take pix - they are going slow enough to get good pix. One thing about not speaking the language, though - you might find a driver who doesn't speak a lot of ENGLISH (and if you speak another language as a native speaker, unless it's FRENCH, possibly Russian or Chinese, "rots a ruck" - they MIGHT know where you want to go, might NOT, too and the lack of language skills won't "help" things. Outside of the border areas any pa-sa THAI you know will do LITTLE good other than to generate a "blank stare" - or yu might get lucky and find someone who had been working in Thailand...)

Low prices for most things except food (not "high" but seemed to be more than Thailand) Rooms start at $5 for "good, clean" FAN rooms, $10 for AC. Pick a spot and stay (a room with a safe is "better" of course)

personally, I LOVE the place. been there, done that, enjoyed it immensely

(BTW - Ochiteual Beach in Snooky is far better than almost any in Thailand, lots cleaner as long as you stay away from the port area)

GO TO ANGKHOR (SIEM REIP) BEFORE THE PLACE IS TOTALLY FUCKED UP BY THE DO GOODERS!!

take lots of PIX - every turn is a photo op of usually postcard quality

If you must use the same road at all that goes from Bangkok to Siem Reap, it's treacherous. Since that is a key roadway for traffic running between Cam and Thai., I'd assume that other less important roads in that part of the country are in similarly horrific state. It's uncomfortable to the point of absurdity.

I can attest to road conditions that defy imagination, and drivers that push the limits of the vehicles towards certain death. I have taken the path from PP to Pattaya, which I believe is the same as Siem Reap. Typically the transit will go SR to PP to Pattaya. It is not really worth the financial savings, I would just do the boat from KK to Sihanouke, or fly if doing it again.
However, it will prove to be a lifelong memory.

There are 4 ways to do the trip in the Cambodia part

SR to Poipet (120 miles of either dusty or muddy road and takes about 4 hours or so depending on road conditions)

SR to Battambang (you wind up going down thru Sway to Battambang, then Battambang to Paillin and entering Thailand from there - but watch it - there have been some entry into Thailand scams going on at the border where they want a bus tickey "onward" - go read trip reports from "talesofasia.com" - it's about the best overland travel site out there - and they don't do the sex part so it's NOT a competing site to this one)

SR to PP and then PP to either Poipet (you just went a long ways out of the way to get where you could have gone direct) or Paillin (see above - you REALLY need to know how to do it this way or have someone with you who speaks Khmer or English (there))

SR to PP to Koh Kong (you cut off the route ro S'ville about 100 miles and head west thru the Cardamoms. Scenic trip but it takes about 7 hours from PP with 2 new bridge crossings and 2 ferry crossings - it used to be 4 ferry crossings. Take lots of fluids because except for the ferry crossings they try not to stop. Read the reports on "tales" but you will need to drill down into the reports which are in chronological order. They WERE dropping people right at the border, then 110B minibus ride to Trat, then a bus north to Rayong, then change for a bus to Pattaya.)

Alternately screw it and fly back on AirAsia for $55 or so plus the $25 departure fee - 1 hour. IF you are in PP, the AirAsia office is very close to "International Hotel"

I do the overland in ONE direction because I like the trip...ah, the "adventure" of it all. Besides, I want to see how much progress they are making on the remaining 2 bridges (be there in 10 weeks)

I'd say FLY to Phnom Penh, that road trip is hell. If you really want to see some sights and feel like you really saw something, head straight to Angkor Wat the next day and take 3 days or so to go around and see all the temples. Ask for the VIP bus to go from PP to Siem Reap, it was $12 last time I took it, gets you there by afternoon. Very comfortable, they even give you a coffee and croissant as you set off. Phnom Penh's sights and atmosphere are nothing great. Sihanoukville is a normal beach town, and beachwise isn't near as good as Thailand's best (they must have good drugs there tho, if anyone could think that -- its good, not great -- murky brownish water, for one). You said you wanted something different than Thailand. Angkor is different. Phnom Penh and S'ville are cheaper, smaller versions of what Thailand has to offer -- PP as mongering destination with bars & clubs (fewer girls than in BKK or PTY and finding hot ones is tougher in PP); SV has some very seedy venues, not for the faint of heart. Siem Reap is all about Angkor and its venues are expensive, lousy, not even worth the visit unless you're really desperate.

If you're mainly interested in mongering and are happy with sth just a bit diff than Thailand, then by all means go to PP and SV. You might be disappointed (very few super-hotties, sometimes none), or you might dig it. (cheap)

If you have 3-4 days, you will spend one whole day just getting to Siem Reap and or Sihanoukville. Count on 6hrs of bus travel, which at the end does not drop you conviently at a hotel. Thus you will need to Tuk Tuk it from the bus stations, and find a hotel to unload and shower (1hr). Set up arrangements to see Ankor Wat, tour starts at 7-8 in the a.m.. Then get back again. It is either PP or SR as you window of time is too limited.

By the way unless you are a hardcore anthropologist, 1 day is enough of Ankor. As there are really only 4-5 temples that are the bomb, the rest are small and rely on "interesting" stories to desiginate their importance. And the endless Tuk Tuk hum on seemingly never ending roads around SR makes it very tiring to spend three days driving around. You will be spent in more ways that one.

Like Wendella said, the selection of babes in Cambo is not geared toward stunners, nor girls that really maintain themselves in a 1st world kind of way. But it is cheap. SV brothels are the right out of a David Lynch movie freak scene. I would avoid them and go to the bars, and "nicer" hostess places. Sometimes you will find somthing perceived as very pretty (see PP Photo Gallery- Jewel), but often the perception is due to ones long term exposure to uglies.

once again
Cheers.

Angkor "pass" - 1 day $20; 3 days $40; 7 days $60

Don't get caught without it - the fine is $100 and you have to go back and buy the pass, too

Now being HONEST - Bayon, Elephant Terrace, couple of the other "more famous ruins" and a look at some restoration activity is worth a DAY (8AM to 4PM or so) and frankly, AFTER YOU'VE SEEN ONE BIG FUCKING PILE OF ROCKS YOU'VE SEEN THEM ALL (ruins, that is, the "intact temples" and the ones under restoration are interesting and good photo ops)

Grab a bite to eat at 4 or so and wait somewhere close to Angkor until 5 PM or so then take the hike up the hill to the summit temple ruins directly across from the Angkor causeway. Watch the sundown, take a few more pix (you DID take pix at all those photo sites earlier in the day, right?) then right after sunset GET YOUR ASS DOWN OFF THE HILL! (it's not "dangerous" - might be better if you have a torch and it is NOT pitch black going down the elephant trail to/from the summit (which you can ride the elephant for $15 or so, if you so fancy) BUT THE BUGS ARE OUT FOR BLOOD - YOUR BLOOD (and with dengue in the area, tis better to avoid than be bitten (OK?) OFF! Deep Woods repelled them more or less (100% DEET)

Next day go back out and do Angkor itself. Takes at least 4 hours to scratch the surface (poor pun - don't scratch it, it's marvelous to look at the ancient Hindu temple works) Climb to the top (not for the faint of heart - only ONE handrail, the steps are about 16 inches high and while it's easy enough going UP, going down is where the faint of heart will feel it) Several nooks and crannies with various Buddha images there and a marvelous frieze in relief around the outer pavillion of the Ramamaya tale of Vishnu and triumph over the demonic forces (all 300 meters (900 feet more or less) of it).

Then, unless you are not worn out yet. GO BACK TO PP or Thailand. SR seems to flood easily - an early evening thunderstorm and the streets seem to have up to 10 cm of water (6 inches).

There is entertainment, just not a whole lot unless you speak Khmer (I don't, poot Thai, dai, though) or want to take "pot luck"

Obviously, this doesn't belong in PP posting, but since that's where the question started, I'll leave it here

There is no Pass required to enter the temple complex.
If you do not enter the temples physically it is ok. You can see from outside and take pictures etc.
The guy at the entrance will ask you for the Ticket if you try to enter any of the temples.

OK, it does take abt 6 hrs by bus to get to Siem Reap from PP, that's right. You could also instead fly into SR rather than stop in PP on the way. Flights to PP (Air Asia) are much lower than to SR. Whether taking the bus or flight, if you book a room ahead of time via the net (one suggestion: www.talesofasia.com, the Two Dragons in SR) they'll pick you up at the bus station or airport. I think that would be free. Same is true in PP with Flamingo. (btw, the bus trip to Sihanoukville from PP should be only 4 hrs). Your Angkor tour can start anytime you like -- I've always done it with a motorbike guy, and then I'm on my own inside the temple (not led by a guide). Last, I've done the Angkor temples twice, and I'd say one day is a bum's rush through it. Two days would be about right for the first time -- I found 3 days straight did burn me out. So I'd suggest get the 3 day pass and then go on day one, then take a day off and go again on the last day for the rest. Angkor Wat itself (the biggest by far of the bunch) is worth at least a few hours alone. If you can get something that explains the wall carvings on the ground floor, they tell stories of epic battles or scenes from the Mahabharatta (sp? -- Hindu holy epic text) with an overwhelming amount of interesting detail, if you can figure out what you're looking at. In one area, one after another of torture scenes are depicted. Battles with monkey armies atop elephants in other areas. These murals (they're carved) go on and on for hundreds of meters in length*, on each side of the ground level. And this is just the first level. It's true that you can get tired of looking at more and more temples one after another, but if you refresh yourself in between then you will notice the unique things on your later visits and be able to appreciate it. If you went all that way, should try to get as much of the experience as possible, in the best conditions, I think.

ps: To go to Angkor Wat and not enter the temples, as suggested below, well, to go into the temples is what the experience is all about. I mean, would you go to Bangkok and only look at the Grand Palace and Wat Po from outside the wall? Or maybe go to Nana Plaza and only stand at the front gate, not go inside? You can save money on beer then, and no risk of having to pay a bar fine. ;-)

* exaggeration... but it's REALLY LONG

Wow, I am in Phnom Penh again and what a difference 2 months makes!! The place (in my humble opinion) has fallen to peices. It is scarcely worth coming here to monger at the moment, it would almost seem as though there is some kind of movement to get rid of the Vietnamese girls...Cyrcee's was good on Friday night and then empty on Saturday night, but apart from that one good night in Cyrcee's the rest has been nothing to get excited about..maybe this is because of the Khmer Rouge trial thing that has been going on, maybe they decided to clean the place up...

Went to street 63 and a few of the places were closed or just waving people away...went into one place in 63 and got a girl upstairs but it was clear from the beginning that she was going to be a complete waste of time...I had already paid the $15 in advance and I was very surprised that when I came back downstairs the Papasan agreed to refund my money in full...I think the stories about trapdoors under the bed are an urban myth personally.

Just my 2 cents worth but personally I feel that Phnom Penh is in its death Knell (I have been here 5 times over the last 15 years) and it has been amazing to see the transformation since I first came here in 1994... or even since January when I was here last!!!

Its funny you should mention this, because MSNBC just did a 1hr documentry last night about the sex tourism industry and you PP was just a popular place, and how the women are sold into sexual slavery. They went on as to how long it took the Cambodian government to do anything about it, until Bush signed into law banning US citizens from traveling abroad with the intent to have sex with a prostitute.

Man they'll be banning Internet porn before you know it. Wanking will be next. The "wanker" police.

I must agree PP is getting a bit stranger. And I think this is because the anti-prostitution NGO types (let's call a spade a spade. They're not "NGOs" like the conventional types. Who also like to monger on occasion I reckon. They're "moral zealots" opposed to ALL prostitution. That's their 'mission' or 'missionary') and they are using their mobile phones to take pictures of the customers inside the favorite sex venues. I've seen this already actually (at least I was pretty sure that's what was happening). The guy tried to be discreet but I noticed it on one occasion.

So very very glad to see the big guys getting written up for having sex w/ prostitutes, i.e. NY governor Spitzer. The US is run by a bunch of sexually repressed men and women who go to some facimile of church to feel good about their fucked up mentalities.
The reason this country is so fucked is because nobody is fucking, and everybody is handcuffed for doing it. Finally their was an Age of Consent report done by John Stossle(sp?) on lame O 20/20, and he noted how screwed and skewed the whole system is. So very disturbing to see men and women being punished for natural biological behaviors. Obviously I do not condone or respect any grown men or women for seeking out children for sex, but this Age of Consent really does shine light on the stupidity of labrinth laws to punish all.
I hope the B administration rots in hell for what they have done to the world and the US.
And I encourage all men with clacking balls to get out of the states and start living!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Wow, I am in Phnom Penh again and what a difference 2 months makes!! The place (in my humble opinion) has fallen to peices. It is scarcely worth coming here to monger at the moment, it would almost seem as though there is some kind of movement to get rid of the Vietnamese girls...Cyrcee's was good on Friday night and then empty on Saturday night, but apart from that one good night in Cyrcee's the rest has been nothing to get excited about..maybe this is because of the Khmer Rouge trial thing that has been going on, maybe they decided to clean the place up...Could you elaborate on this a bit? Are you saying the usual venues are dry for Vietnamese providers? or that girls are gone altogether because of a clean up? What other places did you visit recently? I was also there in early January and, like you, I thought things were humming along.

Can anyone else out there add to Bowerboy's observations?

But as far as having sex with a prostitute, that should be a matter between him and his wife and not addressed by laws based on Judeo-Christian morals. Is that the point you wanted to make?

Sorry for diversion. Let's get back to the scene in Phnom Penh.

That story is not new; it is about 5 (plus) years old and has less to do directly with the events on the ground right now. Also that law was made it possible for the U.S Govt to prosecute U.S citizens/residents traveling overseas who had sex with minors not with prostitutes.

