I only need to walk for exercise. The lines for the banks are insane. Along with the lines for the ATMs. Those who have contact with business owners are making appointments to meet at their stores and make the purchases they like. I have several friends in other cities that have reported they are doing that. One innovative store moved onto instagram and is taking orders there and sending your orders out via moto driver. That is what I see because I have "boots on the ground" in Republica Dominicana" right now!

Now I work all angles. I post the articles I read online and I verify what I read locally with my own eyes. But I am sure some are getting reports second hand from their girls. But we are not even reading about that here. I would like to hear them because I rarely head over to other parts of town these days. Great stories about past social activities though.

I remember when I was a kid women would use what was called "curlers" or "rollers". They were big pink foam rolls around plastic spines. The foam eventually fell out of use and were replace by plastic rolls about the size of "the" batteries. I think they are still used in beauty parlors but back when I was a child women would wear them out in the street they way Dominicans wear tubis out and about. The part that my child's mind found confusing was the practice of covering the head full of curlers with silk scarves as if no one would notice the bright pink curlers peeking out.

The tubi doesn't bother me. Dominican men consider it disrespectful if a woman who is not a relative wears one while accompanying them outside the home.

The sound level meter captures a noise level similar to the first, of up to 88 decibels, when it is located next to these operators while they perform cleaning tasks in the Colonial City without the hearing protection that, according to the expert, "should be mandatory" for these workers.

Personally I found living in different barrios irritating at times not because of colmados but the my vecinons and their tendency to play loud music. Pre SOE law enforcement was pushing noise into specific areas and aggressively enforcing the noise restrictions in place. This is knowledge I gained from actual spending time in different barrios around Santo Domingo / Santo Domingo este over the course of actually living here. You do not have to google anything to know that people in the United States are running scared. Ideally you would put anyone coming from any of the hot spots in the United States of America in quarantine for 14 days. Long term visitors would put up with that. But that would kill short term tourism, dead!

It is funny because people on this board have told me that leaving the country was a good move. I disagree. I feel very safe here. And the people are feeling safe too. No more fear despite what some off-islanders my think. And even the King of Sosua hanging out up north agrees with me. Brother P does not have any fear. He has indicated that online is the way to go. I think governments are going to realize that you can keep people well from COVID, but if they starve to death, or it destroys the country in the process, did you really save people?
