Anyone know if the Naga Hotel/Casino has Texas Hold'em tables?

Dinghy
07-08-08, 21:58
can't say for sure but the only table games I've seen in Cambodia are ROULETTE, BACCARAT and 21 (might depend on the size of the casino, though - those were KK, Poipet and Snooky. All about the same even with their s-tr-ang- e cutting procedure - dealer, pit and then you last. Might try a casino in PP next trip)

Will hit the casino during my visit, looks like I'll only be playing blackjack.

Would of liked to of use my daylight hours playing Texas Hold'em, saving the nights for mongering!

I went to Naga Casino last trip. nice casino. i did not see any Texas hold them tables there. Mostly blackjack and baccarat tables. You can rent a hostess for the Baccarat action. they are sitting in a line near the tables.
I went at dinner time. you get a free dinner buffett which is very good. Just go and ask for a free coupon.
Nice place to take a girl. make sure she is dressed well. They do not allow local girls unless in a nice dress.
I believe they have a hotel there also. not sure of the prices. some very nice looking P4p girls come there looking for customers. i saw mostly chinese girls there. Maybe because lots of chinese gamblers come there.

Sammon,

Thanks for the info. Especially, that I can bring a local lady (escort for the night) to the casino, dressed properly of course.

How much are the ladies working the casino, assume they are cream of the crop and $$$$$??

All,

I will be in Phnom Penh in 3 weeks from now. I read the last pages, I was there before.

Honestly - what is the best place to go right now (for an inexperienced monger like me) (never been in SE Asia) . No, not Cyrcee or Walkabout or places like this - can it have a bit style, ambience?

Shanghai - ok, was there last year, but - there must be more in this city.

PS.: Is it allowed to pay a bit more for a woman in Cambodia? Not sure, but I think I only get a pizza in New York for the price of ST in Cambodia.

So what nationality do you think are all the people with Phnom Penh license plates at a dozen or so casinos in Sihanoukville and along the Thai border? People often refer to them as Chinese, but they are certainly Cambodia citizen.

Second time typing this (internet access in Cambodia sucks)!

12 July, 0700 Air Asia flt to PP. R/T tickets for 4059. 00, they did get me for excess baggage (1800 baht). I thought it was 15kg per bag, it's 15kg total for check in baggage and I had 2 bags each weighing around 13kg.

Arrive PP Internation Airport at 0815, immigration and customs only took 15 minutes (20. 00 with passport and photo, all paperwork filled out on the flt). 9. 00 hotel driver to Walkabout.

13.00 a night room at Walkabout. Stairs are a pain and rooms have seen better days, but for 13. 00 a night. It's ok. Safety deposit box down stairs, seems fairly secure as place is open 24/7.

10 Walkabout ladies up and down stairs, all were below average. Of course this was at 1000 in the morning.

Rest clean-up and head out around 5 PM, Walkabout now has about 15 ladies available (10 were in the 4-5 scale, 3 in the 6-7 scale and only 2 8's).

Head to Shanghai, over 30 ladies working there. Of the 30, 6 were around the 8-9 scale in looks. Only had a couple of diet cokes (50 cents each), and bought a few ladies drinks (2-3. 00 depending on what they drink, customer price plus 1. 00 added in. Wine was 3. 00 so it cost 4. 00 to buy a lady a glass of wine).

Then headed over to the Pitstop Bar, only 3 ladies available. Two were in the 3-5 scale and the other was a 6. Bartender indicated the rest of the ladies were already with customers.

Finally, headed to Martinis (1. 00 moped ride, standard). It was Saturday night, place was fairly packed. Some really good lookers. Picked up a viet lady (8 on the looks scale, with a good attitude and decent English skills).

She asked for 30. 00 I countered with 25. 00 LT and she did "it's only 5. 00" and I buckled. Worth the price, good time was had Yum Yum and FS all night.

Last night hit Sharky's early, nothing significant to report. Ok, Mexican food was ok and place started to get packed around 9 PM. Left as I wanted to hit St. 102/104. Zaniza Bar, 15 ladies with 6 lookers available (only drinks, I assumed so didn't attempt to do take-out). A little expensive, 3. 00 ladies drinks.

Rose Bar, cheaper ladies drinks. But limited selection of ladies. Maybe 8 ladies working, there was 1 looker (only 10 so far). But she was with a customer. Hit Heart of Darkness, got frisked going in. Place was packed, no where to sit so I departed.

Home ward bound, back to Walkabout. After mid-night, about single / unattached ladies hanging around. Some were really ugly, but there were about 4 average (5 on the looks scale) and maybe 1 around the 7-8 range.

Was drunk, so picked an average one for 20. 00 LT. Ok, sex and yum yum at night and in the morning. Food at the Walkabout is good, but it does take a while for deliver.

Ok, taking it easy tonight and will just hit the casino and try my luck.

when you get around to it how about telling us where the casinos are in PP? Never made it to one there - Snooky, Poipet, KK all yes but PP, no

Internet access is better at Flamingo and you might try a couple of the places on 51 right around the corner from Walkabout but, yes, in general internet sucks in PP - the WORST is a keyboard that won't work...with the letters worn off (for those of us who don't touch type)

Its only 5 $?

Why, oh, why are you (I mean all you newbies in PP) spoiling the place for the others...?

ST in PP is 5$ to 10$!

LT in PP is 15 $ to 20$.

If the girl doesnt agree send her away, or she will ask the next guy for 40 or 50 $.

Learn: In the provences some girls work a whole month in the rice-fields for 25 $!! And you agree without hesitation to its only 5?

I was in PNH for over a week this February, and did not find a single classy place. Most are pretty sordid, the type you walk out of backwards.
Just for fun, visit Sharky's, but don't expect Soi33 style.

You can tell me all about PNH when I expect to be in BKK in Jan/Feb!

Martinis ST / LT rates are 10-15. 00 / 20-25. 00 on average.

Yes, overpaid by 5. 00. It was hard for me to argue over 5. 00.

Walkabout ST / LT rates are 10. 00 / 20. 00.

Casino does allow Cambodian's into the place, so long as they are dressed properly. Everyone else can dress like a bum and they'll still let you in! Sharky's picks up after 9 PM (ladies start arriving) with most of the talent in their seats by 10 PM. Haven't asked the prices yet, will let you know once/if I find one from Sharky's that catch my eye. Some 8-9's to be had there, but most were already occupied with assuming their regular. Customer.

Shanghai again last night, took a booth and spent the entire night with two ladies getting drunk. Pretty healthy bar tab (63. 00) at the end of the night, with nothing to show for it. Except a few laughs and life stories. Was totally trashed on Jack and Diet Coke, still had a good time.

Walkabout had a few lookers today, in the 7-8 range stop-by. Definitely worth a 10. 00 ST.

Best meal, so far was at Shanghai's upscale menu with prices to match. But very tasty (breaded porkchops w/ carrots, string beans and other veggies) for 7.00.

Would you pay 30.000 $ for a used car, that is by any means just worth 20.000 $ at the local market price?

That's the way the ST-prices will raise to 20 or 25 $ within 2 years....! LT might be 50 or more soon.

Another day in paradise.

St 136 / 104 / 108, possible to get a lady to leave the bar....but not as easy as in Thailand. Strange the lady from Rose Bar wouldn't do a shorttime, only wanted long time for 30.00. Did get her down from 50.00, and 30.00 was a reasonable price for this 8 in looks Viet. Service was good, like the point that she drove the action once back in the room and in the morning.

Will ask around about Toul Kork, and make a visit there later this week w/ field report to follow.

Getting to like the Walkabout, as you can wake-up at anytime and they'll be a lady either on the 1st floor or 2nd floor bar readily available.

Stayed fixed at the Walkabout last night, it's open 24/7 and there are always ladies walking in-out looking for customers.

10.00 S/T with a 6 scale looker, didn't use the shorttime room as I'm staying there. S/T rooms are 3.00 an hour.

I'm ready to get flamed for paying to much again! Around 3:30 AM a hottie walked in with her friend, easily a 9-9 1/2 looker. Must of came directly from Martinis after it closed for the night, she knew some of the day/nighttime regulars (assuming she's only stops by if not picked up at Martini's, I imagine that doesn't happen very often). Don't remember her being in Martini's 5 days ago, I may have to visit Martini's tonight. She was asking 20 S/T and 40.00 L/T (until 3 PM), worked it for 30.00 LT w/ a tip if service was good.

Ended up tipping her the other 10.00, BJ was great (lasted forever, as I was have shitfaced) with sex in different positions being ok as I was doing most of the work.

Heading to Toul Konk and Toul Lorn (sic) tonight, got the gouge.

Toul Konk being the cheap brothels, 5 dollar a pop.

Toul Lorn (sic) being the 30.00 a pop / 60 minute hi-class brothel. Indicated that these are the new girls on the scene from Viet / Laos / Cambodia.

I've been to Naga Casino twice. Once last summer and once last winter. Both times I brought a local lady with who was dressed like the average khmer on the street.

Both times I was there, a large percentage of the guests looked to be Chinese and tended to look VERY serious as they were playing baccarat. Overall a very quiet and subdued environment as compared to Las Vegas Casinos.

I didn't look at every single table, but I checked most of them out, it appeared to be primarily baccarat, a little PaiGow and just a couple of blackjack tables.

As stated by others, they do have a section of slot machines.

As previously posted, getting to like the Walkabout (24/7 ladies available w/ a fair share of lookers walking around). Walkabout lady last night (23 year old Cambo, great massage skills, no BJ with avg sex in all (at least the ones I like) positions)) for 15. 00 S/T. No tip, as no BJ.

Hit a few 136 bars:

136 Bar, about 20 ladies of average looks. Most were in the 5-7 category. 2. 50 for a Jack and Coke, with ladies drinks being customer prices + 1. 00 added on. Only stayed for one drink and bought one ladies drink, gave me time to look around.

69 Bar, about 30 ladies in this small bar. I was the only customer, same format/pricing as 136 Bar. 3-4 ladies of 7-8 in looks. Some pretty faces and large tits (by Thai standards).

Beaver Bar, about 15 ladies with a few additional popping in and out. Maybe 2 lookers, but staff friendly and I spent a few hours in there watching the British Open on TV. Same pricing format for drinks, so it got a little expensive.

Tried Sharky's again at 1030PM, 20-30 ladies with about half occupied with customers. The other 10-15 were 3-5 in looks, had a Jack and Coke and a order of nachos. Nachos was the highlight of Sharky's.

Will try to control my spending, don't want to drive up the market.

Still haven't hit Toul Kong or the highend brothel yet, driver was busy yesterday. Doing the Walkabout Joker Drawing tonight and have a date with 2 Shanghai ladies tomorrow afternoon to catch a Cambodia boxing match, with Shanghai's BBQ (7. 50 all you can eat and free beer, from around 1900-can't remember the ending time). Both are Cambodian ladies, one's a cutie about 19 years old and still going to school during the day and the other is around 25. They are very entertaining.

Of note, Cambo / Viets in the profession here in PP do tend to get a beer gut. Have seen a large number of facial beauties, but a gut is major turn off for Mr. Mosquito. Way more poundage then with Thai ladies, even the breast sizes doesn't make up for it.

Finally had to hit an ATM, Famingo Hotel has a ATM in the lobby. Charge was 2. 00 per transaction and screen indicated you can widthdraw up to 20, 000 dollars (yes, dollars) at one time. WTF would require 20, 000. 00 dollars here in PP.

Please as another PP resident. I beg you not to overpay. $10 at the WA is all the girls are expecting.

I take a girl from there most afternoons and that is all that is expected.

As for the ATM at flamingoes. I think you may have mis read the screen or were looking at the Cambodian Riel amount. You are able to withdraw $1000 per day.

Not much happening around TK at the moment most of the houses have been closed down, now there are mostly street walkers there. A lot more difficult to do bussiness this way.

Just been to Martini a couple of weeks ago, my impression is that faces have changed there except for the Viet mamasan.
Most Viet girls sitting along the pond while Khmer girls mostly in the disco area. My taste for the night feel like having a Viet so I stayed around the pond for close monitoring.
Was approached by some including one of my interest, however once speaking to her the impression was not that nice. My instinct told me that it would not be a right pick so I skipped her; also she didn't want to go for LT but only do ST while I asked for LT.

No one else catched my eyes until one of the mamasan invited me to sit at her table and brought several 7-9 scoring cuties and recommended Rinna to me.
She is very much up to my taste and said to just started working less than a week; this implies that she's inexperienced so service should not be expected much. But that does not matter as my mind is already made up.
Just before leaving for hotel, mamasan whispered : be gentle to her; she's small, do it slowly OK? I acknowledged and head back to my place.

As expected, Rinna did not know how to service a customer so I was the one who run the show; doing everything until she start to get wet before I start pounding in to her. Starting slowly as mamasan asked as she was really tight even with the fluid. Feel like having sex with a virgin girl... but enjoyable though. Her non performance was compensated by her looks which served well as food to my eyes...

When you guys say 136 or 69 Bar, is that the actual name of the bar, or just the street?

When I'm on my rest nights (I'm on a 1 month trip), what Discos or other places are best to go to, to see if I could get lucky with a freebie?

Indicated that these are the new girls on the scene from Viet / Laos / Cambodia.I'm quite familiar with toul kok, but never heared about TOUL LORN, where is located please?

Just enter the "name" plus select PP from the "city list". You will find some that have similar names as well. The MAP helps quite a bit even if the exact STREET ADDRESS (how far down the street from what intersection) locations aren't much good unless you are familiar with the city in general

Please as another PP resident.

Not much happening around TK at the moment most of the houses have been closed down, now there are mostly street walkers there. A lot more difficult to do bussiness this way. Thanks Shadow for the info. Just saved me a trip there to verify what's happening. Quess nothing's changed since my last visit there 6months ago after the police crackdown.

Yeah I was hoping to get a driver and negotiate with the street walkers for LT. Figured I might get some more variety there. I have never been, but if it seems fairly dead there now or not friendly to foreigners maybe I will skip.

30 $ LT?

Its only 5 $?

Why, oh, why are you (I mean all you newbies in PP) spoiling the place for the others...?

ST in PP is 5$ to 10$!

LT in PP is 15 $ to 20$.

If the girl doesnt agree send her away, or she will ask the next guy for 40 or 50 $.

Learn: In the provences some girls work a whole month in the rice-fields for 25 $!! And you agree without hesitation to its only 5?

O tempora, o mores! Why buy Mercedes when you can get Cherry QQ?

Why pay Mercedes price when you can get a taxi?

Same reason man. One man's meat is another's poison.

fix the price first. KNOW WHAT MARKET PRICE IS (or should be) Fuck -or- walk, girl - your choice

Remember this - A higher PRICE doesn't necessarily mean a superior SERVICE EXPERIENCE.

it might work in CARS or FOOD, but NOT WITH PUSSY!!

and with pussy (as with boats and airplanes) -

IT'S CHEAPER TO RENT THAN BUY (I only want a little piece of you baby, not to own your whole BODY)

I have never EVER heard of girls going for ST for $10 outside of the Street 63 brothels. And those go for $10, not $5. Maybe a few years ago you could get those prices, but not anymore. I was in PP a few months ago and I took a girl back from Rose for $15. The only reason she came back with me was that she thought that I had said $50. I said too bad, gave her $15 and sent her on her way.

I've found that most of the girls in these chat bars want you to buy them drinks for 1 or 2 nights, and then MAYBE they'll go with you if they're not doing anything else that night. But they will quote you a minimum of $30, and most want $40 or even $50. The mamasan at Martinis even tried to get me to shell out $30 for ST with a Viet hottie. I just laughed and told her $10, no more. She wasn't interested. The slags at Sharkey's are the same - they want $30 minimum. Even the girls at Le Cyrcee are asking for $20 ST and $40 LT (these can usually be negotiated though).

So where, oh where are you finding girls for $5????

So where, oh where are you finding girls for $5????I have to disagree with you!

Go to Walkabout AND Martini and you will definetly find girls willing to go with you for $10 ST. No problem at all!

Of course they will try to get more when you ask for the price but I personally never paid more then $15.

As mentioned before if you don't speak Khmer they might think you are a first time visitor but it's not that hard to learn "dop dollaaaar (=ten dollars)"

$5 is rare but possible during off peak hours.

Was in PP for 12 days since yesterday. And it is definitely a buyers market. Wwith a lot more girls than punters. Didn't You see the Martini disco with a 30 girls dancing inside around 10 0'clock night an five man sitting inside every evening. Not counting the girls sitting in the beergarden.

Wakabout with very low business and half of the men being expats, just coming there for a beer or for their breakfast? More men at Sharky, but still the number of girls is 3 to 1 compared to the customers.

So why pay 2 or three times more money than necessary?

No problem to get a full service 10 $ ST or 20 $ LT. Be generous an give a 2 $ or 5 $ tip if the service was very good. But if you pay a 30 or 40 $ the girl will talk to her friend s about this and so the next will ask for the same price or even more. Don'T Forget: PP is a buyers market and you have to keep the prices low, by your acting in this market!

Many girls are happy to have a customer. So why ruin the market?

And one more: I am a Euro-currency-man, so 5 or 10 $ don't really mean much to me. But it is a question of economical reason.

It is harder to get a $5 ST on st 63 but it is still possible. It is pretty easy to get a $5st at most brothels in the provinces.

$10 ST at the Walkabout or Martinis is the Norm. Last week I even had the mamasan come over and offer me a girl for $10 mind you it was all done in Vietnamese maybe so no one elese could hear. But the freelancers will go for $10 they would prefer $15.

At most of the Hostess bars you will probalbly have to pay $15 for the ST. The girls figure if your dumb enough to pay a $10 barfine then I need more. There are still a few Hostess bars with $5 barfines and other that reduce to $5 as the night progress's.

Please Dont pay anymore than the above. Cambodia is not a good place to go for girls. There are no GO GO bars with naked girls dancing that all go out for extras. Many of the girls in the Hostess bars now dont go out. If you want cheap and easy you should stick to Thailand.

I've never had any problems getting girls for 10ST and 20LT in PP. Hostesses in chat-bars might want a bit more but sharkey's, walkabout's and martini's gals are happy to go for this price. My last trip was in may this year.

Thanks everyone for the input; it's good to know that the prices are still low at some places. There are a few bars (Rose, Zanzibar) where the girls ask for more. I was in Zanzibar this past April and the girls were asking for $50 LT and $30 ST - there was no negotiation (I tried). I finally walked out, disgusted at their refusals, vowing never to return. I guess I'll stick to Walkabout and Martinis next time.

I plan on coming to PP on Wednesday and would love to see my little Viet nympho Janto (or is it Junto?). She used to work at Le Cyrcee but has also been spotted at Walkabout. Anyone have any ideas where I might find her? Here's a pic of her from about a year ago:

VMann,
I am a bit opposed to reduce it simply to economic terms.
Whilst we are not going to marry any of these girls and I figure that we have all heard those oh-so-sad stories of sick mommas and dead buffalos there is and should still be room for a bit of human kindness.
A girl with listless service or trying a rip-off gets 5 $ and is asked to leave, but I have real few disappointing experiences. Most of the girls I've been with were nice in a personal way, so why not pay 30$ if you think she's been worth it ?
One more thing: A lot of the girls actually have to deliver every single $ at home, so if you invite them for breakfast they may appreciate it.
I'm not going to make a rule out of it and I'm not going to tell fellow mongerers what to do, but I dislike to be squeezed to my last fallback position in business and simply assume the same of others.
As the cost of living has risen drastically in Cambodia in the last 12 months we should understand. Sure, you'll find a girl for 10 or 20, but again, idf the girl is OK with the price she's usually hooking me up with an equally nice friend of hers or coming for a 3some ;-)

folks,
been to pnh beginning of july for 10 days and had a great time.
still, things are changing...some to the bad and some for the better.
there was a lot less visible **** prostitution which i appreciate. still, begging is even worse than before.
costs of living in cambodia have risen sharply and some girls demand unreasonable prices, this owing in particular to japanese fellow mongerers with particular wishes.
i agree with most here in this forum that one should sinply look for another girl in such cases.
cyrcee's - as always nice girls & decent service
sharky - pretty much mixed but some nice girls late at night, usually demanding $ 20 to s25 lt
martini - so far the best spot. mama san is reasonable and actually meets her promises ;-). feel free to hit her with your extra wishes.
drug abuse has gotten worse, needed to send out two girls which were nice but couldn't do without their yaba. i won't tolerate substance abuse in my hotel room since that could really get one in trouble.
tuk-tuk drivers have become more greedy demanding $5 for a ride from sisowath quai to martini (unreal, of course). but the $1 fare days are over, $2 is it. i usually pay my tuk-tuk driver $10 per day, that's a fair deal for me as he gets me around all through the city without hassle, speaks good english and knows where the action is.
stayed in ny hotel this time and was pleased, room is basic but big & clean (vip $50/day) and even three girls coming & going were no problem. wireless internet worked ok. safebox & good room service.
made it to angor this time...it was worth the trip for angkor wat, but the rest of siem reap was disappointing, tourist outlet of the cheapest kind.
one more thing: been in anumber of bars i already knew and noticed with surprise that in some bars where the girls before were only to keep companionship but no take-out things have changed. happy man bar is actually a good spot to pick up some nice girls.