Actually, this is a newer law - H.R.3887. You can google it to get lots of information. From what I understand, the language has been toned down a bit. Originally, it was supposed to, indeed, target those Americans who travelled to foreign lands to have sex with prostitutes saying that its citizens shouldn't be allowed to break American laws no matter where they may be. The intent was to stop trafficking, and that included, not only children, but women.

Now, they are not planning to go after the johns, but to those who might profit from prostitution. In other words, if you own a bar in Thailand, and employ sex workers, they could prosecute you under this new law.

Yeah, I was there last month. There are a few in Martini, but they're asking for 20 bucks ST. I got her down to 15, but she was a ***** so I passed. I went to Sharky's all 4 nights I was in PP - skankville in there now. There were maybe 2-3 Viet girls and none of them were worth paying for. I actually took a little hottie Viet girl from Le Cyrcee and went to Sharky's....all eyes were on her. :)

Never did find Le Cyree's. But Martini's, I thought, was fine. Found one each night that were fine and could have easily found more. I thought Walkabout was skanky and Shanghai girls seemed more like hostesses.

Anyway, that's my take. One woman at Martini's looked like she was about 15 and I noticed all the guys were staying "way" away from her. Good for them! She may have been older, but why chance it?

Hello,

I am in Phnom Penh right now. Other mongers here have warned me that there are lots of raids going on.

I was in Cyrcee last night, they have closed their rooms, price is from 15 dollar+barfine 5 dollar.

Walkabout is wery good, they have 4-5 supermodells. The price 15-20 dollars.

They have rooms for 3 dollars.

It's me again, the time is around 7 pm in PP.

I have just fucked another hottie at Walkabouts. She was very skinny around 40 kilo, and wonderful, I took her to Flamingos hotel and fucked her long time. I gave her 20 USD. She had a body to die for.

Le Crycee as mentioned is the usual price + $5 bar fine and take out only. There are rooms nearby but it is $5 so you are in for a total of $25 ST if you don't use your own room. I just returned from there and had the company of a cute Viet girl. But I got a bit upset at her as I though she was ripping me off for $5 as I didn't know about the new rules. Think the bar is making up for the lost revenue from the rooms. Mikado seems to be closed. In rather bad English I think the Viet girl said for a week. But I'm not totally sure. Something obviously bad must have happened. The Viet girl agreed when I said police but again it was tough communicating. But I do know at 11:30 tonight the doors were closed.

There are a couple of cuties in Sharky's but not many. The hostess bars from street 102 down to DV8 seem to be going OK but you have to find a girl that will go. I don't find the selection that great at DV8 at the moment but the owners other three bars seem to have a better selection. Although I didn't have great luck picking the girls that will go last night.

I don't really like Martini or Walkabout although I saw a real looker in Walkabout yesterday. May have to drop in there more often.

I am no expert as this is my first trip and I have been here about two weeks. But using past reports and hitting the hostess bars a lot I don't think the scene is too bad. But my favorite two ST places seem to be wounded at the moment.

It is pretty self explainitory: Whoever, for the purpose of commercial advantage or private financial gain, knowingly arranges, induces, procures the travel of a person in foreign commerce for the purpose of engaging in any commercial sex act, or attempts to do so, shall be fined under this title, imprisoned no more than 10 years, or both.

Thats it. See the ''procures the travel of a person in foreign commerce'' part? This isnt us. It doesnt say if a person travels for the purpose of engaging in the sex trade, but only if you make arrangements for a person in foreign commerce, and if you will get favor or monetary gain.

In other words, it doesnt apply to us.

Clearly it is not illegal to monger, as the above wording doesnt even imply such.

shots - depends on your point of view

Some recommend HEP A and B shots. A good idea is to make sure sure your tetanus shot is current. other routine vaccinations, of course

Myself - I didn't do the HEP, the rest of the stuff is just the "normal" shots I get in general.

Dengue can be a problem in mosquito areas, but there isn't a shot for it anyway

A lot depends on locale and expected exposure

Health. Recommended vaccinations for Cambodia: www.mdtravelhealth.com/destinations/asia/Cambodia.html

In a nutshell. Hep A, Hep B, Typhoid, make sure your Tetanus is up to date, and you might get/need a Yellow Fever shot depending on where else you've been. I didn't bother with Jap Encephalitis or Malaria meds (even when I went to Siem Reap) and already had a Yellow Fever shot recently. My GP recommended I take the Encephalitis shot if I'd gone to Vietnam too, but decided a two-night flying visit wasn't worth it if I had to pay an extra £50 ($100) for a needle.

Hotels:

When you get to Phnom Penh, negotiate a moto-dup ride (motorcycle) into town. It should be about $3, although it's no big deal to even pay double for that one journey, and tell your driver to take you to the central market, and from there to the river (about two blocks on). There are bars & restaurants and decent guesthouses all along the riverfront. Almost all bars & guesthouses also carry a small (3"x4") English tourist guide magazine which is full of maps, shopping, hotels, bars, restaurants, and it's very handy for getting around the next few days.

I made the mistake of just staying each night in a different (cheap) hotel recommended by my moto-dup driver, and although there was no problem finding $20 rooms, most were barely worth $5 a night. Clean, but incredibly basic and annoying. Changed hotels a few times and wasn't ever very satisfied, until I found one myself: a small studio room (en-suite toilet / shower-head) at Bogie & Bacall (#20, St. 136). A very GF guesthouse (the owners are UK expats with Cambodian girlfriends), next door to Nordic House: another nice cafe/guesthouse with decent Wi-Fi.

Problems:

The in-your-face hardship and poverty. Landmine victims on every street, and incredibly sweet (but relentless, and hard-to-ignore) kindergarten-age kids hawking a really heavy box of books & tourist guides. You are torn between wanting to help these victims/young kids, and getting really annoyed with them. Just try being nice to one and see how many others come running! Then you have the added problem of endless attention from motodup & tuk-tuk drivers who will literally follow you down the street for blocks until they get the message. If you consider yourself a polite person, as I do, it becomes genuinely wearing, difficult and frustrating to get rid of every driver/beggar you come across.

I fell into the tourist trap of being nice to the motodup guy who gave me a lift from the airport, and he took me around for the next two days recommending the crappiest hotels and having no idea where to find girls. Do NOT pay for a driver to stay with you or take you around all day. They will try and get $20-30/day, when almost any journey in town can be had for $1-2 max (perhaps even less), and drivers are literally on every corner. If one of them thinks you are 'his customer' he will basically stalk you, and get the other drivers to leave you alone. By day 3 I had to practically shout at the guy (not fun, because he was otherwise quiet & friendly) just to get him to leave me alone. Try going for a stroll around town on foot and see how long you last.

Where to go:

Pick up a free 'Out & About' pocket tourist guide in any bar, which is full of all the usual maps & lists of shops/massage places/hotels and bars. Unlike some other countries I could mention, be aware that most massage parlours / spas are quite legitimate (and therefore good), but do not provide 'adult services'.

Sorya Mall (near the Central Market) has lots of chains I've never seen before. To a jaded Westerner it's not the 'incredibly huge mall' it pretends to be, but it is cramped with shops and gets absolutely rammed with locals at times. PP actually has quite a number of upmarket clothes/books/music stores but they seem to be quite spaced out all over the place, so the guide is invaluable. I never did get to the big Central or Russian Markets. They looked good, but the traffic around them is insane. Be aware that the difference in prices between 'tourist shops/cafes' and 'local shops/cafes' is quite stark. I would often be marvelling at how cheap everything is, only to get well-and-truly stung on a panini and latte (London prices! ) at a posh riverside cafe. And do try the national dish Amok which is a fragrant bowl of steamed meat or fish with coconut milk; quite delicious.

Also, you must see Tuol Sleng (Phnom Penh's Genocide Musem). About $12 for entry and a personal guide, which doesn't last long but you won't get as much out of the tour otherwise. I had scant knowledge of the Khmer Rouge at best but I was almost crying by the end of the tour, until I got grumpy again when you have to go back through the handful of beggers and touts just to get out of the gate.

I ignored all attempts to get me to pay for a 'Killing Fields' tour once I learnt that the fields are numerous and all over the place, and that the journey can be 2 or 3 hours away from Phnom Penh (on a pretty uncomfortable tuk-tuk or. God forbid. Motodup). There's also not much to see when you get there (and little or no shade).

Girls:

For girls, best thing is to go to one of the pool/music bars (Sharky's is probably the best. 1 block north and 3 blocks west of Bogie & Bacall, a 5 min stroll if that) and find a freelancer there (I paid $15 ST for a very limber hippie-chick who was being very sexy & cheeky at the bar).

But the finest freelancer I got was a very cute 19-year old called Rani from a music/pool bar near the waterfront ($50 LT. A lot I know, but she was so damn cute and I figure part of that price was to stop somebody else taking her first). A very fun couple of evenings drinking and playing pool with around 20 apparently very young girls (16/17+) and cool music too, until I found out the next day it was on a loop. It was very quiet when I was there. Maybe 8 girls per customer!

Ignore driver recommendations. One night I asked my motodup driver to take me somewhere for a massage (wink wink). Only about 3 blocks from my hotel he got lost, and eventually found a place in a neighbourhood of what looked like embassies and posh houses that looked like it was already closed up for the night. Went inside, paid about $15 and was led to a room. No choice of girls (it was late, but before midnight). The girl who came in looked okay so I showered and lay down, but after 5 mins of scratchy massage with her fake nails while she texted her friends with her other hand AND was watching TV, I thought "screw this", got dressed and stormed out looking like thunder. It was a good five minutes on the journey before I realised I should have screamed at somebody to get my money back, but I had already terrified my driver and was in no mood to do anything but go back to a bar and chill.

A day or two later (having fired the first driver), a super-friendly tuk-tuk driver eventually wore me down while I was having a beer, and I agreed to let him take me to find a girl. He drove into the backstreets between Sihanouk and Monivong to what looked like a building site but was in fact a Vietnamese sauna/brothel. I've never been anywhere like it before or since, which makes me think it was somewhere that only usually sees locals. It was really weird inside, more like being in a tiger cage at the zoo (all concrete & tiles & corrugated roofing and breeze-blocks). I went into a small room where the 15-or-so girls lined up, almost all looking like they'd rather be somewhere else, and picked the only one who smiled at me. Small, plain, brunette, and totally un-ethnic looking (she could have been Russian by looks alone). Not one of them spoke a word of English, and didn't seem to understand Khmer either. Went into a small room (bed, bare lightbulb, small trolley with a towel) and then into an adjoining cell with a hosepipe and water bucket for a wash. Took all my clothes in a bundle with me. I'm naive, not completely stupid. I forget why but I wasn't in the mood for FS so had asked for just a $10 massage and (you may think I'm an idiot) but I'd agreed to shout the driver a screw as well (locals pay $10, or probably less actually). The girl was sweet enough but had no idea what was going on, and I remember getting increasingly mad that she seemed to have no clue how to massage, and nobody (the girl, driver or Chinese punk-looking young guy running the place) had any comprehension of what massage oil was, or was for. At one point my driver offered his tube of hair gel to use! One thing led to another and I ended up sitting on the bed stark-bollock naked. All of us in the room. Shouting at my driver, him shouting at the papasan guy, and he and the driver shouting at the girl. In the end I could see I wasn't getting anything near an acceptable massage out of this and would have an equally hard time getting any money back, so I demanded FS. For which they managed to get another $10 out of me on the condition that I would kill my driver if I didn't enjoy myself. Luckily it was the one thing the girl was quite good at. Showered and left, virtually dragging my driver out by collar (I'm not even sure if he bothered to take his trousers off). Fortunately by the time we got outside, my driver (a total BS artist) had made peace and we were friends again (he really was quite a funny & charming guy) and my mood was much improved because there was a fresh/chilled green coconut stand outside charging local prices (about 5p per coconut). You have to laugh. But after we got back to my hotel I did refuse to pay for any of the tuk-tuk fare, which he couldn't help but agree to.

Massage:

Unlike some other countries in the region, Cambodia (and Phnom Penh) are packed with legitimate spa/massage places. Be aware that most do NOT provide anything resembling adult services, but you will instead find the quality of the massage far superior to any happy-finish parlour you might have been to. On the riverside, I particularly recommend "U & Me Spa" (Star Royal Building, 383 Sisowath Road). Lovely girls offering truly excellent massage, and believe me when I say I've had enough massages to know which is which. They also offer manicure, waxing, sauna and other treatments. After various perfunctory and badly-trained massages (and varying levels of naughtiness) in Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok, the difference is like night and day. The blind massage place a bit further along the riverside is also highly esteemed.

In summary:

Phnom Penh can be a great stop-over if you get up late, relax by the riverside, get a massage, go and see Tuol Sleng, and spend a few nights with a cadre of cuties in one of the pool bars. But there's not much else I found to do, and the locals might drive you bat-shit crazy.

Does everyone get shots before the go to Cambo? Are they really needed?

Yeadon563What shots you need depend on where you are going, how long you are going for, where you expect to eat and how adventurous you are.

I have travelled far in to the provinces, I prefer to eat locally and stay in cheap guesthouses.

I agree that HEP A and B should be on the cards. It you are the careful type you might stop there. However as soon as you leave PP it can become hard to get a cold beer, they are often hot served in a glass of ice. Typhoid is calling. If you have seen the kitchens (next to the toilets) most of the truck stops where the busses take breaks you also know that Typhoid is an issue.

