Keep up the good work. It's appreciated by 99% of us!
Giotto is my friend and I trust what he says. Thank you, Giotto, for the updated information. Your reports are better than what I am reading in the Nation or Bangkok Post. I wish you the best of luck and hope you and your friends and loved ones come through this ok.
The only thing I can add is Thank God for making Thai people- have you heard any whining and complaining to the world? No. If this was New Orleans with fat dumpy lazy americans waiting for 'the gubmint' to come save them we would hear no end about how they were suffereing.
You made a very big point!
I think Giotto is doing the right thing by making people aware of the situation hands on. He is better placed being there to guide us what is the real situation.
Also ultimately if hes asking people to postpone its for their not his benefit. Being a lodge owner if his guests cancel he loses money but besides thenpoint taking time out to update prospective people planning a trip to Bangkok is a great thing in my opinion.
Surely some areas are not flooding at this stage but is there a guarantee it would be same in 2 or 3 days from today? Atleast whosoever is planning is better prepared thanks to his daily updates. I don't think he needs to be ashamed for being helpful and getting the word out.
Cheers
That is exactly the right comment. Flooded areas do not need "hordes" of un-necessary people.
If the flood gets into areas that today are dry (and with lots of tourists as Sukhmivt, said to be dry) , the local emergencies services will have to cope not only with the aid to the local (who often can sort out themselves) but also with visitors. Somebody will start to freak out, somebody will demand a limo service and not a tgruck to be removed etec etc.
Not to mention the food supplies.
All in all better have a tourist sterile area for a little while till it is all over

Many are being very vocal and blaming the problems on the government, just like they did in New Orleans. Most just are not fat and dumpy.
You Giotto, advised people not to come to Bangkok as it would all be flooded.
I said come, it will not affect the mongering area's. You have continued your scare stories before and after and you are wrong.
With regards to 430 dead, it was well over 300 before the floods hit Bangkok, and you did not seem to care over 300 were dead in the north, north east and centre plains. When the water arrived into Bangkok you started caring, just like all Bangkok people. Its a problem if it affects you, and if it does not then you are as quiet as a mouse about it.
Perhaps since you are quoting the figure you might like to clarify how many are dead in Bangkok, and how many in the rest of Thailand.
This subject should be in the expats section as it simply has nothing to do with Bangkok reports, or mongering in Bangkok.
You should feel ashamed Giotto for telling people not to visit Bangkok some weeks back. All you have done is made people change or cancel their trips when there was no need to at all.
Pro
Actually I think it's your recent comments on Giotto's flood posts that are inappropriate.
Giotto whether relaying info on flooding or the past uprisings / riots has always posted the facts on what is happening.
His advising people to consider trip timing is for their benefit not his. This has quite a bit to do with current Bangkok reports.
If you know Giotto, you know he is only trying to help.

Guido88
With all you guys speaking up for Giotto along with his own defense of himself re The Pros' comments, I'd like to offer a little perspective on the comment above. Giotto, of course, runs a business, and constantly advertises it here in his posts. Sometimes he makes negative comments about his competition, namely other hotels in BKK. Since you want to speak about "facts" in your post, what I have just said are the facts. So I would suggest that his followers who are on his cock might want to consider that when they presume to know another person's motives in a situation like this, how susceptible are they to P4P TGs lines of "I love you too much", and the rest of their white magic? Of course if one is around these type of girls all the time you don't think he is an expert at knowing their ways. So, please, stop being so gullible.

Reports
Giotto's report about water being in front of the Chaophya Park Hotel was most appreciated because that is where I have stayed for several years. I doubt I could have picked up on that information at this early date from any other source without spending a lot of time.
The Wall Street Journal has two informative reports as well. I hope these links can be opened for the articles. They describe the subway system being in harms way and the very real threat of disease in any area that has standing water, even small pools.

In short I am reluctant to cancel my late December flight to BKK for several reasons but I will not be staying there.
Many thanks to all for the timely information.

I was affected by the floods today, so now I am torn between it being a problem or not.
Problem:
I could not buy any Baked Beans at Tesco Lotus. Stock completely out of Beans. I am now suffering with no beans, this is a great inconvenience.
Flip side:
Had a lovely 23 year old from Thermae last night. 1500 baht short time and my word was she nice. Lives in Nonthaburi and flooded and in need of cash. Wow, these floods do present some good things.
Overall:
Think I can manage without the beans if you get nice fresh pussy like this. And my oh my was this fresh and tight. Wonderfully refreshing and very very wet.

Thanks

Guido88
That is exactly what I have been thinking since the first post Giotto put up about the flood. Having met him once all I can say is he is one person with no hidden agenda.
Thanks giotto for your informative updates and I'm trying my level best to get my ass down there and say Hello, again over the holidays next month.
Cheers,

Bangkok Post: Froc abandons Rama II Road.

(this is significant, it might create logistical problems for Bangkoks supply chain)
Bangkok Post: Protesters block sluice gate closure.

(still some public resistance against government measures, understandable if you live in the flooded areas)

Fascinating
.
Giotto, of course, runs a business, and constantly advertises it here in his posts. Sometimes he makes negative comments about his competition, namely other hotels in BKK.
Interesting, what's coming up here :) .
I am really not a friend of Nana Hotel (seriously) , but I usually do not comment on the quality of other hotels. I rarely stay in hotels here in Bangkok except my own :) . Anyway - Nana hotel is NOT FLOODED right now!
I suggest that we reduce this pro / con discussion about my activities to a minimum, otherwise we will see the webmaster getting active creating a separate thread "2011 Flood in Bangkok" soon. Then nobody finds the information any more, and the history of those actions shows, that the discussion / flow of information will then die down soon.
Let's not forget the purpose of this forum. To a certain extend the criticism of those members / readers, who want this forum to simply concentrate on mongering activities, is understandable. I will continue to give updates on the flood (my POV) whenever I find it necessary, and I encourage others to do so, too. Different opinions and profound facts will then allow readers to make up their minds.
