I apologize for igniting the racial issue
Interesting post. I hesitate to bring up the whole racism issue again here, I'm in favor of bars excluding customers for bad behavior, but not in favor of their excluding other people who happen to have the same skin color of a previous customer who behaved badly in the past -- somehow that seems unfair and irrational to me, but what do I know.
Anyway, on to something much more important: I'd heard that the Siam Hotel and Cafe you mentioned is now gone -- demolished some time in the past year. The sketchy reports I've seen about it seemed to say that the whole scene that was there is now gone, both inside the cafe and outside in the parking lot/street. I was in BKK last week but didn't have a chance to go out there and see for myself. Anyone else know?
Hello Wendella,
I apologize for having reopened the can of bees in this regards. The report had its roots in the Pattaya section, however much of the info I had to relate was from Bangkok, hence I took the liberty of posting it here.
On another note I thank you for the information. It has been 6 months since I last visited LOS and my information on the hotel and the avenue I guess is a little outdated due that fact. I will be returning to Bangkok soon and shall let you know of my findings and if there is any update to the scene.
About the hotel from what I know it belonged to a rich Thai businessman and he used it as his own *****house which I have concrete evidence of as I saw the lady at the reception (one of the ladies, not all) had a very good camaraderie with the owner and the info came directly from the horse's mouth. The lady is a sweet can of honey and a very gentle woman (age seems to hardly reflect on thai skin), just a little too old for my personal taste. It is not everywhere in Bangkok that you find a well managed, air con, with pool hotel in a good locale with 24 hour entertainment right at your doorstep for 700 Bhatt/day which is what I paid when I last stayed there 6 months ago.
Mick Licker: Thanks for the info and the update on Monalisa (I rarely end up there) and the info on the Long Beach (I shall surely try that out on my next trip) which I shall report once I have been there. Thanks a lot mate.
Regards to one and all,
