I've been coming regularly to Thailand for the past 10 years for work. I have done all the usuals and in general had a great time. Loads of fun and hot sex. Sorry, I find this discussion strange. It "does not matter what we pay in our home countries", "it matters what the average income is in this country". And when I came to Bangkok 12 years ago the prices were quite similar to where they are today. A bit more expensive today in the Gogo's. But who goes there and expects real service?. Income disparity in Thailand is huge. Most prositutes who serve Farang are usually barely literate, and people in their class either live at subsistence level as farmers, or make 6-8k/month as maids, food vendors or laborers. A clean-cut 7-11 girl (a step up from most Isan freelancers/bargirls) , makes 200 baht/day (soon to be 300).

If these same Isan hookers served Thai guys in Bangkok (at the low end at Yaowarat or Atsadang, since that's what they'd get with their generally flat looks) , they would be paid no more than a 300-500 ST rate.

Farang pay more, and usually we do get more in terms of service. But we don't need to overpay. 1000 baht is more than enough for a quick romp in Bangkok. For 1h of work, that is *triple* of what the nice 7-11 girl gets in a day, and the hooker still has a chance to do another punter or two. In Pattaya, most (80%) of freelancers are still OK with 500 baht for ST, although they're increasingly going for 700, and their costs are *not* lower.

1500 would be OK for a middle-class girl (that maybe got close to a university, or looks decent, raising their earning potential to 10k / mo) and a traditional. 2-3 hour ST (which is increasingly becoming a thing of the past).

Guys who agree to inflated prices get neither respect nor better service from the girls. It's one thing to leave a generous and well-deserved tip after a great session (by all means, encourage good behavior and be a decent human being!), but quite another to accept a higher-than-going-rate price upfront.

If a girl is looking to make 50K+ (which I seriously doubt, but Giotto could tell us better than anyone else) like you said and her rent is somewhat similar to mine then she will come out with 10X that of her rent. Unemployment is low but most folks still make very little and most businesses carry way more employees than they need due to poor productivity per employee, but that is how Thailand does it, and hats off to them, it seems to work.

Prices similar? When I first came to BKK over 12 years ago a beer was 80 baht in a gogo. Bar fines on Cowboy were 400 baht, One did not even need to discuss 1k LT with girls. I would say those prices (with the exception of the bar fine) are up over 100. I would call that more than a "bit more expensive." A Hen in 7-11 was about 25 baht when I came to BKK, now 47. Not that I drink the swill, but it is a good indicator of the inflation rate here. How many Thais with degrees do you know that are making over 40k baht a month? Folks still start at less than 15k out of Uni. Most near 10.

As I stated in a previous post. Oilies and Soapies have been consistent in their pricing, gogos have not. You pay WAY more than you used to for WAY less when it comes to service. So we agree on that point.

I would say that paying too much has far more effect on attitudes than it does anything else. It brings FAR less fun. Give an uneducated farmer's daughter the money a Dr makes and all of the sudden her "s*t don't stink" so to speak.

One point about Thai men though. To say they are all cheap is not true. Just head out to The Piano or one of many Hostess Bars or Karaokes. If I can afford it I am generous: bring in a little gift, extend the LD to another 1 or 2 ladies chatting around even if I have one, give a tip (not a fortune) as a gesture, even to those workers not giving you sexual services, such as the bar waitress, treat them like human being.

And then there are there are the obscure local dialects from the NE border areas. Me? I can't hear much in go-go bars anyway, so I just nod my head and smile.
