3. would this be a good or bad time to go to MDE for the first time when taking in to account the crowds / traffic during this time?

I'm considering going to MDE for the first time during the second week of August and realize that this is during the flower festival in MDE. I've read RTFF going back 2 years and really didn't get clear answers to the above questions, so anybody care to help?

Also do not be surprised to find that most of the hotels and apartments are possibly fully booked at this point (if you haven't locked in anything already).

Probably also can expect your favorita to be more busier than normal as well. Not just from working the influx of extrajernos, but from hanging with family and friends at the parades during the day, and partying at night.

If you have the option, just wait until about a week or two after the flower festival is over. The chicas will be fresh and looking to recoup all the tuition and school book money they blew on partying hard during the festivals.

They usually increase rates only by about 10%. Chicas will charge the same. However, you should definitely book way in advance during this time.

It is congested, lots of traffic. More so that it is now.

The crazy Cabalgata, if there was ever a reason to go to the Feria de Flores is no more. Too many horses stressed out and dying or something like that.

I was in Medellin during the Feria last year and attended the parade with all the crowds and craziness with a chica and it was one hell of an experience in a cool way. I like crowds, but it was definitely freaking packed. Trying to get out of there hailing a taxi, good luck with that. I'll be there again starting this weekend and I was able to book an apt without a huge price increase (10% at most I'll say, no way it's 100% Chica prices don't change unless you let it and yes most will have family obligations, but I imagine that it's only for a day or two. Similar to the obligatory Thanksgiving family dinner and then it's back to gringo land. I'll be at the mansion this weekend with a first timer fellow chino of mine and then off to apt. The best time, equal to Halloween but the Feria de las Florist is over 10 days or so.
Right now is Colombiamoda, a large fashion show going on for three days, the best of the best.
I was on a flight today coming back from Pereira and the plane was full of beautiful girls coming over for the CM, I don't think they were putas but hey, every girl here in Colombia has her price.

If you are coming during the second week of August you shouldn't be affected by The Flower Festival much, if at all. If I am not mistaken the parade is on August 10th the final day.

If it were my first trip, and I was looking at Medellin as a destination and it fell during these dates, I would still go. You will notice the event is going on but will only be affected in minor ways, if at all.

This is just a minor tax to be paid for tourists visiting during this time. Many people visit during this time for legitimate reasons while tourists pay a tax and receive little benefit.

The only reason this event stands out is because there is nothing notable in Medellin. If this event was in Miami there would be minimal interest.

I don't see any difference in Medellin year round. Lots of uneducated, poor people that want to work. Lots of hot girls and not enough jobs to pay the bills. Round and round the record goes.

Other than a day here and a day there, the working girls are still around and aren't hard to find.

Thanks to all that gave responses to my question regarding MDE during the flower festival. Since the festival ends on August 10 and I am planning to arrive in BOG on the 6th, I will probably go check out some other cities first and then get to MDE around the 11th or 12th because I would like to spend a few days exploring the MDE scene.