Remember even if you have Typhoid vaccination you can still catch it, so take care if you are travelling in the provinces.

Finally I usually take Doxcylen when I travel. It is preventative against Malaria it also happens to be the treatment against Chlamydia. Although you get condemned in this forum for even thinking the thought of having unprotected sex I would suggest (although it could be purely coincidental) that it would be part of the reason I have never contracted; syphilis, gonorrhea or Chlamydia while travelling in Cambodia.

If you are planning to go to PP stay at Flamingo hotel, have your breakfast in the Walkabout, lunch and dinner at the riverside restaurants and stay for 5 days to a week I would do very little. The only shots I would suggest are the small shots served in small glasses in bars around PP and maybe HEP A and B only because it generally is good to have especially if you are in to rimming and DATY.

Overall, don't ignore the risks. If you do not get the shots do take some care, and even if you do they do not all cover you 100%. Good personal hygiene, covering up against mosquito bites in remote areas etc are good practices. From experience I can tell you it is worth while avoiding Typhoid it can really make you sick. In my case intensive care sick! Typhoid is spread by eating shit. Often shit particles will be in the water or ice. Don’t deny yourself the experience of the real Cambodia including eating questionable stuff, it is part of the fun, just try as far as possible to stick to cooked food.

Have a great trip.

Good report by cepu with a few innacuracies. The killing fields are about 30 minutes away and do indeed have shade, lots of large trees including the one that the babies heads were smashed against.

Tetanus shot is a good idea but I would never worry about anything else.Intestinal parasites are everywhere especially in food in the markets, that is the biggest risk i would say.

Lots of massage joints with fishbowls if one knows where to look but barangs are not really welcome so these places are not really shared by barang residents with outsiders.

Do you remember the name/location of the music/pool bar where you picked up Rani?It was at one of the hostess bars in the line-up on Street 51. Might have been Pit Stop or Howie Bar, which are either side of Heart of Darkness. I've just realised that St.51 is probably well known on here already because it's only around the corner from the famous Walkabout Hotel, which comes highly recommended in the 'Hotels' thread.

In whichever one I was in, there's a blue pool table at the back with a laughably low ceiling and special half-cues for shots when the walls aren't wide enough. A couple of TVs playing foreign football matches, pop music, and a load of very friendly girls waiting for tourists. I think they're all similar anyway.

Sharky's (#126, Street 130) is bigger and usually livelier, with a load of pool tables, a lot more guys (if that makes you more comfortable), and a wider mix of freelance girls. Decent fast-food / diner menu as well.

But after we got back to my hotel I did refuse to pay for any of the tuk-tuk fare, which he couldn't help but agree to.I laughed at this but you should have considered yourself lucky that a friendly tuk tuk driver offered to take you to a local place. I hope you haven't put him, the brothel's papasan and the girls off dealing with barangs in the future. It's difficult enough as it is to find these places. Most drivers just want to take you to all the tired old barang places like Sharkeys and Martinis. You should have just been polite and gone along with the FS. Thanks for the funny story though.

Well, that scenario clearly falls under trafficking which is a seperate issue that this. I was responding to the statement that it is illegal to travel abroad for sex, even if of age, as defined by the above legislation. Clearly it is not illegal to monger, as the above wording doesnt even imply such.

Thats all =)I understand the Senate version may be looking at changing the language, but, indeed (I have been researching this thoroughly) the first version of the bill passed by one House does make any kind of mongering by an American in a foreign country illegal.

That I am sure of.

Phnom Penh can be a great stop-over if you get up late, relax by the riverside, get a massage, go and see Tuol Sleng, and spend a few nights with a cadre of cuties in one of the pool bars. But there's not much else I found to do, and the locals might drive you bat-shit crazy.

so let's see - IF I live in Nevada, it must be unlawful as well?

Just so we understand each other, aside from CLARK and WASHOE counties, P4P in NEVADA is "legal" (expensive, but LEGAL)

Cut the BS folks - the bill had to do with MINORS, not P4P n general. They have more important things to worry about than a money exchange

i'm about to wrap up my newbie pp trip of three weeks. thought i would pass along what info i could. many thanks for past posts in this thread that helped greatly.

phnom penh is pretty easy to navigate because all the streets have numbers as well as names. here is a good map that shows a lot of the bars and hotels. http://www.canbypublications.com/maps/ppmaphhr.htm
btw i'm using a 15 inch laptop with a screen resolution of 1024 x 768. when i say something is an inch on the map it might be a little different on your screen.

if you come straight down from wat phnom (upper right) you will see street 51 (between norodom blvd. and street 63). if you come down 51 to 174 you will see walkabout (hotel, fl in bar) on the map. up and to the right just a little is flamingos on 172 (popular choice for a hotel) and about half an inch north of walkabout you see heart or darkness (disco)(hod) on 51 on the map. there are a few bars rep001tered around the block where hod is located.

the central market (phsar thmey) is the huge building with it's four large wings. street 63 appears to go right into the building. the building is much larger on the map than actual scale. if you look at the wing that points east toward the river right next to it you will see crycee (st) and mikado (st) on the map. mikado is one block west of norodom on 136. once you find it no problem finding le cyrcee. note: as of last night mikado is still closed from a raid a week ago. hopefully it will return soon.

if you go east, toward the river, about an inch and up just a little from cyrcee you will see sharky's (big bar/restaurant/hangout place with fl) on street 130. it is slightly closer to norodom than sisowath (the street that runs along the river).

the large north south street to the left of the central market is monivong blvd. if you follow it south past sihanouk blvd. and look over to the left just a little you will see street 350 (not directly connected to monivong). you will see martini pub (outdoor restaurant/drinking/disco/fl) on the corner of 350 and what appears to be called street 95/97. but just ask a driver to take you martini’s. be warned you will get drivers that don't understand anything you are really saying but will nod their head, say ok and pretend they know english. before going off somewhere you don't know how to actually get to you might want to test your driver’s english ability. i've had to point the way for a few drivers who had no clue what i said but nodded when i said where i wanted to go.

if you take street 178 all the way to the river all those happy pizza places will be there on your left. also a great mexican restaurant named the cantina is in that area. not far from all the pizza places there is an atm that doesn't charge the $2 that the anz atms charge foreign cards. there is an obvious sign that says 24 hour atm or something like that. there is also a no fee canadia atm on the first floor of the new mall. it is a free standing atm and is right next to the canadia bank branch located in the south building of the mall (not under the dome). also there is another fee free atm about one block east of sharky’s on the other side of the street. btw atms dispense us dollars in cambodia and most everything is paid for in us dollars. since my card charges no fees at all and the atm charges no fee i sometimes run my card three times at $40 a pop. so i end up with $120 in $10 bills to avoid having to break $50 bills. if your card charges fees at your bank the $40 thing won't be good for you but at least you shouldn't have to pay the $2 foreign card fee like with anz. plus it’s not that hard to break $50 bills but you might have a problem at some smaller places. btw there are several anz atms around if you don't mind paying the $2 fee. including one in the lobby of the flamingos hotel.

most of the hostess bars near the river are easy. i wish it was as easy to know which girls will go and which won't. the bars basically start with one or two on street 102 and go down to about street 148. i would say the main concentration is on 104 (zanzibar, bar 104, etc) and 136 (bar 69, bar 136, etc). but almost any of these streets could have bars within a block of the river. up near 102 there are some bars on the first street off the river that is parallel to the river. so all you really need to do is figure out where you want to start. it is almost impossible to get lost and safety doesn't seem to be an issue. i sometimes start at sharky's to eat and check out the fl. but there are so many good restaurants along the river i often just head straight over and eat and then start hitting the clubs. often i wander back to le cyrcee or mikado for a st and then head back to the hotel (flamingos) or stop at one of the little bars on 51 just before the hotel and have a few drinks.

oh and lets not forget sophie’s everyone's favorite and most interesting bj bar. it is upstairs at the corner of 53 and 118.

a note on hostess bars. some of the girls will go out with a customer and some won’t. it is up to you to figure this all out. but after a while it becomes easier. hey i usually just ask. several girls will crowd around you when you walk in and start giving you a back rub, etc. that is their job and don’t feel obligated to buy lady drinks, etc unless there is someone you really want to get to know better. if i spend a lot of time with a girl i usually buy her a drink or give a little tip if i leave without her.

i intentionally left out shanghai bar as no one i know had any luck getting a girl out of there (yes i know it can be done but the odds aren’t great imo). i also don’t frequent the viet brothels. as one poster stated earlier the girls look like they don’t want to be there (do they have a choice?). that makes me feel like i don’t want to be there so i just avoid these places. again, up to you.

flamingos is a good spot to stay for mongers. but i personally don’t care much for the fl action at walkabout or hod so next time i may try and get near the river. lots of places to stay near the river, just make sure it is ok to bring a girl back to your room.

I guess that from what I've read, my experience at Shanghai Bar was not the norm. I went in a couple of times just to have some beers. One of the better looking girls approached me both times, and we chatted for a while. I asked her if she wanted to have dinner. She said yes, and made plans with me on her day off. So, no bar fine.

On the night of our date, we had dinner, and afterwards, she took me around to different bars. She told me what most here say...that most girls at Shanghai will not have sex with clients, but only go out somewhat like we were doing at that moment. I figured that nothing else would happen, and decided just to enjoy the evening with her.

We ended up at the bar at my hotel, and soon afterwards, went to my room. She stayed almost the entire evening. She claimed that she had only had sex with two other men in her life, and both were serious boyfriends. She didn't charge me anything; she didn't ask for anything.

I didn't see her for a few days, and finally received an email. She said that she had been sick; apologized, and hoped we could see each other soon. By this time, I had become involved with someone else, so I never did see her again.

After eight nights Mikado is still closed and Le Cyrcee is still take out only. Went by a little after 11 last night.

On the Shanghai thing we had a group of five in there for a few days and nights. We were staying at Flamingos and Walkabout so that was the meet up place. A lot of the day girls just flat told us they don't go out. I have a younger friend who usually does quite well in Thailand and PI. He had no luck in Shanghai. He talked to the manager who pointed out a few girls that he said weren't married or in a relationship. I also heard a story about a guy that had a girl finally go with him after he came back for his second trip. It obviously can be done with work or maybe luck. But too much hassle for me for likely no results. We tired of the place and moved to a different meet up place. FWIW

Got the low down on the latest crack down the other night. Sophies is closed, LCC now has no rooms.

Seems that the mikado were making videos in the rooms when the boys arrived, cost for the owner will be 60 to a hundred K.

Things may be back to normal after new year, but maybe not.

Seems that on a recent visit the queen of spain gave money to HS's wife to close down the obvious targets.

Of course business as usual at most khmer joints.

Went to shanghai the other night and bought drinks for several girls including a real honey. But most are after something long term, not interested in the blow ins.

The WoTW website may have played a part as they actively posted videos of the mikado girls in action onsite on their paysite. Dumbasses.

Wait, so the queen of Spain made a request that Le Cyrcee would stop giving blow jobs and FS on the premises but rather offer take-out only?* I have to say, I admire the woman's attention to detail, though not sure she's come up with a comprehensive solution.

* I can picture the negotiation session on this one: "OK, here's what I'll do, I can't give 3 million, but I'm going to make it 1 million, and rather than shut it down completely, how about if we just close the backrooms, alright? So... what do you think, Mrs. Hun... do we have a deal?"

I have been to one on 63rd on corner with 174 I think, but little bit more towards the central market. It is a hotel with $4 massage advertised outside.

One girl is actually very good at massage (thai standard). Just ask the boss for a girl that can do the job properly.

I then paid $10 for sex, I know maybe too much, considering this can be had with a beauty from walkabout, if you get lucky. But after a thirty min rub, its hard to say no. Don't be tempted by the 5000reil places (which actually cost $3) off 51st street past Heart. The girls are rough as hell, have no idea how to massage and want to finish you after 5 mins of massage. They are pig ugly too.

Info Request from me.

I have read reports about viet ran brothels on 63rd. But that road is huge, can someone give me an actual location? And typical prices please (not tourist rates).

By the way, doesn't PP have tyhe chicken farm equivalents of Sinouk and KohKong (5 bucks a pop/$7 for nicer hotel rooms)? If so, where!

Hi,

I will be in PP next week.. can somebody of us tell me where I can find a nice massage with special services at the end?

ThanksGood massage and special services do not normally go hand in hand in Cambodia. THey either have a good massage with no real service (possible HJ) or a service posing as massage. Stick with Thailand for the best of both worlds.

Best massage you'll find in Golden Tower (casino/hotel) next to Olympic stadium. Daytime $4 for real sauna and 1 hr body massage and very high class facilities (think fold out LCD's at each foot massage chair kind of high class). $8 in evening. Ask for a Chinese girl and please tip the girls at least $3 since they only make 50% off the massage.

For services posing as massage there are plenty enough every block. Luck of the draw there and my luck has always been shit quality of service. The odds are always against you finding decent service or quality of girl. Tip is they always ask for 30-50. Don't be a shit and give it. 10-20 is fine. You can fuck cute girls around the corner for 5-10.

Phnom Penh: mongering field report (March 08)

To repay the kindness of all the guys giving me advice on this website about mongering in PP, I decided it is time to come up with a field report myself.

Thanks also to the guys who run this website for all their work and one idea: Why not give out free one year membership to guys who offer substantial reports in order to enhance the actual information content of this great website. At this point there seems to be a great deal of insubstantial gossip going on. Lets concentrate on what we are here for.

INTRO

The river promenade is all dug up now, not a very nice location to stay anymore as a big fence is blocking most of the river views.

