At least when buying Dominican products don't get suckered into going to Duty Free. I just compared a couple of rums that were 1000 pesos more at duty free than at La Sirena. So when going back home buy your stuff at the grocery store before going to the airport.

But local stuff yes, check out the local supermarkets you can get better deals.

All DR airports have got zero liquids carry-on policy. This is also the only way in case of a connecting flight.

They have an alliance (or sisterhood relationship ). Plus their exchange rate is good on withdrawals. The machine dispenses pesos not US dollars. I think I can withdraw up to $1, 000 US per day from an ATM. But you can only withdraw up to 10, 000 pesos at a time. (about $246. 00 US ). That means if you need a lot of cash, doing several transactions back to back until you get what you need. There is a small ATM in the Metro bus station in Sosua (next to Texaco, icecream parlor, and Claro ). It will dispense up yo 10, 000 pesos also. But don't know how many transactions the small ATM will allow in one visit? Most people don't need 10000 pesos, just enough for the day / night.
There is a Scotia Bank in Cabarete on the main strip. It has 2 ATMs. There is a branch with 2 ATMs in Puerto Plata on 27 De Febrero. You will have to do a little research to find out if and where your bank has a sister branch or alliance in the DR. Hope this helps.

The price was 51 bucks, the only catch is its not sold anywhere in the states. The same bottle of regular Hennessey runs around 30. I just finished the bottle and really didn't notice a difference other than the color. I will not buy a bottle this trip, even tho I have several requests for it.
If you find a Banco Leon there is no fee. Google maps on my cell lead me right to them. You can only take a max of 2000 per transaction so you have to sit there and keep repeating the process. But if it's for free, then it's for me.

If it were my board I would just delete (without wasting my time commenting or explaining) :
- Any political post.
- An post containing a reference to under-age sex, drugs, or other illegal activity.
- Any post in the wrong country or city forum (if a good post by a newish poster who has gone to some trouble I might move it to the right forum myself with a comment, but only once). Some of the topic headings are a bit confusing, so I could cut a newbie some slack the first time. What is the difference between "Sosua" and "Sosua Reports" for example? But posts purely about Blackbeards in the Sosua section (to take one common example) would go.
- Any post with a racial slur (overt or implied).
- Any text in the Picture Section other than an explanatory caption to the picture.
It would be a bit more work for me for two or three months but after that guys would get the idea that they were just wasting their time posting this stuff and it would gradually die off.
But it isn't my board, so let's just enjoy it the way it is. No one is forcing us to read or post.
I think your estimate of 99. 999% useless crap is far too pessimistic. I wouldn't put the percentage as higher than 90% myself. And as you say, there are other boards with far more information on Sosua. They contain about 90% crap too. It is the nature of the internet.
Not sure what Mr Gogo deems acceptable in his forum, so my remarks do not extend to that area. I presume he has Admin rights there to reject stuff?

Left LAx at 9pm May the 22nd. Landed at JFK at 5am local time. Left JFK at 9:30am and landed in Porta Plata at 2pm local time, May 23rd. Was quoted $25 for taxi ride to our hotel in Sosua. That was for the three of us. Once on the road the drive said it was $30. I said NO, the quote was $25. He started bitching. I said fine. Pull over and let us out. He changed his attitude. Get settled in and went to Rumba Bar for a beer and look at girls. A 24 year old comes up and says hello. I said hello. When I asked how much she said 2000 pesos. I said 1000. We agreed on 1500 and off we go. In the room I shoot some photos, we clean up, great BBBJ, fool around and off she goes. I had dinner with a buddy of mine about 6pm then headed back to the Rumba Bar for another beer. A girl comes up and I asked the price and she said 2 mil, she didn't move on the price.
