I always stayed at the Park hotel but there are higher end hotels if you so desire. I took a taxi to Sonagashi getting off at the gas station there. Try to have exact change to give the taxi driver or small notes, if you give him a large note he may try to scam you by telling you that you gave him a smaller note, it happened to me.
On your first visit to Sonagashi I would recommend that you go with a pimp who will most likely approach you especially as you will look like a foreigner. Ask him for the higher end buildings, when I was there Building 12 was the best but there may be new higher end buildings now.
