I asked yellow taxi and private taxi, the private saig no less than 60 and yelloy agreed to 50. While in the cab he said if I'd use to meter it may have been 40-50 but who knows, he was probably lying as it's really not far. I just didn't want to risk with a meter and they drive around for ages racking up the meter as had no GPS to call them out on it.

Take the metro from Carioca (Green line) to Sao Cristovao station, and walk east back towards Rua Ceara, it's about 200 meters, you can exit from either side of the Metro station, and the street will take you to Rua Ceara.

If you are walking south of the railroad tracks, once you get to Rua Ceara, by the railroad overpass is a bar on the corner, it's also a lanchonette, but everyone there just drinks. You take the cross street (Rua Lopes de Souza) east a couple of blocks until it ends and go left 100 meters. At that point, you will be in Vila Mimosa. If you have problems, just follow the taxis.

If you are walking north of the railroad tracks, when you turn right onto Rua Ceara, take your first left and Vila Mimosa is 100 meters down the street.

The other approach is to take the Metro to the Central station, get off and walk up to the railroad station. Take any train to Praca de Bandera, and walk west until you hit Rua Ceara. You will see the corner bar past the railroad overpass, and turn right.

BTW, don't pay 50 reais to go from Santos Dumont to Copacabana by taxi.

Anything before is one set price. Anything past is another set price, and cost's more. Hope this help's.

I didn't mention that on Tuesday my American bank card had been blocked and I was at Rio sul with the 34 year old I previously mentioned. I had to call the bank many times, it took two hours to get it unblocked as each time the call would drop and I had to start all over. Yesterday I met this new girl (will post pics of her soonish, her ass is sublime) and I went to use my card and it said card had insufficient funds. I check my account to see $1. 45 left. She agrees to come home with me in copacabana as we met in New York City center in Barra de tijuca. Bus was 3. 80 reias from copa but took two hours and a half. Anyway my card was cloned and flushed using ATM and card transactions, they even had my pin number. So I now have to use my British account and pray that doesn't get cloned, I only used the ATMs at santos dumont and hsbc in Rio sul. Can anyone suggest where is a safe ATM to use? My American bank card did not have a chip but my British card does, will that make it harder to clone? Sorry about this question, but I've never been in this situation before. I have used the Citibank ATM on Nossa Senhora a few times without any incident but I wouldn't try it now. Just too many skimming devices in Rio. My best advice to every tourist is to never use your credit card in Brasil, unless it is an absolute emergency.

A very similar thing happened to me a couple weeks ago. My credit card was cloned while in Colombia just prior to my arrival to Brasil for carnaval. I had no idea while I was in Brasil and in fact I kept using the card at restaurants or grocery stores. But when I got back home there were some fraud alerts messages and I called the credit card. While I was in Brasil "my card" was being swiped and used in Bogota. Lucky for me it was a credit card and not checking account so after a 5 minute phone call the charges were reversed and no problem.

Oddly enough I used my ATM card in Copa everyday and never had a problem.
