I have RA, Rheumatoid Arthritis. RA is a disorder where the body's immune system attacks the body, causing inflammation and damage to the joints. Untreated, severe cases can cause damage to internal organs as well.

Earlier you asked about buying a large sum of Colombian pesos at a good rate, $5,000 or $10,000 dollars worth. Others, others who have actually been to Colombia, advised against it. The Colombian peso is not extremely stable in the best of times. With Covid, and now the Delta variant, the political unrest and rioting, now would be a bad time to invest in a large amount of Colombian currency, especially for someone who has never been to Colombia, and probably never will go to Colombia.

I'll go back a bit further.

In 2014, my first time in Colombia, the exchange rate was 1900 to 1. Over the next 18 months it rose steadily to over 3200, before dropping back to 2900. It bounced around 2900-3000 for 2 years before rising to 3200. If you bought at the peak, 3200, the best you would have done was save 10%, if you only spent pesos when the rate dropped back to 2900. However, if you missed the peak by just a few weeks, you would have been lucky to break even. If you had decided to buy when the rate, percentage wise, rose the same amount as it had risen when you asked about buying $5000-$10000 worth, you would have lost over 30% of value.

Last year, a BM staying in Bogota went out and withdrew a bunch of money because the exchange rate had jumped up. The rate continued to rise, although later it came back down. However, if I remember correctly, shortly after some chica stole his big stash of pesos.

For someone who lives in Colombia, but receives an income from the US, it might make sense to withdraw extra funds when the rate is favorable, or to make major purchases at the right time, but it's unlikely to represent a huge difference. If you're buying a moto at 4 million pesos, you save 8% buying it when the rate is 4000, instead of 3700. However, you might have to wait 6 months to get that rate, and it might top out at 3900 and quickly dive to 3600. Or you might buy at 4000 and 2 weeks later it's 4400.

The best strategy is to withdraw what you need, when you need it. If your budget is so tight getting 10 k less from an ATM withdrawal is going to ruin it, you should just continue to stay home and pretend to travel.