I stayed around capitol guesthouse, decent fan room for 5 $, safe, clean, best if you put your own lock on the door like at Narin II. Why spend more? Gives you more money to spend on pussy.

Easy to get a sim card now, just go to Sorya Market with your passport and biz card of your hotel, hand over 14 $ and you get 2 month validity and 5 $ talk time from "Hello"

Streets: improved a lot over the past years, most dirt roads are replaced now by surfaced roads.

BARS

Manga Bar / Love Story / Dingo Bar: all closed

Happy Man: bunch of not very pretty but friendly gals, mostly Khmer

Golden Vine / Vodoo s. Th. Bar: same, lots of girls, ok pretty, barfine and fuck them for 10 to 15 $

Cyrcee: bunch of horny little girls, can feel up their cunts on your bar seat, very pushy to get you to fuck them in a short time room.

Sharkies: 8pm, empty, 10 pm next day, more guys than girls, very average mix of Khmer and Viets

Heart: lot of Westerners, some Khmer/Viet hookers, some local girls that can be fucked, they seem to like everybody, who can pay a drink.

Some western cunts parading around, luckily they realize they loose their power in a place with so many Asian hotties.

Mikado: tried on two different days, always closed (police lock down or s. Th.)

Martini: maybe still the best place, choose your girl without much interference from Mamasan, although some older cunts try to act like Mamasans to squeeze more bucks out of stupid white man, just ignore them.

Famous Sophie: police closed it for now, too bad, always nice to have your cock sucked for 1 $ on the bar chair.

There is something boiling up in PP, the police makes it harder and harder for us to monger, pressured by the West with the threat to cut down foreign aid, should this stay a mongering heaven.

BROTHELS

63 STREET

Hard to find now, they don t call you in as a Westerner, had to use a moto to find them. When you come from Central market, one place on the left, house number 63 or 69. Total rip-off, agreed on 7 $ to pop a hot Viet ****. The **** insisted to hang my trouser next to the door. I insisted to have it on the back, then the **** insisted to massage me looking away from my trouser.

Does **** think I am so stupid. I guess it works with some stupid man. **** realizes she can not steal from my wallet, so she refuses to be fucked at all, forget about the massage, I force my hard cock in her pretty little ****, and leave that place quickly. Waste of time.

One more place on the right side, number 99/63, decent choice of Viet ****, didn’t actually fuck a girl, but some pretties.

136 STREET

All seem closed, one place let us in after banging against the iron gate (10 $ Viet cuties, no girl would suck)

294 Street down to the river, at the very end. A bunch of low grade brothels, offer some Cam pussy. Some look pretty young, offer me very young pussy. Might be a ploy, don’t know, maybe trapping stupid falang, you finance the Khmer police big time, if you have to bribe your way out and you finance those fancy SUV of the Western morality NGO police cunts. They just caught one of those hypocrite child protectors molesting a 10y old. Why would you wanna work with kids anyway. That probably being the main reason.

TOUL KHOK

Lots of small roadside brothels, got two pops for 5$ each, (they asked 10$) my moto driver got it for less. Qualitity varies a lot, some aids infested girls for sure, some hotties too, guess the cheapest option in PP.

STREET MEAT

108 street towards Monivong, some girls, a lot of Khmer guys too (pimps? ) very dark, looked dodgy, didn’t check it out

Sorya Market up to 63 street, some hookers pimped by young Khmer lads, asking ridiculous 20 to 23 $ for short time. I passed.

From Independence Monument down to the river, lots of locals at dusk, chances to chat up some local girls.

More experiences:

**** 1: Martini, very pretty, 10$, sucked and fucked well, even pretended for me to enjoy it by making some noises and faces.

**** 2: Martini, little thing, pretended to be so innocent, but then body full of stretch marks and pussy wide and loose. Would not suck. Send her home without any cash, no performance, not reward, didn’t feel like a mercy fuck.

**** 3: Martini, not very pretty ****, but said would let me fuck her arse for 5 $, then in the room, no sucking no arse fucking, I kicked her out with 3$. She hammered at my door for 15 minutes to get more money out of me until hotel security finally removed her. Got to teach those cunts to perform or walk.

SUMMARY

Yes, the good old times are gone, for sure. It's still cheaper than Thailand, but the quality of the services is very unsteady. Lots of dummies overpaying the cunts. Monthly salary for a girl is 30 $ in a restaurant or other service industries. Locals pay 3 $ per pop. Stupid white man pay up to 30 $ per pop and teach the cunts to rule the world like in the West. Treat them fair, but don t pamper the girls, I see their attitude worsen every year. When I came here first, pussy happy delivered their services, some stuck their tongues up my arse, just to please me. These times are gone, they learned quickly from us Westerners (and Japs), who are being brainwashed by Western pussies, that their fuck holes are so special. That is what Western **** is teaching us to believe and what we happily buy into.

I have been to one on 63rd on corner with 174 I think, but little bit more towards the central market

- about two more blocks towards market

It is a hotel with $4 massage advertised outside

- hotel 'bun' , something like that. The massage is for an hour , and in a private room on ground floor of the hotel. About 20 girls to choose from behind glass wall. I have tipped just 2 or 3 dollars for plain massage- had no complaints from the girls.

Note that there is a hotel/guesthouse under renovation next door called Sov Pak. Its full of Cambodians coming and going at night on motos. I went upstairs one night but the guy at the desk said 'no'. Every time i look around someone says 'no' - you can't come in. Its definatley a brothel as saw lots of girls sat around upstairs.

About my request for chicken type services in PP. i would travel a little bit outside PP if needed. Just don't know where!

Several people have said PP has gone downhill lately. I first went there 12 years ago, and yes, the quality has gone south while the ages have gone north. However, what's the alternative? Bangkok is getting so expensive you may as well stay at home, and Pattaya isn't much better. Angeles City is still relatively good value, but prices are shooting up there as well, and the quality isn't great. At least prices in PP are still low, although personally I can look around all evening and find nothing worth grabbing (but the hunt can still be fun!). Can't understand people talking about 'supermodels' at Walkabout : unless there's been a revolution in the last month or so, you gotta be kidding! The only lookers in there are already with guys.I haven't seen a good looking girl in Sharkey for 5 years. The best looking girls in Shanghai don't go with customers. In Cyrcee, Sophies and Mikado I can't fight off the mob who surround you long enough to pick out a cutie (if there are any). On my last five trips, I haven't taken anyone except from Martini. If you want a place that's pleasant, still cheap and not hard-nosed, try Vientiane (Laos).

Check out the latest advertisement from World Vision in the photo section under same report name. http://www.internationalsexguide.info/forum/showthread.php?p=725126#post725126

This appeared on the back page of the latest After Dark magazine. I am told that it has a very subtle mesage referring to the bars of a jail but I needed that explaining to me as I really thought it was, at least in part, referring to the Bars that had advertised in the magazine I was holding.

I am not the only person to misinterpret the message and I am told that a small delegation of bar owners told the Editors that they should desist from such messages if they wanted their continued custom.

The text relies on the picture to convey it's message and if the text is published in isolation it will become increasingly difficult to justify a mongering trip to Cambodia.

The other World Vision ads I have seen conveyed a mesage from the picture and were quite obvious, but this one frightens me more than a little bit.

Phnom Penh is still a city in which you need to take care; just ask the guy wandering around the Flamings Hotel today with his head bandaged up and being taken to Bangkok this afternoon in order to have it checked out fully.

It seems he was returning from Martinis on motodup and they were jumped. He was robbed and is feeling the worse for the experience today.

These incidents are not common but they do happen. The suggestion, quoted previously, to stick to known drivers may be wise to heed at the moment. For the sake of a few dollars it may be worth ensuring your safety by taking a moto from outside your hotel and consider paying for them to wait for you.

I have tried to avoid the Flamingos motodup drivers as they always want 3x the standard rate and we always part with neither of us being totally happy. I recently posted the number of a motodup rider, Someth (092285158), together with his business card and will vouch for him 100%. He, and his friend Jenda (092633627) both base themselves at Howies on an Evening which is a short enough walk from Flamingos to use them regularly. Consider giving them the business and being safe. As before, mention my name and I may get a free trip on my next visit.

Walkabout Hotel is on the corner of street 174 and street 51. If you walk up street 174 for one block you come to Street 63. If you turn left on street 63 and walk one block you come to street 178. If you continue walking for a half block (on the left hand side) you come to a small alley (or drive way, which is about 15 feet wide). On the corner of the alley and Street 63 is a place called Cafe Trang Ngyuen (or similar spelling). It has a white front, and a big double door opening. Usually a fair number a girls, some quite cute, and I have never had a problem with them putting my pants at the door so my pocket could be picked. I usually pay $10, up-front. Once I paid $15.

check out the latest advertisement from world vision.. it will become increasingly difficult to justify a mongering trip to cambodia.. this one frightens me more than a little bit. nanahawkwhile there have been some high-profile cases in recent years (gary glitter being the uk's particular shame), i refuse to believe that your average, respectful tourist/monger is going to accidentally collide with the depraved & indefensible end of the **** sex industry. just stick to the popular monger/massage haunts and stay away from the concealed, strangely high-security & high-priced ones! if you're still not sure, ask to see her id before you take her anywhere. you can still change your mind if you're not convinced. it's not rocket science.

it should be obvious anyway, but the nasty paedo/secretive end of the market also charge a lot more for the service, so always stick to girls who are the normal rate!

also, never wholly believe a single source of the media/ngo on anything without getting some perspective on 'the bigger picture' from other outlets:

http://www.phnompenhpost.com/index.php? option=com_content&task=view&id=207&itemid=52

most notably (from the article):

..however, instances of ****philia by westerners represent a small percentage of sex crime in cambodia.. "the government is keen to say westerners are the problem but in reality cambodians are the biggest problem,” morrish said. “most of the population is khmer; it is khmers who own and frequent ktv and karaoke bars and brothels.”

I have spent enough time in Asia to understand fully how the scene works but am pointing out how World Vision are saying things that we should all be aware of. It is these sort of statements that make it more and more difficult to justify trips to Cambodia!!

After a quick chat with the guy who was robbed it seems that the situation was a little more concerning.....

Previous advice in the city has always been to 'never resist' and 'just give the mugger what you have' but on this occassion there was not any request for money and, after being stopped, he was struck from behind and left in a pool of blood.

I'm thinking that the couple of 'big fellows' that work from Walkabout may begin to get more business so as to provide further peace of mind. (Seriously one of these guys is about 6 1/2 feet tall and looks a little strange on moto!).

No idea how the injured guy is but he did get off to Bangkok safely.

Yes, it is a shame what is happening in PP! It is a shadow of what is was in just as recent as 2003. Too many tourists, overpaying & posting on the net. As far as the WebSite 4 WOTW, it contributes to the decline, but those vids at Mikado were shot & posted long ago...most of those gals in the vids are long gone. I know cause I have my own vids of these same girls, many of them shot upstairs at Hope & Anchor Guesthouse (back when it was called "Mikey's) in 2003. The gals were fine, young & naive...I remember having to help them put on the lingerie, before I pounded them, as they had no clue how to put on lingerie. Oh, the memories!!! I was there just last Februrary & found the pickings pretty slim..never took one there, but did slam a nice Muslim Gal in LCC. I will be back in a few months, till then...Good Luck Guys & Happy Hunting! D1423

Yeah, it seems so following this thread here.
Myself also had lots of fun in PP, roughly 2001-2003, last visit in 2004.
Since then I've never been back again.
Not worth it anymore compared with other Asian places.

Good luck to all visitors!

went to a massage place near martini's. not a bad place at all. i walked in, they asked if i was there for a massage. i said yes and was shown a room. i was asked if i wanted viet or khmer. i opted for the viet girl. the room had an elevated area with a mattress, sheets and pillow, aircon, tv, and a bathroom with shower. 1 hour massage was $8. if you wanted 2 hour then it was $7 per hour.

about 5 minutes later the girl came in. she was very, very pretty. 25 yo about 5'5" and just right tits - not too big and not too small, with nice nipples. i had to go to the bathroom 1st and [CodeWord116] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord116). i finished but there was no toilet paper. she started the shower for me and then cleaned my ass of the [CodeWord116] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord116) with soap and water. my kind of girl ! !

after shower, she dried me off and we went to the mattress. she started to massage me but i stopped her and started kissing her instead. got her clothes off and continued dfk while my hands roamed her tits and pussy. after she was wet and moaning put on a condom and mounted her. her pussy was perfect, not too tight and not too loose. fit my cock just right. did mish and doggy with her and then came.

a little snuggling, talking, watch a little tv, and a light massage before she started sucking me to get me going again. this time just straight mish as i wanted to just pound that beautiful pussy. so stayed 2 hours with her. $14 for the establishment and i tipperd her $20 because it was a great gfe. i went back a few days later and did the same. i plan on making her a regular when in pp.

NanahawkSorry NH. Perhaps I'm having a dense moment then, but I'm not sure what you mean about having to try any harder to justify a Cambo trip? I got here yesterday for a break from that terrible Thai holiday that is Songkran, only to find that the Khmer New Year is the same damn dates.

136 - dropped in at about 10. I don't think I'll ever come here again. It's not as bad as Shanghai bar, but it's still pretty bad. The staff are pretty hot, and I started chatting up this 23 year old hottie named Tina (or maybe it was Tia). I buy her a drink and we go in the back for a more intimate chat, but chemistry just isn't there. Her bargirl friends kept coming in and sitting with us so it was nearly impossible to talk with her alone. After an hour of bullshit, I got up and paid the bill and left. Never again.

