Anyone been to La Isla de la Juventud recently? Are things still relaxed or repressed? Used to be a great place for finding action, at the disco in Nuevo Gerona on the main street.

Finally I got time to elaborate on my trip in Oct 07-14 2005 to Holguin (Guardalavaca). Recent info on Holguin is sparse here, so I guess my experience might be helpful.

Here is the deal: Me and my girlfriend (bi-curious) got an AI packaeg with club Amigo (Guardalavaca) and arrived to this blessed country in a hope to find some threesome experience. All of the following is the experience of a complete newbie(s) in mongering. English is not my first language, so be easy on judging the grammar/spelling.

1.It took approx 1.5 hour from Holguin airport to the resort a nice air-conditioned bus provided by the travel company. Arrived to Club Amigo at night, got some nasty burgers at 24/7 bar, checked a nearby place, beats of its music were all over the resort (supposed to be the best disco in Guardalavaca). Cover charge is 5$ per person (at least the doorman said that, I think he just wanted to get money and the thing was free), looked through the fence at the dancefloor - Nobody! Watched a DVD on a laptop and went to sleep.

2. Woke up, checked the beach (so-so), rooms were nice, food was crap, activities - snorkling, tennis, ping-pong etc. Quick walk around showed that the forum was right - the place is dead, only tourists and security at every corner. Assuming that the forum was right about Holguin and realizing that taxi to Holguin would be like 30 CUCs, we decided to rent a car (budget hit) and go as far as possible - Santiago de Cuba. At car rentals 5$ bribe right away (and promised 10$ after if everything is ok) helped us to secure a sweet deal for three days (price of two), nice new car and good attitude.

3. The road trip (supposed to be 2-3 hours drive) . Oh, man! Getting to Holguin was the sweetest part - nice, wide road, superb view, no traffic. After Holguin it was crap. There is no road signs in suburb Cuba, even with a map we got lost like 5 times. To make the long sory short, 6 (Six!!!!!!!) hours later, after the midnight we arrived to Palma Soriano - a city close to Santiago de Cuba. All we wanted by that time was to sleep and eat. The latter was satisfied checking a bar in the center of the city where I talked to a waiter (Alex) who spoke decent english. He said that there is no action in Santiago de Cuba at this hour and suggested taking his brother to Santiago de Cuba who will show the way and find a girl-friendly place to stay there. The next day Alex promised to come himself and help with girls and sight-seeing.

His brother didn't speak english at all, I quickly learnd how to say left-right and right ahead in spanish and we went. On the way a policeman stopped us and asked to give him a ride. I decided to take him so that he shows where I should slow down. It went pretty well - I was driving 140 (100 is the limit I assume) and slowing down just before police patrols.

Arrived to Santiago, driven through these narrow tilted streets (typically one-way) to the place Alex's brother showed (good location, next to the hotel Nacional). It was occupied. The guy went to another (20$ per night +5$ breakfast). Spent 1 hour convincing the howse owner to let the girls in - no f-ing way. The rental guys said that the car must be parked at official parking for the insurance to be valid, so the suggestion to leave it on the street was discarded. There was a closed garage (many other cars) but the guy asked for my f-ing keys! (He needed to move it in case I block his garage space) I said no and we agreed that I release the hand break and pick it up the next morning at 8:00 am. With the intent to move out the next day went to sleep.

4. Next day at 8:00 am was f-ing raining. Reparked the car to hotel Nacional and went to sleep. Woke up at 2:00 pm - Alex was there with his brother waiting for us. We got the car and to another place we went. 25$ a night, girl friendly!

For sight-seeing chose the castle-on-the rock - nice place, nice ocean view, operating lighthouse. Went back to the city, looked for some girls on the streets and found 2 friends ready for threesome.
