These girls were mostly the aggressive ones who didn't care who saw them soliciting on Copacabana beach. However, you could find a diamond on the beach if you chatted up with the quiet, subdued girls. There used to be some real beauties up for the game at Posto 9 Ipanema. You wouldn't know unless you put in some time and had some game. That opportunity must still present itself?

I've gone to Rio solo and in groups. When I was solo, I ran around all over town. The comraderie of other punters was nice, but mostly for some drinks or to share a cab to Centro. Some newbies would be uneasy about going to Centro. In fact some guys tried to make a living being punter guides, but I'm guessing that business got tough. When your solo, it's not a bad idea to spend some time with a cool chick that will bang you before and after. When I've been down with large groups, some of the guys were lazy and wouldn't step further than a few blocks from ground zero (Help). I'm sure the city was not happy with this scene of gringos and young hookers congregating on the beach and Avenida Atlantica.

Does anyone have a solid map of the Postos on Copacabana beach which shows their relation to other landmarks on Avenida Atlantica? Are the postos marked as you walk the beach?

She hooked her gringo and got her all expense paid trip to London. Within no time she was working in a be. J. Sauna whilst still semi servicing her Gringo and getting free lodging in S. London. However the gringos in their own country have to work to pay the bills and the playboy swordsman's lifestyles whilst travelling in the whoring grounds of the Latin Countries does not happen! So the trIxy mulata soon got bored. After one encounter with her she said " yes I am Brazilian and I need sex everyday " Unfortunately the Bill payers do not have the stamina and free time that the beach dwelling favela gigolos have!

You can expect Mabs and every other spot in Copa to be rammed every night as girls from all over the country try to make some USD / Euros.

You will have a great time as the city will really be hopping.

The World Cup was fun, and I'd expect the Olympics to be much better as the entire event is concentrated in Rio.[/QUOTE]True, that Rio is not an obvious playground as it was once with Help, etc. Yet, if you dig deeper into the entire city, culture, etc. , you will still have plenty of fun. I personally never took anyone from help. Hell, I never even walked inside, just walked by a couple of times. That obvious meat market scenario is not my cup of tea. I am not being critical of it, but it did not appeal to me.

This city can still be a freaken blast. Pussy every where. However, forget about touristic landmarks, I think learning basic portuguese, learning the culture in general will take you a million miles further in meeting a variety of women anywhere and at any time. This means both pro and non pro. Its a whole different experience.

Again, tons of fun to have in Rio, but takes a bit more work, or a lot more money: -) Enjoy!

The system starts in Leme at Posto 1 and ends at Posto 12 in Leblon. The Copacabana Palace Hotel is located just after Posto 3 heading towards Posto 4, and the old Help was roughly at Posto 5. They are all marked and impossible to miss.

If you're actually going to meet someone on the beach, you can either meet directly at one of the Postos or use the Barracas (the tents renting chairs and selling drinks directly on the beach). Each Barraca (pronounced Bah-Hah-Ka) has a unique number and they too are ordered chronologically along the beach.

If you're trying to get your bearings in advance of your trip, recommend that you use Google's street view function and go for a virtual stroll down the beach!

Yesterday I saw a report on some reputed news channel 'Rio experiencing crime wave before Games' showing a tourist getting mugged while walking by a busy street in rio. He was furiously attacked by a young guy who wanted to snatch his valuables & no one stepped up for help. Just a day before I read something similar on the web but didn't pay much attention to it, let me quote.

Mugging and crime. That's life in the big city. Having spent too much time walking every housing project in New Orleans (I know, not as bad and scary as some favelas), here's my advice:

Never carry more than you can afford to lose.

If you get robbed, give them what they want and look at your shoes. They'll just as soon kill you as leave a witness.

Don't wear jewelry or walk with your phone in hand.

Walk with purpose and be aware of your surroundings. Stay on the beaten path.

Don't look like a victim. Don't act afraid; make eye contact when walking; be confident. If people are getting mugged on busy streets, then how do the muggers pick their victims? You have something they want and / or you look like an easy target. If you are frail in body, mind or attitude it's best to stay away. Of course that's kind of the point of the scary news, to keep you cowed. Rio has always had muggings and murders.

Good gracious, now you making me worried. I was planning a trip to Rio de Janeiro, but I never heard about muggings in Rio de Janeiro. I've already booked a room at Cobracabana Palace. Should I cancel?