Le Cyrcee - walked in around midnight. I wanted some lovin from my Viet girl, Junto, who is a complete nympho. To my dismay she had gone home the week before. Her friend was there (also a Viet) but she was a real ***** so passed. This other Khmer came up to me - her name is Sofia. 22 years old, hot body. We kissed a little, but the french-kissing wasn't too deep. Since you can't bang these girls on the premises anymore, the prices have gone up:

ST: BF $4, $20 to girl
LT: BF $7 $40 to girl

The lovely Sofia told me that she'd tell the bar that I would only take her ST so I only had to pay $4 BF. I said sure and off we went. We got to the room and she told me that she had to go at 5am. That isn't long time, I said. Well, I wasn't in the mood to argue, but I told her that I wanted to do it twice. The sex was just okay. BBBJ, but she kept treating my dick like a lollypop, and wouldn't got past the tip. I did feel her come when we started going at it, but I sent her on her way after one pop. I just didn't feel like watching her watch tv for a few hours while I waited for another pop. Gave her $25, which she seemed okay with.

By the way, Le Cyrcee is closed tonight through the 17th because of the New Year, and 136 will be closed tomorrow. I imagine a lot of the other bars are doing the same, which is a shame.

Two more legitimate massage places:

Golden Towers or Town? Hotel/casino. Ask moto to take you to Olympic stadium. Its the large cream coloured building.

3 dollar foot, 4 dollar body, 5 dollar body with oil (recommended). I tip 4 dollars. Best masages I have had in PP up to now. Had both Chinese and Cambodian girls. Nice private rooms, proper massage tables, trained girls and you even get wrapped up in half a dozen hot towels at the end.

Next time I'll go for the 2 hour oil (8 dollars). It's that good.

Nearby have atlantic club/spa. Massage 6 dollar, oil 10 dollar. Went in but was directed to a communal massage room so I declined.

I don’t know whether the Asia Hotel is girlfriend friendly or not.

I recommend the Asia Palace Hotel. This hotel is girl-friendly. We stayed here for three nights in February and there was no problem to take a girl for the night.

The Asia Palace Hotel is some 100 m away from the Asia Hotel. We booked via Internet http://www.asiapalacehotel.com.kh/En/Promotion_En.aspx
(three nights for 105 $) At this webpage a “Free airport pick up” is announced. Unfortunately, no driver appeared at the airport. In the hotel, nobody knew about this service. I spoke with the manager and he agreed - after showing him a printout of this webpage - without discussion to reduce the price of accommodation by 10 $ (the price for the taxi)

The hotel is clean and quiet. The stuff is friendly. The rooms are equipped with AC and one safe (combination lock). Breakfast is included, but not a great think.

Other hotels I read about to be girl-friendly are Flamingo (close to Walkabout, you should know it) and Good Luck Hotel (same street as Asia Hotel and Asia Palace Hotel)

FYI, I was picked up free by Flamingo's bus last time in PP but the wait was long cuz one hotel guest apparently missed his flight, and we waited a long time til it was obvious he wasn't there. In the meantime, I was feeling impatient and asked normal taxis how much to go to the hotel. They told me $5.

The taxi drivers outside Flamingo, btw, ask for $8 to take you to the airport, which is the price the hotel will quote you.

The moral: negotiate. The going rate for locals obviously must be less than $5. So just tell the driver "$4." If he comes back with $10, then say "Last month I pay $4. I pay $4" and see what happens.

It's a free market. Those guys at the airport look forward to getting more from foreigners and people with money than they would elsewhere, fair enough -- but there's no reason we can't also use our bargaining power like locals do. Eventually you'll settle on a price that's acceptable to both sides, and if you're not too bothered about paying a bit more, if he's a decent negotiator you probably will.

Hi Wendella,

The argument I've heard in the past, from various hoteliers, is that the higher price is justifiable as they have full insurance cover and the cheap ones probably do not. Is this totally true, I don't know, but it makes me think twice before opting for the cheapest option around. Quite strange when you consider that I'll spend the majority of my trip on the back of a motobike where there is zero insurance and much more insecurity!!!

HawkThere is no such thing as insurance cover for taxis. In fact, almost everything in Cambodia is not insured because most people are not aware of its importance and even if they do, they cannot afford to pay the premium. Insurance companies only started offering their polices in Cambodia two or three years back and most of policyholders are still Western educated Cambodians and big foreign businesses. Even the car rented from tour agencies are not insured. EVEN MOST CARS ON THE STREET ARE NOT INSURED. No Cambodian motodup can afford to buy insurance coverage and will not bother to even if they can.

And FYI, just like insurance coverage, most electronics sold in Cambodia are sold without any kind of warranty. If the shop ever entertain your complaints, it is out of sheer goodwill or the desire to uphold whatever reputation they may have among its customers and NOT BECAUSE they are legally and contractually bound to. In Cambodia, it is caveat emptor. From the moment you handed over your money.

AtLUCKY FELLOW

There is no such thing as a non girl-friendly hotel in Phnom Penh. From luxury Cambodiana, InterCon to budget no-star guesthouses, I have never heard of any cases of guests being prohibited from bringing any guests, female or male, to their room and my friends and I have been to many of them. Unless there are some hotels that are operated and funded by NGOs, which I didn; t know of, and can afford to operate at a loss, no hotels in Phnom Penh can afford to or risk gaining a reputation for being difficult as most visitors to Phnom Penh are mongers and lonely businessmen who almost always got lonely at night.

I'm sorry if this question might deviate from the norm here, but when I go to Bangkok, I always find that good tasty food is the perfect prelude to a nice night out. My last trip to PP was a bit below par because I stayed at the Walkabout and their food was very much catered to the Western appetite. When I ventured out to the street around the Walkabout, I noticed that the food being served was unrecognizable and therefore a bit of a turn-off. Is there any hotel that is either in close proximity to good food or has a good kitchen that churns out tasty Khmer food?
Or is there such a thing as good Khmer food? Or did the Khmer Rouge destroyed good food as well?

security is a "bit lacking" - aside from the front desk, what security is there at hotels?

spaceman - there are some acceptable Khmer restaurants over on street 19 north of street 172 on the corners of the intersection - maybe a couple of blocks. English menu, or "point and ask" works well. Prices are a bit better in Riel than $$ (but not much - the difference between 4060 and 4000:1)

Surprised that you are really finding this a problem. There are many many places in PP that serve up great K grub. For upscale try the Lemon Grass I think it is on 136 or just one over from Sharky's, but it is very expensive for Cambodian standards.
I would recommend trying the local pot lucks down by the Central Market. You may squirm at the conditions and enviornment, but the food is very good both in flavor and value. In addition go outside the fold and experiment.

Hi Al,

the best Khmer food has always been available at the Pon Lok Restaurant on Sisowath Quay and there are many hotels along that stretch. The food covers all tastes, and some that I struggle to see anyone having, and it has a great location with the option of 'balcony' seating with view over Tonle Sap. The restaurant is popular with all sorts of people from locally rich Khmers to tour groups and the service is generally very attentive due to the large number of staff.
I would always recommend someone to at least try the food here as, even if you might not like what is on offer, you can be sure that it is cooked well.

I find Khmer food ordinary compared to thai, khmers have lok lak, sour soups and amok.

They don't like coriander or fish sauce and they are not foodies like thais, which is a good thing i think.Thais would rather die of starvation than eat non thai food.
I would suggest avoiding ponlok at all times, they have a reputation for padding the bill and indeeed they ripped us roayally when a group of us went there recently.
For much the same price one can eat at the beautiful bopha/titanic,the only place actually on the river, opposite street 108.

For good western food in a lovely bar try the new cadillac bar on the riverside.Soon to open is bill and bobs guesthouse and bar with genuine southern food and a spa on the roof.

Just opened is the new boutique hotel the quay with stunning, expensive rooms and a small pool and bar on the roof-and no other drinkers!

OK value in the happy hour.

We are off to snowies tomorrow night, still PPs best bar mainly because no one can find it!

Hi QH,

I do not believe that there any such rules but there do appear to be some new laws to prevent trafficing for prostitution. Try looking at

Cambodian-Foreign Marriages to be Allowed Again Soon
By The Mekong Times

The temporary ban on marriages between foreign men and Cambodian women on March 29 should hopefully be resolved soon, officials said yesterday. Drafts of two sub-decrees stipulating the rules for weddings between foreign men and Cambodian women will be reviewed for a final decision in the near future, said You Ay, secretary of state for the Ministry of Women’s Affairs.

A meeting yesterday at the Ministry of Women’s Affairs saw the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International cooperation and the Interior Ministry discuss the new legislation with international organizations and development partners.

“We want to collect all views to consider and listen to the concerns of the relevant people and record their recommendations” You Ay said. She did not specify when the sub-decree would be released.

The new sub-decree on Cambodian-foreign marriages came after widespread criticism of wedding agencies accused of [CodeWord908] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord908). Korea and Taiwan were alleged to be the biggest culprits.

A recent International Organization for Migration (IOM) report slammed increasing Cambodian “bride exports” to South Korea. In 2007, the number of marriage licenses issued by the Korean embassy in Cambodia rose to 1,759, up from a mere 72 in 2004.

Cambodian government officials have claimed that seven Cambodian women fled Korea after suffering abuse, an allegation rejected by the Korean embassy. Korean embassy officials complained the IOM report misreported facts.

“All weddings [are from] free will which depends on the legal procedures of the two countries,” said Shin Hyun, a South Korean diplomat, in a recent statement. He denied any Cambodian women had been trafficked to Korea using false weddings.

Kek Galabru, director of human rights group Licadho, and Ros Sopheap, executive director of the Gender and Development Organization, both said that banning Cambodian women from marrying foreigners violates international law and women rights. Both stressed that the education of Cambodian women intending to marry foreign nationals was the best way to proceed.

“Some of [the] 5,000 Cambodian women married to Taiwan and Korean men are being mistreated,” Kek Galabru claimed. “It is good that the government cancelled the licenses of marriage companies. This measure can prevent the trafficking of Cambodian women, but it contrasts with the international law or Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women [CEDAW] that Cambodia ratified in 1992.”

Tried to get Mr Sam to p/u at airport he says ok, he no show, no biggie, plenty taxis. Billabong hotel. All good. Get in early, 24 hr trek ready for massage. Ask desk guy if cute 18 yo can come to room for massage, he said he'll try. 15 or so later he says can get but more like 30yo. Kudos to him for not wasting her or my time, I say no thanks, he says ask tuk tuk man out front. I do he says 20 minutes. 1/2 hr later I get call walk out front there he is w/pimp on motorbike & scarey as hell looking girl on back, face painted w/white war paint, I say no thanks. Time for a walk, central mkt hot, riverside sweaty, stroll thru town stinky, Walkabout- thought I'd gone thru a wormhole into BG soi 7 as familiar patrons were there. 1 very beautiful girl there that I would do, playing pool. Another punter makes his move, he is smooth, he is turned away. My smiles towards her get me no love. A few others there but pale by comparison. Call Mr Sam again see if he'd like to cruise & we do. Street 110 bars we go to 3 before I find my girl, back to room. Nice time there, have pics but posting doesn't come easy for me. Next day take her shopping at air con 6 story mall on 63rd s of central market. Many beautiful girls there & I go there a few more times that week to cool off & see if any other girls might like to go shopping w/me no joy but I'm not terrribly forward either. Get motorbike next night to take me to find GF. Convenient locale on 63rd, #99 I think, on w side, nondescript but marker board w/many #'s near door. Go in maybe 25 viet ladies some cannot come to room w/me some can. 30 st, 70 all nt, I'm not in the mood to haggle. Take away. Not the best but much better than nothing 22yo, nice rack cute patch needed dentist, friendly, decent english, I've done worse. Next late morning I go back now maybe 5 or 6, not for take out so wtf I try st there. Girls body smokes 5', 40kg, 32 or 34 C's, 19yo, works for me. Room on 3rd floor was not good. Unsanitary, hot, only fan. She wants me to lay down for massage, ok. I lay on back instruct her to work on front as I want to watch her now nude bod. She wouldn't have it. Her way 10 min of unpleasant back chops was more than I needed. I roll over ready for yumyum, no no, she will not. So I break a sweat pounding peach fuzz. Hate to complain but that could/should have been remarkable but wasn't. So I like to walk I did so every day, numerous bars. 1st nights girl did not want to repeat claimed to be sore down there, me too big, she hurt, maybe so but I didn't return to Happy Man after that. The viet shop just s of Billabong st on 63rd was just too convenient & had ladies more appealing than most at the 2 dozen or so bars I checked out. Good visit overall, now back to BKK.

Ultra pilot,

Try The Manga bar street 110 PP thats always got woman.

Mr Sam only deals in tourist attractions.

I am amazed that taxi drivers don't seem to know good bars.

I don't know who for sure driver may have been subcontractor @ Mr Sam, voice seemed different on different occasions on phone and there was misunderstanding @ my p/u even tho I called from BKK w/flt info. So we did OK, thought I saw Manga was closed. Maybe we were on 108 at one point, several in the Happy Man area. Walked around several bar areas many just walk in walk out. It was interesting, would be fun to make rounds w/someone who knew the ropes, whips & chains. Motorcycle tour looked like fun.

Had a good look around last night starting with a birthday party at the cadillac. Moved up to 104 and did the rose which was very busy but the girls not too flash, nightowl was a revelation.

Propositioned the lovely young thing with sparkles around her eyes and a protective older friend. She cannot go, she is a virgin!

