Interesting theory. I always maintained that the crackdown happened because there were folks (investors) envisioning turning Sosua into "Cabarete North". But apparently they didn't have any experience dealing with Dominicans on the business front. As long as the money was pouring in, there indeed was a crackdown of draconian proportions. Don't forget at one point in time they made the clubs put up partitions to block the clubs' view from the street. But I'm guessing those investors probably got tired of getting pumped for money while being promised the moon by the Dominicans.

Any arrests happening now is just the cops realizing they can extort chicas and wondering why they hadn't thought of it sooner (pre-crackdown).

And yes, they had to have been open before May that year. I was in Sosua in March 2010 (staying at New Garden) and I remember a guy from L.A. showing me where he was staying (TL) and how big the pool was. I walked into the lobby and got a card from the front desk.

I also remember walking into the lobby and seeing a chica I had banged the previous night (the famous Egenia) sitting in there with Presidente and a group of guys standing around drooling over her.

Incidentally, it was the last time I ever stayed at New Garden. I have been staying at TL every since May 2010. Probably will do something different going forward.
