El Centro is extremely dangerous. I have been robbed six times in the last five years. And have witnessed countless others being robbed, beaten and stabbed. Two homicides within 10 meters but I missed that hand grenade in July by three hours (which BTW was the result of a drug turf war).

I have never been harmed because I have never resisted. Also, the Paisas have respect for senior citizens. I let them have my $5 watch and the 20 k and vitamin V in my pocket. One time they were so polite they returned my pack of cigarettes. My worst experience was they took my room key which the hotel charged me 50 k for replacement.

My advice to the uninitiated: Stay out of El Centro. If you must go, do not go West of Carrera 52 or North of Calle 53. Leave the area before sunset and by no means be intoxicated as you are their number one target of opportunity. And do not be lulled by the recent show of police force in the area. They are only window dressing and will be of litlle or no help while you are being stabbed and robbed.

Medellin is a wonderful place to relocate and work, but crime has still a different "thickness" than in Europe.

Just back from a week long visit to Medellin.

I really went to hang with a girl I had met before and have been corresponding with.

She was great, however, as always, I do find time to run around a bit jeje.

Here's a quick synopsis of how I found the scene:

The casa scene in Centro is very fluid and this trip I found the quality to be much better than about 5 months ago.

Of course I checked out the line up in New Life, and among the bigger girls, there were some keepers as far as looks go too.

If so, wouldn't you get the hint to move out to maybe Laureles or some other safer neighborhood? I have been to El Centro quite often the past 4 years. Haven't been robbed yet. Witnessed a guy being chased with a machete and maybe a couple of pickpockets, but that's about it. Keep your eyes open and don't look down!