There are several there apparently, this girls mum is the cleaner!

I offered six hundred bucks but even this amount was not enough-crikey, she wants a husband.

Moved on to the zanzi where a quite attractive girl agreed to go, dranka couple of lasy drinks and then demanded fifty bucks, and this is at one in the morning! False pretences I would say.

After having a complete dud from the zapata the other night maybe I was lucky to have saved my money.

Other bars of note were the shay and bunny bars.

Called into skankabout on the way home-dreadful.

I have a rendevous this afternoon with a young lady from the LCC, she worked at sophie for two years so she should have earned a gold watch at least-or maybe a gold something else.

I have booked a 10-night stay in Phnom Penh in the summer. I normally stay by the river front but Im very concerned that the river front (my favourite bit of PP) is under repair and so would not be a good place to stay.

I had considered the New York Hotel but reports suggest it is dirty etc.

I considered the Villa Langka or The Pavillon. (I dont mind paying $70 for a good room). Does any one know what these hotels are like (they get good reviews) and what there 'girl policy' is. (are all PP hotels happy with taking girls back). I plan to go wild and find myself a beautiful girl for each of the 10 nights.

I was sorry to read about the closure of Sophies and Mikados. I have had many wonderful encounters in these.I have aso had many excellent three girl events in the LCC. I have fond memories of encounters on he uge bed on the top floor!

I know it is cheap by Western prices but I have always looked after the girls and am sick to death of the hypocritical attitude of white women in the west. If white Western society is so good why is crime so high, families so fragmented and quality of life so poor?

I hope so of the old PP is sill there when I arrive in the summer!

there is no such thing as a non girl-friendly hotel in phnom penh. from luxury cambodiana, intercon to budget no-star guesthouses, i have never heard of any cases of guests being prohibited from bringing any guests, female or male, to their room and my friends and i have been to many of them. unless there are some hotels that are operated and funded by ngos, which i didn; t know of, and can afford to operate at a loss, no hotels in phnom penh can afford to or risk gaining a reputation for being difficult as most visitors to phnom penh are mongers and lonely businessmen who almost always got lonely at night.i've been in the bouganivillier hotel last november - big mistake. hotel is small but nice & clean, but building next to it was under heavy reconstruction when i was there.

from 8 am to 5 5p you couldn't hear yourself think.

making things worse they had a "girl only with id"policy.

i first thought that to be not really enforced and believed it to be some form of defense against guys fooling around with **** girls - boy, was i wrong. they really required id from all girls, and most girls in pnh do not have an id card.
there's another hotel - forgot the name, its at the end of sisowath quay at the corse, something with a. almost entirely booked out with ngo staff, also not g/f friendly.

I'm going to Thailand next month (have my places there) and then on to Cambodia again early July.

I read that Manga is closed. What about Cyrcee & Martini. Still in business?

Anyone a good tip for a chicken farm daytrip out of PNH?

Thanks,

Cambodia is not Thailand, just be safe.Channy,

I'm aware of that. Every now & then I do take a girl to the room, and since I always take a room with safe and made a habit out of throwing everything in the safe before going to bed I guess I'm ok. My laptop has a security chain and I do not make pics of girls. I never had any issue so far, however, I also make clear to hotel receptions that I do not condone any visitors without being asked. Worked for me so far. I generally do not wear expensive watches when travelling and use a 7 year old mobile.

I always wipe the touchpad of the safe and check whether it's accessible from the back, plus I usually put my wallet in a sealed envelope. May sound paranoid, but again, never encountered problems.

I of course agree with you, Cambodia isn't Thailand. But since I do not stay in the really cheap outlets, tip hotel staff appropriately, keep away from anything which looks under 20 and refrain from taking girls where I have to do hard bargaining I can avoid a number of problems.

I do not drink from open cans and do not use drugs or meds, but I actually feel more comfortable in my own hotel room than in some cheap outlet.

BTW, most hotels in Phnom Penh do not let the girls leave without giving a call back to your room. A pretty good and basic safety precaution.

Kenny,

Could you explain what you meant by wiping the touchpad? Do you mean electronically clearing a master combination?

ThanksNo, although that's possible, but I do not carry an EEProm-writer with me ;-).

You have to realize that most electronic safes have only a 4-digit code. You simply use a bit of powder and you can see which four digits the guest has used. For this reason I simply wipe over the touchpad with a moist cloth.

The 2nd weak spot is the "Administrator code" which the hotels have - you'd wonder how many guests forget their code. For this reason I put my wallet in a sealed envelope with my signature over the opening. That will prevent someone taking SOME of your money or copying your cards. Especially in Cambodia such tricks are probably not frequent, but also not unheard of.

Leave your wallet in the secured safe when you go mongering or out to twon - 50 $ in the pocket and two fifties in hidden in my belt always have gotten me through the night ;-).

Remember: What isn't there can't be stolen, and getting your credit cards stolen in Cambodia could prove a VERY Costly problem.

If you pay by credit card try NOT to lose your card out of sight. Cards are copied with a magnetic card writer for 70 $ from Radio Shack in 20 Seconds, any much harm can be done with such copy. Try to get a Credit card with Chip - that's a good safety precaution and the Chip is hard to forge. Fraudsters usually prey on easy victims, they don't like to make more efforts than they have to.

Stay safe,

Kenny

I stayed there about 4 years ago and upon check out was hit for $300+ mini bar/fruit/snack charge (I was there for one month recovering from dengue fever). I balked at the charges, as I had only consumed about $20 of goods(max) during my stay there (there is a large supermarket just down the street, and I had walked there everyday, rather than pay the exhorbitant prices in the hotel room).

On my way to use the payphone (just outside the front door) to report this overcharge to the tourist police, I was body slammed to the floor by two security guards who held me until the regular police arrived. I was hauled to the nearest police station and forced to sign something written in Khmer. I then was forced to hand over $200 to the hotel manager (a compromiose I suppose, as he was unable to produce for the police ANY signed guest mini bar chits/slips.)

Then, to add insult to injury, the same two cops who wrote up the incident showed up at my new hotel (just down the street from the New York hotel) the next morning and demanded $100 each, so as not to deport me!

A couple of things could have caused all of this: 1) maybe there was a dishonest room maid who was taking things from the room and charging them to my account (but she never had me to sign the receipt, per hotel policy), or 2) greed on the part of the hotel staff/manager, as they knew that I had over $8,000 in the hotel security box.

At any rate, I wrote it off to experience. At least they didn't take my money from the security box!

The NY hotel is a nicer 3 star hotel in PP. I stayed there 2 years ago and didn't have any problems. The staff are very freindly, and free airport pick up with 3 days stay .

Kenny, you need to know this city is still under development. There are not many options for 4 star hotels. This is a very poor country that needs tourist money to rebuild. If you want 5 star resort, go to Bali or Thailand.

I was there recently. It's a little intimidating to walk into a room full of young pretty women who all scream out "Welcome handsome man!!!!" when you walk through the doors. Definitely some doable girls there. But as per usual, I found one of the bar staff to me the most attractive. Are they available?

This place is a little hard to find during the day. I must have walked by it a few times when I was looking for it. At night it's lit up so is really easy to find.

Maybe they get paid the little extra cash so they don't need to go with customers.

Fast Eddie 48Eddie,

Thanks for the feedback. I know Asia pretty well, what I complain about is not the lack of "amenities" in the 5-star intallations (they do have everything they should have) but the compared to other Asian destinations worse service with higher prices. Usually 4 and 5 star hotels have exporbitant service. Not in PNH. I found some 3-star much better in terms of service. And LOL, I am going to Thailand to relax (well, mainly. And to PNH for mongering. So as long as the hotel is g/f friendly and halfways clean with Internet it'll do. As a worst case scenario I would always relocate to the Interconti which is not great but acceptable.

Still, compared to the Bangkok Evergreen or even the Bangkok Interconti they suck.

I'm not sure what you mean by "recently". However, I've been here in PNH for about a week now. When I visited Cyrcee I didn't find the girls too attractive. Granted, everyone has different tastes. I'd rate the ladies from about 4-7 at best. I did see one semi-cute working girl who was a bit sassy (but all in good fun); but you're right about the bartending staff seeming to be a bit more attractive.

The girls promplty surrounded me as soon as I got in but I only stayed for one beer.

104:

Went there last night (a Friday night), I saw about 12 girls in the bar around 9:30. About 5 ladies were dancing on the bar and it was a very upbeat mood. I'd rate the ladies about 4-6. But very friendly.

Casa:

For those of you not aware, this is a disco night club. I walked in there around 9:00 pm and it was a ghost town. I was the only customer in the entire club. Kinda creepy. Walked in and right back out. Maybe it was my timing?

Coyote Ugly:

I killed quite a bit of time here by having a chat with the owner of the bar (about 3 hours!!). A semi-retired Vietnam War vet and a helluva nice guy who's got some stories to tell if you've got the time. However, if you're on the hunt, I'm sad to say that I couldn't recommend it for now. But who's to know because bar's change so often? The bar ladies are about 4-6 also but very friendly and this is a totally non-pushy environment. You can just sit down have a beer and relax. They serve great burgers too!

Sharky's:

There were a couple of cuties in the bar. But over 90% of the ladies were "ugh"!! I'd strongly suspect that the best looking ladies in the bar are either taken or often taken out. The ladies (among my wanderings around town) have the highest age ratio compared to the other places. In other words, some of these ladies should be sitting at home knitting sweaters. Sheesh! I'd say that the ladies playing pool were the better looking ones.

Walkabout and Martini's:

Strangely enough, I'd say that at this particular point in time, Walkabout and Martini's have the most presentable ladies you'd be willing to take out. Martini's has had the consistently better looking ladies but some of them (not all) migrate over to Walkabout or Heart of Darkness after 1 am or so. I'd say that the ladies in Martini's rate from about 5-8 depending on your preferences. The ladies in Walkabout are generally from about 3-7.5. But I'm hesitant with Walkabout ladies since they are so easily picked up because of their location and get taken out more often than say Martini ladies. Or maybe that's just a biased opinion of mine?

Heart of Darkness:

Over the past 3 nights I've been there, it's been a real dud. It was packed last night (Friday) but I didn't see any available women I'd wanted to talk with. Generally, my view is that the place is packed with women who are already either taken or just looking to hang out but not worthy of wanting to take out.

On a side note:

I tried the legendary "Happy Herb Pizza". Apparently, if you want the 'happy version' you have to specifically ask for it or it just comes out regular. I ate a medium by myself early in the evening but it totally zonked me out. I went back to my hotel and passed out for about 6 hours to wake up at 12:30 a.m.! :( Was an interesting experience, but in the future, I think I'd prefer to smoke mine thank you.

Anybody of you guys seen her recently or know what happened to her?

Her name is Nod. She is (was?!?!) a pretty good pool player and had been around Walkabout for a couple of years but during my last stay I couldn't find her anywhere. She was heavily on ice but who of the girls isn't. Certainly I asked some other girls but as anyway if she's not around nobody seems to know anything.

Casa:

For those of you not aware, this is a disco night club. I walked in there around 9:00 pm and it was a ghost town. I was the only customer in the entire club. Kinda creepy. Walked in and right back out. Maybe it was my timing?

Casa is a spot that wouldnt' get going until much later than that, and these discos go in and out of fashion -- not sure how popular Casa is these days. I've seen it packed in the past, and also empty. But if it ever does fill up, it'd be 11pm and after. I only stop in PP for a few days at a time every year and a half or so, so I'm not up on current trends. My last time in PP, it was dead (Jan).

Good observation regarding Martini/HOD/Walkabout. The main lesson there is that the hottest ones will be at Martini early on, and probably get taken from there, and the leftovers will be in HOD/WA later. Generally. There's always exceptions (like the hot one who does an early ST and then goes to HOD afterwards, etc). When I was there, Martini was starting to clear out around 12.30 to 1am, and lots of familiar faces from there appeared at HOD and WA right after that. Mine included. ;-)

Are there any hotels in PP that do still have fishbowls? I was at NY Hotel in Sept. 2006 and wasn't even aware that they had massage on the 7th floor (hey, I wasn't feeling well and I wasn't in town too long, ok?). I'm heading back this Sept and would like to know if there are any in-hotel massage services that make it worthwhile to stay at a particular hotel.

Thanks

New York Hotel has no fishbowl longer, 7th floor is only breakfast now.

On 5th floor wi-fi work fine for me in room.

(I stayed there in april 2008)

remember the old line about not paying them for activity but paying them to leave? Seems that some have the attitude that $20 short time is the going rate and won't leave otherwise. Now I got a bit stupid, but not overly - figured that for 1 hour $10 was good enough. She wouldn't take it and when I finally got her out of the room and started down the byatch went back into the room (evidently forgot to latch the door lock) and went into my bag (again stupid for not locking it) and grabbed about $15 ones and maybe 10K real. I guess it cut into my food budget a bit. The "real" money was locked up. safely

anyway - Handle this "issue" the easy way - get dressed and tell her g0ing out for food - then hand her the money when both out of the room. I know better but I wanted to bust her chops (trouble is that as hot as I was would
have likely done some real damage to her). Hotel did a strip search of her but no go (no cavity search - I think she shoved up up her ****) not a lot of money, just an annoyance. fucking cambo thieving ho's

Another scam seems to be that they want to do your laundry now for however many $ they can get for that (not worth a whole lot in PP - laundry all over)

So she got her money and I almost did something I would have regretted (as in "bust her up a bit")

room rates - flamingo - $25, Chiplay - $13, Walkabout $11 to $18. Flamingo has free internet for residents.

chiplay has a lift.
walkabout stairs are a bit of a problem

I don't know how regular you are in Phnom Penh these days, but rates have risen -- there aren't many girls (not that I can find at least) these days willing to go to your hotel for $10 ST. To assume that this is fair market rate, well, doesn't seem like a fair assumption. I don't know where you met this one, which might make some difference, though I don't know any places where $10 is standard now. Or any girls who'd be fine with that much.