I've had great service from beautiful women in PP at low prices. On one of my visits in April, 2005 I had brought a girl from Martini back to my hotel. This is a new one on me. We were going at it on my bed with me on top, when she calmly reached behind her head for the remote to change the channel. Can't remember what Thai or Viet channel was on, but she switched it to MTV. WTF?

Anyway I still go to Martini. Just one of those incidents I laugh about now.

I was in PP a few weeks ago with a friend and neither of us ever paid more than $1 for an individual ride from river side area to the Walkabout area, the Sharkies area, or the lakeside area. We went to Martini's once and it was much less than $5 but I can't remember how much - I think maybe $3, but $4 back with a foursome. When we went from the river side to Walkabout together we paid $1 plus 2,000 Riel, and when we went back with a foursome we bargained for $2.50 or $3 but once got stuck with $4 due to focusing on the girls. Later we tried not discussing price but just handing the driver the 'correct' (barang) amount and walking away, ignoring his protests. One time a driver tried not to take the money out of my hand to thwart this, arguing with me, but in the end he took it and I walked away.

I am trying to avoid the US airlines, crummy service...best choice after Thai cancelled the JFK flight is EVA AIR via TPe.
Damage 1700 USD in Evergreen Deluxe which is good - 12 hours Economy is more than I can stand.

if i get a joint where there's only a shared bathroom, do you think khmer/viet girls might be less prissy about washing?

don't get me wrong, i like 'clean', but most girls will wash between mongers anyway. i'd rather she had an honest few hours sweat and musk - than still half wet and a p*ssy smelling of soap.

There is two nice young motodop with tuk tuk always stationed in front of la croisette of sisovath quay. One of them as twin brother. Good guys, deeply honest. I know them when they worked at Sunday guesthouse.

Golden rule with motodop fixed the price in advance, if the price seemed to high don t try to bargain find another one

When you re arrived Told them to leave, otherwise they will overcharged you for waiting time at ridiculous price.

For backpakers never let them bring you to boeng kok lake, hotels are 1 dollar cheaper, than over place but without convenience, and you will be far from everything. Which mean you will need to use moto dop or rent bike at expensive price. Restaurant in this area are more expensive and all quote in dollars.

63rd street is a few kms long.

Are the brothels (karaokes) just past Heart of darkness travelling north, cross the junction and then found on the right hand side? Also, then turning right there are more. And turning right again lots more?

I can't believe these are the brothels i have heard mentioned here.

Please advise. I dont really want to go into one of these to have to listen to high pitched love songs for an hour.

And i have spent many evenings looking around toul kork without much luck either but there is meant to be a strret full of brothels there.

Thanking you all.

At the crossroad many people will invited you to visited their brothel. It s more active since 5/6 pm. Almost closed before this time be very careful with your wallet

Not finding a brothels in toul kok? It s impossible, ever if they are less numerous than before toul kok is still alive. Are you sure you take the road on the left, behind the french embassy and after the gas station?

If you re a beginner avoid Toul kok, its not for you. No english, dirty house, low quality of girls and things can became without control quickly especially at night.

Does any one have contacts, as we are looking for a 3 bed villa to western standards in PP. It must have security & be decent.

We are looking for a quiet place where we can have our own privacy re our goings & comings without drawing attention if we bring back girls.

Can any one help please.

We are planning to arrive around the 3/4 of September 2008 to 13 September 2008.
Please advise, this will be our second trip now, the last was in August last year.
We are looking to spend about $300 to $500 for the villa.

Thanks for looking your help will be appreciated.

Anyone going around the same time, perhaps we could meet up, socialise, get to know the places to go etc, we are all from the UK.

Cheers

Sorry but I think you are going to be very dissapointed. You will not find a stand alone villa for $500 a month within 5km of the city. esp of any standard that we may consider liveable.

Good luck hunting but I think you will have to raise your budget to $700-$1000.

Shadow read the Ukguy's post again, he's willing to pay $500 for about one week to eleven days.

a question from the other end of the cheapscrape roof-over-my-head corner . . .

if i get a joint where there's only a shared bathroom, do you think khmer/viet girls might be less prissy about washing?

don't get me wrong, i like 'clean', but most girls will wash between mongers anyway. i'd rather she had an honest few hours sweat and musk - than still half wet and a p*ssy smelling of soap.

don't get me wrong chris,
but with so many cheap options (all offering private baths with fan in the $7-10 range--a/c extra), why bother renting shared baths? these places are usually for the backpackers bringing their own friends and girlfriends as a group on vacation.

Just a quick thank you to all the guys who post here. I'll be making my first trip to Phnom Penh next month for a five-day R&R from the Philippines and will probably stay at the Asia Hotel per many of the recommendation on the board. I'll make a list, during the next couple of weeks, of the bars and clubs recommended herein and will gladly write a field report either during the trip or when I back.

I have a good friend who has lived in the city for years and unfortunately, will not be around when I'm there. He's offered to put me in touch with a driver whom he has used for years. There's no question about the driver's reliability, but my question to you guys is whether I really need a driver who knows every place in the city or not. Is there any real advantage?

Thanks.

Just got back from 2 weeks in Cambodia, most of which was spent in Phnom Penh. The place is still a complete shithole, but it’s still much cheaper than Thailand.

Rose Bar – took a hottie out of here the first night. I walked in on a Wednesday night around 12:30 and no one was there. Played a few rounds of pool and took her LT for $20. Sadly this was to by my only good deal for the week. I walked in a week later and was going to take this other girl out. Bought her drinks, played some pool, and looked like she was ready to go. At the last minute (around 2:30 am) she said that she had to walk her friend home that night so she couldn’t go with me. There’s also a hottie behind the bar who works the cash register that has huge tits – but she’s very temperamental and will rarely go with anyone.
Basically, if you want to take a girl out of this bar you need to be very lucky and the girl has to like you. The girls here have no qualms about letting you buy them drinks all night and then making up some excuse not to go with you. I think all the bars on this street are similar, although Rose is probably the least worst of the bunch.

Zanzibar – I have never seen anyone take a girl out of this bar. I believe that it’s truly an impossibility. I sat down for one drink and the vibe was the same as it was a year ago: buy us drinks, but there’s no way you’re taking us out. There’s a stunner in here named “Darling” who I’ve been trying to take out for awhile. As usual, she made up some excuse as to why she couldn’t go. This is a good bar for expats to hang out, but not for pulling girls.

Walkabout – Still one of the best bets in town. Sure, it’s a complete dive, but it’s a good place to hang out and meet freelancers. The upstairs bar is in dire need of remodeling – it looks like a warehouse with dusty tables and a few pool tables. I met a girl here who was half Viet and half Khmer named Ying (or was it Ning?). She’s the shortest girl who hangs around upstairs, usually playing pool. Anyway, we agreed on $30 for LT, took her back and she was a complete starfish. Wouldn’t do anything. Was so bad that I couldn’t even come and I just kicked her out. Still paid her $20 (didn’t want her spreading bad rumors about me in the bar), but be warned – she’s terrible.

The next night I went upstairs and finally got to see my old friend Janto again. She recognized me immediately even though I hadn’t seen her in over a year and it was only one night. Spent the night together and gave her $40 (don’t yell at me – she’s well worth it.) I came back after going to Angkor Wat and spent another 2 days with her. She’s a little nympho, that’s for sure. One of the horniest girls I’ve ever seen. When I left she gave me her number and email (sorry, she told me not to give it out).

Shanghai – the queen of the cock-tease bars. I only went in here because it’s in between Heart of Darkness and Walkabout, and they’ve got a decent pool table. I sat down and ordered a beer. Now most of the hostesses here are very attractive, and started chatting a few of them up. After about 30 minutes, my friend was getting frustrated and just asked them point blank: “Do you ever go with any customers?” All three of them replied “No. Never.” Out we went.

Heart of Darkness – For those of you who don’t know, this is a dance club. There’s also a pool table, but it’s mostly a place for freelancers and for guys to come and pick them up. There are also a few middle-aged men here with their receding hairlines, wearing their chinos and polo shirts just standing around not knowing quite what to do. It’s an interesting scene to watch. Beers are expensive here - $3.00 – the most in any bar. It’s a good place to hit towards the end of the night if you’ve struck out at the other places. Oh, and the tuk tuk guys are complete assholes outside. 10 of them will hound you immediately as you exit the place.

Sharky’s – I was apprehensive going up the green felt steps yet again, but was pleasantly surprised – the quality has actually gone up here! Maybe management finally kicked all the skanks to the curb and made room for some new hotties. First of all, this place has got great food – some of the best in the city. The only problem I see with this place is that if you want to play pool (especially on a weekend), you will sometimes have to wait for over an hour, and there are some guys who are just complete assholes when playing. There are still a few cute Viet girls who hang out here, and I pulled one named “Lang” with hair down to her waist. She was a complete pornstar in the bedroom. Unbelievable. Probably the best BJ I’ve ever had in my P4P experience.

Le Cyrcee – we walked in here just for the hell of it. 6 girls automatically started molesting us when we sat down. Unfortunately there’s only 1 Viet girl working there now that I could see. Also, the prices have gone up. I suppose with the closing of Sophie’s and Makado, this is the only place left so they can charge what they want. For LT it’s $7 barfine, and $40 to the girl. ST is $4 barfine, and I think it’s $20 to the girl.

Happyman bar – This is one of those bars that’s just like DV8, 136, 104, etc. They’ve got a pool table and every time you make a shot, all the girls applaud. A few lookers, but nothing to get excited about. Also I’m not even sure you can even take these girls out (I couldn’t at 136 last time).

Me and my friend went to DV8 for our first time ever last night and the lady said they had just relocated; she said it isn't vary far from where it was. I think she was saying it is just a few businesses away.

Now it has just one floor and no pool table, but they still had the old sign in front saying pool table on second floor.

Since my friend brought his own girl, the girls there looked over at me but didn't approach me, but we just went there to have a look anyways.

Good round up by mango fan but cant understand his problems in the rose bar or zanzibar.

Girls in both usually go especially at this time of year when customers are hard to find. The rose has good food and sociable girls, usually very sociable.

Up down bar in 136 is a favourite with an affable host in dave and always a good vibe amongst the girls.

I use to enjoy the nightowl but the influx of sooties put me right off,69 bar had the same problem the other night.

Thanks for the two replies I got.

Yes. It seems that I even got mixed up with 51st and 63rd.

Using http://www.bongthom.com/Maps/ShowMap. Asp? IDMap=7, I was referring to the karaoke places on 51st. Walking north, cross junction at 154 there are few places on the right, then turn right at 144, again places on the right, then turn right onto 49th and right again onto 154. In other words a block karaoke parlours. Girls sit out/inside on plastic chairs, and often a young male guy outside tries to get you inside.

Are these 5 dollar brothels?

Someone mentioned walking up Monivong (93) north, turn right on 154 and then you see girls/pimps at corner of 63rd. Some of the girls sit on floor in between parked cars outside the hotel/cafe-look a bit young though.

Warning! I got scammed by a girl near here. Pimp said hand the 12 dollars over before the action. I said no, I will give it to the girl after. Went to hotel. Paid the girl when I got in room. Also realized this street girl was a little rough in the light. She said she was hungry wanted to go to street food stall outside. I knew what was coming but I didn't care. I half wanted her not to come back because she wasn't really that nice. Yes, you guessed it. Never saw her again.

Never pay a pimp in advance and never pay a girl before the dirty deed.

Only carry money you need for that session and put your wallet under the mattress. The girl normally laughs at this because she knows she is beaten. Putting the wallet anywhere else in the room and you will lose your cash guaranteed.

Hi.

Can sombody tell me about a place called X.0 snooker club. (Not sure if this is the correct name) It's next to the DR club and nto far from the Queen Hotel. I've seen carloads of beautiful girls park their cars and walk in.

Is this a hostess club?
Are Barangs welcome?
What do the girls charge for sex?

Thanks.

Can anyone out there tell me which is better, the Asia Hotel or the Riverside? I've checked both web sites and the Riverside appears to be slightly nicer from the standpoint of room furnishings, and it's gotten slightly better reviews on the sites that I visited at least. This is my first trip to Cambodia and it's strictly R&R, so I want to make sure that where I stay is reasonably comfortable, safe, and within striking distance of the better hunting grounds.

Any help would be much appreciated.

The riverside hotel is nicer than the Asia hotel.

As for Happyman the girls definatley go. I have been with five of the girls there, at times I have been with three girls at a time with a mate so I can say that they are not shy and good performers also. Same goes for girls at 136 although there are girls there that dont go. Dont be shy just ask them straight up even before you buy them the first drink. Dont play there game or the one that your used to in the west, buying the girls drinks hoping that they will like you and go home with you.

Just because a Cambo girl rides in a car dosen't mean she cannot still be a sex worker.
She could be sponsored by someone and still look for some extra cash.
Maybe X.0 club girls are charging high premiums for their services and can afford a semi luxury lifestyle. Not every girl going into X.0 club had a car, but rather there were 3-4 girls in a car.

That was my question in my original post. Are the girls going to X.0 club prostitutes, and if so what do they charge?

I could be totally off-base here(as you assume). These girls may just be Hi-So Cambodian girls looking to just have a good time.

Yes most of the are. They charge from $20 to $50.

There is more than one XO club as well, but most are the same.

I don't know the Queen Hotel or the DR club. Where are we talking about? What streets? (cross streets is a good way to give location in PP, not just one street since usually they run such a long distance)

To Shadow6941, are they all about the same in quality? If not, which is/are best. And how many are there? where?

I was in Phnom Penh for a week in March, and again for most of the month of May. I have a friend who lives there, and he informed me what the prices should be, as I had not been in almost 5 years. I found him to be dead on with the prices, so I am going to share them here. Keep in mind that these are not asking prices, these are the actual prices you can bargain them down to--in other words, the same prices a Khmer would pay. The keys to getting these prices are simple, and will also work in other cities in Asia and Latin America:
1) Never, ever, ever, ever, ever ask how much. Tell them the price you will pay--and don't try to low ball and think you will bargain up. This will just make them think you don't know the real price.
2) When you tell them the price, make sure your tone and body language indicate that you assume the price will be accepted and are just verifying this. Don't ask questioningly, or stand there waiting for agreement as if you expect a counter offer. State the price and then just go on as if the price has already been accepted, whether this means getting on the back of the motorcycle, into the tuk-tuk, walking with the girl toward the room, etc.
3) Walk away. I had to do this fully 50% of the time. In 90%-95% of the cases the seller followed me and either agreed to my price or came down from his previous low--and then eventually agreed to my price.
4) Don't get angry
5) Set the price first; don't take the service and then pay at the end. Yes, that technique will work, but it will very often result in real anger, as the driver or girl was probably thinking they were going to get an inflated tourist price the whole time, and now feels cheated.
6) Whenever possible, use the same driver regularly. You will never have to bargain after the second time, and usually not after the first.
7) It helps to say the price in Khmer, as that indicates you are not a newbie.

The prices I regularly paid:

Motodop to/from anywhere in the Riverside/Walkabout/Psar Tmai(sp?) area: 2000 Riels max, 1000 Riels for short rides, even if it is you plus a girl on one bike (my friend is over 350 pounds/160 kilos and also gets this price, so anyone can.)

Motodop to/from anywhere in the Riverside/Walkabout/Psar Tmai to Martini: $1. Coming back, if you have stayed late and there is a shortage of rides, you might have to pay more, but not over $1.

Tuk-tuk to/from anywhere in the Riverside/Walkabout/Psar Tmai(sp?) area: $1 max, 2000-3000 Riels for short rides. Some friends insisted that they were unable to get one below $1.50 because they were a group of 4 guys (2 of whom were pretty hefty), even after walking away, but I can't verify this personally. I know that 3 of us got tuk-tuks for $1 the next day with no problem. The only place I could not get this price regularly was on the corner next to Angkor International Hotel--so I just walked a block either direction to find a driver who would accept it.

Tuk-tuk to/from anywhere in the Riverside/Walkabout/Psar Tmai to Martini: $1.50. Coming back, if you have stayed late and there is a shortage of rides, you might have to pay more.

Tuk-tuk from the airport to your hotel in the central or riverside areas: $3 if you get it outside the fence, and I suspect they will go even lower, as it took less than 30 seconds negotiating to get this price.

Tuk-tuk from Walkabout to American embassy: $1.50

Tuk-tuk for more than about 4 hours: $2 per hour. This is for constant driving, such as when you are going out to a village and back. If it is a little bit of driving and a lot of waiting, such as when bar hopping, you can get it cheaper--but in that case it is generally cheaper and easier to just get a new tuk-tuk at each stop, unless you are really lazy, disabled, or it is raining.

Note: In extremely heavy rain or flooding, you may have to add 1000-2000 Riel to any and all of the above prices.

ST in any Viet house on St. 63, 154, etc: $5 (When one pimp said no, the price had gone up to $10, I just said "Oh, sorry, I did not know, I'll go somewhere else" and the price immediately came back down to $5 before I got 5 feet away)

ST in Walk About or Martini: $10

LT in hostess bar or Martini: $20, although I may have paid $25 in Zanzibar. I can't remember.

On a slightly related note, I firmly believe that damn near every (like 99.9%) non-virgin girl in every hostess bar who is not the owner's girlfriend does go with customers for money--but some are a lot pickier about who they go with, or only go when rent is due, at the end of the night, etc. This even applies to Shanghai, where only about 10% regularly go, but where several girls who vehemently insisted they were not hookers admitted to me that yes, they would sleep with customers they liked or whom they thought might be potential boyfriends, and yes, they expected to be given money the next morning. Still, in their view that did not make them prostitutes!?!?

I did find it MUCH easier to get some of the ice-princess superstar type hostess bar girls to agree to go with me when the bars were getting ready to close than early in the night.

I'll be back again in about a week, so if anything has changed I'll report it here.

My first experience in PP. Only one day.

After reading well the forum (thank you all who contributed! ) I directly ckeck in at Walkabout Hotel. The place is wonderful: it is a cheap and decent hotel. It is also a nice bar, with good food and pool. Both work as a 24h pick-up and fuck-up point! 24h open, 24h available chicks! All around it also there are many girly bars, discos, and even karaoke and Cambodian brothel.

I check-in at 3pm and immediately go down to take a beer and a. A nice small girl, very dark, very young (I admit I didn't control the age), nt so nice face comes near to me. No english. We go up. No speaking about money.

Usual stuff: BBBJ, datY, missionary. Then things get a little weirder than usual: she licks my ass very deep and asks me to take her ass too. She keeps it all, without lubri, and she likes. Then a pass to doggy and insert a finger in her ass, then 2 and 3. It turns her up incredibly. The more I was rude to her little hole the more she liked. Exploded, uncovered on her body as she was eating my nipples hard.

Sigarette. Rest. Tv. She lies down on my legs, just kissing my small dick. She take the small point in her mouth and sleeps! After maybe half hour I begin to turn her on by. Kissing and licking and fingerfucking hard her ass. Begin another wonderfull session and hard insertions, biting, even spanking.

She was hot and wet. A small young body in an experienced and weird *****. Excellent session. We go down, I gave her 10usd and bring her home with my scooter. She said finish for today, student and go to bang a just foreigner, not even everyday. Yeah, you know, they all say so.

Sorry but not noted down her name.

I never discuss the prices. Thanks to this forum I always have an idea of the current prices, take the girl, and after the service (be it massage, be it lt, be it st, or else) I give her the average price. They actually accept because the price of the forum is the real actual current price.

In pp the prices are 5 usd for a quicky fuck on 63 street.

10 usd for ST in hotel (15 for model-type), and 20-30 for LT, for girls in bars and disco. Not encountered and bar-fine system, but maybe more local expert mongers may explain it better

In winter the prices go a up.

