Their usual rate is $20-$25; if you added another $10 for pics and BBBj, should have been below $40. That's my favorite place; but next time I go I guess they will expect $70 or more. No fucking way I am paying that much in Quito.

But 20 - 25$ are for 30 minutes if I'm right.

I re-entered Ecuador the other day from Colombia via airplane and customs was going to turn me away. My passport had a tear in it from years of travel and was beat up. They refused to stamp it with an "entrada". They are getting pickier about the passports apparently. There was a gov't person there that told me that. If your passport looks like it's on its last leg, you might want to replace it before traveling. I had to go to the Embassy and get a new temporary one - $75 plus hours of waiting/travel to the airport, etc. and it's only good for a year. Replacement of it with a full validity passport is free, however.

I am looking forward to, and planning for, my first trip to Quito! In so doing, I have RTFF extensively, found it extremely helpful, and taken all sorts of notes which I am sure will make my few days in Quito much more productive in many dimensions. So thanks to all who have contributed.

With respect to hotels and other accommodations options however, there seems to be less mentioned or discussed here on the Ecuador board than the other popular ISG boards. At this point, I have booked a room at the JW Marriott as a place holder until I find something more reasonable. While I like everything about a four star or five star hotel (who wouldn’t?), I would be perfectly fine with a clean two star, and given the price difference, would by far prefer the latter. So, if you have recommendations in this area, please let me know.

I have also not seen many discussions about good massage places in Quito (in fact I have only seen one reference). Whether a legitimate massage place with no other services offered or one with extras, as long as the massage piece is average or better, I would be willing to try and report on. So here too, if you have recommendations and would let me know, it would be greatly appreciated.

Look for a trip report (of a Quito first timer) in the early May time frame.
