Excellert Report / Excellent Advice
Overall, Rio is still a good deal if you hit the right spots, especially with the current exchange rate. Unfortunately for some, it's not the point and click type of place like it was in the Help, MP and ho beach days. If you are still stuck on the way it was back in the days, you will have a hard time there. Do your research and have a plan. Back in the days, even if you came in blind, you could always run into cool guys you could hang with and check out the different spots. These days there isn't as many old vets going down (at least not in Copa), so you are on your own mostly. Anyways, nothing new in this report, that haven't been said before, just my 2 cents.
Great report and solid advice! I'm not sure how they chased the program girls off Ho Beach. These girls were mostly the aggressive ones who didn't care who saw them soliciting on Copacabana beach. However, you could find a diamond on the beach if you chatted up with the quiet, subdued girls. There used to be some real beauties up for the game at Posto 9 Ipanema. You wouldn't know unless you put in some time and had some game. That opportunity must still present itself?
I've gone to Rio solo and in groups. When I was solo, I ran around all over town. The comraderie of other punters was nice, but mostly for some drinks or to share a cab to Centro. Some newbies would be uneasy about going to Centro. In fact some guys tried to make a living being punter guides, but I'm guessing that business got tough. When your solo, it's not a bad idea to spend some time with a cool chick that will bang you before and after. When I've been down with large groups, some of the guys were lazy and wouldn't step further than a few blocks from ground zero (Help). I'm sure the city was not happy with this scene of gringos and young hookers congregating on the beach and Avenida Atlantica.
Copacabana Beach Posto Map
Does anyone have a solid map of the Postos on Copacabana beach which shows their relation to other landmarks on Avenida Atlantica? Are the postos marked as you walk the beach?
Rio. Crime and Safety Thread
Yesterday I saw a report on some reputed news channel 'Rio experiencing crime wave before Games' showing a tourist getting mugged while walking by a busy street in rio. He was furiously attacked by a young guy who wanted to snatch his valuables & no one stepped up for help. Just a day before I read something similar on the web but didn't pay much attention to it, let me quote.
But today when i saw that live footage... omg I mean its really happening right there. Guys any idea how frequently these incidence occur & is it really a matter of concern.
Maybe best to discuss it there.