It is better never ask for the price. You know it, and she knows it too.

I don't say this to provoke, as I've been a buyer in those same shops myself, even in this past year. I just wonder: how can these places be selling these drugs so much cheaper than they're available elsewhere? They're somewhat higher priced in Bangkok, and much higher priced almost anywhere else.

I can see how the explanation for the Indian knockoffs would make sense, but how could they be selling the Pfizer and Eli Lilly originals at such low prices? One possibility there is that they're counterfeit of course, but I'm actually open to hearing what explanation otherwise there might be, if anyone claimed they're legit, and judging how plausible that explanation sounds.

I want to believe, I really do. ;)

I watched a BBC documentary about a year ago. The lady reporter pretended to be a wholesale buyer. She visited several factories in India.

They were telling her that she couldn't make the difference in the packaging and that she could have any percentage of the incredient in the pills.
I remember them quoting 7%, 25% or whatever she wants.

So if that's right, then the Cialis and Viagra pills are knockoffs too. If so, there'd be no reason to buy those brands in PP, but rather to just stick with the ones we know are Indian (Apcalis, Kamagra, etc.).

I don't follow what you said about how the woman could 'have any % of the ingredient in the pills'. Which ingredient? The active ingredient?

They meant the active ingredient eg sidenafil for viagra.

I will agree with you about Kamagra etc. I only get mine in bulk while in Buenos Aires. Genuine Cialis and local generic viagra but they do the job very well.
I buy from pharmacies but you can check prices and what's available there at this site.

"Motodop to/from anywhere in the Riverside/Walkabout/Psar Tmai to Martini: $1. Coming back, if you have stayed late and there is a shortage of rides, you might have to pay more, but not over $1." That should have been "not over $1.50"

"American Embassy" should have been "Thai Embassy." I don't know what I was thinking. I have also been informed that the trip should have only cost $1--I overpaid.

When I mentioned paying 1000 riel for a short motodop ride, the operative word was "short"--like from St. 118 to St. 136. In other words, an easily walkable distance that you just don't feel like walking at the moment. The vast majority of rides will be 2000. Khmers will actually pay 1500 for certain in-between distances, but that is more effort to figure out than I am willing to go to for 12.5 cents.

My comments about setting the price first apply to tuk-tuks more than girls. I have noticed that I no longer discuss price first with girls except in hostess bars, and I seldom take girls from those. Not sure when I stopped doing this--I guess I just go by the feel of the situation. For instance, I have never asked a girl from Heart of Darkness about money, and I have always just given them $20 early the next afternoon and had no complaints.

I have lots of friends who buy generic medicine here and have heard no complaints about them not working properly--which seems rather incredible considering how corrupt Cambodia is. I have, however, heard of people getting supposedly name brand drugs where the boxes were not quite right, and refusing to buy them because they feared the contents might be fake as well. Overall, I would say you are as safe buying here as in Thailand, and more so than in the Philippines.

Safe in terms of effectiveness but not necessarily your health. Sildenafil and tadalafil are cheap to manufacture so there's no reason not to put some in -- it keeps your distributors happy. The problem with fast and dirty production is impurities, including some nasty ones like boric acid. Potency varies widely too.

The safest assumption in Cambodia is that these drugs are 100% bootleg, mostly from China. Many friends use them with no problems but personally I'm happy to pay a bit more for 'real' Indian generics in Thailand.

The plot thickens. Are we pretty sure that's true, that the ones available even as Indian generics in Cambodia are in fact Chinese? How do we know this? Not doubting it, just digging to see why you think so. That these same Indian generics are cheaper in Cambodia than in Thailand would seem to point to your being correct. Though I guess it's possible there is some other reason too. Or a contrary speculation: why would the Chinese bother to counterfeit Indian knockoffs rather than the real thing.

Another disturbing thought: if the Indian generics in Cambodia are fake and from China, why would we assume the ones in Thailand aren't too. It's not like there's any government oversight there either, and even if there was, would you trust Thailand's govt oversight?

I'm sure that some of them are (I'm a journo and pursued some of this for work . . . well, half for work) but by no means all of them. There are a lot of people in a lot of places making fakes these days.

When I first saw Indian generics in PP some years ago I bought some on the principle that they wouldn't be worth counterfeiting. Then I got a batch that was obviously fake -- substandard coating and weird texture. Pretty clearly the big Indian brands like Penegra and Kamagra have reached a level of name recognition where they're a worthwhile target for counterfeiters. And by now some of the fakes look very good.

No government oversight for the Indian generics in Thailand, since they're not licensed for sale there. You need to go to a trustworthy pharmacy. And finding one of those is a whole topic in itself.

Note that I am not saying that they are 100% safe in any way. That would be ludicrous. The same applies to drugs bought in Thailand, where I am 100% positive I have purchased fake Kamagra, and the Philippines, where anything and everything can be fake, including the Cipro I once bought (at least I am pretty sue it was fake, based upon how quickly I responded to a second round of treatment with some I bought at a second location.). Considering that pharmacists in the U.S.A. have been caught selling fake cancer meds in the past, I would never have complete trust in the drugs I purchase anywhere.

I also lived in China for a few years, and you can buy a very limited number of name brand medicines there at dirt cheap price. These are the real thing, but the selection is not very large. They are mostly from European companies, and never include the "latest and greatest" drugs. For instance, there are about 5 or 6 anti-hypertension drugs available, and I think none that have been released in the last decade. However, these are easily recognizable since everything except the brand and name is in Chinese. ED meds were not among this group when I left last year.

It's true, the more you look into the drugs distribution system in SE Asia, the more your realize that you are taking a risk anywhere. But Cambodia still has a particularly poor reputation -- lots of info on this online from the WHO -- with ED meds taking over from anti-malarials as the main target for counterfeiters.

Can't understand all this debate about authenticity, don't know anyone who has had a problem with getting it up in this town.

I'm coming to Phnom Penh for the first time a week from tomorrow. I think I've mapped out the location of most of the better known bars thanks to the information I've found here, but please tell me what are "taxi girls?" Also, any updates on the bar scene would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the response. Here in the Philippines we call them differently. I'll be in PP for several days so I will have the chance to hit most of the places recommended on these pages. However, I arrive during the evening and want to start the trip off right before fatigue takes over completely. Any recommendations for the first "don't miss" bar I should go to?

I'm afraid you'll be disappointed in PP.
All the best for a good catch!

Thanks Ekspat for the insight, but the truth is I've been here for five years and I'm ready for a change, even if the change of quality is in a slightly downward direction. I've read about 15 or 16 pages on this forum, and most of the guys seem to have a pretty good time. I doubt that my tastes are much different from theirs.

I've made a list of about twenty-five bars recommended by the guys here and it sounds to me like Martinis, Walkabout, Heart of Darkness and Sharky's are the first places that I should check out. In fact most of them sound a bit like LA Cafe, and if that's the case, I'll be a happy camper.

I've booked the Riverside for the first two nights and after that, we'll see. Will probably spend one night at Seam Reap to see Ankor Wat and if I'm lucky enough to find a keeper in PP, I'll take her with me. If not, I'll have a night to test my luck there.

I'm looking forward to the entire experience.

When I am in pp I always buy Zeagra. They sell it a petrol stations for $2. 30 for 4 x 100mg tablets. It always works well for me and I only take 1/4 of a tablet. Has anyone else tried it?

Not a clue who makes it or if it well known enough to have been copied!

That's so cheap! And it is sold at petrol stations? Ummm...
I dont remember exactly how much but Kamagra (4x100mg) cost me 20+USD in HCMC. Cialis (2x20mg) is more expensive.
A 20mg Cialis keeps me going 4 days or so while a 33mg of Kamagra lasts me only 3 to 5 hours. With Kamagra, it is difficult to time when to take, considering a lead time to take effect as well, besides the deed is not always guaranteed. A Cialis is good for a long weekend.

ThanksNmg,

You can find taxi girls everywhere. The first place that comes to mind is Walkabout. There are freelancers there all the time. At a lot of the bars the girls may be available. Watch out for places like Shanghai where the girls are just cockteasers. At some of the restaurants the waitresses will go with you. Of course there are the brothels like on Street 63. There are usually some freelancers at the riverside looking for customers.

GEDont miss bars?

Street 104 has the reliable rose bar(with rooms upstairs) as well as the bunny bar(nice girls,no men),and the open all hours nightowl with probably the best lookers in PP.Beware there are several genuine virgins here.

Heading south to st 136 is the noisy but full of girls 69 bar plus next door full of girls 136,across the road the affable pom dave has the up/down with the bonus ladyboys.
If you want girls with a few miles on the clock but guaranteed performers, mostly ex cycree, mikado, sophie try tahiti eden on 118.

And the always titilating le cycree, across the other side of norodom between 136 and 130.

Sharkey, walkabou and martini much better later, and there is always the heart after 1 or 2pm when the bar girls drift by-but beware of khmers with guns, seriously.

Thanks very much for the information. It's nice to know something about the smaller places. I think my list now includes about 25 bars, so I might not have the chance to hit them all, but I'm sure going to try.

Thanks too to the guys who have PM'ed me with advice and information. It's much appreciated and if I can ever reciprocate here in the city of Davao, please do not hesitate to ask me.

I've been past Mikado about a dozen times in the past few weeks and it was locked up. I reckon it's shut. La Cyrcee girls at the moment with about two exceptions are definitely not 'a few miles on the clock' though I haven't checked all the places you mention. Do you think Cyrcee kicks them out once they pass 25?

with all respect, any info on Cambodia that is more than a couple of months old has to be taken with a pinch of salt as things change so rapidly, but it's good to get a general picture or background info. Even some of the tourist guides have a 'best before' stamp on them <g>.

I will arrive in Phenom Penh tomorrow evening. If any of the more experienced Cambodia guys are in town and you want to get together for a beer, the first couple are on me. I've got the names of so many bars and so many semi-conflicting suggestions that I'm not sure where I'll start, but probably Martinis.

If anyone's out there and wants to get together, send me a PM.

Chirstopherd does not read properly, I live here and have up to date info always. Mikado closed more than 6 months ago, everyone in PP knows why, I said that eden had EX girls from various places.

Many girls move around or are sacked for working out of hours, getting a phone number is always the best policy.

LCC had a few nice youngsters the other night, eden has veterans.

Hi all,

I have been PP and Cambodia in January and go again in November. I know about the 10$ST and 20$ LT.

But I saw many people who take the girl also the whole day and for travel, . Full service, like part time girl friend.

How much is it about per day to take such a girl; any experiences?

sook-see-bye’s phnom penh

disclaimer
this report is based on personal experiences and is current as of august-september 2008. as things change very rapidly in cambodia, please don’t place too much reliance on any reports (inc this one) as details go if more than a couple of months old! it’s nowhere near comprehensive but is written to be as helpful as possible.

orientation
roads basically run as a numbered grid, even numbered roads running east to west and odd numbered roads running north to south. central phnom penh is the area west of the river from wat phnom in the north (about street 92) to wat lanka and the independence monument in the south (sihanouk boulevard or about 276). some of the bigger streets have names. the three main north-south streets in this area are monivong boulevard, norodom boulevard and sisowath quay.

street 51 (also called pasteur) runs north-south to the west of norodom.

for accommodation and mongering purposes, street 51 and sisowath quay (with a few joining streets in the region of street 136) are the two main choices. i think this is more helpful than a list of bars as many bars change frequently and, once you decide on your home stomping place, it is easy enough to find and explore them yourself.

street 51 includes walkabout and heart of darkness and ‘the strip’ – which is a succession of bars aimed at the single male (and from which women can be extracted with varying amounts of ease and difficulty). although regular tourists wander in, it is an area where the monger does not look out of place, no matter how old, lecherous, unwashed and grubby. cyrcee is in a parallel street a couple of blocks north of heart of darkness with a few illegal brothels in between.

sisowath quay on the other hand, is the upmarket area catering for mainstream tourists or those that like their creature comforts, and mongers stand out rather more. most of the bars with pdp (and many guest houses) are located a few yards away in the streets running off sisowath. one or two bars, like sharkey’s, are equidistant from both. although the whole of the area can just about be covered on foot, norodom can be a pain to cross in rush hour. when i arrived, i was lucky to cross it in five minutes. by my second visit i had it down to half a minute (see tips on traffic in my cambodia general report).

i personally preferred street 51 area. it has plenty of options within very close range of each other even if the lower end predominates. the main hassle is from being offered motos, but i found many got to know me and we could make a joke of it (remember they’re only trying to earn a living). the hit and miss of walkabout is balanced by the more reliably good-looking options in cyrcee or (if you can handle it) heart of darkness. but street 51 is also only yards from the smell of human excrement in back-alleys. not cambodia at its most horrific, but pretty bad.

sisowath quay, in contrast, is cambodia re-packaged for tourists and rich cambodians. there’s greater choice of places that are ‘civilised’ according to western standards. rooms aren’t necessarily more expensive. the sh*t and p*ss of life is better hidden. one of the main annoyances is schoolkids trying to sell you the free newspaper or cello-wrapped bootleg copies of lonely planet and any other book tourists buy. just tell then they should be in school. sisowath, especially a bit further south, has some genuinely appealing (non-pdp) locales. fcc is a very civilised place to have lunch or dinner. the royal palace area is a nice area for enjoying the sunshine, as is the (quieter and more secluded) garden in the national museum. for those of you who have contemplated paying ross jeffries $$$ to learn how to control your mind and influence women, you can get the basics of mind-control from one of the few places that teach genuine buddhist meditation at the nearby wat lanka (the senior monk speaks english). free, but if you’ve never sat cross-legged for an hour it might seem like hard work at first.

other main choices in terms of accommodation are a) guest house or 24hr hotel? and b) do you want a place with pdp blatantly available on site? guest houses mean getting security to let you in and out late at night whereas with a hotel you can mostly just waft in. for pdp on-tap, walkabout is the main venue on 51, and a new bar called candy bar (street 136, a few yards off the quay) the only really promising equivalent i’ve found in the sisowath area (see accommodation, below). one advantage many hotels have is that tuktuks hang about outside, which is handy if there’s a downpour and you need transport.

free maps (eg ‘visitors guide map supplement') and guides (eg 'phnom penh after dark', 'phnom penh out & about', 'phnom penh drinking & dining') are available at just about every bar, restaurant, guest house and hotel. you won’t need them after the first day, but they are good to collect and skim through while you get your bearings.

arrival
from the airport, $7 is standard just now for a tuktuk, more for taxis. from the bus drop-off (near central market), walkabout or sisowath is almost walking distance and shouldn’t really cost more than $1. but you are hemmed in when you get off the bus and unless you really know your way and want to walk you probably have to cough up $3 tuktuk, especially if it’s rush hour.

accommodation
here’s some places i’ve stayed at. the first two are street 51 area. the third is between 51 and sisowath.

1. walkabout. first time i checked it out the rooms looked awful value so i didn’t stay. second time i went i was offered a top floor room (same price, $15 inc extra large double bed, a/c and hot water) which was much nicer, so took it. there are sometimes cheaper rooms at £12. the locks on the doors are no worse than the rest of cambodia (not such a big deal if you lock your backpack and then lock it to some furniture). and there is a locked ‘residents only’ door before you get to the rooms. with the room, i also got a (free) key for a padlocked personal security locker on the ground floor. they like you to leave the key behind when you go out but i prefer keeping it on me as it saves breaking the flow when taking a girl up to the room. security on the front door checks girls in. they ask you to check with them when you take a girl to a room (for your own security) but don't enforce this. drinks are very reasonably priced. food is tolerable but there are better options i felt in the vicinity. rooms serviced daily. pool tables on ground floor and first floor. chess available from the bar (if ben is reading this, thanks for the games – you should have won!) if you want to check out late, they have a standard charge of half the room rate up to 4pm. open and active 24hrs, 7 days a week. walkabout is on the crossroads of streets 51 (no.109) and 174. http://walkabouthotel.com/

2. tiko. if you cross street 51 from walkabout and continue 10 yards along street 174 you find this bar-restaurant-guesthouse on the left. it’s run by a nice middle-aged vietnamese woman and some of the rooms are impressive at $15. the downside perhaps is that she is married to a frenchman who can be drunk and a bit abusive to her so domestics were not uncommon when i was there. about as close to w'bout as you can get, as are two or three similar places.

3. cyclo. continuing along street 174, cross norodom boulevard and go north (left) a block to street 172. cyclo is a beautiful french-run establishment and the rotund and affable owner (jean pierre) reminds me of gerard depardieu in city of ghosts (only he’s cleaner and more upmarket than depardieu’s character). rooms (from $15) are exquisitely clean and well-appointed with modern furniture. the restaurant at its best is superb french cuisine and some khmer. (if the chef is out, don’t expect the same standards though.) nice crisp linen napkins. as it’s only a block from walkabout and heart of darkness, it’s ideal for those who like to slum it when out but return to nice crisply hygienic settings. cyclo also has a luxury suite if you’re travelling in a small party or just want to pamper yourself – very nice indeed. the main downside perhaps is that cyclo is near a noisy karaoke bar.

if you fancy the walkabout area, there’s no reason not to get a tuktuk to walkabout and let him run you around the hotels and guest houses (of which there are many) in the immediate vicinity – from a few yards away to a block or two away. most are around $15. flamingoes (just around the corner from w'bout) wanted $25 for a skankier room than walkabout so i didn’t stay there. there’s also a list of no-no’s that includes no washing clothes in your room. four seasons opposite flamingoes has a gym at $4 a day for visitors.

i had been planning to stay in the sisowath area for a while but when i went casually along to bogie and bacall’s (on street 136, just off sisowath), the owner dave managed to talk me out of it with his whining about letting people in and out for late night sts. the rooms are ok, clean enough, nothing special. the bogie and bacall theme doesn’t seem to extend beyond the name. i wasn’t impressed with his bar prices or his miserable attitude, but i no doubt caught him on an off-day (he was quite affable on another occasion). other people on the forum have found it an ok guest house. the $15 room includes continental breakfast. he also offers free laundry if you stay more than a few days.

another guest house i looked at nearby (street 110, no.27) was chi cha guest house. this is an indian or pakistani or bangladeshi place. the kitchen and entrance weren’t that inviting but the room, at $10 with a/c and a nice view over the street, was an impressive bargain.

but my first choice if staying in sisowath area in the future may probably be candy bar (street 136, nos 24-25). this is almost like an upmarket version of walkabout. very clean and enjoyable atmosphere. gorgeous girls (i took one home), straightforward barfines, and its 24hrs. it’s fairly newly opened and the guest rooms weren’t quite ready when i looked but they expect them to be open next month.

pdp
i’ve mentioned a lot of the options already, but here’s another run-down. for an up-to-date version, check it out yourself as it changes in the space of a month. mikados, dingos, seem to have shut. dv8 has moved a few yards and doesn’t seem to have on-site rooms but is fun even if the girls are a bit full-on. pp easy to explore, so you don’t really need a list of bars that much.

walkabout has a mix of uglies, do-able ones and stunners. it’s more competitive early evening when the girls enjoy a game of pool with their mates. remarkably, some people are unable to score here, sitting on a barstool like a terrified chicken, or walking over and interrupting the best looking girl as she’s about to pot a ball and propositioning her. but for anyone with a bare minimum ability to approach women it is easypeasy. they also talk to each other so you can establish a reputation (eg be nice to them in bed – much more effective than paying too much or buying them drinks imo) and get the best girls to approach you. the standard of pool is generally abysmal.

near walkabout – ie places you will see without a map as soon as you walk out – are many bars but some of them seem to concentrate on selling drinks rather than getting girls out with customers. having said that, shanghai’s is pleasant for its full-on a/c (most cambodian a/c is only barely better than a fan). heart of darkness (my favourite pp bar) is empty early on but still full of atmosphere. all it needs is an opium den and a side-room for russian roulette. after 12 it is hooching. mix of freelancers, tourists (including women tourists), gangsters and just people who go for the (first rate) dance music and dance floor. i have seen a couple of foreigners let loose in heart which is pretty stupid. they seem off their faces probably on amphetamine, having a wild time, looking like prats, and bumping into people. it is not the place to do that. i say this to one idiot, who has already been threatened by a beefy american after knocking into his drinks. i say it’s not the place to go mental. people can die here. he asks me if i want trouble, giving me a punch. it bounces off. i touch the bouncer’s arm and suggest that the pratt wants to go home. he’s ejected before he can get himself into serious bother. heart has some gorgeous women. check out, i’d advise personally, who you are competing with or if they are spoken for before making a move or accepting too much flirting from them. the standard of pool in heart is generally top notch.

if you carry on up street 51 past heart and take the next right you reach a street that runs parallel called street 49. turn left up street 49 for 2 blocks and you come to cyrcee club on the left (6pm to 2am). gorgeous women. make sure they are old enough (take your beer goggles off to check!) you can sit at the bar and get your dick played with by a couple of women for an hour or two. buy them the occasional (quite cheap, standard price $3) lady-drink or tip them if they get you off for instance. rooms on the premises as long as they trust you. if you take one home, you can avoid the barfine ($7 overnight) if you get her back within the hour. between heart and cyrcee are many knock-shops but they speak zero english so check your sign language or basic khmer is up-to-speed. if you don’t see them, ask a moto to ‘show’ you – then go back on your own to get a better price. some of these looked bonded, which is not to my taste. some are just a bit ugly. but the options are there.

you can walk to the sisowath bars from cyrcee but at that time of night you might as well pay $1 for a moto. from cyrcee, continue a few yards further north (left out of cyrcee) to the main road, street 130. turn right and you soon get to sharky’s. this is a large upstairs bar. it was far too americanised for my taste, and i didn’t find the talent that good, but a lot of people probably find it a good bar to just hang out. if you’re going further to martini’s, the moto will probably charge you $2 at this time of night. personally i didn’t find martini’s worth the effort. nice layout, some nice girls, but not worth going all the way up to street 95. however, it has a well-established reputation so probably worth checking out and making up your own mind. half way from 130 to 95 is the pickled parrot (street 104). another well-established place, 24hrs and with rooms on the premises but still my least favourite bar. it's as if it wants to pretend its not in cambodia. i also found the area rather unattractive and past its best.

there’s also a row of illegal brothels along the quay just south of the japanese friendship bridge, much like the ones between heart and cyrcee only more blatantly obvious. they’re open during the day.

food
if you’re near sisowath you can be spoilt for choice. around walkabout, i would recommend:

family soup restaurant – one block south. a big restaurant with two floors. the choices are barbecue and hot pot, both a true cambodian eating experience. you add the ingredients yourself at the table. (i found one english-speaking staff who was a help in choosing items.) junction of street 51 and street 184. you can also find a mini-market down this way for your 7/11 type needs.

suzume japanese kitchen and pub. a bit further down (near the junction of street 51 and street 254). friendly and authentic japanese food at very reasonable prices. there’s a walled cafe opposite called elsewhere that offers hammocks to relax in.

pyongyang restaurant. 400 monivong boulevard. (special enough to justify the moto ride away). awesome north korean eating experience with north korean arts show (song, dance, music) included. show starts about 8pm. menu can be a little intimidating but the food was outstanding.

on the other hand, if you just want average food more or less like it is back home, the likes of shanghai’s and sharky’s should keep most folk happy. or for an upmarket breakfast, go to the hotel just before monivong.

