For the second time, Tijuana was recognized as the best city to vacation in Mexico. The city received the distinction from the World Travel Awards, which recognizes the best tourist brands worldwide.

The ceremony dedicated to Latin American destinations took place on September 15 in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

The World Travel Awards take into account excellence in aviation, hotels, travel services and destinations. In this competition, which includes our country and Central America, Mexico won 25 prizes.

It was in the section dedicated exclusively to Mexico, where Tijuana won the award as the best city to vacation, competing against Cancun, Merida, Mexico City and Oaxaca.

Seems a be it odd. If one is not into working girls there is not. A lot of tourist attractions. Probably the only reason Tijuana was named the best vacation is because the rest of Mexico is so crime infested.

Tijuana is crime-ridden too, as the major launch pad for smuggling drugs into the US, 177 murders in the first 9 months of 2018.

Why did anyone vote for Tijuana as the best vacationing spot? There are no sceneries or recreations worth mentioning in Tijuana. Tijuana may have been favored and voted for by caravan people?

A hot Adelita's chica is from Guatamala. She routinely crosses the border into Mexico to work in Adelita, then go home for holidays and visits. That's how porous the border is.

Chicago has 448 murders per 2.7 million, murder rate 165 per million.

St Louis has 153 murders per 309,000, murder rate 496 per million.

Damn. You are right. I feel a lot safer in Tijuana with hot, sexy chicas than in the US with old, fat ugly WG hehe.

To put it in perspective. Chicago has had 448 murders. 153 in St. Louis.[/QUOTE]My guess is very few US murders go unreported but a good number go unreported in Tijuana. The Tijuana numbers have very little relevance for visitors to Zona Norte. I think most of us know that.

I've never been close to serious violence in USA, but close several times in Zona Norte. I quickly left the area when a serious fight using building materials as weapons broke out about 2 meters from me at a taco cart, 30 minutes later the police had the area blocked off. I watched a police car run over a bicyclist who was trying to evade the police. Once there was a shooting at Bar Tropical while I was in session at the associated hotel. Other times the police had areas blocked off due to reasons that remain unknown to me, I suspect violence.

Zona Norte has many smiling faces and pretty girls, but I feel safer every other place that I frequently visit. I stay away from the whole area during peak weekend hours when much alcohol has been consumed by too many people with possible violent tempers.

I plan to visit Tijuana next week and I am looking for a decent hotel that does not ask for ID, Cascada did not ask me for ID last time, and I am wondering if hotels outside of zona norte, like Ticuan, ask for ID.

Tijuana has recorded more than 1,500 killings in a 6 month period and July 2018 seen 251 homicides in just that month alone. There has been multiple post about Tijuana's rise in murders. I'm sure the mayor and police chief of Tijuana wishes that they only had 177 murders so far this year. 177 murders for this month (October) with a realistic number probably closer to 2,000 homicides this year 2018.

But what most will admit (or believe) is that a very high percentage of those homicides are cartel related. As odd as that sounds, that does make me feel better. Does that mean an increase in danger? Yes. Because we love to play in the red zone, there is a lot of potential there. I was very close to the shooting that occurred outside HK's back door just a couple months ago. While I didn't feel in danger, it was a "WHOA" moment. But, sure enough, the next night, there I was, talking to a taxi driver about it on my way to the zona.

Bottom line, we frequent areas with a high crime, high criminal ratio. Does it scare me away? No. As others have said better than I've should fear the rateros more than the shootings. And, maybe I'm right, maybe not. But I feel if you do not let your awareness down from complacency or alcohol, the odds are in your favor with the rateros.
