I don't get the 'of course'. An agent receives a commission so why do they need a tip on top? And given the money this place is raking in they should pay their staff a decent wage. I doubt the drinks girl gets to keep her tips.
They may have been "agents" in Nataree that totally controlled girls lives, but in The Lord they should be called the "CheerPerson" (according to the Thai language term. They are there to recommend and answer questions like what the price system is. They don't necessarily get a kick back payment from all girls. Depends on which girls have an agreement with the Cheerperson. I don't know if this system is prevalent at The Lord or not.
I always made my own choice of girl anyway, so not just taking one picked out by the Cheerperson. In the old days, would tip the Cheerperson 100 baht on the way out, if any good advise was given to help find a good performer. If girl was lousy, then definitely no tip. The Cheerperson should have warned about restrictions, etc. If Cheerperson recommends a girl, I have to take that with a very big grain of salt, in case that comes with a kick-back.
I don't know what the Cheer Person makes as a salary for working there. They may indeed rely on tips for good advice from their regular customers. Mamasan or Papasan is not a term I prefer either. In bars I hate mamasans to be asking me if I will BF the girl. The less contact with a mamasan, the better. Only really useful when customer cannot communicate with the girl directly. I certainly never wish to negotiate a price with a mamasan present.