Compared to the rooms I saw at Flamingos ($25) and some of the rooms at Walkabout (about $14), rooms at these two guest houses (both $15) were much, much nicer.

(Walkabout does have some nicer rooms though as I found out later).

first, let me thank all of the guys here (again) whose excellent posts and pms made me less of a stranger to phnom penh than would otherwise have been the case.

i arrived on saturday night, exhausted from an enervating but enjoyable threesome the night before in manila (as described in the dragon slayer's forum), and the flights from manila to singapore and from singapore to phnom penh; so exhausted that i knew i could never last the duration of a true pub crawl. one of the true disadvantages of old age is that you just take a much longer time to recover.

i had a driver of a friend of mine meet me at the airport, so no hassle there, and i got through the visa purchase/passport control/baggage and customs formalities in about 10 minutes, which was a truly pleasant surprise. as was the airport, which is clean and reasonably efficient. the driver was waiting just outside with a sign with my name on it, so i was out of the airport and in the car within 20 minutes or so of landing.

following the recommendation of several people who had posted herein, i had booked a room for two nights at the riverside. for me, this was a mistake as i'm too old, too crotchety and have become too much of a lover of comfort to tolerate the dim stairwells, seedy looking rooms and the low end tourists frequenting the place. i'm not trying to start a flame war here. this hotel would have been fine for me when i was younger and life was an adventure. it just no longer is, and i knew i would never last two nights.

i did stay there the first night, and other than the above, have no complaints. the staff were courteous. the room, though shabby, was clean. about an hour after my 6:30 arrival at the hotel, i negotiated a 3 hour price with a tuk-tuk driver and headed to the walkabout since i knew, from having read this board, that it was too early to try most of the other places. walkabout, like the riverside, was just not for me, and i knew i would not hang around there long. i did meet and chat with a truly gorgeous woman, but she was not that friendly. when i asked her if the guy with whom she was chatting when i walked in was a boyfriend, she said: "no, just a customer, but he would not pay me $20 for short time so i told him i would not go with him." when i asked for her definition of short time, she told me one hour. again, from reading this board, i know that it's a ridiculous price, but i was curious and asked her how much for long time overnight? she immediately responded $50. i laughed, and got into a conversation with a french guy standing at the bar.

as an aside, i should add that after only about 36 hours in country, it's been a real advantage to me to speak french. most of the guys i have met, and there have been several so far, have been french, many are long-term residents, several own restaurants, and i've gotten some good advice from them.

at about 8:30, i clambered aboard my tuk-tuk again and headed to martinis. it was exactly as described and though i knew i was early, there were several ladies rep001tered around. in fact, i recognized one of the vietnamese ladies from a picture posted by one of the guys here. she was extremely friendly but i was not ready and headed for the outdoor bar, stopping by the food bar on the way to order a bruschetta with chicken, as i realized i had not eaten for hours.

the food was delivered to the bar and was not at all bad, and neither were the two ice cold coronas i drank while getting acclimated. as i was sitting there, fighting sleep and wondering whether to call it a night and get some rest, i noticed an adorable little spinner passing below the bar, and we smiled at each other. she came up, gave me a hug, started chatting and i figured this was as good as it was going to get given my somnolent state. she was truly beautiful: slim, nice-sized boobs, no baby, great face, and from seam reap. negotiated a long-time price of $25, which i know is about $5 over the top, but i didn't care. i was just too tired.

back at the hotel, things unfolded as expected. she was lovely, if a bit mechanical, moaning and groaning in all the right places and the service, if not intense, was satisfactory. however, by the end of it all, i was beyond tired and she wanted to watch tv as she wasn't tired at all, so i gently tossed her out, after paying the agreed up price. the truncated meeting was not her fault at all and she was perfectly willing to honor the deal. i'm the one whose mind was changed so i didn't feel ripped off.

i then slept for about 12 hours, stopped by one of the innumerable french cafes for crepes (excellent) and cappucino (also excellent) and made my way down to the hotel bougainvillier, on the same street and facing the river as well.

this hotel had been recommended strongly by giotto of the thailand/giotto forum and, as i know him to be a man of excellent tastes, i was ready to take his recommendation. it's a truly lovely hotel. french-owned with all the amenities including in-room internet and granted, it's three times the price of the riverside, but to me, it's worth it. the suites are all on the river and all have small balconies with chairs, and i will stay here for the rest of my time in phnom penh. plasma tvs on the wall, in-room safes, new furnishings, and in the middle of dozens of small, french restaurants. my kind of neighborhood. there are also dozens of bars on the street and around the various corners.

tonight, i was determined to hit sharkey's and perhaps le cyrcee, but wanted to check out a bar called the golden vine on street 104 beforehand. i had read a post by someone who swore that this bar, at least when he was there, had the best looking girls in town.

so, about 9:15 i hired another tuk-tuk and we found the place easily. it's impressive, and there were about 15 girls, which was a little crowded for such a small place. to make a long story short, i wound up at an outside table talking to a french guy who has been here numerous times but doesn't live here, and while talking to him, spotted another lovely little khmer girl. i wound up sitting around talking to this guy till 11 or so, and eating at le marmite restaurant next door, taking the little khmer girl with me. this one, who is now sleeping in my bed as a write this, turned out to be fantastic in all respects and well worth the $5 bar fine.

the bar is run by a no nonsense vietnamese lady, who speaks good english, no french, and is fun to talk to. many of the girls are stunners, and i have no idea if they're the best looking in town, but if you go there, i doubt you will be disappointed.

so far, having found a great hotel, i'm having a great time. the food so far has been excellent. the french wine is abundant, as are the ladies. tomorrow, it's sharkey's for sure, and then le cyrcee. after that. who knows?

Couple of good reports there chaps, can't understand why chris didn't like 104 street. Piclked parrot is good for food and sports, better than the gym bar with mr grumpy running it.

Rose bar in 104 has excellent food and nice girls, nightowl is open all hours and has the best lineup in PP, with some lovely virgins.

Bunny bar in 104 has really nice girls and no barang, and not forgetting chang bar with about a dozen filipinos.

Not for most of us here, a bit on the big side but nice faces and that Us accent grates a bit.

Midway bars on 108 on the corner of 51 inc golden vine always worth a look. Just to be pedantic chris, martini is south of the action off monivong near st 360 in toul sleng.

Lots of gems in the bars, they are all worth a look but for guaranteed satisfaction go to LCC or tahiti eden, no prima donnas there.

Walkabou always interesting, especially for breakfast, PP residents often ST there on the way to work.

Chirstopherd does not read properly, I live here and have up to date info always. Mikado closed more than 6 months ago, everyone in PP knows why, I said that eden had EX girls from various places.Well excuse me for opening my mouth and taking the time to try to write helpful reports. I didn't find your one-liner very clear. Perhaps not everyone on the board lives in PP. At least most people try to be polite, but as you are the expert I am more than happy to leave it to you to write the lot. I spend quite a bit of time taking notes while travelling, as well as contributing, but there are other boards on ISG that maybe welcome contributions more.

I enjoyed Good Enough's report - cheers, mate!

Chill out bro.

No one needs to flame anyone here, I just corrected you. I did congratulate you on a good report apart from the geography but this info helps everyone.

GGC is the place for all the best stuff but I do what I can to keep people on track. What PP locals are good at is having such a good time that petty disputes are rare.

Keep on trucking chris.

I'm getting somewhat acclimated now, both geographically and psychologically, and really enjoying the city, which is so much different in most respects than anyplace in the Philippines. For me, as an avid Francophile, the availability of French food and wine is enough to make me want to return.

I was having a beer yesterday afternoon at one of the smaller cafes on the Quay, and shooting the breeze with an Aussie of about my age. He introduced me to one of the ladies who works as a waitress in the cafe, but was off that day, and I offered her a drink. She and her sister sat at the table and had cokes, and I made a date to see her for lunch today. Very pretty 23 year old and I doubt seriously that anything's going to happen, but nothing ventured nothing gained, so we'll see.

I decided last night to continue with my bar exploration, and decided to begin a Sharkey's since it's one of the better known large FL bars that's always mentioned by guys who post here. The place reminded me more than a little of LA Cafe in Manila, except that it's smaller, cleaner, and plays better music. I got there about 10 and there were very few people: more men than women, and most of the women who were there were not terribly fetching. I did wind up talking to a very pretty girl in her mid-twenties, and I might have considered her, but she kept dividing her time between her sister, who actually worked behind the bar, and me, and eventually I just got pissed off and stopped talking to her after buying her a beer. I did not however, stop talking to her before she had introduced me to her even better looking friend who again, I would have considered grabbing, but the friend explained that she had a baby at home and would only go for short time. Not interested.

I then meandered over to DV8 which is around the corner from my hotel. It's a nice place, with about 25 ladies, but none of them really appealed to me, though they were friendly and aggressive. As I was already on a hostess bar roll, I decided to check out Le Cyrcee next, and was totally turned off by the mob of women surrounding me as soon as I walked in the place. Since they would not let me alone--I was the only customer in the place--and since I do not like being pressured, I had but one drink and left. I will not be back there.

The next port of call was Martinis, which again was surprisingly sparsely populated though there were several tables of Khmers and Vietnamese women. I spoke with several but no light bulbs went off in my head. Chatted with one extremely attractive local lady, but all she really wanted to talk about was money, which was a total turn off for me, so that conversation did not last long. I did meet a very colorful Swiss - French guy who told me that he had run a string of women with his 18-year old Brazilian wife in Geneva. Even if the story was total crap, which it probably was, it was an interesting way to pass thirty minutes or so. I think half the fascination with this lifestyle is the colorful characters we meet along the way.

By the time I left Martinis I figured that maybe I should check out Sharkey's again to see if more people had come. They had, but most of them were men. I did see and chat briefly with a cute young thing whose picture had been posted on this board a couple of months ago by someone else. She however, told me she never does long time for less than $40 and since this was not going to happen with me, the conversation was relatively short-lived, though pleasant enough.

By this time I was pretty tired, but not willing to give up, so I went back to the Golden Vine on 108. Same mamasan, same line up of very attractive ladies and the same lack of any pressure to do anything. I met the same French guy there whom I had met the previous night and again, we wound up sharing the single outdoor table. He was still with the lady he had taken from the bar the night I met him and told me that if he did any more screwing he was going to start to have serious concerns about his heart. I wound up taking the same adorable lady that I had seen the night before and the four of us shared a tuk-tuk back to the hotel, as his hotel is right next door. My lady was so delighted that I had come back that she raised her performance several notches.

I like this city. I like it's colonial French atmosphere, the friendliness of the people, the easy availability of great food and decent wine. It does seem to me however, that the whole P4P industry is more avidly commercial here than it is in the Philippines. The whole "willing suspension of disbelief" that allows you to pretend, at least for 12 hours or so, that the girl is with you because she really likes you--which is so prevalent in the Philippines--is more difficult to find here. My conclusion, after three days is that while this place is more culturally engaging, and more gastronomically appealing, as a mongering destination, the Philippines wins hands down.

PP certainly has excellent restauarants,if you want filipinos try chang in st 104.LCC is as a favourite of most people I know, less so now that it is indiscreet.

Most girls used to be sans panties but the other day they all had shorts, damn.
A mate of mine disliked it because he said that the girls were like cats, always liked cats.

The beauty of LCC is that the girls will always give you exactly what you want,no dillitentes like bar girls and freelancers.

I went with a newly-found French friend tonight to check out the bars on 136. He's a frequent visitor and he seemed to be well known at all of them, and, to my inexperienced eye, they're pretty much all the same. We tried Grand Palm, Bar 136, 69, Candy, Flora (at least I think that was the name) and two or three others on that strip. All seemed to have 20-25 girls who mobbed us on entry, but didn't pressure us at all to buy any drinks, except for ourselves. All had some good looking and some so-so ladies, and, with the notable exception that I'll describe below, all seemed willing to go out with us. In fact, in at least 3 or 4 of the places, the girls just asked me if I wanted to go with them. I declined in all cases cause I just didn't feel that magic spark, or maybe because I'm so sated from the last four nights (counting Manila) that I just didn't care. Whatever the case, no one appealed to me, but that's not to disparage the bars. They were good fun. Everyone was extremely friendly, and the street is an excellent place to kill an evening. However, these places reminded me of nothing so much as the Burgos St. bars in the Philippines, aside from the lack of dancers.

It had been three years or so since my friend had been to Sharkey's and we were feeling slightly hungry so we decided to go on a $1 tuk-tuk ride. The bar probably had more girls than last night, though it sure wasn't back at 10:30 o'clock. I saw a couple of ladies with whom I had chatted the night before, and they immediately homed in, but again, I wasn't in the mood and they blew out as fast as they had blown in. We also spoke for about 15 minutes to two adorable sisters, and they were certainly available, but seemed pretty indifferent to the whole thing, and I immediately figured that both would turn out to be starfish, so they walked away eventually as well.

Having decided that this would be a sleep alone evening, I was walking back toward the hotel when I saw the adorable waitress with whom I was supposed to have had lunch this afternoon. She told me her cell phone had been taken and she had no way of contacting me. Where have I heard that story before?

All in all, an enjoyable but ultimately profitless evening. Tomorrow I think it's time for Rose Bar and all the others on 104.

The lady from the Golden Vine called herself Lisa. About 5' nothing and truly beautiful, but sorry, I do not do pictures. There are four or five stunners, at least from my point of view at that bar, and the lady who owns it is a real trip. Honest, funny, and tolerates no bullshit from the girls, haranguing them about service to the customers. The French guy to whom I referred in my earlier post kept his lady for 48 straight hours and told me he had never screwed so much in his life. He's my age and, even fueled by pharmacalogical assistance, was totally wiped out after two days. The morning after the first night I spent with Lisa I took her to breakfast and then to the Central Market, where she helped me pick out something. I bought her an inexpensive pendant as well. She was just a lot of fun to hang out with.

Over breakfast at the hotel this morning I got to talking with another French guy who has lived here for years and who obviously has money. He said that every afternoon, around 4 PM, loads of girls from the countryside stroll along near the river on the riverside. He also said it's very easy to get lucky if one happens to stroll at the same time. I think I'll give it a try, but I'm committed to seeing Rose Bar and the adjacent bars tonight. Getting there by tuk-tuk should take less than 10 minutes from my hotel.

Yesterday was a Buddhist holiday here, and many of the girls returned to their provinces for the day, so the selection was probably more sparse than usual. Time is getting short however, and there's little of it to waste, so I decided to head out to the vaunted Rose Bar and all of the similar establishments along the length of Street 104. This was a bad decision, and all in all, I would have been better off staying in my hotel room and reading a book. However, hindsight is always 20/20.

I found the street with no problem. It's a very short street, only a couple of blocks long, and I'm pretty sure I at least stuck my head into every bar, all of which are pretty much the same and all of which are similar to those on 108.

Rose Bar had only about 10 girls, one of whom was really appealing to me, and we we chatted for quite a while over a drink that I had bought her. Like so many of the girls I seem to meet here (don't know if this is just me or if it's a common experience) she told me she liked being "yummed" very much but did not like giving "yumyum." Well, thanks for sharing, but the night was young, and I was determined to find someone who admitted to actually liking the act, so I headed out to the others.

It was the same story in most of the places I visited. The quality of the girls was mixed, but each place had one or two who appealed to me, all of whom responded to the "yumyum" question identically to the girl from Rose Bar. There must be a national blow job reluctance gene here, or perhaps it's a cultural thing. I almost took a girl from a new bar, I forget the name but it's next to Shang, owned by a British guy, but she was so coy about when she would come, how long she would stay, what she would do, etc. that I said the hell with it and left. She did insist on giving me her number for some reason, but I doubt if I'll use it.

All in all I guess I spent about 2 hours on the street doing the mini bar tour. Each bar had, on average, maybe 10 girls, all of whom screeched as soon as a foreigner entered, and all of whom--trained doubtlessly by the same coach--shouted "handsome man." Maybe they were all auditioning for the same show. I found the entire thing more or less comical and not at all appealing. Sort of like the bars on Burgos street without the bikinis.

I was somewhat excited to visit Shang because I knew from some of the other posters here that it had some Filipinas. Well, that's true, but these are ladies who must have come here because they couldn't qualify for the bars in Manila or elsewhere in the country. I couldn't believe it. Out of a country of 40 million women, this is the best that the bar owner could do? A total waste of time for me and for anyone who has ever traveled to the Philippines and seen what's on offer there. I stayed in the bar for all of about 30 seconds.

Since I had become disillusioned with the bars on the street, I decided to check out DV8 which is just around the corner from my hotel. It's an attractive place, with maybe 20 girls or at least that's the number who were there last night. I latched on immediately to Ana, who is 21 and extremely cute and friendly, and decide that I'll take her for the evening, so we have a drink, I pay the $5.50 bar fine and off we go.

I will not regale the readers with what a total waste of time this was, but it was sort of like being in a room with a beautiful girl who has finally decided she might want to have sex, but isn't sure either how to go about and not really sure she wants to do it. Probably the worst, most pathetic performance of my life, and I finally push her off of me and go to sleep without saying another word to her the entire time she was in my room. It was more or less like trying to make love to an unresponsive piece of dead meat. I would have been better off just taking some money and throwing it down the toilet, thus saving myself the hassle of having to go out. I don't think DV8 and I will be seeing each other any time soon again.

So far, the only decent sex this trip has been the girl from Golden Vine and I may go back there this evening just out of pure frustration. First though, I want to check out these girls from the country that I heard about yesterday.

