Hi,
I'm looking to visit P/P and Siem Reap in Dec for 1 week. Was wondering if anyone can recommend some good hotels in either places and bars/pubs which is a must to go a visit (time is limited and want to just go to the highly recommended places - shorlisted hotels to stay and bars/pubs).

I worked in PP several years back and still visit from time to time. I try to stay at the Flamingo Hotel, its near Walkabout and Shanghi bars. They have a website and can pick you up at the airport. I haven't stayed there ina few months, but I don't think things have changed. Just be sure to email them ASAP. Just my thoughts.

Flamingo is ok. They have a website (must google, don't have the address handy sorry) and you should make a reservation thru the website or else risk showing up and the hotel being fully booked. I did make a reservation and this happened to me anyway -- after pressing my case and showing them the printed email from them confirming my reservation, I managed to get a room.
That said, if your priority is being near Walkabout and Heart of Darkness, Flamingo is good. If not, the big drawback in that area is a lack of selection of food. Riverfront is the best area if you want some variety in what you eat, and convenience. Prices over there are about the same. There's also some decent places just a block or 2 from the riverfront that are nice and a tad cheaper.
A place I saw that's much nicer than Flamingo, in the same area, and includes a nice pool: Billabong. Again, you have to google it.

Billabong is not guest friendly. They have a very strict policy of no mixed couples. They are catering to the single white female traveler that does not want to see any taxi girls.

A friend of mine recently sent me some links and informing of a shooting in Heart of Darkness. He also showed me a link to some crazy things Hun Sen's nephews have done - apparently Hun Sen's nephew in law is the new head of police. Are the bars there really as dangerous as it seems. Or will things be alright if you mind your own business and always be respectful.
As you can tell im very inexperienced.
If its not too much trouble can you throw some names of hotels you know in Sieam Reap also? We will be spreading our time between these two cities.

Are you sure? I could have sworn I'd seen posts here in this thread about guys who'd stayed there and brought girls back. Could be wrong. Did you go there yourself and check? I did go there to take a look at it, didn't stay since I was just in PP a couple days and had already checked into Flamingo. And no, I didn't actually ask if it was GF cuz I was assuming it was, based on reports I'd seen here. Tho -- like I said, I could be wrong.
It's a big step up from Flamingo in terms of comfort, I gotta say. Much nicer. Tho if you're right, that sure would throw a wrench in the works.
Let me do a search in this thread and see what comes up... not doubting you, just wanna see whatever it is I saw way back when that gave me this idea.

These are the only 2 in the thread that deal with this issue. The one saying they are GF seems more first-hand. Either way, sounds like even if it is GF at all, it's not nearly as GF as Flamingo.
It'd be great if there was a place that was as nice as Billabong, with a pool, that was GF. Days are really boring in PP. A pool would be perfect. I have to admit, I felt a bit trapped when at Flamingo, since it's only near Walkabout and Heart, no decent places to eat in that neighborhood (their own restaurant was not what I'd call good).

And many more around the corner toward Sorya and the Central Market, including Pho Olympic, maybe the best pho place in town.
No problem with a girl at all. Highly recommend! Seem girl friendly. Never a problem, different girl everyday or night.

I am absolutly 100% sure. I live here and keep up with punter related topics, as that is all I do here.
A friend of mine that came in from Thailand only last week tried to take a girl to the pool there. He even checked with them first. When he got there he was refused entry or service.

Well, we seem to have a clear first-person testimony that it's GF after all. Billabong is more expensive, for sure, but what you get in return seems worth it (great atmosphere, nice pool with poolside bar/restaurant). It's a block away from Flamingo, so whatever Flamingo has in the vicinity, Billabong does too.

Hm. I walked around that area and didn't find these spots. Open daytime? Got any specifics? In any case, I'm sure offerings there aren't anything like what you would see over by the riverfront, with choices of any kind of cuisine and all different price ranges. The lakeside also has lots of food choices but I'd never stay there... the lake is filthy, for one. The accommodations are a big step down -- rough, basically. Cots and fans. There's another area on the south side of town that I haven't explored thoroughly yet, but there are a good number of places to eat down there. I mean, foreigner-oriented places to eat. I don't go in for the streetside mystery-meat soups or gerbil spleen stew you can get for ultra-cheap.
Feeling quite jaded aft few night rounds in HOD, Martinis and along others on st104. Overall quite satisfied with the Khmer gals here. Try look for Lia or Nia in Martini..you will see the diffirence.
Can anyone suggest a good place for massage and with happy ending? thanks

But if you like pho at all (Vietnamese beef noodle soup) do try Olympic Pho: walk north on 51, take the first left (154?) for 100m and it's on your left. 6000R, lovely stuff, especially on a hangover.
