Thanks for all the responses; it appears AC has nothing compared to Patts other than maybe a better selection of English speaking girls. Not a bad thing. Maybe I posted in too specific of a setting; are there more desired areas to go to in PI, other than AC. My assumption was that AC was going to be most similar to Patts.

Can't do scuba without water. Just go check it out for yourself. Same as Pattaya but 1/50th of the size and without the ocean and the tourists who are not there for mongering. Just look on the board and see which threads have the most posts. AC is one of the most popular threads on ISG.

There are other PI locations, but not worth the effort / cost / safety / quality.

If one is on a tight budget go to the PI, otherwise best stay in Thailand.

Koh tao is awesome when it's not the rainy season. And just north of phuket in Phang-nga bay has many small atols. Lots of good diving in thailand.

Could someone clarify something for me? I have read a lot of the forum, but I have also read other places on the net (like Harry The Horse and various others) and they mention that, earlier this year, the Mayor commanded all the bars to cease barfines. Apparently a series of raids has happened to drive home the point.

Are barfines still allowed in AC? If you monger there, are you taking any serious risk of arrest?

On the Dollhouse website, they still have a barfine price but they call it an "Early Release from Work". Was this name change meant to skirt the new law?

They always change the name barfine, EWR, and Party Animal. The name changes but the name remains the same.

It is true the Mayor ordered no more barfines and many raids did happen like in the reports. If you are not attracted to Filipinas why bother coming? I don't think there any others girls here like Russians or Africans, only Filipinas. There are reports saying AC has gone downhill and others saying it is still ok. It doesn't sound like you have read the reports bt your questions.

The 'Tombstone' comment is just great. What can I say I have been to AC around 30-40 times in the last 10 years. I have never been robbed. Never been threatened. Never been mugged. Once I saw a cop ask my taxi driver (NOT ME) for a bribe but hey they charge us 2-2500 peso for a trip that on meter is less then 1300. I once saw a fight between a middle aged women and a bar girl. The middle aged women accused the bar girl of ruining her marriage. On my last trip (story to follow) I saw a philipino guy throw a glass at a bar girl and thats it folks. Maybe I have been lucky. Few days ago in Bali I was nearly pick pocketed lucky I left my wallet at the hotel and the girl I was with started abusing the wanker. This happened on Legian St in Kuta just in front of ground zero. Two ausies ended up hospital with stab wounds after trying to break up a fight between locals that nearly killed one of their own kind inside a popular disco the next day. In Pattaya a Russian guy was slipped the mickey by bar girls that robbed him. It could have happened to any of us. In AC at least we know that girls are unlikely to drug us considering they can't afford it and they are all licensed anyway. We hear about people dieing but how often does it happen to one of us? It happens to bar owners and people involed in iligal activities, expats that live there and get involved too much with the locals and maybe cheat on their wifes or like to throw their weight and cash around? I don't remember a tourist and I am talking typical 21 day tourist ever to get killed. If you keep to yourself and remember why are you there then you will be fine. I rate AC much safer then many other simular or tourist palces around asia.

We hear about raids. Has anyone been through one? I know one guy but he was allowed to live right away. Those events are well targeted at bars / bar owners and the authorities know in advance who they are going after. They never bother the customers.

As for the odd ball extortion cases again we often here only one side of the story. Sure there are plenty of corrupt cops and bargirls but in general those events are VERY rare and most girls are SCARED of the police. A lot of the times the guy has brought it onto himself. People need to understand that you can't be an asshole in a foreign country and that $40 barfine is fuck all and from time to time be prepared to let it go. Treat them with respect and they will return the favour. Abuse them and sooner or latter you will run into one that will deal it back to you in spades.

Patts is just 50 times bigger.