Everyday reconfirms the impression I shared in a prior post. This is a great town in which to relax. The food is wonderful and the people friendly. It's laid back in a way that Manila could never be and Bangkok once was but no longer is. However, from the perspective of our mutual hobby, though opportunities abound, they are at best mediocre or that's true at least for those that I've found. I don't do girls off the street anywhere so I cannot say if this holds true for the taxi girls to whom others have referred. From our shared perspective, this is the lowest overall quality of service that I've seen in any SE Asian country that I've visited, and I've visited most of them, perhaps all. The approach is overtly commercial, the sex a best fairly mechanical and uninspired and all in all, just not exciting.

The ones you said walk along the river?

Have you gone to Martini yet? That was always the most happening place I'd seen in PP. There are plenty so-so girls there, but with SO many there on any night, you're bound to spot one that's right for you. There are also the karaokes that offer takeout -- one is at the hotel that has Casa Disco, it's upstairs. There's others like this around town, have to dig a bit in the forum to get details. But that one had about 50 girls sitting waiting to be selected last time I stopped by, which is pretty standard for these kinds of places. They're Vietnamese. VN tend to be better at customer service than the Khmer girls. Not sure which ones you're getting. When in PP, I never bother with those 104 St bars, or others up there. For me it's always Martini plus exploring any new spots I've heard about. Small bars with just a few girls who may or may not be willing to go, for me, is a waste of precious time.

Thanks. I took one out of Martinis my first night here. The experience was okay, but nothing to get wound up about. I went back a couple of nights ago though it was pretty early (around 10) and just couldn't get excited by anyone I saw, whether Vietnamese or Khmer.

There seems to be somewhat of a disagreement about Vietnamese/Khmer girls. Some guys on this board think that the Vietnamese are by far the more greedy and commercial, while others, like Wendella, feel that they give the best service. I'm not sure which I agree with since I've not sampled the Vietnamese take out yet from here, though I did live in Hanoi for a while and had ample experience there.

I might wait until a bit later tonight and then hit Martinis. The karaoke stuff is not really my scene, here or in the Philippines.

I think the VNs have a stereotype which is only partly deserved as I personally don't feel it makes sense to categorise a whole race. On the whole I find them more clinical, more money-orientated, and less instinctively trustworthy than the Khmer girls. But contrary to type, one of the best punts I had in PP was with a VN girl, who wasn't any of those things. In contrast, I had a VN girl maybe the 2nd night I was there who wouldn't stop talking during sex, and all of it about upgrades and so on, not sweet talk. I just put a hand up and asked her pointedly if she was Khmer or VN (as I think she knew Khmer girls rarely if ever act like this). It shut her up, thankfuly.

Exactly. My last trip I only took 2 Khmer girls back. The first was pretty good, but when I asked the other one for a blowjob, she just looked at me and said "But I'm Cambodian!" I rarely RARELY take Khmer girls out anymore unless I'm confident in their service skills. This includes a lot of questions to the girl, and just a general chemistry we have with each other inside the bar. I never have to worry about any of this bullshit when taking a VN girl.

Goodenough -- don't bother with those little bars. They suck, and not in a good way. Many girls just want you to buy them drinks all night, and they are very VERY coy about everything. I once took a girl out of Rose for longtime and when we got back to my hotel she said that she had to leave at 4 am to visit her sister. Kicked her out immediately. There are cuties in those bars but it's hit and miss with service, and many of the girls are just too lazy to be barfined and do actual work.

Stick to the places where you don't have to deal with the nonsense - Martini's, Sharkey's, and Heart of Darkness. The latter two don't really get happening until around 11 pm. Hell, I've pulled hotties out of Heart at 3 am. You can go in, talk to the girl for a while, and go back to your hotel if you want. No worries. Hell, even Walkabout has a few cuties (VN) upstairs. PP is a good place for mongering. On my first visit I absolutely hated it, but I've been four times now, and I've learned to love it.

The blow job thing is cultural all right, the khmer are very conservative. Things willl change slowly but this is a country where most marriages are still arranged.

If a girl is no longer a virgin, or has a child out of wedlock or has even been divorced then she is a srey koich.

A broken woman or taxi girl.

Of course there is an incredible double standard because all the men play up and if they have money they have multiple wives.

The viets on the other hand seem to have a tradition of blow jobs, people will tell you that they have practiced since childhood with brother, uncle, father whoever-I do belive this is true, however uncomfortable it may make one.

Western type age of consent laws are fairly recent even in our countries, they don't apply here to locals.

As for bad service by khmers, well I don't think the level of service is worse than any other country really. Those who live here have no complaints but we do have much better radar and we do go to places like eden and LCC, why others dislike aggressive service providers beats me.

The golden boss has some lovely girls, further along the riverside from 102 and the casa club near what phnom has seriuosly baeutiful girls including many viets. The casa disco doesn't really get going until midnight but it is a great venue, the boss kicks off earleir.

The rock nightclub on moniving, not far from martinis has a very good karaoke section with tons of girls and if one can speak khmer then the karaokes have many very willing gems. The X2 chain seems very popular and karaoke girls don't have the BJ problem I am told.

If one lives in PP and speaks khmer then every woman is available really, the choice is endless.

last night i decided that i would check along the river for these "country girls" about whom i had heard from others, and assuming that would not work out, would head to martinis and then, if that failed, back to golden vine to grab the cuties i had taken before.

i went for an hour's stroll along the river to the quai and though there were several adorable females sitting and chatting along the wall, i got no particular encouragement from any of them; a few tentative smiles perhaps, but no eye contact and no tacit signal that these girls were looking for anything but a little quiet time along the river. i did get asked by one of the motorcycle taxi guys there if i wanted a girl, but didn't pursue it. i think i will check out these scene again this evening just in case i went there on an off night, but i don't think there's any joy to be had.

yesterday, while having lunch, there were two very pretty girls who walked into the restaurant shortly after i sat down. i was at an outside table and they selected the table adjacent to mine. i started to talk to them on some pretext or other and they both came to join me at my invitation. one was a university student and the other slightly older, and had finished her studies. i was more or less working on the older girl and we were getting along fine, when suddenly she glanced at her watch, said something to her friend and then turned to me and said: "i have to go inside the restaurant. my fiance will be passing here in a few minutes and i don't want him to see me at the table with you." then she told me that though she was "taken" her friend was not. i decided not to pursue it any further. it had not cost me anything but a few minutes of my time and i enjoyed the conversation. it did however raise the issue for me of how easy it might be to find "normal" women if i had more time. i don't think, at least based on that encounter, that it would be very difficult.

i got to martinis a bit early again, mainly because i was bored and wanted to hang out in a different neighborhood. at 9 o'clock there were a dozen or more ladies rep001tered around, and i got approached by several, including a mamasan, but declined all invitations and decided to sit at the bar, drink a beer and watch the movie sporadically.

by 10, a steady stream of new girls had started to arrive and there were several who caught my eye. one khmer girl in a red dress was especially appealing and i watched as she went into the disco. i followed her in, partially because i had not gone there before and partially to see who else might be lurking on the dance floor. the disco is small, dark, and not very appealing, and my nostrils were immediately assailed by the unmistakable odor of grass, which surprised me slightly. the red dress girl was dancing, but i approached her and asked if she would have a drink with me. she said she would meet me outside in ten minutes.

i left, sat again in the bar area, and noticed three very pretty women by the pool table. true to her word, ms. red dress came out about ten minutes latter and she was indeed lovely. twenty years old and a student. but there was simply no chemistry, and she was more interested in dancing, so i sent her back inside and started to talk to one of the three lovelies by the pool table. one, named linda, was simply gorgeous. a khmer, nineteen years old. again though, while she was friendly and obviously ready to boogie, the chemistry just wasn't there, and i figured that if i took her she would want to leave immediately afterwards to rejoin her friends.

it was shortly afterward that i noticed diana, a beautiful, short khmer girl. we started talking and i decided this time, i was not going to leave much to chance. over a drink, during which she was touching me constantly, i asked her about khmer girls and "yum-yum." she told me that some liked it and some did not, but that she "really liked it." that was all it took. we left about 11. she was extremely cute, bubbly, and just fun to be around and i was starving, so i took her out for a late dinner before heading back to the room.

the subsequent performance(s) were, if not outstanding, certainly high grade. true to her word, the oral sex was enthusiastic, lengthy and unprompted. when i switched to daty, she went wild and that's when it all started to get intense and fun. all in all, an excellent, inexpensive evening; one that i think i will repeat tonight. i have her cell phone number, and she's more than willing to return. on the other hand, i think i've about figured out martinis and how to work it, so i might just go fishing there again.

Thanks Phil. Of course, as indicated, I don't live here and speak no Khmer, so my options are much more limited than yours. I've seen several references to LCC. Can you please explain what it is and how to find it? Regarding the Golden Boss, can you provide a little information on this as well? Is it a bar. A karaoke-type place? Will any tuk-tuk driver be able to find it.

Thanks for the information. It's appreciated greatly.

There is a huge difference between Vietnamese girls in Phnom Penh and ones in Hanoi. They may as well be from different countries. Aside from cultural differences, and there are already drastic differences between the north and south of Vietnam (where all these girls who are in PP come from) -- there is also the way they're trafficked -- the vast majority come from poor parts of the Mekong Delta region, and many if not most (if not nearly all) go through a kind of pipeline. Keep in mind, they're going to Cambodia for the express purpose of working in the sex trade. So where ever they end up, they get trained. That's how they end up with their blow-job skills.

So they actually tend to be 'better performing' because they've been trained to be, and also more hardcore/cutthroat/businesslike/etc. because there's no gray lines for them -- this is purely business for them. No illusions. They didn't come to Cambodia looking for a foreign husband. They came to make money. I think if the Khmer girls had to come illegally into the country and were at the mercy of a system that was intent on turning them into 'good performers' then they'd be as good as the Vietnamese at what they do.

You guys are causing me to re-think tonight's program. I think I'll try instead to visit LCC, if I can find it, the Golden Boss, if I can find it, and perhaps Tahiti Eden, since I know where to find that. Might also try Casa Disco if my aging body can stay awake long enough without falling apart. Somewhere in there, I need to work in a visit to the Heart of Darkness since it's the only place I meant to go that I haven't yet been.

Just had an offer from an adorable little waitress to be my Khmer teacher. When I told her I would only take lessons if we could live together for a while, she asked me immediately how much I would pay her to live with me. I admire these ladies for always wanting to know the commercial implications first. I told her we would have to negotiate. When I left she called me "Darling." Must be because of my youthful good looks.

The golden boss is north along the river a few hundred meters from st 102,motos will know.

It just a disco I think, casa is close by near wat phnom where there is a karaoke and casino as well.

Since I have an early flight tomorrow back to the Philippines through Singapore, and since I'm too old for all nighters anymore, last night I decided, would be my last out on the town.

I started out at what has now become the familiar Sharkey's about 9, not with any great expectations of meeting someone, but because it's a decent place to listen to music, and I wanted Tex-Mex food. Unsurprisingly, I guess, I met another expat, who has lived here for five years or so, and was more than willing to share his perspectives on the city. He was an interesting guy, who often travels on his motorcycle to the provinces, and who seems content with his life here. His warnings to me sounded pretty much identical to those I give to newbies in the Philippines--cautions about not taking anything with the ladies seriously since in the end it's all about the money. We passed a pleasant hour or so comparing notes between the two countries and aside from the languages, from an expat point of view, the differences appeared few.

About thirty minutes into this conversation, I saw what had to be one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen -- About 5'7", dressed in very short shorts, with legs that wouldn't quit and a rack that was beautifully accentuated by the tight shirt she was wearing. I smiled, she smiled, came over, and had a soda. We spent a little while talking intermittently, and while she was truly gorgeous, little alarm bells were going off in what's left of my brain, warning me that she would probably look at sex pretty much as a spectator sport. Though my new expat friend said that he might be willing to spend $20 just to see her naked--and I can understand why--I decided to pass, since I've already had the starfish experience here and I didn't want to go through it again, no matter how beautiful the starfish.

After finishing the chicken quesadillas and saying goodbye to my new acquaintance, I decided to head out to Heart of Darkness. I knew it was too early, at 10:30, but I wanted to see the place. It's probably one of the more tasteful boites I've seen here, and it's the only place where I got frisked very thoroughly. The place was pretty much empty, with a one beautiful girl at the bar. However, she was obviously with one of the guys shooting pool, and I remember all of the warnings about the potential for unpleasantness at this bar, so I sat around, had a Corona, and left, thinking perhaps to return later when things got a little more exciting. The bar waitress explained that since it had rained most of the day, people might be late arriving.

Started out for the Golden Boss since the tuk-tuk driver said he knew exactly where it was, but changed my mind at the last second and decided to go to Martinis first. Why, I don't know, since I had taken a girl from there the night before as reported. The place was, while not packed, well populated with Vietnamese and Cambodia ladies, and I was sitting at the bar, thinking about what I was going to do. All of a sudden I became aware of a blur out of the corner of my eye, which turned out to be Diana, of last night's fame, running over and hugging me like we were married and had been unwillingly separated for the last several months.

I was not particularly eager to repeat the experience, though it had been excellent, and started to think of a range of excuses as to why it was not a good night for me. But then, she started fooling with my dick under the bar, stroking my leg, and I started to reconsider, switching brains while doing so from the big to the small. In the end, decided "What the hell" and took her back for the night which was, if anything, more intense and enjoyable than the night before.

I never did make it to LCC, the Golden Boss, Tahiti Eden and some of the others, but I've got no regrets. I had a great time and got to see most of the places I had intended to see. I think I'll come back in six months or so and perhaps pick up where I left off. Next time, now that I know the town slightly, I think I'll rent a motorbike.

Thanks again to all who helped make this a memorable trip.

Damn, I tried to make a last minute suggestion to GoodEnough last night hoping to catch him before he left. It looks like it didn't post. Internet was very funky last night, couldn't connect to many sites from here. Oh well. The suggestion was to not go to Casa DISCO but rather to go upstairs to the karaoke between 8.30-9.30 -- its upstairs from the hotel lobby. As you get to the top of the stairs you see the holding room for all the girls. There'd be way way way more available girls right here in this room around this time than would ever appear all night in the disco downstairs. The karaoke would be very happy to let you just view all the girls in a lineup and pick one, and then you could not even stay in the karaoke but take her directly back to your hotel if you want -- just pay a 'barfine' of $15 or so. And if you went into the karaoke, you could just take a room, order 2 drinks and try to get to know the girl before deciding -- the room cost would be the same $15, and then there'd be no barfine if you decided to take her out. You'd just have to pay for your 2 drinks. And no need to turn on the karaoke if you don't want to. Also you mentioned stopping in at Casa later -- if you went to the karaoke much after 9.30, it'd be diminishing returns -- the best girls get picked earliest, of course, so by late hours you'd be looking at the leftovers.

Oh well, next time.

Thanks Wendella for the thought, but I'm happy enough with the way things worked out. I've basically concluded that there's not a lot of difference among the various hostess bars, and not too much difference, at least in terms of quality, between Sharkey's and Martinis. I'm sure the karaoke places would have been more of same and, as it is, the choice was plenty broad enough for me.

For those who may be contemplating coming here for the first time, and who don't mind spending a bit on a hotel (this is not a put down of those who don't fall within this category) I strongly recommend the place that I've been staying for the past seven nights. Bougainvillier is right on Sisowath Quay, in the midst of lots of cafes and late night bars (DV8 is right around the corner). More importantly, it's just a great hotel. The service is excellent and extremely pleasant and the rooms are spacious, immaculate and attractive. I'm in a small suite which costs $96 a night, double occupancy, with a full breakfast included. Single occupancy for the same suite is $84, but the hotel will charge you the difference if you come back with a lady. Of course she gets breakfast too so it's not a total loss.

I had internet in my room which is allegedly $5 extra per day, but the hotel did not charge me. It worked reasonably well for the duration of my stay but was a bit slow at times.

Having lived for years in Paris, I'm pretty much of a Francophile in all respects, and I guess the fact that the hotel is French owned, and operated in very much of a French/Cambodian-colonial style, attracts me as well. For anyone who may be interested, the phone number is: +855-23-220-528 and the email address is: bougainvillierhotel@bougainvillierhotel.com. It's worth every cent of the cost. Thanks to Giotto of Thailand fame for recommending the place.

I stayed in the Bougainvillier end of last year, and whilst I mostly agree to what you have said (although I left after two nights, building next to Bouganivillier was under construction and the noise from 8am to 5 pm was unbearable) I should add that the Bougainvillier at least at that time was not that girl friendly. They demand an ID, even if it is absolutely clear that the girl is of legal age; and whilst this sounds pretty reasonable most girls at Sharky's and Martini's (especially the Viet ones) doesn't have one.
Other than that it's been quiet, clean and pleasant alright and the staff was sympathetic with my problems about the construction noise.

Folks,
I gotta head back to Phnom Penh soon and I'm up to some new experiences besides the usual known Highlights.
Last time one of the Tuk-Tuk drivers recommended to look for girls in the area around the Monument. That Tuk-Tuk driver spoke barely English and was a rather questionable figure, but after awhile I agreed and he took me to some ragged-down construction near the monument.
My alarm bells went off, but since I was already there I decided to give it a try - I do not carry a wallet or a phone in PNH and less than 50 $ in cash, so what the heck.
I was asked to sit down in some small and really dirty parlour while the Tuk-Tuk driver conversed with two pimps. No girls to be seen.
They then ushered a girl in - late 20, considerable Overweight and pimples. Total turn-off, I politely refused.
After another 10 minutes as I just got ready to go they showed another girl in which wasn't particulary my style but worth a look - about 21 to 24, slightly chubby, but enormously dressed up with Skirt & stockings, hair dyed dark blonde and hardened like a rock with hairspray.
I showed cautious interest and was offered the girl for 60 $.
Of course I declined (the Tuk-Tuk driver drove me the night before and had to know that I know a bit of the city and the going prices) and started to go. The girl was offered again for 35 $ (which is still too much, on a scale from 1 to 6, 1 being the best, she was a 3). I got out and actually expected trouble which then never came.
Driver tried to talk me into it, but I made clear that I want to go to Martini's THAT moment or never, so eventually got going.
Still, on the way I saw a few girls walking in the shades and may have been interested but figured that Imight have stretched my luck already that night.Does anyone know whether there is something worth going for in the Monument area ?
Any explanation for the outrageous price ? Even Viet pimps never tried to charge me more than 25 before.
Grateful for any insight by the locals, LOL. Kennny

Hi Kenny, while I do not know about 'most girls' I do know that replacement of ID seems to now be an expensive exercise. Someone I know had hers stolen and is being quoted $250 (including all associated bribes in provinces) for replacement. She is not Sharky's or Martini's but it appears that everyone is cashing in on the replacement ID scam (didn't use to be that bad but I guess that's progress). I think there will be more and more girls without IDs moving forward.

... I should add that the Bougainvillier at least at that time was not that girl friendly. They demand an ID, even if it is absolutely clear that the girl is of legal age... Whether or not the girl is of legal age, that's your business. But if the hotel checks the identity of the girl and retains her ID until her departure, that's for the security of you and all the other guests. The Cozyna Hotel which is right next to the Bougainvillier and only a third the price will make a call to my room before letting her go, and I appreciate this service. A few years ago I stayed at a popular hotel in the Walkabout / Heart neighborhood where anybody could walk in and out freely. I won't go back for that reason.

softlover,
i am aware of that and appreciate it - this way the girl can't walk out in the middle of the night with your wallet.
but demanding factual id is something i have only seen in the bouganivillier, except to where there may be doubts whether or not the girl is of legal age.
i actually kind of disagree with you here, the more hoitel staff watches out for obvious **** girls the less this will be a problem. i do enjoy young fresh chicken myself - but of legal age, taking out 12 or 15 year olds seems absolutely inappropriate to me.

This protects you and the establishment. This practice exists in many countries, and I appreciate it. During my first real trip to Rio, I protested. The manager pulled me aside, and, in English, explained problems prior to the policy. You certainly do not want to be in a position to have to explain to the local authorities or the U.S. Department of Justice because no one checked ID.

I will be in PP next week and I am looking for a hotel.

Last time (2007) I stayed at New York Hotel on Monivong Blvd but would like a change this time!

Does anyone recommend Cozyna Hotel? I see that it is mentioned a few posts ago. The riverside location looks good!

I don’t need 5 star accommodation, just somewhere with a good location, clean with a/c and a reasonable shower!

I have been checking the web but many of the hotels seem to have terrible reviews!