Myself, I agree on the price beforehand -- knowing that if I don't then there's a fair chance she'll ask for something ridiculous afterwards, and if I don't pay her that much, then there's a good chance something even more ridiculous will happen (like her getting loud and screaming to make a scene, or worse, like in your case). I'm not into screaming matches in the hotel hallways or whatever.

I don't know any places where $10 is standard now.I stayed in PP again from nov. 2007 to mai 2008 and my average paying was around $10 picking mostly girls (I knew before and girls I didin't know before) from martini and walkabout. Unless they asked me I never agreed on the amount of payment in advance. If they started by asking 15, 20 or more I said 10 plus 2000R for moto plus drinks/food in my room plus if I took them late at night breakfast somewhere around my hotel. Worked out in around 90%.

However some girls rejected me completely the entire time.

You're right Wendella. $10 is not the "going rate" for ST in PP and hasn't been for a very long time. If you don't agree a price in advance you have no right to impose the price you think is fair on the girl. If you want to have a go at negotiating for $10 upfront then good luck to you but the suggestion that Dinghy comes up with sounds like trying to scam the girl and could get you into a lot of trouble.

Definitely in PP you need to negotiate the price in advance and in places like Martini $20 will be her opening shot and you can counter with $10 and agree on a price in the middle. The oldies would probably agree to $10 but I can't say for sure as I avoid them. If you want dirt cheap there are plenty of brothels all over Cambodia where you can still get it for $5 but that's definitely not the going rate for bar girls or freelancer girls in PP.

Wendella,

At Martini's, how much are the pretty girls demanding these days? I can get an ugly one for $10/ST but in my opinion, I would be over paying.

Last summer at Martini's, an 8 in my book wanted $40/LT.

Do you ever venture outside of the barang scene like Holiday disco or Club 99?

Thanks in advance...

Well, I'm only ever in PP for a few days at a time, once or twice a year, if that. So I'm not the one to quote for prices. The last girl I met there wanted ... are you sitting down?... $70. She was really hot though. (and now you're REALLY not gonna quote me for prices!) I watched her for awhile in Martini's -- one guy after another approached her, each leaving her alone after a short chit-chat. Apparently she was sticking to her price.

Anyway, that is NOT the norm, I'm pretty sure. I can't say what kind of girls would go for $10 -- maybe we're just lousy bargainers. Or maybe they're different types of girls. Hard to tell without seeing pictures of them or something.

From what other guys wrote, sounds like Martinis girls are asking $20 ST, but will go down a bit if you can bargain well. In general, that is. You won't get the one I mentioned for $10, and I'm sure there's others (most?) who won't go for that little.

Martini and Sharky's has usually been 15 to 25 for hotel long-time. A quickie in a nearby hostel usually goes for $10 indeed - plus $5 for the hostel which doesn't make it a bargain.

It is wise to have a particular Mama-San who takes care of your needs. I have one at Martini's and she has always served me decently.

I try to stay out of trouble and would advise any fellow mongerer to do the same. Whilst you can easily get her thrown out of the Hotel you will likely head back to town and PNH is not the place where you should p*** someone off, at least not unless you can avoid it.

I usually pay $20 to $25 for a night and if the girl was good I don't mind to pay $ 5 or $ 10 as a bonus. You may accuse me of spoiling the market, but if you treat a girl with decency she will likely match you with a g/f of hers for the next night. If the girl seems to despise me after Mama-san introduced us I go for something else, there are plenty of goodlooking girls willing to do a real GFE job.

Although it may sound trivial I can just say that I always try to treat the girls with some dignity, that has always worked for me.

That said my second advice is to take stories told by the girls with the mandatory grain of salt. Whilst much may be true I've heard too much about sick next-of-kins to awake the do-gooder in me ;-). It comes down to a decent payment for a decent service, if you bargain too hard you may end up with a service which isn't worth it. Just my 2 cents ;-)

And, mind you, the average salary of a policeman or Teacher in Cambodia is $ 25. So it works for both extremes. A real hottie may easily demand $300 a night and get it, provided that she caters to the clientele willing and able to pay that much. There's still corporate credit card business in certain areas, not to mention the special needs of our Japanese fellow mongerers.

Last December I met a good-looking 22-year-old girl in Heart. I'd had too much to drink so I asked her to come to my hotel the following evening. She wanted $20 but I told her, "$10 or no deal," and she agreed immediately.
She told me she usually sticks to Martini but had accompanied her friend who was to meet somebody there.

I'm glad I hadn't agreed to pay her more than $10. Although she had a really pretty face and nice figure, she turned out to have saggy tits and stress marks when she came out of the shower. Mind you, when I asked her in Heart if she'd had children she told me she hadn't.

The service itself, however, left nothing to be desired. There was no rush, she was very enthousiastic, and was singing in the bathroom after the deed :)

Mr. Roger,

Good advice about mainting a cool head. Phnom Penh is a tiny town and word gets around fast. If you get a bad reputation, the girls will avoid you like the plague. For example, most Khmers and Vietnamese try to avoid doing business with the Nigerians because of their business habits.

For Other People,

When I'm at Martini's, I pay the Martini rate but when I'm at Club 99 or Holiday Disco, I pay their rate.

Every time I visit Phnom Penh, I always talk to the bar manager(Martini's) who happens to be a lady and a wealth of knowledge. One day, she and I had a conversation about the average barang monger, and in her opinion, the average barang can't differentiate between a good looking asian lady and an ugly asian lady. Hence, the average barang is unwilling to pay a higher price for the cuter girl.

I've also have become 'friends' with a few motor scooter guys who work in front of Paris Hotel located on Kampuchea Krom. They pretty much agree with the Martini bar manager. By the way, these same guys wanted to introduce me to a factory lady who was a parttime working lady. In fact, they wanted to introduce me to her as she was leaving the factory. I passed but there is always next time. Why am I telling you this? Maintain your good REPUTATION. If your reputation sucks, your selection will be limited or shut off completely.

Most barangs seem happy with women with saggy tits and stretch marks and girls who generally take no care of themselves. Personally I'd rather spend $20 on a better looking girl than $10 on an ugly girl. I was once talking to a barang about prices and he said he had a "gorgeous" girl for $10 and I asked him if she had a baby and he replied he had no idea. To me it's obvious whether a girl has had a baby or not but most barangs don't care about slim waists, small nipples and firm tits.

All over Asia you see Japanese, Korean and Chinese guys with the best girls. Some barangs complain that they're driving up prices but in reality they go for a completely different type of girl so they'll never be a shortage of ugly or very average girls for $10. The Asian guys are less worried about keeping prices down so end up with the best girls. In Manhattan Club the girls want $50 a night and the Asian guys are willing to pay it. For your money you get a girl (early 20s or younger) with a pretty face who takes care of her appearance, has no babies, has a slim waist and firm tits and gives you a good service.

If only paying $10 is really important to you then fine but don't think everyone is going to be happy with the sort of girl you can get for that price. You pays your money and you takes your choice.

Quite remarkable!Nice one! You missed my point though which was that the guy I was talking to had already slept with the girl and couldn't say whether she had a baby or not. When a girl is naked it's very obvious whether she has had a baby or not. A lot of barangs though can't tell or don't care.

As for making your choice in the bar you don't need X-ray vision because most of the girls with nice bodies like to show off as much as possible (including their tummy) because they know they're worth more and want customers to see it. If in doubt just ask.

No hard rule about that though -- I mean not all girls who haven't had a baby would wear tummy-revealing clothes. So using that as your guide, you'd automatically eliminate plenty who haven't had babies. I know I'm not gonna limit myself to the belly-showers only, so for me at least there's always gonna be some element of luck involved. And yes you can ask, but whether you get an honest answer is, again, a toss of the dice. Maybe they tell the truth, maybe not.

I've spent three weeks in PP and here is some information I hope to contribute to this great forum.

Cambodian working girls are different from their Thai counterparts:

Cambodian girls are more shy. Many will not give BJs and many are even too shy to show you their breasts. They will cover their breasts and even refuse to take off their tops. Very shy. On the other hand, I found most have not had babies unlike in Thailand. Perhaps due to their more conservative thinking?

GoGo bars are also quite different. In Thailand, pretty much all the girls can be Barfined. Not in PP. If a bar has say 30 girls, maybe 13 of them can be barfined for boom boom. Most of them are there just to make the $60 standard salary and $1 lady drinks they get which usually add up to about $80/month on the low end and anything up to $200 for the really smart socialable girls. However, you can still barfine them all for $5 each, but they will only go drink and dance with you, no boom boom.

The pressure to have to buy the girls drinks is also much less in PP compared to Thailand. They will rarely blatently ask you for one. Which is a good thing. They will hang around you, just be a charming guy and be nice to them. I really like this aspect about PP.

104st, 108st, 136st, all have lots of bars. My advice is to have a beer in each and see which one you like. They change all the time and the girls move from bar to bar to work. Drop in, and have a good time and see if any girls like you. Afterall, when it comes down to it, its like the sperm and the egg. The egg ultimately does the choosing.

Sharky's - Nice quiet bar with many pool tables. You will find more freelancers here on Friday and Saturdays because they can't go into Heart of Darkness (due to the $3 entrance charge to the girls).

Heart of Darkness and Walkabout is where I spent most of my time. There are also many good bars around it like Howies, Blackcat, Shanghai and Pitstop.

Heart of Darkness - I love this place. Great decor and music and lots of freelancers. Drinks are resonable with Anchor beer and Tiger draft at $2. Pool table in the back. You can meet all sorts of ladies here and if charming enough, some will even stay with you for free. Also you will meet some rich or professional girls here looking for a fling sometimes. My only caution is that it can be tough in here for some guys as the girls here can be quite picky looking for handsome young guys. But many girls here are top notch on looks, so give it a try, I also liked the atmosphere and have met a lot of cool guys whom I ended up going to other bars with together, always more fun than going alone. Don't go before 11pm.

Walkabout - A good quiet pool bar with cheaper drinks than heart of D. A good place to wind down, sit on the balcony upstairs, shoot some pool. Dozens of freelancers in there, some can be picky, but you never know, girls want different things at different times. Staff is laid back, no pressure.

Howies - A great safe haven. Pool table, friendly girls albeit not the best lookers. But a great place to hang out and feel comfortable. Play some connect4 or just meet other travellers.

Shanghai - Loads of girls and nice looking place. But girls can be lazy and just chat away themselves outside. Their manager whips them to work, and its funny to see!

Food is generally very good in PP. You can almost randomly drop into any restaurant on the riverfront and find good burgers and pizzas. Under $6-7 out the door each meal. Local food places are great too, couple dollars and they usually are fair with prices unlike Vietnam. Take a girl that you like and have her take you to her favorite local eatery, always fun to do and you'll probably find some good cheap food.

Alley Cat cafe - Great burgers, but a bit hidden, not easy to find.

La Croisette - come here for the free wifi. Just order a drink or some food. Very comfortable to sit inside and shields you from the people trying to sell you things outside. Staff is courteous and wifi connection is strong. Love it. Five stars.

Green Vespa - Great Irish bar, kind owner. Good food.

Ba da Bing - fair pizza with good toppings. Delicious english sausages on their 'sausage pizza'

Sorya Mall - Good supermarket downstairs. Good food court upstairs. $1.5 a meal. Try the japanese/chinese hot pot place on 6th floor. Great views and the special menu is a great deal.

Paragon Mall - Nice mall, fair japanese restaurant upstairs. Good supermarket downstairs.

ATMs generally charge $2 especially the ANZ atms. But go to Sorya for the Canadia Bank atms. No charge there. There is also a bank on 130(?) three blocks from the riverfront that doesn't charge a fee.

Many massage places around. I didn't try the uber expensive places like Golden Towers or even U and Me spa. The $6 places are fair, with tip $8 damage. But there are many 5000riel places around and I would advice not to write them off. Give them a try. With a tip, its $2 out the door and the massage can be quite decent, just try around for a good masseuse. At $2, you can't lose.

Tuktuk drivers are not pushy. Just politely shake your head when you don't need their services.

Khmer I find to be a harder language than Thai. Saying the simplest require multiple syllable words.

Getting to the point, Cambodiana has its own girls (and they are perfect for you $100.00 bucks a pop) and because of its own fishbowl they do not allow girls to come in. Try the basement.I'm making my first trip to PP in a few days, just one night, and will be staying at the cambodiana (no choice). Is it really true that the hotel has a fishbowl? Is this is the "Guide to Guest Services" or something more subtle?

I'm still reading the board for other suggestions, but am all ear for any one night "can't miss" tips. I'll be there fairly early on day 1 and don't have to leave until midafternoon day 2. There seem to be some good tips on bars to hang out, ogle without too much pressure, and perhaps take out to a nearby safehouse.

Gents,

Searched the forum, but no mention of the above hotel. Anyone know if it's girl friendly. Coming home at 1.00 a.m or so with 2 or potentially 3 girls in tow.

Help appreciated I'll be there on 13th, 14th June
Never been in the Amanjaya, but it's usually booked solid with NGO staff. You'll see the white Landcruisers parked upfront...

I'm making my first trip to PP in a few days, just one night, and will be staying at the cambodiana (no choice).

