Santo Domingo

The arrival testing is not random. Arriving passengers must present a test result no more than 5 days old or submit to testing as a condition of entry. The testers collect the passengers' address, telephone number, and e-mail address before the administer the test. Passengers who test positive are told to quarantine for 14 days. Passengers who test negative are sent on their merry way.

Currently (the day this post was written) Monday. Friday ("toque de queda" as the P2 man explained means curfew) is from 5 AM to 7 PM. On Saturday and Sunday it is from 5 AM - 5 PM.

Passengers who test negative are sent on their merry way.[/QUOTE]What you are stating is what is SUPPOSED to happen upon arrival but after the first day of delaying tourists in the airports most testing has been thrown out the window and verification of test results brought in by passengers is a joke, I know several people that have flown into SDQ and POP and none of them were tested or asked for proof of a test. Another guy put a fake test on his phone and shoved it in the guys face and he waved him through without any attempt at verification. This is the DR afterall, there is no consistency with anything.

You are right. Only days after testing had resumed after abruptly stopping for reasons that still haven't been explained, I saw several people breeze right past the testing area. It was as you described, very inconsistent. I know I could have skirted the test requirement but I was curious about the procedure and interested in a PCR result. The cost of the testing supplies alone will kill what's left of that program.

I'm seeing restaurants in the mall that closed down because of the curfew suddenly reopen. It's just a hunch but I'm thinking that people talk and some of these upscale places talk to people in the government and they probably told them that this is the last hurrah, and that the curfew won't be further extended.

Which mall (s), Sambil, Agora, Blue, Acropolis? A place I like in Piantini that also has an Agora Mall location re-opened at the mall this week. It's good to have options.

Hi guys,

I am in Santo Domingo at Napolitano 3 for 3 the last three days ranging from 36 Cee to 42 DeeDee to 42 F, curfew 7 pm to 6 am. Going to Santiago Monday for three days then Juan Dolio come down if you can. I mostly stay in my room and bang the mamacita and serenade them on my guitar. Everyone is wearing masks which is good.

Going to Sosua next week not suere if it is right move. I enjoyed SD on my last trip with planned hook ups. Sosua is mostly sport fucking and hit or miss. Never the less the beaches eating place make it a winner. Keeping my fingers crossed that the curfew will be lifted. Curfew or not got get my groove on.

Eating places? You won't find any of those joints in gastronomy guides to the Dominican Republic. What you find there is appropriate for the hard drinking hard partying crowd that frequents it. Enjoy the rest as I know you will.

Trip.[/QUOTE]Not just upscale places. Many places were open. I went to a place on the Malecon twice in last few weeks. Also had coffee at two brand new places last week. One was Mexican place outside bella vista mall. Even the little Venezuelan place around the block was open but most places are pretty empty.

I know a girl that was lawyer in Santiago and now cashier at supermarket in the Bronx.

I asked why she was not talking on whatsapp. She said she deleted her whatsapp so she would not have contact with her family. She said now that she is in the States they think she is balling and they keep begging, when the reality is that she is struggling. I said now you see how we feel when we save up money for a whole year to go down there for vacation and y'all think we are rich and start begging. She said she sure does.

Dominican yorks perpetuate that myth. They may live 8 people in an apt never leave their neighborhoood, go to salon once every two weeks and have to bust ass to make a trip home every few years. Yet when they get there they are all dolled up and all new clothes. I see them on the plane in tubis and only pull them off after getting suitcases. Their families thing they are living latge and then they want the same thing.

Can not count how many times a chica chatting with me will ask where I am from. I will say some random state or city then say buy I live in santo domingo. 20% of the time they ask "cuando vuelves a tu pais". I repeat "vivo aca". They of course say "yo se pero cuando vuelves". After 8 times repeating the same crap, they say "dijiste que eres de miami". LOL one more time slooooooow "VIVO ACA". If and when they finally get it they ask why I want to live here. I say either because I can or "porque me di gana".

They are programmed to think other countries and any country are better. Hence lawyers working as cashiers or waitresses.

Years ago they announced cruises leaving santo domingo which required no visas. Great! Dominicans would get to see other countries! One of first cruises 40 dominicans left ship and never came back. Ship was in guadalupe. WTF is there in guadalupe that there is not in DR? Ruined the cruise for all the rest.

There are long time thriving money lending businesses in Dominican neighborhoods. Their peak periods are the school vacation and winter holiday seasons. There is enormous pressure for ex-pat Dominicans to come back to the island as conquering heroes to show off their prosperity. Relatives feel slighted if they don't receive some sort of token gift from abroad. It is sometimes something as useless and readily available locally like a bottle of Jergens lotion or tubes of Colgate toothpaste. The money lenders fund everything from airline tickets to cash to throw around at discos and rental car agencies. Believe it or not, some of them still operate as "travel agencies" in Dominican neighborhoods. The rates are of course rapacious. It's hard to get unsecured credit at fair rates with a spotty or non existent credit record or a low wage job.