Anyone stayed in Cozyna recently?

I would welcome your comments (or alternative suggestions! )

Thanks,

ok, not quite the races. and walkabout isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. but this is a field report of a 24hr stint that included three games of chess and several shags in-between, just to show how convenient it is. i don’t go to a country primarily for the sex. i just like it available – when and where i want it – eg after coffee, before lunch, when i wake up, before i go to sleep, with tlc or with meaningless gymnastics. and so on. for those of similar mind that don’t require top-class hotels, it’s a reasonably good deal. walkabout has a range from ugly-enough-to-put-you-off-your-food to extremely-sweet-and-do-able. and you can always pop in to heart of darkness for a late night easy-upgrade.

i arrive at walkabout at about noon. haul my luggage all the way up the stair to check out the room before paying. a better room than i had been offered (and which i had turned down) before. $14. leave my luggage mostly unpacked and go downstairs for a coke. plus point: they sell it in bottles – the best sort – and only $1 a bottle. but before i get to the bar a girl called esowah approaches me on the stairs, oozing sex. what the heck. she’s 23yrs and pretty enough. pop back into the room for a quickie.

make it downstairs for my coke then nip out to sorea market for provisions and exercise and to see if there is anything worth the time investment. a couple of nice check-out girls that look possibilities but that would eat into my schedule too much. r1000 for a moto with a basket to take my shopping back to save walking in the heat. give esowah an affectionate grind on the way in. unpack essentials and meet ayah on the way out who persuades me back up the stairs for $15 worth. she tries to come but doesn’t quite make it. encourage her to frigg herself. she’s been sweet enough and invite her to help herself from the fridge (which now contains cookies, soft drinks, small treats and other little investments). she’s over the moon. i’m delighted at the response with such little effort (if i were staying longer i’d have flowers in the room and some nice joss burning and maybe some music.) we snuggle and give each other back rubs.

i need some fresh air so tell her i have to go out. someone on the forum has mentioned hun sen park. none of the tuktuk / moto drivers outside have heard of it (or rather they haven’t heard of it as soon as i say no find it, no pay for it). grab a game of chess. this guy ben is a better player than me but i manage to get the better of him. i think my psychological attitude helps – i constantly interrupt my own mental state to change perspective and i reckon it can throw others off balance too. eventually a moto proudly claims he’s found hun sen and we check it out. just the monument area – ok for a leisurely afternoon but i’d rather play chess than spend all afternoon hunting. back to walkabout and sex with a girl called threkone. she gets very settled in, determined to give me a great gfe/lt. i deduce that being a resident is helping me get better value from the girls. it’s less hassle for them, known variables, they’re back at the pool table without any travelling, and their mates have already vouched that i’m not a weirdo ax-murderer. but although it’s very sweet of her, i don’t plan to cuddle up and go to sleep early in the evening. nor do i want to watch khmer-dubbed cartoons with her. or let her patiently help me with my language skills. her skills in bed are adequate, but not enough to keep me interested for long bouts. so out she goes. i invent an excuse about work, just for politeness.

pop out to cyclo for dinner. bad choice. the normally outstanding french restaurant is missing its chef this early in the evening. the dish i get is not the one i order, even though it’s veal, and the meat is not cooked properly. send it back, my mood slightly ruffled. the food here at its best is outstanding and i had looked forward to recommending the place unreservedly. i nip back to walkabout to change. nyum, a girl from the other night, is acting huffy because i gave her more last week than i’ve offered her for a replay. i explain that i was being generous, that she had further to go (i was staying at cyclo) and, when she pushes her bluff, point out that she hadn’t stayed lt as agreed anyway so wasn’t that good value (shame, as she had a nice tight body, but lacking in attitude beyond teh initial attention span).

pleased i’m wearing trousers with big pockets. the walkabout keys don’t detach from the big triangle they’re attached to. i don’t like checking the key in to reception. when i take a girl back, i often like to get her to my room while she’s still playing bunny-in-the-headlights rather than breaking teh mood by waiting at reception. walk round to cyrcee and canoodle with my fave girl there for a few hours, then hang out at heart of darkness till 2.20am. back at walkabout i get pleasantly fondled by a girl as i eat some supper. but my attention is on my book and the fact that i have chosen vegetarian noodles as the least dangerous walkabout food-offering. the hard-on can wait for a better looking woman. grab a few hours sleep. downstairs for a coke. can’t see anything i fancy. then two girls come over, coaxing their friend who seems very shy. she is a delightful young honey, and i get a hard-on as soon as she sits down. i’m a bit wary as i haven’t determined her age yet, but her two friends are manoeuvring her adroitly and i can’t be so rude as not speak to her. she says she’s been eyeing me for two days. (great! girls love it when they feel they’ve ‘got to know you’ – and especially efficient if it’s with no effort on my part!) she really is the best looking woman i’ve seen for a while. at least this 24hrs. i ask how old she is and she says 22. i bear in mind that the doormen don’t let anyone in they think is **** but i want to double check her. i ask for her i.d. non-existent. i call the head barmaid / receptionist over and ask her. she is pleased i’ve asked, and assures me that this particular woman is definitely ok as far as she is concerned.

back in the room i can see young honey is definitely the age she claims. the muscle tone, the wrinkles here and there, as well as a maturity of manner now she’s relaxed. but i’m pleased i made certain for myself before going this far. we undress and her body is perfect except for marks across her shoulders and chest that look like torture marks from some years ago. our bodies blend and we session for about an hour or so. there’s been no mention of money and it is possibly the warmest, most affectionate f*ck i’ve had in cambodia. but i have to get to the airport. i leave it till the last possible minute and try to time it considerately. i squeeze some money into her hand as she leaves – almost to salve my conscience as i’m sure she would happily put it on a tab – i give what she can interpret as the standard fare or my rate plus a small tip. kisses and petting.

if i’ve missed out any details, ben won the next game of chess and i won the tie-breaker. when you get a set from the bar, make sure it’s a staunton one – the local style has bishops, pawns, queens and kings that have too little differentiation. i think pdp was 4-0 but i've been writing this without counting (and i wasn't really trying, plus i wasted a lot of time). not bad though :-)

I will be in PP again shortly and need to book a hotel.

Last time I stayed at New York Hotel on Monevong Bvd but would like a change this time.

I saw Cozyna Hotel mentioned a few posts ago.

The location looks very good and it has quite good reviews on some travel sites, but nothing recent!

I don't need 5 star luxury, just a good location, clean room with A/C, a decent shower and of course a comfortable bed!

Does anyone have any up to date information on Cozyna (or any alternative on the riverside.)

I would appreciate your help.

Hotman.

Does anyone recommend Cozyna Hotel? I see that it is mentioned a few posts ago. The riverside location looks good!

Stayed there many times. Great location if the pile driving has stopped from the construction on the river. For 1/3 the price of the Bougainvillea I think it's a relative bargain. Great service, clean bathrooms, nice staff and of course gf.

GoodEnough I think you mentioned that one night you and your Frenchman pal hooked up with a couple of keepers and he was staying in the hotel next to yours. That would be the Cozyna. Well, take his advice and give it a try unless you just have too much money. I cannot personally understand circumstance but I've heard of it.

BTW GoodEnough. Thanks for the great reports.

No. My French friend was staying in the Amanjaya (sp.) that was about $30 more per night than the Bougainvillier. It was actually two buildings or so up the street from my hotel. I noticed the Cozyna, but did not go in and so cannot comment on the quality or the rates. It is however, a great location, and the Riverside Cafe, to the left as you exit the building and on the corner of the street, offers free WiFi, which works quite well, and is a great place to hang out and sip espresso. DV8 is also right around the corner, and Sharkey's is less than 10 minutes by tuk-tuk from the hotel.

Thanks Stegno, for the kind words about the reports. I'm already planning my next trip there.

Hi guys,

You are both "scholars and gentlemen!"

I appreciate your comments and have now booked Cozyna Hotel. I will be there next week and will report on the hotel (and any interesting diversions) upon my return.

Last time in PP my favourite bar for a few early evening beers and a little R&R was Mikado, which I am told is now closed so I will be looking out for alternatives. I also want to check out the freelancers on the riverside.

Wish me luck and thanks again for the help and advice!

The pile driving finished long ago, but the fence still there.

Riverside is shit nowadays.

Try the Cara Hotel near Wat Phnom,

An excellent value at $35 odd.

At 500 riel ($0.13) for a fondle it might prove entertaining but barang would probably struggle to get this price. Has anyone seen if these ladies are well past there prime or still young?

The ones I've seen looked very pretty and almost respectable. How much 'fondling' is really going to go on outside Monument in full view of throngs of upmarket Khmers, families and tourists is another matter, especially if one's 'small talk' (see article) is limited to a few badly pronounced phrases.

Hi C,
I may be getting confused but I'd never really thought about going inside Independence Monument nor have I seen throngs of upmarket khmers around the monument - especially after sunset when things have always seemed dark enough to allow anything to be going on. Good to hear that they are pretty and so may go have a look-see soon.

I didn't think there was an 'inside' to it. It's the park that's popular*, stretching from the Monument to the quay. I've only been a few times. Varied from heaving busy (holiday) to busy (weekend) to just pleasantly busy. I'm thinking around dusk, not late on at night though. Maybe someone could pop over an' 'ave a look? ;-)

I was tired of the bar scene - they're all the same. So I got a moto driver outside Heart of D, and said I want a better selection (of course, in sign language, as I can't speak Khmer). He took me to a dodgy neighborhood, but inside the house complex, the mamasan called the girls, about 12 of them, all 6-9/10. I chose a fine Vietnamese chick (8) for $50. she wasn't that great, but it was a good first time experience at a brothel. The next day I went back to a different brothel (same moto driver, and I'm sure he gets some commission) and chose a Khmer girl (7) for $40, but she was excellent in service, plus BBBJ, which the Viet did not do.

Maybe I paid too much? but it was for better selection. some looked younger than I'm used to, but I didn't choose them.

Mikado closed more than 6 months ago, everyone in PP knows why,

Why? (I don't live there)

can't understand why chris didn't like 104 street. Piclked parrot is good for food and sports, better than the gym bar with mr grumpy running it.

Lots of gems in the bars, they are all worth a look but for guaranteed satisfaction go to LCC or tahiti eden, no prima donnas there.

Walkabou always interesting, especially for breakfast, PP residents often ST there on the way to work.

I don't like the 104 bars either. Much prefer the Martini setup of being able to sit somewhere without needing to small talk until I want to, with who I want to. The 104 bars just aren't comfortable for me. Depends a lot on the individual, I think. If you like small talk with lots of people, 104 probly excellent. If you don't like small talk, it's hell.

What is this Tahiti place? Haven't heard of that one. What's the setup? Where is it?

orange girls are young.

mikado short time hotel next door had at least four rooms rigged with hidden cameras and an editing room on the premises.

all girls taken into custody and got the usual [CodeWord125] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord125) and robbing by the police and then had to pay at least 100 dollars to get out.

owner needs 100k to leave custody.

tahiti eden on 118 not far from river, not too much small talk, all girls hardened vets and deliver exactly as promised.

we were talking the other night as to why most tourists follow the well worn sharkey, walkabou, martini trail.

can't really explain why locals prefer hostess bars, perhaps because we know many of the girls, perhaps because we are more like khmers than we choose to admit and hang around with old friends, perhaps we know the owners as mates, we enjoy certain bars for their music selection, perhaps the girls are better looking and more entertaining for us?

as well one can walk around and visit so many different places in an evening and they kick off early, not like martini or the heart.

i can't really explain but certainly most locals rarely go to martini or even sharkey. walkabou is popular for pokerdraw night and pool comp and a cheap lunch. apparently all bars on rue pasteur from alien to shanghai are to be offered market rates for their land and to be out by xmas. this includes the famous hod of course. pp is changing fast.

editor's note: i would suggest that the author or another forum member consider posting a link to this report in the reports of distinction thread. please click here (http://www.internationalsexguide.info/forum/announcement-reportsofdistinction.php?) for more information.

Sophies and Mikado closed down because of pressure from the NGO's on the RGC (Royal Gov't of Cambodia). They had rooms on premises for ST and that was the target. That is the reason La Cyrcee does not have ST rooms now. These 3 were the high profile ones coz they catered to barangs' sex vacations' and their activities with ST rooms fell into the new anti-prostitution laws.

See my posts on Cyrcee. First time I went there were definitely 'no rooms'. But once they recognise you as a regular or whatever it seems they appear (this happened for others as well as myself).

Officially, with the new laws, I guesss no such rooms 'exist'.

we were talking the other night as to why most tourists follow the well worn sharkey, walkabou, martini trail.i like martini for the wide selection, and the scene changing throughout the nite -- more come later, and just lots and lots to choose from. small bars can't offer that.

i can't really explain but certainly most locals rarely go to martini or even sharkey. walkabou is popular for pokerdraw night and pool comp and a cheap lunch. apparently all bars on rue pasteur from alien to shanghai are to be offered market rates for their land and to be out by xmas. this includes the famous hod of course. pp is changing fast.

that's some news about 51 (pasteur). not a huge loss for me. i expect it's a biz killer for the hotels near there, particularly flamingo. goes without saying for wallkabout. expect some of those places will relocate to new spots. hod for sure. shanghai probly. walkabout probly. the smaller bars perhaps not. i've stayed at flamingo a couple times, but it's not head and heels above other hotels to me. when in pp i spend much more of my time going around town than checking out that area.

by the way, as a local, can you recommend some more good places to eat? where do you locals tend to go? and what about for khmer food? curious to know about any good food there, but must say i haven't had much luck finding a khmer place that feels like this is the one.

thanks,

how you know that about the fate of the girls, owner?

phil istine is quite right on this. check the ngo reports, the sex-workers unions reports, the newspaper reports, and individual stories (which need some sensitivity to elicit - be prepared for tears and brave smiles). bush threw lots of 'anti-aids' money at cambodia recently with his usual proviso that it would also be anti-condoms (cambodians are already very pro-marriage - it's about survival). it was blanketed under a worthy campaign to stop trafficking of child prostitutes but extended to criminalise all brothel owning. police are part of the system that makes cambodia one of the most corrupt in the world (check the corruption and transparency indices - it's not that far above zimbabwe and the worst of the african nations). the result was the new law gave police powers to raid brothels, arrest girls, keep them for a few days without access to retrovirals etc, gang [CodeWord123] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord123) them, and let them go again. girls found carrying condoms are accused of being prostitutes and complicit and hence subject to the same treatment. the intimidation also allows the extortion to operate freely and it's often without even very much pretence at concealment. it's bad in pp but i found even more fear in battambang (where corruption has even closer links with old khmer rouge than the current ruling clique). most horror stories you hear about cambodia are only the tip of an iceberg.

Phil Istine is quite right on this.

Just in case I gave the wrong impression, I wasn't doubting his accuracy or sincerity on it, just wondering where he'd heard or read it. I would be interested to read up on it myself, so if you or anyone can point me toward which NGO's, sex-worker union reports or newspaper stories, I'd go check those out. I'm not one to try to turn a blind eye to how things really do play out. Have seen some particularly nasty things in Cambodia at different times, mainly years ago. It can be quite ugly, I know.

Crackdowns Well the crackdown on girlie bars resulting in a few being closed was just for openers. In the pre New Year dash for cash the cops raided one hotel and searched every room for drugs. Much to our amazement they found nothing and left without any tea money. The cops also raided a couple of establishments serving extra ingredients in their dishes. Rumour has it that two were found to have herbs on the premises and the cops got a sizable donation to their beer fund. Bar owners beware the clampdown on girlie bars will continue. Well informed sources point out that barfines could be next in the firing line. So hurry up and concoct those expensive non alcoholic ladies cocktails!

nine phnom penh bars you can no longer drink in
29-jul-2008
if beer came naturally from wells in kampot or kratie or kandal province , dick chaney would have been sufficiently entranced to move to phnom penh long ago. in fact, he wouldn’t have even needed to export the stuff to get texan rich. can you think of another city in the world where demand for the amber nectar can exceed supply to the extent that during this year’s khmer new year festival we almost ran out of beer?

so given that persuading the average expatriate urbanite to drink vast quantities of beer involves no marketing genius whatsoever, the number of bars that have gone to the wall over the years has been somewhat surprising.

none of these bars listed below are in robust good health. in fact, they’re all long gone and whilst some committed voluntary euthanasia, others definitely had their suicides assisted.

apocalypse now

classy chicks, cheap drinks and a level pool table were just three things this bar didn’t have during its notably peripatetic existence travelling to and fro along st 63 and thereabouts.

on entering the darkened room, one would be greeted by [CodeWord109] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord109)-coloured floor tiles, a wonky pool table and a number of unhappy looking vietnamese girls rep001tered about the moth eaten sofas or busily engaged in pampering, petting, smoothing, and smooching the battle-hardened *****mongers, silver swingers and other non-functioning and indigent expat inhabitants of the city who were dumped on stools next to a plywood bar.

presiding over this was a wheezy and degenerate pastis guzzling owner looking every inch the sleazy french pimp. he was a titan amongst bar owners (but only if we drop the last two letters) and a typical story involved an acquaintance of mine buying the man a beer so as to practise his french – and then being charged for a $3.50 ladydrink.

rumour had it that punters who couldn’t afford to shell out $5 for a trip to the short time room received the answer, ‘you do me in the toilet.’

all this combined to leave a desolate impression reeking of low end commercial sex and stale flatulence.

reason closed? the owner was sent to jail for trafficking

tom’s irish bar

close to the sihanouk/ st 63 junction, tom’s was a highly agreeable corner bar with a terrace that managed to catch a late afternoon through wind and resembled one those irish theme pubs to be found everywhere in the uk - except that it was thousands of miles away in the tropics.

the walls were adorned with camán’s, dusty sepia photographs from gaelic football matches gone by and other assorted irish nick-nacks. a couple of genial hounds had the run of the place and the cheery owner was usually in attendance.

tom’s would be alien territory for the new breed of snobby, young trustafarian ngo types, yet an older breed of ngo workers were this bar’s core clientèle - people who arrived in cambodia when it wasn’t such a sexy and fashionable travel venue of choice for twenty-something vultures with sociology degrees.

reason closed? tom passed away.

george’s nightclub and kebab house

owned by a lebanese chap (‘choose wisely my friend but the fat one is mine’) this proposed behemoth of a bar sat astride the wat phnom traffic circle (these days the haunt of ladyboys and not much else).

intriguingly george’s tried to go head to head with the heart for the elusive late night freelance dancing ladies custom and this high risk strategy actually worked during that time the heart was closed for renovations.

whilst everything was going to plan there would often be a multitude of steel panther suvs crouching outside, and inside one would find wealthy khmer men yakking nonsense while slurping jumbo jugs of angkor beer, local manikin dusky disco dollies cavorting around poles and lots of old white blokes watching the disco dollies, jaws agape.

yet even then, one had the feeling the george was getting a little over-extended by ill-advisedly spending the gnp of laos on the world’s most expensive juicer and not much less on importing a state of the art kebab machine that for some reason wouldn’t work in cambodia

and then the heart reopened and george saw the freelance dancing ladies return en masse. rule one of owning a nightclub is this. the western guys just go where the khmer girls are no matter how dangerous the venue, no matter how rotten the music is and no matter how overpriced the drinks are. and the khmer girls went back to the heart.

towards the end, george’s succumbed to the baleful embrace of failure and was deserted by the paying public. whatever the opposite of a purple patch is, this bar had it. in fact, sam campbell’s life story performed naked on ice would have attracted more customers.

reason for closure? the heart reopened.

chez johnny

‘avec chauffer’ read the ad in the press for this french owned bar on st 108. avec cock out too, customers discovered to their horror when the notoriously exhibitionist owner (johnny) came into view, trousers all too often dragging around his ankles.

he wasn’t the healthiest of specimens was johnny, which was hardly surprising considering he gave the impression of subsisting solely on cheap whiskey, sex, drugs and whatever he found when he woke up face down on the floor the next day.

he was laying flat on the bar one night and someone asked me if he was paralytic. i didn’t have a clue. that’s what he always looked like at 11pm having lost his daily duel with the whisky bottle.

however, who said that the age of chivalry was dead? how could it be when johnny was always willing to lend his own distressed mezzanine bedroom for $10 short time liaisons?

this tragicomic train wreck of epic proportions finally ended when the local constabulary rolled up and found numerous vietnamese ladies without the proper paperwork and more disturbingly a loaded firearm hidden under a bed.

