Been in Shanghai a number of years now, seen the fellow expats come and go. Been reading this board a while now and find it usefull indeed.

Must thank Contex about the report on 868 sounds fantastic! If anybody wants to head down there sometime soon could be a blast.

The city centre is pretty dead for bars now so would be fun to check out new part of town.

Hi all! Just arrived in Shanghai last night and far too tired to get out for New Years. I've been here before and had even posted about getting taken for one of the inflated bill at the KTV scams. Wound up having a great time in Hong Kong afterwards and am back for another round. I've been RTFF quite a bit and it seems like so much is up in the air with the Expo coming and all.

Staying over by the Longmont on West Yan An Lu. I wandered a few blocks east on West Yan An Lu last night and wandered into a little place advertising massage 24/7. Made my way down a few flights of stairs and for 98 RMB plus 50 RMB tip I had the most mechanical rub and tug ever. After the flight, it wasn't so bad, but am definitely hoping to find something a bit better.

Question to regulars of KTV girls. Is one pop customary? I know my host paid for the entire night 2 times, but they both seem to have decided that was it once the first time was over? If I had know that I would have stretched it out a bit more.

Well, I made it over to G18 last night. The place was open; man in the lobby asked me if I wanted massage and led me to the elevators.

And any P*R*O*X*I*E reported openly here gets shut down fast, as I said so why take the risk?

You stumbled into a few nice dilemmas here, congratulations you still got a lot of fun.

However you may think about the following. If a girl scams you (and I would call it scam what happpened to you) and she gets away with it she will do this again. So even you may have saved your host face eventually if he ever learns what really happened you may result in the opposite.

Stealing by a KTV girl is uncommon but whenever you have someone in your room, keep everything locked, including anything revealing your identity. You must be firm with a girl trying to push you around (leaving early, complaining too big etc. is pushing you around) throw her out, no money and complain to mamasan. It may not get you your money back but the girl gets what she deserves. one pop for the whole night and leaving early is not the rule, but it varies a bit by City and KTV. Also ignore this I live far away, she got more rest than in a usual night.

AFF and CL you should be very cautious, but never believe them a word. The girl you had fun with was 100% a full pro and you overpaid nicely, but hey if you got her to do anal, in China, man you were damn lucky and who cares!

Personally I believe it is an issue of pride or face, call it what you will. This site gets around - seen articles in local mags etc, on different websites talking about us and what we do.

Chinese guys having sex with Chinese hookers is fine, but for foreigners doing to, and bragging about it, is really considered to be a pretty big insult. So that's one reason why we are important to authorities and worth shutting down places we write about and frequent.

Second and probably more important point is that this site is read by many many people - not contributors to the forum - but lurkers, who would then frequent the places we write about. ONce this happens, local people start to get pissed and then reports are made and places are shut down.

It's only going to get worse in 2010 as well.

PM is the way to go unless you want your favourite place shut down.

Anything, and I mean anything, that would even begin to suggest that or encourages it is a no-no for them. Hence anything that is cited here (for the present) and seems to be catering to too many tourists is going to get shut down.

Foreigners with foreigners is OK, foreigners with Chinese. No. That is disrespectful and causes loss of face. It is also not in keeping with the (hypocritically) puritanical beliefs of the CCP.

So, whilst we are a tiny portion of the people who go to these places, the noise this site causes is hugely disproportionate. Most Chinese work on Guanxi, tell their friends about a decent place or use the odd Chiense site. But I challenge any non Chinese speaker to go find one of those. And they know that, so those sites are not a problem.

This especially applies to the very local village areas. I don't think they are shutting down the Shanghai Hotel sauna because a bunch of laowais frequent the place. And, we are fooling ourselves if we think LE does not know where all the mongering venues are already and have been turning a blind eye in the past. The problem as you have put it so well is that we stick out like sore thumbs in the local mongering areas. A Chinese guy can walk through unnoticed, however, it is very obvious why we are there especially when the visitor numbers go up. And, many traditional Chinese punters don't like us doing the girls anyway. I have seen many areas get shut because the locals complain.
