Putting the Karorke Clubs in Perspective
For all those who deride the Karoreke Clubs in Colombo as a waste of money(which is probably what it is) or at best very poor value for cost, i.e., cost effectiveness, let me compare with an institution in Mumbai, India, the dance bar!
The dance bar(s) go back to the time of the Moghuls, i.e., 500 yrs ago. Basically, it is a place where rich men throw money for very attractive girls to dance in very revealing saris! Absolutely NOTHING is GURANTEED! You would need to waste a lot of money, in small denomination bills, and time,to get attention! Finally, after multiple visits and spending upwards of 10K Indian rupess, or 20,000 SL rupess, you might get her number. Then an additional fee of between 10K INR or more will get you sub-par performance for a short time! Neverthless, choice is there, and quality is superior to the girls who work in the brothels!
If I had to guess, this is where the Colombo Karorke Clubs got their start!
Origin of sleazy Karaoke bars

I always assumed it was the Korean and the Japanese influence.
There appears to be quite a number of them residing in Sri Lanka either on business, construction etc.
Particularly the Japanese habit of sex for favours from young women combined with the Korean and Japanese fondness towards Karaoke.
Hollywood - Pub and Night Club at @ Thummulla
As there is a lot of conversation going on about K clubs and pubs I would like to know from you experienced guys whether you've been to this place. I think it is on the low budget side. I have seen many times that girls in their early twenties get inside the club. Of course not very good looking ones. Some guys happen to drop girls and leave, who might be their girl friends working at the club. I don't know anything about the scene and was just telling you what I saw several times.
I have another question for you (especially ebolalk).
Is it awkward for a guy to enter a K club alone? Is there any entertainment without company? I would like to check out the scene but and I monger under cover I don't like any guys to come along! So is it really weird thought which is sure of not working out?
If it is somewhat ok, what are the places that you can recommend for a beginner. I don't want to spend a lot and come out of there like a fool. So are there any possibilities or am I speaking of a really dumb idea?
Anyway ebolalk thank you very much and I admire your experience and very informative reports you publish on the scene which is quite new to this forum. So keep up the good work so Jackson will consider starting a new thread on Karaoke scene in Colombo!