reason for closure? owner jailed.

round the corner

a no frills ‘hole in the wall’ retro bar where the star attraction was an eski full of beer-on-ice, and where, if you stayed for a decent drinking session you’d no doubt have spent more money on your beer than the owner had spent decorating the place.

this sadly missed boozer (round the corner from the walkabout) was a shining example of the ‘old skool’ phnom penh drinking den.

it’s hard to imagine nowadays, but there was once a time when nearly all bars were like this and it’s harder still to imagine a better place to have got drunk on a weekend afternoon. in fact, one saturday afternoon i got so drunk that you could have nailed a mouse to my forehead and i wouldn't have known till the following tuesday.

reason for closure? the owner moved to afghanistan.

mikardo club

phnom penh’s long standing and notorious bastion of sleaze - and a venue known to pamper its patrons with a range of services seldom available inside other bars - finally had its door closed a couple of months ago.

this dark and tatty elephant's graveyard of bar girls, a final resting place for the raddled superannuated slappers reduced to working panty less, was to the casual eye the natural habitat of single male sex tourists nursing a lonely beer while their travelling pal was being vigorously entertained upstairs.

for above the ghoulishly dark mikado was an attached hotel, which whilst not having plywood rat hole cubicles, was slightly crap and down at heel despite the mirror ceilings which were there, apparently, to cover sophisticated camera equipment shooting footage. this footage, when transferred to vcd, later turned up at market stalls all around town allowing the owner a secondary income from phnom penh’s underground but roaring trade in diy sex tapes.

the end, when it came, was crisp, clear and categorical. the khmer owner, the raddled tarts and the waitresses in their ill-fitting kimonos were all hauled away by the police and the bar was jugulated there and then.

and with this bar’s closure, so ended the days of foreigner orientated ‘in house’ recreation bars

reason closed? a police raid leading to the owner’s imprisonment.

souvenir bar

not a place for pampered ex-pats whining about the hardships of living on $5000 a month in phnom penh but this riverside novelty bar (beer and burgers outside, a smorgasbord of tacky souvenirs inside) a block south from the fcc was beloved of english teachers (and other people who wear their cheap charlie badges with pride) seeking value for money - and no wonder when beer only cost about ten cents more per can than in the supermarket and each beer came with a free riverside view.

the only downside was the tawdry procession of invalids and glue sniffing orphans.

i’m no psychic but even two years ago i guessed that a tsunami of gentrification would sweep over the riverside. and so it came to be. souvenir bar has been discarded like an old plastic coffee cup for something newer and shinier, most probably a chi chi restaurant where most starters will set customers back more than it used to cost for a night of anchor jugs and burgers at the old place.

reason for closure? the times they are a changin’

my lien

in marked contract to nearby apocalypse now, there were no pock-marked old slappers to be found in this bar, which, to a large extent, functioned as a respectable dating agency for perky young vietnamese waitresses in search of a solvent western chap.

this ineffably homey bar, situated on a quiet, shady boueng keng kang side street was manna for the after-work expat crowd and my lien herself ran a tight ship, keeping both girls and customers firmly in line. she also thought up the excellent idea of charging $1.50 for a beer but then doling out a free one after every three drinks. all in all, the perfect place for a boeng keng kong sundowner and the food wasn’t bad either.

reason for closure? the owner sold the bar and to open a hostess bar elsewhere.

peace cafe

i seem to remember peaceman running a good bar once upon a time, although maybe i dreamt it?

of course this was before he got started bumping fists with the world, before he began bathing in bitterness, before his proneness to get punchy in public and before everything he did became news. (bad news.)

there was a time when you were more likely to find an accidentally discarded chicken nugget on the floor of his bar than a crumpled nugget of burnt tin foil, but those were they days of the peace café when he was a talented and extremely hardworking bar owner.

he was a good cook too, back when he knew a few recipes that didn’t involve heating up cocaine and baking powder to make crack, and his bar was unique in that ngo staffers rubbed shoulders with teachers who clicked glasses with tourists, flashpackers, khmers and anybody else fortunate enough to find out about this little oasis at the far end of st 63.

and who can forget the legendary peace cabarets (peaceman’s attempt to introduce phnom penh to the busking scene) with umpteen musicians shuffling around a tiny stage or for that matter the bum n draze gigs, or the movie premieres or the best quiz night in town?

let’s be candid. the peace café was a fantastic little bar which at the time of its demise deserved a state funeral and a 21 gun salute.

reason for closure? end of lease and relocation.

some of these bars are fondly missed whilst others were crap enough to make staying in the new going out, but the big question is this. if khmer 440 readers could play god, which bar would they like to bring back to life for one last night? which phoenix should rise from the flames for one beer-soaked evening only? round the corner leads the zombie pack for this writer, but what do you think?

Brothel busts drive sex workers underground
Police crackdown on brothels ahead of a US review of Cambodia’s [CodeWord909] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord909) status, raising doubts about who benefits from the show of force.

just in case i gave the wrong impression, i wasn't doubting his accuracy or sincerity on it, just wondering where he'd heard or read it. i would be interested to read up on it myself, so if you or anyone can point me toward which ngo's, sex-worker union reports or newspaper stories, i'd go check those out. i'm not one to try to turn a blind eye to how things really do play out. have seen some particularly nasty things in cambodia at different times, mainly years ago. it can be quite ugly, i know.

not at all, just trying to be helpful. you can get most of it by googling (there's online newspapers in english and many groups have their own webpages). i travel alone and spoke to and got to know as many people as i could in cambodia in various walks of life. some patterns emerge and the same stuff comes up repeatedly. there's also ngos that know what they're doing and those that don't have a clue. i've also consumed about half a dozen books on cambodia - the ones by respected journalists are especially helpful. and i found absorbing the complicated history very enlightening - otherwise it was hard to make sense of khmers' allegiances and their often seemingly incongruous smiles. one of the reasons i stay in ratholes like walkabout i think is that less is covered up and i find what's really going on more interesting than the sanitised versions on sisowath or the 'nicer' parts of towns. but it's not for everyone. i don't blame anyone that just wants to pop in to a nice hotel and get some pussy served daily without too many questions! i find digging deeper more satisfying in the long run, but not everyone has the time for this.

there are horror stories that don't bear thinking about. "what's that building?" i ask my english-speaking ex-army moto driver in the countryside on the way back to battambang. "it's for children who have been raped," he says quietly.

Hello All,

I've been searching old threads and can't seem to find any info on this. Interested in finding a massage parlor/fishbowl in Phnom Penh. I heard of some hotels that used to have them, but i dont have any solid information.

Ideally a parlor that service BBBJ and FS.

I'm heading out there in several days.

Thanks in advance.

I'm sure there must be some but a lot will have closed down or become more surreptitious with the new law. I don't mind keeping massage and happy endings separate unless they're spontaneous, but if I wanted the two together I'd go for the area down from Cyrcee, and southwest towards the strip. Most are cheap n a bit nasty, or temporary garage+cubicle affairs, but a couple on the cross streets offer 'massage' with an obvious eye on something more, as do girls near the Heart of Darkness part of the strip and elsewhere. But I think the traditional upmarket (Thai-style) fishbowls will be shrinking. Somewhere like Candy Bar is currently straightforward - look for one you like, get a smile, then find the mamasan or someone who speaks English. It was only carry-out a few weeks ago but I reckon short time onsite should be available as it is in Cyrcee if you are trusted. But maybe someone has seen a proper fishbowl in PP recently?

Hi SS,
the most easily accessible fish bowl is in Chip Lay Hotel that is within spitting distance of Walkabout. As you leave Walkabout go around corner to your right. Ask at reception for massage and they will point you to the lift/stairs. I have never tried it and the attitude of the girls has been reported as being not so good (but this, as always, will depend on the girl).

Good luck

There used to be a big fishbowl massage upstairs in a hotel that I think was called New Paris Hotel... this a ways out westward... does anyone know which hotel I'm talking about? Or the street name? It's a major street that I think is used to head to the airport. I went upstairs and did see a fishbowl there one time, a few years ago. Still there? Dunno. It wasn't anything amazing, I passed on it. Catered to Asian customers.

Are you talking abut the Paris Hotle located on Kampuchea Krom? If you are, the bowl is on the third floor. It is $5 for a massage and extras will cost you more.

The scooter guys who park outside the hotel can hook you with some factory workers. I aint shitting you. One scooter guy took me to a factory girl who was getting off of work. The girl was hot as hell.

Therses heaps but not for Barang. One street back from Sihanouk there are two, one is the Sakura and the other just west of st 63 has a Khmer name. There are seperate Khmer, Viet and Russian sections.

Down in Daun Penh there is the Heaven Hotel on the corner of, I can't remember but its near Norodom, one block back.

Theres the new york of course.

All the big asian hotels have them, shitloads of them but you would have to be asian to go I think.

Across at Chroy Changva there is the Washington Hotel, sounds great but I don't think that we can go.

I know of one place has a whole floor of young girls, but of course we can't go, luckily.

hi c,

i may be getting confused but i'd never really thought about going inside independence monument nor have i seen throngs of upmarket khmers around the monument. especially after sunset when things have always seemed dark enough to allow anything to be going on. good to hear that they are pretty and so may go have a look-see soon.

hawkorange girls are from the past, like teukalok girls. maybe again in the countryside but not anymore in phnom penh. this article was write by ngo cwcc. so for those who are adventurous it s a good plave to be catch in picture and registred. i wonder also why they don t talked about teukalok girls. who are also very numerous in hun sen park and all around phnom penh just 4 years ago. i just came back from phnom penh 2 days ago and didn t see any sign of orange girl. all my friends living here from more than 15 years and was regular of orange girls called it #the good old times#

personaly phnom penh is just a rip off place, and not a good place for mongering in peace. in walkabout, sharky some girls are clearly ****. , if you like matured girls in their 30s i recommended you the pretty and sweet viet called sunny, she has small piercing noze in the left face, always elegant, good english, god conversation full of humour, she is everynight in walkabout. i m sure soon somebody will married her, go faster.

tuol kok has no more than 8 brothels in action, most of them hidded as coffee shop, and girls are ugly. also many african go to mongering in this place, public park like hun sen park are almost desert, the other one in front of the train station behind the new skyline building guest almost 50 girls each nights, from all the age. not for beginer at all, not all, street is totally dark, and pimps stay in the obscurity be extremely carefully. expected 5 dollars like tuol kok. hard to bargain now.

the best choice is sisovath quay near the japanese friendship bridge 4 khmer brothels but one get some cute girls in their 20 asking 5 dollars for a lousy service. pity it s better to use you hand. on the same street many viet working under cover of 6000 riels massage. but they will hardly show you signs of interest, you have to deal with them directly. expect 5 dollars too, some will offred you to do it with their friend.

bars in phnom penh are not good value, some girls tend to thinked they are irresistible and asked you 15 or 20 dollars for st. less pretty will go for 10 dollars. finaly like last year the best place for mongering is poipet, cute girls, no more than 200 baths for st or 500 all night. possible to get for less. poipet is a no man land, so ngo have no power here.

all and all cambodia is not a mongering country anymore. too expensive for food, transportation, bad service from girls. thailand is better value now.

cheers

I read many comment about the closure of sophies bar, but something puzzled me. I read the bayon pearnik and find no big ads about sophies bar, but if you look in the bar list of phnom penh in the same magazine you will see the adverstisment of Sophies bar located #9 street 118, following by attentive hostesses. So I m wondering if this place is close, why we can see again advertisment in bayon pearnik magazine.

I'm interested in any comments on whether PP is still a good mongering spot.

I'm planning to visit Cambodia next year.

I've always thought of PP is a good mongering destination and I've read a lot of old reports on this board for "research".

But now there are recent reports on this board of a "crackdown" and closures of many "popular places".

So, is PP still a good mongering place? Or, should I look elsewhere? Thailand? Other?

By the way, is Sophies in PP now closed? It's one of the places I'd go to in PP but some reports on this board suggest it's closed (but I'm not sure about that).

All suggestions / advice much appreciated!

It depends on whether you have been to Phnom Penh or Thailand in the past, Irving. If you have, their current state will only depress you. If you haven't, prehaps you'll still have a good time as you at least won't be at home. Severe crackdowns are taking place throughout Southeast Asia, but probably worse in Cambodia where the NGOs are even more dominant than in Thailand. I do not recommend going to Phnom Penh anymore if you are at all picky. And yes, last I was there a few months ago, Sophies was gone - everyone says it won't be coming back.

Channy is correct about the very poor state of quantity, quality, and service available in PP, all due to the NGO and Cambodian government crackdown. But I would dispute his assertion about the age of the girls found in Martini's and Walkabout - all that I saw were quite aged, typically around 20-25, with plenty of 30s around too.

I am just back from PP and I had a really good time.

Got off the flight from BKK at around 9 or so and expected to find the pick up from Flamingo waiting but something must have glitched so I took a taxi, real expensive though 9 dollar.

Getting to Flamingo and had to wait for my room to be cleaned and ready, left my stuff in the reception and walked down the street passed Shianghai and HOD to drop in somewhere. Some ugly girls dragged me in to get a massage and a blowjob and when that was done my room was about ready. Had a shower in my room and then I went out to have a meal in Walkabout and some little cutie quickly eyed me eating in the bar and came to sit with me. I bought her a beer and was playing a little grabass with her which was ok, went upstairs to play a little more and then we negotiated a price and went back to the hotel for short time. Had a good session with her and then I stayed in the room for a nap. When it was about dinner time I went downstairs and sat with some experienced guys and was advised about different restaurants, decided for POP-BAR near riverside for Italian food and it really is very recommendable and even the kitchen is nice and clean and they cook really good food.

Took a moto to Cyrcee and found a little something there and went to the short time place with her. Had a good time with her, she had some strange round marks on her back from what she called massage, I guess it was on of those where they put hot glass jars on the back and let them sit there, I don’t know if it does any good but it looked strange on her even the marks were three days old. Anyway, then I tried to find where Sophies used to be and I did find it but as is already know it is closed, sob sob. Walked then a bit around and dropped in to a nice bar called Cat something and stayed there for a beer playing different bar games with the girls and then a moto to Martinis. Even I have been to Martinis before I still get startled when that little man by the entrance says “HELLOOO” by the way does anyone what he is sitting on? How he sits? Does he have and ass to sit on? Never mind… In Martinis I was looking around and there were quite a few cute girls but now I was in the mood for something a little bit different, I wanted to try anal and I was approached by this little bit older girl “Rani” I think. She seemed willing and energetic so we went across the street to some Chinese guesthouse or something and had a short time there. Sucking and fucking was ok but the anal was not very good. Going back to Martinis it was again pooring down and had to run in the rain.

I downed a few beers and then took a tuk tuk to go to HOD, good choice!
In HOD I quickly spotted a girl that I had about a year ago and was very pleased with her. She was available for the evening and I took her, she even remembered me, don’t worry I gave her a few “test questions” she did remember me. After dancing and so on we walked to Flamingo and had a really wonderful night and morning too. Real good GFE experience.

Next day I thought we´d go swimming and went to get a bikini in the market and a quick stop at her place for some clothes, then to the VIP club for a swim and a daze in the lounge chairs.

After swimming and showering in Flamingo we went to dinner in a nice Indian restaurant and then to Martinis again and have good time. She went off dancing and I found some nice guys outside to talk to.

After some time I joined her in the disco and danced a bit and then told her that I wanted her to find a friend to join us for the evening and go with us to the hotel, she looked a bit strange at me and complained some but she did as I wanted. Her friend was very young, skinny and a bit shy and I thought already then this is not going to be a success. Went with the two to Flamingo and the young friend disappeared into the shower quickly. When she was finished and ready to come out I pushed her back in and had her soap me in and give me a wash, she was not into that at all and way too shy.

When all were showered and on the bed I started with my “GFE” and telling the friend to join in but she didn´t. I then proceeded over to her and she was very shy and reluctant to do much of anything.

I just about had enough and asked her; do you want to stay or go, stay or go, she said go and I let her go. Didn´t pay her. Fucked the GFE real good, but since the night was still young and I was in the mood I took her to HOD and we had a good time dancing and grabbing all her friends and so on.

We then found her roommate and this one has a much better attitude. She asked if the roommate would go with us and yes for sure no problem at all. Danced some more and then went to eat outside and then back to the room. Roommate was just naked in the room immediately and was this little cute dark girl but with a really great attitude, she jumped around naked in the room smoked cigarettes and was just really great fun to be with. GFE was happy with the situation and so was I.
The fucking was great. Girls eating pussy and playing with tits and sharing cocksucking. Everything went really well.

Next day took them both to waterpark. It was so so, I had fun with the little dark one running around and doing the slides and so on, she can swim like a fish.
Had dinner in town somewhere. I forgot which one but on some corner near riverside and has black bamboo furniture and sitting outside. It was all ok. The evening and night time was just about a repeat of the previous but never really ended until it was time for me to go in the morning to the airport.

All in all a memorable 3 days fast holiday in PP, and I´ll do it again soon.

Billy Baht Battles Cambodia

Local time in Phnom Penh is 4:00 pm. Thank you for flying Air Asia…

I had scored a Baht 299 each way Bangkok – Phnom Penh (PNP) Air Asia ticket ($50 USD each way including fuel, taxes, etc) and I was eager to hit the ground and chill out with some Khmer cuties. The newish airport at PNP is small but efficient and I dutifully lined up for the $20 Visa on Arrival. It’s wise to have correct change because I noticed that Immigration was pulling the old “Sorry, no change. Do you have Thai Baht?” scam. The Thai Baht price is 1,000 THB which is around $30 US. Save yourself $10 and pay with correct change. If you are staying longer than 30 days, get the $25 “Business Visa” which, as I understand can be renewed very easily, unlike the standard Tourist Visa.

Actually the Visa process does not take very long and I whizzed through Immigration and was at the exit in a flash. A quick visit to the ATM (I prefer the Canadia ATM, no fee. ANZ charges a $2 fee) and I was outside negotiating for a moto into town. He asks for $4 but agrees to $2. My driver is very proud of his new Honda Wave and told me he paid $1,300 for it. I notice that the Khmers are driving more Honda and Suzuki motor bikes as opposed to the ubiquitous Chinese Dialam (spelling?) bikes on previous visits. I tell him to take me to Sisowath Quay, the wide boulevard paralleling the river and get a room at Cozynia Hotel, a clean little place for $15 a night. They won’t discount for longer stay, but I decided to stay there anyway.

A quick shower and I’m out trying to buy a Cambodian SIM card. The first few shops refuse me (Must have Cambodian ID card, WTF?!?) but the fourth shop accepts my $USD as my “ID” LOL! The Hello 016 SIM is $10 and I buy $5 worth of time. The $5 card includes 120 minutes of free air time; local SMS text messages are 3 cents in network and 5 cents out of network. It’s a great deal and I never buy more time during my 27 day visit.

I call Sray, a girl I’d chatted to on AFF. She can’t meet tonight but would tomorrow night be OK? You bet honey, so I head off to the Walkabout. It’s the same old WA, filled with expats, skanks, semi skanks and some real cuties. A thin semi skank offers me boom boom, yum yum service for $20. I laugh and say no thanks and she says “OK, OK $15, OK?” I say $10, she smiles and I take her upstairs to the $4 short time room. She was pretty lame in bed but, in a perverse way, I enjoyed pumping her hard and got off despite her attitude. Back downstairs I ordered a beer and then a REAL cutie sat down beside me and she wants to go upstairs. I politely decline saying that I’d just boom boomed and no power. She was cool about it and kept chatting and smiling so I bought her a soft drink. Screw it, this girl is so cute, I decide to take her upstairs power or no power. $10 is fine for her so off we go. Man, she has me hard in the shower and we soon proceed to the bed for a great BBBJ and then boom boom (party hat on junior.) Man, what a difference the right girl makes!! She seems into it or maybe she is just a great actress, but I’m happy and junior is too. We shower afterwards and she seems in no hurry to rush out the door so we chat a bit while she massages me. She is 20, from some country province and new (says she) to PNP. Her English is not great so maybe it’s true. Anyway, who cares, I’m not looking for a wife, just a good lay, LOL! I get her number, then we go downstairs and I blow her a kiss on my way out the door. I work my way up 51st street and have a few more beers then back to my hotel for some much need rest.

My room has no window so it’s nice and dark and I’m a bit surprised to see the time – 11:00 am. Guess I was tired, LOL!

