Your time is limited. You didn't mention how much foreign currency you intend to blow away.
Given that, if I was you I'd get a decent room (lots of postings on that) around Malate, and make the circut (lots of postings on that) around Mabini and Del Plilar and Robinsons Mall and surrouding areas. Surely you'll find someone to keep you amused between the bars, the Mall, etc. You could do just that for 5 years and not be bored! Avoid street pimps (see postings). Note that Malate and Makati aren't all *that* far apart. I'd take use FX/Jeepnie/bus, but hey, you're a rich tourist so take a taxi - just make sure they put the meter on!
You can refer to all the Makati postings for such there; ditto for QC. If you're new and have 5 days,
don't consider the 'burbs unless you have a knowledgeable and trusted escort (which you probably don't have), and you only have 5 days, so restrict your territory, have fun, but remember to treat anyone decent you might meet with some respect, just as you might hope to get from them.

Hi Cebu Local,
As far as hotels go I would prefer one in the Holiday Inn price range not to far from the action, if it is safe and clean that's good. I will only be staying in Manila long enough to make plans for Cebu.
Also in Cebu I need a hotel that will serve as my home base where I could leave my suit case as I go island hopping in the Visayas.
Cebu Local and guy's thanks for the help. my pm is not working I'll have to take care of that when I get back so please post.

LOL!
Great report, very funny.. I agree. Perhaps they should rename the place. 'LA Zoo'

X[/QUOTE]Thank Xman,
No offence, but none of the taxis whilst in the Philippines could find anything there.
They didn't know where FB harrison, Manila Casino, harrisons plaza etc.
Only place they knew was "The Heritage Hotel".
I've been there a couple of times and went there tonight (Holy Thursday) because I couldn't find too many places that were open.
I got there a little after 8pm and there was a group of about 6 girls dancing on stage. After a few songs, another group of about 6 girls came on. The first group went to a few of the tables with guys to talk to them.
After the second group a band came on and the second group also went to some tables to talk to the guys.
All of the girls had numbers on them and I found that you could bring a girl to your table for 300 pesos/hour.
I also saw some VIP rooms in the back and a girl in an evening dress walking into the area.
Anyone know about this? The previous time I went was at about 2am and there was a bunch of people dancing and some girls on stage dancing their routines and only thought it was a dance club.
Prices aren't bad for a place to hang out. 150 entry for males, 100 for females which included one San Mig or ice-tea, beers are 89, pitcher of draft is 190 and a barrel is 550.
Some of the girls were decent looking and it adds a little in my opinion to see them dancing--not like in the KTVs, more like in a dance club.
Earlier, someone reported:
***No offence, but none of the taxis whilst in the Philippines could find anything there. They didn't know where FB harrison, Manila Casino, harrisons plaza etc. Only place they knew was "The Heritage Hotel". ***
I can think of only three possible reasons for this.
1) You got a new taxi driver. Hmmmm, maybe not since you write "none of the taxis in the philippines". Maybe you meant to write Manila.
2) You looked like a newbie and they were testing you. If you couldn't give rough directions then they take the long way in order to earn more money. It still happens to me, but usually I like the different scenery so I don't complain unless time is an issue.
3) Your pronunciation or diction wasn't clear. It's always wise to speak slowly and clearly. English IS a second language for Filipinos.
Whenever a taxi driver makes me nervous I pull out my phone and start sending texts, or call someone. At the very least he'll think twice if he has some funny business in mind.
I find it generally is helpful to make a little small talk with the driver. Sometimes they are a great source of information. For example, you might ask how much he charges for a ride to AC. If he asks me if it is my first time, I would recommend you say "no" even if it is.
I also like to fk with them. For example, give a small / no tip, then say, "The tip would have been bigger but you gave me a headache by beeping your horn the entire trip." or "...but you didn't even slow down for that little old lady trying to cross the road."
Yes, I'm doing my part to make the streets of Manila quieter and safer. :-)
If I'm not mistaken there is a phone number somewhere on the outside of the taxis (in Manila). I believe it is the phone number for the taxi regulatory body ...and you can call it to make a complaint. Write that number down. If anyone is in Manila now, can you give us the number?

Another thing I do if I get nervous is pretend to call someone (or actually call someone) and give them the license plate of the taxi. It is written on the inside of both doors. If they were thinking of something, hopefully they'll wait for the next person.
My fake conversation is usually something like, "Yeah, I'm on my way now in a taxi. Taxi number? It's ABC-123. See you in a few minutes."
Also, I always sit in the back. Some people sit in the front and I have heard where the taxi stops, 2 people will jump in the back with knives and ask for your money. The taxi driver pretends he is being held up also but he is in on it too.
Lastly, it is a good idea to always lock the doors, ask the driver to turn on the meter and don't except and "plus" fares--meaning the driver wants +50 pesos on top of the meter. If he does this, tell him to pull over so you can get another taxi. He will either tell you to forget the "plus" fare or actually pull over.
Did my rounds tonight (Saturday) but with a girl so my response might have been different than if I didn't have a girl with me.
Stopped at Peppermint on Mabini near the church. It's a Japanese KTV bar with about 25 girls. Some of them are pretty decent looking but it is a KTV bar so not much action to be had. Between the 2 of us we had 4 beers and bought 2 drinks for a friend of mine. Total damage was about 2000 plus 500 tip for my friend. I think there is a 150 cover charge, ladies drinks are 300 and 200 per hour. Beers are 75. The one thing they had was for 500 pesos, it will include your cover charge and all you can drink for 2 hours. This doesn't include ladies drinks.
After that I went to check out LA Cafe for the first time. Got there about 1am and it was packed. There were probably over 100 girls there but I walked around the place twice and didn't see anything I would have been interested in. I did see 2 or 3 that I considered cute but that was it. I did see the other side but did not go upstairs.
After I left LA Cafe I went over to Miss Universal. Got there at about 2:00am and it was pretty empty. According to Vangie, the mamasan I always deal with, it was packed at 11pm but most of the people had left already.
We sat at the table in the front-center of the stage and did not see anything exceptional. Saw a few decent ones but no stunners like I usually see at MU. But, because it was after 2am, the good ones were probably all already in the VIP rooms. We did have a great view for the solo shows but of the 3 we saw, 2 of them were a little heavier and 1 was ok.
3 beers and 2 cover charges and the total was 520. Beers are 100 each now and cover charge is now 110 each. Didn't ask the price of the ladies drinks.
It's 4:30am and the girl I'm with had a little too much beer and is passed out now. I may head over to PDP for their promo rate of 1200 to cap the evening/morning off...

Please ignore the post below from Teed On. Once again this is "On The Go" showing his feminine side by creating yet again another handle. It's really comical as he never has gotten over the fact Jackson sent him to his own thread recently. It seems this banisment has made this clown even more sad than he was before. Under OTG, he confessed he is a convicted felon who cannot leave the U.S. as he is on the run for violating the terms of his parole. As a result, he has lots of time for this kind of stuff.