BR
Berty,
It's a shame - just one night.... :-(. You'll regret that.
Try not to do everything, you won't succeed.
My advice is: Go to Phsar Thmei (Central Market) in the afternoon and then to Cyrcee's after 6pm or 7pm. Cyrcee's has always been my fav. Give two of the girls a try, a 3some is real good there. Depending on your mood and wants you could look around a bit in 102nd street, possibly make another pop if something catches your eye.
You may want to have dinner in one of the restaurants on Sisowath Quai and have a look through the nearby bars. Happy Man is good (for drinking, not for mongering...).
You can hit Martini's after 9 pm, that's where the action is.
With only one day I'd skip HOD and Sharky's.
Sharky's is best between 11 pm and 1 am.
Cheers and have fun,
Kenny

I don't know about the Cambodiana fishbowl, but it's probably nothing compared to fishbowls in Bangkok. In terms of sheer number of girls available, Martini is the one with the most by a good margin (in a bar setting at least). It's a very big bar with an area of tables in the middle, a bar up a few steps with some stools and 3 billiards tables, and then a separate room as a disco. Dozens of girls -- when I was there in Feb, I'd guess it was about 60 there. Those bars up on street 102 an that area all just have a handful of girls in each. If you just have one night, I wouldn't bother with massage or karaokes or small bars as your go-to place. Martini would fit the one-stop bill. It's easy, its big, comfortable, and you can sit back and watch the girls all walk by and make your pick. No hidden fees or inside info you need.

Agree with Wendella, Martini should be the best bet; plenty of choice, not very pushy, enough lighting to see your picks (except the disco area).

Walkwabout is alright as well but I personally feel the selection at Martini to be better.

Thank everybody. Wendella I recognize from the Viet board. I've been reading the forum, and have a general impression about the follow questions, but I hope I can still ask them directly without getting flamed:

1. Sounds like ST take out at Martini is $10-20 USD. Correct? Is it a bar fine situation? How much? Do they have their own ST room?

2. How about Cyrcee?

3. By moto you mean motorbikes, right? (When I was in Siem Riep recently it was all tuk-tuk.) What's the going rate, say from a hotel on the river to Martinis; having the guy wait while I'm in a bar? airport to hotel?

4. Should I just bring USD? I'm coming from Vietnam and some people tell me they take the Vietnamese dong, which I'd prefer to do because of a quasi currency crisis here (hard to buy dollars). What about just using the local currency? Will they change VN Dong to their currency?

5. I'm a western guy but speak a little vietnamese and enjoy chatting with the girls in their own language. Are viets everywhere, or do some bars specialize?

6. I'm so used to the conservative hotel policies in Vietnam that I'm having trouble believing my hotel (Cambodiana) is GF. What's the drill at the front desk, if any?

Okay, I may be exhausting my good will.

Thanks!

BR1. Yes $10 -20 in Martinis for ST. However, $10 wont get you much of a looker. Maybe I am fussy but $20 is probably more accurate for anything of quality. The nicer ones seem to get taken early and instead of settling for $10 they are willing to hang around for a mongerer with some cash. There is no bar fine at Martinis. Mama sans may ask for a tip, but I usually ignore them, unless they organise me an absolute stunner. There are ST hotels within walking distance and they cost between $5-$15 depending on your negotiating skills.

2. LCC no longer has ST service in-house. They now send you to a hotel nearby. Ive never been. I usually grab em for LT. For ST its $7 bar fine $20 to the girl or $40 for LT back at your Hotel. From my experience BBBJ is a 99% guarantee.

3. Yes moto means motorbike. $1 to most places around town. Ive been quoted $1.50 from the river to Martinis. Double or even triple that for tuk-tuk drivers. At the riverfront there are motos everywhere. They'll find you. At Martinis you dont have to get him to wait, but it might be a good idea if he gave you a fair price. Motos abound wherever mongerers are.

4. The US$ is king. Maybe some local cash may be good for tips. Just get lots of $1 bills. I am unsure if Dong can be exchanged. Maybe the ANZ bank in PP has a webpage.

5. There are definitely Viet only bars in PP. The names escape me, but maybe someone else could help out. Ask a mongerer upon arrival. There are often freelancer Viets at Sharkeys, Martinis and Heart of Darkness.

6. About the Cambodiana I do not know, but Id be shocked if they knocked you back. If they do deny you a night of pleasure with your lady, then check-out! Plenty of other hotels about. I doubt the front desk staff will have any reaction to your mongering at all. Never had a lady asked for ID.

Most hotels and bars have the free PP night guide, which is worth a look for a first timer.

Hopefully some others may be able to fill-in my information gaps.

Enjoy!

1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.

You don't need to worry too much about getting flamed, ding dong the wicked witch is dead, if you know what I mean.

Adding 2 cents to what Luke just said...

1. At Martini, if you negotiate as if you know what the going rate is, they'll pick up on that and not try to screw you over too badly. I prefer taking one back to my own room, which is fine anywhere in PP. Who knows what strange room you'll end up in if you go to some nearby ST hotel.

2. Don't know Cyrcee too well. Been there, not my favorite scene.

3. No good reason to have a motorbike guy wait for you at Martini -- they always have a bunch of them waiting outside there to take customers. I always bring the business card of my hotel with me so its easy to tell a new driver where to go.

4. Bring US$ if you can. It's the commonly used currency there for all amounts $1 and over. They just use Cambodian for change. There are plenty of spots where you can exchange Vietnam Dong for dollars or riel, but the problem is the rate isn't very good going from VND to USD or even to Cambodian Riel (and you don't want stacks of riel anyway, you want $). The exchange places are all around the Central Market - and they usually display their exchange rates on their glass counters, along with bills taped up inside the glass to indicate that this is a money exchange place. With so many around, you can go around and comparison shop for a slightly better exchange rate -- just write down on a slip of paper what you're after (eg VND -> USD) and they'll show you the rate on their calculator. Maybe someone who's actually there in Phnom Penh now might be good enough to find out what the current rate is and post here. My bet is it'd cost well over 18,000 dong to get a dollar. I'll bet further and say that you can get a better rate selling VND for USD at the gold shops in Ho Chi Minh City -- namely those on Cong Quynh street near the market. Use same method as above to find the best rate available.

5. Viets are very common in PP. I'd guess at least half in Martini, Sharkey, Cyrcee, etc are VN.

6. No idea.

Met a very petite Khmer in DV8 named Dahlin about 3 months ago. Shy at first but great multiple bbbj's for $20 LT. She had no phone. Went back a couple of times and couldn't find her and her friends said they didn't know where she was. Didn't say she didn't work there just didn't know where she was. I guess she could have been taken for a couple of weeks by some monger (she definitely would be worth it).

I might put PP on my SEA agenda for next month if I knew she still worked there. If anyone finds her at DV8 or where ever it's worth a few beers at Sharkey's. Let me know.

Thanks guys.

As of this past couple weeks LCC is no longer charging a barfine for STs. Apparently business was just getting too slow.

For ST its $7 bar fine

I am researching for a trip to Cambodia.

It seems like the guys search for the "prized" viet girls.

Questions:

1. Usually the local talent is the cheapest. Aren't the Khymer women the best in terms of lowest price?

2. Are Khymer women of the same quality = beauty + performance (GFE)

3. Why are Viet Woman So Prized in Cambo?

3. Why are Viet Woman So Prized in Cambo?1. Depends on your negotiation-skills.

2. In general Khmer girls are dark skinned - Viets aren't. Many guys say Viets are the better performers. I personally think they are more professional. I never had a Viet girl lying in bed next to me and nothing happened. But it happened MANY times with Khmer girls..... on the other hand I never had GFE with Viet girls - They do the job and that's it.

3. No idea. I don't give Viet girls a premium. Same Same - not different.

There's no hidden treasures here. I don't think it's necessarily that Vietnamese girls are 'prized' so much as that they're everywhere in the westerner scene (Martini's, Sharky's, Walkabout, Le Cyrcee, etc. etc.). They tend to be more hardcore, or professional or whatever you want to call it, than the Khmers -- in general. Myself, I don't discriminate based on color of skin. I just go for the pretty one. ;-) The VN girls in Cambodia mostly flood in from the Mekong delta area, so there's no shortage of them. They're not coming from across the globe to get there, it's just a few hours by bus. Pricewise they're all about the same.

I'd say just go there and go for what looks good. If you're interested to find out how they're different, try one of each.

I just came back recently from there and was also there twice before (but over 2-3 yrs back). Viets are (mostly) strictly business and pros-most wouldn't give you the time of day or even a smile unless you paid them. Unfortunately, from my last visit, most of the local natives (cambo) are also falling into the "business mind oriented BS'"-guess they are all learning from the Viets..-Too bad as I remember the earlier days as being treated like a king for $5.

Just my thoughts.

I was here last summer but it was my first expience in Cambodia. I found the girls here much more shy. Most would not gibe bj. This year it seems that the pros have gone to school. I have had complete service without a rush and making me happy was a priority. Thursday we stopped up at dv8. They still have the pool table upstairs which is a good place to spend time with the girls in a relaxing atmosphere. You can get a good look at their shape and body language. There was a new girl there who spoke very good english, cute as a button. Beer $1.50 lady drink 3.00 bar fine $7.

Off to sharkies. I prefer to walk and thought i could find it on my own. It was an adventure asking where it was and getting various answers. We did eventually find it. Same atmosphere as last year but not as crowded. about 10 I think. Girls kind of latch on to you as theirs and are not easy to shake. I found this to be the case at Martini''s as well. I think the beers were $2. I couldn't remember the name Martini. I kept asking for Manhattan's but no one knew where it was. When I asked for dancing we ended up at Heart of Darkness. Frisked upon enterence but it was upscale and good music. Lots of choices. Spent some time talking with other barang as I continued to play eye games with a girl at the end of the bar. Later I found out that she could not speak a word of english. It did not seem to be as big a drawback as I thought. Spent an awsome night back in my hotel exploring each other. My best one yet! I gave her $20 and of corse no bar fine at H of D.

I agree with the fact that Viets are very professional, but you have to admit Khmer girls are a class apart. Let's look at legs (yes, legs): Viets are X-legged, real Khmer have perfect legs.

One thing I really hate is when Viet girls talk to each other: they have kinda mono-tonal barking dog accent. Wawawawawawawawawawa.

If you go to some 63rd street viet places, please leave your valuable at home, bring just 10 bucks with you, and put them where you can have a look at them.

Viets are renowned to be very skilled and cold-blooded thiefs.

By comparison, Khmer girls are very honest.

Anyone up for providing a detailed (dream) night in PP with location and price info?? If it'll take 2 nights, all the better.

Will be in PP this month (2nd trip), would be great to have some updated info and a dream plan to work! Planned 7-8 day visit, so will be able to do the fly by night bit after getting settled in properly.

Ok, reading previous entries (including 1237).

Sleep until noon.
Walkabout for day time action, shorttime being 10 dollars / 5.00 for a room
across the street or around the corner.
- Walkabout for Lunch.
* Not into brothels, but will see how things go during the trip.
Rest. on Riverside for dinner, local food w/ maybe a burger tossed in.
Martini's after 9 PM, for a look.
Sharky's after 11 PM, for a look.
DV8 after 1 PM, for a look.

For the night, figuring 20.00 LT back to my hotel with a 5.00 tip depending on service would get me a lady in the 7-8 looks category at 95% of establishments. Also, have lady pick the place for brunch as I'm interested in trying all the local food.

Will see how it goes and provide a field report later this month.

G'day fellas,

Was in PP in May and one Friday night in HoD there were about 15-20 black african girls standing to the left of the entrance. There were no blokes with them at all.

Can anyone tell me, would they have been hookers or tourists? Some were very attractive.

I apologise if asking the obvious but im curious as back in pp again next week.

Cheers,

I recently revisited Phnom Penh after an absence of a couple of years, and the place certainly has declined. Last time I visited was soon after the loss of that Wonder of the World K11, and this time I just missed the last days of Sophies. Without these places it is almost not worth visiting the town.

However I did take several Vietnamese girls from Walkabout and one from Martinis, and all provided good service. The Kmers I took from Walkabout rather predictably provided very poor service. Avoid Kmers, gentlemen, and patronize the deserving Vietnamese.

I found it possible to bargain to ten dollars only once (Kmer), paying $15 most of the time. It seemed the Viets were at a premium, but they are worth double the Kmers in my opinion. The girl from Martini was $20 due to the demands of a mamasan, but she provided the best BJ I've had in all my years in asia, and damn near as good as any I've had from an american girl.

All girls regardless of ethnicity allowed bareback intercourse, most without any comment.

We also stopped in at Street 63 where it seemed only two houses survive, at least that we could find. One had maybe three girls. The other had a fair selection, by 2008 standards, but the man demanded $15 and refused to negotiate, so we did not sample. It seems it is definitely a seller's market in PP now - the house was packed with Kmer punters.

So, what can I say, brothers? It does depress one to return to this place if one knew it in its heyday, but nevertheless, I know of nowhere else to get Vietnamese girls for anything like a reasonable price. I probably shall return - hope Walkabout still exists and Viets are still around when I do.

I just returned back from Phnom Penh this morning and agree to what Opebo said; this town ain't the same as before.

I personally prefer Viets though sometimes they can be mechanical too, but this is subjective and depend on how good your screening is.

I took 2 girls from Martini, both from Martini through a Mamasan who seems to have the best of Viet choices there; with a price of course. Ending to pay 20 USD ST which is expensive for standard here.

Will report some more later..