I walk north on Sisowath Quay (river on my right side) and pop in to the Australian Bakery, a very clean place complete with today’s Bangkok Post. I order the $2,85 breakfast (eggs, bacon, beans toast) and a $1.40 brewed cup of coffee. The waitress are fun to talk to and will even teach you some khmer if your willing to learn.

After eating, I’m off walking around PNP. I think that the long suffering Khmers are finally getting a little money in their pockets. Don’t get me wrong, its still a very poor country, but the average man on the street has is just a bit better dressed, more Japanese motor bikes and most locals look well fed.

Back to my hotel to escape the mid day heat and relax a bit. Sray is texting me about dinner tonight so we agree to meet at my hotel at 6:00 pm. At 6 sharp, Sray calls and says she is waiting for me outside. I hop in to her SUV and we go to some nice khmer restaurant somewhere south of the Independence monument. Sray works for an NGO, her parents are middle class professionals. She is a 30, a big girl and a bit shy but her English is excellent and she has a sharp brain as well. Dinner is OK and she even tries to pick up the check, which, although I am impressed, I insist on paying. We drive back to my hotel and I am thinking maybe she is too shy or maybe not into me, so I’m just chilled out and enjoying the scenery. As we pull up to my hotel she shyly asks if she can see my room. Why sure darling, be my guest, why not?

We get in the room and talk for a bit. I think no guts no glory and kiss her. To my surprise, she shivers and thrusts her tongue into my throat. Well, how bout this. Cool! Long story short, we’re soon humping like rabbits and it’s obvious that she loves to fuck.

Man, I love Cambodia.

To be continued…

Hi,

I was wondering if someone could tell me what the hospital and medicine costs are for locals who have high blood pressure. I have a girl who claims that her mom spends $30 on each hospital visit. It sounds like too much as I don't believe many locals can afford that.

I suspect her mom is hooked on drugs. Is that resonable to believe?

Billy,

I did the Walkabout cutie when i was there in December 07.

Her BJ skills must have inproved since then. She was a real cutie and a decent fxxk though. I did her twice in a double and once on her own.

She was just soooo cute. Her older sister works from WA also and she offered a sisters double act. Luckily I had been warned about the sister by a local as one of the pair who stole the 6000 cash from an American guys suitcase. So I naturally declined the sister act.

I suspect her mom is hooked on drugs. Is that resonable to believe?30 $ a visit is very easy to reach, if she goes to some private hospital - not a really good one. They will put her in a room with eight to twelve beds, give her some infusions for around two hours and charge 30 to 45 $.

Some hospitals are very good at giving infusions.

I know a girl, who was treated by a chinese privarte hospital for some days with infusions, because her monthly blood hadn't stopped for weeks. Infusions didn't help, so someone took her to another hosital, where they found, that she'd been pregnant in the scond month, the baby simply died, but didn't come out.

By this time, she'd been paying on infusions already around 200 $.

Hi Alfie,
I believe there are differing standards of hospital and I was surprised last year when I needed to take my friend to hospital on New Year's Day. She was suffering from excess alcohol and needed to spend hours laid out receiving intravenous drip of fluids. She then needed to go back the next day for the same and the whole thing cost me $100. (Yes I did see the bill handed over while I was there.)

This was at the hospital/clinic closest to where she lived and may have been cheaper elsewhere but it was by no means a 'plush' clinic.

Why did I do it I hear you ask; the main reason was guilt as she drunk a half bottle of Cinzano when she got upset over me being friendly with her friend.

No guarantee of what use your girl will put any money too but the price may not be that excessive.

Hoping this offers a different perspective of the situation

Hi,

I was wondering if someone could tell me what the hospital and medicine costs are for locals

afaik you will pay normal 'high' fees for decent western medicine. Locals can't afford it: locals get sick. This is one of those countries. They can go to the hospital that is one up from a witch doctor of course which is cheaper but reliable drugs and any sort of bona fide equipment (not to mention a trained medic) is expensive. The one exception for locals is their kids can get free treatment at any of Beat Richner's hospitals. Over a third of his budget goes on drugs though and the hospitals are just there for kids (every family in Cambodia knows of Beat Richner). If you want to give to charity while you are in Cambodia I cannot think of a better cause (and if you are skint he will accept donations of blood).

NanaHawk - As for helping your girl out, that was a nice gesture but of course now she goes back to living on the edge as soon as you leave (unless she happens to be a member of the wealthy class). A bit like feeding a starving man on oysters and fois gras before kicking him back in the gutter. Generally speaking there are no right options. So I think you have to do what seems right to you at the time.

The American Medical Center at the Cambodiana Hotel that has pretty close to western standard health care is $15 for a consultation for a local. $30 for a barang. If other services are required such as x rays or ultra sounds they will send you to another clinic but the billing is done through them as well as the interpretation of any of the results.

Naga clinic off rue pastuer is $20 for locals.

I just spent $500 trying to save the life of a friends brother who had fractured his skull on a moto.

Over $200 for the operation and then $100 a day for intensive care, he died last night.

Billy,

I did the Walkabout cutie when i was there in December 07.

Her BJ skills must have inproved since then. She was a real cutie and a decent fxxk though. I did her twice in a double and once on her own.

Luckily I had been warned about the sister by a local as one of the pair who stole the 6000 cash from an American guys suitcase. So I naturally declined the sister act.

Patarse,

Dude, I was going to marry that girl until you told me you did her, LOL!

Stole 6 grand eh? (Why do people have so much cash on them?!?)

When I go short time, I put my money in my jeans, then roll my jeans up and use it as a pillow. When I shower, I take my "pillow" with me. I've had a few one hand showers in my time, LOL!

I recently returned from a short break in Cambodia and would like to give my (brief) comments on P.P.

I stayed on the riverside at Cozyna Hotel.

Location would have been good except for the long term work taking place along almost the whole length of the riverside walk. No construction noise but the riverside walks, where I had been successful with several freelancers on my last visit has now been completely dug up and is not due for completion until 2010!
Hotel staff were both friendly and efficient. Room was “good enough!” A/C worked well, bed was comfortable and overall my room was basic but clean! Free water and instant coffee powder. I would say good value for money.

Plenty of nearby places to eat from breakfast time through to late evening. Many with young, sweet Cambodian or Vietnamese waitresses who like to practice English. These girls are paid around 2 US$ / day so your tips are appreciated.

Surprisingly for such a poor country I have always found the quality of the food in Cambodia to be excellent. I have NEVER had a bad meal there. Whether local, Chinese or Western the food I have tried has always been good and very reasonably priced.

Evenings. Plenty of “entertainment” available on the riverside area but no shortage of transport offers if you want to go to some other areas (It is not a good idea to walk in areas you do not know during the hours of darkness. Much better to take a Moto or Tuk Tuk and only costs a US$ or two.)

I tried many of the bars but one of my favourite areas was street 104. This was only a few minutes walk North from my hotel and had a good selection of Hostess Bars, Clubs, Pubs and places to eat all in a short street of less than 150mtr long.

Good food at Rose Bar, with some attractive hostesses and a good pool table. My favourite bar was Bunny Bar (YMMV) This relatively new bar is about 20 mtr in from the river on the north side of street 104. I found some very attentive ladies here who were happy to take care of customers without constantly pushing for drinks. A small seating area outside with the usual “meeters and greeters” high bar stools inside near the front of the bar and some comfortable sofas at the back (Ideal for conducting your “in depth job interviews!”)

I took a very attentive young lady back to my hotel after the bar closed one night and enjoyed every minute of the 3 to 4 hours we spent together in my room. No rush, and a very reasonable price!

Overview. PP is not the easiest place in the world and very different to Thailand but a great time can be had here at a reasonable cost. Not recommended for those who have not had previous experience in SE Asia but well worth a few days visit.

Enjoy!

Though I have heard it talked about before, and, apart from Svay Pak, have never really seen evidence of child prostitution in Cambodia, this is the first piece of journalism that I have seen that reports the situation

http://english.aljazeera.net/news/asia-pacific/2008/10/2008102110195471467.html

I thought it worthy of publicising here so that any discussion can move away from the anecdotal accounts.

No-one wants to support child prostitution but we do not want to be tarred with a brush that has been used for such a long time when reporting mongering in Cambodia. It may well be the child sex capital of the world but only in a trade promoted and propagated by the locals who have been at it since long before tourism. brought Westerners to Cambodia.

so I head off to the Walkabout. …Thanks, Billy Baht for the awesome report and photo.

Was the total cost: 10 for the girl and 4 for the room = $ 14. ??

Real good GFE experience.First Lover - Nice post - and great fotos

Just curious - what did you pay for bang bang with the martini girl and what did you pay for the HOD girl

this is so very true! thank you nana hawk for showing this!!!!
the so called ngo's are so entwined in the pockets of the local government for the pursuit of their agenda. that they look for a "poster child" i.e. white tourist to propel their propaganda. they even try to set up people to stay in business.
sure this may awful crime may be perpartrated by a forigner, but very rarely, and surely not nearly as often as the local police and citizens of cambodia. it is true that the men in cambodia very often [CodeWord123] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord123) and commit crimes against children. but rather than address the true cause, they look to find a scapegoat, and subsequently parade this badge of based in false credentials.
if pisses the shit out me to be contributing to the economy of this shitty country, while simultanously viewing a white tourist man portrayed in an evil way on the side of a city bus. never on any media is a cambodian shown doing the same, ever!!!
the entire un and all supporting nations should stop all aid to this country until this is properly addressed. fuck hun sen and all the fuckers that patronize these local fuckers, and their ngo pigs!
remember mongering is the related to the oldest of the freely chosen professions, yes nobody forces these above 18yr old girls to seek out this kind of work. it just happens to be the best pay for the least work. and anybody who has been to this country know that these girls are lazy.

well aljazeera is a bit late with all this, been done with gary glitter and the press around the world. it would not surprise me if these were old reports. wake up aljazeera and actually report something happening now.

al jazeera has pretty high standards among news agencies in spite of the feelings against it in america. it uses several high profile ex-bbc reporters and has a high degree of impartiality and transparency (if you're in hong kong, for instance, you get a better quality of news from aj than you do from cnn or bbc in se asia).

mongers go to pp generally looking for legitimate p4p. investigative journalists are looking for something quite different. there is little reason to doubt that they find it.

on the other hand, the gary glitter stories can easily bring unwarranted attention to legitimate mongers. much of the blame imo lies at the door of the george bush policies which recently linked cambodian eradication of **** to prostitution generally - and anti-condom use. awareness has been noticeably heightened, which is all to the good - i didn't see any children being offered for sale - but this is not to say it hasn't been sadly driven underground.

to its credit, al jazeera (while still giving space to contrary claims) suggests that it is mainly local trade that drives the atrocities, not foreigners.

And if you see the NGO posters and the NGO ads in the tourist magazines it is always a white guy hand in hand.

In Beat Richner's poster/magazine, he's the only white guy. All the doctors he's trained are Cambodian (it's a policy point - he hates most of the NGOs). I think 'white guys' inspire confidence in foreign donors, rightly or wrongly. For instance, has anyone been ripped off by the Cambodian 'teach English at a local village' scam? This is not to imply that a lot - maybe most - NGOs don't have a clue. Cambodia is officially the recipient of the most badly-directed 'help' in history - thank-you U.N. But many NGOs from abroad (some good ones) are also non-white, particularly Japanese.

The UN has a history--not only in Cambodia--of establishing some of the most poorly managed development programs in the world. There are several reasons for this, one of which is the propensity of those in charge of UNDP, which funds many of the programs, to select from a third world "old boys' network" of consultants to direct the program. The consultants are highly unskilled, very often incompetent, and often interested in things other than the programs they're supposed to be administering. Another reason is that the UN pays such lousy rates that the only people it can attract are those who cannot find work with the better paying, more demanding bilateral and multilateral development agencies.

Just curious - what did you pay for bang bang with the martini girl and what did you pay for the HOD girlThe Martini girl did a bit of a con on me, she went for a 20 all holes including, but when I was paying her I had nothing less than a 50 which she convniently took down to the receptionist and I got only a 20 back, but what the hell, it was only 10 bucks so I let on that I did not notice. We parted on friendly terms. The GFE and the little dark girl, both from HOD, got 20 each per one night and were both happy.

I went last week with my GF to Luxury World Hotel for diner. This hotel/massage/sauna/karaoke/restaurant complex is located on street 200 I believe, off Monivong. It is run by the former world-famous "Great World Massage" team.

The place mostly caters Asian customers. We had a very good diner on the open-air restaurant on the last floor and then went down on Sd floor to pick-up a massage girl for a threesome. About 50 girls in the fishbowl with Khmer, PRC and Viet girls. Very similar to GW in terms of variety and quality. They have 2 floors for massage/sauna with some VIPs room but I only checked the first one.

We picked up a nice Khmer Girl with big tits and nice rack. My GF knew her from her previous life (they worked together before...) and off we went for a very nice and clean room for a full night of naughty massage and suck and fuck action. She was definitely very experience, absolutely not shy and the idea of fucking her friend's boyfriend seemed to turn her on quite well.

Massage fee was 5$ + 20$ for the girl + 15$ for the room for the whole night + 10$ tip for the girl (as a former colleague, I could not do less...). Not very cheap but service was very good and rooms extremely clean.

All in all in a nice place for those who liked Great World Massage before. Will probably go back again without my GF for afternoon sessions. Am interested to gt additional reports on the other services provided.

Cheers,

Finding her? Is the girl in the club? I assume she's not hiding under the pool table. Speaking for myself, I haven't ever needed help 'finding' the cute girls in Martini. Only time I haven't found them was when they weren't there. Anyway, to each his own. I think you could walk around the whole club in about 3 minutes and see every girl who's there, it's not a big place.

Yes, I know exactly who you are talking about. She came up to me like a friend, and started chatting to me, then asked what kind of girl I like. I was too horny, and ignorant to tell her to (*&^ off. Needless to say every visit after that she would drive me crazy for about 15 minutes until I went into the disco to escape. She also had some of the girls get in on the fact that I wanted a slim girl with big tits. So like a circus show they would all grab their breast or make a joke when I passed by them in the club. I embraced it and even went to grab their tits. This ended the jokes.
Best not to speak to anyone there who solicits you. By the way the girls she would find would all be 20-25 and this is way more that normal, plus you give her a commision, to hell with that. There is no place in PP that I felt I needed help finding what I wanted, just patience.
Between the Hag, 1 foot freak at the door, and the drug dealing Africans, I find Martini's to be a bit of a freak show, but still an ok place to peruse for pussy.

Just for the record, I don't know who I'm talking about -- I've never actually encountered this person Iching was describing. I was just saying that it sounded like a pretty worthless 'service' being offered. I suspect the guy would get quoted higher prices as well on top of it, since he's already proven himself to be an easy mark.

Never did see Africans there either -- haven't been to PP since March, and didn't spot them there then. Quite the international flavor. Europe, America, Africa, Vietnam... it's a small world after all.

As for not speaking to anyone who solicits you, would that include the Vietnamese girl who approached me one night and asked me if I like smoking, then said "smoking is very good for you" ?

Alfie,

I don't want to disappoint you but I got back last week from 2 weeks in PNH, and it's not been my first there.
Almost EVERY Girl will claim that she has a sick sister/grandmother/father/brother/buffalo whatever.
No, I am not a totally cynic asshole, it's just the way it is.
I do have my experiences and I actually wouldn't mind to help out a girl if I liked her and she was in dire need, alas, all you get is lies...sometimes good and elaborate lies, but nevertheless lies.
The fact that Cambodia is a rock-bottom poor country doesn't change that.
My advice... drop her.

Kenny Rogers

Folks,
got back last week from two weeks in PNH and thought I should provide a short summary.
Phnom Penh is changing quickly as those of us who visit frequently can sure confirm.Regrettably the city - and the whole country of Cambodia - is loosing its particular charme and getting more and more NGO friendly and rip-off.
Girls got pushy and a number of them demand unreasonable fees. Almost all of them will try to tell you those stories about sick relatives, dead buffalos etc. Needless to say it's almost always a lie.
Still, there are a few decent places but one has to know his way around. My trusty Tuk-Tuk driver Hen kept me out of trouble and got me all I wanted without asking for more than his 10 USD/evening flat fee (and he DOES have to do quite a bit of driving for that). Gave him a 50$ bonus before I left as appreciation for his honesty and courtesy which I normally never do, LOL.
One needs to look twice at girls from Martini and Sharky's now. I found that I better give them a short-time test pop in a nearby guesthouse before taking them for the night - that will prevent some serious disappointment !
There are some older girls now hanging out especially in Martini's and Sharky's, their service is MUCH better than those 18+ Viet chicks.
Advice: Avoid girls which are on Yaba (Crystal Meth) like the plague!
In my second night I banged some 30+(real exception) named Raina from Martini. She was clearly 30+, tall (1.75), big provocative boobs and a real good lay.
Did her four times all over - agreed fare was 20 but I gave her 30 as she was nice, horny and not pushy at all.4th day I took a tiny Viet named Lee from Martini's. Avoid her, she's heavily on dope and will tell you sad stories 24/7, none of them true. Has a tendency to show up with g/f's and sisters at 3 am in your hotel without announcement, LOL.
Bunny bar has some real nice girls doing full service for 60$ a night (60$ for two which is OK, great service).

Still, best value is still LCC. Go there, take 2 girls for a good pop (and these honeys ain't a lil'bit shy :-) ) and if you like them take them out to your hotel for 60 or 80$ a night (again, 60 or 80 for both together). What I like about the LCC girls is that they are really fun to be with and never tell you any b/s about sick relatives and so on.

Wanted to look for "Orange girls" but got warned off by my trusty driver Hen... he showed me two guys with digicams actually waiting for their NGO-paper cover shot.

Stay away from the monument area, it's not worth it !

Mama-San in Martini still gets me a good selection of girls of my taste. Treat her with a drink or give her a 5, it's worth it. Tip the barkeeper in Martini, he'll give you some pretty good advice if you ask nicely.

Tried my luck with a stunning and sweet waitress in the riverside cafe - angel face, super figure and long brown hair one could die for. Took her out twice but didn't get that far...obviously she was kind of exceptional, no demand for money but she wanted some kind of commitment which I'm not willing to give, LOL.

ZanziBar and Shanghai were still a waste of time.
Walkabout is always worth a look but too many druggies.

Met a goodlooking Philippine about 35 who is Manager of some kind in a local garment factory. Took her out for dinner twice and banged her whole night like mad, 2nd night with her Khmer colleague. She's horny as hell but obviously has problems to get hooked up there, LOL. Safe to say the best f*** I had in years and even without charge :-).

Summary: Phnom Penh is still worth a trip - if you know where to go and what to look for. Don't be shy to say "no" and make clear what you want. Almost everything is on sale in Phnom Penh for $$$.

Unlike Thailand it is usually not advised to show too much of decency and ask the girl for breakfast. Cambodian girls are used to be treated like dirt, so regrettably they hardly appreciate a bit of friendliness. That being said please don't make it a general rule, there are also sweet and lovely girls but they're hard to come by, especially in our circles, LOL.

All in all - Tip well, stay calm, avoid to get into arguments. Leave you wallet and valuables in the Hotel room safe and carry only cash for the night.
Use a permanent Tuk-Tuk driver, that'll pay off.
Being a bit paranoid in PNH doesn't hurt the least ;-)

Since I am done with my 08 annual leave I will likely go back in Feb or March 09 - planned to go to Saigon first, then Thailand for holiday and a few days senseless banging in PNH again. I'll be interested to read here what will go in in the meantime in that still fascinating city.
Anyone knows whether Laos and Myanmar is worth it ?
Cheers & Have fun, Kenny

One more thing: It pays off to have a mobile with you and collect the numbers of the girls you like, or to call your Tuk-Tuk driver.
Problem is that you can't get a prepaid SIM-card any more in PNH without a copy of your passport and I am not willing to provide that. There are NO reasons to give anyone except the hotel and the immigration guys your passport!
Simply ask your Tuk-Tuk driver or a girl to get you the card with their ID. Cost is 3 to 5 $ (although sometimes there are free promo's) and 5 $ top-up will last you two weeks if you make no overseas calls.
Avoid carrying flashy phones and especially PDA's or Blackberry's in Phnom Penh. I use my old Motorazr for that purpose which is no loss if stolen.
You do need a triband phone at least, though, or buy an older Nokia or LG locally for 20 $.

When I was there earlier this year, prepaid SIM-cards were easily available in the street of the market near the river front (Phsar Chas/Street 13?) for a few dollars.
