You go to the window and get it, there is a minimum amount to put on it the first time (10 reals I think) and then you can put more on it later, even at machines. You touch the card to a sensor and it deducts the fare each time. Much better than standing in line buying a ticket each time.

I am planning to visit Brazil in November. Is it a good time to visit at that time? Posto 9 is a crowded place with the local youth. Until the end of the day one can see the beach full of people. It's a fashion place among cariocas with a past of music, marijuana and social protest. I think it's a little difficult to catch a girl there willing to go by money but, everything is possible.
